Congrats on graduations, guys! I'm particularly interesting in following your Kensai=>Druid, Corey, as he is one of my possible future chars.

Now, a bit of news about BlackStrider (Priest of Helm) & Co:

After leaving Candlekeep and Gorion's death I joined Imoen and together we cleared first area which gave us our first level up. Next were High Hedge (obtained Perdue's Sword), Beregost (calmed Marl, book for old wizard, Mirianne's Letter, Zhurlong's boots, Landrin's Spiders, killed Karlat -doom+hold person sealed his fate)  and cleared South-of-Beregost area (in search of Zhurlong's Boots - they were on the very last hobgoblin we met there...). Then we made a short trip to Nashkel (Ankhed plate for me, Noober, Oublek (for reputation burst) and having 4 levels under the belt (I love the rate of level ups of single classes!) we finally headed to the FAI to meet Jaheira & Khalid, sterilized an area with belted Ogre along the way. Tarnesh managed to slumber Imoen but I True Sighted his core identity and he became a history. After obtaining Joia's Ring we brought to Landrin a good news along with some junk and finally allied with Jaheira and Khalid. With core Band assembled we cleared High Hedge and area south of it (spare Bassilus at the moment)  This time Melicamp the Chicken again doesn't survived the transformation (I already don't know whether this is a good sign or not....) We then pay a brief visit to Nashkel to chat with Berrun Ghastkill (in order to Jaheira stop complain)  and cleared Nashkel Mines outdoors. Greywolf shrugged my first Command but Doom+Hold Person=No More Person. Khalid got a new shiny sword and we headed to the Soon-To-Be-A-Sleepy-Hollow Gibberling Mountains to fetch a pretty useful Ring. Saving Samuel gave us even more Reputation and with all our gold obtained we made some shopping on the Carnival's flea market (Shield Amulet and Necklace Of Missiles). Now we briefly joined with Minsc (in order to free Dynaheir) and operating on the Ogre's territory.

Current state:

BlackStrider - Priest of Helm (5), 100 kills (Dread Wolf);
Imoen - Thief (5) , 94 kills (Dread Wolf);
Jaheira - Fighter (3) / Druid (3), 47 kills (Greywolf);
Khalid - Fighter (4), 67 kills (Winter Wolf);
Minsc (temp) - Ranger (3)

to be continued...

If that's the case, then I'll try to make an extra effort for him to not die early in BG 2. At the very least he needs to live long enough to unlock his Kensai abilities after dual, to see how he performs.

Good luck in your new run.

@Corey: one of the positive aspects of this build is that Druids have quite rapid level ups early on, so, I think, it shouldn't be a problem to keep him alive long enough... ;)

It is indeed, but I will only need to get to level 10 to unlock my Kensai abilities, as I am dualing at level 9 I could at 13 I guess, but then I wouldn't unlock Kensai until almost ToB, and that's too long for me to wait, want him to be useful earlier...

And thanks all for the congratulations - this run was a lot of work, nice to see it paid off.

It's been a while since I've played single player, but all this talk of kensais convinced me to have a go!  Having used lots of shorties in multiplayer I thought I'd have a go with a human who will potentially dual to thief in BG2.

In order to avoid confusing myself, I'm using the same game setup (basic BGT) as for the multiplayer with Gate70.

Progress today has taken him up to the point of entering Baldur's Gate for the first time.  The basic strategy with him is:
- slow weapon speed enemies get hit and run attacks with his staff.
- fast weapon speed enemies get throwing axes.
- casters are dodged using handy exit points.

A summary of today's progress is as follows:
- from Candlekeep headed over to the coast to deal with Shoal (level 3 - +26 HPs).
- a few encounters in Beregost, such as Karlat's death (level 4 - +9 HPs).  Silke was another one to perish, providing Ash with a magic staff.
- cleared the spine of areas from Nashkel to Friendly Arm Inn (level 5 - +9 HPs and finally rested for first time).  Tarnesh was rather meanly cut down before he could even get into talking range.
- used green scroll to protect against basilisks and cleared area to east of temple (level 6 - +9 HPs).  Some charmed basilisks helped against Mutamin and the party there (which meant that the items from 2 of the 4 party members were destroyed, including the belt).
- Nashkel mines were no trouble.  A first blast from necklace of missiles cleared the way to deal with Mulahey.
- Nimbul fell to the first swipe of Ash's staff.
- at the bandit camp picked off the bandits mainly with throwing axes.  Then dodged in and out of the main tent to deal with the enemies there - Venkt was the last to fall.
- went through Cloakwood as quickly as possible, but had to use one and only potion of freedom when triggering a trap at the same time as being spotted by an ettercap.
- at the mine Drasus was charmed, soon followed by Drasus.  They provided enough shielding to deal with the mages (level 7 - +5 HPs, i.e. back to average).
- charmed a couple of guards to let Ash sneak past Hareishan.
- at the bottom level pulled the battle horrors one by one.  Ash was incredibly poor at hitting the first one - rolling his first 10 attacks at 9 or less and using up all his healing potions.  Fortunately the second went down much more easily and he still had enough HPs to deal with Daveorn (who had already expended his spells on a charmed guard).
- the slave who praised Ash and gave a bonus of 2 to reputation inexplicably fell over Ash's staff and died, causing a loss of 5 reputation points (allowing a Bhaal power horror to be added to slow poison, heal and LMD).

Here's Ash's current record.

Uh, Grond0, does your install clone Drasus so you can get two haste boots? That's pretty handy...if not, how is it you can charm Drasus twice without the first charm wearing off first? Did you mean the other melee (can't remember his name)...

I got a LOL at that. However, now you can no longer critique when I calm Marl then kill him in vanilla...Another way to lose 5 rep in the Cloakwood (shadow druid area) is to talk to the "keeper of the woods" when he sees you come off the bridge, and if you refuse to talk to him or claim to be from the Iron Throne you lose 5 rep...

While I admit you are like light years ahead of me with solo Kensai skill, is the kit so under-powered that it can't survive without Algnernon's Cloak?

Also, over the many months we've been at, I could have sworn you had a ton of human Kensais with dreams of being a thief -- did a single one ever manage to dual to thief and regain his Kensai abilities before being taken out?

Another game that was almost as short a long time ago I was killed by friendly fire in training. I think that was a bug as I haven't been injured in training for a long time, though other members of the party have been hurt in the training room..

Diary of Holy Warrior, Fighter/Cleric Svirfneblin: Str 18/98, Dex 19, Con 17, Int 19, Wis 18, Cha 2, and his sister Sneaky Mage, Illusionist/Thief Str 18, Dex 19, Con 17, Int 19, Wis 18, Cha 2.

SVIRFNEBLIN: Also known as deep gnomes, the deep gnomes of the Realms are a secretive, mysterious race. Found in the deepest caverns of the Underdark, the Svirfneblin live in constant fear of slavery or destruction at the hands of dark elves, mind flayers, and duergar. Deep gnomes are legendary for their ability to handle stone and gems. They have grey skin and white hair.
- ADVANTAGES: +1 to Dexterity, +1 to Wisdom, +20 to Stealth, Magic Resistance of 50% and +2% every level thereafter to a maximum of 80%, + 1 to hit vs. kobolds, goblins and hobgoblins, +4 bonus to AC, Mirror Image 1/day, Invisibility 1/day, Blur 1/day and Non-detection.
- DISADVANTAGES: -2 to Charisma, -1 to Constitution and -30% experience modifier
.

The added wisdom is clearly of benefit to Holy Warrior as is the +20 stealth to Sneaky Mage. The 50% magical resistance and +1 to dexterity help both but the -30% experience modifier is quite a big downside. Since they only had charismas of 3, the -2 Charisma modification works out at -1 as the game won’t let you start with a Charisma of 1.

After the death of Gorion, we headed straight for the Friendly Arms Inn as instructed. There we were attacked by a mage called Tarnesh, but he was no match for us and as a result, died.
We didn’t find Khalid and Jaheira and so continued northwards where were able to help a woman whose dead husband wished to continue living with her. We agreed to help Sonner against an evil priestess, but upon discovering the truth, helped her instead. Using our innate spells, we were able to defeat a monster and head towards the Beard. There we were asked to go and get a dagger from Durlag’s tower, but found that it was inaccessible from there. We therefore made for Nashkel where we knew that there were other problems.

Sigh ... it was, indeed, Genthore.

While I admit you are like light years ahead of me with solo Kensai skill, is the kit so under-powered that it can't survive without Algnernon's Cloak?

No, it's not particularly difficult to survive - the cloak is just convenient.  I haven't actually used it a lot in this run - I think all the occasions were listed.  Instead of the cloak the green amulet / ring of free action could have been used with potion buffs (or scroll magic protection / potions) to do all those encounters safely or they could just have been avoided using invisibility (except Daveorn).

Also, over the many months we've been at, I could have sworn you had a ton of human Kensais with dreams of being a thief -- did a single one ever manage to dual to thief and regain his Kensai abilities before being taken out?

I can't remember how many I've tried, but certainly a few - I don't think any have regained abilities, certainly not the cheese goal of UAI.  However, as this is my first game for a while perhaps I'll concentrate better.  In addition this mod set-up is much more forgiving of errors than my previous one, so I remain hopeful of making progressPosted Image.

Final update for Ash - kensai.

In the city he acquired the dexterity tome and then went after Ramazith.  Ran up the tower and finished him off before trying to come back down invisible.  Unfortunately some ghasts had laid an ambush.  He could have used another invisibility potion, but thought he might have enough time to axe an opening before they could get in range - there proved to be just enough!

At the Iron Throne a green scroll + potions of regeneration, invulnerability, heroism, speed & storm giant strength proved far too potent a cocktail for the party there.  Use of instant teleport to Candlekeep allowed the same buffs to be used to loot the tombs (though had to leave most stuff behind as not enough carrying capacity).  A potion of invisibility got him past the dopplegangers and refreshing invulnerability, speed and regeneration made short work of Prat & co.  That got him to level 8 and 6 more HPs - miserable effort since his excellent first level up!  Another invisibility got him out through the basilisks.

He rested to get a vampiric touch ability then went to the lighthouse area.  Dealing with some worgs got his reputation up to 10 and another green scroll / invulnerability combination dealt with Sil and her sirenes.  With no need for XP he just ran past the flesh golems to get the constitution tome.  He similarly ran past the battle horrors to get the wisdom tome from Durlag's Tower - using a potion of magic blocking against the trap there.

Back in the city he rested to get DUHM and then used potions of speed, invulnerability and heroism to crush Slythe.  Kristin's cloudkill made the cloak of Balduran available, with the use of another potion of magic blocking (this is normally important for me as a mod allows it to carry into BG2, but much less of an issue in this run).  A vampiric touch and thrown axe killed an unlucky priest to get the last tome (not bothering with charisma tome).

The only fight in the game where I was concerned there was a possibility of Ash losing, without me making a mistake, was at the palace.  He therefore used a full complement of potions there, adding 2 mind focusing and a potion of power to the normal selection.  Liia died and Belt took several knocks, but survived.

After a rest Ash went invisibly through the maze, avoiding the traps and the Undercity party.  Here is his preparation for the final fight.  The plan was to crash straight in and try to take out Angelo (as the only one who could hurt him with distance attacks).  A last second addition of kai allowed him to hit Angelo with 2 attacks for 30, but Sarevok's single attack in the middle of those was a critical for 46.  Ash had very limited healing ability (5 potions of health), so didn't want to get hit again and retreated a few steps before finding a critical of his own (still with kai up) with his throwing axe to finish off Angelo.
Posted Image
The screenshot is a bit misleading as I've cut out the numerous pauses between the action.  For most of the game I've used pause very little to avoid getting used to that before playing multiplayer again, but for this fight I went back into my standard mode.

From this point on Ash just ran round the central area using his throwing axe on Sarevok.  That took a while in real time (using pauses between movement and attacks), but his potion of speed was still active when Sarevok eventually gave up the ghost, so it was less than 4 turns in game time.  As Ash never stood still for long Tazok failed to appear at all, while I just ignored Semaj's impotent spells.

Another potion of invisibility (still had one spare left after that) took Ash back to the palace to report in and get sent on his way to some sterner tests in Amn.

Latest update from The Adventures of Pingvyn the Figher...

Having wiped out the kobolds infesting the mines, Pingvyn and his merry band went on to clear the two areas to the west side of the Nashkell road and the farm area north of the FAI.

Next stop was Larswood and Peldvale where they infiltrated the bandits and got an escort to the camp. The massacre started with the guards in Tazok's tent. Leaving the tent, Pingvyn and Minsc attacked Taugosz. Minsc got badly hurt by Taugosz's first blow and ran away so Dynaheir and Garrick attacked with a chromatic orb and a bolt of polymorphing that had turned up as random treasure some time ago. Amusingly, Garrick managed to score a hit and Taugosz failed both his saving throws. As an unconscious chicken, he was easily dispatched. Unfortunately, the screenshot I thought I had taken didn't come out. The rest of the bandits didn't last long either.

After wandering the sword coast areas to the west and also the wilderness areas far to the south east, Pingvyn decided it was time to investigate the Cloakwood forest...

In the second cloakwood area, Pingvyn and Minsc foolishly charged some ettercaps and triggered a web trap that Imoen had failed to spot. The rest of the group backed off but Pingvyn and Minsc were both trapped. Facing three ettercaps and unable to fight back, Pingvyn was soon poisoned and killed. Dynaheir and Branwen both tried entering the web to cast neutralise poison but they did not get there in time.

A stupid way to go, especially as I knew there were plenty of traps in the area and I *could* have had the group advance slowly. The no reload challenge is over for Pingvyn but he will be carrying on regardless.

@Pingwin1: There was another option for you. If you had bought a protection from poison scroll (I think Thalantyr has one) and put on your PC, that lasts for 12 game hours, more than enough time for the entire area, even if done very slowly.

Another possibility (which is what I usually do), is turn off AI, put invisibility on SINGLE character and have them run all over this area, setting off the web traps by stepping on them. This way once all the traps are set off, they come back and the party can finish the ettercaps/spiders relatively safely after that.

I don't think your end was a stupid way to go, this area quite dangerous, and many no-reloaders have died on this map, so you are hardly alone. Now if you had died to vanilla BG 1 Carbos, THAT might qualify...

One thing that occured to me when it was too late... do web spells from traps count as magical? If they do then Branwen could have simply cast dispel magic and Pingvyn could have cured himself.

Not sure. Another option I just thought of if your mage was high enough level was Otuilek's sphere (or however it's spelled) - just put your PC out of the action until the webs are gone....

Scion (human berserker, Grond0) and Cyill (half-elf cleric/ranger, Gate70) Session 1 20 mins

A bad day for the multiplayer attempts.  After my error ended our BG2 run we started a new one in BG1.  After a fairly untroubled run through to completing the Nashkel mines we took on Lamalha and the amazons.  Three of them were killed with the final one left on her own some way away; unfortunately in approaching her we were too close together and both failed against hold person (missing those shorty bonuses already!).

We decided to give the same characters another chance and have just started them again.  From Candlekeep the duo headed straight for the coast and axed Shoal.  That gave Scion a berserker level and 10 HPs and Cyill shortly afterwards got a cleric level for 5 extra HPs.

@Grond0: I wish you and Gate70 good luck. You do realize, that so far, at least you are confirming my observation of a while ago "A successful trilogy multi-player with 2 or more humans controlling seems almost impossible."

If you remember, Badgirl and Goodguy are still alive and kicking so it's not that bad...nevertheless, wish you and Gate70 good luck -- or is that intelligence?

In my multi-player game with Dogdancing, we lost Ribald as a merchant, possibly Deidre too (no helm of brilliance if so), which would mean no Shield of Balduran. So we lost a lot of important items (scroll of magic protection could have come in handy...)...

But the run's going, so will see how far we can get...

Tempted to disagree Corey. Two of our runs have got reasonably far into SOA and our first real attempt with Nawgrim and Peer ended a long way into SOA with a stupid trap mistake on my part. Our multiplay setup differs to both our single player installs so we're tripping over inconsistencies and took a few runs to identify this (e.g casting spells under magic protection scroll).

Multiplayer has additional issues (e.g. lag and pause) but that is often countered by two people thinking & observing feedback. Good luck with your run.

I hear ya. I am not really saying it's impossible (how can that be?). Only that even more things can go wrong with multi-player. Of course, it took me 60-70 attempts before a successful trilogy no-reload, so perhaps maybe it takes equivalent amount for multi-player attempts.

In Nashkel I found a useful set of bracers that means that Sneaky mage can get on all right without carrying armour, though we’ll have to find a decent robe for him later. An annoying man called Noober almost got rocks thrown at him, but we just managed to control our ire.  We were offered gold by Oublek as he thought that I was Greywolf.  He must be short-sighted I think.

We intended on going down the mines to find news of Joseph, but thought better of it upon discovering it is full of yipping demons. When we are better equipped we may return.

We went to Beregost where Sneaky Mage liberated a lot of unguarded gold and jewellery. We helped the Dudley family and Alanna’s neighbour. In the process we killed Karlat, another bounty Hunter. We have now been asked to find Perdue’s sword and Gurke’s cloak. We will start with the nearby task first.

South of Beregost we found a letter that we delivered and as a result were rewarded with an attractive ring. A Flaming Fist mercenary then helped us against some hobgoblins and ghouls, sadly dying in the process. His armour will be useful.

We found the cloak and sword and in the process a couple of belts.

We then headed back to find Prism as requested. We ended up fighting Greywolf who was blinded and then killed with ranged weapons.

Zordral was the next to fight us. Doom followed by blindness led to his demise, though because of the number of mirror image spells he cast, and the number of healing potions he consumed, it took a long time.

Went around helping doggies, cats and dryads, (one of each) picked up some goodies near the gnoll stronghold and then helped Mellicamp. Bought a nice staff from the Beard. The combination of The staff on the body of Carbos, and the ring from Lord Foreshadow means that both characters have just reached Cha 25. It might not stop there. It may go down again as the staff is quite useful.

May try a few more areas first, but now feel up to going down the mines.

Hmm it looks like everyone has gone to BG II leaving me behind. Posted Image

Diary of Holy Warrior and his sister Sneaky Mage continued

I went to kill the Sirene and get the treasure from the cave. I used stealth to get the treasure. Went on to help the archaeologist and Brage. We then killed Neira before going shopping for a Cloak of the Good Archmage. We are now poor again! Posted Image

We were going to help Silke, but upon discovering the truth refused. She attacked and as result was killed. All the Ankheg have been cleared from the farm, above and below ground. We killed the wolves led by vampiric wolves to the east of Beregost.

Heading south we dealt with the half ogres that hurt Bjornin and entered the mines. At first the kobolds were not much of a problem, but then we came across a group that had a captain, guards, and two shamans. Holy smite was very effective, but one of the shamans cast horror and Holy Warrior panicked. Sneaky mage cast sleep which reduced the numbers of those fighting, and we were able to survive until Holy Warrior was able to fight again. During this period of panic, he set off a trap, but fortunately only one. After the battle sneaky mage cleared the other traps. When we fought Mulahey, he was first doomed and then command made him helpless. He had summoned a powerful skeleton in the meantime, but we killed him first and then when there was no further danger from him, killed the skeleton. A blast from the wand of fire weakened the kobolds and skeletons to the extent that we could fight them with our weapons, though we did have to use a healing potion. We returned to Beregost for R & R (In a previous game we were ambushed when we were weak and with no spells left). We will now return to Nashkel for our reward.

We came across Neira, who never got a reward but died, whereas we did collect our reward.
We returned to Beregost and went to the temple. From there we were sent to Restenford where we spent nearly all our gold buying a helm of charm protection, boots of grounding, Finch’s glasses, Tuigan’s bow, and a sling of seeking. They were expensive, but worth it if they keep us alive. All we need now is a decent club for Sneaky Mage, but at present we have very little gold.

We cleared out the rats in the disused guardhouse, using up all our arrows of fire in the process. We then discovered that Zahrdahl is a spy, but should I kill him?

Pelltar said that we should kill him, but I would like to collect more evidence first. I have therefore started solving the other problems such as the raids by Gnolls, hobgoblins and suchlike. They have been easy to solve so far, but we may come to more difficult problems later.
Sneaky found another ring of Holiness in a chest. We got caught and paid the fine of 200 gp more than willingly.

We then raided the castle basement and with the proceeds bought ankheg armour and a quiver full of arrows +1, plus some bracers of weapon expertise and some minor items.

Beat the bandits in their den and now heading for Bonehill. I've forgotten how to start the Martin Quest so when I met him he had nothing to sayPosted Image. Not much experience there anyway, but it would have been nice to have done everything.

Just been reading the walkthrough for Bonehill. Apparently you have to do some of the quests in the order that the mod writer expects you to do them, otherwise some of the quests break. That's why I couldn't do the Martin quest. Posted Image

I must have missed the bandit leader's equipment, and so missed the belt that gives Str 19. Posted Image

However, we did beat part 1 of the mod. Completed Bonehill. The giant had to be killed with the Tuigan bow and ice arrows, switching to acid arrows when the ice ones ran out. Acid weren't quite as effective, but didn't want to return to Restenford for fresh supplies. I was level drained and had to use a restoration scroll and go for a sleep half-way through the castle.

In the undead area I was given a nice helm and earned a tome of clear thought and a staff +2 which has additional benefits. Can only be used by a mage though, so only Sneaky Mage can use it.

There is a skeleton in there which appears to be charmed, but which cannot be contolled unless you charm it again. I did that and it defeated the beholder and its allies easily.

We then used Sneaky Mage's thieving skills to gain a lot of treasure. The local populace don't know that however and so we are still being feted as heroes. Posted Image

We returned to the Sword Coast and there were falsely accused of stealing the staff in the castle. We had to fight for our lives and used a number of potions to survive. They did however drop more potions than we used. Posted Image

We used some of these potions against the basilisks and medusae in Mutamin's Garden. Oil of speed means that you can easily do the area with just two scrolls protecting from petrification. I have learnt not to be stingy with the scrolls now SCS is installed. Have killed the party that needed to be taught a lesson.We then cleared the area of everything hostile before heading to the area where we exited the mines. Cleared that area of hostile creatures and are now resting in Beregost having reached 50,000 exp in each class. (Level 6 except for thieving level 7)

Update of BlackStrider (Priest of Helm) & Co:

We stormed Gnoll's Stronghold and with newly obtained Gauntlels of Dexterity Jaheira tanked perfectly being hit very seldom. Dynaheir joined our Band but we sent Minsc to amuse Bjornin in the Jovial Juggler Inn. Back in Nashkel we tried to rest in local Inn but were assailed by Neira. We both tried to Hold each other and our reflexes were slightly faster so she was doomed:

Nashkel Mines were our next goal - no issues there and Mulahey fell almost in a single round:

Xan went to the Jovial Juggler Inn to level down a bit of Bjornin's amusement from Minsc  whilst we went back to the Carnival for restocking and to deal with Zordral. That was a bit messy with all his summons in a confined space and all of us took some damage but in the end we prevailed:

Back in the Valley of Tombs we dealt with Amazons (Silence, Web and Stinking Cloud shone there):

but plaguy mouse misclick in dialog left us without Revenant's 3000 exp and Dagger +2... Well, we looted all tombs but left Narcillicus  along for now as we haven't tools to cut down his buffs as of yet. Back in Nashkel Nimbul  was swarmed by our skeletons and first time in my SCS experience fell not from Amnish guards but from our own forces.

Bassilus fell to Doom+Hold Person and we have a decent amount of gold but before made our key purchases we need a bit more reputation burst so this is our next goal for now

Current state:

BlackStrider - Priest of Helm (5), 158 kills (Ankheg);
Imoen - Thief (6) inactive / Mage (2) , 146 kills (Dread Wolf);
Jaheira - Fighter (4) / Druid (4), 214 kills (Greywolf);
Khalid - Fighter (5), 228 kills (Lamalha);
Dynaheir - Invoker (4), 6 kills (Vampiric Wolf)

to be continued...
