The near disaster happened when we fought a sirine down south part of this area. She charmed Veene - killing the Sirine was no problem, but our mass of skeletons was starting to kill Veene! Veene started to peg Imoen so she tried to run away, only to find two ghouls joined the party. The party members started killing the skeletons as Viconia was out of heals. Imoen then got held off-screen by a ghoul - the party somehow managed to kill the ghoul in time, Imoen had a shred of life left. Veene also had a shred of life left (maybe 8 HP) - finally his charm wore off and the skeletons called off their attack of him. Good thing Veene's AC is good enough that the skeletons mostly only got hits off criticals.

Sounds exciting.  Is it not possible in vanilla to turn AI off and order the skeletons elsewhere?

Thanks - I found this speed run less stressful than the last.  I guess practice must improve even mePosted Image.  After I stopped the timer I sent Ergot to get the 2 tomes he had not picked up on his travels (gnoll stronghold and Durlag's Tower) and then reported in to Belt for the next lot of duties.  His final stats included 292 kills - probably a bit high, but the advantage of the axe was that most of the kills in the early part of the game were one-shots with throwing axe (so took little game time).

Turning AI off in vanilla only affects party members not summons. I did try to send them away but I had a ton and they promptly turned around and attacked Veene.

I find BG2-style summons do just attack by themselves, you have to repeat your orders a lot. This can be pretty annoying when you're trying to priority target, and they keep going for the nearest guys. However I would have thought you could have kept them a little away from the party. I also have gMinion installed this time, going to see how much difference that makes.

Speaking of skeletons, Tamakashi has turned out to be quite the skeleton-slayer. After clearing the hobgoblins for Joia and returning Gurke's cloak, we headed off to rescue Melicamp. This meant taking out some skellies, which was easy thanks to Tamakashi's new belt (got a double spawn of them, so he would have been done for without it, I fancy). Though his stealth abilities are meagre, he can hide in shadows and run up behind people before sleeper-holding them. If I ever said Tamakashi was a Monk, I apologise - he's a ninja!

South of High Hedge, he karate-chopped a wolf. Imoen helped finish it off with some darts. She's a bit useless at the moment - actually, with two points in Short Swords, she's pretty neat with daggers (16 THAC0, better damage than darts) but we don't have so many of those, though I went on a skeleton-killing spree once I determined it was relatively safe, so she has a small stock now. For the most part, she's on darts, though, which makes he a bit of a spare part.

Unfortunately, Melicamp didn't survive. I could have used the XP, too, but I guess it's not cruical at this stage. One point to note is that the Tasloi in the Cloakwood provided more overpowered potions from iiItem. These give you free criticals, though deal damage and slow you, so their not so bad, but I was getting 2 per Tasloi (except the one dropping the cloak). It seems the iiItem code assigns potions randomly to different creatures at install time. This is fine, and the potions *are* expensive so it's not like you can just buy loads from stores, but the problem is that it's giving potions to non-unique creatures. This means when you run into a mob of them, you get a whole bagful of potions. I'm thinking of keeping a couple of the critical ones and maybe one Potion of Refreshment tops, and dumping the rest, because I didn't install all these toughness mods to make the game super easy with a few potions.

Poor Minsc, incidentally!

I agree, it was poor Minsc! He is the most chunked NPC in both BG 1 and BG 2 for me. I think it's pretty pathetic that I had to let Safana join even though it's a bad fit (3 thieves now, and when we get Coran will be 4), just so I would have more looting capability. If my rep is not too high, maybe I can switch her with Tiax - he's the only BG 1 character I have never used.

Lots of great updates here! Vaclavc, if you're still around, is it possible to get a run down of your battle with Aec'letec? That's really the only battle in BG1 where I've had to rely on uber cheese to get out alive.

Sylvia and Coran took down Bassilus easily enough. We didn't interrupt any of his spells but Coran saved against spells both times. Unfortunately Melicamp didn't survive the antichickenator so no XP on that front.

Haven't touched the game in a while, but should have a more substantial update soon.

Sylvia's rather short run came to an end on the sirine map.

All was going well up till then. The mines were easily done (Coran backstabbed Mulahey to intiate the battle) and Nimbul fell to one of Coran's traps. Taking the tip from a few other non-reloaders here, I charmed Algernon and Tranzig killed him, but I never had the chance to use the cloak.

I had cleared most of the map. Unfortunately, my tactic of picking sirines off one by one (they don't get a chance to let off a spell with both Coran and Sylvia having 3 and a half APR) was ruined and Sylvia was charmed not once but five times from the barrage of charm spells that came flying at her. All it took was an arrow of biting (Sylvia had the antidotes) to Coran and he died, ending the run.

I've already got another character off the ground. A chaotic evil half-orc barbarian. I've never played an evil party, a half-orc or a barbarian before so should be fun!

Duzak killed Firebeard and got his first level. He then stole Nessa's antidote and two healing potions from the infirmary and left Candlekeep. After taking all of Imoen's gear and sending her on her way, Duzak enlisted Xzar and Monty and headed immediately south. Marl got on his nerves so they killed him and Monty also attacked Marl's friend, dropping our reputation to 4. I couldn't remember at what point the flaming fist start showing up so I took the party and spent most of our gold getting our rep up to 7 at the temple.

Karlat was dealt with and Mirianne's ring returned. Kagain was also enlisted (changed his proficiencies to warhammer ** and sword and shield **) and his quest done, but by this point Xzar was kicking up a fuss and demanding that we head to Nashkel.

That we did. Niera was killed, Xzar and Monty were satisfied and we decided to help Edwin kill some witch at gnoll stronghold. A few mishaps on the way (Xzar was killed in an ambush and promptly booted from the party) but the party arrived at the stronghold in good spirits (no one liked the crazy Zhent agent anyway).

Gauntlets of Dex were given to Kagain, charisma tome was read by Duzak and Dynaheir was dispatched.

Party will head north and recruit Shar-Teel and Viconia. Trying to think of a suitable replacement for Monty - maybe Tiax?

Sounds like a nice run you've got going there.  I think Tiax would fit in well - his ghast should be a welcome addition.

I've never used Tiax either and he actually looks pretty cool (albeit crazy). Only thing is that waiting until Ch 5 is tough; there's a mod which moves him to a more accessible location, I think, though his Ghast might be a tad overpowered then.

Imoen and Tamakashi tried the Lonely Peaks. Arghain and his Half-Ogres are always a pain, but the issue came when Immy ran into some DH-style SCS kobolds, and we fled.

Instead, we hit the Nashkel-Beregost road again. Killing Ghouls provided a little XP, and some nice loot. We also found a pair of boots after killing a hostile hobgoblin (Tamakashi now has 50/50 in Hide and Move Silently). Unfortunately, some Flaming Fist accused us of being bandits and attacked us - at least we got three suits of plate mail, though (I think they should give a little more than 16 XP each, too, but there you go). It turns out it's hard to catch ninjas whilst so encumbered, but it's also hard to kill armoured men with mere darts. Taking 1 damage many, many times is too much even for hardened warriors, however.

I'm going to try and clear out the other group of half-ogres, the ones Bjornin ran into. The duo might not be ready for them yet, but we'll see how things go.

Veene the level 8 Human Thief continues his adventures...

The party has cleared basically all all areas, except the 4 red wizards area and TotSC areas. With the skeleton distractions, the bandit camp went pretty smooth. For Tazok's tent, thought I might as well take advantage of our thief preponderance (Imoen, Safana, Veene) - Veene stealthed and Imoen cast invisibility on Safana since her stealth score is so poor. Veene and Safana opened the battle with backstabs, the result was very smooth, and victory was assured.

The Cloakwood went very smooth, no deaths. We recruited Coran, and he's been an excellent addition to the party. I don't need his thief skills, but we gave him full plate, +1 ring, spider's bane, bow of markmanship and boots of avoidance. He's been a VERY solid contributor to the party.

The Cloakwood mines were dealt with cleanly. As for Davaeorn, we used the standard anti-mage buffs on Kagain and Kagain soloed him.

We headed to Baldur's Gate, got the DEX tome for Veene, and recruited Tiax and kicked out Safana. This is my first time using him. His thief skills were very poor, he wasn't good at anything, and he's not a great cleric either. However, he's less squishy than Safana (47 HP), can wear Ankheg armor and a large shield, and has a ghast summon. I'm pleased with this party change.

Party Status:
Kagain - level 7 fighter, 67 HP
Coran - level 5 fighter/level 6 thief, 40 HP
Viconia - level 7 cleric, 40 HP
Tiax - level 5 cleric/level 6 thief, 47 HP
Veene - level 8 thief, 55 HP
Imoen - level 2 thief dualed to level 7 mage, 39 HP

RIP Iris, F Human Berserker (planned to dual class to mage)

She was my most successful attempt to date. She and Imoen paired and worked their way down the road to Nashkel, cleared the mines, cleared the bottom row of maps, picked up Dynaheir (just to be reunited with Minsc and released), worked the row of maps to the W of Nashkel, and then decided to clear the Beregost temple map.

With AC in the -4 range, a good THAC0, and decent levels ( 5 for her, 6 for Immy IIRC ), things were looking good and I got sloppy. I didn't know (or didn't remember) that Vampiric wolves can hold person on successful attack, and feel victim to a Vampiric wolf with a natural 20 hit followed by a very poor to-save roll. Nothing Imoen could do could prevent her demise after that point.

Next attempt? RIP Cleric of Talos (expected to dual to mage). Low level lightning bolt wasn't really as effective as I thought it might be. He dropped Imoen immediately, picked up Xzar and Montaron, picked up Kagain, and headed up to clean off the bandits so Kagain would stay in the group.

Sadly, the archer group around the broken wagons (BG1NPC mod) was plenty capable of driving an armor-poor party into the ground, and did so. I wasn't particularly happy with the character (mostly I just don't enjoy playing evil) so I was being pretty aggressive and wasn't upset about his end.

Current attempts? Two parties:

1) Single player game with Zin (Wild Mage). Did skimming and picked up all of the "canon" characters while still at first level ( Imoen, Khalid, Jaheria, Minc, Dynaheir ). The Gnoll Elites at the fortress were quite difficult (killed off Minsc & Jaheria at various points) so once Dynaheir was added to the party we made a sprint to the exit and went back to the Lion's way near Candlekeep.

2) Multiplayer game. The three characters are Sorc (protagonist), cleric of Helm, and Elf F/T/M triple class (my character). So far, the FTM is rather weak but I am enjoying the character, even though I mostly am just an archer, working primarily on Find Traps / Open Locks. Despite having a significant level disadvantage to the other two, FTM is doing great, carrying a majority of the kills in the party. 2 attacks per round with the bow, plus specialization in bow, has done a lot for killing things off at range (although with only one spell and relatively few HP, I am next to worthless in melee).

Hard luck with the wolves - they're best dealt with using magic arrows.  Enjoy yourself with Zin (though your party members might not when a fireball erupts around themPosted Image).

Veene the level 9 human thief continues his adventures...

Veene's party has finished all the city of Baldur's Gate quests/battles that they will be doing in chapter 5. What's interesting is Veene at different times has killed two unarmed citizens in the wilderness (the drunk at Beregost Temple area and the farmer whose cow got attacked by xvarts) so that his evil party members would stop complaining...so much easier to handle rep in BG 1 than 2.

The party won their battles pretty cleanly. One battle was touch and go, and almost got Coran chunked. However, Coran ran away and Larze couldn't get him with the party members in the way. Even Kagain was getting clobbered. We used two wand of heavens, magic missiles, and for once two backstabs from Veene. Imoen was kind enough to put invisibility on him for the first backstab, the Veene used a ring of invisibility charge for the 2nd.

Thanks to Imoen's ridiculously expensive robe (30750 gold), we don't have money for arrows of detonation. So we did a rather different strategy for me for the 5th floor Iron Throne Sarevok acolytes, partly inspired by the two clerics of the party (Tiax and Viconia). I did a test run vs. the mountain maulers - two shots of wand of fear and emotion, was completely devasting against the maulers, thought would try against Sarevok's acolytes. What was important was I gave Kagain 100% fire resistance and kept everyone else at range. Just to be safe, Veene had a protection from magic scroll active on him. So Kagain charged, clerics fired a wand of fear, Imoen emotion, Coran throwing axes, Veene having to settle for arrows of biting. Second round we threw in 3 fireballs (fireball wand, necklace of missiles x2), then it was just mop up. What's funny is I thought the battle was over, charmed Thaldorn to get his info then two casters showed up! Not sure if they were invisible or sleeping with emotion. But my party was at point blank range, and mowed them down in no more than 2 rounds - the casters didn't get anything effective off. In fact the party would have been completely undamaged, except Viconia was a bit too close to a fireball fired by a party member.

We went to Beregost to our "base", a barrel and got stuff we will need possibly like potion of mirror eyes and put away things like wands of fear, which won't be of much help in Candlekeep crypts. We reported our success to Eltan then we entered Candlekeep. We did not kill the Iron Throne leaders, even though the experience would have been helpful -- there's usually a monk or two that go hostile and I can't afford a rep loss since it's just average. No need to get hunted by the law, thanks. We did kill "Shistal" and a "monk" studying a cat.

Forgot to mention, once I got to Baldur's Gate, I splurged on some potions of master thievery (2) so that Coran could get us Dushai's ring of free action. I tried to get him much earlier, but he/she either saved vs algeron's cloak OR his magic resistance would kick in.

In the first crypt area, Veene of course did great work de-trapping and picking locks (both are 100%). As a reward of his work, he got both the wisdom tome (well he will dual to cleric in BG 2) and the strength tome (to help backstabs - no one in the party really needs it - wel Tiax does but he needs like 5 strength tomes).

When we next hear from him he will be in the 2nd level of the Candlekeep Crypts.

Party Status/Line-up:
Coran, level 6 fighter/level 7 thief, 42 HP
Kagain, level 7 fighter, 67 HP
Viconia, level 8 cleric, 48 HP
Tiax, level 6 cleric/ level 6 thief, 49 HP
Veene - level 9 thief, 60 HP
Imoen - level 2 thief dualed to level 8 mage, 45 HP

Do you not get unlimited number of uses of Algernon's Cloak in vanilla?  When I use this to move him away from other people it sometimes takes a fair number of attempts to get through his MR and saves.  When I can't use the cloak (or am restricting its use) and don't have pickpocket available the other possibility to stop others becoming hostile is to kill him really quickly (before anyone notices what's going on).

If you have Tutu, a way of getting the cloak without pickpocketting is to get an enemy to follow you to Algernon. A spider for example. Then charm him. The spider will kill him, you kill the spider and you get the cloak. I did this once fighting Karlat who had been duplicating himself (A glitch) and I had to run. Had this idea. He killed Algernon, I got the cloak. He got charmed. I survived. Then used the cloak so that the duplicates killed each other.

Diary of Sneaky ant Truestaff continued.

Bug Problem. Any answers?

Day 132
We rescued the sick duke and got Sarevok’s diary from his significant other. Then killed a couple of assassins at the blushing mermaid. Then went to the party and recued the two dukes there. That was easy, sneaky cast web and since we both had rings of freedom of action, we just attacked those doppelgangers that were not held. Truestaff healed the dukes from time to time with the result that even at the end of the battle, we were all quite healthy. After a flying visit to ice island, we have found some sea charts and will take them to Mendas.
Day 135
We have been shipwrecked near the island that we were heading for.
Day 138
We have done all the quests on the island barring the return of the baby and the killing of one greater wolfwere.
(Despite injuring it several times with magic missile etc. it is uninjured. We therefore ran away in order to get healed and return. However it is no longer there. Posted Image We picked up a baby, but the mother seems to think that we have not returned it. Is there a way of solving this problem as I have no previous saves to go back to.Posted Image Create creature etc. using Shadowkeeper? Or failing that resetting a variable.

I would rather beat the beast, but failing all else, I suppose that I could cheat and use the Move to area command. Help would be appreciated.)

Well, it's not unlimited, but it is a huge number of uses, yes. However, the problem wasn't the game but rather human nature. After about 2 dozen failed attempts of trying to charm Dushai to lure him away so I could kill them, I just got tired of trying. : )

@Grimwald: sorry to hear about your bug, but I don't have an answer for ya.

Tamakashi and Imoen cleared out the half-ogres, were nearly killed by cave bears outside High Hedge, fled from kobolds, and got enough XP for Imoen to reach L5 and dual-class. The Xvart village proved too much even with Sleep, however, and though Tamakashi was running circles around the Xvart horde whilst throwing darts at the only foe who could truly match him, Ursa the Cave Bear, eventually we were overwhelmed and forced to retreat. It was close, Tamakashi nearly got trapped against the cliff-face by Xvarts and had to leap over Ursa to escape.

We killed Brage easily and returned his body to Nashkel. However, I rather foolishly decided to try and take on Neira with Blindness. The problem was Imoen only had one spell, which Neira saved against, and Tamakashi got caught by a Hold Person on the way out. Imoen was able to interrupt most of Neira's spells with her Wand of Missiles, but not before she'd cast Animate Dead (which the vanilla version doesn't do) - I didn't really think of the tactic until after then. Imoen could probably have taken her down then, though I don't know what she would have done about the skeletons, but Neira managed to maintain one of her Hold Persons which caught Imoen, who was quickly killed (the skellies were making short work of her anyway). Alas, Tamakashi fell soon after.

@Fred: Ah, Neira strikes again! With the fixpack I think a freedom potion protects you from her hold persons. As Grond0 always tells me when I'm doing a solo character, you could always leave the inn when she is casting it (hold person has a distinctive incantation) and when she's out, put the beat down on her. : )

I had Tamakashi flee but he'd gone a short way into the inn to hit with his darts (risky, but he needed to be able to hit her to interrupt her spells), and even he couldn't run fast enough to get away from that accursed glowing ball of golden death...

Quick update on Veene the level 9 human thief...

Veene and gang (Coran/Kagain/Viconia/Tiax/Imoen) successfully escaped the Candlekeep Crypts. Everything went according to plan, except for Prat. The original plan was for Kagain to be massively buffed and then distract them while the rest of the party throws in fireballs, which will heal Kagain as his fire resistance is >100. Well, Kagain was buffed and he did distract them and Imoen at least got to throw a few fireballs. But the enemies were damaging Kagain quite a bit despite his -7 AC, so much that Kagain's morale broke. At least he ran back to the party rather than toward spiders. Prat made the mistake of moving into the winding passage, allowing the party to unload on him. Imoen was spamming fireballs from her wand of fire, until finally the enemies are dead, Kagain hurt, but no deaths. Alls well that ends well I guess.

For the basilisks, I had Coran take off the cloak of balduran, then Imoen put on protection from petrification via spell (so it wouldn't be resisted. Before taking on the spiders, we tried to buff the fighters with protection from poison, but both got resisted via magic resistance). With a strength potion, Coran then took on the basilisks. Imoen got impatient though and threw in some magic missiles to speed things up.

We sold our junk and had about 30,000 gold. As I found out later, this amount of gold goes FAST when you don't have 20 reputation...(we are about 9 or 10 I believe).

Via sewers and eluding the fist the entire time, we entered the Iron Throne headquarters once again. For Cynthrandria, I had Viconia summon 16 skeletons, then we put chant, bless, haste  on them and sent them to where she was, the party still out of sight. The party then equipped ranged weapons and moved into her sight. Her summons and herself were then beat easily.

We then dealt with Slythe and Krystin. Our secret weapon vs. Slythe was Kagain's darts of stunning. Wand of heavens, magic missiles, acid arrows didn't help him either. Krystin herself was defeated both by ranged fire and well timed magic missiles from Imoen to disrupt her casting.

For the Duchal Palace battle, we had 24 skeletons protect the dukes, the party was to the right, doing ranged fire/wand of heavens while the melees moved from the bottom to engage in hand-to-hand. This was completely successful.

We went to our "base" in Beregost (a barrel) and took all our things we have been saving up. We came back to the Gate and rested, and Veene gained his final Bhaal power. His Bhaal powers are much different than usual for me - LMD, heal, slow poison, ghoul touch, vampiric touch x2.

Next was the maze -- the party handled this like clockwork. For the skeletal warriors, Kagain used his sling and he had -15 to missiles (and his AC was -7 to boot). He only got hit on criticals. Veene ate a magic missile trap, but other than that was smooth here.

I go to the Undercity and looked at our experience levels. Imoen is kind-of close, 7000 for her next level, but that means in a group I need 42000 experience. Don't think there's quite that much here. Don't need her to level 9 to beat Sarevok in any case. So we just dealt with the Iron Throne party. We don't have arrows of detonation, due to money reasons, so the plan was for Kagain with his 100% fire resistance to lure the enemy arrow of detonation, all the while throwing fireballs of our own on Kagain's head. This sort of worked, killed the Ogre, but Kagain was badly hurt (like 7% health), an archer was pegging him. He ran all the way to the entrance to the Undercity. The party was hit with a cloudkill twice, each time backing out of its effect. The archer was still chasing us, but again two wands of heaven and magic missile was too much for him.

This left only the mage and some kind of caster, druid maybe? The party dealt with them easily now that their melee support was gone.

We rested, and tonight it's time for the final showdown.

Ah the joys of vanilla!  I remember 1 run many years ago when I was really pleased with how things were going, but didn't notice that my main character had resisted protection from petrification.  I was not happy when he turned into a statue (well my first reaction was more one of shock and I had to scroll back through the game text to work out what had happened).

Best of luck - I'll expect to see you in Amn soon.

Introducing Zigana, the Half-Orc, Lawful Neutral, Cleric/Thief!

Posted Image

I had this idea a long time ago.  I wanted to do a solo run with a VERY versitile character (as close to F/C/M/T as possible).  I have done reload solos of BG & SoA with a barbarian and with a fighter/cleric/mage.  I know that a fighter/mage/thief would be about as versitile as it gets, but I really wanted to have cleric spells.  The first time I ever played Baldur's Gate I was a Ranger, and the 2nd & 3rd times I was a fighter dualed to a cleric and then a cleric dualed to a fighter.  Also, I never did very well with mage characters, either PC or NPC.  I don't know what it is, but I have always been partial to divine casters and fighters (especially rangers ... probably the LotR/Aragorn fan in me).  (I even did that "What D&D character/class would you be?" survey thing and ended up a True Neutral Cleric with a lean towards good and lawful, with a fighter just behind cleric.  I may try that character out some time if I can find the time!)  So, anyway, the desire to keep cleric spells meant that thief was double good to get me thief skills and mage spells after the UAI HLA.  So there you go, from the build standpoint:  melee strength+cleric spells+trap removal+stealth+mage spells in BG2 where it matters most.

While being very metagamed, the build worked out well in my mind for role playing.  A half-orc would be inclined to melee (high str/dex/con) but could also be a wise cleric (18 wis is possible).  Being a half-orc, she is not beautiful or all that smart (low cha & medium int).  A lawful neutral cleric could work as a wisdom-based strategic character who would see her rouge skills not for theft but for strategic advantage.  (In fact, isn't there a minor god of battle strategy?  Google says:  The Red Knight, also known as "Lady of Strategy" ... nice!)  Zigana is a lone-wolf type that uses her upbringing in Candlekeep along with her ongoing adventuring experience to gain the wisdom needs to find a way to survive.  It fits in with the way I intend to play a no-reload solo game:  avoiding risk as much as possible.  I plan to have her dual-wield flails, cast cleric spells, use the versitile thief skills (especially stealth to scout around a lot!), and mostly avoid battles until she has had a chance to plan it out and get any helpful items, etc.

I am running BGtutu with BG1NPC and some BG2Tweaks such as bags of holding, maps/notes, and weapon styles for all.

-------------------------------------------

Zigana started out buying studded leather, 2 flails, and a helmet from the inn.  She did the standard go-for and training tasks and said goodbye to everyone, though most she talked to did not like her all that much apparently.  Hopefully, Firebead will be a good friend on the outside, since he was one that was nice to her!

She saw her father killed, then scurried carefully with Imoen to the FAI, avoiding all combat.  She used Sanctuary to escape Tarnesh, who was almost killed by the guards.  Imoen finished him with her wand after he ran into the temple, but he did get a Horror off, so Zigana and Imoen ran around in the Temple of Wisdom for a while.

Thank the gods that the neutral ground of the FAI was worth something!  A couple times Tarnesh has killed the guards in my various games!  Zigana and Imoen met Khalid and Jaheira, purchased basic equipment for everyone, but let all three companions go when they insisted on going south to Nashkel (... she did trade Imoen a bunch of spell scrolls for the Wand of Magic Missiles.  Perhaps when they meet again, Imoen will be an accomplished mage!).  Instead, I had Zigana travel north to Baldur's Gate using stealth.  She found the farmer's son with Sanctuary, and then used ended up helping the young priestess just north of there.  She leveled up after helping Tenya, but only added 4hp getting to Level 2/2.  BG was closed, so she headed to Beregost by sneaking through the crossroads area.  No need to pick up the FAI crew again, since she did not intend to go to Nashkel any time soon.

She met Firebead, got his book from Feldpost's and an un-welcoming from the locals.  Selling the treasure she found in the cave got her up over 2,000 gold.  She leveled up one more time talking with Firebead, netting 1hp for a thief level (but she did get to 75&50 for stealth).  It was very early, so the smithy was not open.  Instead, she went to the temple, then south of town.  There she found lots of trouble (but stayed out of sight) and another smaller treasure cave.  She kept going south, met a hermit with some interesting things to say, and then hit the jackpot with Lord Foreshadow (charisma ring IDed by Thalantyr).  She also snuck around high hedge for a while.  From a metagaming standpoint, she walked past a lot of potential experience that she noted for later!

At High Hedge, she had Thaly ID more treasure at from the first cave (wand and armor) and sold it.  This put her over 5,000 gold, so she purchased 3 explosion bottles and a sleep wand.  Then Zigana returned to Beregost to remove the threats just south of town.  This pushed her up to Level 3/4 and 5 more hit points.  She used fire on ghasts and sleep on the ogrillons.

She finally met Thunderhammer, sold some stuff, discovered that she had found some nice boots, but also discovered that the smithy did not have any magical flails!  More Beregost quests/etc.:  Thunderhammer's neighbor Mirianne, Marl & Dunkin, talked to some people in Feldpost's including a crazy gnome.  With imporoved confidence and improved people skills, Zigana returned to the FAI to talk to more people:  Joia, various commoners and noblemen, Surrey, Nessie, Unshey, and Landrin.  Two noblemen of interest:  man with gold pants, which Zigana did not take, and a guy who told an interesting tale (I don't know if I had ever noticed this before!  Was this added with BGtutu?  I know exactly what this refers to, but Zigana does not!).

I had Zigana donate 1,000 gold to the Temple of Wisdom as offerings for increased wisdom and a boost in local reputation.  The Joia quest led to a Cleric level up for 3hp and one more pip in two-weapon style fighting (now Level 4/4).  She did, in fact, finally get some significant practice with the two flails against the hobgoblins (as opposed to the use of fire and wands around Beregost).  She returned to Beregost to kill some spiders for Landrin, storred some items in Landrin's house (this will be her home base), then decided to travel to Nashkel.

Buying the potion case netted her all 4 of the typed bags of holding.   It also turned out that her companions never went to Nashkel themselves, as the mayor said the adventurers he had expected never showed up...  Anyway, talked to Volo in the tavern, Edwin on the bridge (did not take him up on his offer), and Noober.  Then went to the carnival.  She made some trades but could not afford the necklace of missiles.  She traveled west into the mountains based on what the folk of Nashkel said pertaining to their dishonored captain of the guards.  Wandered into a Xvart village and used Sanctuary to explore the place.  Found a Flail +1 in a cave!  Zigana likes caves!  Continued north to help an archiologist, but ended up killing a lot of possessed workers.  Then met Brage and freed him from his madness.  Sold a bunch of stuff in Nashkel, bought 2 stone-to-flesh scrolls, went to rest at the inn, but ran into a bounty hunter, Neira, so she Sanctuaryed it up and left to rest at the carnival.  Had enough gold to buy two magical necklaces/amulets and a protection-from-petrification scroll.  She freed the cleric Branwen, helped her heal, equip, and then sent her on her way, but not before giving Zeke a scare :).  Used the necklace of missiles to kill a bunch of monsters and bandits on the road from Nashkel to Beregost including 2 vampriric wolves.  Leveled up to 4/5 with 2 more hit points.  Fire-blasted more wolves near the Song of the Morning Temple.  Used probably 5-6 charges to get to Level 5/5 which provided the ability to summon skeletons and +5hp (now up to 28hp).  Sold off some stuff around Beregost, rested, dreamed some werid dream, and then continued what she started near the temple eventually going east to fight some basilisks.  Skeletons and a protection scroll made those fights easy.  The mage was rather easy too, since the skeletons took care of him while she soloed his lizards.  She also freed a stone woman.

Leveled up to 5/6 and almost 6/6.  Traveled back to Beregost and then High Hedge to sell her spoils and recharge the necklace.  At this point, I had still been keeping Zigana out of combat except where I felt totally safe to do so.  South of High Hedge, she did fight a wolf who was chasing a chicken.  But then she went back to her fire strategy against ghasts and hobgoblins.  She luckly saved against poison from an elite hobgoblin before he was toasted (though she did have plenty of healing potions and antidotes handy).  This got her to Level 6/6 and 34hp thanks to better roles (+2 then +4!).  Went back to High Hedge to help Melicamp, but it was in vain.  Zigana did have a relatively easy time with the enemy skeletons around HH, but I still had her avoid most monsters.

The plan then was to have her explore the coast and look for more caves!!!!  An ambush of half-ogres was handled with a sleep wand blast took all 3 of them down.  Traveling the coast should be safe enough at this point, as Zigana can summon skeletons, use Sanctuary and stealth, and play with fire magic.  If anything looks too dangerous or she runs out of support items or spells, she can run away.  Using that plan, she killed crawlers, ogres, sirines, and ghouls getting her to LeveL 6/7 with +1 hp.  She used Sanctuary to explore around the lighthouse, where she selectively fought worgs (used one fire blast and, then meleed them, which worked well even in studded leather ... only a couple small hits against her), sirines (with skeletons), crawlers (fire only), and lured flesh golems out to her skeletons while landing some hits herself.  Again, Zigana found herself enjoying cave crawling!  Against a wild dog ambush, she finally broke a flail (the off-hand non-magical one, but replaced it quickly).  Then, back at HH, she toughened up with a good book IDed by Thaly taking her form 35 up to 42hp!  She purchased some mirrored eye potions, sold her spoils, and decided to finally see what the deal was with the mines in Nashkel.

In the mines, she used her sleep wand against kobolds.  Easily had enought trap finding skill at this point (85).  Used stealth to start battles in her favor with melee.  Saw Mulahey before he saw her.  Led Xan out of his prison, then retured to take care of business.  A Command spell hit immediately, allowing Zigana to do 15 & 11 damage right away!  She literally broke her 2nd flail over his head!  Then he ran right into her skeleton friends, although he also got held at the same time.

After that it was just slugging it out with kobolds and skeletons who really did not hit her very much and/or focused on her skeletons instead of her.  Cha-ching!  Ring of Holiness IDed with inherent lore ability!  Hero status with the mayor brought on Level 7/7, 3 more hit points, and Level 4 spells (Free Action).   IDed, sold, and then ran into another bad looking dude.  Zigana summoned the rest of her skeletons to take on Nimbul, who got held too!  Nice boots!  She lured Neria (who had been waiting in the inn for quite a while) into the skeletons too.  A 3rd successful hold in a row!

Back to Nashkel.  Fought 2 dread wolves melee mostly and took 3 hits before finishing them.  I'm starting to get confident with her melee ability.  Met E again, stopped by home base to store some stuff, talked with Firebead about bandits, sold and rested at Feldpost's, then confronted Tranzig with skeletons.  He killed the last one just as Zigana landed the hit to make him want to run.  He spilled his beans so she let him go.  Silke fight was interesting: Command did not work, so Zigana ran.  Silke went invisible, so Zigana went stealth.  Used stealth, searched around, then summoned a skeleton out of sight to be her front line fighter.  Back in battle, Zigana avoided a lightning bolt, but then Silke ran into a house.  Zigana entered under stealth and landed a blow, then ran out.  Silke followed, hit the skeleton with Magic Missiles, but 11, 6, and 10 in melee ended the battle quickly.

Zigana then returned for a reward.  Karlat went down to a fourth successful hold in a row!  Talk to Perdue, commoners, Raleo Windspear.  Sold off some stuff, met Chole, Officer Vai, then headed to Ulcaster based on Releo's comment that adventure was to be had there.  Snuck past a bunch of hobgoblins.  Zigana had no serious trouble in melee vs. 6 zombies and 2 dread wolves (though she bypassed the 4 dire wolves).  She cleared all traps, used fire on group of 4 dread wolves, tried melee in the middle but took too many hits, so she hid, healed, and returned to finish the dread wolves with more fire, then picked them off one by one in melee when they were nearly dead.  She saw a vampiric wolf, so she buffed with Free Action and Shield.  Hit the vamp wolf and 2 more dread wolves with a few fire blasts (in between planned retreats), then finished again with melee vs. almost dead vamp. wolf.  Free action was inplace as a precaution, but she took no hits.  Found book, fought spiders, then used fire on kobolds and Icharyd.  When Icharyd landed 2 quick hits, Zigana ran and hid, drank a potion of absorbtion, landed one hit from shadows, then meleed it to death since Icharyd had a major penalty to hit with blunt weapons.  This got Zignana another Flail +1!

She entered the other half of the dungeon, scouted around, added free action again, then faced the slimes.  Retured to civilization at the FAI, considering going after the bandits, IDed and sold stuff.  Fought some more monsters and bandits on the road.  Got ogre belts.  Skipped a BIG group of bandits nearby.  Went to HH to sell and recharge magical items.  South of Beregost, she blasted some monsters and bandits with sleep wand support, then returned to Landrin's house to store goods.  Rest/dream/Perdue.  Next up: Bandit Camp.

Obviously, Zigana is progressing well with high levels early in the main storyline.  Also, I have not had any serious scares so far.  However, I expect that to change as the game progresses.  The bandit camp could be rough, and Cloakwood will be even harder, etc.  Right now, she has almost everything I could want for her:  16 con, high stealth & trap finding, two pips in dual wield getting her nice main hand thac0 and ok off hand thac0, pretty good hit points, and plenty of spell access.
