Vorn, cg male dwarf battlerager.

I select the wrong door in Beregost and have to kill four huge spiders. Officer Vai pays me handsomely for a bunch of scalps and I buy or take the gear I need.
Image IPB

I glug the potions left to right and enter the bandit tent in a battlerage.
Image IPB

Venkt, Hakt, Raemon and Britik is the targeted order. I have to heal above the fatigue point mid battle.
Image IPB

My other boots partially protect me from a lightning bolt trap after Ender Sai tells me to investigate a hidden mine deep in Cloakwood.

@Grond0- Do you have any interesting elven Sorceress portraits? If so, let me know. I'm thinking about doing an elven sorceress and I'm reluctant to bring Alanis out of retirement. I could use a new portrait.

Vorn, cg male dwarf battlerager.

On to Cloakwood, where I help Seniyad and get a better sword.

Further into Cloakwood. I kill a huge spider, but have forgotten to battlerage and get webbed. A second spider hits me once but I struggle free of the web and kill it in safety.

I decide to return to the pirate cave, using a potion of absorbtion to kill the three flesh golems. Thalantyr unlocks the secret of regeneration for me.

Back to Cloakwood where I discover battlerage doesn't stop me from getting webbed. Five ettercaps start to shred me, and I'm lucky to stumble away moments later. I glug an elixir of health as I leave the web and cast cure wounds twice to escape the fatigue zone.

The next area of Cloakwood sees me battlerage a hamadryad and two spiders level 7 reached.

Cloakwood mine, where I intend to buff and rush with a serious potion run.

I glug mind focusing, absorbtion, heroism, stone giant strength only much later do I realise strength should be ahead of mind focus and an oil of speed. Then I battlerage the mages.
Image IPB

As soon as Drasus and Genthore are dead I pick up a potion of frost giant strength and equip some boots speed. I'm wounded 60/89hp and my rage will shortly wear off but I kill three more guards and glug a potion of regeneration.

My rage wears off 20/74hp as Faber calls the guards but I kill them and continue. I switch girdles to piercing and glug a blue potion before proceeding.

A few guards are no problem but I glug another blue as I get hit by a magic missile trap. Then I send a lightning trap into the next room and follow up.
Image IPB

I clear the room 62/74hp then free Rill and Yeslick. In the next level I drop the hobgolbin archers then the guards. Three more hobgoblins then I have a straight run to the final level.

I kill the final guard and glug a second potion of regeneration. A mis-step sees two battle horrors attack at once so I throw Hareishans potion of firebreath and attack.

overlapped to-hit rolls to show continuity.
Image IPB

I battlerage Davaeorn, brushing aside a trap, lightning bolt, fireball and dire charm. He re-casts mirror image but I'm lucky with my target selection.
Image IPB

With the mine flooded I can head into Baldurs Gate.

Can't believe how well the entire mine map went, can only imagine the result if I'd got the potion order right. Checked the slider and it is on insane. Currently on 94k with next level at 125k, tempted to try werewolf island at that point.

Oh, and by the way - someone mentioned something about summoning a Familiar at level one messed up something with BG2? Anyone know how I can remedy that?

Congratulations Easymask - best of luck in Amn.

I suspect you're thinking about HPs being too high for PCs imported to BG2.  This isn't a problem with BGT as the HPs stay the same and you can find your old familiar in the dungeon.  Under Tutu you would need to reset your HPs with shadowkeeper or console.

I noted you used lots of summons in the palace fight. Presumably you don't have improved dopplegangers in your SCS install - the only summons that you can really use with them are skeletons as others quickly get confused and attack the wrong people!

Thank you Corey and Grond0, much appriciated!

Aye I was Grond0 - I'll just leave them be then, thank yo ufor the help. :)

I actually tried the Improved Doppelgangers with a previous incarnation of Loken, but that horrified me to say the least. I probably should the next time I do a run though, as it's bound to get me into heaps of trouble!

I don't get no skeletons to play with though, as I'm only using BG1 spells - but I'm thinking about changing that as well.

This is the only one I've got that I would use for an elven sorceress.  I like it, although I guess it's a question of taste whether you consider her as being elvish enough.
Image IPB

Edit: I suppose you could also consider this one I'm currently using for a wild mage.

Rolled up a new wild mage version - continuing the trickster theme with Raven.
Image IPB

She's had two attempts.  Both times successfully getting funds in Candlekeep to buy bag of holding using wild surges - must have had about 40 surges with no deaths, so quite lucky there.  The first version died when she moved too slowly and was targeted by Tarnesh.  The second was again a very minor control error when coming out of Mulahey's cave that allowed a kobold a shot - a critical resulting.

I think the chance of successfully completing a run would actually be quite decent - maybe as high as 50% - if played perfectly. It's just cutting out the little errors which is the problem at the moment.

Thanks Grond0. I looked around online for awhile. These are the ones I'm considering.

The first is a bit too "male fantasy" for my taste, the second too human. I think you used the third one for a bard once. I like the gothic, 19th century feel of the fourth but it isn't stylized enough. The last is my favorite, but I think I'm going to reserve that for a later human.

I like Alanis's portrait better than any of them. I could bring her out retirement (she completed the second Trilogy No Reload in the threads history, the first with tactical mods) but I really don't want to risk getting her killed. Not sure...

Best,

A.

IIRC, her name was Exhorta. Would you mind if I used it?

Btw. Thanks for the suggestions Grond0 and Easymask. I think we are in danger of getting a little off topic though (totally my fault, sorry!). I'll set up another thread if I need more help picking a sorceress portrait.

Actually, it might not be a bad idea to have a sticky with links to actual individual good portraits. This is an area where Sturgeon's Law definitely applies.

The new SCS/SCS II v20 releases are definitely tempting me into a new run... The only problem is that I have a few no-reload characters who are "stuck" on v19, so I'll have to do something about them -- maybe I'll try to complete them without too much regard for the no-reload nature of their runs. In particular there's a Barbarian in BG2 (L23ish) I might be tempted to try to finish.

Anyway, I think my first new character in SCS/SCSII v20 is going to be a Sorceress. Playing with smarter mages/priests and with improved fiends has given me an appreciation for the perks of huge numbers of casts per day...

Vorn, cg male dwarf battlerager.

I enter the city and obtain a manual of dexterity. Then I drop into the sewers to deal with an ogre mage, and the Seven Suns to kill a quintet of doppelgangers.

Degrodel has his guardians removed one by one until I have both the helm and cloak of Balduran.

Ramazith escapes to the top of his tower, I have to rest after two levels but kill him on my return.

Marek, Lothander, Varci and Jalantha Mistmyr are next. Then I prepare myself for the Iron Throne HQ by glugging the top row of potions left to right.
Image IPB

I enter in a battlerage.
Image IPB

Casters first, Diyab.
Image IPB

Diyab is down, Aasim is next but Naaman and Alai are asking for attention.
Image IPB

Alai is the last to receive my attention.
Image IPB

Now for the rest, starting with Zhalimar Cloudewulfe and moving on to Gardush.
Image IPB

My battlerage expires and I decide to step back from Gardush and the doppelganger. There is just time to loot each corpse and cast two minor heal spells before I can get my second battlerage started. Gardush is soon dead and the doppelganger dies scared.

Thaldorn escapes and Duke Eltan sends me back to Candlekeep, but as I sleep outside the library that night I work out how to cast DUHM. I know I have to take a detour.

Mendas sends me on a mission, and I am shipwrecked on an island. I've soon agreed to help the villagers, and they ask if I have a golden girdle. No, why? oops

Battlerage and DUHM are enough to deal with Palin and his wolfweres.
Image IPB

Jondal and Kryla time their attack well, but I dodge until I get my second battlerage.

I rest in a hut while Dradeel wanders around. I return after DUHM battleraging the base of Baldurans ship, and rest again. I repeat this for the second level of the ship, and again for the third.

For the fourth level I buff heavily with potions and DUHM, adding battlerage as Karoug attacks.
Image IPB

I'm not hanging around today.
Image IPB

The pack collapse one by one, and I am out of the ship with DUHM and battlerage still active. I proudly hand a book over to Dradeel, only for him to throw the cookery book back in my face. I return with the correct book, and both buffs are still active. How quick was that fight?

DUHM expires as I leave the hut, the battlerage moments later. I glug a potion of regeneration to heal the trap injuries and return to the camp where I am attacked again, this time by a werewolf.

The camp erupts as I leave, but I choose not to fight and outrun them all. I charge through some caverns and within moments am fighting Kaishas Gan with my remaining battlerage. I manage two critical hits.
Image IPB

I do slightly less buffing before confronting Mendas.
Image IPB

Once Selaad is dead my lycanthropy is cured. Now, back to Candlekeep.

So much for cutting out the errors.  Raven #3 died at Ulgoth's Beard when I forgot that she had not been made invisible again after Dushai's death.  She tried to run too late and a MMM hit her in the act of leaving the area - the familiar bravely carrying the dead body for many miles before collapsing from exhaustion!

Raven #4 was the first to be killed by a wild surge - surprised it's taken so long.  Raven #5 survived 28 surges until she also perished - she summoned 3 lots of healing berries in the meantime, but they're worth very little.

To make up for the previous 2 the very first surge for Raven #6 produced a pocketful of gems.  I hope that's a good omen - unless something odd happens Raven #6 will be the last of this type of attempt, so I'll try and give her a good go.

Good luck with #6.

Vorn, cg male dwarf battlerager.

Candlekeep. I am framed for the murder of Rieltar and locked up until Tethtoril teleports me to the catacombs.

I buff heavily for saving throws, strength, speed, fire and electricity then raid the catacombs. Some tough decisions are made as my inventory overflows.

These four haven't prepared well enough.
Image IPB

I use a potion of mirrored eyes to kill a pair of basilisks, then emerge with two tomes, a ring of fire resistance and a scroll magic protection.

Back to the city. I battlerage Slythe and take his letters, then one-shot Cythandria and convince her to hand over the journal of Sarevok.

At the coronation I use a frost giant potion, an oil of speed, then cast DUHM and introduce myself.
Image IPB

I kill a few slimes, jellies and oozes then glug a potion of invisibility to sneak through the thieves maze. Rahvin and his gang don't notice me, then I use a scroll of protection from magic inside the temple.

My third arrow dispels against Sarevok, then I glug another invisibility potion to move away from him. Semaj has cast dispel magic so I prepare myself and move in to Angelo.
Image IPB

Semaj spirits away twice, and as I follow I am attacked by Tazok. I kill Semaj and start on Tazok.
Image IPB

Then Tazok hits me a couple of times and I have to run. A single arrow of biting stops him dead so I glug a potion of regeneration and decide not to let Sarevok within melee range.

About 100 arrows later.
Image IPB

I decide to celebrate by dealing with Rahvin before reporting back to Belt. As I expected, my buffs protect me from any spell or fire effects. I don't notice Carston's arrows doing insane damage until it is too late (last one flagged as a hit so even invisibility won't work). I glug a blue potion but it is a case of too little too late and their fiery party have the last laugh.

Back to the start when I decide what class next.

Good job on Sarevok; shame about the follow-up.  Arrows of explosion damage is easy to overlook when protected against elemental damage.  It looks like fire, but is coded differently - and mounts up pretty quickly on insane difficulty!

Cody the level 4 cleric/level 4 mage and fellow cleric/mages continue their adventures...

Cody is still alive. Paja, our level 4 cleric/level 4 mage with 15 HP and our 2nd line tank, she is amazingly still alive and unchunked as well. Once the party made level 3 cleric/level 3 mage I was brave enough to deal with the mines. I used mirror image for the first set of traps on the stone bridge. We then carefully walked around the 3 traps near the entrance to Mulahey's level. As for Mulahey himself - well with 2 commands, 2 hold persons and a blind incoming, he had no chance at all. We used entangle on his minions and dealt with them one at a time.

Time to deal with Nimbul the assassin - but again with 2 commands, 2 hold persons and a blind, he didn't stand a chance either.

We had some kind-of bad luck going to Ulcaster, we ran into the worst ambush possible:
Image IPB
We tried commands (which were saved against), but blindness took! After that was easy to sling the baslisk dead. We even ran into this ambush LEAVING Ulcaster. The 2nd time around we thought the better part of valor would be a good idea, and ran south. The baslisk only got one attack on Belle, who saved fortunately.

The party cleared the Tomb area, using different tactics than we have to date. For one, the room with the 3 ghasts NO ONE wore armor - the reason why is we were using magic missiles to kill the ghasts quickly. Well this worked, but Paja also died quickly. She's had an incredible amount of deaths this run. The amazon assassins, we had Paja creep under sanctuary -- we then used stinking cloud (no skeletons yet), hold person, blindess, entangle and then just slinged away - this allowed us to kill all the enemies, one by one safely.

As for the jellies - I wasn't sure we could take them, so once we killed the mage we used two charges of the monster summoning wand around the jellies. Then the party got into melee range - this worked beautifully, the party only had to heal once while killing the jellies.

The southern two rows of areas (except for Durlag's) is clear, except also the ogre river area, which is what the party is currently working on.

Valhyron, human cleric7/mage8 dual class (56 hp) on Werewolf Island:
Equipment he took with him:
Image IPB

First, Valhyron cleared the area outside the ship. Then, he cleared the ship itself. This time, it was not necessary to resort to melee – cleric/mage has LOTS of spells at his disposal. Thanks to wizard spell Invisibility and clerical spell Sanctuary, he could maneuver easily. Standard wolfweres were killed by Flame Arrows, Magic Missiles and Flamestrikes from Wand of Heavens.
Image IPB
Image IPB

Karoug was paralyzed and killed by bounced lightning bolts.
Image IPB

Loup Garous were killed by Flame Arrows, Magic Missiles, Flamestrikes and Lightning bolts – they seem to have lots of hitpoints.

Valhyron is currently traveling to dreaded Durlag’s Tower.

@Vaclavc.  Impressive stuff as always.  Best of luck in the Tower.

Raven #6 has successfully completed her preparatory adventures and is about to descend into the Nashkel mines.  Progress so far:
- Picked up the loot from Gorion's ambush and the diamond and then travelled to High Hedge and Beregost (didn't bother with invisibility as there are no ambushes that can hurt on that route).
- Marl gifted Algernon's cloak to Raven.
- Xzar and Montaron died to a wolf and left Raven their potions.
- Used invisibility to travel to Friendly Arm and pick up 2 rings and an ogre's belt for Raven to wear.
- No funny business this time from Khalid and Jaheira.  Both were charmed and killed by Tarnesh before Tarnesh was finished off by the guards.
- No mistake this time at Ulgoth's Beard where Dushai died quickly leaving Raven his ring.
- Picked up some more healing potions en route to Nashkel.
- In Nashkel Neira killed the charmed guard used as a decoy, but then quickly fell to the remainder.
- At the carnival Oopah killed Vitiare and Zordral and opened a shopkeeper's chest.  Then the guards summoned by the shopkeeper to investigate the robbery killed Oopah for me.  Raven bought the amulet of shielding and some potions.
- At the valley of tombs I wanted the invisibility potion from the revenant.  Can't do this by giving the dagger as that gives XP, but this time used a safer method than allowing the familiar to be attacked - a skeleton attacking the revenant and getting it out of the way while Raven looted the tombs.  The ghast tomb was done safely in a similar way - lured the ghasts to the end of the tomb with a skeleton and then grabbed the treasure and ran before they could react.  Two attempts were enough to charm Narcillicus and he became a victim of a ghast that had chased Raven out of the tomb.
- Went to get fire resistance ring and scroll magic protection from Samuel's area.
- Another scroll from Firewine Bridge was picked up after Bentan was killed by a skeleton.

As far as I remember the only wild surge so far (other than getting funds at the start) was when attempting to charm Algernon with a fetching lupine look.  That's not surprising given that so few spells have been cast - other than that charm I think just summoning the familiar and 3 Friends spells.  There was a surge on find familiar on a previous run - I think this is the 3rd time I've noted such a surge coming up as spell cast normally, so I presume this has been coded for.

Yes, amazing stuff V and good to see Raven #6 progressing.

Berric, TN human male shapeshifter.
BGT, fixpack, generalised biffing, insane difficulty.

I've had a tough struggle with Carbos and Shank, losing half my health.
Image IPB

Gorion dies during a night-time ambush, then I borrow equipment from Imoen, Xzar and Montaron.

Marl, Firebead and Noober have a lot to say. Level 2, +3hp.

Oublek puts in a good word for me and Berrun Ghastkill asks for my help. I decide Captain Brage should be helped first, then a chicken called Melicamp. A nearby wolf gets a dose of BAD wolf Bless, Armour of faith, Doom, shapeshift.

I forget to change back after grabbing a skull. Thalantyr asks if I've heard the joke about the chicken, the lycanthrope and the medium hadron collider. I'm lost for words but he replies by turning Melicamp back into human form. Level 3, +5hp.

Melicamp has taught me a lot. So much so that returning a letter to Mirianne, a ring to Joia and Samuel to the Temple of Wisdom are easy to achieve. Level 4, +8hp.

A belted ogre is my final target before descending into Nashkel mine. A few kobolds are present, and I kill a dozen or so before a critical hit forces me to retreat. 24 human hp or 28 lycanthrope isn't enough to get across the insane trapped bridge either.

I run the ankheg gauntlet before doing some zombie farming instead. Then I return Rufie to Albert and help a hamadryad save her tree. Level 5, +2HP.

Two dire wolves and a winter wolf fail to stop me returning a drowned cat to Drienne. I cast barkskin and armour of faith to deal with Gnarl and Hairtooth. Their bracers won't help me while shifted but could be useful when casting.

Arghain is next, despite my buffs and doom he hits me. I find I can rush him and retreat before he can react, so kill him this way instead. A group of fortifying half-ogres beat me up so I return with call lightning memorised. Two strikes kill one, and I charm a war dog before clawing a second to pieces. A third is also clawed, then I buff to finish the fourth.

Next I charm Zargal and let him kill Geltik. Who can he annoy next?
Image IPB

Now there are two to kill.
Image IPB

They are easy picking so I return for Malkax, and scare him. I chase him into three more hobgoblins and a ghast. I try for one last hit but this backfires and I'm left clinging on to life as I run away thought that was game over.
Image IPB

The reward for Bassilus is enormous level 5, 29hp or 35 shifted so I can think about returning to Nashkel mine.

@ V. Thanks for the pic. That's an interesting one. Good luck in The Tower.

@ AH. I agree that Sturgeon's Law applies to portraits. But I suspect the "one man's trash" principle does as well...

I'll definitely be on the lookout for your sorcerer. I'm intrigued by the idea of doing a classic sorceress no reload in SCS-Ascension because I suspect it will be harder rather then easier then the warriors and thieves I've been running recently. Arcane characters are overpowered in vanilla no doubt (and the F/M M/T variants remain monstrous in SCS) but I suspect that a classic sorceress could get tricky at certain key stages.

Which infinite spell avenue do you intend to persue? Alanis was built as a wisher but I intend to setup my new sorceress, Alicia, as a looper with low level refresh via Limited Wish.
