I was actually thinking thief, but he's just been killed anyway outside Cloakwood mines.  I carelessly didn't have the green amulet protection on and got confused by Kysus.

Good luck to everyone still going.  The game I was waiting for has arrived so I'll take a break from Baldurs Gate now and look to come back to it fresh in a while.

EDIT: Condolences Grond0, enjoy "the other game".

Fovin, LG male elf beast master. With a pocket familiar.
Gads, a kensai is on my heels. Must crack on.

Baldur's Gate.
A tome of dexterity first, then I tell Scar I'm too busy and require an audience with Duke Eltan. No need to fight the Iron Throne thugs, instead I sneak a look at a desk and threaten Thaldorn. Then I purchase a set of potions, grab the helm and cloak of Balduran.

Duke Eltan hands me a book and sends me home.

Candlekeep.
I sprint to the top floor but nobody wants to talk to me. On my way down I am told Rieltar is waiting outside but when I arrive I am arrested instead. Tethtoril releases me.

Catacombs.
Potions of mind focusing, cloud giant strength, fire resistance, absorbtion and freedom. I check my boots of speed and set off. I add a potion of regeneration and soon have two tomes, a ring, a scroll and a rogue stone. I stroll past doppelgangers, Prat, Diarmid and out into freedom.

More shopping, selling what I can to purchase a magical quarterstaff from Ulgoths Beard.

Slythe and Krystin.
DUHM and the quarterstaff chunk Slythe, I take the invitations from his remains and leave Krystin to a solitary life.

Cythandria.
Great. Zhalimar Cloudewulfe and gang have hung around. I sneak past them and make my presence known.
Posted Image

Duke Eltan.
Cythandria tells me about Slythe, Krystin and Cythandria. Oops, premonition struck again. Kent tells me Rashad is no healer so I grab Eltan as Rashad starts buffing. We wait in another room and before long the buffs expire. A few arrows and the job is done, then the duke is spirited away to safety.

The Coronation.Didn't want to use the stairs but had to.
I'm running out of cash, can only afford acid arrows. I cast DUHM and interrupt the ceremony. Even with an oil of speed I can't fight quickly enough, and have to flee upstairs. One doppelganger follows so I kill it. On my return I see Liia die, then two more chase me up again so I kill them too. level up, 78k xp and level 7.

I am forced upstairs again, kill the penultimate doppelganger and return to help with the last. Sarevok turns hostile and kills two guards before leaving. Belt sends me after him.

End game.
I can't afford any more items, which means no arrows of dispelling. Could be interesting. The oil of speed is still active so I get through the thieves maze in record time. No enemies spot me but I activate a fireball trap despite trying to follow the Grondo-wall line.

I sneak past Rahvin and his mercenaries, then past Tamoko and into the temple. I use the scroll of protection from magic and introduce myself. Sarevok and Angelo take the bait while Semaj wastes his spells. I manage to hide.
Posted Image

I start attacking Semaj until he uses his tattoo of power and a fireball. Angelo has joined him so I hide. I check that remove magic has been cast, and so it is safe for me to buff. Mind focusing, absorbtion, heroism, invulnerability, fire resistance and cloud giant strength are followed by an oil of speed.

Back to Angelo with my quarterstaff. I move away, expecting Tazok to appear and am proved right. He has no protections so I switch to my bow and start with him. I have wandered, and a battle horror joins in. Angelo has hit me despite my 127% fire resistance so I glug a regeneration potion then go from one end of the temple to the other and hide.

Angelo gets a quarterstaff in the face, I run away and return to do the same again.
Posted Image

With Sarevok pillared and Angelo gone I feel safer. My next few moves are tough as I try to keep a photogenic shot of Tazok dying. Here it is.
Posted Image

I sneak up on Semaj and hit him hard. I run away, and kill him with a second blow.
Posted Image

I need the battle horror removed if Sarevok is hasted. A single hit does the job so Angelo and Semaj must have softened it up.
Posted Image

I check my buffs, then move in on Sarevok. I hit him for 20, fail to hide but he has stopped the other side of a pillar so I hide on my second attempt. A hit for 22 and I hide again. 19 and hidden. 21 and hidden, he is injured now. 23 and hidden. 22, trying to guard note to self, hide is F6 guard is F5 so a few loops before hiding. 23, hidden and badly injured. 21 and hidden.

He's tough. 19, hidden and badly wounded. 24, hidden, near death. 24, hidden. 23, job done.
Posted Image

I look around carefully in case a kensai has got here before me.

Edit: level 7, 123 enemies with Angelo being the most XP.

Yes will start in a day or two, probably a party. Jan, not sure who else yet but need a tank. Possibly Mazzy for a change.

XP was very low, 60k at the coronation and I only did Sarevok's gang after that. Angelo was something like 15k, not sure about the others but the SOA save after the transition is 122k so guess they were about 15k each, ie the four of them were almost 50% of my total xp?

The only "extras" I remember were Marl, Firebead, Noober, Joseph's wife, Mirianne, Aldeth and Lamahla. I sneaked past Hareishan, Zhalimar, Prat, Rahvin and Tamoko.

Good luck to all current runners...

Congrats, Gate70 and condolances, Grond0.

Another quick failed run : Justify M D F/C. Collected Imoen, carefully moved out to the FAI (Tarnesh & Joia), added Ajantis, offed the belted ogre, cleared most of the map, moved into Beregost for easy quests, cleared much of the map below (Mirianne's ring, 5 potions of healing). Easily dropped Karlat with a Command spell, nice spell.

I was still deciding on party members, and decided to try to add Garrick... although at L1/L2 for the party, I knew it would be a stretch. Silke managed to go Improved Invisible despite my best efforts (Imoen with a backstab, Justify with dual axes, and Ajantis with a bow) and the party ran for cover in the inn. Due to whatever reason, Silke managed to get off a lightning bolt before it would let me area transition, and the bolt reflected off the inn for two strikes on Justify. Even famous dwarf saving throws were far insufficient.

New entry: James, M H Inquisitor (first attempt IIRC as a Paladin).

"Despite Winthrop's jolly mood, he seemed unwilling to give me much of a discount. Using the money Gorion had provided and what I had managed to scavange by helping other people with trivial tasks, I was barely able to afford a simple long bow and some arrows. Even the composite bow on the wall was more than I could manage. Perhaps this was a portent of things to come: my travels were not starting well.

"I don't blame Winthrop: he does have to be able to eat, and I'm sure his costs for that bow weren't much less than what I paid. But those facts were little consolation when Gorion was cut down that very night as we left Candlekeep, and I had neither sword or armor to come to his defense. As a result, there was little for me to do but flee, as my mentor had required.

"Imoen joined me the next morning, apparently she's been keeping secrets. We visited the scene of slaughter, and buried Gorion. She also had naught but a bow and some arrows, so we decided the best plan was to stay off the road and head towards Beregost. I hope the items we found -- when sold -- will be enough to at the least buy me a great sword and some light armor.

"But even that trip has been perilous. By accident, we stumbled into a single skeleton, and it gravely wounded the both of us before we managed to remind it to stay dead a second time. Hopefully the rest of the journey to Beregost will be less eventful: we are obviously unsuited for any kind of real combat against dangerous foes."

@After5CST: Did you tell your inquisitor to attack that skeleton with his fists? Fists are blunt damage I believe, which skeletons are vulnerable to. You would also force it to switch to its melee weapon, which is less dangerous than its mass of throwing daggers.

Condolences on your being bolted to death, and good luck with your new entry.

Good thought. I hadn't considered fists. Knock 'em down with fists and then use an arrow for the kill (since IIRC fists just render things unconscious unless you're a monk).

Quick testing indicates that the "no melee weapon equipped" penalty extends to (non-monk) fists... the skeleton is getting +4 to hit (and presumably damage) with his sword. Or so it seems.

Log indicates the following:
Skeleton- Attack Roll 10 + 0 = 10 : Miss (James had a dagger equipped for testing)
Skeleton- Attack Roll 12 + 4 = 16 : Hit (James had fist equipped for testing)
Skeleton- Attack Roll 8 + 4 = 12 : Miss (James had bow equipped for testing)

As a result, I'd probably be best off closing to melee range and using the dagger, just to force the skeleton to stop throwing the daggers at range.

Asati continues he struggle with SCS:

From the Firewins Ruins party got to Gullykin and robbed the village (grabbbing a second sling +1 among other things), killing the priest (after silencing him) and Jenkal, who surprised me with his invisibillity potions.

On tte way back to Beregost party stopped at Ulcaster’s School’s ruins. Hobgoblin wih Boots of Stealth was nowhere to be seen. I wonder why? Icharyd killed Kagain with Call Lightning, which was rather irritating, since there was no cating animation and it’s not even a cleric spell. Had to pay 600 gold at the temple after the hurried flight (Xzar also got hit, but saved and was lucky enough to suffer only 8 damage).

In Beregost Asati approached Tranzig. After Nimbul I dreaded this encounter, fearing that he may start with a Time Stop or something, but after killing Molkar’s mage I decided it might not be so bad. It wasn’t, but Tranzig put whole party to sleep, apart from Viconia, of course. She gulped a potion of magic resistance (just in case) and killed the mage, while party slept in the town’s most expensive inn for free.

Posted Image

When party was exiting the inn, assassins attacked. They turned back and run upstairs, leaving Kagain to guard the entrance. Asati took Howard into the backpack and cloaked herself with invisibillity, Viconia used Sanctuary, while Shar-Teel and Montaron hid in shadows. Xzar used Kagin as a shield and run outside, heading in the direction of Jovial Juggler. Kagain took one backstab, drunk potion of extra healing and run too. Rest soon followed. Everyone managed to get out os sight, but the assassins where still coming, so party left the location using the eastern edge. Then, they reentered Beregost from the north. Moments after arrival I noticed ‘Silke – Attacks Maneira’ messege in the log. Montaron went to investigate. He met Maneira on his way. She stopped next to him and stayed there for some time. Meanwhile I got messege stating that one of the other asssassins targeted Asati – autopause didn’t work earlier as I already had Maneira in sight. Waiting for Monatron, party had to stand their ground. Xzar was chunked by Telka’s critical backstab, who then retreated and have taken half of Asati’s hitpoints with a fire arrow, interrupting the invisibillity spell. I haven't thought about kicking Montaron out and leaving location, so the game appeared lost. But Telka missed her second shot and was engaged by Shar-Teel, while Asati quaffed invisibillity potion. With no further backstabs, fight was easily won (well, Shar-Teel was held, but Viconia returned the favour).

Posted Image

I was much annoyed with the ‘all-knowing enemies’ bug, but Xzar’s messy death was a fortunate event – I could get Edwin (level 4, 17 HP) in his place. Shar-Teel regained her fighter abillities as she reached level 5 (others reaching this level soon after). She took Shadow Armor, Boots of Stealth and Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise from Montaron, along with most of his scouting and backstabbing responsibilities.

After Edwin’s quest was taken care off (with a well placed backstab), party went to the basilisk area. I didn’t know what ‘improved basilisks’ could mean, but decided that it might have something to do with attacking the unprotected party members, so Shar-Teel killed them all by herself, using the protection scroll from Carnival. Using it at the last moment, I might add – during the preparations (which included casting strenght on Shar-Teel and invisibillity on Asati) I forgot about the scroll and noticed the lack of protection only after Shar-Teel failed her stealth roll and was attacked by two basilisks.

I did not want know what spells Mutamin might have had – Shar-Teel chunked him with backstab, before he could even turn hostile. With the help of Silence, Korax the Ghoul and Shar-Teel’s backstab, Kirian’s party was killed, before anyone of them managed to move.

Posted Image

Soon after, some group of bandits suffered similiar fate (although the leader not only blinked, but also gulped a potion right before being chunked).

Posted Image

Sirines were next. Shar-Teel managed to backstab them all without any special preperations (but there was need for Invisibillity Purge at some point). Backstabbing the golems was even easier and Kagain raised his constitution to 21.

There where some other wild surges (4 to be more precise). Nothing tragic, but one interesting – Asati polymorphed a normal wolf into a white one.

Time had finally come to deal with the Bandit Camp. Shar-Teel sneaked to the talkative bandit in Larswood, and party was transported to face Tazok. He managed to escape despite many Flame Arrows prepared (I should have saved Shar-Teel's backstab until later). While exploring the camp Shar-Teel discovered that ‘you must gather your party’ before entering the main tent. I didn’t recall installing any ‘random bugs’ component, so I couldn’t do much about it. Instead, I decided to herd the bandits and kill them with AOE spells. I didn’t expect to get the same bug as with assassins – as soon as some bandit was hit by Shar-Teel’s bolt, he rushed in Asati’s direction (who was waiting along with the others at the map’s edge), with Taugosz Khosann following him. I didn’t bother to check if the rest of the camp was coming as well (they did, as it soon turned out) and ordered the whole party to run for the southwestern corner of the map. When first of the bandits arrived there (with Taugosz and Shar-Teel at his back), he ‘sounded the alarm’. Getting hit by a crossbow bolt was not alarming enough, it seems.
Anyway, Taugosz was horrified and held (Hold Person and wand of paralysis at the same moment), while Montaron and Kagain where dealing with others. Shar-Teel managed to finish and loot Taugosz just in time to run, before she could be swarmed. Party continued fighting for a while, but when Venkt appeared (I wonder if had to ‘gather his party before venturing forth’ too), they escaped.

Posted Image

They reentered the camp from another side, but it seemed that the bandits knew Asati's location no matter what. I decided to uninstall ‘better calls for help’, but it didn’t help. ‘If you can’t kill it, take an advantage of it’ the old saying goes. Asati did just that. She led her party to FAI and prepared 5 Skull Traps, then entered the camp from south and started casting, along with Edwin. When bandtis arrived and some of them died, party retreated, rested, and entered the camp from the west, cast some traps, and repeated this many times. It took me some time to notice that the enemies were healing themselved in the meanwhile. I started stacking the traps instead of spreading them. After a few weeks all the bandits were dead.

Posted Image

From the important corpses I only failed to loot Venkt’s. Twice party had a Cloakwood-like encounters and killed some wyverns. There also had been an interesting bug, as one of the Chill hobgoblins suddenly appeared among the party.

Then, party cleared most of the other remaining areas, the one with ankhegs, among others. Ankhegs all died due to Montaron's and Shar-Teel's backstabs (with Kagain acting as a bait) and all their shells were stashed. Some items were bought: Cloak of Displacement, Horn of Kazgaroth (Kagain) and Claw of Kazgaroth (Shar-Teel). Viconia should have her ankheg armor ready in a few days. Some wild surges occurred, one of them summoning a horde of squirrels. Edwin learned fireball, both him and Asati learned web also. Shar-Teel had two critical backstabs dealing more then 100 damage.

Posted Image

The other one was dealt to an ankheg.

Party status:
Asati – wild mage 6, 35 HP, favourite spell: Cure Light Wounds (Don’t know why, as she rarely use it, afraid of finishing the wounded fellow with a wild surge.)
Kagain – fighter 6, 78 HP
Montaron – fighter 5/thief 6, 32 HP, find traps 65%
Shar-Teel – fighter 4/thief 6, 37 HP, still better at forcing the locks then picking them (but with a potion was able to open everything in the Camp)
Viconia – cleric 6, 33 HP
Edwin – conjurer 5, 22 HP, favourite spell: Skull Trap

Previous Post: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/181/index/3124065/213#10059086

"After surviving the skeleton attack, we attempted to reach the E side of the building at High Hedge, where we were attacked by two Gnolls.  Managing to kill them at range was not difficult, as they had no ranged weapons of their own.  I debated whether such an unfair fight was something I should be involved in, but Imoen had no compunction whatsoever.  Finding a sword with 'Perdue' marked into the handle, we abandoned our quest to reach the entrace of the building and headed back towards Beregost, where things should be safer and we might find out where this cowardly Perdue fellow might be (if he were still alive) or where the courageous Perdue's family might have been (if he met an unfortunate end seeking glory and honor).

"We reached Beregost without further incident, thankfully.  After a chance meeting with Firebead, we stepped across the street to Feldepost's inn to see if he had a book that Firebead was seeking.  Fortune indeed shines on the righteous, for not only did we manage to acquire Firebead's book, we also managed to console a local who was rather upset about the death of his son.  As an added bonus, Feldepost had one old two-handed sword that he was willing to sell us (at a not-quite fair price, I am sure), so I finally had a weapon to wield.

"Feldepost told us that this Perdue was indeed alive, and apparently a regular patron at the Red Sheaf, an inn of poor reputation.  Nonetheless, I felt obligated to return his weapon to him, even though it seemed obvious that he would rather run from evil and drown his sorrows in ale than fight for the good.

"Coming in the door to the Red Sheaf, a dwarf assassin named Karlat apparently saw us as his bounty.  Surprisingly, Detect Evil did not find his murderous intent, and Imoen and I were forced to defend ourselves at range once again.  We fled through the streets of Beregost, firing arrows as we could at our opponent.  In time, he finally fell.  It is an ill wind that blows nobody good: his own greed led to his death, but also to my finally acquiring a usable set of chain mail.  Thankfully, it was a little large on him: it is tight enough for me that anything smaller would have been a problem.

"Imoen followed me as I went to the temple of Lathandar to make a donation as a token of my gratitude.  She was obviously amazed at our generosity of 50 gp -- nearly half of our remaining funds.  It took her several minutes before she was sufficiently recovered even to speak to me, so awed was she of the power of righteousness.

"Sadly, it didn't seem to last long... as we left the temple, a drunk attempted to hold us up before collapsing, unconscious.  She told me that she was just checking to make sure he was just asleep, but apparently neither he was completely asleep nor she completely honest -- he started yelling "Thief!" in his slurred voice.  The two of us beat a hasty retreat to the town.  I hope and pray that the gods will have mercy on her and on myself, despite her moment of weakness.

"We understand that a dwarf merchant in town has need of some adventurers, and since we are low on cash, we plan to seek him out on the morrow to see if it's a job that we can do."

Great work and interesting reading, everyone.

@After5: Glad to see you doing some narrative writing. I love the way you're getting into yours and Imoen's heads and developing motivations, thoughts, etc. The way you write the interaction between Imoen and Inquisitor James is very funny. I laughed aloud (literally and really) at the "awed was she at the power of righteousness" line. James has a lot to learn about his little sister. ;)

I'm fairly sure you'd win, even on normal game speed. I tend to spend an OCD hour or more huddled around a chest tidying up inventories.

I learnt a lot that run, could probably cut items right down. I might think about it and have a go at how quick I can manage. Perhaps a stalker for backstabs would be even quicker too.

Previous Post: http://social.biowar...65/213#10070168

"It took some doing, but we finally found this Kagain.  There was a caravan that had gone missing, and he wanted someone to determine its fate.  What luck: a rescue mission!  Surely this was a chance for us to redeem ourselves after Imoen's momentary weakness!

"I readily accepted the mission, despite Imoen's reluctance: I suspect she wanted to spend more time in Beregost, admiring the town and shopping for new outfits.  The cash reward was fairly minimal, but we could use what little cash was offered, and there should never be charge for righteousness.  Kagain insisted on coming with us: Imoen wrinkled her nose at the idea ( I guess she doesn't like his smell ), but another warrior was yet another added boon to the adventure.

"Heading North from Nashkel, Kagain told us to look East of the road, so we began our exhaustive search.  After a ruined wagon and some normal wilderness creatures, we discovered an Ogre who proved to be both a capable challenge and an example of Good triumphing over evil.
Posted Image
James-Belted Ogre on Flickr

"The Ogre had a couple of magic belts on him, but nothing that Kagain recognized as part of the caravan.  It seemed only right that, as the front warrior in the party, I should take the Girdle of Piercing, as it seems to provide superior protection against arrow attacks.  It turned out to be a gift from Lathandar, as shortly after that we discovered the raided caravan, and a bandit leader with three archer escorts.  Kagain recognized the caravan as his own, the bandit leader declared that we would have to die, and I charged the leader, ready to bring justice to the slaughtered victims.

"The battle was short, as the power of Lathandar and the magic girdle provided superior protection against the arrows of the enemy, and Imoen and Kagain from a distance killed the lackeys as I focused on the bandit leader.  Kagain seemed even more upset after the battle, though.  He said something about his fortune, but I think it was really his remorse for the death of Silvershield's son.  It is a grevious wrong, and though I mourn his passing, it provides us with another quest to bring news to the family and aid them in their grief.

"Scouring the area for any remaining bandits, we encountered an old man, who reminded me of Gorion's friends at the Friendly Arm Inn.  One of the old man's hints also lead to discovery of a magic ring, yet another favour from Lathandar for our pursuit of righteousness.  Kagain was rather despondant, not even willing to come to my call for daily prayers in the morning, but I attributed it to his grief for Silvershield's son.  It particularly seemed to bother him that he had lost his fortune so he could not make proper reparations to the family.

"Travelling North to the Friendly Arm Inn, Lathandar smiled on us once again: we were able to aid a damsel, and recover a ring for her -- as well as discover another magic ring that we currently cannot use.  With Lathandar's blessing, and the morning of a new day, we also easily overcame an assassin mage who seemed intent on trying to destroy me for some bounty.  While he was able to use his accursed magic to protect himself with Mirror Images, Lathandar allowed me to cut a mighty blow through him -- not an image -- with my first swing and bring him to the end worthy of evildoers.

"Within the inn, we discovered two more people in aid of the Light: Landrin, who needs some spiders purged from her house, and Unshey, who apparently lost the Girdle of Piercing that I was wearing.  With thankfulness to Lathandar for the loan, and a slight twinge of regret, I returned the girdle to Unshey.   I must need to spend more time in devotion to Lathandar.  The group made a quick trip to Beregost to aid Landrin.  Ridding her house of giant spiders turned out to be a trivial task with bows, and we soon returned to inform her of the good news.

"We also used some of our new-found wealth to purchase a gem bag from Bentley.  He has informed us that Khalid and Jaheria are in fact staying at the inn, and I plan to make their acquaintance in the morning.  After that, my plan is to visit the nearby temple, so that all can rejoice with me that Lathandar has given so much to us that we may give in return."

Right, won't continue previous run into SOA yet. Instead I'll try a timed run, based on times from save game slot to quick/auto save. It won't be as quick as is possible but will be a bit quicker than my last (quickest to date) run for as long as I survive.

Wreys, CG male elf beast master.

Str 18/68
Dex 19
Con 17
Int 11
Wis 16
Cha 14

Total 95 on 2nd roll. I'll take that.
** long bow, ** quarterstaff. Added * in two handed weapon style at level up.

Part 1.
I equip my quarterstaff, take some cash, a necklace and a potion of clarity from the inn. Trade the necklace to purchase a helmet, composite longbow and 320 arrows. Then I leave with Gorion and briefly mourn his passing.

Imoen, Xzar and Montaron donate healing potions, two oils of speed and studded leather armour. Xzar has a couple of scrolls, and I grab a diamond from a nearby tree. I make time to pacify Marl and purchase a book for Firebead while selling other items.

I head south, killing two ogrillions to retrieve a letter, and a hobgoblin for his boots. Life on the road is lonely so I summon a fairy dragon to occupy my backpack.

Time taken : 10 minutes 49 seconds.

Part 2.

Letter to Mirianne for ring of protection. Ankheg plate and pearl. Brage, 400gp for identified sword. Girdle of piercing. Ring of fire protection.

Nashkel mine. Just 2 spiders to reach level 3, then Mulahey. Some time spent here as I kept missing Mulahey. I stop outside the collapsed entrance.

Time taken : 28 minutes 57 seconds.
Total : 39 minutes 46 seconds (I think, it's late).

Not as quick as I thought it would be, those extra little bits each add time.

Right, won't continue previous run into SOA yet. Instead I'll try a timed run, based on times from save game slot to quick/auto save. It won't be as quick as is possible but will be a bit quicker than my last (quickest to date) run for as long as I survive.

Hope you enjoy it.  One of the reasons for using a ranger (or other stealthy character) is to allow you to minimise fighting.  As you're discovering there's actually very little equipment that is necessary if you carry on like that, so you can minimise time spent in inventory (I agree that stopping yourself picking up treasure is hard for us OCD typesPosted Image).

I usually do a basic routine but I do have a rough idea of how long it takes me(eight or nine) hours if I really want to. But it's been difficult.

Wreys, CG male elf beast master.
Timed run, based on times from save game slot to quick/auto save.

Part 3.
Back to Nashkel, returning Josephs ring to his wife, informing Berrun Ghastkill, identifying/selling a holy ring, short sword +1 and boots of grounding. Nimbul is killed by the guards, I keep his boots and sell his short sword, ring and axes.

I grab a ring of wizardry on my way to Ulgoths Beard, purchasing a quarterstaff at the store but he won't identify anything for me. I can't find the bandit camp so have to face Tranzig. I scare him quickly but take another dozen arrows to kill him. Time is ticking away but I have reached the bandit camp.

Time taken : 12 minutes 48 seconds.
Total : 52 minutes 34 seconds.

Part 4.
I sneak past Taugosz Khosann and his guards, to the back of the tent and kill Hakt with three arrows. Venkt and Britik turn hostile while Raemon shouts. I open a trapped chest and grab the contents and run, stopping briefly to glug a blue potion. Venkt casts horror as I go past him and I panic. Where is the exit, I can't find it. Help!

Raemon hits me with magical arrows while Venkt Melfs me. Dead.

Had hoped I could get out of the door beforehand, looks like a potion of clarity or oil of speed is required or possibly best to just loot the chest and stick with the composite bow instead - think the damage may be better than the fine bow?

Consolations there, Gate70 -- I suppose "dead" is one way to have a "quick" run!

Vrog, LG male elf beast master.
Timed run, based on times from save game slot to quick/auto save.

Part 1.
I keep a potion of clarity, trade a necklace for a composite bow, arrows and helmet. Briefly mourn the passing of a friend again.

Imoen hands me some potions, Montaron some studded leather armour and Xzar a pair of spells to sell. I grab a diamond from a tree and enter Beregost. I sell what I can, cheer Marl up and hand Firebead a book.

To the south I kill two ogrillions and a booted hobgoblin, then stumble across ankheg plate and a pearl. Noober bores me, so I retrieve Captain Brage, speak to Berrun Ghastkill, Oublek and the identifying storekeep.

A belted ogre doesn't take long to kill, nor does Zal. Vax chases me around until I can kill him time wasted here.

In Nashkel mine I kill two spiders, a trio of kobolds outside Mulaheys hideaway, four more kobolds inside and say hello. He chases me behind a large puddle, and I hit him with two arrows as he retreats. I draw his skeletons and kobolds one at a time, then snipe at Mulahey before retreating into shadows. This takes more valuable time but is safely done.

Back in Nashkel I return a greenstone ring to a widow, obtain a reward from Berrun Ghastkill, kill Nimbul from the shadows as no guards are around then sell some more identified items.

Time taken : 50 minutes 49 seconds. Differences; haven't got the fire resistance ring or been to Ulgoths Beard but have the bracers.

Part 2.
Tranzig dies scared, I purchase a quarterstaff at Ulgoths Beard and steal letters from the bandit camp. I make a run for it but they chase me outside. I have to run around them and face a volley of bandit arrows. I glug a blue potion but Venkt casts horror.

Dead again. Oil of speed here I think but will switch to SOA for a while. Wondering if a monk might be a good choice as I'm spending a lot of time traversing maps but suspect a different strategy would be required.

@Gate70: what about cleric/thief? Then you could use sanctuary to loot the letters without being seen, but still use stealth in other situations.
