Before heading to the bandit camp Ravvy took care of a couple of other things.  First was getting the constitution tome - now she had green amulet protection the sirenes were easy, even though one of them attempted to hide in the sea.  Inside the cave the flesh golems were a bit slow and provided a tasty snack

Thinking it was a shame to miss out on such easy XP Ravi headed up the coast for some more sirenes.  While there she also made use of her druid spells against an ogre clan.  That area also came perilously close to killing her when attacking Shoal.  She is easily killed from range, but I thought I might speed things up slightly by casting entangle and leading Shoal through it.  First couple of runs through no-one got stuck, but on the third time I was horrified when Ravi's little legs suddenly started pumping away without moving her at all - the ring of free action was protecting against the entangle graphic, but not against the effectPosted Image.  Fortunately, almost immediately after Ravvy got stuck so did Shoal before she could get into kissing range.  Ravvy hastily unlimbered her wand of heavens and a shot from that and a sling bullet ended the danger.  That adventure got Ravvy to level 9 and access to 5th level spells.

A quick trip to Durlag's Tower for a tome of wisdom and Ravvy was finally ready for the bandit camp.  She approached openly and waited for a good crowd to start following her before loosing some shots from the necklace of missiles.  Three of those accounted for Venkt, along with a number of bandits.  Ravvy then picked off the remainder with slash and run attacks in wolf form - Taugosz was the last to fall.

After an uneventful trip through the woods Ravvy arrived at the Cloakwood mines.  She summoned some allies and I thought the battle outside the mines might be easy when both mages got confused by the nymphs.  However, the nymphs refused to obey my commands and kept throwing spells at Drasus (who had taken a potion of magic shielding) and by the time the confusion had worn off Genthore and one of the mages were still active.  Ravvy used a scroll of magic protection and wore Genthore down with wolf attacks.  This took a while, however, as Genthore's AI switched weapons very rapidly between missile and melee - this was one of the few occasions where he attacked with the wrong one.  When he was dead Ravvy ignored the other mage (now invisible) and took a potion to go invisible herself in order to bypass Hareishan.

Still with the scroll of magic protection up she triggered Daveorn.  A number of guards had followed her downstairs, but they were mostly crisped by Daveorn's sunfire.  Ravvy then used the wolf form for mobility, changing to human to fire bullets / wand every now and then.  She had just got rid of all Daveorn's protections when her own scroll ran out.  However, by this time Daveorn appeared to be out of dangerous spells and he didn't last much longer.  A tasty jelly for an after-dinner snack got Ravvy her final level.  She has just arrived in Baldur's Gate for the end-game.

Well, that was an unimpressive end to things.

Olansus was waylaid by Carrion Crawlers who spawned right on top of him. One hit and he was immobilised, and it was all over after that. Frustrating, but there you go.

I'm not sure what to play for my next run (or even if I feel up to one right now). I'm tempted to try GemRB with the Monk/Sorcerer mod, but I'm not sure how easily I can get it to work on Windows.

Condolences. I had that happen to one of my characters a number of years ago (it was a Ghast rather than a Carrion Crawler though). That's a bummer...:(

Sorry to hear the end of your run, Fred.
@Grond0: I also just beat Davaeorn and starting BG quests/battles as well.

Yeah, it's a bit annoying because I loaded it back up after a bit of a break only to have the run ended rather ignobly. I actually thought that travelling alone (needed to raise Imoen, since the Worgs had just gotten her) between the lighthouse area and the one south of it was a bit dodgy just after clicking it, but I didn't expect them to pop up *right* on top of me. Not really fair, you could argue, but them's the breaks.

Ouch.

Morig, LG human male cavalier.

Travelling with Imoen, Viconia, Jaheira and Edwin but not Minsc. Level 1 confession; I now realise I may have been tricked by Edwin and Dynaheir may not have been a witch.

I grab some experience level 2, armour, sword and girdle before dealing with Nashkel mine. On our way out Viconia shuts two spellcasters down and we go to work.
Posted Image

Telka runs off so we switch to Maneira. She panics as Jaheira drops her with a bullet. Lamahla is next, killed by an arrow from Imoen. Zeela starts casting so I critical her to the ground as Telka returns so Jaheira can add to her tally level 3 reached.

Berrun Ghastkill is pleased to hear the mine is in operation again, and we celebrate by eliminating Nimbul. Edwin charms Algernon into speaking to Tranzig.
Posted Image

Teven is held while his men are sleeping. Raiken is doomed and commanded, then we out-fight his men. We rest before heading to the bandit camp.

Trying my hand at this - after a few successful minimal reload challenges (because they're oh so difficult :D) I'll throw in a F/M character. The concept is that of an arcane archer, better done with a F/M combo than the archer kit, methinks.

Still yet to roll the stats, but is a female (not sure whether to go half-elf or elf - is the DEX bonus worth the CON decrease?) Fighter/Mage called Sylvia.

Mods installed:
UB
Mini quests and encounters
BGTutu
NPCmod
Grey Clan
Sirine Quest
Tweakpack alterations including unlimited stacking, true grandmastery, all Cloakwood levels opened up before chapter 5, fun things like that.

@corey_russell - look forward to seeing you in Amn shortly.
@Gate70 - sounds like you're making rapid progress with Morig. Keep it up.
@PicklePepperPiper - welcome and the best of luck. With a fighter/mage both the fighter and mage parts benefit from 18 constitution, so I would say it's probably not worth giving that up for an extra point of dexterity for most players. A possible exception would be if you expect nearly all of your combat to be ranged (as 19 dex gives you extra +1 to hit).

Cheers, Grond0, I'll go with the half-elf then.

After rolling, and rolling, and rolling, the best I could get is 88 so here she is:

Sylvia

Half-Elf
Lawful Neutral
F/M
STR 18/55
DEX 18

Proposed party - just her and Coran. Should be fun.

Ravvy has defeated Sarevok and will move on to BG2.  She didn't spend a lot of time in Baldur's Gate - just taking on Ramazith and picking up a couple of tomes, a cloak and a helmet before visiting the Iron Throne.  Ravvy played hide and seek up and down the stairs with the party there and triumphed without problems.

On the way to Candlekeep Ravvy suddenly became aware of something she'd forgotten to do and reversed course back to the city.  Marek was waiting there; I made a bit of a mistake with him when thinking that insect plague had shut down his spells - Ravvy's green amulet protected her from a sequencer charm person, but that was more by luck than judgement.

Finally at Candlekeep Ravvy had an uneventful time there.  Used the violet potion to ransack the tombs and then strolled out invisible.  On the way back to the city remembered to pick up the golden pantaloons and also rest in order to acquire the final Bhaal power.  In the city spoke to Tamoko and then went back to the Iron Throne.  Lost some golems on the stairs there before dealing with Cythandria.  In the undercellar Slythe didn't last long against Ravvy's little helpers, though I was a bit put out that Kristin managed to summon some monsters while being insect plagued - I haven't installed the SCS component that nerfs this spell.  However, they didn't help her much.

At the palace I decided that Ravvy wasn't quite tough enough to go toe to toe with the greater dopplegangers and tried to lead them up the stairs.  I was a bit dismayed when the first attempt to do this drew a grand total of 0 dopplegangers after her.  However, when she came back and feinted to attack before running away again she got a far better catch.  Upstairs a few blasts from the necklace of missiles brought the dopplegangers into line and Ravvy was able to save both dukes.

With far more resources available for the fight with Sarevok than really needed Ravvy took a boring zero risk approach.  The temple was approached invisibly and launched a number of blasts from necklace of missiles before showing herself to Sarevok.  A final blast killed Semaj before he had a chance to do anything.  Sarevok, Diarmid and Tazok were left in a corner while Ravvy hunted Angelo using a scroll of magic protection.  Even fully buffed Ravvy wasn't a match for Angelo in melee, but with a THAC0 of 2 (thanks to a potion of power) it didn't take too long to wear through Angelo's 3 mirror images and 3 stoneskins with sling bullets.

With the necklace exhausted Ravvy launched a dozen flaming potions into the corner, which accounted for Tazok and badly damaged Diarmid.  A few blasts from the wand of heavens finished off Diarmid and Ravvy then ran Sarevok around for a while using wand and sling until he was almost dead before tearing him apart at the end.  Sarevok actually hit Ravvy after he had already made his death speech, which suggests the possibility that they could both have died simultaneously if Ravvy had been low on HP at the time.

Sylvia is almost through the prologue - already a few stumbles. Firstly, she decided to save up to buy the composite longbow. But about a minute after she had looked the the first chest, I recieved the message that someone had spotted me and had to pay up all my money. So starting from scratch, I had to try find 112 gold to buy the longbow I was too stingy to purchase in the first place.

Shank died from a magic missile, but Carbos was only brought down to near death so Sylvia had to finish him off with Hull's sword with a terrible THACO of 20 and no armor. None of the guards rushed to Sylvia's aid. Even Gorion looked on indifferently as the child he was so desperate to save ran about the Candlekeep grounds bleeding, chased by a man wielding a knife.

After all the quests, I only had 108 gold - 4 off the mark. But in a last ditch attempt I went to the party battle training place. Succes! The party has recieved 9, 7 then 4 gold. However, when I went outside, Arkanis asked if he could stay in the group (huh?) so I said no - but he's persistent. His portrait icon is there, I can access his inventory and character sheet, but I can't see him, boot him or ctrl-Y him. I can't re-enter the training room.

So I'm not sure what to do. He'll take valuable XP from me and all that. Plus it's a portrait I've never particularly liked. Is there and area code for the training room, or a manual way of booting party members out?

It might just be easier to export my character and restart, going straight to Gorion. I think I'll do that. Already compromising the conditions of a no reload! (I'll donate the extra gold I recieve to the church in little bits)

I take it that's a way of avoiding the reputation loss for killing an innocent? If so, I must admit it's pretty clever (at least, I never thought of it).

Oh well, I'd have said the dexterity was much more important. But then I'd also have gone thief/mage as arcane archer to hide in shadows, or even looked at what this mod offers.

Yes, first time I've done it. Had a recent run where he got a lightning strike (unintentional), I'm sure there are other ways too.

At lower scores I would agree that dexterity is the more important statistic.  However, if it's being maxed there's no difference in AC between 19 (or 20 with the tome) dexterity, so the elf only gets the +1 to hit with missile weapons (and loses even that advantage once the tome is available).  That would still probably be worth it for a solo character that was mainly using ranged weapons, but I would have thought the extra HPs would be more important for a fighter/mage in a party.

The antichickenator is pulled off with success. Now gimme all your money Melicamp!

Saved Araelle from some pesky Smurfs, now gimme all your money Hulrik!

Took care of Mulahey (spammed the necklace of missiles and laid a few traps) Xan din't like what he saw so had to be disposed of.

Left the mines and act as target practice for some skele's critical hits:

How unfair is that? I land a critical once in a blue moon!
Somehow manage to backslap the Revenant, thought you couldn't backstab undead?
Posted Image

Took out Nimbul with little difficulty:
Posted Image

Feeling confident went Basilisk hunting, got lost amidst a wealth of wilderness areas, stumbled across the lovely Ioin, Dribben and Billy (totally forgot they were there), they destroy all my images in a heartbeat and land a critical. Don't have a screenshot for this one because I did a ragequit, made a cup of tea and stayed well away from the PC for a good few hours of so.
This game really stresses me out.

Condolences.

Morig, LG human male cavalier. Travelling with Imoen, Viconia, Jaheira and Edwin.

Jaheira scalps Ardenor Crush while I finish a doomed and commanded Taugosz Khosann. I add Credus to my list, then upgrade my armour and hand the ankheg plate to Viconia. In the largest bandit tent, nobody can hear you scream.
Posted Image

Viconia and Edwin are getting tetchy after a bit of thought Andout is killed for a reputation hit of 8 leaving 9. Can't really think of a RP reason to justify this one.

As a penance for this act I insist we put our Cloakwood task on hold and perform some goodly deeds starting with Mutamin, Kirian and basilisks. Strangely, each of these tasks turns out to be beneficial to us until I leave Melicamp with Thalantyr clicked the wrong option, sorry Melicamp.

Into Cloakwood, where we help Aldeth Sashenstar, recruit Coran for ranged THACO not thieving, kill Centeol, kill ambushing wyverns and a hamadryad. Imoen and I end up doing the dirty work for Coran.
Posted Image

After temple rewards for wyverns and Bassilus we empty our backpacks in Beregost and travel to Cloakwood mine.
Posted Image

Edwin casts invisibility on me before I attack Hareishan. Edwin then casts sleep and not a guard saves. Past a few more guards and Viconia casually sends a single skeleton towards Davaeorn no XP here though.

Finally, Baldur's Gate. Home of a sewer dwelling ogre mage, entrophy, doppelgangers in the Seven Suns. Well, until we turned up; following our brief rampage they're all dead now. Scar is pleased and takes us to see Duke Eltan. He wants us to investigate the Iron Throne HQ. In a minute good sir.

First we must deal with Varci Roaringhorn, Marek and Lothander, Jardak and his butler, Ramazith, Vail, Larze, Quenash and Sunin. Now we're ready.

OK so I'm thinking of trying a Monk character this time. I was going to go for a slightly more eclectic option (after having Imoen as an Assassin I wanted to try one, then got to thinking about Assassin->Mage or Fighter->Assassin, slightly illegal though the latter is, etc) but I've never actually played a Monk before. IIRC I have "all classes may backstab" installed so I should be able to get slightly more mileage from his Stealth.

I'll post back when I roll a character, but here are the NPCs I've modded:
Ajantis - Inquisitor
Dynaheir - Sorcerer
Faldorn - Avenger
Garrick - Blade
Imoen - Shashbuckler again (Swash 5-> Mage again I think)
Jaheira - Totemic Druid
Khalid - (slightly illegal) Fighter/Invoker (shh...)
Minsc - Beserker again (replacing defeat rage ability)
Monty - Assassin
Xan - Sorcerer

I'm planning this time on taking Khalid and Jaheira, possibly the "full cannon" party (them plus Minsc and Dynaheir) at some point. However I figured I'd mod the others in an attempt to minimise reinstallation and stuff later. Also corrected the missing out of the BG1 NPC Project form my install. Also missed Lost Items but I can't be bothered to fix that. Otherwise the mod setup is the same as last time.

OK, here is Tamakashi the Lawful Good Human Male Monk:
Str 18, Dex 18, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 10, Cha 10 (uninspiring)
Missile Weapons: *, Long Swords: *

Only problem is it turns out that I *still* managed to screw up my install. It seems everybody has double the -3 penalty from BG walking speeds. This seems to clash with FP&PS so that people like the Gatewarden run REALLY FAST. Looks like I'm going to have to reinstall everything all over again...

Also, as a side note, is there any way to install things like L1NPCs through a batch file?

Heather the level 7 Human Mage - FINAL Update

Well we did a lot of miscellaneous stuff in the City of Baldur's Gate, with no real problems. That was soon to change at Degrodel's, however. For the first wave of minions, the party did quite well. Heather herself single-handedly kiled the battle horrors with lots of magic missiles, burning hands and aganazer's scorcher via wand.

We talked to Degrodel and triggered the 2nd wave of minions. However, we forgot to remove fear fist (jaheira had one available). Everyone failed their save but Branwen - she used a remove fear when we first entered, only Jaheira could fix this. Imoen was quickly killed.  A doom guard targeted Heather, she ran away near Branwen and Branwen tried to heal her but it wasn't in time.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, grats Grond0 on taking down Sarevok!

Condolences Corey.

Morig, LG human male cavalier. Travelling with Imoen, Viconia, Jaheira and Edwin. FINAL Update

Back to Candlekeep where we create some vacancies at the top of the Iron Throne, and are arrested. Tethtoril frees us and Imoen leads us through the trapped catacombs. Our buffs are too much for Prat and his gang, and we are quickly free.

Tamoko gives me some clues. First, Cythandria, easily disposed of. Second, Slythe and Kristin are again easily disposed of too. This leaves Rashad, and Edwin uses 10' invisibility for us to rescue Duke Eltan.

Time for the coronation low level for this at 56k xp but party is quite tough.
Posted Image

Our pounding works, although Edwin has insisted on slow, horror and sleep. Belt and Liia watch us finish the last doppelganger.
Posted Image

Belt sends us after Sarevok, through a maze and into an abandoned undercity. Rahvin and his gang prove to be tough until we kill Gorf 2 hits for 20 each put Morig in trouble.

I talk Tamoko out of attacking us, then we head inside to deal with Sarevok. Imoen removes two traps and I use a potion of genius to activate a scroll of protection from magic while everybody else is hasted. Then I draw Sarevok out.

Coran fails to dispel Sarevoks haste so we cast malison, doom, web, poison saved, blind saved and add arrows of biting and piercing.
Posted Image

Sarevok breaks free and hits me, then gets caught again.
Posted Image

He breaks free again as I gulp another potion but Edwin has been stacking up Melfs and magic missiles.
Posted Image

Morig has 68k xp after the battle, still level 6 of a possible 8. Will grab the tome of wisdom from Durlags Tower and retrieve the golden pantaloons before reporting back to Belt.

Condolences and congratulations to all concerned.

I uninstalled the BG2 Tweaks component which reduces speed and everything seemed fine, so I just left it like that. The inhabitants of Candlekeep did get stuck with variously screwy speeds, but all the area which hadn't been loaded seem OK, so Tamakashi got on his way. I made one mistake buying a Two-Handed Sword which claimed to be usable by Monks, but wasn't. Damn. Give me a katana any day!

One thing mere mortals don't understand is that Tamakashi is incredibly fast. When he's somewhere, he isn't; he's already somewhere else. He could get out of bed, turn off the light, and it'd still be light when he got back in bed. As such, by the time Imoen caught up with him, she hadn't, because he wasn't there. He'd already collected Gorion's stuff and moved on south.

At High Hedge, he ran into some Gnoll Veterans. He killed one with hit-and-run dart tactics, then ran into some Cave Bears, which he ran away from. He then ran into more gnolls, who he eventually killed after leading them on a merry chase (gaining Perdue's Short Sword) and some skeletons. Luckily he ran so fast they couldn't hit him with their throwing daggers.

Tamakashi was fortunate to have his rest interrupted by a Ghast - the slow creature would provide enough easy XP for him to reach L2. However, we was unfortunate enough that sleeping had given the skeletons time to catch up with him. After a long sprint through the woods, evading the skeletons then sneaking back to try and find the ghast, to having to evade skeletons again, to running into gnolls, then more skeletons, then a cave bear who *nearly* caught him, he headed on to Beregost.

There, a family quarrel and an angry bar patron gave him his 2nd level. A book was collected for Firebead, and Tamakashi headed south. Two Ogrillions were slain, providing his 3rd level, and a letter delivered to Mirianne, who provided a magic ring.

With a much healthier hit point total, and an AC of 3 (-1 vs missiles), I think Tamakashi can handle going it solo for a bit longer. It'd probably be wise to pick up Imoen before taking on, say, Tarnesh, but he still has the ogre on the Coast Way to deal with, Melicamp to rescue (will need to kill a wolf and a skeleton, though), and all of Nashkel (Noober, The Amazing Oopah, possibly Brage if returning him to the Temple, etc), which should get him to L4, especially if he can take down Karlat (thanks to his speed) to do Perdue's and the Slime quests.

Congratulatoins Gate70! Good luck in Amn.

@Grond0 - I was going to make it, but honestly I was so BORED with the PC as a mage - I like to get into the action and with a mage, that's a no-go (with BG 1 spells at least it is). I also needed the experience, so chose a risky option with Degrodel - I was pretty sure we could do it, but wasn't aware Degrodel used horror - live and learn.
