The spell lasts long enough to kill five rats and show Jondalar how to fight. Then a series of images relay the final moments of Shank.

Imoen sketches a portrait of me as I leave Candlekeep.
Gorion realises we are ambushed. "At least you're equipped for battle" he says. Er no, I took my gear off for the portrait.
"Fine fine" he says. "Cast some buffing spells". I forgot to rest.
"Seeking Sword". Used it on the rats.
"Mind that flame arrow" he shouts. Ouch.

- withstood an assault by a Xvart village and used horn of Kazgoroth to deal with the Xvart shamans. Also closed down Borda's racket.
- reunited a dog and his little master, ended Zal & Vax's banditry and taught Sendai's bullies a lesson.
- Jared tried to walk off with his fur-lined boots and was stunned by Seldon's reaction.
- dealt with ogre berserkers and hobgoblin elites guarding a bridge (level 6) and Neville and his crew nearby.
- acquired tome of charisma.
- rescued a dead cat only to be accused of killing it, but did get a reward for saving a dryad's tree.
- stopped a baby wyvern from eating a boy.
- cleared the wolf pack from the temple area.
- saved Prism from Greywolf.
- used protection from undead scroll to loot the valley of the tombs.
- punished a poet for poor verse on Firewine Bridge and a nearby priest for trying to convert Seldon.
- saw Brage to the Nashkel temple (level 7).
- rescued a boy from some wolves, killed some sirenes and gave a bow a rare workout against some golems in order to get the constitution tome.
- not liking the way a Nereid was licking her lips decided to kill rather than kiss her. Also cleared the rest of the area and had a kindly surgeon bind my wounds.
- successfully restored Melicamp.
- used the dagger of venom for the first time on the caravan bandits and retrieved Unshey's belt from an ogre.
Seldon is well on the way to being capped at level 8 and will then go after the Nashkel mines. To date the only concern was when he was ambushed in the waterfall area by an ogre mage, that I don't remember seeing before, and had to save against emotion (saving roll required was 14 so pretty lucky).
Edit: just took a quick trip to the ankheg area: clearing the nest and the surrounding fields got Seldon up to level 8 - now on a very healthy 105 HP.

It's handy in BG1 as well because unlike invis it stays on if you decide to do a spot of looting.corey_russell wrote...
Sounds like you are doing good Grond0. Here's hoping your cleric becomes a powerhouse in BG 2. At level 15 you will get skeletal warriors, but still that's quite a ways to go. Helpful hints: In BG 2, you can use sanctuary in several quests to get MASSIVE experience. Both rescuing Garren Windspear's child and the Trademeet quests can be done with minimal fighting with lots of sanctuarys memorized.

(Vanilla BGI + TotSC, maximum difficulty)
When Lokuryn was caught stealing by priest of Oghma and almost beaten to death, Gorion decided it is time to leave Candlekeep with him for good.

After unfortunate death of Gorion, Lokuryn met Imoen and took her back to Candlekeep gate. He left her under the protection of Gatekkeper and headed east.

As per Gorion’s advice, he briefly visited Friendly Arm Inn, but he did not like the face of strange man waiting outside the inn. Thus, he sneaked away and headed south. Unfortunately, severe beating waited for him in Beregost, too.

Nevertheless, Lokuryn recovered and thanks to various easy available quests, he advanced to level 4 with 22HP.

Gorken and the fighter were lurking at the 3rd level exit and initially Seldon tried to kill them by hopping backwards and forwards getting 1 attack in at once (most of the time his better weapon speed meant no retaliation). However, the duergar seemed to regenerate when he was out of sight, so eventually he pressed the attack on the fighter and just accepted he would be hit. Then same tactics on Gorken (hop back and forwards until he gets a hit and then press the attack). With the final cleric again waited to put the horn protection up until a spell was being cast (to give good odds this would be hold person - that the protection would work against) and then attacked.
Seldon had used most of his healing potions in getting through the duergar and also wanted to free up some inventory space. Selling the duergar equipment also allowed him to buy full plate mail - same AC as the ankheg mail, but with better AC adjustments against weapon types. The rest of the kobolds were relatively easy - Seldon probably did as much damage to himself using the horn several times against the shaman as the kobolds themselves did. Mulahey's first spell was interrupted anda nice critical for 34 HPs then finished him off (or at least the poison did) meaning Seldon did not need to do any area hopping or use the horn. Mulahey's allies managed only a single hit on Seldon between them.
Back in Nashkel Nimbul proved not good enough at avoiding flying daggers, though still put up a much better showing than Tranzig. Arriving at the Friendly Arm en route to the bandit camp Seldon was ambushed. The initial exchanges saw the mage dead, but Seldon had taken a lot of damage. Running half-way round the area saw him healed and he managed to account for Molkar (who had oil of speed on) hand to hand before more running and healing. About 7 or 8 laps of the map (and over 100 throwing daggers) later Morvin finally fell, leaving Drakar alone. Hewas speedily finished hand to hand before he could get a spell off.
After resupplying with healing potions and throwing daggers Seldon is off to the bandit camp.

I run into Viconia, and she asks for my help. We end up travelling together.

Bassilus is our first target. Sounds ambitious but Viconia dooms and commands him while I use DUHM, resist fear, armor of faith and seeking sword to disrupt and kill him (THACO 11, 3APR at level 4).
I pick something nasty up in Beregost.

Then another companion (going to SK a * from mace to quarterstaff as he's too weak to use a mace).

One more for luck.

The five of us head east of Beregost temple where we run a basilisk hunt. Once they and a rock gnome are dead we buff (four skeletons, a ghast, resist fear, armor of faith, DUHM, true sight, seeking sword, chant, bless) to greet Kirian but run into two angry cave bears. They are soon dead and we find Kirian and her friends. Battle briefly commences.

Ogre Droth is caught out by my true sight, annoyed by my seeking sword and killed by Quayle with magic missiles.
(OK, priest of Helm has a lot of potential in BG1, true sight and seeking sword are a potent combination)

Ryssowaun, LN male dwarf priest of Helm. Resting lots to use seeking sword wherever possible.
Bjornin gives me a magical shield, then we kill four huge spiders before heading to Gullykin. We strike lucky and grab a magical sling before we encounter Molkar and gang.

Meilum is doomed, commanded and held. A skeleton is immune to lightning bolts, leaving Kahrk open to true sight and seeking sword.
Mulahey is at the base of Nashkel mine. He's commanded, held and dead now of course. Lamahla and her amazons are silenced, held and killed. Quayle kills Nimbul with magic missiles before doing the same to Tranzig.
Raiken, Teven and Deke all die before we attack the bandit camp. Ardenor Crush and Taugosz Khosann both fall to doomed hold then Venkt and his pals fall to our attack despite resisting our spells.
In Cloakwood we drop the druids before they can cast lightning, retrieve a cloak from tasloi and kill some spiders. Four ettercaps are dead, but not before poisoning Viconia twice and forcing us to get her raised at a temple.

Lokuryn, soloing chaotic neutral elven thief:
Lokuryn spent most of his time fighting bad boys/girls

or running from ambushes

He traveled along the sword coast to gain experience and money. Finally, Lokuryn could afford to purchase wand of magic missiles from Thalantyr. With the wand, he killed 2 Battle horrors guarding the entrance of Durlag’s tower.

Inside the tower, he killed numerous Ghasts, helped succubus Kirinhale and defeated Riggilo.
Lokuryn is currently level 7 thief with 36HP.

In the main tent his initial assault with throwing daggers finished off the mage, while the remainder fell quickly to the dagger of venom. Didn't bother looting the camp (as there's not a lot of vanilla equipment to buy for a wizard slayer), so just returned to the Friendly Arm.
Najara and Vallius were waiting there. Seldon drew Najara away around the map and was lucky to hit several times in quick succession to finish him off. Tried the same with Vallius on several occasions, but this was hard with Vallius hitting more easily and doing around 30-40 damage per hit. At one point Seldon misinterpreted the spell being cast and was hit hard by a flame strike when already wounded and came perilously low on HP. Seldon's horn was also down to 1 charge, so he eventually just dragged Vallius to the top of the map and gave him the slip before going into the inn for healing and resupply.

A few more ettercaps and spiders before we face Centeol. Buffs and sleep see us through this battle, then we send some skeletons to deal with a hamadryad and buff before entering a wyvern cave. It starts well, and continues that way apart from some friendly fire and a couple of bites I receive.

Drasus and his mercenaries are easy pickings (DUHM, seeking sword, doom, silence, true sight, hold person, command).
Viconia and Tiax are starting to grumble (reputation 16), and as we enter Cloakwood mine they kill Phaersis (-7, 9).
I cast a few buffs then sanctuary next to Hareishan, cast seeking sword and attack. Once Hareishan is dead the many sleepy archers are quickly killed. Yeslick is happy to tag along.

Natasha and an ogre mage are next, then on to a final guard. Tiax removes a few traps as four skeletons sweep past to attack Davaeorn. Tiax fails to hide so scouts ahead carefully, only to dodge a lightning bolt. It bounces down a corridor and into the room we occupy. Branwen yelps with pain, but at least she survives.
Tiax sends a ghast in as a fireball kills some skeletons. Yeslick grumbles so we all join in the attack, only for the ghast to kill Davaeorn.
In Beregost we ask Garrick to identify various items of equipment. Quayle is relieved to re-join when this is complete. Then we go on a sirine hunt, and I use santuary to grab a tome (bodily health). After that we head south to pick up another tome (leadership).

On through the Cloakwood, giving the spider ambushers a wave on the way, to the mines. After the initial onslaught of black talons and guards it was time for the main event. Drasus was lured away and fell without problems. Attacked Genthore, then, when the mages appeared, put up protection from magic scroll and started on them. Killed Kysus, but also took quite a bit of damage, so turned back to finish Genthore and a surviving guard before trying to complete the job with Rezdan. However, he disappeared and Seldon ran for the mines while his scroll was still active. Killed Hareishan's guards, but he wouldn't show himself, so Seldon carried on down to Daveorn (healing as he ran). With the scroll still up triggered the traps, then turned to deal with the guards that had followed down to this level. Daveorn teleported in so became the prime target; extra-healing potions kept damage under control until Daveorn was dead and he could turn on the guards. Before the scroll expired he also dashed back down to kill Dark Sylvia (who missed her backstab) and Morgan the mage.
Edit: Seldon has just fallen - for the 3rd time in a row a wizard slayer attempt can't quite make it to the end game. He did get past the basilisks in the catacombs this time, but on returning to Flaming Fist HQ he was hit by the greater doppleganger and confused. With an AC of only -6 the doppleganger only needed a 13 to hit him and soon finished him off. Funnily enough I had been thinking moments before being hit that the area around Duke Eltan was a bit congested for run and shoot tactics and wondering whether I should try just picking the Duke up and running for it - should perhaps have just kept my mind on the battle

Sorry Grond0… The curse strikes again?
I don't want to leave the job undone, so have started a replacement wizard slayer. Here she is having done some easy XP tasks in Beregost:

She will be following much the same path as Seldon (though with the aim of never needing a saving throw at all), so I'm not intending to post in any detail until / unless she gets to a later stage.

Entering challenge with elven fighter/mage, Gonnet (pronounced Goenae). Here is his starting stats.
@Grond0: I found a way to beat both Karlat and Neira without needing the cheese (of exiting/reentering to burn their spells). I just blinded them and then shot them up with my composite bow. Most of the time, Gonnet intends to use 2-hand sword and composite bow. Will need to pick up that magic 2-hand sword from that ogre boss soon.
I managed to survive all the assassins at FAI, Beregost, and Nashkel. Against Tarnesh I ONLY survived because when I encountered him, I was level 2 fighter/level 2 mage with 20 HP. So I kept healing myself after eating a number of magic missiles. Tarnesh eventually switched to melee then I knew I had him. I did try to blind him but he resisted TWICE.
While I have beat the game solo a number of times, I have never done it without reloads, so this will be a good challenge for me.
Oh and here's my setup:
Vanilla BG 1
Tales of the Sword Coast expansion
Official TotSC patch
Core rules (including on level ups/spell memorization)
"gore" on (though irrelevant for solo play)
Level Cap in place

One problem with solo is you are so vulnerable to spells - if Tarnesh had memorized a charm person instead of magic missile that would probably have been game over. You might be lucky a few times, but you've no real chance of completing the game unless you have a plan to avoid saves at all, i.e. avoid the encounter, run away when spell is casting, use protective potions or items or protective spells.corey_russell wrote...

Karma is making good progress. Just reached her level 8 cap and is heading for the Nashkel mines. Thus far in the game not had to save against any disabling spells or been low on HPs. Current stats are:

One slight oddity was that she successfully saved a cow from the Xvarts, only to find when passing there a bit later the cow apparently didn't want to be saved. Normally that sort of thing is the result of area magic, but Karma doesn't have any of that!

Some incidents of note:
* Gonnet successfully defended Prism from Greywolf. After two attempts Gonnet got Greywolf blinded, backed off then just pumped Greywolf full of arrows. For once, no one will use the sword (Gonnet going to use a two hand sword).
* Gonnet successfully solved the Nashkel Mines problems. He ate two traps so had to gulp some heal potions, but managed the walk around the 2nd group of traps. Kobold commandos were dispatched with the necklace of missiles. In general, Gonnet was much more effective with his bow than the kobolds were with theirs. For Mulahey, Gonnet tried to blind Mulahey, but he saved. Mulahey started to cast a spell (probably a hold person) and Gonnet tried to blind again and this time it worked! Next used necklace of missiles to dispatch the minions (well aimed, it even destroyed the minions in melee range without hurting Gonnet), and then just pumped Mulahey full of arrows.
* After indentifying/selling my stuff at the Carnival headed to Nashkel to tell the Mayor of the good news. He was pleased. Next up was Nimbul, tried to blind but he saved, tried to blind once more and he failed his save. Then fired lots of arrows at him, had a tough time hitting him. However lots of Amnish guards were also pumping NImbul with arrows, the guards managed to get 2 criticals and finished Nimbul so no experience. The run stil goes so that's OK. The boots of avoidance will be extremely useful, especially with a number of bandit groups in the area.
* For Tranzig, tried to blind but was completely ineffective. He didn't go hostile, so rested and memorized 5 sets of magic missiles instead. I pumped Tranzig with all 5 sets, I out-"maged" him. Only dropped my life to 1/2 life so good deal there.
* After all this, finally could affford full plate. This will help a lot in a number of ways. For one, in my installation I can't combine Ankheg armor with +1 ring of protection, so now I can swap a robe with the full plate depending on the circumstance quickly. Also, my game unpauses when doing that, so having one less thing to move is definitely safer. Full plate is also just better protection, bit more piercing and slashing protection. Gonnet now has -11 bonus to missile weapons, should definitely help against the local bandits.
Next major purchase will be robe of the good arch magi, need 26,000 gold have 6,000.

Against this greater doppleganger I had already decided to just pick Duke Eltan up and run, but first took a shot against him with an arrow of dispelling. This got rid of his haste, which should have made things safe, but for some reason the greater doppleganger treated this as being affected by panic and ran downstairs away from Karma (meaning she had to pass next to it on the way out). She managed to run fast enough from the bottom of the stairs to avoid an attack, but the doppleganger (as a result of running to a different area) had reset its spell timer and cast its buffs again (including haste) as soon as Karma appeared.
She still had a slight speed advantage, but the haste meant she still needed to move swiftly as soon as she left the Flaming Fist HQ. I attempted to pause the game as she left, but it didn't take and a single attack from the doppleganger confused Karma. At this point I still had a small hope as it seemed just possible that Karma would run away while confused, but the game seemed to assume she was stuck in the doorway and she just stayed still to be slaughtered.

I haven't played it, but I'm now pretty convinced I can manage the palace fight OK and everything up to here now seems fairly straightforward. The final battle will be dead simple, so the only fight I still have any qualms about is with Slythe, although I think he would need to get very lucky with a backstab to win. So, having convinced myself about how easy it all is, I think I'm going to have to have another go
