Candlekeep, a place of memories. My imp (which I have called Lincoln) turning into a mustard jelly and killing Firebead Elvenhair. Killing a watcher after being caught pilfering. Ah, good times even if my reputation is sullied (5).
Perhaps this is why a shadowy ranger called Kivan refuses to speak to me and I am forced to make my own way to Beregost. I buy a drink for Marl and a book to read, and head to Firebeads house to squat for the night. When I get there I find he is alive but his short-term memory is not fully restored, ie he can't remember the circumstances of his death or restoration.
It seems best to hide my true nature so I work hard on my reputation. First it is boosted by Firebead, then by Captain Brage and Oublek. A petrified ranger called Corianna is less praiseworthy but points us east. We are so busy running from gnolls that I almost run into a devilishly attractive warrior. I yell out to her that I will be back soon and escape to the north.
On our return there are more gnolls so I cast sleep and aim my arrows carefully. Lincoln refuses to attack the prone gnolls so I'm left to do the dirty work myself. I stuff him into my pack and slip into the shadows to sneak up on my target. Instead I have to backtrack away from a rock gnome and pets, then some more basilisks.
My beloved is petrified, so I free her only to realise it is Tamah and not the person I saw earlier. She also speaks well of me so my reputation is recovering nicely (9 average).
Finally I greet Shar Teel (for it is she) and rattle off several of my best chat-up lines. I am to prove myself before she will deign to talk to me. It's not long before she pierces my heart with an arrow (well almost). I rest and cast armour to try again. This time I blind her and add a magic missile but when I talk to her she decides we should start again - the best of three?
She's still blinded, and I am next to her so her arrows are less effective. I manage to hit her twice with my staff and she has to concede. My gnomish eyes open wide as she blindly stumbles our of her full plate and into some green ankheg armour. Has this woman no shame or am I just the gnome of her dreams?
I find my answer when Lincoln is collecting firewood. The next morning I realise I can cast Larlachs minor drain as a special ability, so a good night in many ways.
Kivan finally talks to us and when he mentions vengeance and of being a beastmaster I decide he can join us. He tries to summon a familiar but to no avail (1 per party then or is this only for CHARNAME) and as his alignment irks us we decide to meet him at the Friendly Arm Inn should we need his services.
After killing half a dozen diseased gibberlings we kills six gibblerlings, but Lincoln has perished and Shar Teel laughs as I reel from the pain. She switches to arrows and we pincushion a blinded ogre before resting to summon a Mark 2 imp. Shar Teel nicknames this one Hillman, but I'm concerned it may be as fragile as the first and cause me further pain. Caravan bandits are our final encounter before we return to Beregost.
Shar Teel is already becoming too valuable to risk losing so I enlist a sturdy berserker dwarf called Kagain. Shar Teel slips back into full plate and hands the ankheg armour to him, so it appears she's enjoying teasing us shorties. Then we set about finding a shield (Bjornin), sword (forge chest) and bracers (Hairtooth) for him followed by bracers (Zal) and a girdle (Krumm) for Shar Teel.
Our missiles are running out and Shar Teel is as fatigued as I am. Kagain polishes the copper-coloured top of his helm and advertises that he will go on and on.

I've just joined the forums because I managed to google around and find the old thread about this on the old bioware forums, and it sounded awesome.
A short note: After many years of loving and playing Baldur's gate (and Icewind Dale), I've never really experimented with mods... however, this time round (when the whim struck me and I decided to load them on to the PC *again*), I thought it was about time. Because I have previously had no experience with modding I'm actually not sure which ones I have installed at the moment, besides BGTutu and the mod that allows me to change NPC's kits (gogo Imoen the Swaskbuckler!)... as such I have no idea if I am doing a "legal" No Reload Challenge, but hey. It should be fun nonetheless.
Anyway, without further ado, I shall commence my journey!

Or rather, Khemri, the uncharacteristically kind half-orc, shall commence his journey!
Wish me luck

Candar's party finally makes it to the Cloakwood Mines. But Imoen scouted ahead and found what appeared to be two strong melees and two mages. Her stealth is not that good, but fortunately it was night so that helped her hiding.
Jaheira cast entangle and Garrick cast stinking cloud. Garrick then fired about 3 fireballs, using up our last fireball wand. Hmm, means have to do the mines without fireballs, this should be interesting. In any case, only Drassus could escape the entangles and stinking cloud and charged the party, but he was quickly mowed down. Just before coming here I splurged and got Khalid and Imoen lots of +2 arrows, they seemed to be making a difference.
After that, Imoen, Candar, and Khalid start attacking with their ranged weapons. The remaining assasins were destroyed without further incident. The AC 2 plate mail +1 no one needs, but thought hmm maybe will keep, who knows who we might encounter some one that might join and need it.
The party still has lots of looting space, so proceeds deeper into the mine. Since I have no cleric or fireballs, I needed to change my usual tactics for the key fights:
* Hereishan battle - no fireballs, so will have to be mostly melee and with any luck Jaheira's fear wand will have good effect (it did). See buffs in this screenshot:

I positioned the party out of sight, and had Ajantis peek around the corner. Some guards came, Ajants came back to they party (mainly to be out of sight of the mage) and we mowed the guards down. I then thought about my situation and said, wait a minute, Ajantis is well protected from dangerous magic, and has -6 AC with full plate (bonus to piercing dmg) and large shield (bonus to missiles). He should be able to charge the mage, and get the attention of the archers, allowing Jaheira to use the fear wand, and then after that it shoudl be safe to bring the party to finsh off the survivors. This worked perfectly. Ajantis took SOME damage, but nothing a few heals couldn't fix.
We saw a dwarf that might be handy to our cause, but we have no room in the party. I hate flooding the mines and thereby killing Yeslick, so the party headed back to our base, Friendly Arm Inn to remove a party member so we would have room. While on the way back got the worst amush, and Garrick died very fast to poision:

The party could just BARELY loot everything, at least only one person died, otherwise a lot of stuff would have been lost. We go into one more ambush and really miss Garrick's monster summoning wand, had to use a ton of antidotes but we pulled through.
Who to take out, who to take out (temporarily). The logical choice was Ajantis, so kicked him out for the moment. The party then headed back to the mine. We went into the mine and recruited Yeslick. Candar has been carrying around Bassilus hammer in case he needs to fight undead, so he let Yeslick borrow that. We gave him the 2 AC plate mail, and let him borrow the +1 shield that Candar carrys in case in case Khalid ever needs it (Khalid is too weak to carry his own shield in his pack, of course). I put Yeslick in the #2 position, Khalid used his Spider's Bane when meleeing, and we proceeded into the mine.
The next major fight went safely, despite all the enemies, thanks to a fear wand shot and two batches of summons. The barracks with the goblins, my normal tactic is to fireball, but none available so just charged. It seemed to work fine.
For the Ogre Mage, I had Yeslick gulp potion of magic shielding and charged the Ogre Mage. While Yeslick wasn't getting hurt, he had trouble connecting, so Khalid used his bow and killed the mage while Yeslick had the Ogre Mage's attention.
We finally get to the master of the Cloakwood Mine's lair. No invisibility was available (well Candar had ONE potion but that's to save his posterior). So I had Imoen stealth, detrap two traps, stealth, then detrap two more traps then back off. By doing this, Daveorn never noticed her.
I usually use summos here, but then I thought - hey he's just one guy. A fighter properly buffed should be able to solo Daveorn. I chose Khalid for the honor. Khalid gulped a haste potion, Jaheira cast remove fear and protection from lightning (VERY important buff against Daveorn), protection from fire from Yeslick, and last but not least, a magic blocking potion (50% rmagic resistance). Khalid is also wearing the Helmet of Defense.
Khalid charges Daveorn, chasing Daveorn as Daveorn dimension doors everywhere. Daveorn only got two offensive spells off, but Khalid shrugged them off. Khalid only dropped 56 to 44 HP. It worked pretty well, and defiintely much safer for the PC that's for sure!
So we flood the mine and head back to FAI. We sell, take the important equipment from Yeslick, and trade him out for Ajantis. With the new found cash, Candar purchased the cloak of displacement for himself in Ulgoth's Beard.
The party can finally enter the City of Baldur's Gate. That's where our adventure will continue next...

Kagain falls for the charms of Shoal the nereid but still manages to deal with Droth the ogre mage.
Shar Teel and Kagain power us through Bassilus, Nashkel mine, Lamahla's ambush. Nimbul scares Kagain and unleashes two sets of magic missiles before Hillman gobbles him up. Shar Teel deals with Tranzig and we head to Larswood.
Osmadi and a cave bear die, then a brown bear kills Hillman as we kill a second cave bear. I rest before summoning a Mark 3 imp. Perhaps it will live long enough to earn a name, if not my health will take another turn for the worse.
Teven and co fall, then imp 3 is killed by gibberlings as we try to leave for Peldvale. (constitution 12)

Candar and friends are continuing to explore the City of Baldur's Gate. Incidents of note:
* Found some rather belligerent necromancers on the top floor of Sorcerous Sundries. Our only prep was remove fear but that was more than enough to win the battle cleanly.
* I got the necklace for Nemphre and a corpse for her ex.
* We ran into some thieves in a house. We said we were like them but intentionally got the password wrong. They decided they were going to punish us, but 6 on 2 is not good odds and they were beat easily.
* Gave a +1 amulet to Euric on behalf of her mother. She rewarded us with a necklace of missiles so was well worth it, but not sure what a mother is doing with such an item...
* Got a quest to deal with a basilisk in a warehouse. With a frost giant potion and mirror eyes potion, Ajantis safely dealt with the problem.
* While in the low lantern, met Vay-ya and her buddy. We managed to separate them, and naturally 6 on 1 is really bad odds and we beat them quickly. Somewhere along the way Candar was using bolts of lightning and those bolts were really putting the beat down on the enemies. The Strength belt went to Khalid.
* Found 5 Ogre Mages who wanted our heads. However, before opening the door that led to them, Ajantis had gulped two fire resistance potions which put his fire resistance at 100%. Then he charged the mages while 3 party members threw in 3 well aimed fireballs via necklace of missiles, potion of explosions and wand of fire, and everyone else ranged. The ogre mages were beat very cleanly this way.
* A brother of the noble we had killed in the Cloakwood Forest tried to kill Candar. He failed. The crossbow of accuracy went to Candar. Candar's Thac0 with that crossbow is now 3. He now rarely misses and gets 2 attacks per round.
* We got the skyship components for Halruun the mage. After doing his request, he then tried to repay the favor by killing us. He failed, and we got a paralyzation wand in return for our troubles.
* We walked through an open door and a mage said we were thieves. He had a kensai and an archer to support him. The mage fell quickly to simple melee and ranged fire. Just to be safe Garrick fired off a charge from the monster summoning wand, this was more than enough to distract the remaining enemies and then the party mopped up. No one can use the ring of wizardry. Candar figured he might need this later, so put this in a chest back at our base (Friendly Arm Inn) for safe-keeping.
* Some thieves demanded all our money - we refused. Melee/ranged attack again ruled the day, though we had a batch of monster summons to distract the enemies which worked great.
* We discovered an Ogre Mage had some carrion crawlers killing peasants. He and his pets were permanently dealt with. We reported the news to Scar and he was quite happy with our finding.
Ajantis - level 7 paladin 53 HP
Khalid - level 7 fighter, 56 HP
Jaheira - level 6 fighter/level 7 druid, 54 HP
Imoen - level 8 thief, 41 HP
Candar - level 7 fighter, 78 HP
Garrick - level 7 bard (very soon a level 8), 19 HP

Intention is to dual to a druid, but I couldn't be bothered rolling long enough to get my normal 18 dexterity so have compromised there. Will probably aim to dual at level 9, rather than waiting for 13 as last time, in order to use druid combat protections instead of relying on low armour class at the start of BG2.
Thus far have explored most of the areas to the south, but not yet taken out the mines - that should be the next step. Only real threat to Cathbad was right at the start in Candlekeep when he was nearly killed by Mendas - Cathbad tried to run round the room to use a throwing dagger, but Mendas took the opportunity to hide in shadows and backstabbed for 8 HP. Other incidents of note:
- Montaron killed by a hobgoblin swipe early on.
- Took out the frustration of an unfortunate exit from the BG2 challenge by having Kagain whack Noober with a critical.
- Minsc blighted by Neira.
- Montaron flame struck by Bassilus.
- Melicamp saved.
This time round I haven't put any restrictions on the characters: Cathbad has already acquired a vicious throwing dagger from one Dark Horizons assassin and as others tool up the game should become pretty quick and easy.

Completed the mines and the gnoll stronghold without any real trouble. Then set off for Ulgoth's Beard to get a ring of free action, but were ambushed by the amazons on the way. The smart move would have been to jump straight out again, but they stuck around. Imoen was killed by an unholy blight, but things were otherwise looking good when Leela survived being hit twice to cast a hold person on Cathbad and Viconia. Maneira, who is obviously the cousin of a spider saw Cathbad stuck and used a poison dart on him - that obviously did quite a lot of damage because Cathbad's life ebbed away while the others could only watch.

In order to spice things up a bit I've done a reinstallation. Mods now are:
CharmPatch
BG2 Fixpack
BGT
Dark Horizons
Dark side of the sword coast
The Grey Clan
BGT Tweak Pack
BG2 UB
SCS
Solaufein
G3 Anniversary Mod
SCS II
Item Pack
Item randomiser
Worldmap
L1 NPCs
Some changes from last set-up are to omit Drizzt saga, restore insect plague to full functionality, add item randomiser and change a few things in L1 NPCs - Kagain now a berserker, Viconia fighter / cleric and Imoen a bard (suits her chirpy personality). As these changes generally make the game easier and it was a bit too easy at BG1 anyway a subsidiary aim for BG1 is to try and complete it without anyone being killed.

Imp4 helps against Raiken, Deke, Ardenor Crush, Garclax and Taugosz Khosann. Even as an ogre it is injured by Britik so has to flee, while Hakt poisons me with an arrow. Venkt is dead and as Britik chases the imp I follow while glugging a potion. Shar Teel and Kagain deal with Raemon and Hakt then help with Britik. Only later do we realise we forgot to take Hakt's bow.
We make our way quickly through Cloakwood, killing Seniyad and making straight for Eldoth Kron who isn't where I expected, so instead we travel with a totemic druid called Faldorn.
She demonstrates how spirit summons and a dread wolf can overwhelm an unfortunate hamadryad, even if one of them goes rogue and eats imp4 (constitution 11). Similar tactics deal with Drasus while Hareishan casts Agannazar's Scorcher to defeat them but upset enough mercenaries to get them fighting each other.
While we ponder how to deal with Davaeorn imp5 has turned into a mustard jelly and is feasting on dead mage. I have my evidence and will decide whether to flood or loot the mine later.
Two wyverns ambush us on the way back but we emerge with their skulls as trophies. After selling them in Beregost and teaming up with Tiax (didn't see him earlier) we head to Baldurs Gate where Imanel Silversword is asking for Kivan. We quickly find him and return to her.
We have to fight her and her pets, killing them but not before a vampiric wolf has made short work of imp5. Tiax gets some new armour while Kivan gets to keep his old bow. Before parting we visit High Hedge and let him laugh at us trying to use his magical spear. We laugh even more when he fails to get to grips with it either (must have a mod issue).
Imp6 arrives and we head into the city sewers to deal with an ogre mage where Tiax adds a ghast into our temporary party. Imp7 is required thanks to Ratchild and I'm seriously considering what happens if my constitution drops to zero.
Schlumpsha's sewer ogre forces imp8 (constitution 8). The Maulers of Undermountain only kill Gorpal Hind, then we clear two buildings of shapeshifters and go talk to Scar and Duke Eltan.
Kagain, berserker 6. 150 kills, Schlumpsha.
Shar Teel, fighter 6. 256 kills, Seniyad.
Grello, illusionist 5 thief 6. 66 kills, phase spider.
Faldorn, totemic druid 7. 21 kills, Drasus.
Tiax, cleric 6 thief 6. 3 kills, winter wolf.

No problems in Candlekeep, but made heavy weather of the first area. There were lots of goblins and hobgoblins with the ability to kill with a single shot, so Arbiter took the point position and rarely let the others get a shot off. She had to use up 3 potions of healing in completing the area - stocks won't last long at that rate.
Went straight up to the Friendly Arm and cleared that - Tarnesh falling to the combination of backstab and wand of magic missiles. Then back to the ogre's area; one worrying moment when a kobold I thought only had a knife produced a bow, but fortunately did not shoot at Xzar. The ogre didn't have the girdle of piercing, but did have a belt with Umshey's name on. This presumably could be used to fulfil this quest, but I won't travel back there at the moment due to the danger of bandit ambushes - until I get an invisibility that would almost certainly result in Xzar's death. Instead, carried on down the road to Beregost and safely reached there.
Edit: cleansed the spiders, appeased Marl and allowed Imoen to try out her pickpocketing skills to get a new cloak in Beregost before heading on down the road. Recruited Viconia successfully, although the Flaming Fist did manage to hold Arbiter just before he was killed. Used a few hobgoblins as shields to take out Tristan and Isolde - glad to see that their weapons have not been randomised. That gave Arbiter a level, but only a measly 5 HP.
After returning a scroll to a grateful wife wanted to rest, but an aggressive dwarf was blocking the inn door. To start with he was reluctant to come out to play, but a couple of backstabs from Montaron got him moving to his doom. After resting carried on down the road to Nashkel. Cleared the next area without trouble; Arbiter's throwing dagger gives her a big advantage in ranged combat, so kobolds, hobgoblins etc are no longer much of a threat. Xzar had learnt armour and put that up in case of a stray arrow, but was never actually targeted.
In Nashkel found a ring of energy where the armour normally is. Also put up with Noober to maximise XP. I was a bit worried about Neira casting holy smite, but her first spell was interrupted and she didn't get a second chance. In the mines area managed to misclick and tell Prism I was Greywolf
After resting went to look in on Bassilus. With the help of Zargax and his colleagues he was quickly defeated; he did manage to hold Arbiter, but she was safely out of the firing line by then. During the area Arbiter got L3 and this time a very welcome 14 HP. After cashing in the reward the party went to clear the temple area - vampiric wolves become a good source of XP when you have a magic throwing dagger! After successfully doing that disaster struck as some wild dogs attacked and I relaxed a bit too much against them. One got in a large bound to bite Xzar and nibbled away all his 6 HP - even more annoyingly he had actually got the XP for a level and if he had used this would not have died - one death down.
After resting in Beregost returned some boots (briefly) to Zhurlong. After delivering what I thought was a well deserved punishment to a notorious rogue I found that the party had taken a reputation hit - don't remember that ever happening with him before. Went on to High Hedge and sanitised that - the throwing dagger also makes flesh golems into walking XP and that gave Arbiter L4 and a meagre 7 more HP. Successfully revived Melicamp to get a bit of reputation back, but disappointingly Thalantry does not have invisibility for sale.
After resting again in Beregost returned Perdue's short sword and Imoen stole some items, including the Morgoth bow - the party is really cranking up on the missile capability now. Decided had enough fire power to take on the gnoll stronghold and so went down to Nashkel and swapped Zxar for Edwin. At L3 he has 15 HP compared to Xzar's 8 - still very vulnerable to a single critical, but definitely a better bet for survival. Therefore recruited Kagain and briefly visited the caravan area before heading back south.
Sendai and co and Zal and Vax quickly fell before Kagain's axe (though one of them yielded up the golden girdle), while a harmless young boy was told to take his dog home. In the next area across helped out a dryad and a girl who had lost her cat before finding the stronghold itself.
Edit2: had a bit of luck with the party there - Montaron failed to charm one of them and was dominated in turn, which meant Kagain had to do some fancy footwork to keep him occupied. Meanwhile the invisible assassins tried to attack Edwin. With 19 HP he would be very vulnerable to a backstab so chugged the party's only invisibility potion. Imoen was next in line, but with 33 HP she successfully rode 2 backstabs. The druid/mage had stayed back and Kagain went berserker to take care of him, while the last fighter was shot down easily. The party then went on to the treasure caves and found a tome of charisma for Arbiter before clearing the rest of the fortress (unfortunately for Dynaheir). Kagain took a couple of nasty swipes from a gnoll clan leader, but came through them. Arbiter reached L5, but only another 7 HP - could do with a few good rolls now.
Running a bit short of both ammunition and inventory space, but decided to take on the area just north of the gnoll stronghold before heading back to Nashkel and coped well with the gibberling hordes. After an uneventful journey home had a rest then visited the carnival before running through the mines. Used Algernon's cloak to cope with the duergar, but then left it to Kagain to take the heat at the front. Mulahey attempted one hold person before he was killed, but Kagain saved. On exiting explored the area. Still no ring of free action, but Kagain used his berserking to nullify the ghasts - then, while it was still running, quickly turned on the mage nearby. However, instead of a wand of monster summoning in the tombs got a suit of armour, which Montaron put on only to find it was cursed with missile attraction! After exploring the remainder of the area went back to the temple to find a remove curse at the temple.

Back in Nashkel Nimbul made a stunning failure against Edwin's chromatic orb. On resting Arbiter gained a second LMD. Up the road in Beregost thwarted Silke's evil plan and found out the location of the bandit HQ from Tranzig - he also had a find familiar scroll that Arbiter made use of. Then headed to High Hedge with the intention of acquiring a ring of free action. On arrival was jumped by Lamalha and co. Edwin immediately took an invisibility potion leaving Imoen to survive a backstab. After that the amazons didn't last long.
Decided to spring the Dark Horizons ambush to the south of the Friendly Arm. Montaron charmed the visible one - who immediately got whacked by the others. They then came after the party, but one got killed by a pair of fireballs. The other was lining up for a backstab, but most of the party got far enough away leaving Arbiter to stand tall and take the 39 HP under the chin. The period until the assassin went invisible again wasn't sufficient to kill him, but he missed his backstab the second time and paid for it.
Then headed north to ankheg land. Kagain has no trouble with those and soon acquired the treasure. On to the bridge area and another bunch from Dark Horizons. A couple of fireballs softened them up, but Kagain still needed to quickly quaff a couple of healing potions before they were finished off. At Ulgoth's Beard acquired another ring of free action, but unfortunately the shop didn't stock the green amulet. Back south and, after resting, went to the xvart village. The second ambush party tried to stop us, but Imoen got off a web and cramped their style, while Kagain applied the finishing touches. One of them had an ebon helm providing charm protection - should be able to go after those sirines now. Went back to town to rest and free up some inventory space and then decided the next step should be to sack the bandit camp.

The party continued to explore the City of Baldur's Gate. Incidents of note:
* We returned Nestor's daggor to his buddy
* Found a house with some invisible stalkers, grimwarders, and battle horrors. We used haste potion, a strength potion for Khalid, and a VERY liberal use of the monster summoning wand. We probably summoned 6 batches of monsters. The party kept at it, however, and killed these enemies without any casualties. Found a dangerous mage, realized he was up to no good and then took him down.
* Took care of a peeping tom, Grevisse (why the guard doesn't handle these kind of problems I will never know...)
* Found a helm of balduran. This went to Ajantis.
* Engaged in battle with a group calling themselves mountain maulers. A couple batches of monster summonings was more than enough distraction for the party to defeat them, though a few shots of wand of heavens from Jaheira didn't hurt anything either.
* A boy was killed at Umberlee's temple. Since Tenya owed us a favor, it was a simple matter to retrieve the boy's body and have his father resurrect him. Nice to see at least one happy ending in this city.
* A very powerful Ogre called Larze attacked the party. Khalid got hit hard and had to gulp a few heal potions, but with our bolts of lightning (the crossbow bolts) and acid arrows, Larze did not last long.
* We now had an extra pair of thac0 gauntlets - we gave (returned) one to the lady in the warehouse who lost hers.
* We found a skull in the north part of town. The Temple of the Lady Priestess said that Gorak was now cured.
* Marek and his buddy got us poisoned. We dealt with the poision problem and with Marek, permanently. The nice shortbow went to Imoen.
* We stole a telescope for a gnome who repaid us for it with 500 gold and a lightning wand. Not a bad deal...
* Tried to sell some cookies to a butler, but said he was going to clean up the mess (us). Instead, the butler himself ended up making a mess, but we didn't clean it up. We tried to talk to his master to tell him about his aggressive butler, but the master was aggressive too. He failed just like his butler (when will people realize that 6 on 1 is lousy odds?).
* Tried to convince Razmamith that we shouldn't take the nymph, but he got hostile and was cut down by the party. We explored the rest of his rather strange complex (pet ghasts/jellies? And hobgoblins? Why would Razmamith want to feed these things? Does he often get hostile visitors?). The intelligence tome went to Candar, since Garrick intelligence is low enough one more point won't make a real difference. The +2 ring went to Candar (saving vs. bad spells is always good).
* Gave the book called History of Unicorn Run to a bard. She was quite happy and gave us a poison scroll.
* Freed a nymph from Ragefast - did not require violence. She gave a lock of her hair in gratitude, which in turn we got made into a nymph's cloak.

Got up to the Cloakwood mines, but I'm going to abandon this game there. Failing to avoid any deaths took some point out of the game and I'm finding the party is now too overpowered to make playing it very enjoyable. Although it might be possible to just not use any mod items, it's not always easy to identify these (for instance when selling things for cash) and I think I'd prefer to just use a set-up with less available (although not to the extent of Hard Times).

No - and that is what I had started doing as there were a number of areas I hadn't explored before hitting the bandit camp and then the mines. However, I had effectively done this anyway for at least the last 2 times I have gone through BG1. Initially there was some prospect at the end of the storyline for challenge from mods, e.g. battle at Friendly Arm in Grey Clan. However, having played through them a few times all the mod battles are now easy, even without bothering with any buffing, so the only point of continuing would have just been to get the character to BG2. On this occasion I decided that wasn't enough.corey_russell wrote...
I think I see what you are talking about Grond0. But am curious, if the party seems overpowered was there any reason you couldn't just do the story line quests only and get to the end quickly and avoid all the side quests?
Incidentally, I intended when I ended the run to keep the original start version of Arbiter and import them into another game (as they hadn't actually been killed) once I'd loaded the new mods - which I've now done. However, I deleted the old version without saving the copy

Surprisingly it only took me about 15 minutes to roll up a replacement Arbiter.

She does need 1 extra charisma to dual to druid, so I hope I don't have trouble with this as a result of using the randomiser (I have set it so that nothing is supposed to be permanently lost, so I hope not). Mods in place are:
CharmPatch
BG2 Fixpack
BGT
BG1 NPC Project
BG1 UB
BGT Tweak Pack
BG2 UB
SCS
Solaufein
SCS II
Item Pack
Ding0's Experience Fixer
Item randomiser
Worldmap
L1 NPCs
So far have:
- finished Candlekeep
- cleared the initial area
- gone to the FAI and removed Tarnesh (in this setup Imoen is a bard and comes with an extra wand of magic missiles, which made this easy)
- cleared the caravan area (difficult as I'd forgotten the caravan bandit leader had now reappeared in this setup and he shoots faster than anyone in my party, but several healing potions and magic missiles, larloch's got rid of him)
- travelled to Beregost. Montaron would not allow me to make peace with Marl and I forgot the AI was on and unfortunately took the reputation hit for killing Dunkin as well.

On travelling to the area south of Beregost the game crashed. I tried a few diversions and confirmed it was that area causing the crash rather than, say, the Beregost bug (which should have been cured by SCS anyway). As I've played with all the mods being used except item randomiser I was suspicious of that and have reinstalled without it.
Now have successfully cleared that area, recruiting Viconia in the process and teaching a lesson to a rude fellow and his friends guarding the road.

This is BG1 - there is a separate thread in the BG2 section for that.Sandbox47 wrote...
Hmm... Is this BG 1 or BG 2? Because I can't do BG 1 with no reload. Seeing how I'm always a bard.
Any character can successfully do BG1. If you use NPCs having a bard is actually a pretty useful choice - your main character will often want to stay out of the way, which suits a bard encouraging other characters. If you do it solo you will probably need to use help of some sort for the harder battles (for instance wand of monster summoning or charming opposition), but it's definitely possible.

That does mean my party will be necessarily limited to myself, Montaron and Kagain at first so it will be a bit of a challenge without a cleric. When I gain access to BG who do people think is better suited to join my merry band - Tiax or Quayle ?
So without further ado let me introduce Ciaphas (no relative of the famous Commissar): -
LE Halfling Fighter/Thief
Str: 17
Dex: 19
Con: 18
Int: 10
Wis: 5
Cha: 18
Weapon Proficiencies: -
Short Sword: **
Two Weapon Style: **
Thieving
OL: 50; FT: 25; PP: 35; MS: 60; HIS: 35; DI: 0; ST: 10
Wish me luck! I'd hate for my first post to be swiftly followed by a ravaging from a dread wolf (Tutu seems to beef up the monster spawns a bit compared to a vanilla install).

You could always recruit Viconia on the grounds that drow are supposed to be a bit shorter and slighter than humans. Also there are various mods that allow characters to be recruited in different locations (earlier in the game), e.g. BG1 NPCs. This would allow you to get Tiax and Quayle at L1. Given you already have 2 thieves in your party I would have thought Quayle would offer you a better balance than Tiax - some arcane magic in the party would probably be helpful. Or why not recruit both since that would only give you 5 in the party anyway.Melchom wrote...
