Is this Hawke becoming a Grey Warden? Is he tainted?

Well I don't care if this Hawke is becoming a Grey Warden or not! However he could be tainted like one, right?
Since it is such a long narrative wouldn't it leave for some good in-depth aspect of becoming tainted in the game?

Another thing yes Hawke will be voiced and a more immerssive character compared to the blank slates we got earlier in the first game, I don't see that as a problem. Maybe my main character will not be a dwarf, but hewill surely befriend one so that we can get a dwarven perspective.

Just a couple of my thoughts, I was concerned that so many people seemed so worried about game most people haven't seen gameplay on yet.

I hope Hawke doesn't need to become a Grey Warden. I don't expect that though.

On the other hand, there's almost sure to be darkspawn (not least because we've already seen something looking very much like them in the screenshots). If I remember correctly, after the Blight before the one in Origins, people thought Darkspawn had been hunted to extinction, and yet they came back. After the Origins and Awakening, I doubt anyone would make the same claim.

Plus...what did the Grey Wardens do for those hundreds of years between blights? Surely there'll be packs of Darkspawn running about. Thedas is a big place.

All that said...I'd be very surprised if there's not at least mention of the Wardens, or even a few for Hawke to meet.

I agree Grey Wardens can't just not lose importance all of sudden, even if they let us say die out. People will always refer to them, as examples of heroes who did everything they etc.

If a normal person is infected with the taint, they turn into a ghoul and go insane or they simply die. They don't have an incubation period.

Yeah, look at Tamlen in the Dalish Elf Origin.

The taint and the wardens need not play any role in this story for it to be good or meaningful

the wardens will surely have more than a passing look in, after all in peace vigilance. That and the world is based on it/them. after DA 1 the impact they had on the world was substantial, a warden king potential god child of a warden, and saviour of amarantine.

Though the concept of becoming Tained is intriguing, it wouldn't work for the simple reason that you go insane far too quickly. Having said that, seeing the protagonist slowly descend into madness would be awesome.

Just because you become tainted does not mean you succumb to it in a few years. Duncan joined the order when he was a teenager, and lasted well into his 40's (assuming the age) without submitting to the taint.

The Wardens played too much of a vital role in DA:O and DA:A to just be completely cast out of DA2.

As they say, In Peace, Vigilance

Because Duncan was a Warden and Grey Wardens go through a special ritual that prevents them from suffering from the taint in the same was as others ... that was explained in the game. Normal people, once exposed to the taint, quickly descend into sickness and ultimately ghouldom.

Considering there do appear to be Darkspawn in the second game I am wondering how Hawke manages to avoid the fate of countless others before him. (assuming he doesn't become a Warden)

Exactly. I was surprised to see him holding his own against the Darkspawn. He's either a Warden, a badass, or there's some really cool stuff going on in the story that we've never seen before.

Plot immunity.

Same reason Morrigan / Leliana / Oghren / Sten / Wynne / Zevran don't get tainted.

I don't want to play another grey warden character. I hope they just refer to them if bioware feels they need to be mentioned.

I agree completely with this, however like some said either you go mad too quickly from the taint, he is not tainted, or he resists the taint like a warden. Well I guess there are many angles to this.

Plus, I think Hawke's right arm look badass with the somewhat clawed gauntlet he has, when I first saw it I thought it was some kind of mutation lol.

David Gaider said in another thread that there won't be any secret organizations, ancient evils, or saving the world.

There are ways of protecting yourself from the Taint without being a Warden. They're magical, though, and likely expensive. The Wardens Maric adventures with in The Calling give him salves, or potions, or something.

Also, assuming every timeline reference in The Calling is accurate, Duncan is only in his late thirties come Origins and only manages about twenty years before he begins to feel his calling.

So does that mean we will just kill random darkspawn and bandits?

Could mean alot of things, that we are not going to save the world. Or that it is not the mission to do it and Hawke accidently saves the world through his actions. IN Origins you always know you are going to save the world.
Or maybe he just really hates darksspawn and end up killing all of them. Yes not all of what I said was serious but there are so many angles to what saving the world means. Do someone a small favor and you saved them, at least in their opinion.
