I've run into a strange issue during my latest play through SOA + ToB. I've recently accepted "Cernd's Child" quest and am on the portion where you meet a quest target at an estate in the governmnent district. When I attempt to enter the estate the tries to load up the area and immediately CTD. What is strange is I've sucessfuly entered this building earlier in the game and even when I load up saves from an earlier chapter I still experience the CTD, as if the area file somehow got corrupted.
When I try loading up the neighboring estate (where Sir Sarles is) this area also causes a CTD even though I experienced no issues when I was doing Jan's quest 2 "game days" earlier. I don't seem to be experiencing similar issues with other areas in the game and BG isn't giving me an error code to reference. I have the games updated to the latest patch and have the G3 Fixpack along with some items from the tweakpack installed. Any ideas on how to resolve the matter or am I looking at a reinstall here? Thanks any input would be appreciated.

Well I know there's a way to jump to the area with ALT + J. I don't know offhand the area name is for that estate. Also cheats have to be enabled to use the ALT + J. But if you look up that area code you could try jumping to it. Your thoughts about maybe the area file being corrupt are quite possible. I don't know if this an option for you, but if BG 2 was temporarily installed on a different computer, and you copied that estate's area file (and I guess the other one as well) into the BG 2 you are using, that might fix it. I do not know the name of the area file myself.
Also have done maintenance for your computer? Specifically surface scan of your hard disk? If an area of the hard disk got bad and it just happened to be some of the area files of BG that could cause something like that. And PCs have done all sorts of strange stuff when infected with spyware, be sure that's not the case for you.

Great idea. Funnily enough it never occurred to me to do a surface scan on my HDD. I previously did error checking, full malware scans and defrags once the problem cropped up while neglecting a surface scan, and now it looks like the game is back to functioning fully again. Thanks for the help.
Sigh I guess my PC is trying to tell me something, alas, it has served me well over the past half decade it will be a shame to finally see it go.

Well something new happened to my game and it's pretty unbelievable, in fact I daresay I've never experienced an issue quite like it before.
Now whenever I play the game it periodically executes a gamut of commands on its own simultaneously at random intervals as if someone jammed on the keyboard hotkeys all at once. For instance the game pauses, hides the interface, quicksaves, takes note of my position, changes party formation, takes a screenshot, etc etc all at the same time and without any prompting from the user (ie me.) This only happens during live play and the bug/issue doesn't apply to when I have any of the game configuration menus opened.
This bug/issue has me completely perplexed! Everything else seems to be working fine, I haven't run into any issues loading areas since running my system/malware/hdd checks but this showstopping bug just appears out of nowhere and completely kills the momentum I had going through my game (currently completed all but 3 side areas for chapter 2.)
What's even more puzzling is after trying to fiddle with the game configurations and resigning to the fact that this issue was beyond my comprehension I decided to uninstall and reinstall the game. However as soon as I load any of my saves the problems crop up again.
For reference I'm running SoA + ToB with the latest patch, the G3 fixpack [core fixes only] and some elements from the G3 tweak pack [multi-romance, avatar customizer script, avatar change on robes/amor] on Windows XP SP3. Like I said this is the first time I've ever encountered anything like this. Aside from the area crash that I reported, and resolved earlier, the game has been running 100% fine and error free the last 2 or so weeks since I first installed it onto my system.
Any idea where to begin or what could possibly be causing this problem? I'm at my wits end.

Are you running any keyboard software?

Irr,
Nope, I'm using a standard PnP USB Keyboard and Mouse. At first I thought that maybe I had jammed one of the keys but after testing it out on notepad and leaving the cursor idle for about 4 minutes nothing appeared so it looks like the issue is unique to my BG2.
Like I said the strangest thing about it from my perspective is before yesterday I encountered no problems even remotely similar to this one, plus the fact that it seems to have persisted through a re-installation. If there's any more information you could use I'd be more than happy to cooperate and am looking forward to any input you or anyone else on the board may be able to provide. Thanks once again.

After much research, tinkering, driver updates, and a couple of rounds reinstalling the game I finally found the cause of my problem. Apparently my Firewall (Online Armor) wasn't playing nice with BG2 for some reason and once I turned it off while running the game things are back to working properly again. What a headache and I still find it strange that this issue didn't manifest itself until after a few weeks of flawless play. Oh well I thought I'd share this in case anyone encounters similar issues in the future.
