Alright ladies and gents, i come to you with the 3rd part of Alexander's epic adventure.

Things went well for the good guys this time around. For awhile, too well. You know that feeling, sort of like the calm before the storm, right?

But here's a journal excerpt from the man, the legend himself :

"Calm before the storm.. that's exactly how i felt after i smashed through the rest of the sword coast. Venturing into Cloakwood forest, it was like a walk in the park. Hamadryad was powerless to stop us. The rest of the baddies lurking about there performed even worse. Suddenly, the pieces began to fall in place, as me and my 5 friends were starting to become a force to be reckoned with!

Posted Image

Imoen decided that her intelligence is too great (i laughed on the inside when she told me this but i didn't wanna break the poor girl's heart) and should be used to it's full potential. As a result, she retired her lockpicks and arrows for awhile and specialized into a mage. With Edwin as her mentor, this could actually prove to be a fruitful endeavor for her and for the whole party. Edwin already expressed his interest in her, but i fear it may be for all the wrong reasons. The Thayvian clown has a Pink Fetish!! Nevertheless, his personality aside, he is an outstanding spellcaster and the reason i chose him over, say, Dynaheir.

But i digress.

So, with Imoen not being able to help the party with her thieving skills for the time being, i had to quickly find a replacement, before a random trap would be the doom of us. Fate works in mysterious ways, as just moments after her metamorphosis, we stumble upon Coran. To describe Coran briefly, i could say that his outstanding archery and thieving skills are only matched by his man whoring.
But who am i to judge.. the only action i've seen during my stay in Candlekeep was defiling a pair of Imoen's pink panties. She still doesn't have a clue. Ahh.. the simple teenage years..

Stay focused Alex.

Bad luck for Kivan, as he was now made redundant by Coran. But let's face it, we were all one sob Deheriana story away from commiting seppuku. So goodbye, and good riddance for now.

Since we ran out of ammo just as we drew near the Cloakwood mines, we had to backtrack and resupply. I also made the call to grow a little bit stronger and experienced before we face what would most likely be our biggest challenge yet. The Iron Throne elite guards inside the mines.

First off, we explore the seaside area of the western Sword Coast shore. Minsc manages to forget for a second the grief he feels because of Dynaheir's passing, when he falls for a lovely Sirine. Sadly, their romance ended quicker than Kim Kardashian's marriage (i had a little gossip with the Diviner in the area), as she literally took his breath away.. hehe. Probably shouldn't laugh, it's bad karma to laugh when a party member dies. But we quickly settled things around with the deathly charming lass, she revived our brutish friend and in turn we slayed her captor, an evil ogre mage (aren't they all though).

Posted Image

And speaking of ogre mages. Remember that feeling i told you about earlier, about the calm before the storm?

Well the storm was coming my friends! After we make our way into Ulcaster, and manage to slay both Icharyd and the Wolf without much hassle, we eventually end up in Firewine Bridge. Not much going on around here. Apart from the fact that Coran fell in love with a girl that turned out to be a soul sucking demon! (literally, not figuratively, since they are all figurative soul sucking demons, or so Coran says). But we quickly dispatch her back to the abyss she came from.

Viconia explained to me that i was charmed during the battle, and she had to cast a spell to Hold me in place, otherwise she feared i would have killed her. I have no such recollection of this occuring, but i would never harm this ebony beauty. In fact, i think i'm starting to develop feelings for her.. but i cannot let myself be distracted, need to remember all the lessons i've been taught in Candlekeep and stick to the righteous path. I feel i'm destined for big things, all arrogance aside.

Posted Image

Then there was this poser guy who thought he can match up to me. Fun duel ensued, i ended up with a spare Katana and Minsc got a new gift, a pair of lovely battle gauntlets. Let's see.. did i miss anything. Oh yeah, a FREAKIN' OGRE MAGE WHO KILLED HALF MY PARTY. Turns out he was hiding in the body of some mage girl, possessing her and whatnot. Took us a bit by surprise when he jumped out of her dying corpse and proceeded to lay havoc on my squad.

Managed to confuse Minsc right before he tried to go berserk, which complicated things a lot. Nevertheless, we prevailed after a very, very hard fought battle.

Posted Image

After that painful but yet satisfying battle, we made our way to the nearest temple and i shelled out much of our hard earned gold to get them back on their feet. For we would need every drop of our combined strength as we venture towards the mines of Cloakwood.

It is there, right at the entrance, that we would face an ever greater, perhaps the hardest battle yet.. which almost led to yours truly forever demise, if not for Edwin's quick stroke of genius..."

BATTLE REPORT
Alex & Co. Vs. The Party of Drasus (commentary by AlexDeLarge)

I made tons of preparation beforehand. Viconia casting Far Sight to see what i'm dealing with. Turns out to be two fighters and two mages, waiting for our arrival. I assume they are elite and thus a very hard encounter. Protection from Evil 10' Radius, Chant, Animate Dead, Greenstone Amulet applied to Alex. Shield/Blur/Mirror Image on my casters. Coran equipped with Ice Arrows so he can penetrate the mages defences. Prot. from Fire on Alex.

Note: enemy mages are SCS improved with pre-buffing capability (but not with BG2 spells in vanilla)

After i engage and throw around 3-4 fireballs into them, they quickly retaliate by casting Confusion. This turns out to be extremely bad for me, as all but Alex (thanks to Greenstone amulet) and Minsc (berserk), get confused.. The latter turns out to be an even worse problem, as he decides to target aggro exclusively on my protagonist. Minsc... best friend and worst enemy at the same time. There's a reason this semi-functional retard will be gone by SoA (provided i make it all the way there), replaced with Keldorn.

So i just run around with my main character, waiting and hoping the confusion will expire soon on the rest of my party. It eventually does, Viconia and Edwin become very useful after that (Coran and Imoen were not as useful, seeing as they dropped dead), as she makes full use of her Wand of the Heavens and dispatches the enemy mages, while Edwin uses Dispel/Greater Malison / Emotion - Hopelesness/Glitterdust/Flame Arrow/Magic Missiles in order to do the same. They do make some succesful saving throws, the Emotion didn't apply for example. During all this time however, my Mind Shield effect expired on Alex, and i forget to reapply the Greenstone Amulet. The result is he got charmed. All the while Minsc being RELENTLESS!! in chasing poor Alex and smacking him down. I think i was down to 25 or less HP on him, he was still charmed, Viconia couldn't dispel it. And Minsc kept happily pounding away at his party leader. I also ran out of most spells, while two members of the Drasus party were still alive and kicking. The thing that saved Alex and this entire run was me desperately checking Edwin's options for a solution, when i come across an unused Improved Invisibility spell. I quickly cast it on the hostile Alex and he disappears out of sight. The rest of the fight is taken care of afterwards and i breathe a major sigh of relief.

Posted Image

The rest of the Cloakwood Mines weren't problematic at all. In fact, with the Daevorn battle, i go overkill on the pre-buffing and he doesn't even do 1 hp of damage to my party.

Posted Image

So that's it for now, i made my way into Baldur's Gate City, where the next chapter of my story will unfold. Will keep you up to date with my progress in the near future.

P.S. Ran into a tooltip bug. Even though i almost exclusively use dual Katanas on my main, it appears the damage they do isn't recorded properly. As a result, i get War Hammer as favoured weapon, a weapon which i used in maybe 1% of the game, to fight Mustard Jellies. Anyone know how this can be fixed?

Cool, AlexDeLarge, I like your style, heh, evil NPCs are more powerful than their goodly counter parts and Edwin and Viconia are hugely useful. I may think to recruit them too.

Quick update, with everybody now lvl 2-3, we faced a weird looking ogre without fear, Posted Image pseudo dragon sneaked a hit on him and knocked him senseless. On the way, the party encountered a lone, ruggedly handsome bard named Eldoth and decided to let him join for a while.

At FAI, Reenie was greeted by a creepy looking guy and though she did not trust him at first, she blurted out she was from Candlekeep. The mage casted a Horror spell, but Reenie saved with a roll of 8! (gotta love gnome saving throw bonuses!) Posted Image Tarnesh managed to hit Reenie with his staff right on the nose, but his fate was soon sealed by Imoen the Quick as she called herself earlier. Posted Image

Raised Kivan in the temple, and met Jaheira and Khalid, they seemed much more nice types than creepy Xzar and dangerous looking Montaron, so Reenie let the suspicious duo stay in the inn for a while, and grouped with uncle Khalid and aunt Jaheira! Posted Image Jaheira kindly healed Reenie's bleeding nose, while Imoen sneaked upstairs and did some non-trivial thievery. Bentley was angry to see Eldoth, who had a bad reputation. Reenie is not that fond of him either, but he may still prove to be useful.

Oh thank you, I did so but get 'image removed' instead of picture in my post. I used the thumbs link photobucket gave me, and it appears as a clickable link, though it still says Image removed. Gaah this is kinda frsutrating.

Seems a bit odd.  I can see the thumbnail OK in my post.

I haven't used thumbnails myself, but Serg Blackstrider's advice is to remove the following section from the link:
//?action=view&current=//
You could give that a try.

Oh I tried but it doesn't seem to work either. I don't know why my images get removed. I don't have the permission to post images in a thread maybe? Anyway, at least links seem to work, so I'll keep playing.

So the party travelled to Beregost. On the way we encountered a group of bandits who have killed (and apparently burned, for some reason) a noble-looking young man, Kivan and Jaheira were furious so battle commenced. Reenie charmed the leader who was a significant threat and the others fell quickly.

Posted Image

In Beregost, we contacted a bard named Garrick and agreed to protect Silke. However Reenie was not as stupid as Silke thought, so party had to attack evil Silke to save a group of innocent merchants. Silke immediately wounded Reenie with a powerful magic missile, but she gulped a healing potion, and all others attacked at once, dispelling her stoneskin fast and felling her.

 Posted Image

Garrick proposed to join, and Imoen seemed to like him, and Reenie thougt he would be a better travelling bard than the suspicious Eldoth so he joined and Eldoth was left behind.

In the inn, Reenie was attacked by another assasin, he was no match for combined attacks of the group and
Jaheira's sunscorch spell

 Posted Image

Imoen said that she had commisioned a work to clean a house of spiders by a gnome back at FAI. The spiders proved to be deadly as, we had no antidote! Garrick was poisoned and had to gulp 2 healing potions to survive.

 Posted Image

That was bad, but nobody died.

Reenie understood her mistake of letting Garrick join, clearly he was an inexperienced youth and shortly after leaving Beregost, an ogrillon caved in his skull. (a critical hit killed him off!)

Posted Image

Disturbed by young man's death, the party encountered a drow named Viconia, and agreed to protect her from a over zealous flaming fist. The fist guy was casting a powerful spell (glyph of warding, which has killed my party on previous games) when pseudo dragon saved the day, disrupting his spell. The guy resisted both pseudo dragon's venom and Viconia's command though, he was killed quickly.

 Posted Image

We recruited Viconia and gave Garrick a proper burial and nice gravestone ingraved 'brave brave Sir Garrick'. Imoen even cried.

Back to road, the party encountered a duo of would be assasins. (Dark Horizon's encounter, though I have removed their RIDICULOUS weapons and gave them basic +1 weapons instead) Reenie quickly charmed the big looking guy and set him on his girl friend

 Posted Image

She tried to run a few steps away but the combined attacks of our group killed her, at the same time a group of gibberlings came to the sound of combat and ambushed us. The party retreated and the charmed warrior was sent to the fray to protect us.

Posted Image

Gibberlings dead, Reenie casted a grease spell under Tristan, just when the charm's duration ran. The angry fighter managed to protect his balance, but couldn't move fast on the slippery floor. The party's ranged attacks killed him off.

Thank you ussnorway, I did exactly as you said, edited the first image in my previous post, you can check its code to see if I did right. Still it says image removed, but this time when you click on the link it opens the full page image, not in site. Weird. I don't know why.

EDIT:Ooh let me try editing again. In a minute!

EDIT2:I tried enter'ing but it messed up my links...gaah I really don't know what I am doing wrong. Sorry!

EDIT3:I feel kinda stupid. When you quote my links they do appear in your posts, right? Then why don't they appear in mine? Curious.

I dont know why, it does not seem to work either.  Oh well at least you are able to click the links and see the image.

On the way to Nashkel, the party came upon a goblin cave, judging from the many skeletal remains inside, the goblins have been preying upon unlucky travellers. The dark cave made stealth easier and Reenie backstabbed a goblin.  Posted Image

She continued exploring the cave, sticking to shadows, and came upon a shaman. The shaman started casting a spell Posted Image so Reenie used a poisoned arrow from a goblin to disrupt his casting. Posted Image The shaman made his poison save, a pity, the poison would make the battle so much easier.

The party came to help as well, the shaman gulped a potion of defense, and started casting a necromantic spell on Reenie. She feared it might kill her (unholy blight?) so she gulped a potion of invisibility (which belonged to Jaheira) and the shaman lost focus  Posted Image and was immediately backstabbed by Reenie and then killed by the party  Posted Image

The party looted a magical shield which went to Khalid. On the road to Nashkel, nothing important happened, we ignored Shar-teel.

At Nashkel Inn Neira attacked, but was charmed by Reenie.  Posted Image

I made her waste her unholy blight spells on herself, and then Immy showed that she was learning much from Reenie too.  Posted Image The party rested and Reenie had a nightmare and gained Drain Life special ability. (rep. was 9)

As a matter of fact, I can see the pictures if I edit or quote my posts. Weird.

Anyway, is Dark Horizons mod  using SCS scripts? I have SCS installed close to the last, and I have had a very close to death experience, which was thrilling, the enemies were TOO smart.

Party recruited Minsc, and let Viconia have some rest in Nashkel, away from the eyes of the common folk. Onwards we went to Gnoll Stronghold to rescue Minsc's girlfriend. An evil and psychotic looking mage offered to kill her instead, but was rebuffed. We went to Cloudpeak mountains area, encountered fastest dart thrower (which stunned Minsc) but we coped with them. There, Rennie tried her new ability on a gnoll and drained 6 HP (which proved to be VERY important!) Posted Image

Just a few steps ahead of gnolls, the party encountered 2 ogre berserkers and an buffed up ogre mage! Gasp! We were totally unprepared, and ran but they kept close! Posted Image  Here, I used Jaheira as bait to kite the berserkers, she healed herself too when got hit.

While other members tried to kill them with ranged weapons, Rennie was being chased by the ogre mage, who was locked on her and intending to finish her run. He wounded her with a melf's acid arrow, and then pelted with magic missiles! Rennie had so few HPs left, just in time she gulped an extra healing potion we have looted from the fastest dart thrower and Rennie was saved. Posted Image You can see auto pause badly wounded on Rennie, and she gulped a potion...sooo close! AND if she hadn't drained that 6 hp from a gnoll just a minute ago, she would be dead. Wow.  Anyway, party managed to kill one ogre, and pseudo dragon knocked Ogre Mage uncouncious before he could cause more harm. Posted Image Rest was easy, we made short work of the remaining ogre and the uncouncious mage. It gave good XP and Reenie got a much deserved level! She is 3/3 now but does not have any 2nd level spells! Drat!

I did not go to High Edge to buy spells because gnolls had Dynaheir, we had limited time. (RP reasons, BAD move!) and went to Gnoll fortress...there, Dark Horizons mod encounter almost spellt the end for Reenie, but we prevailed by nail and tooth. I will upload the pics at my next post and tell the story.

I have a few questions, is potion of freedom not suppose to work against the hold spell? Also, the green scroll(protection from acid) doesn't seem to work against ankhegs either. Is my game bugged, I just want to know that way next time I can just run away from the cleric casting the spell.

Well, I started out and forgot to take any pictures last night. So...
Character Stuff:
i.imgur.com/2LcUT.png

Command turned out to be quite useful so far in this one.

The first thing I did in Candlekeep was to run upstairs and kill one of the watchers when he appeared. I tookb his armor and helmet, did all the quests except I left Obe in the dust. I then left Candlekeep. I accepted Imoen into the party, robbed her blind and kicked her out. I next killed Xzar and Montaron((I always do)) and then went to Beregost. I went Easyt when I got there and went to the temple, killed all of the knobgoblers there and then went South to Nashkel. I avoided the Flaming Fist dude and destroyed the Ogrillonsd then destroyed the Hobogoblin encampment just North of Nashkel.

That was all done with a regular quarterstaff.

I next revisited Beregost and killed Silke, killed that Assasin in the Red Sheaf Inn, and then raided Kagain. I also spoke Marl out of a fight with me. Now I'm here. Any advice? I'm trying to get Full Plate Mail before going to the mines.
Imventory:

Last Minute add because it's amazing:

Melicamp didn't die! :D
i.imgur.com/gGV2V.png
That's a bonus!

Okay... Should I try Bassilus yet so I can get 5k gold and that coveted +2 Warhammer? Or should I just head South into Amn and level up some more?

So we were in Gnoll fortress. While Minsc was excited as always, Reenie hid in shadows and went for scouting. She saw an enemy dwarf (Dark Horizons encounter) and charmed him, Posted Image look at the screen shot, it says 2 enemies attacking Reenie but I did not notice it at that moment, which nearly proved her downfall. Anyway, the enemy mage casted a sleep spell, which Reenie saved vs spells as she dashed, but the charmed dwarf fell asleep. Ugh. Posted Image

Reenie went to her group, the mage followed, Reenie dispelled his illusions via detect illusions, and retreated back to switch to bow as Khalid came to melee the mage. Posted Image

BUT, all of a sudden! Posted Image yep two hidden enemies came out to backstab Reenie! One missed her just by an inch and that saved her life, she was wounded! I have never suspected there were invisible enemies around, they were really smart!

Then the mage casted a hold person on Khalid, just in time the pseudo dragon knocked him uncouncious! Yay. We quickly divided the backstabbing duo and Rennie drained life from one, while Jaheira healed Minsc, and Kivan used an oil of speed to quickly drop the enemies. Posted Image They fell, and the uncouncious mage followed.  Posted Image Posted Image

That was CLOSE! Backstabbed by two thieves! Phew! Reenie hid in shadows and found the now lone dwarf, casted a grease spell before he could react, he slipped and fell, and was killed by arrows.  Posted Image

There was nice loot, +1 studded leathers, a ring AC+2 for druid only, a few fireball scrolls which Reenie copied to her book, magical axe and chainmail. Nice! Onto to save glorious Dynaheir!

You mean, do my images look OK in my post, don't they have 'image removed' links? Once you click the link thoug they open up fine. Your links do not work for me, though. Shame.

Into gnol fortress we went, we cleared the xvart infested caves, no tome of charisma though, later, killing the occasional gnolls, elite gnolls and gnoll slashers...till Reenie came upon a Gnoll Leader which is VERY strong, and stuns an enemy with his magical halberd. Reenie casted a grease. An xvart did a crit. on her, but she was not disrupted, very lucky!  Posted Image

Grease dropped most of the enemies and slowed down those who saved, and we managed to KO the Clan leader. Others were easy, Khalid tanks, pseudo dragon sneaks in for surprise hits, others use ranged weapons and Jaheira throws the occasional healing. Like Imoen says, easy as pie. Posted Image

Atop the fortress, another Leader, which Reenie charmed. The charmed leader slaughtered many of his fellow gnolls, before he fell to ranged attacks alone. Posted Image We rescued Dynaheir, but did not need a mage, so bid Minsc and his lady farewell for now.

Back to Nashkel, sold the loot, and did some shopping, also Reenie had a dagger enchanted by the help of a druid. (herbs/potions mod)  Posted Image this is an awesome poison dagger +2, which will be put to use by Reenie. We recruited Viconia back, went to Beregost, to give the woman message from husband, for a ring+1, then to Friendly Arm Inn for the spider quest. Reenie also bought a mirror image scroll (and copied it) from the magical wares merchant at FAI temple. (a mod puts her there) and some acid arrows+2 for Kivan. Also bought a full plate for Khalid from a dwarf merchant. (another mod merchant) Rested at FAI.

I planned to do some XP farming and item gathering before going to mines, as after the mines very powerful assasins ambush the party (SCS mod) and one has to be prepared.

I planned to dual Imoen at lvl 6, once she has enough lock picks and detect illusions. Reenie can take care of traps. Three people at my party can stealth (Reenie, Imoen and Kivan) two can heal (Viconia, Jaheira) we have decent ranged attack power (Kivan, Reenie, Imoen, even Viconia thanks to her DEX) and Khalid is a good tank, along with Jaheira since they have good CON. Also, charm person and grease spells by Reenie are VERY powerful, very very useful in every situation against humanoid enemies, thanks to spell revisions mod.

Your links do not open for me. Oh well.

Before recruiting Viconia from Nashkel, went to east side of the Lathander Temple, to farm some wolf xp.  (Khalid needed extra HP with lvls) Posted Image We had magical ammunition to hurt the Vampiric wolves, and Khalid had nice AC to tank them.

Later, went to lake side, tackled a trio of bandits, the sorceress charmed Imoen and held Kivan and Khalid, but she got charmed by Reenie.  Posted Image This is a lesson, enemy mages should be dealt with as soon as possible! The fighter bandit's armor got broken and naked, he fell quickly. Helped Drizzt to fight gnolls, (he helped us infact) and when a ghast crept upon Khalid, we quickly destroyed it, and to my amazement Reenie looted a magic missile wand! With 10 charges! LUCKY! I felt like finding an unique item in Diablo II! Posted Image

After that went to Nashkel carnival, killed amazing Oopah, and attacked Zordral. His color spray managed to confuse the party, BUT Reenie detected his mirror images and stabbed him with her new poison dagger. He was poisoned and could not cast any other spell and fell. Posted Image Poisoning casters is the best way to deal with them!

Feeling confident, we went to tackle Bassilus. I was planning to disrupt his spells easily with magic missile wand and go for a backstab with poison dagger. With item revisions the wand shoots 3 missiles, and actually becomes a very useful item.

@Serg Blackstrider Yes I tried, 'your way', in my last post. Only good it did was that now the links open up the image proper and nice. Thanks anyway.

@Gem Hound sorry, I get '403 forbidden' too, maybe you can try uploading to someplace else?

We tackled Bassilus, thanks to SCS, even with the correct dialogue options, his undead servants do not die immdiately. Reenie used wand of missiles, Viconia casted Command,  Jaheira casted Sunscorch and Kivan attacked with his bow but Basilus made his saves, and his spell was not disrupted. His spell held Kivan, and then he even casted an Unholy Blight!

Posted Image Luckily Reenie ran out of the Unholy Blight's range, and only Imoen was badly wounded.  Basilus kept resisting Viconia's command and hold spells! He was casting another necromantic spell, Reenie disrupted him with her special ability. Posted Image

But suddenly, Khalid's full plate mail was broken into pieces! He found himself naked and the skeletons bolted him good, he retreated just when Reenie casted a grease spell which dropped Basilus for one round.  Posted Image

Viconia ran to heal Khalid but was late by a second, Khalid caught a bolt in his spine and died. Posted Image Jaheira was so angry, and the party pelted Basilus with ranged weapons, who was hit automatically since he was down. He died. But he proved to be a very tough opponent. His spells should have been disrupted but he managed to cast them regardless.

In the same area, we came upon a trio of tough looking hobgoblin thugs. Jaheira casted her new charm mammal spell and Reenie used her own, and Zargal found his friends attacking him. They were disposed of quickly.  Posted Image

We rescued Melicamp, brought him to High Hedge. There, Reenie used the circular inner area and shadows to kill the flesh golems. They were not immune to backstabs and poison. And they gulped 2 extra healing potion each! Clearly there is a bug and the game thinks they are regular fighters. Anyway, Reenie played it safe, with her mirror images, and hit-run tactics, she got nice XP. Posted Image

Thalantyr's spell was succesful and Melicamp was restored. Yay! Posted Image Reenie also bought some spells, a strength spell to augment her backstabbing, but she failed to copy it. A powerword:sleep was copied succesfully. This is a useful spell thanks to spell revisions, save vs spells at -1 or asleep for 5 rounds. Like a beefed up command spell. Neat.
