Diary of “Divine Conqueror”
Day 7
To my horror, after leaving Candlekeep, we were attacked by a group of assassins, and during the attack, my mentor Gorion was brutally slain. I attempted to return to Candlekeep, but the gates were barred to me. However I did manage to arrange for Gorion’s burial. The guard suggested that I go and pick up Gorion’s effects. There wasn’t much that was useful to me other than some bags of holding for gems, scrolls and potions and a letter. The letter suggested that I go to the Friendly Arms Inn, but suspecting that my ambushers may have read the letter, went in the opposite direction. I went via Beregost where I helped Marl come to terms with the death of his son and coming across Melicamp, who was in the form of a chicken, tried to help him too, but failed. I carried on to Nashkel where I was asked to go to the mines and search for Joseph who has gone missing. However as the mines are infested with demons, that may well have to wait until I am better equipped. Just North of Nashkel, I was given a ring that increased my charisma. This is useful, for a staff that I found on the body of an assassin, whilst being quite powerful, seems to have the effect of reducing my charisma.

My equipment was improved somewhat when a member of the Flaming Fist assaulted me. In Beregost I was assaulted by spiders. I ran for my life as there were several of them. One of them even followed me into an inn and upstairs. I got trapped in a room with a fellow called Algernon who made no move to help, so I charmed him with the ring. Together we fought the beast and prevailed but sadly Algernon died in the fight. Upon his body I found a charisma increasing cloak which can be used to charm others [/b]{I have put the self-imposed limit of only using it once per day on myself}. Why he didn’t use it to charm the spider when I was being attacked, I have no idea. I was able to kill the remaining spiders myself.

Day 9
I agreed to help Silke until she wanted me to commit murder. With the encouragement of the Cloak of Algernon, those she wanted me to murder helped in the fight against her. The battle was touch and go, but we did prevail, though I was badly hurt and two of those I was trying to save got killed as well. On the plus side, she won’t murder anyone else and I found a potion of defence on each body.

I was asked to deal with the madman Bassilus. This I did by charming him and enlisting his help against Zargal. That was a tough fight also, but we prevailed and we then finished off everything hostile in the area. Whilst doing so, I discovered that Bassilus cheats.  No wonder he is such a powerful enemy! When casting a spell, it is immediately replaced by another one! I took advantage of this to create an army of skeletons, far more than is allowed. I surrounded him with these, and then caused him to bless the army, cast chant and finally to call lightning on himself. He went hostile, so the army of skeletons then killed him.

Day 13
After taking the symbol of Bassilus to the temple, I returned to Beregost and helped Alanna’s neighbour get back into shape, helped the Dudley’s sort out their differences, and found a book for Firebead. The result of all this is that I am now officially a “hero”. I don’t feel much like one however. With my gold I have bought a travel robe and a wand of sleep. I now have the vast sum of 6 gold pieces to my name. At least I am able to keep to vows regarding poverty.

Day 20
I have ben to the cave on the western coast and plundered it. The sirenes in the area were very aggressive, but despite them confusing me, I managed to defeat them. Holy Smite was useful against the carrion crawlers. The flesh golems however did not trouble me. Heading south I helped an archaeologist and Brage, ending up in Nashkel. In the carnival I sold some of the loot, and used it for buying a shield amulet and an amulet of protection. I then took on Zordral. The shield amulet was invaluable. The battle was long due to him casting slow on me, but he eventually ran out of spells and I prevailed against him. I have used the proceeds of the battle to buy a protection from acid scroll. I have reached level 6 and now have a reputation of 20, as any good paladin should have.

Day 28
I helped a priestess against some evil fishermen and cleared the area of Ankheg. I also returned the body of a farmer’s son to him, but was unable to help him further. Clearing the Ankheg, I used all my healing potions. I have now reached level 7 in experience.
Though I defeated many enemies, I eventually fell to the mighty Khaark.
He actually is pretty powerful unlike so many who boast.Image IPB

Update of Grim Face & Co (final, sad but true...)

The Crew cleared all Cloakwood forest nearly flawless. The only event worth mentioning is that Amarande pertified Jaheira with Chromatic Orb (not something I expected from the druid...). But even tho Grim Face avenged Jaheira and made the whole trip to the temple to buy Stone to Flesh scroll she proved to be his doom in the end... When Rezdan hit with Confusion, all except Viconia and Dynaheir were affected. And then Jaheira critical hit Grim Face (5 hp left)... Viconia tried (successfully) distract her but Khalid proved to be a loyal husband and delivered a final blow...

Hmm, when I first ready your post Serg, I didn't realize that was your final one! To be offed by own party members, a tough way to go...I too am glad you enjoyed your run. Wish you the best for your next one.

Thanks, friends!  Yeah, I didn't expect such behaviour from my favorite NPC (Jaheira) but life is continues so meet my new participant - Gloomy Face, an elven Mage/Thief (I desperately lacked the skills of thieves in my last run...). Setup is the same - EasyTuTu with AI SCS components:

Image IPB Image IPB

Progress so far:
Joined Imoen and immediately went to the Beregost. Calmed Marl, book for Firebead, Mirianne's letter, spider's house, Zhurlong's boots, some house looting (Wand of Lightning, Potion of Invisibility) and cleared an area south of Beregost.

Current party state:

Gloomy Face - Mage 1 / Thief 2, 38 kills, Ghast
Imoen - Thief 3, 27 kills, Ghast

to be continued...

Exciting news! Or at least to me it is...will soon be attempting a multi-player no-reload. That is, I control one character and another human (my wife in this case) will be the other. We will be playing on a LAN. More details forthcoming, but for now will leave you with a little short story she wrote about this:

*****
"Badgirl?" he called.

"yes" I say rising my head off the table.

"Gorion was killed, his ward needs a blade to accompany him on a journey. Is yours available?"

I pull my dagger from the table where I had planted it earlier. "If there is killing and looting to be had, my blade is available." An evil smile cracks my half-elf face.

He deposits a sack of gold on the table. I scoop it up, give it a jingle and stash it in my backpack.

"It's done" I say. "where do I meet this child fighter I have to babysit?"

He steps back a few feet and turns to the door. "At Gorion's...and Badgirl" he says as he slips from the tavern "He is a Cleric/Mage."

"WHAT?!" I erupt "I am heading off to battle with a skirt?! Bah! squishy casters...I will not carry his corpse. If he dies, he dies. If we should survive then I shall walk with him until we part at Bhaal's throne."

I grumble as I gather my things. "that is if I don't kill him first." I laugh.

Best of luck Corey. I'll be interested to hear how it plays on a LAN - possibly lag will be less of an issue than over the internet.

Indeed, lag should not be an issue. The fact that my wife hasn't played BG in like 10 years might be though...she's been kind of doing no-reloads vicariously by reading my no-reload posts lately. Seems like she wants a bit more active role this go around....

Goodguy and Badgirl MULTIPLAYER no-reload update

A PC named "Goodguy" is entering the no-reload challenge. This will be a duo endeavor, just as Grond0/Gate70 is. Badgirl, goodguy's fellow Bhaalspawn, is controlled by another human (my wife in this case).

Here is the setup:
Goodguy: Windows 7 Home Edition, Laptop, wireless networking
Badgirl: Windows XP home edition, desktop, cable networking
Vanilla BG 1
Tales of the Sword Coast
Official Tales of the Sword Coast patch
core rules
no mods

Here are their character sheets (they are clickable):

Image IPB
Image IPB

Somewhat fortunately, after our son witnessed Goodguy and Badgirl play together to do the Candlekeep quests, we were just about to leave when he said he wanted to play with us So we saved and started a new game. In this new game (not no-reload), Badgirl got some invaluable experience "shaking the rust offf" so to speak. In this "test" game Badgirl's character and my son's character got too close to a bear, and both of them were one-shotted. They then witnessed Goodguy kiting the bear until it finally died. Since that was not no-reload we reloaded...

Once the kids went to bed, then we went back to our no-reload run. Things were going very smooth at first. We intended to sell the ring of wizardry at FAI. So we got there, Goodguy indentified it, then reset his spells including remove fear (in the run with our son, Goodguy forgot to put resist fear up and the whole party got feared -- the guards managed to kill Tarnesh before any casualties though).

Well back to the no-reload. So Goodguy did put up remove fear and Badgirl showed herself to Tarnesh. Goodguy tried a command it got resisted. Goodguy then tried blind -- it worked! Badgirl thought she told her character to move away, but it didn't. So despite being blinded, she was close enough for Tarnesh to magic missile her dead - the first death of the duo.
Image IPB
Goodguy managed to slay Tarnesh with his sling, wasn't too hard with Tarnesh blinded....

The party then got their upgrades at the FAI, most notable being plate mails and +1 shields for each member of the duo. Because Goodguy can still be one-shotted by an arrow, he wears his armor all times except when fighting an opponent that arcane spells are needed. They headed to Beregost.

At Beregost, Goodguy got an upgraded sling. At FAI the duo got antidotes, so dealt with the spiders. Thanks to Goodguy's sleep spell, it was done at little risk to the duo. Since still in Beregost, the duo also dealt with the dwarven assassin in one of the inns - he too got blinded and was slinged to death. (both members of the duo are using slings for ranged weapons). Marl was calmed down, and Firebeard got this dang book...

We then traveled just south of Beregost and met two ogrillions - a sleep spell rendered them harmless and they were taken down with our slings. We brought their letter to Merrianne and she gave us a ring which Badgirl duly equipped since Goodguy had one already.

We continued traveling south and dealt with a few bandits along the way, with the party taking no damage at all.

In Nashkel, Goodguy claimed the Ankheg armor, mainly to help with looting issues. We then dealt with Neira. Neira resisted blindness, but Badgirl also resisted Neira's hold. Then next round Neira failed to resist a command and was destroyed. Nice news as result of the battle - the first level of the duo -- Badgirl leveled her thief class, of course.
Image IPB

We sold our loot at this point and our gold is over 2000 now...we can afford a long sword for Badgirl to give her  a magical weapon that is also backstab-able. But for now we talked to Noober and saved our game, to continue the session another night.

@Grond0: We did encounter SOME lag, however, it never interfered with our play and was rather seldom.

All the best Corey!

The Diary of Staff Seeker, a Chaotic Good Svirfneblin Fighter/Illusionist Str 18/80, Dex 19, Con 17, Int 19, Wis 18, Cha 2

SVIRFNEBLIN: Also known as deep gnomes, the deep gnomes of the Realms are a secretive, mysterious race. Found in the deepest caverns of the Underdark, the svirfneblin live in constant fear of slavery or destruction at the hands of dark elves, mind flayers, and duergar. Deep gnomes are legendary for their ability to handle stone and gems. They have grey skin and white hair.
- ADVANTAGES: +1 to Dexterity, +1 to Wisdom, +20 to Stealth, Magic
Resistance of 50% and +2% every level thereafter to a maximum of 80%, + 1 to hit vs.  kobolds, goblins and hobgoblins, +4 bonus to AC, Mirror Image 1/day, Invisibility 1/day, Blur 1/day and Non-detection.
- DISADVANTAGES: -2 to Charisma, -1 to Constitution and -30% experience modifier

I am trying this to find out if the magical resistance and other advantages is balanced by the -30% experience modifier.

Day 2

After the death of Gorion I headed back to Candlekeep to arrange for his burial. I was not surprised that I was not allowed back in, knowing Ulraunt as I do. I know what a stickler he is for the rules. As suggested by Gorion, I headed for The Friendly Arms Inn and on the way I found a diamond, a ring of protection and a ring of wizardry.
Day 5
I headed southwards to avoid further attacks and was approached by Oublek who thought that I was the bounty hunter called Greywolf and tried to give me gold that he was owed. I wisely declined the gold as Greywolf has quite a reputation, and I wouldn’t like to cross him.
I improved my reputation somewhat by doing some babysitting. Now that really is heroic work!
I also found some bracers that will come in handy.
Day 6
Having made my presence known in Nashkel, I returned to Beregost. There I helped Marl come to terms with the death of his son and acquired a book for Firebead.
Day 9
I delivered a letter found upon the body of an ogrillon that I killed, and donned the armour worn by an overly officious member of the Flaming Fist.
Day 10
I was able to return Joia’s ring to her and helped a woman who was being pestered by her dead husband. Bentley has advised us to see if we can help at Nashkel. A mage at the Friendly Arms Inn was killed easily due to good magical armour and magical resistance.
Day 12
I helped a priestess against some fishermen involved in fishing above their EEC quota. They clearly deserved death. I have also been asked to recover a knife for a dwarf in Ulgoth’s Beard.
Day 17
I have killed yet another assassin, this one called Karlat, and afterwards I helped Alanna’s neighbour.
Day 19
I helped the Dudley family resolve their argument and also returned Perdue’s sword to him. I then killed Silke when she attacked me. She’s not the only one who can cast invisibility! What’s more, I have shield, blur, and mirrored image, together with some offensive spells.
Day 20
I helped in the restoration of Melicamp and upon returning Gurke’s cloak was most rudely rebuffed.
Day 21
I returned Landrin’s possessions to him.
Day 23
I was asked to deal with the problem of Bassilus. I had hoped to do this by charming him, and indeed for a while he did help me against Zargal and his cronies. However, he then turned against me and I was forced to kill him.
Day 26
I helped an Archaeologist and also helped Brage on the way to peace with himself after all the evil that he had done.
Day 32
After buying a protection from acid scroll, I used it in hunting Ankheg just north of The Friendly Arms Inn. I returned the body of a farmer’s son to him, not that it was much of a consolation. Despite the scroll, I still needed to use healing potions.
Day 36
I was able to help the dryad of the Cloudpeaks and whilst doing so collected a number of winter wolf pelts.
Day 38
The half-ogres that hurt Bjornin so badly have now been slain and as a reward I was given a shield.
Day 43
I “rescued” Rufie and killed “The fastest dart Thrower in the West”
Day 47
I rescued Jared from a bear.
Day 53
I helped Laurel against hordes of gibberling. Whilst resting to recover from my wounds, my sleep was interrupted again and again by ogres, all of which died, some with the help of Laurel. (Opportunity for experience mining here I think)
Day 61
I helped Prism, slew Greywolf and I then killed a baby wyvern in Nashkel. I also killed a mage in Nashkel before going to buy some decent equipment in order to enter the mines. The equipment included “Robe of the Good Archmage” “Martial Staff +3,” “Necklace of Missiles”. I am now poor but am level 6 as both a fighter and illusionist.

Quick question about the rules -- does "no reloading" mean only no reloading, but you are still allowed to save and load, provided that you do not use a given save more than once and only deal with the loss of items/NPCs, surprise attacks, and death of your PC in-universe (without loading a prior save) -- essentially like Hardcore mode in Diablo 2, except you are also not allowed to chicken out of the game under threat?

Or does it imply "no saving/loading" at all, meaning you pretty much need to complete the game in one sitting (like SiN Episode One on the highest difficulty setting)? If so, this would rule out no-reload+complete coverage challenge [all quests mandatory, all areas cleared at least once], which I intend to try someday. There is easily 30-50 hours of gameplay if I choose to explore every nook and cranny, and there is a pretty good chance the game will become unstable if I run a single session for that long (especially if I pause it for long periods).

Don't worry - it's not necessary to complete the game in one sitting, though it has been done that way a few times. The no-reload just means no second chance to get things right (though you can reload if the game crashes). There are some basic rules on the first page of this thread.

I'll look forward to seeing your run.

Also, you can save as much as you want. The game will sometimes crash out of the blue, relying on auto-saves and quick-saves is dubious at best...

As Grond0 says, the first post explains when you can reload (crashes, continuing session) and when you can't (something happened you didn't like/want). While not explicitly mentioned, it is generally accepted to reload due to hardware (vs software) crashes, such as hard drive died and you continuing old save another computer. Sometimes people want to give their characters a 2nd chance. The only way you can, that is in the spirit of the rules, is to load from an export or save that was made immediately after character creation.

Goodguy (level 3 cleric/level 2 illusionist controlled by corey_russell) and Badgirl (level 2 fighter/level 3 thief controlled by dogdancing) continues their adventure (MULTIPLAYER) - Trilogy No-Reload

Goodguy and Badgirl managed to clear the areas inbetween Beregost and Nashkel without incident. Both use slings for ranged. Badgirl uses long sword +1 and Goodguy uses Mace +1. After clearing the areas, Goodguy was about 450 experience short of getting him a level for the night...

So then Goodguy got this "great" idea -- how about the vampiric wolves in the temple area? He has 2x entangle right plus sleep for the worgs? What could go wrong? Yes, famous last words...

In any case, they did go to the temple area. Badgirl scouted from the south and backed off while Goodguy cast entangle x2. The x2 may have been a mistake. We got some really bad lag here for the first time, it kept looking like the entangled enemies were approaching the party, but they were not. It was correct on the host computer but not the client. Good thing we are playing in the same room..

In any case, we concentrate fire on a vampiric wolf...things were going okay and his morale broke even at one point...well of course the entangles wore off and now here come 2 vampiric wolves, 2 dread wolves and 3 worgs at once...no more entangles left. We tried to get the one that was nearly dead with the plan being to run immediately after it died...well it did die, but then Badgirl got held! Uh, oh...Goodguy backed off and when she died Goodguy headed to Beregost to escape.

Goodguy went back to Beregost temple area to try to resurrect Badgirl, but he needed 400 girl and had 349..hmm, so back to Beregost again. Goodguy sold his non-magical mace which he no longer needed and an antidote (without resting) and returned to the temple area and resurrected Badgirl at the temple. The intent was to follow the path we already cleared back to the wolves to get Badgirls's equipment, but Goodguy got a little careless and now here come 6 wardogs...Goodguy only has about 13 HP at this point. He quickly hands his sling  and bullets to Badgirl as she is naked, and together they got all the wardogs, though Goodguy had to use a heal potion.

They proceed again, with Goodguy being a bit more careful in his pathing back to the east part of the map. All the wolves are surrounding Badgirl's body...we don't have the money to raise her if her hide in shadows fails...so the duo rested in Beregost so that Goodguy could memorize sanctuary (good thing no travel time between Beregost and Beregost temple area...) and they returned to the scene of the crime. Goodguy is not strong enough to loot everything, so he gave all his heavy stuff to Badgirl before he sanctuaried and recovered her equipment and anything else that may have been valuable.

Goodguy gets away in time and they finally are re-equipped. The duo first get rid of a group of hobgoblins that were nearby. Badgirl wanted to recover her magical bullets, which Goodguy wasn't able to recover due to full inventory. So she stealths and tries to get it, but was seen! Entangle time - this get some, so the duo back off a little bit more and entangle again -- everything is locked down except for a dread wolf. Goodguy ordered Badgirl to use her sword on the dread wolf, while Goodguy used his sling on the vampiric wolf. Badgirl had forgotten to put on her plate mail, so she was taking more damage than she should have with her studded leather on...in any case the vampiric wolf broke free of its entangle before the dread wolf was killed -- together the duo killed the vampiric wolf and dreadwolf. About this time the worgs break free of their entangle, a sleep spell calms things down and finally the duo slays the last of the wolves.

Being that the duo is broke, they cleared the map until they were full, and headed to Beregost to sell and rest and call it a night, leaving the party with 113 gold.

Diary of Staff Seeker continued.

Day 63

I was well buffed and invisible when I stumbled upon Mulahey. When we talked he was full of bluster, but that changed after Agannazer's Scorcher followed from a blast from the wand of frost hurt him badly. His summoned allies were quickly dealt with by a blast from the wand of fire. After that I just used my staff to deal with the remnants of opposition.

Day 65

Upon returning to Nashkel I was going to use similar tactics, but couldn't use spells due to invisibility. I considered using invisibility purge, but my staff was so effective that I just used that.

Day 67

Upon returning to Beregost, I was asked to help out at Restenford. I cleared out the rats first, bought some equipment, and found some spells in Pelltar's Tower. Kicked myself for buying what could have been had for nothing! I found a tome that increased my intelligence even more. It now stands at 20. I then killed a spy and thought it was time to return to the Sword Coast, but was given further tasks which I will be glad to undertake.

Corey, at some point one of you may see an enemy the other cannot. On our first run I went for a gap in an ambush and Grond0 wondered why I was strolling towards ghasts. We noticed a few situations where this type of behaviour happened.

From memory the same-room lag isn't that different from over-the-net. I might find out again if I can find an external dvd drive (can't install easily from the 5+1 disks on Linux and that laptop is of the age where it only has a cd drive).

We've already encountered this. I had auto-pause on enemy sighted, and she couldn't see the enemy but I could. So we turned mine off and turned hers on. This works much better, as I can adapt to not seeing the enemy right away better than she can.

Goodguy (level 4 cleric/level 3 illusionist controlled by corey_russell) and Badgirl (level 3 fighter/level 4 thief controlled by Dogdancing) continue their adventure...

Goodguy and Badgirl got a lot done today. Specifically, they cleared Carnival, Nashkel Mines (surface), Xvart Village, gibberling map (the one with Samuel), and Gnoll fortress. Incidents of note:

* We tried a rather dubious strategy against Zorl - drain him of all his spells...by emptying them into Badgirl! She must have gulped like 5 heal potions, in addition to Goodguy's healing her via spell and bhaal power. However after all of this, Zorl then went into melee - we had him then of course. The robe of course went to Goodguy. Goodguy usually wears protection ring, armor spell and the robe when in area, but then dons the ankheg armor when traveling for added protection.

* We obtained a new weapon for Badgirl, one she will use for probably the whole game. We got it by helping Prism - Greywolf bragged, then got a bit unlucky -- Goodguy managed to hold Greywolf on the first attempt. However, in reserve, good guy had 2x entangle, another hold person and a blind - Greywolf WAS going to be defeated.

We returned to Nashkel to sell and identify the sword. Also to get potions, really low. We also turned in an emerald to Oublek, which got Goodguy to level 3 mage. He memorized web and acid arrow.

* We then traveled to the gibberling area, a relatively easy map to clear. Badgirl of course carried Samuel so we can take him to FAI. But first, we got into a interesting ambush - 2 ghouls and lot of gnolls. Badgirl got some REALLY bad lag here, she had no clue what was going on - on her screen Goodguy was surrounded, but in reality none were around him. She also walked straight toward a ghoul...but in any case Goodguy did entangle which managed to get everything but a gnoll and a ghoul. Naturally the duo concentrated fire on the ghoul. Goodguy used acid arrow to speed up the kill. After it died, Badgirl slaughtered the gnoll, while Goodguy targeted the entangled ghoul with his sling. After the ghoul fell, mop-up was simple.

* While traveling to FAI to rescue Samuel, another ambush as VERY large one this time around - like 4 gibberlings and at least 8 bandit archers. However, Goodguy was fairly certain the duo could take them. Badgirl got some bad lag again, and couldn't tell what was going on. She was targeted by quite a few archers so had to potion a few times. (her AC at this point is -4). Good guy was doing just fine, as he used the frost wand a few times to whittle down the archers on his side. We eventually discovered Badgirl was being targeted by yet more archers, so Goodguy used another wand charge to whittle down the numbers. Victory for the party, full inventory of course -- going to happpen a lot this run I suspect...

* Xvart village - very smooth here. The xvarts were no problem. Goodguy did sleep or entangle if the numbers were too many. The main reason the duo is here is for the gauntlets of defense. The plan for the bear in the cave? Badgirl attacks with her long sword +2, and 2 frost wand charges plus her sword was enough to take care of it. We did NOT provoke Barda -- seemed unnecessarily risky with his magic resistance and Goodguy's so-so Thac0. We will get plenty experience as a duo, am sure we will reach the level cap this game.

* Gnoll fortress - with Badgirl's -4 AC she tanked great. Unless a battle is special in some way, the usual technique is she tanks while Goodguy assists with his sling, or spells if the numbers get to be too many. We currently kite bears or ghouls. The main reason the party is here is the heal potions in the cave, as well as the gauntlets - no one needs to equip them, as the duo both have 18 DEX, but after selling it we will get the full plate armor for Badgirl, putting her AC to -6 and her HP is 38. Archer bandit ambushes would be of no threat to her with that. Archer ambushes shouldn't be a threat to Goodguy either, as his AC to arrows is -9.

Whe fighting the carrior crawler in the cave, really strange stuff happened. The plan was to web/entangle the crawler and take it down with their slings. But after casting web, all of a sudden Badgirl starting walking into the web on Goodguy's screen, but on Badgirl's screen she was stationary! Very odd...then when they tried to get into sling range, she got caught by the web. Goodguy went all out to insure her safety - magic missiles via scroll, acid arrow and a sling shot was enough to kill the crawler, who was never able to break out of the entangle/web. Hopefully his lag doesn't happen every time we do web, we need that spell...

We rested in Beregost and got the full plate for Badgirl as discussed. The party finishes their session with about 900 gold in their coffers.

Update of Gloomy Face & Co

We returned to the Crossroads area, cleaned it and headed to the FAI. There we fetch Joia's Flamedance Ring and sneaked to the Inn past Tarnesh to get reward from Landrin (both Gloomy Face and Imoen got levels - I wish them to be immune to Tarnesh's sleep spell). Joined Jaheira/Khalid and went outside. Tarnesh managed to slumber Jaheira and hit Gloomy Face with Power Word: Sleep but Khalid and Imoen dispatched him quickly. Joined force of Four Horsemen went onto the Nashkel clearing areas in-between. Upon arrival Jaheira got (found) her new armor and we made a side trip to the Carnival (for the Necklace of Missiles). Picked Minsc and went on rescue mission taking the quickest root through the Xvart Village and Ogre's Bridge. With her new pretty Gauntlets of Dexterity Jaheira has taken the position of main party tank so rescue mission went flawless. Minsc and Dynaheir were sent to Jovial Juggler Inn and Band Of Four went back to the Nashkel to investigate local mines.

Current Band state:

Gloomy Face: Mage 3/ Thief 4, 134 kills, Ghast
Jaheira: Fighter 3/ Druid 3, 52 kills, Mountain Bear
Khalid: Fighter 4, 141 kills, Ogre Berserker
Imoen: Thief 5, 87 kills, Ghast

to be continued...

I discovered the thief in Restenford and left the area to deal with the bandits. Upon my return to the temple, I was attacked by mercenaries who accused me of stealing a staff. The accusation was true, but their reaction was a bit over the top and I was forced to kill them. The value of their armour far outweighed that of the staff, and the oil of speed they were carrying enabled me to clear an area of basilisks. I was already buffed as in Restenford I had been attacked by an assassin who was normally accompanied by three others. They didn’t turn up, so I was expecting them at the temple. They didn’t turn up there either, but the mercenaries did.
I then dealt with Lady Valeria and her cronies. They proved to be a walkover, so I will now go to deal with the bandits after I have spent some of the loot.
I then carried on to the Ulcaster school and helped restore it, went to the Firewine Bridge where I won a dual with somebody who thought he could use a sword. Not as well as I can use a staff, he couldn’t. I then killed the Mighty Khasrkh. I used several powerful healing potions in order to survive, but survive I did.
So, on I went to the bandit camp. A potion of oil of speed made life there not too hard, though I did have to use several charges of a wand of fire. I killed Tazok and his closest cronies, but the rest of the bandits didn’t even try to fight me.
I then returned to deal with Tranzig before heading to the Cloakwood forest. It was as well that I had a potion of freedom of action as well as some potions that cured poison. I needed them. First of all I agreed to help Aldeth against the druids. In this battle I was badly hurt, so decided to sleep in order to recuperate. Bad idea! I was awoken by a spider who caught me in its web and then proceeded to eat me alive. I had only 6 hp left when I escaped the web. I immediately darted inside the house and took a potion of extra healing. When the spider followed me inside, I was ready and waiting. It died very quickly. Other spiders poisoned me, but I survived and returned the body of Chelak to his brother.
Upon reaching the mines, I was able to kill the Mouthy one and his friend, but the mages were invisible. I took the booty, went away, and returned to kill the mages later.

If anyone knows how I can comlete the Restenford quests, I would be grateful. I think it is a bug that is stopping me getting to Tri Top where the gnolls are attacking Restenford. I cannot find the "Secret of Bonehill Walkthrough".

I think that I have found the answer myself.

Once you have found out about the glorious hand, talk to the guards outside the

gates of the temple area and they'll tell you about ravella being on guard duty

when the thief was hanged and that she'll be back tomorrow. When she gets on

duty, talk to her and she'll foolishly abandon her post to show you where the

thief is buried (like she can afford to be slacking off after what happened last

time she didn't pay attention). Go talk to Pelltar, problem solved. Thanks to the SHS forum.

Goodguy (level 4 cleric/level 3 illusionist controlled by corey_russell) and Badgirl (level 4 fighter/level 4 thief controlled by Dogdancing) continue their adventure...

Areas cleared: Girl with dead cat map, High Hedge, Bassilus map

Incidents of note:
The duo is working better and better together. The map with the girl and her dead cat, for example, there were no close calls, was pretty clean mop-up. Krumm and buddy taken out with hold persons and command.

High Hedge was also cleanly cleared. We returned Perdue's sword for him giving the duo the only level of the session, level 4 fighter for Badgirl.

Bassilus map also cleared. The hobgoblins in the center were dominated by sleep and command.

As for Bassilus himself, that was a little chaotic, but the party pulled through without any deaths. The duo attacked from the south. Badgirl opened with a fireball with necklace of missiles, Goodguy opened with silence. The fireball hit, and the silence worked too, BUT not before Bassilus got a spell off- Badgirl is hit with rigid thinking!

Bassilus charged Badgirl since he can't cast spells, a few skeletons take potshots at both Goodguy and Badgirl. Goodguy tried 2 hold persons on Bassilus - that failed. Goodgirl did get some good licks on Bassilus, despite being confused. She got to about 2/3 life. Goodguy starting slinging and Bassilus didn't like that and charged Goodguy. Goodguy decided dying isn't a good thing and tried frost wand, even though it might chunk Bassilus - it worked! Bassilus is now dead! And his items are all there as well...

Goodguy starts slinging the skeletons. With her -10 AC to missile weapons, Badgirl wandered around but stayed alive. She eventually shook off the rigid thinking and the duo mopped up the remaining skeletons. In order to loot as many two hand swords and heavy crossbows as possible, the duo intentionally had so many to overburden themselves, and then slowly made their way to Beregost to sell their gains.

The mayor of Beregost was happy with our success. We returned to the Bassilus map and cleared it without further incident.

Coffers finish with 9700 gold - think we will continue saving for the robe of the arch good magi.
