In my last game Tali died at the end of the suicide mission, just after I beat the Human-Reaper Larva, at one point Shepard asks Joker if everyone made it, he replied: « All the survivors made it! », which was then followed by a brief view of Tali lying dead on the ground as Collectors ran to catch up with the Normandy.

My problem with this is that... well, it's the first time I've seen Tali die during that mission at any point ever since I bought the game (lucky me, I guess), which is very unpleasant because I liked her (although she's not a LI in my game, in that game I play as a FemShep), but that's not the point, the thing is that she was loyal, I had completed her loyalty mission (Paragon way) and she received her new outfit (so everything worked, right?). So anyway during the suicide mission I chose Legion for the pipes and Miranda for the first Fire Team, then I chose Samara for the Biotic shield and Garrus as the second Fire Team, they all made it as I expected (by the way I chose Mordin for the escort mission for the survivors since I didn't wait before going to get my crew back).

Right until the end when I had to chose my final teammates to meet with Mr. I'll Be Back everything went well, but then the next thing I know Tali dies, seriously, how is that possible? I've completed the game six times so far (that last game was my sixth), and in NONE of my previous five completed games Tali ever died and I've been chosing those crew members for those specific tasks I mentioned above ever since my second game (my first game was a massacre, I didn't know about the whole loyalty stuff saving the crew if we chose their tasks well enough and so on which I've read and learned about after my first game when I came here on these forums to figure out a few things, so ever since my second game Tali never died at the end but I never took her on my final team either, the circumstances have always been the exact same before).

I'll eventually completely restart the mission... not like I hate it huh? Going through it for the seventh time won't kill me. I'll take Tali in my team for the last part (boss), that way she won't die, but I hope that I won't lose anybody else, well... if it's Zaeed or Kasumi I guess I could take it since they aren't very well developped characters compared to the others, obviously, but... yeah, anyway, I find it strange that despite her loyalty she still died THIS time while she NEVER died in my previous games, why? Has anyone else ever experienced the same? Because I thought that to "provoke" (somehow) deaths during or at the very end of the suicide mission that we had to NOT complete loyalty missions and/or NOT chose the proper member for the proper task (I.E chosing Jacob for the pipes) which would then result in deaths, isn't this right?

You might have lost Tali's loyalty during her confrontation with Legion. What option did you choose to talk her down at the time of the confrontation?

EDIT: I don't know, but did you have Tali in your party for the final boss? If so and she was loyalty, then she can't die. If not, this means you left her with the other teammates to hold the line. In that case, if you left her with any two of a loyaly Grunt, Garrus and Zaeed, she should survive. Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

This exact same thing happened to me. Left me scratching my head.

Yeah, you really need to leave at least two of the heavy hitters (Garrus, Grunt, or Zaeed) Tali and Mordin are really squishy and will die at the hold the line part without them there. Or you can send Tali or Mordin back with the crew and take the other to the final battle.

That would explain it.I did have Garrus and Miri with me when I went to the Reaper.:pinched:

Probably where you went wrong. You shouldn't take Garrus/Grunt/Zaeed to the final boss.

There is a formula used to calculate the strength of the rear guard team you leave behind at the end. If it isn't strong enough then characters will start dying while you fight the Reaper.

Sounds like Bioware accomplished their mission. You were attached to a character and then that character suddenly died and you were in shock. Just like in real life.

That's why this game is so great especially the first time through. (As long as you don't spoil the whole thing for yourself by reading spoilers and using a guide to walk through the game from day one.)

I freaking lost Garrus on my first play through! GARRUS! He's darn near my favorite squad member and he died in the biotic shield stage cause I used a disloyal Jack to maintain the field. Apparently if you use a disloyal teammate even if they should be able to maintain the field they fail at it. I got Jack back for her failure. As a member of the rear guard she ended up dying.

Similar situation to when freaking Ashley shot Wrex and I got mad and left her to die with the bomb.

Huh, wow, I didn't know we could actually lose Tali's loyalty during the confrontation with Legion, that one really surprises me. Well, I do recall correctly that I chose the Paragon (blue) dialog, convincing both Tali and Legion that it would be better to not inform the Geth of what happened with the research of Tali's father and so on, then Tali agreed to send non-secret (or something like that) information about the Migrant Fleet (I think), then my Shepard smiled at the result.

As for the mission, as I said, Tali died at the last part, I didn't have her with me in my final team, I took Garrus and Grunt with me for the final boss, they both survived (everyone survived except for Tali) and then I saw Tali's dead corpse as the camera showed the Collectors running at the Normandy, and then utlimately at the scene in the Normandy my Shepard mourned Tali's death in silence in front of her coffin (very depressing by the way).

Right, so I'll head back in my ME2 game, reload the suicide mission from start, do the same steps until the end when I'll chose Tali and perhaps another squishy member with me like... say... Jack, and that way I'm sure they won't die... but I just have a bad feeling, I think that just someone else will died anyway, if that's the case I'll do an elminination process until it falls on someone I don't care much about (such as the DLC characters).

EDIT: I made it, thanks guys, now everyone is alive and well, including both Zaeed and Kasumi (DLC characters who I don't care much about, but who I certainly prefer having alive than dead in case they appear in ME3). Now I got my official "completed" game to keep until ME3 comes, after six playthroughs (but it was fun each times). Now I need to "perfect" my MaleShep game (more on Renegade side, and has a different view on many things, role play for the win, I'll keep the Collector Base with him for sure, I destroyed it with my FemShep, I want to see different consequences in ME3).

Bingo. That's EXACTLY it. Read my response to Shadow Master a few posts above.

If you have everyone loyal it wouldn't be a problem.

I can't use miranda or jack for that biotic shield ****... even if miranda's loyal and stuff... either of them always get a loayl sqaud member killed off

Because Miranda is a bad choice for the biotic shield and Jack isn't loyal. Use Samara.

Finished my first play through yesterday. Though instead of Tali dying it was Miranda that died. Think it was mainly because I didn't have enough paragon and renegade points though. Finished her Loyalty mission but she never turned loyal because of the cat fight Jack and her had in her office. I sided with Jack since 2 of the options were grayed out. Afterwards she just wouldn't talk to me anymore, kept telling me to go talk to my friend Jack. I basically at that point wanted to tell her to get her b**chy attitude off my ship.

You must never send Garrus, Grunt or Zaeed together for end boss if you want everyone to survive.
Or if one of three died or you don't have Zaeed DLC, then you must take one weak character for escort and one for boss fight( Tali and Mordin) if you want take on of them there.

Pay attention to what Miranda says when talking about the biotic bubble....she says "In theory any biotic could do it"........which during her character development throughout the game means that in her mind a biotic could maintain the bubble, but nothing else.  A loyal Samara or Jack will certainly show you otherwise.

The bottom line is that loyal characters can die during the suicide mission if you aren't careful how you allocate the roles. It isn't a simple matter of the loyal characters surviving and the unloyal characters dying. If it was, that would be pretty lame. There are threads dedicated to cherry-picking which characters live and die during the mission, so if you want a certain character to live while others die, you have to do a bit of finagling.

yes, it's true. I don't think that it depends on loyalty. it's about how you choose squad mate for certain purpose on suicidal mission. Technician is very random. since I knew certain fact, I don't choose Tali. if you choose Kasumi or Legion, a chance to success not to be died is more than 98%. I usually choose Mordin or Tali for escort. swarm cross is up to Samara. yeah, I know it's susks I don't have many choices if I want to achieve 'no one left behind'. but what can I do? I don't want people to die over there.

Tech survival is tricky because it's based on several attributes. The loyalty of the tech, the appropriateness of the tech (Tali, Kasumi, and Legion are the only appropriate choices), and also the loyalty and appropriateness of the fire team leader. As far as I've been able to determine, a loyal Garrus will always get a loyal tech through alive provided you choose an appropriate (and loyal) tech.

Kasumi?  Really?  Oooo...haven't tried her as my techie expert yet....:P

But as for a leader for a fire fight that has to command a team...you certainly wouldn't want people who in the past, tended to work alone.  Do you need hints?

Yeah, I almost always use Kasumi as my tech expert. I figure it'll be the biggest break-in of her career. She deserves the bragging rights.
