Thanks for the answer. I probably need to rethink playing vanilla BG but I suppose I can always overlook this minor detail.Serg BlackStrider wrote...

A very quick update before I retire for my bed.
Went to xvart village. Thanks to a mod, the xvart village was quite dangerous and had so many inhabitans. With shamans blessing the hordes of tougher xvarts and casting charm/hold spells here and there. I scouted the area with pseudo dragon, who is immune to charm/hold.

Xvarts came running towards Reenie, and she yelled 'CATCH!'

That was so awesome she instantly leveled up =D
Reenie is level 5 thief/level 4 ilusionist now, with x3 backstab modifier!

@Silver-star, You still have extra bits of source code embedded in your post and I’m inclined to believe that’s what causing your issues... are you trying to copy& paste into your posts from a microsoft product like word? (bad idea) I use the spell checker myself but if you transfer the post to a neutral product like Notepad to remove the junk code... I suspect that will solve your problem... I’m enjoying watching you slugging it out anyway m8!
UD6;
Finish running around in the forest and arrive at BG.

UD7;
Collect intelligence (Imoen) dexterity (Ormaline), wisdom (Do’dad) and some selective items eg wand of polymorph... A pally named Phandalyn attacked Do’Dad so I had to run away!

UD8;
Candlekeep strength (Ormaline) & wisdom (Do’dad) and buffed tanking from my body guard then kill Prat with fire before getting arrested for rape! Ned let us out of jail.

UD9;
I used the standard monster/ wand tactic against the palace ambush & asked Do’Dad to absorb the maze trapped as Imoen doesn’t have her thief (traps disarm) abilities back yet. I walked around the pyromaniacs but Tamoko had slightly better than Do’Dad & therefore had to die!

My plan A was to open with ‘Clouldkill’ then ‘Greater Malison’ and ‘wand of polymorph’ for a quick victory but somehow the Malison failed to fire so... plan B was death by peon.

The next thing I did was whip around and finish emptying the mines. I recruited Xan to help me carry things out. I let him go as soon as we reached Nashkel. I then killed Nimbul with a couple of shots, put on his boots and went to the Knoll stronghold. I also have the Girdle of Piercing on.
I ran into two Hill Giants I knew were going to attack me regardless of what I told them so I cast Hold Person on one of them and killed the other. Then I proceeded to kill the held hill giant.

imageshack.us/photo/my-images/844/divideandconquer.png/
I then had to return to Nashkel due to a full inventory.
I'm going to be a slinger now. I have too many bullet +1s.
Oh yeah. I'm also using the Gauntlets of Dexterity now so my Dexterity is at 18.
After that I did random adventuring in the South for a while.

Reenie understood her mistake of letting Garrick join, clearly he was an inexperienced youth and shortly after leaving Beregost, an ogrillon caved in his skull. (a critical hit killed him off!)
Disturbed by young man's death, the party encountered a drow named Viconia, and agreed to protect her from a over zealous flaming fist. The fist guy was casting a powerful spell (glyph of warding, which has killed my party on previous games) when pseudo dragon saved the day, disrupting his spell. The guy resisted both pseudo dragon's venom and Viconia's command though, he was killed quickly.

We recruited Viconia and gave Garrick a proper burial and nice gravestone ingraved 'brave brave Sir Garrick'. Imoen even cried.
...
Silver-star, when you say that you gave Garrick a proper burial, do you mean that you role played that, or is there a mod that allows for that sort of thing?

I ventured a bit around the Western side of the Road and eventually reached the Flesh Golem Cave. Goodie!
I beat my way through the knobgoblers and the Sirines. Skeletons help ALOT.

I had to reload because I got a black screen boot. Still haven't died yet though!
I quit the one man challenge before I died and now have Safana and Shar-Teel with me. Getting Dynaheir, Minsc, and Ajantis.
Note: I have not died yet.

@SpiffyKeen Oh no, there is no such mod AFAIK. I wanted to recruit Viconia and did not want to risk travelling to temple to raise Garrick so I dumped his corpse. Normally I never do something like that in my games I am sentimental with NPCs. ^^ Umm let's think that an exotic sorceress came upon his handsome corpse, used her planetar to ressurect him, and used him as his pet-boy toy, he would be very useful and happy! Yay!
@Gem Hound wow, tackling sirines solo in a no reload game, you sir, have my respect
Anyways, finishing the xvart village Imoen lvld up to 6, and I dualled her into mage. Went to purchase some spells, a random ambush very nearly killed Immy, she gulped inv. potion with only 1 HP left!
SCS archer scripts lock on unarmored targets for easy kills. Ugh.Here is Reenie,
and her inventory
Robe of Knave grants immunity to backstab in item revisions, a very useful item!

Some ogre hunting, and Reenie put her new x3 backstab modifier and poison dagger to good use.
27 damage plus poison is good. =)Then went to basilisk monument for some XP farming. Pro from petrification was one of my starting spells so I casted on Kivan and set him loose on basilisks with acid arrows. Due to SCS scripts, basilisks understood after a few tries that their gazes were of no use and went to melee, however with a little kiting and ongoing acid damage from arrows finished them off nicely. Mutamin dispelled Kivan, and he had to gulp a pro from magic potion to succed his saving throw every time, Reenie helped off with a powerword before running into the shadows quickly again.
Mutamin found the party but was commanded by Viconia and killed quickly.
Another 27 damage backstab by Reenie to drop the big basilisk for 7k xp, yay!Reenie scouted Kirian's party while in shadows and found them suspicious. Viconia talked with them and battle ensued, much to Kivan's dismay. He really hates Viccy.

Reenie casted a grease spell from the shadows, in blank-point range, it caught the entire evil party and was almost too evil itself =D
They fell as Reenie retreated, a good thing too, for they are buffed and are very nasty indeed.
Only Kirian saved against the grease, and while our ranged attacks killed her companions, she managed to dire charm Khalid, just at the same time Reenie's power word caught her.
She was killed by arrows while Jaheira charmed her husband right back.
She didn't really need a spell for it though, one angry look and yell could have been enough too, I suppose, lol. Immy and Viccy leveled up, (yay! girl power!) we looted a +2 STR gauntlets and a few potions, and headed to Nashkel to rest and resupply. Will raid the Nashkel mines next, me thinks. =)

The party is now at the temple in the Undercity ready for their final battle. Progress included:
- no trouble at the Iron Throne. Zhalimar tried running onto the roof, but there was no escape there.
- normally I run from the ogre magi ambush, but with a party it was easy enough to just kill them. To make it simpler I used a few arrows of dispelling there.
- in the library Jack took his frustrations out on Rieltar (his best backstab to date).
- after looting the catacombs Stan showed himself (using scroll protection from magic) to identify where Prat's bad guys were. They were treated to a dose of Wierdo's immolation strategy.
- back in the city Slythe escaped from a web only just in time to be barbecued by a scorcher. I didn't notice it at the time, but Krystin did major damage to the party despite only surviving a few rounds. Her initial chaos spell affected Gus; I noticed this and would normally assign someone to escort a confused character and absorb any attacks, but was a bit lazy / bored by party play by this time and didn't bother. I saw Gus killing one innocent, but there must have been others as when we got to the palace I found the party now had a reputation of 4 and I was the proud possessor of both a fallen ranger and a fallen paladin
- the palace fight was pretty easy. Everyone was protected against the greater dopplegangers charm, fear and confusion abilities and both dukes survived.
- the Undercity party got treated to another round of fireballs.

We raided the Nashkel Mines, the darkness made it easier for Reenie to hide in shadows. But there were so many kobolds and tough kobold guards with poison daggers. We killed hordes of them and thanks to Kivan, saved an old miner too.
Soo many kobolds spawned it was not fun. They give so little xp but are still very dangerous.
Reenie still can't cast fireball though, so... Anyways, we encountered a group of duergar assasins, again Dark Horizons mod. The leader Gorken Bloodaxe made his save vs spells against both Reenie's and Imoen's charms, but fell to Jaheira's since hers was more dificult to resist (save vs spells at -1)
Gorken killed his former companions quickly, but was wounded. Meanwhile Reenie sneaked to the back of a duergar with crossbow and backstabbed with a crit. For 60 dmg!
(duergar's name is bugged but no prob) Gorken fell to Viconia's command and was killed out right. There were many many ugly bitsy duergar body parts flying around, heh.
They had nice equipment, and Khalid has an AC of -6 now. Many, many more kobolds put to sleep and killed. Thank you SCS, it seems like there are hundreds of them.

At the end of the caves, mini boss kobold chieftain, guards and a shaman. Guard was very smart, and actually guarded chieftain's back. See, I was planning to backstab the chief but the guard went to his back and stayed here, guarding him with his life! Drat!
Anyways, we fought and killed the guards and commando, but the shaman zapped Reenie with a lightning bolt! Whoa, one potion gulped, I did not expect him to cast lightningings here and there!
Shaman was very smart, he ran around and avoided Khalid, and was about to cast another evocation spell (from the looks of its casting animation) when Khalid beheaded him for good.
Reenie detrapped cave entrance, and one level down. An odd bug happened. Reenie backstabbed one kobold to tiny bits, but one tiny bit stood there, revolving fast, doing kobold sounds and attacked Reenie! With a crit the thing punched for 2 dmg, it was a punch with the 'THUD!' sound as its equipment was down on the ground. Weirdness.

Oooh, boss fight! Mulahey is no push-over but we did well. Viccy raised skeletons to block kobolds, and Reenie backstabbed Mulahey while he was casting a hold person on Immy.
and poisoned him! This spellt the end for the poor sod, but Reenie did not want him to summon more help, so she power worded him to sleep.
Poisoned, he never woke up. We looted a nice gauntlet for Viccy
and to my suprise, a bag of holding! YAY! Rescued Xan and bid him farewell. Rested in Mulahey's cave for identifying things.Khalid badly needs a magical longsword, he has 3 pips in it, we only have magical axes from the duergar. That's a bummer.

I have item randomiser mod too, so I don't know which item will be where. My game is like none another! ^^
After the mines, outside we were attacked by crazy mage, who was dropped by pseudo dragon. His mustard jellies actually had ranged spray attacks, I was surprised when one critically missed Reenie.

Khalid equipped magical staff, Viccy had a spiffy magic hammer bought from mod vendor, and Jeheira casted a spell to grant him a +1 club. They squashed the jellies flat.
That nice ring effect is Viccy's weapons special ability, %15 chance per hit to do small damage to enemies within radius. Cool!Attacked Revenant, which really hurt Khalid but we managed to beat him down.

Back at Nashkel, Berrun Ghastkill gave us our reward and we were attacked by Nimbul. He instantly started casting an evocation right on Reenie! Gasp! That was..shocking!
Luckily Reenie gulped the extra healing potion in her quick slot, and pseudo dragon once again stopped the evil mage.
Phew. That guy is TOUGH with SCS, hurling fireballs and lightnings and then going invisible for backstabs, plus he comes buffed up to the vazoo! And grants only 650 xp. Broken! His magic ring was very nice though. Item revisions alters it and it is an excellent item for Reenie!

Tranzig was really non-trivial compared to Nimbul. He only casted a color spray which Khalid saved
and he was put to sleep by Viccy's command and subsequently cut down. Now, I need to get Reenie lvl 5 as illusionist before we enter bandit camp. This is very important as two fireballs will make a huge difference against countless low level bandits there. I already have fireball in her book. She has 17777 xp and needs to reach 20k to hit lvl 5. Need to do some xp farming. Hmm any suggestions?

Lamalha and her amazones quartet attacked us! Rigt in the middle of Beregost! I was NOT expecting this. SCS puts them ambush you but they always appeared in wilderness areas in my previous games. That was nasty, the two clerics were spell casting machines and lots of Unholy Blights poured on us. Ugh.
Luckily, both Reenie and Imoen were wearing knave robes, which protected against backstab, because two of their party were invisible. They did not attack though, they couldn't decide whom to attack I think. Even more unholy blights on Reenie. Sigh. SCS really punishes good aligned characters in this matter.
Jaheira's sunscorch blinded one cleric and Reenie casted Knock on the other, knocking her uncouncious. (spell revisions enables the knock to be used as an offensive spell too!) They fell.
They had a +2 bone breaker staff (slows the victim, save vs spell) I knew the other 2 amazons were around here, and tried to detect illusions, but couldn't find them. Decided to go feldepost's inn, and there they followed and came out to play.
and then they were killed before you can say Baldur's Gate.If Imoen or Reenie was not protected from backstab, the assasins would go for them, I think, and that would kill them because they were already wounded from unholy blight spells. This is a really nasty combo to kill good aligned spellcasters on SCS's part.
Sold some loot and bought this for Reenie.
Item revisions mod alters the neutral arch mage robe into this, a very nice item for multi-classed mages who go to melee. +10 hp is nice, though I know I lose knave robe's backstab protection. Gotta be more careful and watch Reenie's back. =)

Then I went back to the Firewine Ruins, killed the "Best Swordsman in the Sword Coast" and easily killed Kahrk who went for the cannonfodder I had spawned.

I foolishly didn't rest and went right to the next map.
Then, I went South. The map decided to place me nearly on top of the Amazons as you can see in this picture:
imageshack.us/photo/my-images/513/amazons.png/
I threw fireballs and hold spells and whatnot at them keeping my troops away from the fray. Dynaheir and Safana died.

I threw some of the stuff into the Western cave and went to the Temple of Helm in Nashkel.
I think this has been an interesting run.

We went to north of FAI for ankheg hunting. There was little danger, really, for Khalid had -6 AC and big HPs to tank them and all others shoot ranged weapons at them while Reenie was more of a cloak and dagger kind of gal here.
Cleared the area, ankheg nest, brought the farmer's son's corpse back, and got Tenya's quest from a group of rather unsavory looking fishermen.Went to the bridge to fabled Baldur's Gate. There, Reenie stealthed and scouted the area. She saw a group of elven warriors, all decked in combat gear, waiting suspiciously on the bridge. That was suspicious!
In truth they are another group of assasins, courtesy of Dark Horizons mod. BUT they have elven chains and longbows and have a high lvl leader and have butchered my party countless times in previous games.
So we had to prepare. Reenie urged Khalid to gulp a mixture of potions we had in hand. Khalid was kinda squemasih, he was afraid mixing of so many potions at once could be fatal, but Reenie persuaded him that she had read about it back at Candlekeep and knew what she was doing. =D
Here is our brave Khalid after gulping down several potions. Item revisions change some of the potions, stone form potion grants stoneskin, for instance.

Off Khalid went to say hello, or rather, 'h-h-h-he-hello!' to the elves. They did not even listen to him and proved to be a very nasty bunch.

So they all attacked Khalid, when Reenie and Imoen casted a grease spell instantly under them. Khalid gulped a magic protection potion to be able to save vs its effects without risk.

Elves fell down and were torn apart by our ranged attacks and Khalid's mighty blows. He had 25 STR, thanks to a cloud giant str potion and ogre gauntlets which further gives +2 bonus.
It was a massacree. But only evil guys died, so I guess it's OK. =DMaybe I went a bit heavy on potion reserves but couldn't risk being killed by them, for they are exceptionally dangerous and equipped by piercing arrows. We looted various elven chain mails, elven loongbows, elven +1 swords and their magical arrows and lots of extra healing potions. Joy! Look at this beauty, Kivan really liked it.

Did Tenya's quest also, brought her the bowl. Everybody leveled up during elven fight, including Reenie. She was able to cast fireball at last! Brightening the shadows with her fireball!
That red globe revolving around her head is a +1 DEX ioun stone bought freshly from High Hedge. She has 19 DEX now, and is protected from crit. hits. Cool!Everybody has nice elven chains, Kivan has +2 bow and Khalid finally has a +1 elven long sword, just got his fourth pip in longswords too! Oh joy! I am feeling confident enough to assault the Bandit Camp, I think. Today I have to go to work, so no BG till night. Oh well...Wish me luck!
