Not really sure what I'll do instead. I've been dreaming about trying a solo run with a ranger, as I really want to try the lone wanderer type. Most of my recent runs have been parties, so I kinda miss the soloers. It just makes it a whole other game. I'll think about what I'll do for a bit!

I am very sorry for the loss of Demivel, he was great character.Gate70 wrote...
I don't even see which one lands the fatal blow.
Since it is basically my fault he died (after all, I recommended this tactic to you), I will elaborate in more detail what I do with f/m/t characters in this fight :
First, I run and hide behind the wall in the front cabin. There, I can safely buff. I ALWAYS wear armor in this fight, in full plate, with Ring or Cloak of Protection +2 and buffs, f/m/t should have around -13 AC, plus Golden Girdle. With such a low AC, even Wolfweres will have troubles hitting him.
With Mirror Image, it is relatively safe to fight them toe to toe. If I need to recast wizard spells in armor, I can use scrolls.
It is also possible to restealth after backstab using ring or potion (as you did).
Sooner or later, Karoug will be paralyzed via wand, though it may take several tries. I like to finish him with bouncing lightning bolts - all werebeasts on the island may be killed using wand of lightning and/or wand of heavens.
And I wouldn't hesitate to run away to live and fight another day should things go wrong.
I am afraid you are - here is little analysis:corey_russell wrote...
Hmm Vaclavc did I get some bad HP rolls? My Fighter thief has 68 HP. But he is wearing the HoB so really it's just 63 - I only have 6 more measly HP than you do? And I am using D10 (fighter) and D6 (thief) with 19 CON while you are only using Cleric (D8) and Mage (D4). Am I being gypped by the BG gods?
Valhyron's hp gains
Cleric L1 8 hp; L2 +3hp; L3 +3 hp; L4 +2 hp; L5 +6 hp; L6 +6 hp; L7 +8 hp
Mage L8 +4 hp
Slightly above average gains, with 16 CON they make 56 hp total.
Picenon 7F/8T 63 hp
During fighter level-ups, Picenon should gain 1 hp at rolls 1,2,3; 2 hp at rolls 4,5; 3 hp at rolls 6,7; 4 hp at rolls 8,9; or 5 hp at roll 10
During thief level-ups, he gains 1 hp at rolls 1,2,3; 2 hp at rolls 4,5; or 3 hp at roll 6
It seems that Picenon's hitpoints are below average. For the comparison, my last F/T multi back in the old Bioware forums had 72 hp.

I'm not worried about the below average HP though - the whole reason I play core rules on the level up is for the challenge. There's also the little detail that a huge HP PC can die just as suredly as low HP PC (you got confused/held/feared? dead). I remember my Fighter/Cleric from a while ago, had massive stats, HP, spells...but just the same died to fear and then a lowly kobold shaman getting a hold on him in BG 2 in the Temple Sewers...

Yes, I'd noticed your lightning trick, decided I'd be very lucky to achieve that on my first attempt. I'd be interested to know if you've killed Karoug without it, his regeneration is so extreme (at least in BGT) that despite an oil of speed he regenerated a 26hp backstab between me glugging an invisibility potion and applying another backstab.Sooner or later, Karoug will be paralyzed via wand, though it may take several tries. I like to finish him with bouncing lightning bolts - all werebeasts on the island may be killed using wand of lightning and/or wand of heavens.
Same here. Except when I only have the tactics and buffs for a single attempt. And I wouldn't hesitate to run away to live and fight another day should things go wrong.
It was a fun attempt and I'm surprised how long he held the entire pack off. Edit. for a start, the sword is a bad choice for a backstabber. I've just used CRTL/Y to kill the others and CTRL/Q to add him to my party. I hit him for 48hp damage and no kidding he gained 6hp/second to be healed in about 8 seconds.
He only has 66hp and the martial staff works against him in BGT, just chunked him with a 7 (+17) roll. I believe he's immune to that weapon in vanilla though. I had intended to use an invisibility potion to sneak out if necessary so can see how I could have done it easily if I'd REALLY thought about it.

When we last heard of Picenon, he was in the middle of a battle with Cythrandria, her pets were dead. Picenon tried an arrow of biting but she saved. He then ran to the right and hid. She came to where he last was, he backstabbed and got out sight one more time. One final backstab finished her off.
Picenon then headed to the Undercellar. While stealthed, he moved so that he could see Slythe but NOT Kristin - with any luck it would be a one-on-one battle. Picenon fired arrows of dispelling until Slythe's buffs were gone. He didn't follow because he was in the center and a courtesan was in the way! So then Picenon just kept unloading on him. Even when the courtesan moved out the way, Slythe still couldn't climb up the stairs to go after Picenon - stuck? Picenon was unbuffed by the way (he had invisibility potions so it wasn't as dangerous as it sounds). Slythe fell. And using a trick others mentioned to me in my all paladin run, I moved to Slythe's loot - paused, looted his sword and documents and ran away. Krystin stayed invisible, but that was fine with me.
Picenon then headed to Beregost to get rid of stuff not needed for the Duchal Palace. We went to Sorcerous Sundries to get haste potion, cloud giant potion, heroism and regeneration (why not). Picenon showed up at the palace in Full plate and -7 AC using his Martial Staff. I have no summons, so I positioned myself next to Belt, since he has the best chance of surviving. Well I wanted to get a head start and killed a noble before he had completely changed to a doppleganger - that was a mistake. My reputation dropped TEN points, and made a number of flaming fist hostile. I ignored the fist and concentrated my attacks on the dopplegangers, whose morale broke and were all over the place. Fortunately Belt realized I was trying to save him, and killed the Fist for me so I wouldn't take any more rep hits.

After showing Belt Sarevok's Diary, I had a little scuffle with Sarevok. I tried arrows of dispelling but they did nothing for some reason. So I went invisible and backstabbed him then he ran.
I then did some shopping to prepare for the final confrontation. Here are my resources before entering the Thieve's Maze. My plan was to use my invisiblity ring through the whole maze all the way to the Temple of Bhaal. This almost worked, but I accidentally fired an arrow (misclick) at a jelly. Used ring of invisibility again and finally made it to the Temple without further incident.
I entered the temple and used a ton of scrolls/potions, see preparation below:

I moved up to the left out of sight. I fired a necklace of missiles charge, paused and hid in th shadows (my chances of hiding in the shadows are VERY good, see here.) I ran to the entrance but no one came! I did this repeatedly for about 7 times -- apparently if I had infinite necklace of missiles I could do this repeatedly until Sarevok's cronies were dead. I don't of course, and doing VERY little damage (like 2-4) so wasn't worth the time. Finally I fired a shot and did NOT hide right away. Sarevok approached, web/stinking could hit my position so I backed off and hid in the shadows - this threw Sarevok off the trail.
Semaj appeared. Fired arrows of dispelling at him then arrows of biting all the way. Took a few hits but eventually the poison stuck and that was that.
Angelo and Tazok were relaxing, so it's just me and Sarevok now. I found Sarevok and he was coming real fast - that's right he still has his haste. I run away and try an arrow of dispelling and it connects. Also try acid arrows but they miss, Sarevok approaching fast, I use a invisiblity potion and backstab. I repeat this 2 more times.
Out of invisibility potions, so ran toward a big pillar at the left. Got hit by a lightning bolt but did no damage. What's funny is as I stealthed and went around the pillar, Sarevok came to my last known position and got hit with the bolt! Only did 2 damage though...
It turned out, it was very easy to backstab and stealth repeatedly around this pillar. Took about 3 backstabs I think and success!

This is a trilogy no-reload, headed to Amn. Here is Picenon's final BG 1 stats:

Hope he can continue his success in BG 2. I have some ideas how I can improve my approach vs. my last solo F/T attempt in Amn.

Day 225
We have stopped the plans of the Grey Clan in their tracks. It was not that difficult except for the final battle where Holy Avenger got killed just as the battle was won. However, now that gavin can raise the dead, that was no real problem.
Day 227
We have now entered Durlag's Tower and cleared everything above ground level.

Time for a rather large update and introduction to my new project, soloing a Ranger through Baldurs Gate 1 SCS.
Allow me to introduce Canderon the Stalker!
Canderon is a follower of Torm, just as Gorion had hoped he would be, though he adored the forests surrounding Candlekeep the most. Every so often he would climb the ramparts to watch the sun set beyond the forest majestically. Canderon is skilled with both the Short Bow and the Staff, having recieved his training from Erik and Hull. He's a strong and gentle spirit, but both intelligent and wise enough to know when he needs to make a hasty retreat to the shadows.
Once Gorion had fallen far too early in their journey - Canderon soon found himself in Beregost. There he was hired by the woman Silke to dispose off some thugs. Understanding that he had been duped far too late, the Ranger disposed of th evil Mage and freed Garrick from her grasp. As payment, Garrick stole a Cloak and offered it to Canderon - the Ranger humbly accepted, though he did not approve of the deed.
Before long the Ranger walked the roads, forests and hills of the Sword Coast - some times forced to fight, while other times able to sneak away unscathed. The Cloak Garrick gave him served him well in many encounters, though his skill with the Staff often served him just as well. Warriors, Dart Throwers, Bounty Hunters, Swordsmen, Golems and Greywolf himself soon found themselves at the mercy of the Ranger - as he pressed onwards, determined to aid in solving the troubles currently plaguing the Coast.
In his travels he encountered the Thief Safana, who aided him in battle against an Ogre-Mage. She turned on him when they where to split the loot however, and she soon joined the Ogre-Mage in oblivion.
Some time thereafter, Canderon braved the Nashkel mines - and found great evil within. It would seem that the Half-Orc Mulahey was behind the troubles, but Canderon's staff soon ended his plans.
It would seem that the plot had thickened, as he soon found out from the scrolls in Mulahey's chest. Canderon traveled to Beregost, learning of the Bandit Camp from Tranzig - before ending the foul Mage's life.
Canderon traveled towards the Bandit Camp with all haste, as he could not allow the villains to escape his justice - but noticed along the way that he was beeing followed. The Ranger knew well enough about tracking to leave false ones, and soon came upon his attackers when they where ill prepared. His Cloak had charmed what seemed to be their leader, buying him enough time to slain them - one at a time. Their Mage fell first, followed by Morvin - then Drakar and Molkar met their fates shortly after.
Upon reaching the Bandit Camp, Canderon had noticed a shift in the wind - gaining the advantage over yet another group of Assassins. This time, he slew their leader before the rest reached them - hiding her body before slipping into the shadows.
His Wand of Sleep was put to good use in the heart of the Camp, laying waste to his enemies before they could harm him. The leader of the Hobgoblins was charmed by Canderon's Cloak, thus allowing the Ranger to slay his remaining enemies with his arrows.
As he entered the main tent, a place swarming with the leaders of the foul bandits - he attacked from the Shadows, before unleashing the power from his Necklace of Missiles. The fight was soon over, as the last Bandit fell.
After drinking a potion of Magic Protection, Canderon learned more about the evil deeds plaguing the Coast, from the scrolls he found within a trapped chest - thus Cloakwood would be his next goal.
Canderon is now a level 7 Stalker, ready to brave the merciless woods.
(Sorry about the huge update, but I've been enjoying playing this character quite a lot, thus taking more screenshots than I usually do!)

Upon reaching Cloakwood, Canderon assisted the local Druids in a dispute - slaying Aldeth Sashenstar in the process. He made his way through the woods, not interfering with the other druids, but ending the life of a bloated creature - it's evil presence was a disturbance in the woods, thus it had to die.
Outside the Cloakwood Mines, Canderon used guile to lay waste to his attackers - though he was lucky to use his Greenstone Amulet when he did. He then sneaked his way into the lair of Davaeorn - a Mage who's magic proved to be futile against the now quite experienced Stalker.
Canderon soon found himself within the walls of Baldurs Gate, a busy city with many a task available for those who wanted it. The mage Ramazith was slain by Canderon, as his potent items was something Canderon wanted. Marek found his end at one of Canderon's arrows, though his recklessness almost became his end.
Before long the lone Stalker investigated the Iron Throne, and in the process slew their henchmen - in a controlled but deadly battle. Naught much remained after his return from Candlekeep, but slaying the assassins Slythe & Krystin as well as Cythandria.
Framed for the murders on the Iron Throne leaders, Canderon cleared his name using Sarevok's diary - but had to defend himself and the Grand Dukes against Sarevok's Doppelgangers! He prevailed, and chased after Sarevok through a maze, then finally to his hideout.
Canderon knew this had to end, as Sarevok would never stop before he was dead - but the Ranger had other plans in mind. He quickly disposed off Semaj before fully buffing on potions and scrolls - and then fought Sarevok with his deadly arrows. A feint and potion of invisibility fooled Sarevok in just the right moment, before Canderon finally ended his evil brother's life.

Canderon will be moving on to Amn before long, as I absolutley loved playing him!

* Observations to date:
Well HP wise we can all be one shotted, which is why not officially submitting a challenge until everyone has at least one level in both of their classes. The amount of mojo we can put on a single target, though is massive - Tarnesh was beat by 4 commands and a blindness cast the 1st round.
Since at level 1 the half-elf cleric/mages only have one mage spell, I having the protoganist and the 2 other cleric/mages use armor for now (which is why they are in the front), the cleric/illusionists are walking naked. Almost every battle has went to plan, though I did have one close one -- we got hit by a huge ambush, like 20 enemies, hobgoblin melees and lots of bandit archers. Joshua got hit and had 1 HP left - he potioned. To try to minimize the attackers, Belle cast sleep, taking out maybe 2/5 of the enemy archers. This was enough for the party the make their escape unscathed.
The party is currently trying to clear the road area, just south of Beregost.

BGT keeps going, to 8m I guess. Grond0 & I hit about 380k each in our multiplayer run but didn't level up past 161k. We reset our starting XP to 161k in SOA too, easy to do via the console with CLUAConsole:SetCurrentXP("161000")
Edit, Corey I'd like to see how much xp Angelo gets for detonating 72+ skeletons.
He won't be getting any, I know how to pull just Sarevok and Semaj.

Makes me wonder more about Greater Malison + Doom and then 6 Chromatic Orb attacks each round... I don't know just how incredible his saves are, though (IIRC the Orb would stun for two turns... more than enough for the skeleton lackeys to easily beat him into submission).corey_russell wrote...

Doom isn't in vanilla, which is what I am playing. Also Sarevok would get +6 to save PLUS his magic resistance, I think the MMs would be more reliable for me. But nevertheless I could do malison and just spam orbs until they worked.

You might try web instead. A number of times I have gotten him stuck in a web after casting malison.
