Ciel is under way.  Progress to date:
- Went straight for Shoal to get to level 3.
- Talking to Marl got him to level 4.
- Algernon gave up his cloak, Karlat's obstruction was removed and Perdue's sword returned.
- Slime was breaking out all over.
- Firebead got some desired reading, Mirianne some welcome news and Joia a desired heirloom.
- Tarnesh found the guards even keener than usual to confront him.
- Landrin's house was ready for occupation again.
- Some sense was kicked into Tenya (level 5).
- Dushai's servant rebelled against him.
- An ambush resulted in the first attack on Ciel.
- Melicamp was successfully revived.
- Teyngan helped dispatch his former friends.
- I thought Teyngan would be killed by the gnolls, but he finished the lot off before Drizzt got there and Ciel had to sling him to death.
- Some detailed work with stealth to pick off xvarts one by one and save a cow.
- Very careless to allow a hobgoblin to inflict Ciel's first damage (other enemies were already in sight, so autopause didn't kick in and I was slow reacting).
- Bentan was converted to the true faith, but unfortunately died in battle with kobolds (leaving a scroll behind).  Strangely Meilum came to a similar sticky end, donating his bracers to a good cause,
- Dealt with some worgs to put Ardrouine's mind at rest.
- Reported some good news to Bjornin.
- Executed a tree preservation order on behalf of a nymph.
- Saw Albert and Rufie back to their proper home (level 6).
- Sendai marshalled some troops against her former friends.
- Greywolf was much too slow to cause Ciel any problems.

Most of Ciel's work so far has been with his sling; he attacks from stealth against archers to prevent them responding.  Against spell users he would either find somewhere to run in and out of or use Algernon's cloak to give them an alternative target.  It was disappointing to get damaged so early - was looking to get at least as far as Mulahey - but will try and keep concentrating to get Ciel through to the end.

It's been a while since I've had a go at this so time for another crack! I'm playing with a default EasyTutu installation.

Name: Tezrian
Race/class: Elf/Ranger (Stalker)
STR: 18/53
DEX: 19
CON: 17
INT: 10
WIS: 15
CHR: 14
Favoured Enemy: Spiders
Proficiencies: 2-weapon (**); Longsword (**), Longbow (**)
Stealth: 67

I was tempted to drop CHA a bit and increase WIS but from a RP point of view I like to have the protagonist leading so need a respectable score there. And with the Tome plus the cloak that gives me 17 later in the game which isn't bad. Of course Elf Rangers get crazy good rolls so I got the above stats after about 1 minute of rolling :)

While alignment is NG out of necessity (got to love the querks of 2E :) ) I'm going to play this character as a ruthless defender of nature who is consumed with the desire to hunt and kill those associated with the death of Gorion. The hunted will hopefully become the hunter in time - hence the stalker kit seeming most appropriate :)

Starting out:-

Imoen tagged along and was accepted into the party. It was very hard to leave my good friends Xzar and Montaron behind on this run through .. Instead they were duly looted. I did feel from an RP point of view there was a good case for cutting down those evil-doers (a good ranger would likely suspect they were part of the evil armoured figures band - and they don't exactly put themselves in a good light :D) but couldn't bring myself to do it and left them by the roadside :)

Heading south we met the vengence-driven ranger Kivan whose disposition matched Tezrian's own desire for revenge only too well and who was welcomed to the hunting party.

Beregost

Heading briefly into 'civilisation' and, after an altercation in Feldeposts Inn, we were hired under false pretences to protect a witch. Realising we had seen through her charade she foolishly turned on us.. her magical abilities proved less quick than our arrows :)

The locals had also complained about scuttling sounds coming from a house to the south and approached us, who had ventured in from the wilds, to investigate. Their fears proved to be well founded as some hideously unnatural spiders had taken root. Drawing them out of the house we shot them down before they could cause any harm.

North of Beregost

Leaving Beregost in the dead of night we ventured north hoping our meagre supply of arrows would last. While Imoen looking longingly at the Inn we felt it better to move quickly to meet these friends of Gorion. As that note had said ... a moving target has a better chance.. and at this time we are still the hunted.

An encounter with a large group of kobolds armed with bows proved costly and both rangers suffered injury. However it did replenish our stock of arrows :) This allowed us to defeat several groups of screeching creatures and some monstrous wolves. The death of the preditors saddened me .. something has clearly disturbed the natural order to drive even such beasts as these to attack openly in the daylight. This was affirmed by a man of the wilds we met further north who warned of wildlife driven to attack men. At least any starving creatures we put down will help relieve the demands on the food chain.. A ring was also spotted lodged in a rock which I claimed. While not one for ostentation it will be good to have a reminder of this moment and how much will need to be done to restore the natural order.

Scouting eastward we encountered an Ogre who immediately spotted the party (I blame Imoen .. purple is not a good colour for disguise in woodland!) and charged towards us. Luckily our bows dealt with the beast before it drew close enough to use it's great strength. One of it's belts looked handy and, after some adaption, was claimed by Tezrian.

Friendly Arm Inn

Following the advise of Gorion we moved north to the fortified outpost known as the Friendly Arm Inn. After scouting the area we made ourselves known to the guards and promised to adhere to 'common sense' within the walls in return for admission.

Heading towards the main structure we met a Mage who greeted us warmly... Something about him seemed wrong so I responded coolly to his words .. and saw his smile turn to anger. Raising his hands to use his magic against us was his last mistake as an arrow took him in the throat before he could do any harm. The guards had also witnessed the attack and started to move in to support us so I nodded thanks and investigated the body of the mage. Clearly our enemies are expanding their hunt for us if this bounty notice is anything to go by.. We hoped the connection between us and the friends of Gorion had not been discovered before our arrival and moved quickly into the Inn.

To our relief as we approached the bar we were approached by a couple who quickly proved themselves to be the friends Gorion had spoken of and so Khalid and Jaheira joined the group. While I had my doubts that the elf had enough steel in him for the kind of hunt I would be leading I knew Jaheira would show no mercy to our foes.

The party was nearly complete.

Hunting some hobgoblins who had foolishly ranged close to the Inn proved useful in bonding the group together in battle with all performing well. And becoming better known to the people here may be useful in misdirecting those hunting the party as we quickly head south...

Notes: While I know not everyone rates Khalid, in Tutu he dual-wields barstard swords and so is the quickest to see magical weapons (i.e. steal BS +1 in the smithy in Beregost and buy another BS+1 from Feldepost :) ). I also sold the Ring of Wizardry to get a headstart in equipment. While it is a great item, with my playstyle the mage is very much support and so only uses spells for NPC Adventuring party encounters and dire situations - so the default number of spells is fine.

I've also decided to recruit Xan as the final party member to give me an all elf/half elf party excepting Imoen so the plan is to head south to do the Mines earlier than I do normally to get him before we level up too much. I managed to get J & K while they were still Lvl 1 with my Rangers & Imoen now being Lvl 2 after completing the spider house quest and killing the hobgoblin for the ring.

I can't really understand the ranger stealth progression. I've got an additional 5 pts at level 2 so am now at 72 - so I guess if I'm going up at least 5 pts a level I'll reach a decent skill amount.

Best of luck Melchom.  Stalkers get a big bonus to starting stealth, so in the early game they are the stealthiest PC you can get.  Even at 1st level they have a decent chance of hiding as long as you avoid daylight.

Thanks Grond0 :)

It is a nice score - just couldn't reconcile how it was made up using the charts in the BG2 book.

Base: 10 + 15 = 25
Stalker Bonus: 20 = 45
Elf Bonus: 5 + 10 = 60
Dex Bonus: 7 ??? = 67

I guess Rangers don't get the same Dex bonus as rogues to their stealth :) But yes he's already proving to be pretty good at scouting even at level 1-2. Once I get the boots of stealth it'll be fairly reliable :)

Update for Ciel.  He will shortly be entering the end game.  Progress to date as follows:
- Returned Samuel to the temple - and identified a few items picked up on hit travels while there.
- Recovered the body of a farmer's son.  Tried out stunning successfully on one ankheg, but left the rest alone.
- Picked up a much-needed tome of charisma.
- Charleston Nib and the farmer suffering from zombies were not impressed by Ciel's charisma and offered no rewards.
- Belatedly visited Nashkel for the first time and talked to Noober, saved a boy from his pet wyvern, got a good word from Oublek (and gave him an emerald back), surprisingly was allowed to do some babysitting, stunned Neira.
- Returned Brage to do penance at the temple.
- Drienne only liked Ciel enough to give him gold rather than reputation, so he was stuck on 19.  Wanted 20 before going to get the green amulet, so headed for the mine.  However, first stopped off at the carnival; disposed of Oopah, Vitiare and Zordral and bought amulet of shielding and necklace of missiles.
- In the mines 3 blasts from the necklace opened up Mulahey
remove roadblock
ensure no disturbance from kobolds outside Mulahey's cave
decimate Mulahey's support squad
stun lasted just long enough to finish Mulahey off.
- Reported to the mayor and then did shopping at Ulgoth's Beard.
- Dealt with Tranzig.
- At the bandit camp Ciel was fortunate to successfully hide on first entering the tent.  Here's a demonstration of why he was fortunate (though he had a potion of invisibility available if necessary).  After opening the chest he got back out of sight range of Raemon before being spotted.  Molkar was waiting outside to try an ambush, but Ciel was away before he could intervene.
- Ambled through the Cloakwood - with ring of free action there's no danger there.
- Drasus was charmed and killed by guards before being stripped of his boots.
- Stealthed down through the mine.  The only potential danger there is if stealth breaks while waiting to discover the secret door near the ghast.  To avoid that Ciel attracted the ghasts and then re-stealthed to go past them.  Just for a change killed Daveorn by charming him rather than use scroll magic protection.  Ciel's fists are not yet up to dealing with mustard jellies, so he resorted to a melee weapon for the first time this run.
- In Baldur's gate picked up the dexterity tome and then went to Ramazith's tower.  Stealthed up, but killed the kobolds to provide a safe base to attack Ramazith.  Unfortunately after going up and down the stairs found Ramazith had spawned another copy!  To be safe Ciel used a scroll of magic protection, but only bothered killing one of them - that gave him level 7.
- Popped down to High Hedge to get the Horn and Claw of Kazgoroth while reputation was still at 20.
- Stealthed through Iron Throne and got sent to Candlekeep.

The dex bonus at 19 is 15.  However, the elf bonuses you've listed are the separate bonuses for HiS and MS - these are averaged to get the bonus to ranger stealth.

Good luck with your Stalker, Melchom.
Grond0, you are progressing with amazing speed. Good luck in Candlekeep and beyond.

Brief update on human Cleric Valhyron:
After defeating Greywolf near Nashkel mines and putting Revenant to rest, Valhyron advanced to level 5. Newly obtained necromantic power to animate dead helped him to defeat Zordral, Neira was successfully Commanded and Held.
Image IPB

Valhyron killed half-Ogres who injured paladin Bjornin, defeated bandits led by Teyngan, tried to help Melicamp (but transformation was not successful), exterminated wolves near Beregost Temple and then traveled west to hunt Sirines.
After successful Sirine hunt, Valhyron traveled west. He completed few quests available around Firewine Bridge and killed Meilum.
Valhyron advanced to level 7 as Cleric with 43 hp.He is now ready to start pursuing his Mage career.

Final update for Ciel.

At the palace she initially dragged one doppleganger upstairs.  She tested out darts of stunning on it as others have found this a useful strategy.  She did eventually succeed with a stun, but it took over 30 darts, so I think it would have been quicker to go with stealth attacks.

On going back downstairs this time she dragged 3 of them up.  Unfortunately the game did not pause on arrival and one of the dopplegangers got an attack in.  Ciel was confused and then beaten up in no time.

Writing this it occurs to me I said earlier Ciel was not supposed to be taking risks - oh well, such is life.

Condolences, Grond0 -- it seems to me, as far as your BG 1 runs go, your arch nemisis enemies appear to be the the ones at the duchal palace, even more so tha Sarevok...they've stopped a lot of your runs...

That is true - I think the dopplegangers are harder.  There are several reasons for that:
- a larger number of enemies, all hasted, make it harder to avoid them.
- the need to protect the dukes as well as yourself.
- the inability to use area damage in the main hall.
- and of course that confusion on touch ability is a real killer unless you use potion of clarity.

Normally, though occasionally I do play a character only designed for BG1.  BG2 is a bit different for me though.  I know BG1 well and find that pretty easy to complete, which is why I normally introduce additional restrictions on play.  BG2, however, I have never completed and I'm something of an expert there at finding silly ways to dieImage IPB.

Condolences Grond0, very sad to hear that Ciel died. I wish you much more luck in your next run!
I am yet again joining the challenge, hopefully this time the party can make it past the first chapters in Amn!
Allow me to introduce: Inarius' twin brother: Itharius the Conjurer!

Much like his brother, Itharius has two followers:

Torgaddon the Inquisitor, proud Paladin and a follower of Torm, just like his hero Keldorn.

Quintos the Fighter/Thief(probably related to Desh in some way!), a friendly and strong man - favoring the Short Bow and Axe.

Before heading to the Nashkel Mines, the party fought many a monster, and after gaining enough experience and gear - they decided to brave the mines. Mulahey was found deep within, and the three companions dealt with him swiftly.

They then dealt with Tranzig in Beregost, before heading to the Bandit Camp. They where ambushed twice on their way to High Hedge, but easily disposed of their assassins. More loot was theirs!

The leaders of the Bandit Camp quickly fell - and the fight was quite similar to Inarius' previous fight in a similar location.

Then braving the Cloakwood forest, the party dealt with Drasus' party without much hassle.

Itharius proved to be the better Mage over Davaeorn, and the party prevailed yet again!

Having entered Baldurs Gate, and dealt with many a quest and assignement - the party found themselves in quite the bar brawl! Luckily Skull Traps proved to be quite useful in this battle!

Summoning some monsters, and quickly dealing with the Iron Throne Mages and Cleric, the party prevailed yet again against Sarevok's vile scheme!

The first real challenge(and very very close death) to the party, was when a group of Ogre Mage assassins assaulted them outside the walls of Candlekeep. Due to some very poor positioning and use of potions, Torgaddon fell for the first time, and Itharius managed to use a Scroll of Protection from Fire to end an Aganazzer's Scorcher that would have killed him had it ticked once more.

They then dealt with the Ogres, and got Torgaddon back on his feet.

Itharius and his faithful companions returned to Baldurs Gate quickly to reclaim their good names, dealing with Cythandria, two insane assassins and a horde of Doppelgangers in the Duchal Palace. The three now quite capable adventurers had no trouble in doing so, except the fact that one of the two Dukes died in the battle.

Chasing after Sarevok, the party found him beyond a dreadful maze, and fought in a glorious battle to take him down once and for all. Itharius proved the better of the two Bhaalspawn brothers, destroying Sarevok with his Magic Missiles - after lowering his resistances with Greater Malison. All three companions made it through the fight alive!

Itharius, Torgaddon & Quintos will be moving on to Amn, and hopefully be able to avenge Itharius' twin brother and companions!

See you in Amn!

(I have been quite busy playing my way through Baldurs Gate 1 after Inarius and his party died in Amn. I really want to explore Baldurs Gate 2 and get the Mage Stronghold, as I am facinated with Mages - plus that I REALLY want to give more of my time to Baldurs Gate 2!)

Sorry to hear about Ciel Grond0. That fight can be a tricky one.

Grond0 wrote...

As you know, I tend to use Darts of Stunning a lot. Nonethless, the only character I used them with in that fight was Alora. That was basically done due to the awkwardness of Backstabbing and her low base APR. The Dopes Save v. Spells at 6 in my install. Consequently (with the MI previously dispelled) and under Haste with the THAC0 to hit, she should have been able to take out ~one per round on average with the Darts. For her, melee would have been slightly less efficient on average due to her base APR of 1 (+1 With Haste) and middling damage. The Dopes have 58 Hitpoints.

Of course, the Dart approach would have more variance then the Melee approach and that variance could very well overwhelm the average advantage. Given the setup and spatial arrangement in that particular fight (the Flaming Fist and Belt were in excellent positions to finish off Stunned Dopes), it worked out quite nicely for her though.

For most, it would likely make sense to skip the Darts. But with a low APR character and the right spatial arrangement, it strikes me as something worth considering.

Best,

A.

Btw. I agree that the Duchal Palace fight is dicier than Sarevok in SCS with the Improved Dopplegangers installed. I personally find Sarevok virtually risk free and BG1 as a whole very low risk. Nonetheless, the Duchal Palace Fight almost always gives me pause. If I were to guess-timate how the risk is partioned in BG1 for my characters it would be 85% Duchal, 14% Slythe and 1% the rest (Sarevok included). Those proportions would differ significantly if I was willing to use the door trick, but I suspect the Duchal Palace fight would still end up on top.

Although I absolutely hate the Duchal Palace battle, vast majority of my characters die either at Werewolf Island or in Durlag's tower. But I play vanilla, SCS significantly change things.

Update on Valhyron, human cleric dualed at level 7 to mage.
At first mage level, Valhyron learned many spells from scrolls he amassed during his travels as priest; other spells were purchased from Thalantyr.
He gained easy XP by conversing with Noober, returning emeralds to Oublek and Joseph’s ring to his wife.
Near Wyrm Crossing, he helped Tenya against fishermen and advanced to mage level 2.
Next, Valhyron traveled to Durlag’s tower. He passed invisible two Battle Horrors and entered the tower. Battling Ghasts yielded him level 3; helping Kirinhale and killing Riggilo level 4. South of Durlag’s tower, Valhyron killed three Ghasts guarding the tomb with Wand of monster summoning. He used Wand of lightning and protection from electricity.
Image IPB

Recent questing in Cloudpeak areas yielded him enough XP for level 5.
Life of low level mage is hard, but so far so good.

Condolences Grond0, congratulations Easymask, welcome Melchom, good luck when you get to the expansion Vaclavc.

Demivel, NG male elf F/M/T & pseudo dragon familiar.

Cloakwood

A potion of absorbtion makes light work of Seniyad. On to a dangerous area of Cloakwood next. I cannot detect a first trap but manage to trigger it from the shadows without two spiders attacking.

I sneak past them, and manage to detect a second trap outside their vision. I sneak up and disable it under the view of two ettercaps, and nip back between enemies to hide again. I run through five ettercaps and spring another trap but evade it.

Two wyverns and three spiders ambush me but I'm a quick runner. I reach the third area of Cloakwood and immediately depart. I outrun three more spiders to reach the fourth area and sneak past a hamadryad, spiders, wolves and some guards.

Two guards fall to backstabs and a blindness. On to the mercenaries. I cast web and stinking cloud, then blind and shoot Drasus. Then I sneak in to retrieve his boots and backstab Rezdan.

Genthore manages one hit between my group of backstabs and Kysus requires a single blow.

Into Cloakwood mine. I sneak past some guards, kill two ghasts but get hit and diseased. A close escape.

After freeing the slaves and Yeslick I sneak towards Davaeorn. His final guard manages to hit me once so after removing four traps I head upstairs and shadownap.

I'm going for backstabs. He fails to dire charm me, another near miss, then decides to try melee.

Good guess.

Hmm I'm wondering if I made a mistake.. I've been playing under the assumption that if your main character dies then it's curtains - but if one of the party dies they can be resurrected at a temple if they haven't been perma-killed (i.e. no longer on your party side bar). Is that correct or it is nil-resurrection on party members as well ?

Grond0, my condolences. You make the game very challenging for yourself and all your runs are always very interesting. What will be next? :)

Picking up an earlier challenge I thought I'd have a go at an insane solo mage restricted to level 1 (trying to minimise XP).  The character has been created as a wild mage just in case she somehow gets to BG2, but will only learn 1 spell per day (and will very rarely cast that anyway).

To have the best chance I think that a level 1 character needs access to invisibility (to avoid ambushes) so the alignment has been chosen to get the appropriate familiar.

Your first assumption is correct.  No problem in raising dead NPCs still in your party (so long as you have the money to pay the temple).

I have to admit, the Fairy Dragon seems to be one of the most useful familiars. It can send the whole party invisible, AND it get Mirror Image to tank with (dodgy, I lost my familiar twice last time, but sooo useful).

I agree it's handy, but so is the quasit in a normal game - with regeneration the familiar can kill all the kobolds in the Nashkel mines virtually risk free. Also 100% elemental resistance is handy when you want to target fireballs on it!

Loci is underway in her trail of tears.  Progress so far:
- Went to High Hedge and then Beregost to avoid any danger of archer ambushes.  In Beregost used charm person on Algernon to get him downstairs where he failed to survive an argument with Marl.  Marl himself was then charmed with the cloak and stuck in a house.
- Loci retraced her steps to charm Xzar and Montaron - both quickly died in combat with a wolf and gibberling and left her their potions.
- Found some more potions in a cave on the way south.
- In Nashkel found a nice suit of armour to sell.  A couple of charmed soldiers then got Neira into position for the rest of the(non-charmed) soldiers to finish off.
- At the carnival Oopah killed Vitiare and Zordral while hostile and then became friendly and opened a few chests for Loci.
- With money now available Loci bought an amulet of shielding and a few potions.

Next up will be the first serious challenge in the kobold mine.

Makes sense. Those areas are zero risk for my characters for one simple reason: they don't go. :P

It's a shame since they are interesting. But from an RP perspective, it just never seems to make sense. Additionally, I always find myself eager to move on. I've tried to make myself do them after Sarevok a few times, but that hasn't worked- I just end up exporting and going to Amn. I have the same problem with Watcher's Keep.
I suppose I'll just have to play vicariously through your characters.:)

But I play vanilla, SCS significantly change things.

Yeah. Staying alive isn't the problem: it's keeping the Dukes alive. It can get crazy in there...

Best,

A.

Diary of Æthelflæd continued.
Day 137
The upper reaches of the mine were not too difficult due to judicious use of web. However when we reached Davaeorn things became difficult. We summoned some monsters who did not survive at all well and were then attacked by battle horrors. We were getting the better of them when Davaeorn arrived on the scene and cast a sequencer. We tried to escape upstairs but Yeslick and Xan were both killed. We were followed by the battle horrors which we killed and fortunately Davaeorn did not follow us. We then did some healing and returned to fight Davaeorn. Without the battle horrors to defend him, he was easy to deal with as we never gave him a chance to cast any more spells. We then cleared the rest of the mine and will now go to Baldur’s Gate to raise the dead members of our party.
Day 150
We have arrived in Baldur’s Gate and done a lot of small quests without difficulty. We raised Yeslick and Xan after which Yeslick went to stay at the Elfsong Tavern However, upon doing a bit of burglary for the thieves’ guild, we were attacked unexpectedly and Xan was killed permanently due to being backstabbed to the tune of 44 hit points. We therefore returned to find Indira as she is a slightly tougher mage. We also cleared the Firewine ruins and restored Ulcaster School without difficulty.
Day 153
We used stealth to find out what was happening at the Iron Throne and were immediately sent to Candlekeep. We were ambushed by ogre mages who were less of a problem than anticipated.
Day 158
We were falsely accused of murder inside Candlekeep and had to escape into the catacombs where we met many enemies. Most of them were not tough, but we had to take on Prat and his cohorts one at a time. Afterwards I scouted ahead, and upon discovering some medusae, we slept so that Indira could cast protection from petrification. Whilst trying to sleep, we were ambushed again and again, but finally were able to put our plans into practice.
Day 162
Near Nashkel we have come across some bandits. On one of them was a letter concerning an elven stone that had been lost. Having investigated this further, we have discovered that the stone is the stone of Askavaar.

Gyan and Imoen continued their makeshift adventures together.  Imoen was amused that Gyan was getting tired much faster than she was, but she didn't mention it knowing his history.  She did, however, continue to bug him to get a move on to the Friendly Arm Inn.  Gyan didn't listen.

After resting, there was an interesting encounter with Garrick and Silke:

During the initial fight, Silke's first lightning bolt nipped Imoen for 11 damage, and then Silke ran inside in Red Sheaf.  Then the bolt rebounded and killed Faltis and Glayde!

Gyan talked to Tessilan, who thanked them.  He and Imoen ended up with 3 potions of defense (1 as reward and 2 on the ground)!  Gyan healed Imoen and she suck into the Red Sheaf to see what the situation was.  She saw Silke by herself, and tried a backstab, but it failed.  Back outside, Silke got off another lightning bolt and ran back inside again. The bolt killed Imoen this time (19+11 damage).  So Gyan, with only 119 gold, had to sell the potions to have her raised.

The two returned to the scene, and Imoen reequipped.  This time they recruited Garrick to help them, and he gladly agreed despite being in her employ moments before.  Imoen entered and had another failed backstab.  However, when Silke followed outside this time, she was quickly struck down by many arrows, bolts, and stones.

After all that, Karlat was no problem.  A Hold Person quickly took care of him.

From there they talked to many people in the Red Sheaf and the Jovial Juggler to find out about any outstanding quests or interesting places in the area.  Then, they thanked Garrick for his help and sent him on his way.  The two siblings headed to High Hedge.  There they were attacked by cave bears and gnolls, but again, the two used their ranged weapons to great effect.   They sold almost everything of value that they had to Thalantyr, including Imoen's potion of speed and Gyan's staff +1 to buy the wand of sleep.  Hopefully, it would prove to be a wise choice.  Later that night they ran into gibberlings, most of which fell to the sleep wand.  Then a few more ghasts, which fell to arrows and stones.

Gyan still wanted to avoid the Friendly Arm Inn, so the pair huffed it around to the east.  There they ran from swarms of gibberlings, but got trapped by bandits.  The bandits, however, turned out to be unable to hit the agile Imoen with their arrows, and one by one they fell to arrows/stones and the wand of sleep.  Gyan was tired again, but Imoen insisted that he keep going, since it was his idea to head to Baldur's Gate.  They met more bandits around a local farm, and the same tactic worked:  Imoen as the front liner, wand of sleep, and ranged attacks vs. ranged attacks.

Then they helped some local fishermen, which turned into helping a young priestess.  They found that Baldur's Gate was closed, and that the wand of sleep did not work against the strange insect-like beasts in the area.  Before taking on any more tasks, they rested.  From there Gyan explored a cave and found some treasure, but could not carry it all.  So they headed north and cleaned up a zombie infestation at another farm.  Finally, they returned to the cave, and using stealth and Sanctuary, the two managed to drag the body they found back to his father.  It was tricky going, but there were enough places to maneuver so as not to alert the ankhegs.

Gyan started to get the feeling that he needed more help, to which Imoen replied "Duh!"  As they were heading back to the Friendly Arm, they met a paladin named Ajantis looking for traveling companions just as they were sighted by hobgoblins and ankhegs.

At the FAI, the newly formed trio fought off a smaller group of hobgoblins and then a wizard assassin.

They IDed their loot at the Temple of Wisdom, joined with Gorion's friends Khalid and Jaheira, sold their loot, equipped themselves with better armor, talked to Landrin (among other locals), rested, donated 1,000 gold to the Temple of Wisdom at Gyan's suggestion, and returned a lost ring.  From there, the 5 planned to travel south, eventually to Nashkel, as Khalid and Jaheira suggested.

The 5 started on their journey together with about 4,000 gold in hand, plus a few magical items.

Gyan - Level 5 Cleric (27 hp, +1 sling, charisma ring)
Imoen - Level 5 Thief (31 hp, short bow, wand of sleep, stealth boots)
Ajantis - Level 4 Paladin (32 hp, 2-handed sword)
Jaheira - Level 4/4 Fighter/Druid (30 hp, sling)
Khalid - Level 4 Fighter (44 hp, dual bastard swords, protection ring +1)

Gyan has probably made the right choice by putting together this experienced crew.  He may not know it now, but he will soon be trying to tackle the difficulties plaguing the Sword Coast.  Although, current results do suggest that it was a good idea to explore the region with his sister, learning the ropes of adventuring with easier quests before taking on bigger problems.

Thanks everyone.  I hope that Gyan survives.  It is somewhat of a risk to run with just 2 in the party early on, but it should pay off now that Gyan has added more friends.

@BBMorti - Yes, I am running TuTu.  The BG1 "look" comes from the Original BG1 GUI mod that can be found on the Pocket Plane Group website:  http://www.pocketpla...=134&Itemid=94  (It is on the right under "LadeJarl's Tutu GUI v1.8")

@Grond0 - Condolences on your Monks.

@Vaclavc - Your Cleric... Mage is doing well.  Are you going solo through BG1?  If so, I am interested to see your Coronation strategy.
