Load cutscene in another level?

I noticed when I loaded a cutscene that has another, different level set to it, the level wouldn't change but the actors in the cutscene would still appear. Is this because I didn't load the level? The (exterior) area takes up a lot of space and is probably going to make a few seconds load screen. The .lvl and .bak takes up about 30mb together. That's a bit expensive for a 30 second cutscene.

Would I have to load the new level, then fire cutscene and then teleport back again? Any better way?

Well unless I'm mistaken I believe that the cutscene must be the same area as where you are in game or you get unexpected results. I think you would have to teleport to the other area, do the cutscene and then come back if the player and party are going to be in the cutscene. (I could be wrong here but that is the way it seems to me.)

I was getting really screwy results on my intro cutscene because I didn't tp to the intro area and it kept trying to fire in char_stage :-p As far as I know it would be a teleporting matter, but if you're doing such a short cutscene, you could cheat it. Either 1) bink a section and play the bink instead, or 2) make a cheat area with both your needed sections in the same level. I'm not sure how hard 2 would be since I don't remember being able to cut/paste between areas, but for such a short cutscene one of those options might be worth investigating.

You can also try adding both areas to an 'area list', such that entering one will load up both. This will made the initial load longer and may cause performance issues if the levels are very large, but it should cut down on the pause to play the cutscene.

Making a bink cutscene is a good suggestion though. Basically, just play your cutscene, record it with fraps or something, and use a video editor and RAD Game tools (the bink converter) to make a .bik file. Then, put that in your override folder and add "Play Bink movie" to your cutscene timeline.
