Am still interested in answer to questions in previous post.

Diary of Fugit

We went to the Firewine ruins and cleared them. Also went to Ulcaster ruins. Crashed on going below as in last game. Obviously a bug.

Dropped of Imoen and Dynaheir and joined up with Drizzt to go to the nine hells.

Am now at Bruenor's Cabin.

After dealing with Belhifet et Al went to Bruenor's cabin.

Then went to the Bear Caln Village and rescued their baby, killing a lot of Frost Giants in the process. Bought some death ward potions and then returned to Bruenor's village and headed North.

Killed a couple of dragons, some ghosts, spirit bears and Cyclops.

Headed north again. Drizzt sindle handedly took on the demon knight.

Wenyt further north and killed a few drow. Drizzt after taking one of the death ward potions, took on the greater Tanarii single handed and then the Astral Spiders etc.. As he was wearing the ring of free action, they fell easily.

He took on the dragon skull golems but without success.

After retreating, he gave Wulfgar his rings of protection. Aegis Fang was more effective than the weapons of Drizzt.

Now going for R&R before venturing further.

Edit

Rescued Cattie Brie and found a mage staff. Then found a moonblade and returned to the Sword Coast where we said goodbye to Wulfgar and Bruenor (To avoid being too overpowere3d for the rest of the game).

Took on the Iron Throne and won. However, on going to deal with Slythe and accomplice, Slythe used a potion of invisibility and killed Dynaheir. After raising Dynaheir started doing the Grey Clan quest. in trying to do this, got arrested by the Fist. After escaping, was continually attacked, but managed to avoid killing them. One of the Fist killed Dynaheir however.

We are now about to take on the grey Clan at the FAI.

The Grey Clan in the Friendly Arms are no more.
We took on Sarevok at the Ducal Palace and won.

Looking at the 8 inches of snow outside, the Icewind Dale part of the Drizzt Saga seems vey apt!!! Posted Image
We don't usually get snow like this here on the coast.

Have you tried checking the invisible item in shadowkeeper?

Merwin, CG human beast master. Travelling with Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira. Coran and Yeslick added when available.

Installed BG Tweaks (stacking, bags) and NPC Kits. No adverse effects yet even though installed mid-game.

Some early temple donations were required before we found our feet;
- Imoen and Jaheira. Held by Mulahey, pulped by minions.
- Imoen. Magic missiled by Nimbul.
- Khalid. Couldn't drink/heal as quick as Taugosz Khosann hit.
- Khalid. Battle Horror outside Durlags Tower.

Imoen has transformed into a mage, so we step up to fighting basilisks, sirenes, flesh golems and wyverns. Coran leads us into Durlags Tower whenever his thieving skills improve, eventually netting us a tome of wisdom and a scimitar for Jaheira.

So now everyboy has a magical melee weapon except for me with my cheap un-modified club. Still, my sling is proving quite deadly enough in most situations.

It's possibly a bit soon for us to crash the Iron Throne HQ but we prepare carefully. We are all protected from fear, blessed and hasted while Imoen has armour and mirror images. Coran and I are hidden away while Jaheira is protected from fire. It starts well and Aasim is the first to die, followed by Diyab. Then we hit a major setback.

Khalid gulps a blue potion and is left on his own as Alai confuses the rest of us. He is on Alai in a flash, only to see the doppelganger attack Imoen. He rushes to her aid and with his ogre-skin gauntlets quickly kills it. Our confused attacks account for Naaman before we turn on each other. Khalid returns to Alai, with Gardush at his heels. A single hit fells Alai so he moves on to badly wound Zhalimar Cloudewulfe while we recover and join in. Gardush is doomed, commanded and placed beyond the help of any temple.

Khalid, fighter 7. 302 kills, greater basilisk. Kondar + offhand b sword + 1.
Yeslick, fighter 6 cleric 6. 27 kills, Naaman. Sling/Ashideena + shield.
Merwin, Beast Master 6. 204 kills, Ramazith. Sling +1/club + shield.
Jaheira, fighter 6 druid 7. 87 kills, sirene. Sling +1/Rashads Talon + shield.
Coran, fighter 6 thief 7. 108 kills, Jalantha Mistmyr. Bow of Marksmanship/Spiders Bane.
Imoen, mage 5 (thief 7). 82 kills, Davaeorn. Dart/Heart of the Golem.

Merwin, CG human beast master. Travelling with Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Coran and Yeslick.

Khalid and Imoen are held by carrion crawlers so I switch to my club and shrug off two bites to rescue them. Then we tell Scar both his tasks are done and agree to help Duke Eltan. Back to Candlekeep where we teach Rieltar a lesson then convince Tethtoril it was all a terrible accident.

Coran has Spiders Bane (free action), the boots of grounding, helm of defense, cloak of Balduran and two rings of fire resistance and annoyingly doesn't need any of them. Thanks to his efforts I am all tomed up.

After killing a greater doppelganger Prat and Sakul are our initial targets in the next battle. As they die Khalid is stunned by Bor and killed by Tam. After disposing of them Yeslick leads us past spiders and basilisks so we raise our fighter at the nearest temple.

Tamoko is waiting for us when we return to Baldurs Gate. Cythandria and her two bodyguards yield some evidence while Slythe and Kristin provide us with a coronation invite. Rashad the fake healer (no relation to the origin of Jaheira's scimitar) attacks me only to find I am a DUHM twin-clubber and Coran has emerged from the shadows with his bow. Moments later we have handed the sick duke over to the harbormaster and returned to face injustice.

Wheedling to Angelo and Neb is against my nature but has to be done. Once we have escaped yet another cell we save Belt and Liia from greater doppelgangers and fight Sarevok. We cannot harm him, and after hitting Khalid twice he tells us to come back when we've grown up. Belt is having none of it and sends us straight after him. I'm not so sure and think we ought to help Shandalar and Mendas first.

I haven't got DSoSC installed so if you continue to find it of little interest, please keep us informed. I have Dark Horizons installed and like the fact that I can be ambushed at any moment, sometimes when I am not expecting it.

Bassett & Co eventually found their way out of the DSoSC tunnels.  They didn't explore every map exit, but the battle referred to in the last post did seem to be the end of the major conflicts.  Overall I think the earlier quests were quite fun and worth loading up at least once (although my party was a bit over-powered for them), but the multitude of maps in the final quest were definitely over the top.  I also tend to stick to a set party once formed, so didn't explore the wide range of additional NPCs available - some people might like to do this.

Back on familiar territory the party visited a temple to raise Montaron and then tracked down Viconia to bring her back into the fold.  Have just travelled back to Baldurs Gate to speak to General Jedyan and see what help he may need.  Current state of party and their normal weapons as follows:
Kagain, L9 Fighter, 123 HP, 56% of total XP, mithril axe.
Viconia, L7 Fighter / L7 Priest of Talos, 36HP, 3% XP, sling +1 (+bag of plenty +1)
Montaron, L8 Fighter / L9 Thief, 48 HP, 22% XP, Morgoth bow
Basset, L7 Fighter / L8 Mage / L8 Cleric, 110 HP (includes 28 in bonuses), 7% XP, sling +3, 100% MR
Edwin, L11 Sorceror, 48 HP, 2% XP, Addersting dagger
Imoen, L5 Thief / L10 Mage, 52 HP, 7% XP, Firetooth crossbow

Duke Eltan is rescued while Cythandria, Slythe and Kristin are eliminated. Then we retrieve a cloak from an icy island and deal with Karoug who is challenging in a confined space. Kaishas Gan, Baresh and Mendas/Selaad are far less trouble.

We debate over Durlags Tower. Imoen and Coran would regain/improve their thieving skills while the rest of us would receive lesser benefits. Off we go then.

By the time we reach the four warders my five companions have learnt all they want, leaving me lagging behind. I want to push on, they do not. How will this impasse end?

All the best everyone.

Fugit has defeated Sarevok. Final battle too easy, though Dynaheir was killed.

I didn't take on Durlag's Tower or any of the other ToSc areas as I felt that i was already overpowered for BG2.

Final Stats below.

Well done WG.

Merwin, CG human beast master. Travelling with Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Coran and Yeslick.

I reluctantly agree not to proceed and shake the hand of each dwarven warder. Fight!

The entrance is open now and I ask what is gleaming from below. Coran sides with me and smooth-talks the others into coming. A greater wyvern is very hard to kill, so hard that Khalid is exhausted from running and I have learnt everything I need to know. Two more wyverns are a bit easier, then we give up and return to the surface. (large shield +2 and sling +3 aren't essential).

We make it through the thieves maze to defeat a final group of mercenaries and Tamoko. Then we prepare for Sarevok. Khalid uses a scroll of protection from magic and draws him out to battle on the skull mural. Semaj arrives at the same time, only for Coran to use an arrow of dispelling and switch back to arrows of piercing. As the helpless mage falls to our missiles Sarevok strikes Khalid once but is then held. Khalid closes in on Angelo while we target Sarevok and doom/malison him.

Khalid drops Angelo as Sarevok is held again and attacks Tazok. Sarevok is almost dead so we eliminate Tazok then turn back to our final enemy. Khalid believes his is the killing blow and as Sarevok crumbles I can almost hear Gorion telling me to head to Amn, wherever that is.

Khalid, fighter 8. 450 kills, Angelo. 44% party xp.
Yeslick, fighter 7 cleric 7. 54 kills, skeleton warrior. 7%
Merwin, Beast Master 8. 239 kills, Ramazith. 13%
Jaheira, fighter 7 druid 8. 118 kills, greater wyvern. 8%
Coran, fighter 7 thief 8. 167 kills, Jalantha Mistmyr. 19%
Imoen, thief 7 mage 8. 93 kills, greater basilisk. 5%

Well done to wise and Gate - Bassett has also now just finished.

The Grey Clan were dealt with pretty easily - Montaron being the only one to fall in the final battle there from a Power Word Kill.  The party then tried to finish off the Dark Horizons mod.  The Section HQ was pretty straightforward (although Imoen succumbed to a backstab); then looked for the Oversight Estate in Baldurs Gate, but failed to find it.  Feeling that the remaining TOTSC area would be too easy the party went after Sarevok.  Even with no buffing he and his cohorts failed to inflict any casualties.

Reporting back to the palace we were sent on a diplomatic mission to Amn.  Unfortunately we were waylaid en route by Maevar and all our lovely equipment was stolen - some day, some way we'll be revenged on him:ph34r:.  Meanwhile I've picked up Imoen, Jaheira and Minsc and started working a way out of this dungeon through all the duergar.

I did have that in mind as a possibility, but didn't seem to get the chance.  The transition to BG2 within BGT is managed by an inserted cut-scene and that stuttered and had some blank screen elements on my computer so that it wasn't clear when the move to the dungeon actually happened.  However, one of the mods has inserted the cloak of Balduran into the dungeon (the omission of which has been one of my major gripes about BG2) as well as a bag of holding, so I'm fairly happy with the start.

After a short (and therefore not very sweet) attempt at BG2 I'm back to BG1 again.  Character this time is Freda, a human berserker - a class which should support a quick run through BG1, while also being good in BG2.  Stats are 18(22) Strength, 4 Charisma, others 18.  I haven't changed mods from previous run:
CharmPatch
BG2 Fixpack
BGT
Dark Horizons
Dark side of the sword coast
The Grey Clan
Thalantyr Item Upgrade
BG2 UB
SCS
Solaufein
G3 Anniversary Mod
SCS II
BG2 Tweaks
Item Pack v1.4
aTweaks
Worldmap
L1 NPCs

After Candlekeep Freda picked up Imoen, Xzar and Montaron.  Had the same issue that the Worldmap does not allow you to see Friendly Arm or Beregost in the early stages, so headed down to Nashkel (a couple of narrow squeaks with goblins and Hobgoblin elites, but no fatalities).  After resting headed back north up the road.  Was ambushed by Tristan and Isolde in the badlands south of Beregost, but could now see Beregost as a location and managed to flee on there before they could attack.

Edit: recruited Kagain and then darted back to the crossroads and picked up Viconia, but a message saying that Isolde was attacking showed the ambushers using a bit of meta-gaming so departed swiftly for the Friendly Arm, bypassing the ambush on the crossroads for now, and disposed of Tarnesh.  Had in mind to get some potions to improve pickpocketing skill as part of improving equipment, but need to get some more money first.  Completing the spider quest gave Freda her first extra level, but only +8 HP.  Kagain also levelled up - at 26 HP he's well on the way to the front-line tank we know and love.

And now ... the end is near
Headed down to the gnoll stronghold, but fled the party there after Hilgaar killed Edwin despite being blind and hitting over the heads of two other characters.  Picked up some cold weather boots from a traveller (he was reluctant to part with them, but pickpocketing worked on the 13th attempt).  Intended to go to the mines, but they weren't visible on the map (despite being next door to Nashkel and the mayor giving me directions to them), so headed for the Southern Wastelands to find an alternate route:
- ambushed en route by ghasts, hobgoblins etc and Edwin killed
- back to Nashkel and then try again
- no route from there, so try Western Cloudpeaks; walk straight into ogre mage + ogre berserkers at the map entrance and Edwin killed before I could get away
- back to Nashkel and try again
- no route from there, but can now see The Cloudpeaks so travel there
- ambushed by ettercaps en route.  Tried to out-run the trap, but just failed.  Like giant spiders the ettercaps ignored the 3 people running round shooting at them and chopped down Kagain and then Freda.

This business of map areas being hidden and only accessible following bizarre routes seems a touch too demonic to mePosted Image (I did reload to check that the mines can be reached from the Cloudpeaks area).  C'est la mort.

This time gone back to an old favourite (from pencil and paper days) - Marcia the monk.  18s with 15 wisdom and 3 charisma.  Same setup as before.

After Candlekeep recruited Imoen and then journeyed to the badlands.  Picked up a scroll from an ogrillon's body before attempting to help Viconia out against the Flaming Fist.  I was unsure whether to recruit her, but the decision was rendered moot as the Fist ignored us in favour of turning Viconia into kindling.  He also managed to hold Marcia and Imoen had to resort to magic missiles to finish him off.

Attempting to go south from the badlands allows you to see Beregost (to the north!) and that's where they went (after fighting off the ambushing ogres en route).  Pacifying Marl was good enough for a level each and after securing a nice purple cloak Kagain was added to the party - turning some spiders into outdoor compost gave him a level (already up to 30 HP!).  Exploring the badlands a bit more yielded some new boots for Marcia before heading down the road to Nashkel pass.  Here Kagain bulldozed his way through kobolds and bandits.  Met Shar-teel on the road and thought to recruit her, but Kagain appeared to give up the fight before a single blow was struck (probably should have taken off the AI).  Suspecting some sort of con Marcia made Shar-teel pay the ultimate penalty.

After surviving a ghastly ambush the party finally made it to Nashkel.  After picking up a couple of old favourites in Minsc and Branwen decided to finish off the party with Keira Silverstring - a bard from DSOTSC that I've not tried out before.  With the party complete returned to Nashkel Inn and evicted Neira before finally having a rest - Marcia picking up her first Bhaal power.

Decided to take a bit of a risk by heading over to the gnoll stronghold.  Only the dwarf fighter was visible and he was duly charmed which helped.  However, the two invisible thieves (one of them throwing 5th level spells) still caused problems and Imoen, Kagain and Branwen bit the dust.  However, the loot more than compensated for the temple fees and there was plenty left over to buy some potions for Keiria to show off her stealing ability in Beregost.  With the party now far better equipped they sprang the other Dark Horizon ambushes near Beregost without difficulty.

Edit: completed BG1 in 60 game days - as I'd only done it recently I didn't try and do all the quests, but concentrated on those with particular benefits, e.g. nice equipment.  The intention was to get all the tomes, but unfortunately I completed the grey clan episode before going back to find the mold golem and found that it had disappeared - still intelligence was never too important to monks.  More of a pain was that I also rested without noticing I had got a reputation increase for the grey clan and that meant I got a second holy power rather than vampiric touch (which I Iike to have to boost HP before hard battles).

Although I expect this to get interrupted by Christmas in a few days, I've decided to enter a character in this. Mods include Tutu, most of SCS (not the improved spiders - I hate those things enough already), the NPC project and what I think is the G3 Tweakpack (I've had that on the install so long I can't remember which parts I'm using - I don't think it really matters as there's nothing gamebreaking in it - all I can remember is that something, presumably the tweakpack, has added gem bags, scroll cases etc. to some shops and one each of Bag/Quiver/Case of Plenty). I suppose I could look up my weidu log if anyone really wants me to (and they remind me how)

Anyway, my character for this run is Osric, a LG Elf Archer with STR 18/90 DEX 19 CON 17 INT 10 WIS 14 CHA 10. Currently level 3 with 4* in longbows and 1* in bastard swords (plus his 2* free in dual wielding). Party consists of Imoen (L4 - I've been giving her 5%/level in Set Snares while focussing on Find Traps and Open Locks-it'll take a while but eventually I'll have enough to use her snares for some of those tough later battles), Khalid (L3 - 3* in longbows and 2* in longswords) and Jaheira (L2/L2 - annoying as anything and I might dump her soon).

I have played with SCS before but not for some time and I've played without it since, so I expect some surprises when the changes it's made come about. I've already had one - Tarnesh was straightforward but Silke killed Imoen and Jaheira (I wasn't expecting her to cast stoneskins or I'd've left her alone for now). Imoen died again in Nashkel fighting that assassin in that inn (I can't remember either of the names but I'm sure we all know who I mean) who also hit Jaheira with Rigid Thinking, which led to Jaheira killing a commoner and then complaining loudly about our awful reputation.

I've also cleared out most of the road maps from Nashkel to the FAI except some of the map immediately north of Nashkel which had some vampiric wolves I had to run from.

Next stop is the mines - I'm not sure what to expect from the final fight down there (everything else should be the same, depending on the effect of improved calls for help). Then I want to expand my party - I'm thinking Quayle and Xan, and I might dump Jaheira for Branwen (Branwen's spells should be better and they'll be about the same at meatshielding - the one thing my current party lacks)

So the mines turned out to be pretty much nothing. Mulahey didn't get a spell off, which is probably why - if he had I suppose it might have been harder but as it was his kobolds did more damage than he did.

Bolstered by this victory, Osric went after Greywolf next. My plan was to use an oil of speed and then just run around him firing arrows while the rest of the party waited on the far side of the map. It worked fine, although Greywolf went a little nuts and wasn't attacking Osric even when he should have been - I don't know if this was something to do with Osric hiding in shadows a couple of times (I didn't use HIS for any reason really, it's just funny to me to loop back around someone and hit them from the other side). Then we took on Nimbul using hide-approach-shoot-retreat-hide tactics (it's possible to get out without being seen if you move out of sight after the attack roll but before the damage roll, though this only worked on the first shot - either I wasn't fast enough the second time or it doesn't work once the enemy turns hostile). Nimbul went down with help from the Nashkel guards (nice of them not to be mad about that commoner Jaheira murdered earlier) though I was disappointed that he used Ray of Enfeeblement and Charm/Dire Charm on the same person - seems fairly pointless. Oh well. Osric reached L4 in this - can't wait to try out called shot (Does anyone know how long the effects of Called Shot last?)

When you see rigid thinking coming, it's time to head through a door. The spell doesn't penetrate the door and thus gets wasted.

Caddy has completed BG1.  After recruiting Imoen he teamed up with Drizzt early on, which made it easy to whizz through the game.  Once the bulk of the basic game was complete recruited Jet'laya and then Wulfgar and Regis helped out in the Drizzt saga.  Only problems were:
- in the fight against Mulahey Drizzt killed him, but then was killed himself by 3 criticals in a row leaving Caddy and Imoen (then only low level) to kill the stragglers.
- in the Drizzt saga there is a fight against Kangaxx.  Although I've never fought him in BG2 rumours suggest he can be a nasy opponent.  Hence all characters made use of scrolls of magic (only such use in game).
- in the final battle of Drizzt saga all characters except Drizzt and Caddy were killed (not surprising they were the only two with 100% magic resistance).
- tried to complete Dark Horizons, but was unable to - according to their web-site there is an encounter in Baldur's Gate (Oversight Estate).  I've looked for this before without success and still couldn't find it - anyone else had any luck with this.
