Silence 15' Radius invokes a save penalty of 5, making their chances of saving as follows:
Zeela = 1 - (14+5)/20 = 5%
Lamalha = 1 - (12+5/20) = 15%

You only have to match the saving throw required to succeed (not beat it) so Zeela would have a 10% chance of success and Lamalha 20% - meaning the chance of both failing is 90% x 80% = 72%.

On top of that, I then am counting on disabling one (or both) of the ranged attackers with Hold Person.  Since the two are more than 5' apart, only one is possible.
Telka Save vs. Spell: 11
Maneira Save vs. Spell: 11
Probability of one failing her save: 9/20 = 45%

The chance of each failing her save is 50%, but the chance of at least one of them failing is 75% (chance of both succeeding is 50% x 50% = 25%).

Your chance of getting at least as beneficial a result as you got would therefore be 72% x 75% = 54%, so you weren't that lucky in that individual fight.  However, accepting a roughly 50/50 chance of success regularly isn't going to lead to much success in a no-reload attemptImage IPB.

Congratulations Vaclavc - are you continuing onto into Amn? I am curious what your character could do solo there.

Ah, learned something new -- I thought you had to beat the throw. Thank you.

Still, as the archers are more than 5' apart, I can only target one with the single Hold Person spell, so it's 72% * 50% = 36%. Oddly enough, the same result. And as you say, even 50/50 isn't a good idea for a no-reload game. :)

Sarevok must be getting fed up of summons. Well done all.

Berric, TN human male shapeshifter.

There are two traps on the Nashkel mine bridge 16 then 10 damage.

A pair of spiders and several kobolds are next, then I rest outside the centre of the mine. I kill three kobolds and charm a fourth. Good luck little fella.
Image IPB

He lasts long enough for me to summon some insects and transform to defend myself.
Image IPB

Mulahey is a determined caster and I'm lucky to resist his charm **edit, hold even**.
Image IPB

I manage to get to him by feinting right then returning left.
Image IPB

His next four spells are disrupted and he runs away in terror. We chase around, both blocked by minions. Eventually he escapes and I have to fight my way out. This requires one healing spell and three blue potions. Then I return to human form and buff.

He is almost dead, and misses with his warhammer. This allows me to summon more insects and then shapeshift to finish him off.
Image IPB

Edit, add a bit more.

After killing Mulahey I have to deal with two oozes before returning to Nashkel. I charm a peasant, but Nimbul allows me time to call lightning.
Image IPB

Algernon takes two sets of magic missiles, allowing me time to get two sets of insects in, adding a third after his death and shapeshifting to finish Tranzig off the traditional way.

Cody and his band of cleric/mages continue their adventure...

A lot of fighting in Ankheg country. It goes slow as we can only loot two shells, return to Beregost to sell, go to FAI to rest return and hunt more ankhegs, etc. Paja's luck finally ran out, she got one-shotted by an Ankheg. But some miracle of miracles she still is not chunked (I suspect if I was playing insane she would have been chunked ages ago -- if I had it over to do again I would have sacrificed WIS instead of CON but oh well).

We did this repeatedly to get our cash flow up, but our luck finally ran out in another way - twice we got hit with the large bandit ambush, once with gibberlings and once with wardogs. Now, at this point in the game, our party is well equipped, both in terms of armor and spells, so it wasn't like the run was going to end -- however, Paja wasn't wearing her armor since she was lugging an ankheg shell and died - had to leave the shell behind and it took THREE party members just to carry her equipment.

We sided against Sonner to help the "girl" who lost her mother and bowl. We also took care of a zombie problem at a local farm. Cash was good enough, time to head to Ulgoth's Beard. But before I shopped, I considered - that free action ring of Dushai sure would be handy, especially as the Cloakwood is next. Last time I tried like 30 times to charm her with the cloak of Algernon but failed (Algernon was charmed via charm person spell and had him attack Tranzig is how we got the cloak with no thief/bard) - amazingling we charmed her first attempt. We took a play out of Grond0's book and moved up to the top corner so no one can "see" what's about to happen next - she only had 2 webs she can cast! Useless..., so we just attacked her at once. As expected she didnt' have a lot of HP and fortunately no rep hit. Free Action ring went to Hanna.

In the local store, got the robe of displacement for Paja (she's the only one who ever dies to arrows). Wand of heavens looks useful for the ambushes, so Cody got that for himself. Greenstone amulet seems unnecessary in an all-caster group.

We headed to FAI, stocked up on heal potions/antidotes and the first area of the Cloakwood will be our first target. We will be happy to finish the cloakwood so we could finally recruit our last party member (Quayle).

Cody and his band of cleric/mages continue their adventure...Cloakwood Forest, 1st Area

The party survives the first Cloakwood Area. After helping Aldeth, the entire party except for Paja leveled to 6 cleric. Poor Paja with all her deaths has missed out a lot of experience, so she didn't level. She just needs 500 experience, though so not too bad. We had skeleton distractions, magic missiled the druid leader dead, and the others were caught with a few hold persons.

For most encounters, Hanna and Paja wear their cleric armor (somebody has to tank the wyverns when we get there).

Seniyad Defeated
Image IPB

The party needs a whopping 120,000 experience to get to mage level 6. While I do believe we can get that before the end of the game, I am somewhat suspect of making it to level 7 mage -- that's OK though as Sarevok will have an enormous amount ot summons to wade through, so shouldn't need level 7 for anything.

Congratulations on completions of the BG1 parts Vaclavc and Easymask, I do hope to see your Cleric/Mage pop up in the BG2 thread at some point, Vaclavc! :wizard:

With luck some of the current Cleric/Mages drops by Amn before my own reaches the time to step there.

You can make it - there is plenty of XP available once you reach Baldur's Gate. I strongly recommend reaching level 7 in wizardry - it gives you access to some crucial 4th level spells such as Minor globe of invulnerability and Greater malison.
4th level cleric spells are also handy - think of Protection from Evil, 10' Radius and Protection from Lightning.

Yes, I plan to take him into SoA. Valhyron is only my third character that successfully finished solo insane challenge including expansion areas, so he definitely earned the right to continue.
I am also interested in how his performance will change. In BG1, he was basically overpowered cleric/mage  - one mage level above multiclass and more hitpoints. In SoA, he should become full time mage capable of reaching level 31 with minor clerical powers and wider selection of weapons and armor.

At the palace Raven saved both the dukes, but failed in her attempt to accumulate no XP when she was forced into killing one of the greater dopplegangers.  Thinking about it after the event I probably wasn't actually using the safest strategy, though I don't think there is a really safe strategy for that fight. I'll post some details once I've got a bit more time.

This seems like a long time ago now, but I'll provide a few more details in case anyone's interested.  As a first level character Raven would have very little chance in a fair fight with the greater dopplegangers:
- can't use summons as they will get confused almost immediately by the dopplegangers attack (and if they then attack the dukes or the Flaming Fist that equals death);
- horror and glitterdust would offer some hope, but the dopplegangers have pretty good saving throws, so you would need to be lucky to turn the tide of battle like that.
- running round with dopplegangers after you and using Algernon's cloak is also a possible strategy, but the difficulty is again in avoiding any of the charmed dopplegangers getting into combat and being confused.  If you're unlucky it's also amazing how quickly Belt and Liia can die under the attack of even a couple of the greater dopplegangers, so there's a risk of failure even if your strategy appears to work perfectly.

Hence I decided to lure the dopplegangers upstairs (after using a glitterdust scroll initially to try and grab their attention).  Also used potions of clarity (to protect against horror and charm) and speed at the start of the combat (switched to a scroll of magic protection after potion ran out).  Two dopples followed her upstairs initially, where she used some summoned monsters as distraction while charming one of them to try and get it killed by the other, but it got confused and ran away.  Going back downstairs she tried once and failed to pick up more.  Second time she got one and used it to kill the previously charmed one, before charming it in turn.

Third time down she used a horror scroll.  All the remaining dopples saved, but 2 more followed her upstairs.  Unfortunately their attacks confused each other and they ran away to different levels.  The charmed one went back downstairs - where it couldn't be left alone because of the danger of it attacking the Fist.  Therefore Raven decided to attack it to turn it hostile again.  I knew it was at near death, but used a sling anyway because I was concerned about it retaliating too quickly to dodge if using fists in close combat.  Raven needs 17 THAC0 and I thought it was unlikely the damage from the sling would kill even if it did hit.  However, I was wrong - the sling hit and the 3 HP damage was all it needed to die and provide her with 4,000 XP.

When I originally decided on strategy I didn't realise that confused dopplegangers would run between areas (though that is regular behaviour for scared creatures, so I probably should have done).  However, once I had observed this behaviour once I should definitely have changed tactics.  I think the following would have been the safest route to a no XP completion:
- lure all the dopplegangers upstairs and charm them and then bring them down one at a time for the guards to finish (can help out a bit with that when no danger of landing the killing blow).
- need to make sure on coming down that you keep the dopplegangers away from the guards before attacking to turn them hostile again.

As the original concept for the wild mage was level 1, rather than specifically 0 XP (though I was trying for the latter) I thought I would carry on the run and see if I could finish it off (still keeping at 1st level).  The palace fight was finished off by dragging the remaining dopples down one by one for Belt and co. to finish off (gave him a couple of Bhaal healings as well).  Liia also survived.

Once Sarevok had fled Raven used a potion of invisibility to clear the maze of traps while scroll of magic protection was still active (just in case I get a bit careless and forget to dodge the traps on her way home).  Charmed Rahvin at the 3rd attempt (using familiar invisibility and resting between each attempt) and then charmed the rest of the Undercity party.  Tried to recruit Tamoko as well, but she appeared to be immune to charm and went hostile.  She saved a command and the first two blindness spells, but failed against the third and was left alone.  The group is now standing outside the temple.

The bandit camp. I charm a bandit and a hobgoblin, then start calling lightning as others approach.

One more for luck.
Image IPB

Lightning accounts for a few more bandits and after a rest I doomcharm Taugosz Khosann. He deals with one bandit and Credus before turning hostile again and forcing me to leave.

On my return I call lightning twice, but have to leave again. Same for my next visit. On my next attempt I cast entangle, doom and two lightning strikes.

I rest and head inside the main bandit tent. Venkt saves my charm, and Melfs me. I head outside, chased away from the camp yet again.

New Character
I have just played three paladins who died very quickly so have not posted them. All died as a result of hold or sleep. As you see, my current character is of the sub-race Air Genasi who can cast "Freedom of action once a day. She is already Level 6 which is a good start.
Diary of Rajkumari
The Air Genasi Cavalier
GENASI: Genasi are descended from elemental-related creatures, such as efreet, dao, djinn,
jann, and marids, among others. Most of them have had no direct contact with their elemental
forebears, but the signs of their heritage are apparent. Genasi take great pride in their
distinctive features and abilities.
- ADVANTAGES: Infravision.
- DISADVANTAGES: -10% experience modifier.

Different genasi also have their own racial advantages and disadvantages:
- AIR GENASI: +1 to Dexterity and Intelligence, -1 to Wisdom and Charisma, Breathless
(immunity to spells like stinking cloud), and Free Action 1/day.

Two-handed Weapons ** Quarterstaff **
Day 4
When in Candlekeep I was attacked by assassins and on the body of one of one of them I found a staff and a ring. However what they do, I don’t know. Perhaps I will be able to find somebody to identify them for me later. I strongly suspect that the assassin stole them from Firebead, but will only discover the truth later.
Gorion and I were ambushed outside Candlekeep, Gorion being killed. I therefore followed his instructions and fled to the Friendly Arms Inn. On arrival, I discovered that the evil Tarnesh was there and so headed northwards, helping Leila and Tenya on the way. My level increased as a result. I am hoping that news of this will put other assassins off my scent as I now intend to double back and head for Nashkel.
Day 8
On arrival in Nashkel I discovered that when I took off the ring, my charisma had dropped right down to one! Clearly this is the judgement of Tyr who I serve. I therefore begged his forgiveness and promised to return them next time I met Firebead. Almost immediately I was given an almost identical ring by Lord Foreshadow. This gives me hope that if I return the possessions, mercy will be available to me. I then met a rather obnoxious but well-meaning guy called Noober and then was able to help Mrs. Blackwood.
I then set of to Beregost in search of Firebead. Upon meeting him, I was able to help him by getting a book for him. I was too embarrassed to give him his possessions, so just put them in his chest. You can imagine my amazement when my charisma had shot up higher than it has ever been. Surely Tyr is just! I calmed down Marl and helped the Blackwood family to stop quarrelling. My reputation and level both increased as a result. I then came across some spiders which I killed.
Day 14
Heading north, I killed an ogre who was carrying two belts. (Perhaps he was into S & M :D ) Upon reaching the Friendly Arms I returned Joia’s ring and killed Tarnesh. I was lucky to survive as he cast sleep. Fortunately I was unaffected by it and he died. I had to sleep a number of times in order to recover, and whilst doing so gained the ability to heal myself. I went inside and gave Landrin his possessions, gaining gold and some potions to heal poison. They aren’t much use to me, but I can sell them. Khalid and Jaheira joined me and suggested that I arrange for Gorion’s Burial. This I did, and we then headed to Nashkel at their request. I left them there to do whatever they felt needed doing, as I have been asked to do various other things, not least to help a man regain some backbone.

Day 23
Helped the man who was a bit spineless and in the process killed the assassin Karlat.
( I tried to lure him outside so that I could get him to kill Algernon, but the SCS script won’t allow it. I realised that the same was true of the Silke script so just went along with it and killed her. She hurt me considerably due to not having bought a shield amulet. Clearly to get Algernon killed, I will have to use spiders. Unfortunately they are all dead! )
I then killed Silke when she attacked me and then went looking for Gurke’s Cloak. When I found it he didn’t want it. I then went hunting half-ogres. They gave me few problems. The same could not be said of the ettercaps that ambushed me. They hurt me badly despite having freedom of action cast on me. However both parties that ambushed me died.
Day 26
I saved Prism from Greywolf, though had to use all my healing potions to do it.
Day 28
I went to Ulgoth’s Beard to buy some equipment and was asked to recover a dagger from Durlag’s Tower.
Day 32
I helped Albert and his dog.
Day 33
I helped a Dryad in the Cloudpeak mountains and a cat that had died in a waterfall.
Day 37
I killed some worgs that had trapped a boy in a lighthouse and recovered some treasure from a cave. As a result, I became a level 6 paladin.
Day 38
I helped an archaeologist and restored Brage to a right frame of mind.
Day 42
I killed an Ankheg that had eaten a dagger amongst other things. The shell is being made into a suit of armour.
Day 44
I killed Bassilus after a long arduous battle during which he hurt me badly. He cast sanctuary to heal himself, so I used the respite to heal myself, which was just as well, as he then cast a spell that would have otherwise have killed me. He tried to use “hold person” again and again, but the “freedom of action” spell that I had cast negated that.
Day 45
I went to collect the reward for killing Bassilus, and whilst in the area came across Wolves, Dread Wolves, Vampiric Wolves, Hobgoblins and the like. It was well that I was not injured before the fight, for, despite using healing potions, I had to flee having been reduced to only 8 health points. I did however kill the vampiric wolves, so that now I am fully recovered, I will be able to kill the rest of them.
Day 46
The rest of the wolves including dread Wolves were indeed easy to deal with,
Day 49
I headed east and ran into a bunch of psychopaths. I ran but upon trying to fight them was badly hurt. I returned after healing and only found two of them. After killing them I again needed healing. What made it worse was that I needed to use two charges of my Greenstone Amulet to do that. ( I obviously did this battle a little too early)

That’s a bit harsh! How about something useful that takes advantage of his high intelligence… Wouldn’t an innate spell like ‘Wraith Form’ or ‘Blur’ be a good example of the air realm?

Best of luck to you Wise.

Raven failed in her assault on the temple. She wasn't actually killed, but had already got another 4,000 XP for killing a skeleton warrior (tried to turn Carston hostile just before he killed it, but got the timing wrong). Sarevok still had Semaj and Tazok in support and as Raven was down to her last 2 invisibility potions she would almost certainly have soon had to resort to resting in the temple. Instead of doing that and probably acquiring yet more XP I decided to let her retire gracefully.

Are you getting XP when neutral kill foes? I'm pretty sure that in vanilla at least, you only get XP if your party members (or summoned creatures) do the deed.

Greetings yet again everyone!
With all the recent deaths in Amn - I decided to make a party I really think can make it through the trilogy(like all my other parties, pretty much :P).

One thing I was really tired of, was backstabs & Maze - so the party has a Barbarian. Next, I didn't want my mage PC to be so fragile - thus he's a True class Fighter to be dualed to Mage. My favorite thief in the series is Yoshimo, thus this time I've got a Bounty Hunter with me - and last but not least, I wanted both a Cleric and a Mage but only 4 characters, so I brought a Mage/Cleric.

Introducing:
Ardain the Human Fighter
Carnak the Half-Orc Barbarian
Arya(Yes, named after the girl from Game of Thrones!) the Human Bounty Hunter
Nidon the Half-Elf Cleric/Mage

So far I've just been enjoying their progress through the realm(though Bassilus almost ended the journey way too early!). It's a really nice party, and I'm loving how Arya's traps can turn a difficult encounter into a trivial one(like this fight with Drizzt).

I have done a complete reinstall of the EasyTuTu and the mods I've been using, so here's the complete list henceforth:
EasyTuTu
EasyTuTu Hotfixes
SCS (pretty much everything installed, BG2 Spells, improved everything(Doppelgangers! Nooooo!) except Bears, Spiders and Dogs)
BG2Tweaks(I especially *love* the one that changes the characters apperance if he wears a robe instead of a plate mail and vice versa!)

Reaching a good experience level, we braved the mines and slew Mulahey. The fight was very easy, as he failed his save against Arya's improved trap - thus rendering him slowed and very killable.

Next we fought against Drizzt, and Carnak earned himself a couple of Scimitars and a new Chain Mail(at the cost of 10 rep points though!)

It was time we dealt with Tranzig, and Carnak decided to do so by himself. His new gear allowed him to oblitorate Tranzig in a matter of seconds.

As we left the Feldpost Inn, Lamahla and her Amazons attacked(I didn't know they could in the middle of Beregost!). Arya and Ardain both got hit with backstabs - but other than that the fight was easily won - as every enemy spell was interrupted by either an Arrow, Spell or Scimitar.

Next was the Bandit Camp - and the battle fought there was insanity itself. Two potions of Firebreath, 5 Traps, a Skull Trap, 2 Charges from the Necklace of Missiles and 2 Charges from the Wand of Fire was not enough to kill the HUGE group that attacked us! After getting hit by a slow spell, Nidon bit the dust(only for the moment luckily) and the party fled to the Friendly Arm to rest up and raise Nidon.

As we returned to the Bandit Camp, it was a quick and quite easy battle against the remaining Bandits.
Looks like we're headed to Cloakwood next!

(I was going to try soloing a Cavalier next, but decided I wanted to give this group a go first. I also need to pick up Eliphas' journey in Amn too, which I probably will if this party fails.)

Cody and his band of cleric/mages continue their adventures...

Most of the cloakwood proceeded without incident. However there was an EXTREMELY close call, in the 3rd or 4th Cloakwood area, Cody got targeted by a phase spider and got hit - phase spider poison is POWERFUL in only two ticks it did the following:
Image IPB
FORTUNATELY, his aura was clear and clicked a elixar of health and it saved him. His party members destroyed that pesky phase spider.

Next up was Drasus and his buddies. We didn't do fog of war, we just walked right up to them and unloaded. We did things like silence x2 stinking cloud, web...this was just too much for the enemies. Drasus tried to engage us in hand-to-hand but he got held as well as he got attacked by two of his fellow guards (they were charmed just before the battle).

We had to rest and resupply, then we returned, but it crashed while clearing the mine surface area, so we had to do it again. The interior of the mines were cleared mostly without incident. One thing though is that we did not meet Heirashan by the front door - we used the secret passageway with the ghasts, then summoned skeletons and sent them toward Heirashan. She fired a lightning bolt, which missed us but killed herself and several of her guards. The guards were clumping thanks to the skeletons so we used a few hold persons and the room was cleared easily.

Yeslick will join us on RP grounds. I never like flooding the mines with him in here. Good thing he did, as one of the battle horrors killed Belle. We sent skeletons and Yeslick after Davaeorn and they managed to kill him.

Davaeron defeated

We will soon be in Baldur's Gate to pick up our last party member, Quayle.

UPDATE: Tiela F HE Cleric/Ranger

Tiela's streak of luck continues.  I've decided that Tymora must be the god she worships, as her mistakes would have killed any of my previous attempts.

After last time, he, Xan, and Kivan headed into Beregost.  Karlat and Silke fell quickly without incident.  Tranzig offed Algernon, and fell after planting a few Magic Missiles into Tiela, but nothing substantial.

Working back to the Lion's Way, the map was cleared without incident.  At this point, the Bandit Camp was available, and Tiela (as usual) charged straight ahead for it (approximately Cleric 4/Ranger 3).

Having most challenge attempts fail prior to reaching the bandit camp (although frequently reaching higher levels),  the plan was simple: Remove Fear on the party and Armor on Xan, then charge the camp, carrying about six or so Sleep and Charm Person spells to deal with the exterior residents.

Mistake #1:  Forgot the plan.  She forgot to cast Remove Fear (more on this later).
Mistake #2:  Didn't check the inventory.  Started the battle with a mere 1 Antidote and 2 Healing Potions (more on this later, as well).

The initial battle went well enough.  Xan managed to Charm Crush and even with the short duration, he helped kill off his own buddies.
Image IPB
Crush joins the team on Flickr

Taugosz presented a greater challenge.  He has archer support (and more of them), and despite preparing for the archers ( Girdle of Piercing / Boots of Avoidance / Medium Shield +1 ), there were enough to get critical hits on Tiela (the tank) in addition to Taugosz's general peskiness.

In the end, Xan managed to sleep a few of the archers (spread too far apart for general "take-em-all-out in one spell" strategy), and then elected to use the first charge on Algernon's cloak (I try not to use the cloak as much as possible), with positive effect.
Image IPB
Taugosz helps out on Flickr

It was at this point they were aware of the scarceness of potions of healing.  Still, with Taugosz charmed, Tiela used her few Cure Light Wounds spells to get back to a manageable health and formed a new plan: draw the tent occupants outside, where Taugosz could assist.

The (newly modified) plan seemed to be working: she stuck her head in the tent, yelled a few obscenities, and then darted back outside.  Britik and Venkt took the bait, and were quickly killed by Taugosz and Tiera with ranged support from Xan and Kivan.

Deciding we would have to rush the mage and archer in the tent, the three heroes rushed the tent, in an attempt for Tiera to close range on Hakt (the archer) while the other two pestered Venkt (the caster) with arrows and throwing knives.  The plan went for naught, though, as Venkt immediately cast horror and all three failed their saves:
Image IPB
Tiela is horrified in the tent on Flickr

It was at this point that I was certain of their doom.   I had no control of anyone, Xan was poisoned, the other two had Acid Arrow eating their hit points, and it was merely a matter of time until the enemy picked off everyone, while the party ran around in panic.

However, in his panic, Xan ran by Hakt, who stupidly changed from bow to sword, giving a chance to fight another day.  Hakt just couldn't quite stay in swinging range of the fleeing elf, the wizard didn't have the firepower to finish off anyone else, and horror wore off just as Xan was reaching his last few hit points.

At this point, Tiela discovered she was out of antidotes, and down to only two healing potions.  Badly hurt, she ordered the party back outside, and this time the other two followed.  Tiela drank one of the two healing potions, Xan drank the other (leaving him with a few more rounds before poison killed him), and the battle continued anew outside.

Taugosz was still charmed, and easily engaged Hakt and Venkt.  Kivan backed to range and started range assist.  Tiera also fell back, and used her sling (too few hit points to melee).  Xan ran from corpse to corpse, and found a healing potion on one of them which was just enough to keep him alive until the poison finally wore off.

Lucky, indeed.  I've played a fair amount into the Cloakwood at this point, but that's the topic for another post: this one is long enough as it is.

Hope your luck can hold After5CST - it's rare a party survives when everyone is under horror.

Are you getting XP when neutral kill foes? I'm pretty sure that in vanilla at least, you only get XP if your party members (or summoned creatures) do the deed.

No XP when neutrals kill them, but XP is awarded if the neutrals are on your side (turned green, e.g. by charming).  I can't remember if that's changed since vanilla.

By the way you posted a while ago about a poverty challenge.  What rules were you envisaging for that?  A mage restricted to level 1 spells because they can't pick up a scroll would still be conceivable as a no-reload, but pretty unlikely to succeed.  If higher level spells are available that's a much more achievable challenge.

I think poverty has generally meant "ditch all start items" and "don't pick up any items of any kind"... which basically makes it impossible for anyone except Sorcerer.

EDIT: I should say, on a different forum/different game someone posted an interesting one: Any given equipment slot can only be filled once. That is, once you've picked up a weapon, that's it -- you can never pick up anything that fills that slot. Same with amulet slot, ring slots, etc. I'm not sure this is doable by any class other than Sorcerer, but it might make an interesting experiment. (Of course, having free reign of the inventory means mages might also be in the running, but...)

Monk? Possibly druid e.g. shapeshifter or even cleric?

I don't want to be too categorical, but I don't think a monk could ever get through a no-reload without potions (items). The BG1 portion is clearly the most dangerous, but a monk without items can at most attain 78%+5%=83% MR (SoA+WK) and 93% MR in ToB, but I don't think that would be sufficient given the number of saves/MR checks you have to make.

Imp. Invis. and Hide in Shadows (w/Cloak of Non-detection) can help a lot, but there are plenty enemies who see through Invisibility.

With improved fiends from SCS or aTweaks it would definitely be impossible since their Fear effect (and probably other effects) goes straight through MR.

Not sure about druids/clerics, but I don't think it's feasible.

Berric, TN human male shapeshifter.

Back to the bandit camp. I almost walk into Venkt and Britik outside the main tent. I cast entangle, then send insects over to Venkt. Three sets are enough for me to stand and watch him expire.

I fail to charm Britik n.b. all charms are spells not Algernon's cloak but manage it on my second attempt. He's up against Hakt so I doom one and barkskin the other.

Britik kills Hakt but is poisoned and dies. My backpack is full so I sell and stash at Beregost before buffing and entering the tent once more. I doom Raemon, then shapeshift to kill him. I take more damage from a lightning trap, despite my boots grounding.

The next area of Cloakwood sees spiders and ettercaps facing my wolves, a woodland nymph and lightning strikes.

Further on my summons distract a hamadryad until I can shapeshift and eliminate her.

Drasus and his gang are next. My summons occupy them, and I charm Drasus. I step too close and a horror spell takes effect. We wander around aimlessly, until I recover to finish Genthore with lightning and then escape as Drasus chases me away.

I return and manage to deal with Drasus, then I become over-confident on the assumption that both mages are out of spells. There is nothing I can do but await the inevitable.

That poison sure is a thriller at times, isn't it Corey! Phew!

My condolences to you Gate70. I've been following your progress in hope that you would make it, as I find the Shapeshifter kit for Druids very interesting indeed. A shame it ended there, but I'm sure you'll come back stronger than ever! :)

And without further adeu: Ardain & Party Final update

We made our way deep into the Nashkel Mines, after easily dealing with Drasus' improved party(traps killed Drasus outright, the rest was just mopping up the remains), and assaulted Davaeorn. I had placed four traps(two special, two regular) in the room with the one Guard before I attempted to pull the Doom Guards. Unfortunatley they didn't move at all, but Davaeorn teleported to the upper left corner of his room. "Great!" I thought, maybe I could get the Doomguards pulled without any chance og getting him as well. The next thing I know, Davaeorn teleports into the trap filled "safety" room, and is slain almost outright. Lucky!

Moving on to Baldurs Gate, claiming all the items and experience we wanted before entering the Iron Throne headquarters. There are more acolytes than I am used to(I'm playing with every improved encounter this time around), so I sneak by into one of the back rooms to prepare some traps and summon some skeletons & Ogres. Things go well, and we defend our room untill their last man. The Barbarian has proven his worth many times over with the Backstab Immunity for sure.

Image IPB

Next on the to-do list is the Candlekeep Catacomps Squad. I was hoping to ambush them like I have in the past, but this time my Skeletons triggered them, and everything went to hell.

At one point I was starting to think that this would be the end for the party, but we managed a victory in the end.

Image IPB

Slythe and Krystin where next - but that battle proved to be just as easy as before. Slythe was stealthing a bit more, but focusing his attacks on Carnak the Barbarian. That didn't go to well for him.

Image IPB

Krystin soon followed her lover/partner, and the party moved on to the Duchal Palace(Improved Doppelgangers time, this is going to be tricky!)

In reality, it was not. Quite trivial encounter actually, as I had prepared a Dispel Magic to be cast right after the speach ended. None of my characters confused and none of the NPC's confused(except Belt actually). Edit: Also worth to mention that I had 2 Special Traps and 2 Normal Traps planted - the slow effect really does make a difference.

Image IPB

Not long after, all the Greater Doppelgangers where dead while Belt and his lady Duchess friend where still alive and kicking.

About time to give Sarevok a run for his money then!

I haven't had any of these improved encounters active before, so it's been quite the journey for me. The game is harder for sure, but I do believe I understood what needed to be done quickly enough to survive the encounters.

Planning to use the same strategy as always, I buffed up like I usually do - put traps where Semaj usually teleports to and had Arya go pick up Sarevok. Well, this encounter was obviously different than the previous once I've had. For some reason I could not hurt Sarevok at all. I tried dispelling with at least 10-20 Arrows of Dispelling, thinking maybe he had something I could remove on him. After Tazok got killed by Carnak, I noticed something very different - and from what Sarevok said I understood that I had to kill all his pets before I could take on the big boss himself.

The party killed Semaj while Carnak tanked Sarevok and the Skeleton Warrior(Angelo had fled to some other place, so I decided to leave him be for a bit). Damage was adding up, so I decided to give everyone potions of invisibility and lure Diarmid and Sarevok behind a pillar so I could get my health back up and kill the two Skeleton Warriors in peace. That worked like a charm, and after the clearing the two undead - it was time to pull Diarmid. I managed to get Diamid after Carnak while Sarevok chased after Nidon. Nidon didn't have any Invisibility spells left or potions of invisibility - so I had to haste Ardain with a potion to sprint over and toss him a potion of invis.

Soon Diarmid was dead, and now we had to look for Angelo. He was hiding in the upper right corner(Sarevok was parked to the upper left) - so pulling him went quite well. Unfortunatley he went invis at one point, and went to hang out with Sarevok. Arya went to go dispel arrow pull him, but managed to get confused before she got the chance. Sarevok took the opportunity to kill her, but luckily Angelo wanted to play with the rest of us instead. A partner for a partner then, it seemed - as Angelo and Arya both died.

With only Sarevok left, the party went to pull him and Carnak tanked him perfectly. The damage was too much too fast for the poor villain, and soon the party emerged victorious!

What a blast! All those improved mods sure did mix things up a bit, and not knowing exactly what was going to happen next really added a lot of flavour to the run.

I'll be seeing you guys in Amn! ;)

Edit: Would also like to mention that this must be my cleanest run to date. Only one death(Arya vs Sarevok) - even though I took some chances every once in a while. I had a lot of fun with this party, and I hope I will in Amn as well!
