DungeonEternalX 2 or Dex2 is a hack & slash hard core PVP action server. ( And by PVP we mean Player Vs Player, not the hard core rules where your spells kill your buddies and your self ). We love action and hunting folks down in competition, but the server is set so those who prefer to avoid PVP can do so via level restricted areas and being careful.

Server Specifics:
  • All custom rules are in the In Game Descriptions.
  • We don't like nerfing things, but instead add new features to increase variety of what you can do.
  • In Game Beginners Guide book to help you get started
  • In Game Module Map of DEX is given to all new players
  • Game is heavily modified, with many rules based on PNP. Work is driven by actual usage of classes, feats, weapons and changes are made to ensure variety.
  • Low Magic System (NPC crafters, boss drops)
  • Custom Item Crafting, talk to merchants in town to get started. Boss drops allow you to improve your gear. Talk to pawn and use the wholesale shop if you are new for 1st level starting gear.
  • Custom XP / Gold Javascript Calculator - Fast XP
  • Weapon damages and modifiers have been modified for weapons no one used, Every weapon now has a reason for it's usage.
  • UMD and Scroll Use Rules modified soas to allow more classes to be able to use buffs from scrolls. ( It uses a normal UMD check followed by an easier spellcraft check if you are not in combat and have a point in UMD )
  • Rest Limitations (0-5 hours by level)
  • Respawn system, no permadeath, bashable gravestones, and pray at altar to avoid penalties.
  • Fixed Spell resistance, Dispels, Mantles.
  • Uncapped Prestige classes. Eldritch Knight, Dwarven Defender, Assassin, Arcane Archer and others are no longer limited to only 10 levels.
  • Warlock Changes (yes they are completely redone and fixed like in PNP!)
  • Per day usage limited feats are replaced with timers.
  • Arcane Archer Changes (now worth playing, imbue arrow does damage based on bow!)
  • Pale Master Changes (now worth playing with multiple summons!)
  • Custom Races: Minotaurs, Ogrillons, Sylphs, Zenthri, Kobolds and more.
  • classes and features by Kaedrin:
  • Custom Spells by Syrus Greycloak, Pain and others: Reciprocal Gyre, Reaving Dispel, Arcane Lock, Dimensional Lock, and many more, with more to come.
  • Alignment restrictions are reduced on classes related to the good-evil axis. Pkers can be good or evil depending on how they go about it, but this ensures that the various smiting spells are worthwhile.
Server Highlights:
  • Uses new Downloader System Built into the game so all you have to do is find us in gamespy and then connect to our server. We use haks which are also used by many other servers so you will only have to download them once.
  • Beautiful areas : Done using Photoshop, the World Machine and the YATT plug-in, our designer has created some amazing areas (see images on right).
  • King of the circle PVP game, see how long you can last in the circle before someone comes to take it away.
  • Custom Environment System which modifies magic and can kill you via extreme cold, heat, or just drowning.
  • Completely redone spell system eliminates hundreds of bugs and makes many new features possible, basically things work pretty close to their in game descriptions unlike vanilla NWN2.
  • Database driven In-Game FAQ
  • Database driven In-Game Monster Manual
  • Lots of Bosses (20+)
  • Database Driven NPC's based on player builds. Kill a boss and your build is put in, and later you will find yourself as an NPC.
  • Constantly Improving based on player feedback
  • Large Player Base
  • Player Stats Website that you can keep score with how many kills you have for yourself and your faction, and where you can delete your characters and get experience and gold which can be redeemed in game.
  • Faction system, factions dedicated to Pking, Killing pkers, Maintaining Balance and more.

Special thanks to Baron and Hellfire for much of the custom Content. Seed for showing me the high standards i have to follow and all the other Dex developers who made the base i started with. To Lazy for starting and keeping alive the dream that is Dex. Kaedrin for all his amazing work. Syrus for his grimoire which beefs up my spell lists. Dunniteowl for inspiration and wisdom as i plan new features, and for the support of the entire Citadel. Wyvern for setting my server on fire. Ree for so many creatures that are just amazing, minotaurs for example. Akavit and the folks at Sea of Dragons who helped test my scripts and many other things to help the game as a whole. Rob McGuiness and the crew at Obisidian who have done so much to make NWN2 work with persistent worlds. Skywing for single handedly slaying many of the bugs in game. Electrocuto for the creature cache filler and other custom plugins for the toolset. And of course Grinning fool who has added so many features to NWN2 in the 1.23 patch. There are of course many more who do scripts, custom content, fellow PW admins.

Please come check us out. Tell 'em Pain sent ya and most players will try to show you the ropes! ( and if you got someone on your roleplay world you can't stand, send em to us :) )  And if you are playing NWN1 we have a great server there in action as well.

You say Warlocks have been fixed to be like PnP. Does this include Planar Apotheosis?

And on IGN is says races are ECL capped. Does this mean, for instance, that Drow can only reach level 28? No matter this is resolved (yes, but Drow are modified),

Given how many changes there are though, it would be useful if the wiki on DEX2 had details.

We don't have a wiki, however all the in game information has been changed.

No we don't have Planar Apotheosis, as i've yet to develop all the planes yet, impossible to do everything and i didn't even remember that one (epic level handbook i guess), however warlock caster level, spell level, spell resistance and the like all work like PNP, as do flee the scene and a lot of other changes. Got a few things tweaked to boost em a bit more ( warlock bonus being the lesser of charisma or warlock level is given as a boost to quite a few things as well ), but overall the changes done make warlocks playable and were mainly based on reading PNP rules.

OK I've given Dex2 a try, and I have the following comments:
  • At the times I've tried to play (GMT) there's been 0 or 1 other player - most of those disappear quite quickly. 2 have partied for a short while. 1 tried to kill me. None seem to hang around, which I'm not too surprised with.
  • A lack of website, in particular forum, gives no way to communicate with other players or the developers.
  • This is important because there apopears to be bugs - after the latest update my Skeleton Warrior no longer Attacks, just stands there, and my character who should have a Cleric Caster Level of 10 is only getting +1 on Magic Vestment. Two identical rings bought, one had disappeared by the next login. I got this crystal but it doesn't seem to work so I have to go back to the start each time or nowhere.
  • Almost everything spawns in groups of 4 and only when you're right on top of them.
  • Moreover as you advance it appears that you have to wade through all the lower level monsters (due to the layout), for which you get zero XP - despite the fact that they hit you a fair bit (the RNG seems worse than normal in the number of 20s rolled by NPCs, but it's probably that you have to kill so many and there's 4 at once). OK so you can rest, but it makes everything so long-winded (i.e. boring).
  • Bosses are way out of kilter with the normal monsters at the level, e.g. Mudlark compared to the surrounding Ogres.
  • Loot is very rare and is gold, with the occasional gems, scrolls, potions - I have no problem with that, but what you can buy seems very limited too. Not seen a belt or a helmet worth having. Perhaps they exist, but there's no clue where and no-one to ask.
  • The map shows some CR levels, but TBH they are misleading for two reasons - one, the XP seems borked compared to the CR, e.g. fighting Ogres & Ogre Mages where they have as much HP as me, and I can't get through the Ogre Mage SR, and yet they give 2XP each; two, that there's usually levels, and the difficulty can ramp up significantly.
I imagine that the difficulty level is supposed to be high, but it seems to assume twinked characters. Either that or gear level has been toned down but the mobs haven't. The difficulty of gaining XP once you're through the early levels, plus the plod through low level areas aren't encouraging people to stay, and you need more people - because that's the other thing that is lacking.

This is a problem on many Pw's now, there are a few with 30 or so players and many with 0 or 2 players. I know of one which did a custom class system, and had thousands of quests and generally had just one player on, frankly the quality level, areas, coding and everything was much better than the servers that have 80 players on. Its really more the empty restauraunt syndrome, if it's empty no one wants to try it. I watch the logs, player logs in, oh no players, leaves, a few seconds later, another pops on, and so forth - if they just stayed they would have a full server. I discuss this with other PW's, and mostly it's just not having DM's, but then i am a solo operation and will probably never offer everything as a larger group can do. All the Pw's need more players, and there will likely only be a few PW's which can capture the "Herd" mentality which focuses on player count instead of what is actually being offered. For a long time we had the "Herd" with 20-30 players, its just very hard to get that started again.

  • A lack of website, in particular forum, gives no way to communicate with other players or the developers.

I use the citadel as my website basically, it's got notes, discussions, and i don't just work on things with players but develop things used on other PW's. I also am on IRC. I just don't see how much it's going to help the PW to stop doing things for the game to setup forum software, police the spambots and pay another monthly fee. If you notice i happen to be posting quite a few things to support PW's in general, and i probably would have a lot more done on my own PW if i ignored the larger community, but i think my priorities are the wisest in the long run. Eventually i am to get it back up but then running a PW is something i do in my spare time.

[/list]

I have a few questions, it says every 15 minutes to email me bugs, there is a bug reporting tool in game, and there are links in game to the citadel forum threads to report bugs - why didn't you see any of that? Most of it is pretty obnoxious in how it takes over the screen and i get 2-3 emails a day to fix bugs which usually i take care of in a day or two, and at this point i can say i have less bugs then the vanilla game. I just don't get how you can say there is an issue in communicating bugs when most seem perfectly fine with using email.

As for the ones you mentioned, the caster level on that PRC you used was bugged and fixed, i fixed it which i think addresses most of the issues. Crystal works, i think you did not target your self after clicking it. No idea on the rings bug, but when you die there is a 1 in 4 chance to lose an item. As for the skeleton warrior, i was installing some changes to AI the other day and all that should be working right now. I have been working with sea of dragons ( another PW ) who has been sending over DM's and bug testers to help debug the spells, AI, and are helping me fix a lot of issues, and are going to be installing my spell system and some other things, but frankly i work with a lot larger community than just my PW.

  • Almost everything spawns in groups of 4 and only when you're right on top of them.

We use standard encounter triggers, always have. And how they spawn does vary some, never seen it as an issue really - if you want greater realism you probably want to find some other place to play.

OK so you can rest, but it makes everything so long-winded (i.e. boring).

Please read the new player guide we drop in your inventory, it would have explained this. There is a town stone, which i can say does work ( i even tested with your character ). There also are bind stones which you can use the blue stone to port to after you reach them. You also have 4 towns all over the server which sell scrolls which make a doorway to get there which allow you to return back to where you ported from via the return portal in town. There is nowhere that is farther than 3 areas away, however if you are new you might have to explore some to see that.

  • Bosses are way out of kilter with the normal monsters at the level, e.g. Mudlark compared to the surrounding Ogres.

Yeah they are what is called a challenge. The other monsters are made for getting XP. If you can't handle the bosses, dealing with another player will be almost impossible. It is a little different, most folks who come on with powerbuilds from some website tend to get in serious trouble. Since you never talked to the town crafters you are basically gimped in terms of gear. They are frankly not that hard but are supposed to be something you can't take lightly. ( Their kill ratios are monitored to make them win about 10-20% of the time. )

  • Loot is very rare and is gold, with the occasional gems, scrolls, potions - I have no problem with that, but what you can buy seems very limited too. Not seen a belt or a helmet worth having. Perhaps they exist, but there's no clue where and no-one to ask.

Well we don't want to spend time looting and hoarding loot, it fills up your inventory, which has to be processed each time you log in and out, so we actually give you gold and experience with each kill. In addition we give you bonus xp with each kill in a special bank that unlocks at max level. To me picking up loot is boring, and when something drops it's more likely to be worth picking up. You can build your own helmits, belts, boots, shields, armor at any crafter, add your own magical properties and when you are done make it look however you want with the !craft command typed into a chat window.

You have gimped items basically. From my perspective, soloing things they are not very hard, so beyond seeing the fact you have only +1 gear when you should have +4 on all your items. The only thing i can think of on the SR not being beatable was the bug on caster level, or because you have 5 bard, 1 cleric, 5 storm singer. One thing i have done is fixed SR so it's not removed on the first spell used against it, its all custom so tends to make the game play different.

Basically you didn't use the crafters in town, you have +1 armor when if you go to tangle brook you could have +4 armor ( and +4 in every armor category ). You can design your own items, so ANYTHING you build for, you can just make an item that works with it.

As for it being boring, it's a PVP server, not a roleplaying or questing server. Obviously it needs more people, but it also is not going to succeed as a PVP server by catering to roleplayers or other playstyles. Yes it has a focus on grinding, but it's got a proud tradition on that, and been running from the start of NWN1 all the way up to now. I am not going to change that, because then it just would not be the same server i played on when i started NWN1 over 5 years ago. And i am still getting emails from people who are more appreciative of what has been done, the fact we have very well done areas, and have invested a lot of effort into class balance and adding new things you can do with builds.

Anyway obviously you didn't like it, thanks for reporting the bugs ( which should be fixed ) and i'd suggest if you visit another PW to spend some time reading the suggestions when you first login. If you do play, try talking to the town crafters, in the 4 towns ( each one increases what you can craft by 5 levels each ).

Just a quick observation on this point: most pw's, DeX2 included, are kind of hard to get established on as far as in game financial status.  You don't know where to go to farm loot, you don't know where to get good drops or useful items, etc.  In the case of DeX2, there are some pretty ingenious ways to make gobs of gp very quickly, but you have to familiarize yourself 1st with the areas, and 2nd with the changes to the feats/classes in the game.  I don't want to post any spoilers but when I was still playing nwn2 I played DeX2 off and on and over my stay learned how to get cash flow positive pretty fast.

As for finding items that are worth using DeX2 doesn't work like that: you craft items.  So you buy a belt, for example.  it has nothing on it.  Then you go to a crafter who can add stats to the belt.  You can only add so much to the belt, and each town is limited to a certain item lvl.

So say you add +1 to str and +2 to listen or whatever, that makes an item lvl 3 or whatever.  In the 1st town if the max item lvl is 3 then you have to explore to find another town where the crafters can get your gear up higher. So adding that up with the point I made above, 1st you learn where to get gold easily.  2nd you make a character specifically designed to get the gold, and trust me you can do that super fast and literally in like 1-2 days be rich. 3rd you make an actual character capable of pvp, using the gp from the farming character in order to gear up the pvp character.

I even went so far as to build characters for specific parts of the mod. for example, there's this max lvl 20 dungeon where you can farm this boss who drops a very useful item.  I designed a character who I planned to hit lvl 20 and then never advance any further.  Bind him close to the dungeon so I can farm up the items I need for all my various other cahracters to follow.  That was the plan, anyway, until I got tired of nwn2 in general :P

[*]moral of the story: your critique is probably valid on most fronts but if you spent more time exploring and talking to npc's, looking at the map in your inventory, etc, I'm sure you woulda found plenty of places to levelup, get xp, upgrade your gear, etc. the main shame about DeX2, if what u say is true, is that at one time that mod had 30+ players on regularly and it is a great mod.  If it's empty now well, that's just a shame cause it's a great pw imo *shrug*

Are you able to log onto any other PW? Did you get the game used?

Can you show a screen shot of the error happening?

Note there is no website, however there is pretty clearly my email address which shows when you connect to the game.

Looks like it's having technical difficulties, not showing up on the lan anymore regardless of rebooting. Need to get a monitor hooked up to it and see what it's doing.
