Grond0, you might want to get the spider's bane if you wanted to wear 2 fire resistance rings and still have free action.Grond0 said:
After a detour she got back again and ran through to the mines (with ring of free action there's no need to get Spiders Bane).

@Wise the mod works & the Teifling has ok stats but you don’t get to have a tail… so it’s back to my druid.

When we arrived at the dock a harper named Entillis attacked us but he made such a cute squirrel that we didn’t have the heart to finish him off… I forgot all about him & of course (much) later that lead to the unfortunate panties shedding incident.

Stay tuned for the continuing adventures of A’Lisia… this is mostly the highlights while waiting for Taerom to make our ankheg armour but we did enjoy an epic bar fight at the Helm & Cloak.

I just have time to grab a dropped potion of mind focusing handy, glugged one for this battle before Sarevok turns nasty. He hits me three times lowest roll was 12+6 even with my buffs so I need the golden girdle and cloak of Balduran and some bright ideas.
You can stack the ‘claw of the Kazgaroth’ with a ring of protection to squeeze out an extra point if you think it’s worth it.

His other starting buffs included oil of speed and stoneskin - I think the latter must be the result of the always pre-buffed component of SCS I added, though I hadn't expected it to affect thieves. He's now not an easy target at all for a solo fighter - I probably should just have played safe and used Algernon's Cloak.

Stoneskin!?! That must be a bug. He always has Blur and a "permantent" Haste (just like Sarevok) in my games.Grond0 wrote...

Another thing to do against him if you don't want to use the cloak would be to use a potion of Power/Heroism to increase your HP. 10% can sometimes be enough.

With that being his first action a kensai approaching invisible would have a very good chance of taking him out before he has a chance to use a potion of invisibility - 3 hits with strength up under kai would do it and that should be easily achievable in a round.

So far, so good.
After Gorion’s death, Gylumor traveled to Beregost across High Hedge. He completed several side quests, survived fights with Neira and Greywolf and currently explores wilderness in the south.
Although Gylumor’s hitpoints are below average, it is welcome change to play character which can actually enter melee.
Gylumor is currently level 4 fighter with 40HP.

That alone is a compelling argument for axe vs. darts. 5* in axe can be used for melee and ranged, while 5* in darts is a lot of points for a ranged only weapon, particularly one that doesn't have magical launchers (like bows) or much exotic ammo.Grond0 wrote...
Having said that I have the true grandmastery tweak installed...
But you made me curious, and assuming that you have equivalent enchantments on darts vs. axes, where the crossover line would be. (That assumption is clearly wrong since there is a +2 throwing axe in BG1, but no +2 darts, although darts have some side effect variants that are available). So, spreadsheets ahoy!
SURPRISE OF THE DAY: Looking at darts and axes in Near Infinity suprised me in that throwing axe damage is missile damage, but for mundate darts only, dart damage is slashing damage. I believe that is a bug, as magical dart damage is missile damage as you would expect from a shart pointy thing. My game configuration is bgt_weidu with the BG1NPC mod only.
I was also surprised to find (although now it makes sense) that lower STR characters get more benefit from axes over darts, as the weapon damage from a dart extra attack (assuming it hits) isn't enough to overcome the higher base damage of the axe.
The breakover point for ** in axe or dart seems to be at STR 18/91 : below that value, axes will do more damage on average, both for easy- and hard- to hit opponents.
With "true" grand mastery (***** per BG1 rules), the scale skews up a little: STR 18/00 is the break point. Below that, axes will do more damage on average.
Where darts "shine" is at the highest STR levels, where that STR bonus overshadows the base weapon damage considerably. At STR 25 ( +14 damage ), darts will average 21% more damage than axes without grand mastery (**), and darts will average 15% more damage than axes with grand mastery (*****).
That's aside from tactical considerations like spell interruption opportunities.
After running the numbers, for BG1 warriors axes are likely better than darts (for damage output). By the time you can get the STR manual, the +2 throwing axe should also be available... and it will skew the difference in favor of axes in terms of cost, convenience, and damage output.
The only reason to go darts with fighters are chance of spell interruption, weight, convenience, or secondary effects (stunning for example). Sounds like I made the wrong choice with my dwarf F/T.

If darts aren't supposed to have a STR bonus, then they are miserable weapons indeed, even with the extra attack.

First I would like to thank all here for sharing and 'running' these challenge threads.. I have been rogue reading
them for a litle period and it is hard not to feel that pull in you, wanting to join in, alas I could not stand it any longer hehe. Both impressive and more importantly entertaining participants.
I have most of my experience in BG2 but it has been years, yet I would like to give it a shot with my newly rolled Cleric/Mage which I hereby sign up for the challenge!
Starting in BG1 and hopefully making it all the way to ToB. I am gonna chicken on my first try and play the type of class I have the most familiarity with, a caster and avoid any difficulty enhancing mods like many of the sophisticated players here do, they will be saved for a second run, hopefully, if I make it through the first
Introducing: 'After a little bit of rolling I went with this roll and relocated a few of the stats :whistle:http://i462.photobucket.com/albums/qq348/Netfryzr/BG%20trio/Baldr000.png
Morti: the Cleric/Mage

I am running on easytutu with newest patch and a few mods I located after seeing other players here list them like the tutufix and stacking of certain items to help inventory management a little bit. I plan on going either solo or bringing Imoen for Role playing reasons and her thief skills... I simply do not have the metagame knowledge to remember all the traps so I feel she might be needed
Insane difficulty though.
Cheers guys and thank you for all the sharing, great reads, great players.

- it's a while since I killed Firebead and he was looking a bit smug, so he got the chop this time to get Adam up to level 2 before leaving Candlekeep.
- that meant that saving unwary travellers from Shoal got him to level 4. At this stage his 3 level up rolls had given him an extra 39 HPs (out of a possible maximum 42) and I was getting quite excited about his prospects.
- tasks around Beregost included the slime quest (though it appears that the slime infection is spreading this time).
- dealt with Tarnesh this time by recruiting some friends. They were all immediately slept, but while Tarnesh was busy with them he didn't notice the axe blades whirling through the air towards him.
Adam has just bought the shield amulet and necklace of missiles and arrived at the Nashkel mines. He's now at level 5 - unfortunately only got 6 HPs at last level up.

I believe only non-magical darts allow strength bonus (and do slashing damage), most fixpacks remove the strength bonus and change damage type to missile.After5CST wrote...

I'm inclined to believe it's a bug, much like the Eagle Bow allowing strength bonus. Maybe if there were a way to code darts to apply only a fraction of strength bonus (like half to 2/3rds) they would be useful without being overpowered.

So much for expectations! Livia's run came to an end facing Slythe. She could have used a potion of invisibility to get the drop on him or charmed a few things as a shield/distraction, but I let her wait to get hit - trusting in her fighter HPs to protect her. Regrettably I had forgotten that she had fighter HPs, but not a fighter helmet and Slythe one-shotted her with his first attack.
Sorry to hear that. However that's what I like about the game. You think that you have a great character and the unexpected happens.
My character Holy Avenger is looking great. He took on two wyvern solo and it was a walkover, but the confusion of the sirenes almost finished him. (Poison and charm no problem to a cavalier but then the unexpected happens)

Is this from a mod, and if so which?
Diary of Holy Avenger continued.
Day 109
On my way we helped a gnome by supplying his captors with a dietary substitute. Heading north I picked up Gavin and completed a task for the Morninglord, namely dealing with Lady Valeria, a woman who was a multiple murderer. We then went and finished killing of all the Basilisks in Mutamin’s garden. As soon as we had done that we helped some traders only to find that they were slave traders. We freed their slaves at which point Xan’s Moonblade acknowledged him and is now more powerful.
[I have now finished Gavin’s and Xan’s quests; so could drop them, but Holy Avenger is now so powerful that he was able to take on two wyverns single-handed. It will probably be more interesting therefore to keep them in the party. Trying to keep Xan alive and in the party could be a challenge as I have learned from previous games. I will now pick up Kivan as his interaction with Tazok is of interest, though I will probably pick up Branwen first for her interaction with Tranzig, dropping her off immediately afterwards.]
Day 116
We returned to Beregost where Branwen was pleased to find that I had killed Tranzig. ( I had forgotten that.) She left the party on amicable terms and will join with us again if required. Kivan joined up with us and he killed Tazok single handed though apparently he has been raised again. We have his gauntlets however which should prove useful. I have agreed to meet up with Kivan at the Friendly Arms when I next need him.
