The Wand of Polymorphing (turns them into a squirrel if they fail their save) is a reward for doing the Bogeyman quest… its part of the basic game. Note that turning people into squirrels DOES NOT count as a hostile act (safe to use on guards) or effect the loot in any way… they can still use wands and such but I won my last no-reload when I turned Sarevok into my pet (after Greater Malison) and he wandered into a cloud kill mist.

Source
Enter the house AR0162. (the house north of the helm & cloak inn) Talk to either one of the twin sisters Louise and Laerta. They fear the bogeyman. Gervisse will appear and blame a druid called Voltine for the boginess. Talk to Voltine who will blame Gervisse. Both your Journal and a Detect Evil spell will point to Gervisse as the villain. Kill Gervisse. Talk to Voltine. Then talk to Laerta.

Adam has kicked the bucket - pure carelessness the cause.  He completed the bandit camp and had done most of the reputation quests and was after the constitution tome.  He had the green amulet and that allowed the first set of sirenes to be killed without trouble.  The same would have been true of the second lot - if he had been using the amulet!

I must admt it. I've made that mistake too. Image IPB
It just goes to show that we're human and not the god that the game makes us out to be. Image IPB

 Alessandra: Undead Hunter

Ok everyone. Here she is. My first Paladin. And a character that I'm becoming increasingly intrigued with: Alessandra, Undead Hunter.
Image IPB

Character Description: Alessandra is a Paladin by trade, but she is not a force of righteousness and she has little interest in being a moral paragon. Instead, she is a child of Bhaal through and though: the taint dominates her personality, and while she may not be aware of it yet she can not escape it's influence.

Becoming a Paladin, and an Undead Hunter in particular is Alessandra's way of dealing with the taint. For as long as she can remember, she has found evil oddly seductive. Becoming a Paladin has given her a excuse to seek it out and explore it. As for being an Undead Hunter, that has given her an opportunity to channel her undeniable urge to destroy into an endeavor that isn't putitatively odious. If her fellow Paladins knew her and understood her, they would undoubtedly revoke her status and might even seek her death.  She has avoided detection by being tightlipped and solitary.

Alessandra interacts with other Paladin's as little as possible. She has, however, spent enough time observing them to form an opinion. She is not at all impressed. She thinks they are naive and hypocritical. Naive for thinking their ethics are anything other than self-deluded rationalization of their own killer instincts and hypocritical for judging others when they themselves are all to willing to mete out death to anyone who opposes them. She especially despises Inquisitors. As far as she can tell, they're all idiots.

Alessandra will be constantly in danger of falling throughout her adventure.

Personal Items: As many of you know, my characters typically get a personal item much like Bioware's NPCs. Alessandra has two.

Fast and Frightening

Bracers: Chant While Equipped, +1 Weapons Speed Factor Bonus

The Ethics of Ambiguity

Useable Item: Currently inactive, this tome is essentially a divine book of infinite spells. Alessandra will be able to turn the pages as she advances in levels and will then get access to a new spell randomly selected from the good and evil spheres. The spells will be balanced such that they are only marginally useful.

Mods: Tutu, Tutu Fixpack, NPC Banter, Ammo Belt and Potion Case in Candlekeep, Bag of Holding on Tranzig, SCS

Wish her luck!

Best,

A.

Btw. And to the others playing paladins Alessandra's views on paladins are not my own. Cheer to all the Pallies!

Sad to hear of Adam's fall, Grond0...

@BBMorti

Welcome and best of luck! Cleric/Mage (or Gnomish Cleric/Illusionist in fact) is my favorite char as well and he currently operates in ToB part of Trilogy no-reload. This is very capable multiclass, no doubts.
I was many years reader of no-reload challenges (starting at old forums) as well. But once I first enter challenge myself - I'm bogged down. There is no way back... be aware of that ;)

@Alesia

Chaotic Good Luck with Alessandra! I like such concept of paladinhood;)

Should be fun when she starts telling Keldorn how to handle his woman troublesImage IPB.

I've started another kensai.  If I don't succeed with this one, I'll try something else.

Sally is currently level 5, though she's been operating a bit differently from the earlier attempts.  Her aim is not to use any magic items, other than healing potions, until she's level 7, i.e. she's got just a touch of the wizard slayer about her.  This approach obviously makes her rather vulnerable - she's had one close shave so far, when I misjudged where Baruk's kobold commandos would spawn and she had to run with fire arrows buzzing round her head.
Image IPB
Image IPB

If she survives to level 7 she'll stop being restricted and look to complete the remainder of the game rapidly.

Her advice would be very concise. She'd tell him -exactly- where to stick his troubles...

If those two spent enough time together, it would definitely come to blows. Keldorn would be more likely to start it, but Alessandra wouldn't hesitate to finish.

I was actually thinking about writing a little mod for Alessandra involving Keldorn. I liked the idea of Alessandra inviting the Paladins of The Order to help her fight Bodhi and then horrifying them by becoming The Slayer in the middle of the battle without any warning. Later, The Order would conclude that Alessandra is too dangerous to be left alive and send an expedition led by Keldorn to destroy her.

Sounds interesting - maybe you could include Anomen in there as wellImage IPB.  He would presumably have a choice to make (guided by PC prompting).  Does he cleave to his lawful side and help out the paladins, or does his internal rage get the upper hand on the Way of the Slayer?

Thank you Grond0. Truth be told I am a bit nervous looking at my 8 hit points.. hopefully I will find it magical on the other side of my first meeting with some bow weilding goblings too. :P
Good luck with Sally, I hope she will avenge Adam.

Thanks to you, too, ussnorway. I tend to play highest difficulty by default in all my games it tends to give me more satisfaction when I accomplish successes and keeps me more on edge with playing my best.. it is also why I picked my own name for this Cleric/Mage, playing 'myself' will most definitely give me a more invested interest in staying alive! :D

I will heed your warning Serg Blackstrider! But if playing the challenge is just nearly as funny as reading you guys play it out then I am likely destined to be 'trapped' :P
Have you at any point played a sort of Cleric/Mage through the challenge, then? I should look it out for pointers.. Do we ever agree on the capabilities of this class m8, I am a huge magic fan in this game and the diversity of touching both fields of magic in one character is just amazing,.. in my humble opinion of course hehe.

Morti left candlekeep, I was a little surpriced when I found myself in need of choking a healing potion fending off the two assasins in the little city, I also memorised the familiar spell, a few sanctuaries and a command spell.
Fleed a battle in the forest and picked up Imoen.. I had not rested yet so no spells to cast but I figured with two ranged weapons and a bit of micro management things would be easy peazy.. well I had forgotten that tutu multiplies spawn points with an amount that is more than three atleast! So I found myself running south with a small swarm of gibberlings giving chase soon after. Moved a little to the east in the high hedge area and went north again.. no gibberlings. I somehow managed to meet three wolfes on the way to Gorions corpse so fled south, yet again, with those biting at my back. On the way south this time I was waylaid and had to drink another potion on imoen to get away alive.
Tough start, but I learned a few lessons at least. I rested and summoned my familiar and went north again, and when it cast blurr is did an formidable job of running around with, and tanking gibberlings while me and Imoen took them down from range. When I found a way to the corpse sadly a bug seemed to happen.

Bug: Imoen keeps initioating the conversation that seems to trigger at Gorions corpse -->
This screen was taken in the next area which I had a hard time reaching since I had to spam click Imoen to move so she would not instead initiate the same conversation again and again.http://i462.photobucket.com/albums/qq348/Netfryzr/BG%20trio/Baldr003x.png
I tried removing her from my group a few times and letting her rejoin but she would just start spam initiating that conversations as soon as she joined again.. did a save and rebooted the game, didn't help either.. so in desperation I told her to go to the FAI.
I just wanted to grab that 'ahem' secret ring and then be on my way there when I came across another spawn. Nearly had a heart attack when I saw them and quickly cast a sanctuary before they made me their supper.
I really need to get used to the 'new' spawns..  i'm so rusty :?

I interrupted the bounty hunter mages miror image (I remember that guy very well) with Imoens wand of magic misiles I borrowed and then slinged him while the familiar tanked him.
Hurried inside and located imoen in the hopes that the conversation bug would be nullified now with the area change and all.. but.
She still does it.. I am pretty sad about this, and nervous too since I simply feel too rusty to survive without a rogue to remove traps I don't know the location and the effects off by memory. Any suggestions? Is this a known bug? :?

I haven't come across this, but have you tried response 5 above? I think this was mod introduced to sort out speech problems - specifically where one character's lines got mixed up with another's. That's not the same as your problem of course, but it might be worth a go.

The other thing you could do would be to spawn a copy of Imoen with CLUA console or Shadowkeeper and see if that one would behave normally.

If you have no luck with her you could always look to recruit another thief of course.

Yes I did try all of the responses many times hehe. I guess another thief could be ok, if there are any nearby? Imoens dialogue is prefered though.. I wonder if getting her killed and resurrected could change anything? =P
Importing Imoen through other means wont mess with dialogues and what not? Since tutu runs on the BG2 engine would I not get the Imoen who is supposed to run around Amn or am I totally wrong here. hmm I don't know

Aye, as I mentioned earlier my current Trilogy no-reload attempt is with gnomish cleric/illusionist. He is in Marching Mountains right now.

I also memorised the familiar spell

Well, it definitely very usefull, especially early on but bear in mind some moment here - when you import your char from the final BG1(TuTu) save onto the SoA starting dungeon your Familiar will disappear whilst hit points bonus stay on. Surely you can correct that by ShadowKeeper and such but I personaly try to resist the temptation to *find* familiar till the beginning of SoA (just a note, nothing more :))

Well, they also have very bad habbit to *multiply* themselfs. I remember how with my current cleric/illusionist I *fly* though that area touching nothing to FAI to pick Jaheira and Khalid only to face double packs of wolfs, worgs, gibberlings and xvarts upon return to clear it.

Some mods change the position of thieves - for instance my Alora is found in Gullykin rather than BG.  If you haven't changed any locations then Montaron is close by where Imoen first met you while Safana is also pretty easy to get to for low level characters.  You can see NPC locations and other information at http://playithardcor...C_Rundown#Imoen

I wonder if getting her killed and resurrected could change anything?

Sounds worth trying.

You would need to ensure that you spawn the right version.  In mine there are 26 of them, but that's in a BGT game - should be much less in Tutu as you only have the resources for BG1 and not BG2.  I don't think it would matter if you spawned the wrong level, e.g. level 2 Imoen rather than level 1.

Sally has survived her larval stage and will shortly be spreading her wings.
Image IPB

She cleared most things prior to the mines (other than those with special attacks or spells in areas where she couldn't dodge) in order to get the 64k XP needed for level 7.  There were really only 2 worrying moments during this stage:

- first when Tarnesh disappeared after Sally initially spoke to him.  A mage with sleep wandering around the Friendly Arm away from hiding places would not be pleasant.  However, I eventually wondered whether he had nipped in the other door to the temple and hid behind the pillars - and there he was.  A single axe went through his mirror images and erased that concern.

- there was a genuine close shave with Billy.  He and Dribben are quick on the draw, so I didn't really fancy engaging in long range missile duels with them.  Instead I got Sally to run away until Dribben loosed a shot and then turned sharply to engage him in melee - this worked very well as he didn't get another shot off and quickly died.  However, trying the same thing with Billy he got not one shot off, but two in a very short space - he must definitely have grand mastery.  Both hit and one was a critical - that meant that even after taking a potion Sally would probably have been vulnerable to another critical.  Fortunately Billy tried to get some more room for shooting rather than continuing to fire at melee range - he didn't succeed.

Greetings and Salutations my dear friends!

As I have posted in the other section of the forum(BG2), Aximand the mad and his friend Yarath, have decided to go through the entire story together!

I grew up with Baldurs Gate 1, it being the first game I ever played on a computer. The game itself, and it's lovely cd-package with its unforgettable folds, has never been completed by me. I never did manage to find out what went on inside Baldurs Gate, or perhaps I never really wanted it to end. Now then, I think it's about time I did.

So, let me present to you the characters then!

Aximand, a Lawful Evil Human Fighter. The way he interacts with the world is usually quite strange for an evil character, but Aximand believes that sometimes the greater good must be done, so that his evil actions are perhaps not overshadowed - or perhaps just because he enjoys making friends before he starts slitting throats. His keen intelligence radiates through his green and blue eyes.

Image IPB

Yarath, the vigilant friend and ally of Aximand. The two grew up together, and if Aximand decides to go on a journey, then Yarath will come as well.

Image IPB

This time around though, the two companions have befriended an elven wizard, and her bodyguard. Promises of gold and adventure was enough for both Aximand and Yarath - and now that they had been told to prepare for a journey - why not bring them along. What the elven Wizard's real plans may be though, only she knows.

Raqulis Septera, the Wild Mage.
Image IPB

Eamon, the Half-Orc bodyguard, and long time Mercenary.
Image IPB

So then, we shall see how things fare for this group! They will only bring other NPC's for their quests , if Aximand wills it. Other than that, these will be the only main characters in our troupe.

And here they are in all their glory - ready to begin one long, and perhaps quite difficult journey.

Image IPB

I have BG+TOTSC as well as BG2+ToB installed, playing with Tutu and the Beregost fix. No other mods, but if there are any I should use - please post here and link them if possible.

I am playing on core rules, yet I have no idea how Aximand managed to pull of 24 hit points at level 1. Perhaps he truly is blessed.

Onwards then, to fame and fortune!

If you like NPC interactions then I would suggest BG1 NPC project, though that is on the Gibberlings 3 website which is down at the moment.  Other than that I'd just start playing.  There are hundreds of mods out there, but the vanilla game is complete in itself and it's probably better to find out what you like and dislike about that before considering changes.

Sally became my second casualty of the day - obviously been playing too much! That was a combination of me losing focus and cheese from the computer. After completing the mines and dealing with Tranzig Sally was ambushed by Molkar and crew at Firewine Bridge. She could easily have avoided the encounter, but chose to accept it. In fact she did more than enough to have won it as both Molkar and Halacan were charmed with Algernon's Cloak at different stages, but their scripts shrugged off the charm within a round. Molkar was using oil of speed and hence had a big movement advantage, but he still chased Sally round half the map without landing a blow. However, coming back again he finally got a critical in. I considered letting Sally flee or using a potion of invisibility, but thought she would get in her stride again - it was not to be as Molkar landed the killing blow with his second critical of the round.

As I posted in BG2 section of the challenge you made the right decision. And I bet you'll not be disappointed. Wild Mage could be tricky in no-reload, especially early on, but extremely fun no doubts.

Good luck with them! :)

Do not underestimate the power of the sleep, shield, remove fear, and command spells at low levels.

I'm a ways from even trying the game on stock Insane level (just use Core), but best of luck to you!

C/Ms indeed have a huge spell book (er, assuming your Wisdom is high). My cleric mage would usually have a ton of summons and as enemies would play with my summons, my C/M would would do things like horror/hold person/silence then sling them all to death. This was in a group though, not sure about solo C/M which might have be quite different, especially at the lower levels. A vanilla C/M could do entange level 1, that might help in the early going. May have to try a solo C/M one day...

@Grond0: Hey sorry to hear Molkar got ya (he's gotten you several times hasn't he?). Your character was so promising too, bummer.

Well then friends, time for an update on Aximand's travels!

After fighting their way through endless hordes of gibbering Gibberlings and what not, the party made it to the Friendly Arm in. All was well, and there where lots of quests to be found for a young group of would-be adventurers. Unfortunatley, not everyone greeted the group perhaps as they had hopped, and before long - they found themselves in battle with one particularly strong Mage.

Raqulis attempted to disable the Mage's spells with her own, while Aximand used his limted(yet surprisingly potent) knowledge of the magic arts; and began casting his horror spell. Yarath fired his bow while Eamon threw himself at the Mage - Warhammer and shield lifted high an mighty. What happened next though, was rather unfortunate.

As Aximand's spell landed, so did the evil Mage's. He had also vowen the Horror spell, and now the entire party found that their spines where not present.

(This seems to happen a lot to Aximand's party, doesn't it?)
Image IPB

While feared himself, the Mage managed to take down Raqulis with his Magic missiles, before Eamon enraged(possibly from seeing his master die?) - and smashed the Mage's head in with his Warhammer. A visit to the cleric and a few quests later, the party decided to head t'wards Nashkel. Many people spoke of the place, so why not go there. First, they would kill an Ogre for his belts though - and drop by Beregost to see if there was more quests to be done.

On the way there though, Raqulis got quite impatient and headed a bit too far in the front of the group, ending up pincushion for a group of Kobolds.

Image IPB

Duely noted, the party decided to remember how little damage Raqulis can take - and particularly Eamon scribbled this down in his own journal.

Upon reaching Beregost, the group of Adventurers encountered an angry man in a Tavern, but was quickly put down by Eamon's Warhammer. They then proceeded to hire themselves out as bodyguards to a local Bard and his Master, the lady Silke.

Aximand saw through her charade - and soon found themselves in battle against yet another Mage! Having learned from the previous encounter, the party scattered and positioned themselves better. Unfortunatley, Yarath got Silke's attention - and ended up fiercly shocked by her Lightning.

Image IPB

After she slew Aximand's bestest of friends, she fled inside a nearby Tavern. Inside, another Assassin emerged and the party soon found themselves fighting two opponents!

For some reason though, Silke decided that SHE would be the one to kill us, and not some would-be assassin, and went on to fight against all of us. That was a very bad decision of her, and the party ended up victorius.

Image IPB

After the battle, Aximand reached level 2! I must say, he does seem quite potent now - as he has 37 hp(I do not move the slider for HP rolls or spells, so I must say he's been quite lucky so far!).
Now Yarath has been revived, and the party will search the town for more quests and challenges. Who knows what they will find.

Yeah those ambush parties are not too hard if you prepare, but can be a problem if you fight them right away.  The sensible thing to do therefore is run away and come back later - but nobody would accuse me of being sensibleImage IPB.

Well then, another update is in order!

I do appologize if I do update quite frequently, but I find it nice to watch my character's progress, even though it might not be fast - and placing it in this fine site as both a journal to me and to you whom find the journey interesting.

Well then, how have the four brave adventurers fared thus far then?

After leaving Beregost, the party brought with them the Figher Kagain, hoping to aid him with his task. The would be adventurers had done some Mercenary work before - so why not again? The five then proceeded to Nashkel.

Upon reaching Nashkel, the group managed to despose of yet another assassin quite easily. Aximand is proving to be quite the formidable archer, as well as Swordsman with his new Longsword +1. The vile Cleric did manage to get her Hold Spell off, but Aximand had positioned himself rather well in this encounter - and thus was free to pummel her with arrows.

Image IPB

They picked up what quests they found, and headed onwards to the Carnival, where they fought yet another Mage. This one proved potent as well, and ended Kagain's journey for a little while.

Image IPB

The party was quick to returning the favor though, and the Mage fell and ended up giving what items he had to Raqulis. Wonderful!

Aximand led his party around Nashkel for a while, killing Ogres, Bandits and Winter Wolves. Bounties galore, and they ended up earning no less than 3000 gold for their troubles.
They also met the fastest Dart thrower in the west, who turned out to be the slowest mind in the west as well - seeing as he quickly swapped to his spear once Eamon was upon him.

Furthermore, they met a crew of soldiers in the same area - and seeing as Aximand wasn't in the mode to be pushed around - the party made quick work of them as well.

I must say, Aximand's Horror spell surely did shine in that fight(even though it ended up drawing some unwanted attention from a group of skelingtons in the area).

Image IPB

So, Aximand is now a level 3 formidable fighter. This is his current gear. The Shield he carries, is for when the group demands for another Tank - allthough he does enjoy wielding his bow much more. After Kagain's trail went cold, the party left im in Nashkel, seeing as he plays no vital part in this journey.

Image IPB

Well then, onwards again - to fame and glory!

Good luck everyone, some great portraits. Final update for Mervus, LG human male Cavalier.

I lure two doom guards, a helmed horror and invisible stalker outside. My buffs are still active str 23, dex 22 and they are soon killed. I glug a blue healing potion then head inside to deal with two more stalkers. Degrodel points me to Vail, and he to Quenash.

I forgo the claw of Kazgaroth need the ring slot for other purposes and fill my inventory, leaving room for the golden girdle. I get confused fighting Kirian and her men but with DUHM and PfE I soon overpower them and head back to the thieves maze.

Two doom guards are DUHM'd, a potion of absorbtion, then PfE and DUHM for a pair of skeleton warriors. A series of traps are next, then I pass Winski and buff before facing a final group of Iron Throne mercenaries. It's not enough and I have to run after killing Haseo. Gorf follows and although I am almost dead I use my reach and weapon speed to kill him with three hit and run attacks.

I retreat to rest before facing the rest should have buffed more. Wudei, Carston and Rahvin are together so I kill them in that order then look for Shaldrissa. She's gone, but Tamoko is nearby. After killing her I take her armour and rest before heading into the temple to buff.

Potions of mind focusing, fire resistance, storm giant strength, absorbtion, heroism, magic protection, invulnerability and mirrored eyes are followed with PfE, DUHM and a potion of magic shielding.

I toss an oil of burning and lay into Sarevok.

Moments later Sarevok shakes himself free but I've been busy four hits to his one.

He hits me a second time so I glug a potion of regeneration and hit him again.

If I can just hit him one more time.

Lucky he was held really otherwise I'd have been running and must have been quite quick as only protection from petrification potion had worn off . I had two potions of invisibility lined up if I needed them, and in hindsight I should have glugged the regeneration as soon as I was hit.
