Hm, ok, I only assumed he was English cos he was engaged to Caroline Aherne at one point (dunno why he'd have to be English, though lol!) - one of those few American actors, then, who can do a really good English accent. Better than Marsters, even.

Still, Anthony Head. Come on Bio, make it happen!x

I saw so many posts I was planning to quote and second on my way through this thread I think it might be quicker to just suggest that every single fine hunk of man meat listed in this thread should be given a part somewhere. A big one. Just a nice big game full of awesome British actors talking to each other in their lovely voices. I'm sure my female PC would have a lot of fun in such a place...

I will endorse my fellow Scot for BeardHawke (and lets face it, he would be excellent) ONLY if Claudia Black returns for some sort of VO.

Best idea ever, this would make me want to play a male Hawke.

Plus, all the regional variations of the UK countries. Someone from Lancashire doesn't sound a bit like someone from Bristol. But most people from outside the UK tend to associate 'British' with posh/Received Pronunciation. I assume the same is true of people outside the US assuming a generic American accent when there is no such thing? Although the southern drawl is pretty distinctive.

And quite a few people mistake the Newfoundland accent as southern Irish and others mistake southern Ontario accent as "American" when clearly the vowels are more clipped. You can't expect people to know regional accents, that's just silly. When people say "British" it's usually just their way of saying "accent from somewhere in the UK".

There also is a generic american accent, it's the accent you hear most american use in their news casting. It tends to be more california/ north-western accent, with no elongated or clipped vowels.

I hope it's not a voice that's too distinctive. If it's an actor I'd recognize for the PC, that would be hard to take because you'd see their distinctiveness in the role. Especially as the Doctor. Way too quirky and distinct a character to not just see Hawke that way. IMO, there's plenty of VA talent out there that isn't mainstream actor.

I agree, although a good (voice) actor can overcome this, too distinctive voices can be distracting.  I'm thinking of movies like Shrek where a lot of the time you hear the actors not their characters.  Having said that, I vote for Richard Armitage for the random British actor I think could play Hawke in all his variations.

OH MY GOD THAT'S GENIUS!

A bit weird, since I see him as being the perfect live action Loghain in many respects... but so genius. Yes. I am behind that idea 100%.

There is much win in this thread. Imagining Brian Blessed being the PC is definitely rofl. I had a NPC in a pen-and-paper game that I used Brian Blessed's voice (inspired from Black Adder I). He was always a joy to have in the scenes.

Rowan Atkinson is also rofl. Imagine his Mr. Bean voice. Hee hee.

I concur highly; Brian Blessed as Male Hawke's VA would be fabulous, -and- hilarious beyond all reason. <3 Brian Blessed.

Thinking again, I would highly approve of Bill Bailey (in all his Welsh awesomeness) as the VO for either BeardHawke or LadyHawke (failing that, there's always that new Dwarf fella in the artwork weve seen. In fact, I wouldnt mind having Bill Bailey narrate DA2 for me )

i think a good voice for hawke would be viggo mortensen. i think i spelled that horribly, but i think everyone knows who i mean. i think he could do a good voice without trying to do something ridiculous like batman's voice in the most recent movies. in the lotr movies, especially, he has that hero/anti-hero style that i think would fit hawke nicely. i think he would cost way too much were he to agree to it, though.

No offense Cancermeat, but Andy Whitfield sounds like an Austrailian trying to fake an English accent.  Which is rather glaring considering he's from Wales.

For my part, I dont have a choice for a Hawke VA beyond say "a good one"  but I would think it would be all kinds of win if characters from the free marches have Aussie accents!  I mean Austrailian accents are likly the most underused anglophone accents in all of fantasy.  (Ok, maybe more so with Canada, but far be it from me to tell Bioware about how to utilize Canada.)

Im American by the way, so this has absolutly nothing to do with my own nationality, I just thought it would just be different.

Tennant would be cool, but for Hawke (if we're going Who here) I'm thinking Eccleston would be a tad better. That said, I wouldn't mind Tennant voiceing someone in DA2, but I dunno if he fits with Hawke.

I say Matt Berry from Darkplace and The IT Crowd

But not just Hawke, he should voice the entire game.

Definitely, but I'd imagine he's busy with recovery and catching up with Season 2.
