With both Kivan and Coran in the party clearing the south was an easy job. Party got a little more courageous and started dealing more backstabs, but still, shooting and hiding remained the main tactic. When most of the southern locations were done, party returned to Beregost, killed Silke and welcomed Garrick to the party (level 6, 20 HP). He managed to learn some spells (took him free potions to accomplish that) – Friends, Invisibillity, Web, Skull trap and Protection from petrification. Most of the time his role was to sing his battlesong while remaining invisible, aiding the party with Magic Missles, wands, heavy crossbow or even backstab, only in dangerous situations (mostly in ambushes, where he isn’t invisible anyway).
With protection from petrification party could clear the basilisk area, stopping by to say hello to Xzar. Then, they headed west to the coast areas and recruited Safana (level 6, 25 HP). She had only 15 points in stealth, so Mrtyudasa had to give her his Shadow Armor, while Imoen parted with her pair of Boots of Stealth. 65 was still pretty bad, but enough to hide after dark. She also had a proficiency point in spears (by the way, Coran have 3 in bows). It wasn’t a problem, since she’s also trained in missle weapons and short swords, and the party had already managed to buy the Crossbow of Speed. With 11 shots per round (not counting Garrick’s crossbow), killing things was getting really easy.
Mrtyudasa turned south again and did some traveling from the southwestern edge of the map to the southeastern and back, trying to get ambushed by winter wolves. Managed to find only one, but also encountred a mountain bear, a few cave ones and, finally, an ogre mage. He dropped great loot: diamond, pearl necklace and Larael’s Tear necklace. In terms of gold – about 5 wolves. Having 16 reputation and ability to raise Garrick’s charisma to 20, party managed to buy Dagger of Venom, which Mrtyudasa happily equipped.
While on their way to Firewine Bridge (to get the Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise) party had a very unpleasant encounter: a few hobgoblin archers and a basilisk. To make things worse, basilisk immediately targeted Mrtyudasa. He gulped an invisibillity potion, pushed Kivan in front and ordered everyone to shoot the best missles they had. Safana fired a bolt of polymorph (found on one of the basilisks, by the way) but missed. Others were more lucky (especially Kivan) and basilisk was dead before Garrick got to fire his wand of lightning. It would be ironic if someone got shot by hobgoblins meanwhile. But it seems that hobgoblins don’t have a sense of irony, as they didn’t even score a single critical.

Other dangerous ambush happened somewhere near Beregost – 14 bandits. Party escaped, killing three of them while running.

In the spider location things went bad. Centeol got killed in one volley of missles, but the sight of two sword spiders charging made party retreat. They sneaked back and found a nice spot, where only three giant spiders were visible. To make things simpler, Safana hurled an exploding potion. However, it only complicated things, as it lured out some other enemies, sword spider included. Yet again everyone were making for the exit, even though the other sword spider was already there. Mrtydasa got caught between two sword spiders and nearly died, but someone reached the exit and everyone was trasported outside. Everyone save for Kivan, who got backed to a wall by three giant spiders. Which was a good thing, since the fourth one, nor the sword ones, could not get to him. Still, he had no hope of surviving without aid, so his party members (apart from Garrock who run out of invisibillity) sneaked back. There where still some ettercaps on the other side of the lair, so there was no safe place to start shooting spiders one by one. Giving Kivan an invisibillity potion was a possibillity, but he wasn’t going to stay in the party anyway (not being a rogue), so the problem shifted from getting Kivan out
to getting his items out (with no pause in the inventory screen). But then I noticed that he got close enough to exit to get teleported outside along with the party. And so, Kivan lived.

Party returned to Beregost to restock, heal wounds and drink some beer. Lathander’s temple run out of potions, so Mrtyudasa decided to get really anticlerical, as evidenced below:

Mrtyudasa didn’t like the treatment his party received from spiders on their last visit and decided to play even less fair the usual, and killed one of them by locking him inside an invisible barrier, while Coran kept shooting.

Enemy party outside the mines where trapped with two webs, but still Drassus managed to attack. However, Boots of Speed didn’t help him when he got backstabbed with a Dagger of Venom and failed his save. Rest of his team went down without much resistance, as held creatures tend to.
Safana was left outside, so that Yeslick could be brought above ground. Party encountered no trouble on their way down. Garrick used scroll of dispel magic to get rid of Daevorn’s protections from a safe distance. Assassination didn’t go exactly as planned, as Kivan was detected while the party was positioning. Daevorn got only one backstab (rest had to shoot), saved against poison and teleported to a position, in which he was faced by Garrick alone. Luckily for him, bard managed to drop the mage with his Magic Missles before the latter finished casting his lightning bolt (if that’s what it was).

Party status:
Mrtyudasa – thief 7, 38 HP (rolled 6, when levelled to 7th)
Coran – fighter 5/thief 6, 34 HP
Kivan – ranger 6, 40 HP
Imeon – thief 7, 45 HP
Safana – thief 7, 26 HP
Garrick – bard 7, 22 HP

I've managed to finish the game 3 or four times (granted, it was > 10 years ago), and I have found the no-reload challenge reasonably difficult. A word of caution: if you haven't beat the game several times now with different characters, trying it no-reload is likely to be frustrating. It may require a dozen or maybe even 2 dozen re-starts before you get a success.
I'm having great fun with it, but for somebody who hasn't completed the game, I would strongly recommend playing the game through to completion before starting a reload challenge, unless the player is very comfortable with restarting the game dozens or hundreds of times.
Of course, there's also the guys who have been here a long time and can beat the game in an afternoon. But they are, truly, the exceptions rather than the rule.
Thanks After5CST. In that case I will play the non reload chalenge until my first reload :-)

For most of the game Fizz was sitting at reputation 20, so the end position just represents power-gaming in order to get the mix of Bhaal powers I wanted. I do occasionally restrict doing this on RP grounds, but normally allow it (as there are quite a few encounters in the game where the reputation award seems nonsensical to me, I don't tend to feel bound by its rules).corey_russell wrote...

The party made it through the Candlkeep Crypts successfully without casualty. We did not attack the Iron Throne party here. Imoen did stellar thief work. The Greater Dopplegangers were hit with chaos which was hugely effective. Prat was soloed by Coran using arrows of detonation. When we were trying to get the strength tome, Coran nearly died from a phase spider bite, but fortunately he was able to potion in time. The spiders in the caves were duoed by Kagain and Coran (Coran was usiing the spider's bane to be immune to the webs, Kagain a free action ring). Baslisks were also taken down by Kagain and Coran using mirror eyes potions. Once they had the baslisks attention then Imoen assisted with Marek's short bow.
The party will be traveling through the city exclusively via the sewers, so they shouldn't get arrested.

All, I continue to be amazed at the difference playing the game with SCS. As with the Hard-Times mod I prefer it dramatically changes game play, I think for the better.
I really liked the variation on the place where I was attacked by the assassin party's Lamalha, Maneira, Telka and Zeela and Molkar, Morvin, Drakar and Halacan. Previously I always knew where they'd pop up and therefore, even if unintentionally, I was thinking thru the fight before I got to it.
I ended up fighting Molkar, Morvin, Drakar and Halacan in Nashkel the morning after the Nimbul attacked. Really glad we rested after that Nimbul fight!
Then fought Lamalha, Maneira, Telka and Zeela in Beregost. That one cost me some collateral damage and some of the folks in Beregost are hostile to us now (kinda like the real word).
Both battles were a complete surprise and I thoroughly enjoyed it that way.
I will say that I've only added the following from the Improved tactical Challenges: 'Improved Deployment for Parties of Assassins' and 'Relocated bounty hunters.' I'm intrigued by, 'Tougher Black Talons and Iron Throne guards' but, to me, they're both pretty difficult now - not sure I want to go for insanity - which most of the other changes would be. I added the 'Dark-Side-based kobold upgrade' to a game a few weeks ago and came marching thru the Nashkel Mines with a bunch of 2nd Lvl folks and got murdered - literally.
Anyway, here's Alexander the Paladin/Undead Hunters latest.

We found and killed a Half-Orc, Mulahey, who was directing operations in the Nashkel Mines. Unfortunately, it seems, the trail doesn't end there, but apparently only begins...

We destroyed a number of Undead creatures at the Valley of the Tombs. This one, it seems, had killed a Paladin/Cavalier named Seth and wiped out his party sometime in the past. I was happy to avenge him!
Nashkel Mines, Valley of the Tombs (Chapter 1)
We returned to Nashkel following our rescue of Dynaheir & headed straight for the Nashkel Mines after a short rest, recuperation and resupply. We arrived at the mines and spent a few hours recon’ing the area around the mine entrance. We did find a sculptor there who was wanted in Nashkel for stealing some Emeralds. He was carving a sculpture that was magnificent and we chose to allow him to finish & protect him from a bounty hunter named Greywolf. Of course Greywolf found him shortly after us a. Greywolf didn’t even want to listen to reason and now he’s dead for his bullheadedness. Other than that we just saw & killed a few Kobolds around there.
We immediately descended into the mines after acquiring permission from the foremen and within just a few hours had wiped out 30 some odd Kobolds on the first two levels but really had no answers. We completed a favor by returning a dagger to a man, Kylee, who was working on the 2nd level of the mines. We returned to Nashkel to unload and resupply. We collected a sample of the ore & a couple of vials of mysterious liquid that might provide some clues. While in town we returned the Emeralds the sculptor had used w/a heavy heart.
Later we returned to the mines & found more Kobolds on the third level of the mines which was much less explored than the levels above. We probably killed another 30 or so Kobolds here but we also found a couple of Huge Spiders & a Ghoul. Unfortunately we found the wedding ring that belonged to a man whose wife we’d met in Nashkel – it was just a ring but there was a body lying nearby. We later brought these sad tidings to his wife.
Key Event:[/i] [/i]Finally, after another trip to Nashkel we headed down to the fourth level. Here we battled three Kobolds/Kobold Commando’s, a couple of Ghasts & Gray Ooze’s before hitting the jackpot. Inside a ‘cave within a cave’ we found a Half-Orc, Mulahey, who was in charge of the operation to cause the iron crisis. He was able to summon another 15 or so Kobold’s and about five Skeletons’ but they didn’t save him. What we found there amongst his treasure points us back toward Beregost.[/i] We also ran into a mage, Xan, who wanted to join us but I refused. I think more than six is too much for our purposes here.
When we ascended from the mines we were in The Valley of the Tombs. While there we re-killed some Ghasts, a Ghoul & some other undead thing from three of the tombs. We also killed some Green Slimes that some whacko wizard let loose & some war dogs but nothing much else there was of interest.
We returned to Nashkel tired & ready for a rest. We met up with Berrun Ghastkill & he thanked & rewarded us. He asked us to take our vials & ore sample to Taerom Fuiruim & Thalantyr respectively. We left Berrun & were suddenly attacked by a seventh assassin but we mowed him down quickly – this group is gelling. When we awoke the next AM we headed out of the Nashkel Inn & were attacked by four more assassin’s – this group much tougher than any we’ve faced – one of them a spell caster. We were bunched up in the door but dispersed quickly. Khalid & Dynahier quickly got off attack spells & Jaheira blessed us & with considerable difficulty we were able to beat them n but used all of our spells & at least two Potions of Healings to do so.

First of all, Safana, Garrick and Kivan got kicked out, with Tiax, Eldoth and Skie taking their place. Tiax (cleric 5/ thief 6, 47 HP) equipped Shadow Armor, Boots of Stealth (raising his stealth to 95%) and a sling +1. Soon, party got him the Shield of Falling Stars, Gauntlets of Ogre Strenght and a quarterstaff +3 for backstabbing. His ghast and healing spells are very helpful. Eldoth (bard 5, 24 HP) used grimoire to inrease his constitution to 16 (though I should have saved it for Skie), equipped Gauntlets of Dexterity and longbow +2 (Coran has composite bow +1), shooting almost exclusively his poisoned arrows, but mostly staying invisible, like Garrick. The poison of his arrows is not nearly as good as that of arrows of biting, but it seems they are bugged in the same manner, adding strenght bonus to damage. With his 16 strenght it’s +1, +2 with potion, +3 with Strenght of One. Plus, they come in infinite quantity. He learned the same spells as Garrick, plus Haste. Skie (thief 6, 28 HP) took Crossbow of Speed. She had enough points in stealth to reach a decent level with Boots of Stealth.
Getting to Baldur’s Gate also meant access to equipment such as arrows of detonation, arrows of dispelling and oils of speed, which made the game much easier. After some questing party also acquired Helm and Cloak of Balduran, two pairs of Gauntlets of Weapon Skill, third pair of Boots of Stealth, Grimoire of dexterity (used by Mrtyudasa), Helm of Glory (which along with the Algernon’s Cloak allowed Coran to reach charisma of 20), short bow +2 (which Mrtyudasa equipped, giving short bow +1 to Imoen) and Ring of Protection +2. Also, Coran bought himself the Claw of Kazgaroth.
Thus equipped, party decided to do something really dangerous and went after Drizzt. They didn’t give him a fair fight, of course – Drizzt found himself trapped inside an invisible barrier, while being fired upon by Coran. It didn’t feel like cheating, though, considering how tragic the fight could get, were someone to fail his or hers stealth roll. It took Coran 27 arrows of piercing to put Drizzt down. He took most of the spoils – Mithrill Chainmail and Defender, while Mrtyudasa took Frostbrand, passing Dagger of Venom to Skie.

Kahrk was next on the list. This time, all it took was one arrow, namely Arrow of Slaying, which killed the ogre despite his protections. While going through Gullykin party assassinated another priest, Alvanhendar, whithout reputation loss this time. They also paid another visit to the Bandit Camp, killing everyone. Mrtyudasa was proud of backstabbing Taugosz for 58 damage, nearly beating Coran’s record. Coran did not like the idea of loosing his backstab championship and critically hit an invisible stalker for 92 damage.

From time to time party was visiting the ankheg area, grabbing some some ankheg shells and selling them in Badur’s Gate. The greedy dwarf would rob the party by paying 250 gp for all of them, but agressive negotiations (and dropping the shells to the ground) convinced him to pay 250 for each.
When the time has come to assault the Iron Throne, party decided to prepare a fiery surprise and ambushed the enemy with multiple arrows of detonation.

Before reporting back to Eltan, Mrtyudasa did a little side trip, agreeing to take Shandalar’s quest. Killing mages with arrows of dispelling and arrows of biting was an easy matter and no spell immunity potions were drunk. Garan used to summon some ankhegs, but then...

But they wouldn't manage to carry their shells out anyway.
Party status:
Mrtyudasa – thief 8, 46 HP
Coran – fighter 6/thief 7, 39 HP (44 with Helm of Balduran)
Imoen – thief 8, 51 HP
Tiax – cleric 6/thief 7 53 HP (Tiax rules!)
Skie – thief 7, 31 HP
Eldoth – bard 7, 42 HP

After clearing all maps S of the FAI except Durlag's, the party was rested, prepared, and were confident enough to take on Larswood, Pelvdale, and the Bandit Camp.
Larswood presented no problem at all.
Reaching Pelvdale, I found the first indication that Garden might not make it to the end... I'm getting cocky. Normally, I will sweep this map clean as well, and then move on to clean out the bandit camp. But this time, I thought "Hey, wasn't there something about joining the bandit gang and getting a chance to kill Tazok (if you're fast)...". So, the group skimmed Pelvdale and joined the bandit group in the NE and was moved to meet Tazok.
At this point, we are in unfamiliar territory, as I haven't fought Tazok at the bandit camp in the 21st century. Nonetheless, I hope that a backstab, Doom, Blindness, some Magic Missiles, Liberal uses of two Wands of Fire, and Minsc going Berserk will be enough to down him.
The opening gambit went well, with Imoen scoring big on the stab (text in screenshot below, although the screenshot is later). Doom works... I guess... but Tazok still saves against Blindness easily, showing me that "save or else" spells probably aren't a good choice here. At this point, he concludes the test and attempts to leave the area.
We move on to plan B, with Minsc equipping the Helm of Defense and Ring of Fire Protection, moving to keep Tazok in sight, and the three arcane casters unleash a series of Fireball spells and uses of Wands of Fire. Sadly, he's moving quickly enough two out of three miss him but all three hit Minsc, putting him in some pain.
Nonetheless, before the end, with the use of Garden's Ag's Scorcher, Imoen's Arrows of Fire, Tazok finally falls to Dynaheir's Lightning spell.

Garden - Tazok is Defeated on Flickr
A quick rest, and then the party continues on into the camp.
After this, (to my surprise), most of the camp exterior still isn't hostile. After deciding that there's no reason to upset Taugosz, the party moves on to enter the tent... and then we get a little more cocky. Maybe Imoen can loot the tent without anyone noticing... but no go. Her stealth isn't up to the task and she runs from the tent before the dialog can happen.
So, we try even riskier plan B: Minsc goes into the tent alone (and unbuffed, other than equipment). It's my thought that he can trigger the dialog, go Berserk, and then after he has everyone's attention (and Venkt has dumped some of his spells) the party can come in to assist and clean up.
It turns out, Minsc doesn't need help. It's a close race, but his Berserk provides enough power and protections he cleans the tent out on his own.

Garden - Minsc Clears the Tent on Flickr
Even with delayed Acid Arrow damage and the 15hp loss at end of Berserk, he ends up with... exactly one HP. Congrats to him!
To my surprise, once Imoen goes into the tent and takes the scroll forwarding the chapter, all the tent exterior bandits go hostile. Since Minsc is in no shape to fight, the rest of the party (who are rested) then take on clean-up duty: using Dooom and Blindness on Taugosz, and then pretty much mopping up everything with Animate Dead support and archery.
Fast forwarding past a trip to Ulgoth's Beard (wanted the Ring of Free Action to avoid another premature end on the Cloakwood spider map), and the party quickly clears out the first forest map. The fight against the druids was of import, as Call Lightning has killed characters on multiple occasions. The druid must die before finishing the spell.
And once again, the party exceeds all expectations. Imoen opens with another great backstab, Minsc is flailing away, and Xan's new third level spell (Flame Arrow manages to down the druid before Dynaheir's Lightning, Garden's Scorcher, or Branwen's Hold Person can even get finished. There's the druid rabble to clean up, but they're pretty much cannon fodder at this point.

Garden - Imoen Stabs Seniyad on Flickr
Not covered is a quick but complete run through of the spider map, netting Garden the Spider's Bane he's been coveting and another level. The party is now at the next map, trying to decide if they want to clear the Cloakwood druid map or if it's just time to keep moving on towards the Wyvern and Mine maps.

So the party battled Cythrandria and her ogres - no problem for this party, though Kagain did use a potion of aborption. Slythe was defeated mainly to arrows of dispelling, magic missiles and wand of heavens. The party looted his stuff and scrammed -- with the hostile commoners and our skeletons we didn't want to lose rep -- we left Kristyn to mourn her loss.
As for the Duchal Palace battle, skeletons and Kagain got into melee range, while the party mostly ranged attacked plus a few magic missiles/wand of heavens. Success!

The party had no trouble in the thieve's mage - mainly due to Imoen detrapping the traps near the skeletal warriors while invisible.
As for the Iron Throne party in the Undercity, Coran tried to solo them with arrows of detonation, but that failed, so he ran back to the party then the party finished those that followed, which was everyone but the mage. Once they fell, the mage of course was no problem to take down.
On the big fight itself. This fight is quite a bit different with EasyTutu than vanilla, I'm still trying to learn its secrets. But in any case, Coran opened with a backstab on Sarevok. This didn't work out too well, as Coran failed his save vs. stinking cloud. Coran was killed, which meant we lost access to the haste boots he had, as well as the dispelling arrows - he had the only ones! (uh oh). However we did get a mixed blessing as Sarevok was caught in a web.
This meant that the party only had to battle Semaj and Tazok. With the aid of skeletons and wand of heavens and magic missiles, Semaj fell and Tazok shortly thereafter.

Sarevok and Angelo are still kicking. I'm not sure why I did this, but I "felt" I should send the skeletons by themselves toward Sarevok, with the rest of the party hanging tight. This turned out to be a brilliant play, if I may say so -- as Angelo in his zest to destroy the skeletons, hit Sarevok with his exploding arrows - and when the skeletons were dead, Sarevok made Angelo pay with that indiscretion with his life!

We still have no haste ourselves, and Sarevok still has his. Kagain was given a mission - recover Coran's haste boots and the dispelling arrows. He took a beating, but he did get the items and ran back to the party. Once he got close enough to give the arrows to Imoen, he ran in a circle in the center of the temple to trigger the traps, since he was mostly immune with this protection from magic scroll active, while the party unloaded on Sarevok. This worked for a little bit, but then Sarevok gave up the chase of Kagain and charged the party! Viconia moved to intercept and Core moved out range.

Viconia was killed. But the party kept at it, and finally Gorion was avenged!

Core will advance to BG 2 as this is a trilogy run. His final stats:

Good idea Grond0, wizard slayer/druid will be interesting to observe. Did you mean bladesinger (mod?) or blade.
#5191
Posté 10 mars 2012 - 10:04
The Bladesinger is a highly admired elven warrior who, from youth, chooses a particular type of bladed, one-handed weapon, and concentrates all his effort upon learning and mastering it. This, however, detracts from other skills. This unique focus on a single weapon allows the bladesinger to parry attacks, and this, combined with his famous ability to cast spells and his increased reaction rate, makes the Bladesinger a foe to be reckoned with in combat. Also, spell casting in melee combat can be achieved during a period of parrying. His spell casting is a huge advantage, but his casting time is slightly slower than that of a pure mage.
ADVANTAGES:
- Can achieve Grand Mastery with any 1-handed blade-type weapon category, and achieve any proficiency level in single weapon style
- Gains +1 to AC and THAC0 every 8 levels
- Receives a permanent +1 damage modifier
- Has the ability to Disarm up to four times per day (This allows to knock the target's weapon out of its hands if an attack at -5 is successful and if the target fails a save vs death at -5. Disarming can be attempted for 2 rounds per use of the ability.)
- Gains a special Parrying move at levels 2, 7, 10 and 13, which prevents him from attacking, but grants a bonus to AC and spellcasting time.
- Can cast spells in armor at level 7
- The Bard Song is the same as the Skald's (+2 to hit and to damage initially)
DISADVANTAGES:
- Must be Elf, Half-elf or Human
- Can't get any proficiency in 2-handed weapons or in any other style than single weapon
- Receives a penalty to spellcasting time
- Can't steal
- Has the same Lore as a mage.
The kit has quite a few advantages, although there is a significant delay in casting time which means it's rather hampered as a spellcaster in combat.
My approach with the group will be to rely on their abilities to take on tough opposition early. Thus far the group have:
- completed Candlekeep, including killing Firebead.
- took a few potions off the bodies of Xzar and Montaron.
- headed to the coast and taken the helm of defense off Droth (he failed saves against both blind spells).
- Zargal was also blinded and his hobgoblin archer allies beaten up.
- first mistake of the run came againt Bassilus, where I mis-clicked and had to face all the undead as well as Bassilus himself. That meant the party had to run for it and find a better spot to re-form. When they did make a stand Exos was held by Bassilus and quickly killed, but Bassilus was blinded at almost the same time.

From that point Avaunt took over tanking duties and the party didn't have much trouble finishing things off - Avaunt just needing to take a couple of healing potions to keep himself safe. Exhorter got the party's first level-up as a result of the battle.

Good luck Grond0 - your party looks to be quite potent in BG2.

This one is a bladesinger, which is mod added. Description as follows:
First 'disadvantage' is actually an advantage, as normally bards can only be half-elves or humans. With penalty to spellcasting time being the only important disadvantage, this bladesinger seems overpowered (then again, normal blade have no disadvantages at all). Does achieving proficiency points grant bladesinger any additional attacks or just bonuses to hit and damage?

In vanilla grand mastery does not give you any extra attacks, but I have the true grand mastery tweak, which does give an additional attack. Even after that is available the bladesinger won't be quite as good in combat as the blade, but has a better bard song available at the cost of worse spell casting. Overall I suspect these kits are relatively even in power (blade would be significantly better in solo play, but bladesinger should have an advantage in a large party).

Party followed the leaders of the Iron Throne to Candlekeep’s Library. After assassinating them, they safely sneaked outside, but found the gates closed and had to turn themself in to get out. While looting the dungeons, a certain grimoir allowed Mrtyudasa to increase his strenght to 19, making his backstabs that much powerful. Later, killing a respectable doppelganger lowered party’s reputation.

But it turned out to be a fortunate event, as it granted Mrtyudasa a Vampiric Touch instead of a second Draw Upon Holy Might, when the party rested below Candlekeep’s walls. Getting some sleep was not easy, however, as the party was repeatedly disturbed by the keep’s watchers.

Appareantly, they are more concerned with vagrancy then murder. How typical.
With all the commotion caused by Iron Throne leaders untimely demise, Mrtyudasa decided to lay low for a while, and departed from the Sword Coast on the quest to discover Balduran’s fate. Werewolves proved to be less trouble then I expected, as the party was capable of dropping them in one volley (or one backstab, in case of Coran endowed with giant’s strenght). Only the fight with Karoug was problematic, as Coran found himself cornered by the mighty werewolf. However, Mrtydasa’s silver dagger backstab and Tiax’s wand of heavens ended the fight.
Back on the Sword Coast, brave rogues backstabbed some loose ends:

[That was quite a successful ‘backstab party’, as three stabs were delivered almost simultaneously (Tiax attacked too late, however). You can see the bits of three mages flying about.]
...and finally, they arrived at Durlag’s Tower, which is like to become their tombs.
From now on I’ll try to keep a more detailed record, including all the gruesome details of party member tragic ends.
Party status:
Mrtyudasa – thief 9, 51 HP (level 9 means backstab modifier x4)
Coran – fighter 7/thief 7, 42 HP (47 with Helm of Balduran)
Tiax – cleric 7/thief 7, 56 HP
Imoen – thief 9, 57 HP (so much for Tiax’s reign)
Skie – thief 9, 35 HP
Eldoth – bard 8, 48 HP
Tiax uses one handed staff/mace +2 now, while Imoen took quarterstaff +3.

I was more interested in knowing if the bladesinger actually gains this additional attack (and additional half attack from second proficiency point). Swashbuckler with two proficiency points still has only one attack, same as Haer'dalis, who has 2 points in short swords.

The strength bonus is not applied to backstabs. It still probably helps his Thac0, however, so you are less likely to miss your backstab.

OK, I understand. Unfortunately the answer is no - only fighter types can benefit from the increased attacks from proficiency. I've always felt that is probably an unintentional mistake in the game - for instance the description for a swashbuckler clearly refers to their fighter-type ability. However, I've not felt strongly enough to do anything about it. Of the kits with non-standard proficiencies that means only the archer potentially benefits with an extra attack for grand mastery (if you have true grand mastery mod); the others have to make do with increased to hit and damage.Blackmalkin wrote...

Just to clarify that means that the strength bonus doesn't get duplicated by the backstab, but you still get the basic bonus so there is a slight benefit. Note that other bonuses do get included in the backstab calculation, e.g. weapon and proficiency bonuses.corey_russell wrote...

It's +5 to damage in this case. I was aware of this, but only recently figured that it is the reason why, for example, doubling damage by backstab could yield an odd number.Grond0 wrote...
