The Seven Suns is soon cleared of doppelgangers. A party of doppelgangers at the Merchants League are much harder. I manage to kill two before leaving to rest in the sewers, where I notice another problem.
Schlumpsha is immune to my fists and I have a difficult time escaping his minions and various spiders some of which phase after me. Eventually I escape and take my frustration out on Larze the ogre.
I start to run into locked doors and cannot open them. I take some bracers off Desreta staying away from Vay-ya and start forcing doors. Ragefast first, then Ramazith can't force the tome container. Next I convince Degrodel I will return the cloak of Balduran. Not a chance.
Back to the Merchants League. I stop the party although it took two goes with a rest in between, then I finally open Zorls desk and kill the remaining doppelgangers. After that I have another go with the sewerfolk, spilling over into the streets and ending up with guards and citizens becoming hostile.
With the sewerfolk dead I retrace my steps and use a sword Varscona to kill Schlumpsha. Then I track down Scar, tell him the doppelgangers are sorted but I don't want another job. He gets an audience with Duke Eltan for me and I am tasked with investigating the Iron Throne HQ.
Zhalimar Cloudewulfe has arranged a welcoming committee, and I stand in the shadows observing them. I have a potion of magic blocking immune to 5th level or lower spells and I almost gulp it before deciding they Zhalimar and Gardush mainly would probably pulp my defences. Another day, or maybe not at all. I leave with some evidence taken from the back room.

I'm back in Candlekeep, grab a ring from Vokeras or whoever and upset Rieltar. I disrupt two spells and kill him, move away to heal and hide then have a running battle to kill Kestor, Brunos and finally Tuth. Not helped by a priest and a reader getting angry and stopping me from hiding.
I am arrested and get to ask Tethtoril about Revokas who turns out to be Sarevok. Tethtoril organises my escape and I rest after triggering one snare. Then I use a ring fire resistance, red potion, potion of fortitude, potion of agility, potion of absorbtion and divine might.
Treasure run, emptying three coffins. I grab a tome wisdom, sneak through a fireball, cast two healing touches, grab a second tome bodily health, gulp a blue potion, sneak to a third coffin, gulp a second blue potion and grab a scroll of magic protection before locating the exit.
37/46hp and regenerating, Str 25, Dex 20, Con 20 so might be fun with the doppelgangers.
I explode fake Dreppin then sneak up to fake Elminster. I land a solid hit but get hit three times immediately and am in a bad state not fun then. I quickly retreat and hide. Then I sneak past all but one, lay on hands and kill it.
I skulk past Prat, his friends, spiders and basilisks too risky into freedom. Back in the city Tamoko starts to cut a deal with me, and Halbazzar Drin reads some books to me. I continue my deal with Tamoko before rescuing Duke Eltan. I hit Rashad hard but he mirrors, so I retreat and hide while he hastes. When I return his mirrors have expired but I am unsure of the haste. I retreat, cast divine might and sneak back to try a stunning fist. I hit but it saves, so we trade blows until I kill it level 8, capped.
With Eltan safe I cast divine might and force Cythandria to hand over a diary belonging to Sarevok. Another rest and I am on the trail of Slythe and Krystin. Divine might and stunning fist are quickly followed by lay on hands and retreat. After a frantic runaround a courtesan blocks him and I manage to hide. I attack from the shadows but he is too quick to reply and I get two more wounds so struggle to hide again this is nasty, not had this much trouble with him before. I use a pair of healing touches before hiding again and leaving him with the entrance guard.
I glide past Slythe and look for Krystin, no sign of her. I drop into sight and retreat to hide. She casts mirror image and shield but is still hidden. I return to look at Slythe, who still seems hasted. I check an oil of speed and realise it lasts for five turns, hope he only had the one. Back to Krystin in plain view, and she does likewise to cast remove magic. It's wasted on me really.
I've retreated and hidden, returning to kick her and retreat again. My second hit and run sees cloudkill cast but I've done a circuit and am beside her again (105% shadows). A third hit and I'm back with a fourth before her spell completes. This time she casts a lightning bolt, frying me. I gulp my remaining potion of absorbtion as it returns, only to save the rebound. A blue potion and another hide so I can return for what is hopefully my final attack. She clings on to life, and I get another lightning bolt but am immune. My sixth attack kills her so I sneak back to Slythe, still hasted? I wait for what must be five rounds but no change.
I gulp two more blue potions, cast divine might and attack again. It's a good hit 21 damage and Slythe misses. Better still, I manage to hide as he misses right next to the entrance. My next hit 19 has him at near death but I retreat too soon and he follows without attacking so I cannot hide. He is hasted and could hit me on the run so I turn and attack. He misses then hits before I can aim. I've got another good hit 17+4, 19 damage and he's an explosion of mush.
I had a look at him afterwards. Fighter 13/thief 8, crossbow in quick-use slot of all places, blur ring, free action ring, one ring seems to give permanent haste even after a rest. Horrible, he'd have mangled my feralan last run and I'm worried about future runs with this install. Again, not sure if it is BGT or another of the mods.
Edit: also seriously worried about the duchal palace doppelgangers, bad enough solo but the catacomb group were too much for my monk so suspect they've been enhanced too.

Thus I begin the No-Reload challenge starting in the original Baldur's Gate using EasyTutu. I've never actually played the original BG or ToSC before and It's been years since I've played BGII and ToB so no difficult enhancing mods at the moment and I'll just be playing on core rules. I'll also be playing a Sorcerer which along with the Cleric/Mage multiclass always seemed to be one of the most powerful classes when I played it during BGII years ago.
Now, without further rambling, I present to you:
Gabriel the elven sorcerer
Strength: 10
Dexterity: 19
Constitution:16
Intelligence:16
Wisdom:10
Charisma:12
BG Trilogy no reloads challenge. Core difficulty. No mods (besides widescreen and G3 fixpack for BGII). Using EasyTutu to play BG1.
Sorcerers Spellbook:
Level 1: Sleep, Magic Missile (Sleep always seemed a useless pick for BGII but in the abscense of any decent AoE damage at level 1 and the horrendously low HP at level 1, I'm assuming I'll need some crowd control and sleep seems the best choice. And heck, if I remember correctly, the only level 1 spells still useful by the time BGII rolls around are magic missile and blindness, so I don't feel bad about wasting one of my 5 picks on sleep.)
After running around candlekeep for a bit, Gabriel foils 2 assassins without any effort and completes a few minor errands before leaving with Gorion. Moments later during the night we're ambushed by some ogres, a mage and someone in ridiculous looking armour who unless I'm mistaken is Sarevok. Moments later again, it's suddenly daylight again (Planet sure seems like it's rotating very fast right now) and I meet Imoen with a completely different voice actor to the one I was used to from BGII. Heading back to the ambush site, Gabriel and Imoen are in turn ambushed by some dire wolves that both fall quite easily to a sleep spell before being beaten to a pulp while unconscious. The second one isn't quite killed by the time it wakes up but Gabriel just runs around while Imoen finishes is off with a few more arrows. Each wolf ended up being worth 125 XP which seems kind of high. I think I may have just gotten very lucky there. Having expended all his spells for the day between sleeping 2 assassins in candlekeep and the wolves, Gabriel decides to set up camp right next to his foster father's corpse before exploring the rest of the area.
Not far from the ambush site Gabriel discovers three bears standing in a very odd formation with their asses together. When he approaches to ****** one off and lead it away, 2 of them go red before he's attacked and start chasing him. Considering that one hit will probably kill him right now he runs away and casts sleep, catching both again (this spell seems really powerful in BG1). Whilst they're unconscious, Gabriel and Imoen beat on them for a bit but can't even kill one bear before the sleep spell wears off. After some frantic running + shooting arrows, one bear dies and the third decides to join the fight. Despite their slow speed, Gabriel really doesn't want to risk getting close and Imoen probably doesn't have enough arrows to finish them off considering how much of a beating the first took so Gabriel and Imoen high tail it out of there, leaving the slow ass bears behind.
Following the road east he meets Montaron and Xzar whom if I remember BGII correctly was an evil necromancer. With this little bit of foreknowledge in hand he politely declines their offer of help before leaving the map to travel to a bit of land between Beregost and the Friendly Arm Inn. In an attempt to avoid further bear attacks Gabriel decides to stick to the roads for the foreseeable future however this doesn't seem much better as he's promptly ambushed by a phenomenally large horde of diseased gibberlings who come from the front and from the woods to the north. Thankfully they seem just as vulnerable to the sleep spell. Unfortunately the sheer numbers of them means that Gabriel’s remaining spells are used up and it falls down to the wand of missiles and healing potions to keep him and Imoen alive (what I would give for some AoE damage right now). Thankfully the diseased gibberlings are the last enemies he faces before reaching the Friendly Arm Inn.
Overall, the start of BG1 seems a lot more dangerous than I remember the start of BG2 being.

Inside I pick up Jaheira and Khalid (Finally meet him alive, he was always just a corpse in BGII). Both of whom should be able to provide a bit more muscle to the party. Exploring the Inn I find a guy who wants me to retrieve his belt from an Ogre and someone whose house is infested with spiders. Exploring the land around the Inn I pick up a quest to retrieve a ring from some hobgoblins which proves rather easy. Finding houses seems like it will be difficult as nothing is marked on the map and It’s rather hard to see things at night. The only reason I found the door to the hobgoblin woman’s house was because I was looking around with the Tab key to see the assassin’s loot better. Speaking of the Tab key, looking around the map with it also found me an unidentified ring in a tiny speck on a rock to the south of the Inn. Unfortunately no one is capable of casting Identify and the Temple there charges 100gp to identify which is the same as a Resurrection and considering I’ve only got about 180 gold and have already needed to resurrect Imoen once I don’t really feel like wasting any that could go towards resurrections. That said I do buy her a few more arrows from the Inn.

Sleep is indeed hugely powerful at the start of BG1. Some of the defensive spells might help you even in BG2, e.g. protection from evil / petrification.Sorcerers Spellbook:
Level 1: Sleep, Magic Missile (Sleep always seemed a useless pick for BGII but in the abscense of any decent AoE damage at level 1 and the horrendously low HP at level 1, I'm assuming I'll need some crowd control and sleep seems the best choice. And heck, if I remember correctly, the only level 1 spells still useful by the time BGII rolls around are magic missile and blindness, so I don't feel bad about wasting one of my 5 picks on sleep.)
Wolves are slightly faster than you are, which makes them dangerous opponents if they save against your sleep spells (though you can normally still run them around for archers to take care of as you referred to in your post). The start of BG1 is certainly dangerous and you will need to be careful for quite some time because you can be one-shotted by a critical even from the weakest enemies you face. You will also be vulnerable to ambushes from creatures with missile ability while travelling (at least until you are able to learn invisibility), though having a party with you will reduce the danger somewhat. Each wolf ended up being worth 125 XP which seems kind of high. I think I may have just gotten very lucky there.
Overall, the start of BG1 seems a lot more dangerous than I remember the start of BG2 being.
Edit: I see you survived Tarnesh - well done, that's another encounter that is often fatal for new adventurers.

Sleep is great because it's so fast to cast. You can usually fire it off before even ranged enemies can attack you. It's also AoE, and at the start you're mainly fighting weak enemies in smallish groups, but groups nonetheless.
Mage Armour is good because you can actually cast it before you rest. Shield is better but doesn't last so long. Blindness is another winner. It's one target only, but it lasts 10 turns so it's basically a death sentance and is great for tougher single enemies like spellcasters or Ogres. Magic Missile is one of my favourite spells, but at L1 even Larloch's is better. MM only really starts to get good at maybe L5, when you get three missiles for it, though it's good for interrupting enemy spells, I find.

No SCS but they seem a bit tougher than usual, or maybe my monk is just an easy target for them with an AC of 2 (EDIT -2, 2 would be scary) and no golden girdle. I don't do the stair ploy, partly because it seems like cheating but mainly because I tried it in the past and it never worked for me, much more manly to fail miserably...Grond0 wrote...
@Gate70. I can't remember if you've got
SCS installed. If so you'd need to be incredibly lucky to beat the palace fight in a fair contest, but you can take them out by leading groups of them up the stairs and dealing with them there (the action in the main fight pauses while you are gone).

A couple of shops have wands of sleep but I'm going to try my hand, literally. I emerge from the shadows in front of the two dukes after gulping potions frost giant strength, heroism, invulnerability, regeneration and casting divine might. Will AC -7, THACO 5, 2APR, +11 to damage be enough. I fire up a stunning fist and attack. They all target me, that's good for the dukes and bad for me at the same time. I can just about stand toe to toe with them but six will wear me down eventually.
Liia kills the first doppelganger, I'm injured so gulp a blue potion. I scare a second so gulp another blue and change to target three. I use lay on hands and kill this doppelganger. Target four kills Liia before I kill it, then I hit target five and gulp another blue potion only 3 left.
Five criticals me 24 damage is not nice, I hit and scare it then gulp another blue potion and run. Six chases after me so I hit it, run and gulp again. I scare this one with my next hit and race back to help Belt. He's a mans man though and kills it before I arrive. No sign of number two so I head back to six. It is running too fast for me to attack and as the guards hem it in Belt scores another kill instead.
No sign of two upstairs, but I find it in the basement. A shadow attack, run and rebound attack are enough to finish it off. I'm still potioned up but use my second divine might and switch back to the cloak of Balduran why did I take it off EDIT because I thought I'd be fodder and would need to try some charms before returning to Belt.
Sarevok gets stroppy when I toss his diary to Belt. I miss Sarevok, he hits me. I run away and cast healing touch just as Winski turns up and teleports Sarevok away.
Well, that's a result despite four buffing potions and five healing potions being consumed. A bit concerned about how to deal with Sarevok as I can't melee him or dispel his haste.

Well done Gate70! IME You will need a[ny] range weapon for Sarevok.
Because of the lack of potions of speed, and no way to dispel Sarevok's speed this is a bad idea, IMO. Even if it's possible, it'll take an absurdly long time.
The best strategy I've found is to lure Sarevok away from his cronies using Hide in Shadows to approach the throne, hit him from the shadows, and immediately run away before he turns hostile. He'll chase you, and when he starts his speech his buddies won't be in the immediate vicinity and so won't "wake up". After that it's just a matter of pillar-dancing and (ab)using Hide in Shadows to get free hits on Sarevok until he's dead.
(Of course, use Potions of Perception to increase stealth abilities, potions of defense to avoid getting hit back, etc. You can mix in the purple potion + potion of agility + potion of fortitude to get 25 STR without penalties, but it might be a bit risky if the fight ends up taking a long time.)

Is there something secreted on every map in BG1? Because I’ve gotten rather lucky so far pressing the tab key while around the right area but it’s going to get irritating if I have to scan every map with it.
Anyway, I finally find the ogre who succumbs to the second sleep spell I fire at him and he drops 2 belts. I return one to the guy who it belongs to and don’t bother Identifying the other for the same reason as the rings, money. That said, after stopping to sell some gems with the innkeeper I’ve now got more than 500 gp, still not enough to go wasting it though. Keeping the gold was a wise move it seems as Imoen promptly gets butchered by a gibberling while resting in the wild to replenish spells. Stubbornly deciding to clear the entire map I push on and Imoen and Jahiera are both level 2 now. Unfortunately while exploring the south of the map I run into 2 dread wolves who seem immune to the sleep spell (Only one made it’s save but neither were effected) So I high tail it to the southern map border which was right next to the fight and head for Beregost.

I finally find the Jovial juggler inn which has the spider ladies house next to it (Those little markers on the map that BG2 has are so usefull) The fight is rather scary as I forgot to change my party formation so my weak assed sorcerer was in front, staring down 4 spiders. Thankfully 3 go down to a sleep spell and Jaheira distracts the 4th (almost dying from poison in the process) But all’s good in the end and I head back to the friendly arm inn to report my success.
I’m ambushed on the way by some hobgoblins who have a really nice surround on the party. I run to one side, drawing them all in for a sleep spell. During the fight I notice both Garrick’s weapon and one of Khalid’s weapons are broken. I pick up some spare swords from the Hobgoblins for Khalid but there are no short swords for Garrick so he’s switched over to crossbow for now.
I return the Items to Landrin and get rewarded with a fair bit of money and xp. Gabriel is now level 2 but no new spells yet, just a 4th casting of level 1.

Boots of Speed + Monk movement speed means that your monk is only everso slightly faster than Sarevok (at L8 or whatever the cap is). Just enough to run around and hide behind pillars. Definitely not fast enough to get proper distance to use a sling (at 1 APR). I wouldn't bet on throwing daggers/darts either.ussnorway wrote...
The 'boots of speed' should take care of his running needs however stealth will probably play a role as well, it’s hard to be exact with monk tactics because they aren’t official…
I've used the pillar dancing tactic I described several times against Sarevok and it worked every time.
You mean other than MM and Sleep? Sarevok has excellent saves and huge resists against elemental damage in my game (BGT). Summoning wands would be useless as well unless you have that mod which restores the BG1 WoS behavior.some mods allow the monk to use wands which is a huge advantage against Sarevok.

In Baldur’s Gate, Lokuryn helped Aldeth in Merchant League, solved Scar’s quests, found telescope for Brevlik, looted Silvershield estate and visited estate belonging to Iron Throne, on behalf of duke Eltan. Lokuryn defeated mercenaries on the top floor using Oil of Speed and Amulet of Missiles.

Consequently, Eltan asked him to revisit Candlekeep.
In Candlekeep, Loruryn was unjustly framed of murder of Iron Throne leaders. He escaped with the help of Tethoril, looted Candlekeep tombs and obtained tomes increasing strength and wisdom.Lokyryn is currently on the way back to Baldur’s Gate.

Time to stock up. I can't afford the dagger of venom well I could if I used Foreshadows ring and got a lot of stuff identified and sold
I use one of three scrolls of protection from magic to obtain a golden girdle from Kirian.
I have a fitful sleep. One voice ussnorway is telling me to use missile weapons while a second anonymoushero suggests the boots of speed. I hadn't planned on either but decide to test things out, and I know the perfect situation.
Drasus looks surprised to see me after all this time, I hope he is tired. I've used my second protection from magic scroll, cast divine might and am holding 120 darts. My first dart misses, and even though I run Drasus is closing in. I have no chance for a second dart looking conclusive already so switch to melee and try a stunning blow.
He saves so I move back to keep Genthore running and stun him with my second blow. I run away and hide before returning past Genthore to Drasus. He is alone so I use my second stunning ability, then kill him. I return to take care of Rezdan and Kysus I love these scrolls, recast divine might and play a game of five shadow blow with Genthore.
The boots make me quicker reduced a sample run from about 7 seconds to about 5 but my hide in shadows suffers as a result not sure they should work on a monk either so might risk not using them.
The thieves maze is nullified with stealth and a potion of absorbtion apart from the bit where I don't notice the stealth fail and I get two arrows from skeleton warriors. I skirted along the wall so their traps weren't triggered and the same happens with the later traps.
I chat with Winski, slip past Rahvin and his mercenaries, ease past Tamoko and enter the Temple of Bhaal. I re-arrange my inventory.

After using my final protection from magic scroll I stroll over to say hello. Sarevok is pleased to see me, a bit too pleased so I retreat.
Tazok is first and we hit each other once. I move away, then close in to Angelo and hit him. Then I remove a mirrored image from Semaj as Tazok hits me again. I move away and cast healing touch as Angelo fires an exploding arror. I thump him then move to Semaj. Angelo lands a couple of arrows and I'm in trouble 5/54hp so I rush over and kill him.
Tazok is closing in so I move away, cast lay on hands 21/54 and hide behind a minor statue. He's slow to follow so I hide repeatedly and wear him down.

Eventually I fail to hide and he hits me. I run away and gulp my potion of regeneration. Two more hits and he is dead so I loot him and Angelo before switching my boots avoidance to stealth and girdle piercing to bluntness.
Semaj is next, but he has moved back and if I attack Sarevok will see. I rummage around and throw a dart of wounding. He mirror images again so I switch to normal darts.
He fires six lightning bolts, then two fireballs before closing in to melee me. He has loads of mirror images but I am regenerating nicely 39/54. He's hard to hit but I drop him as my health returns 49/54.
I'm still protected from magic which is a problem can't use the buffing potions. I decide to wait it out by changing my girdles bluntness to golden and inventory more potions and stashing my boots, belts and anything I no longer need.
Finally it is potion time fire resistance, cloud giant strength, power leading to THACO 4, dropping to 2 with divine might and -2 in the shadows.
I hit him but he hits back as various traps fly. I escape but he is caught. I try two darts of stunning but he saves and breaks free. I get another hit so gulp a potion of invisibility. This allows me to change boots stealth to speed and throw a potion of explosions.
I fail to hide so toss a dart of wounding 2 damage and run. I manage to hide but trigger a lightning trap 4/64 and gulp my final potion of absorbtion as it returns followed by four blue potions 41/64hp. I land a chunky blow, trigger another few lightning traps and have three battle horrors join the chase hopefully they will block him.
I land a minor blow, fail to hide several times then another reasonable blow and a third. This time Sarevok hits me 18 damage so I gulp three more blue potions 50/54, cast my remaining divine might and return.
Another solid hit then a miss. My next hit has him badly injured. Two more hits and he is at near death. I get blocked by a bat and a battle horror injures me. I escape, hide and hit Sarevok again only for a fifth battle horror to arrive getting harder to hide, have to herd them up each time and failing to hide about half the time.
I manage two more hits before a battle horror nicks me a second time. I glug another blue potion, hide and strike. He's still standing, my next swing misses.
Finally.

I grab the Sword of Chaos then pass Tamoko and Rahvin unobserved. Winski asks me to call the guards and I change boots speed to grounding. I avoid the first few traps but get two lightning bolts, gulping my last blue potion and trying to avoid them.
I rest before continuing, checking Voleta Stiletto on my way out. Not bothering with the remaining tomes, 1 intelligence and 2 wisdoms but go to the FAI and sneak past Tarnesh to get the golden pantaloons.
Belt sends me on a mission [i]which I can't see as the screen isn't centred so I just get the black fog until I wake up in a circular cell. But that is another story [i]will link to it later

Just fyi, it has nothing to do with mods - vanilla BG2 allows monks to use wands. Mods take this ability away.
And grats Gate70 -- that was an interesting account...amazing you did it with all those battle horrors floating around.

Vintral and his band of Ajantis, Branwen, and Imoen continue their adventures. The entire sword coast is pretty much explored, except for TotSC areas. Imoen is still not level 7 (and hence doesn't have her theif abilities yet), however she only needs 2000 experience, she will get that for sure before the mines (I think).
Whlle in Gullykin area, we encountered some assassins lead by Molkar. He claimed he wasn't like the other I defeated. Well, he was wrong. Stinking cloud + band of skeletons (at least 14) + hold person = defeat for Molkar's band. The party didn't even get injured at all.
We also cleared out the Firewine Bridge problem while we were here, via the backdoor at a halfling's house. The Ogre Mage was cleanly defeated by magic missiles/ranged power, and his fellow mage killed himself with his own lightning bolt. Ajantis cleaned up the kobolds and ogrillions in the vicinity. Exploring deep in seems inadvisable since we have no thief, not to mention hardly seems worth it with the piddly experience kobolds give.
The mayor was happy to hear our success. We found a locked cupboard, but we couldn't bash it with 18/50 strength (via mage spell). But then I had an idea - Vintral cast strength on Branwen then she cast DUHM, which put her at 20 STR and enough to bash open the cupboard and give Branwen and upgraded sling.
Since my party is not full-sized, we made a stop at High Hedge to get magic ammo -- more firepower pretty important for the Cloakwood ambushes. We rested at FAI and proceeded to explore the Cloakwood. We found Coran there and let him jon the party. He stayed until his quest was completed and then we booted him out. This worked out perfectly - Imoen gets level 7, regaining her thief abilites (100% lock pick/50% detect trap). We headed to Beregost Temple and reported our success, then kicked out Coran.
We made a stop at Ulgoth's Beard for some level 4 spells for Imoen. In addition we also did something else while we were there...at this point Vintral's pick pocket is 90% - he gulped a potion of dexterity to increase his odds a bit and pickpocketed Dushai - she only gave us a web scroll (which both Imoen and Vintral know). He tried again, ready to book it to the entrance if it failed but success again - Vintral is now the proud owner of a free-action ring. This will come quite in handy in the Cloakwood and also if he faces ghoulish type undead. Hold person should no longer be a threat either.
Vintral's next target is Drassus and company...we don't have lots of direct damage so probably will go for disabling/ranged attacks. Stinking cloud/skeletons might be enough though we can throw in horror for good measure.
