Traveling with Minsc (level 7 ranger), Imoen (level 9 thief), Quayle (level 5 cleric/level 5 mage)
The party dealt with Drassus and his fellow goons. Coresorc did web, greater malison and web...then simple range fire and Minsc wading into the webs with his spider's bane was more than enough to defeat these enemies.

The party battled well inside the mine itself. Heirashan was dealt with by 3 necklace of missile charges then Minsc charging with his scimitars. Most of the enemies here were rather easy...we did rescue Yeslick while we were here. Imoen de-trapped the 4 traps in Davaeorn's area. Minsc did a few buffs and charged Davaeorn. Minsc's scimitars were just too much for Davaeorn and Davaeorn was slain.
After leaving the mines, we realized we wanted a divine caster so we had a wand of heavens user..then we noticed that Yeslick was too stupid to use wands! Arghhh...so then we recruited Quayle and kicked out Yeslick. Then we noticed that Quayle is skilled with maces..but is too weak to use maces! Just how did he get proficient with the weapon, if he can't even lift it? Sigh...well, Quayle is staying in the back row, so guess we will just have to live with it.
Party is in front of the smithy, to get upgrades for Quayle.

You're all far too quick at spotting my mistakes! Dej was conceived as just a replacement for my last human kensai (hence his name - short for deja vu). However, I've used that same picture for a dwarf character in the past and must have just moved into auto-pilot in character creationGate70 wrote...

He might find survival a bit easier as a dwarf pure kensai anyway; I'll see how far he can get.

I think they come from Dark Horizons or possibly Dark Side of the Sword Coast. I seem to remember some comment that there should be more protection provided for the town of Beregost. Of course the fact that they don't react to hordes of huge spiders rampaging down the streets makes a bit of a nonsense of that!Grimwald the Wise wrote...
I was just wondering if anyone knows which mod introduced the Morninglords and Morningmasters into Beregost. Also is there any reason for them to be there other than as a source of armour and weaponry?
At least one of them has a vicious sling (something like 3 attacks base per round), but even that is nothing compared to the Morgoth bow on sale from the vendor near the spider house. If you want to be able to mow your opponents down like with a machine gun then give that to someone with bow proficiency and Meilum's bracers and fire away!

Well, 'twas some time we are last seen but we did a plenty of work (tho not nearly as much as you, friends). To earn some more reputation and tie up loose ends we cleared Fire Leaf Forest, Dryad Falls and Xvart Village. Whilst fighting Sendai Dynaheir filled an area with Stinking Cloud, Web, Grease that did not quite like the enemy and Delgod killed her with two consequent critical shots but fell to nausea afterwards. Me and Jaheira were out of play as well so Khalid nearly soloed the whole fight. Vax and Zal fell under the Blindness, Krumm and Caldo under Hold Person:

Our reputation hit 20 so we bought Full Plate and Dagger of Venom for Jaheira and went on wolf and basilisk hunting:

I'm a bit disappointed with Dagger's of Venom strange behaviour (if I hit an enemy and he simultaneously died and poisoned he immediately *wake up* as *dead* character and I should kill him TWICE) so we headed to the Ulgoth's Beard (cleaning Ankheg Farm along the way) and spent our money on Aule's Staff+3, Greenstone Amulet, Cloak of Displacement, Wand of Heavens and some spells (Emotion, Improved Invisibility, Greater Malison even tho we can't cast 'em yet). With this equipment we cleared both Sirine's areas without any issues (well... aside from that Arrows of Bitting have the same strange behaviour as Dagger of Venom and I was forced to kill some Flesh Golems twice, arghh...)

After looting the Black Alaric's Cave we obtained a fine tool vs Sword/Phase/Wraith Spiders (the Wand of Paralyzation) so our next target was Spider Wood were I hit level 7 and now able to cast level 4 spells (Free Action and Protection From Evil 10' Radius are precious).
Our next goal is to join Viconia and onto the Bandit's Camp through the Peldvale and Larswood.
Current state:
BlackStrider - Priest of Helm (7), 200 kills (Sword Spider);
Imoen - Thief (6) inactive / Mage (5) , 152 kills (Dread Wolf); 1 death (Shoal)
Jaheira - Fighter (5) / Druid (6), 352 kills (Sirine);
Khalid - Fighter (6), 382 kills (Greater Basilisk);
Dynaheir - Invoker (6), 53 kills (Vampiric Wolf); 1 death (Delgod)
to be continued...

Truth to be told I've never met this before as well and I'm pretty sure it somehow connected with SCS (as this is the only difference in my current and all previous setups). Well, I don't mind much as Jaheira is much more comfortable and efficient with quarterstaffs.

Tough break there Grond0 - but maybe now you can make a character that could actually dual from a Kensai to a thief, as you originally intended...
A short session so far, but still covered quite a bit of territory. I'm still using the basic BGT set-up from multiplayer, but I've put my frame-rate back up to 60 - which actually feels pretty fast to me now! Summary of progress to date:
- killed Shoal (L3)
- returned Firebead's book, talked to Marl and dealt with spiders (L4)
- disposed of Karlat and reunited Perdue with his sword
- exploded Oopah for a final time and cut short Vitiare's career as a pickpocket (lucky here as a mis-click let him in range to talk to dej, but a critical axe caught up with him just before he could make his escape)
- bought shield amulet, protection from petrification scroll and necklace of missiles
- Hulrik's cow took a fair bit of damage, but survived
- returned letter to Mirianne
- took a couple of belts from an ogre
- returned Joia's ring, removed Tarnesh and gave Landrin back his goods (though forgot to pick up spider corpse). Also picked up pantaloons
- Rufie went hostile after his master teleported away with his doggy treat (and I treated him less gently than Gate70); Sendai and her companions will not threaten any more travellers (used shield amulet for the first time against the archers to get L5) and neither will Zal & Vax
- used another shield charge in the neighbouring area against a couple of winter wolves before disposing of Caldo & Krumm and being accused of murdering a cat
- returned to Nashkel to sell stuff, admit to not being Greywolf and kill Neira
- picked up the charisma tome (though just to sell)
- helped Drizzt against some gnolls (real help for once as his script did not trigger properly and he just stood there) and killed some half-ogres for Bjornin
Here's his current character record.

I had a Cavalier up to Davaeorn - a bit too quick as ran out of potions. Had used the two oils of speed in Nashkel mine (worked well) and bandit camp (again worked well but meant I had to go through Drasus and Cloakwood mine without one). The 10 turn buffs (strength, fire resistance, absorbtion, heroism) wore off while fighting Davaeorn and his battle horrors, and he managed to hold me after I'd disposed of his helpers. I'd used 2 of the 3 regeneration potions and around a dozen blue potions too.
Got another Cavalier on the go, Brak. Just under 3 hours to get into Baldur's Gate.
Toughest encounters so far were Greywolf (6 blue potions) and Meilum (2 blue potions). Three Greenstone Amulet charges took care of Mulahey, Venkt and Rezdan/Kysus and in writing this just realised I forgot it against Davaeorn again so very lucky there.

Also using elixir of health potions as standard healing potions to reduce inventory/store issues.

Things covered up to this point include:
- successfully revived Melicamp.
- provided Brage with an escort back to Nashkel (L6).
- rescued Samuel (reputation 20).
- used green scroll to deal with the basilisks. Korax helped out against Mutamin, but died against Lindin's party leaving Dej to run away.
- ankheg nest was cleared under protection from another green scroll (L7).
- hit a priestess a bit harder than he meant to!
- at Ulgoth's Beard Dej used all his money to buy a nice staff, cloak, ring and amulet; then used his new staff to one-shot Dushai to get his ring.
- a couple of amulet uses dealt with the sirenes on the way to the pirate cave. Dej started in attacking a golem in a fair fight, but after swapping critical hits had to run and heal. On his return he minimised the golems chance of attacking by letting them get close and starting their attack animation before running away a few paces (effectively this wastes their attack for the round allowing Dej a free hit) - he killed them all without further problems.
- at the Carnival another green amulet charge protected against any mistakes against Zordral (though he failed to get a spell off anyway).
- a shield charge helped make short work of Zargal & co. and another green amulet saw off Bassilus (just as well this time as he got a rigid thinking off). His undead army didn't disintegrate, but fortunately the shield charge used for Zargal was still operating and Dej was able to deal with them without the need to do anything fancy.
- with the money from Bassilus' symbol Dej purchased the Claw of Kazgoroth. That won't be used in BG1, but should improve his chances of survival against the mephits in Irenicus' dungeon.
- another attempt at fair-fighting - and this time success as Greywolf was unable to match Dej's damage output.
- a first use of the necklace of missiles saw Mulahey left almost alone and he quickly succumbed to Dej's staff. On the way out he struck both oozes down with critical hits, while they managed a single critical miss between them (didn't get the screen shot before doing the area transition).
- back in Nashkel returned Joseph's ring, turned in the emeralds and reported to the mayor before Nimbul became another one-shot kai victim.
- Tranzig tried to give up, but was refused. However, he did get a measure of revenge with a magic missile before being struck down.

Traveling with Minsc, Imoen and Quayle
Most of the battles in the city of Baldur's Gate went very well, including Degrodel's place. We destroyed the 5 ogre mages with 4 fireballs and beat the Mountain Maulers easily, mostly with blindness and hold persons, with magic missiles finishing off many of them. Quayle and Coresorc each have a ton of magic missiles, as each of them have a ring of wizardry.
We were nearly done with our City tasks, just the 5th floor Iron Throne Building baddies to take on. Well, we ran into a bit of a problem here. The plan was 2x web, greater malison and silence. We also crept upstairs invisible - Minsc walked into the bulk of the enemies with his 75% magic resistance and did berserk. This part worked great.
One of the enemies got off a confusion - the humans of the party (Imoen, Coresorc) of course failed their save, Quayle though made his. Gardush evaded the webs and moved up to the stairs...though Coresorc did have mirror images up, it wasn't enough, Gardush burned through them and Coresorc - another failed mage run for me. Using a protection of magic scroll just doesn't make sense on a sorcerer...

Back to the drawing board...

It's too late for that. Mage just isn't my style...I will one day do another mage, just not right now...yes, I did use the greenstone amulet, but I agree, I should have used it on Coresorc. I could have also kept the party back and let Minsc keep them busy for a while, with his buffs and 75% magic resist, he would do well, long enough to draw out the confusion, then the party could move up and assist.
Could have also did some summons near the stairs...at least now I can see what all the rave about sorcerers is...I still prefer paladins though. : )

Brak, Cavalier.
Maximising potion value
I glug five potions and add charge 4 of the Greenstone amulet. Zhalimar Cloudewulfe and his mercenaries are quickly strewn around the fifth floor of the Iron Throne HQ. I stash what I cannot carry and stagger downstairs with 42/83hp, no healing yet.
Over the street to deliver justice to Jalantha Mistmyr. Her flamestrike heals me and I leave with a body, a geas removal scroll and 39/83hp after her companions fight back.
I glug a regeneration potion as I reach the tower where Ramazith has retreated to. A pair of mustard jellies are killed before I realise the ring of freedom will end the oil of speed, so turn around oops 1.
Instead I head to the Blushing Mermaid. 66/83hp as Larze collapses, then realise I've forgotten to give Lothander the scroll oops 2.
To the Blade & Stars. Hand Gaxir a gem and the scroll to Lothander, at 81/83hp so regenerating nicely. Back to the Blushing Mermaid and 83/83 just as I reach Marek (each conversation and transition seemed to reset the regeneration and part units didn't complete). Charge 5 of the Greenstone Amulet has him dead.
The Seven Suns is next, Jhasso freed in what seems like 30 seconds. Then the Merchants League, where the speed and regeneration wear off mid battle, stretching stretching it out for a little longer. Finally, back for Ramazith using the ring of free action against ghasts and eliminating the mage shortly after entering the tower.
The downside
It takes a lot longer to retrieve the dumped loot and sell it than the combat took.
Duke Eltan
He wants me to return to Candlekeep. Only if I can take a scroll of protection from magic and two potions (cloud giant strength and mirrored eyes).
Candlekeep
I'm arrested on false pretences, and fortunate that Tethtoril can free me. I escape into the secret library and from there into the catacombs. The scroll and strength potion are used, allowing me to loot the tombs and kill the various doppelgangers.
Prat
He's dead in moments and I start on Sakul. Then I realise I've stopped. I have a few moments to think about why this is considering my magical protection and eventually work out Bor had darts of stunning.

I can't even raise my hand....maybe my successor will do better.

Sorry for the long post below. The internet was down yesterday.
First and Final Update:
Diary of Fire-Hammer, Aasimar Berserker: Str 18, Dex 18, Con 18, Int 18, Wis 19, Cha 4. War Hammer ****
The beginning of this was virtually a re-run other than that I left the battle with Tarnesh until a bit later. The battle also went differently because in the first game sanctuary protected me from sleep as I was a bit quicker with my casting.
After Gorion and I were ambushed, continued northward in an attempt to escape the threat and battled some hobgoblins on the way.
I headed northward from the Ankheg area to deal with an evil priestess, but upon learning the truth helped her against Sonner and party who are now dead.
I also helped a woman restart her life after her dead husband refused to move out.
Upon returning to the Friendly Arms, I defeated some more hobgoblins and returned a ring to Joia. At that point I gained grandmaster in hammers. I dualled to cleric, choosing slings and sword and shield as proficiencies. As I am no longer proficient in hammers, I switched my melee weapon to the +1 flail that was on Sonner’s body. I headed towards The Friendly Arms Entrance, and once I had arrived there a mage attacked me. He cast sleep on me as I cast sanctuary. He got in one blow before sanctuary took effect so I lost 8 HP. I slept and entered the inn where he had fled from the guards. I cast command and then Flame Strike. He died.
Bentley suggested that I head to Nashkel which I did, but I quickly discovered that I was out of my league when I heard about the troubles there. I therefore headed back to Beregost where I thought that I could at least manage to clear Landrin’s house of spiders. On the plus side I gained proficiency in healing after a strange dream, and found some nice bracers and a pearl. On the return journey I was given a ring which to some extent mitigates my poor charisma.
In Beregost I helped Marl come to terms with his son’s death and did some shopping for Firebead. I have now become a level 2 cleric which has enabled me to learn an additional spell.
I then tried to clear Landrin’s house, but when I saw the size of the spiders, I used command so that not all of them would follow.
However despite using the spell one followed me all the way to Algernon’s bedroom. I charmed Algernon with my ring. He was in the doorway so I was able to attack it with my sling without any danger to myself. Sadly he died of poison, but I managed to survive the assault by using flame strike to kill it.
I picked up Algernon’s cloak, and got it identified at the temple. I then slept at an inn before going looking for the spiders again. I charmed a Morninglord who aided me against the other spiders. To my surprise he too died. I killed another spider with flame strike before fleeing the area so that I could don the armour. What amazed me, is that his colleagues did not rush to help him!
My equipment is now far better and I feel much safer; though am well aware that spells from spiders or mages could be deadly.
With this in mind I charmed a Morninglord with my ring and a Morningmaster with my cloak to fight Silke. I sanctuaried myself until she had used her spells. The charm on the Morninglord expired before Silke did, but I then helped out and was able to help the Morningmaster to survive. Sadly she did not survive a subsequent attack by a spider which I killed with difficulty.
I did not use the cloak to charm another Morninglord to fight the last spider as having slept; I was able to kill it with Flame Strike.
(I also didn’t need any more armour or weaponry.)
Following this I went on to do things a little more mundane such as returning Landrin’s possessions, sorting out the Dudley family’s quarrel, and getting a little backbone for Alanna’s neighbour. This ended up with me becoming a fully certified hero!
I am now going to see if I can find a sword for Perdue and a cloak for Gurke.
I found the sword and set off southward but found that we had to return due to injuries.
I rested at Beregost and am now heading southward again in the hope of finding Bassilus.
We still haven’t found him, having been ambushed again and again, but I have regained my fighting prowess which “just happens” to fit the armour and weaponry that I found on the Morninglord.
***** in Hammers; * in slings; and ** in sword and shield style.
I therefore felt more than capable of taking on Bassilus, Zargal, et al.
With the help of a charmed Bassilus, Zargal and his cronies were easy except for the fact that we had to rest afterwards. When we awoke, Bassilus was no longer friendly and I had to charm him again. Unfortunately before he was charmed he summoned two mountain bears which injured us so badly that we had to use all our healing spells.
We slept again before dealing with the ghasts and then I fought Bassilus. Again he summoned mountain bears, but this time I was able to fight them at a distance.
I returned to the Friendly Arms where I bought a helm of charm protection. It took nearly all my gold to buy it, but it saved my life when I had to fight the sirene. I didn’t need to worry about charm, only poison! They did poison me, and I had to use one of the potions that Landrin gave me.
I also killed a few hobgoblins after which I gained new clerical powers including freedom of action. I now need fear spiders no more. Mages however are a different issue, but I can cast silence which helps against some of them.
Heading south, I helped the archaeologist and helped myself to an idol. I then helped Brage. I then went to the carnival for a rest. Whilst there I bought a shield amulet, a necklace of missiles and a scroll of protection from petrification and I dealt with the murderer Zordral.
I am now in possession of the vast sum of 76 gold pieces, but I am well equipped and own a lot of equipment that I can sell once it has been identified.
Heading south I met Galtok who helped me fight the bounty hunter Greywolf. I then helped him against some kobolds that had been bothering him. Afterwards we slept, but during our sleep, were attacked by a winter wolf. Together, we dispatched it and again tried to sleep. Galtok slinked off during our sleep without so much as a Thankyou, but I think that we had helped each other equally.
After that I went to Nashkel, handed in the emeralds and killed a baby wyvern. After sorting out a misunderstanding about the wyvern I then traded in the winter wolf pelt and went to sleep at the inn where I was attacked. That assassin was extremely weak and died quickly.
Heading south-east I helped to get Rufie reunited with its owner. I then killed the fastest dart in the west along with that famous computer, Vax.
Heading west, I helped a dryad and a cat owner, and killed a lot of fauna and then went to the Gnoll stronghold where I raided caves and killed assassins.
I then went east to the Firewine Bridge where Meilum attacked me and faced the consequences. I then killed ogres, half ogres and ogrillon north of the carnival before moving to the Ulcaster Ruins where I defeated Icharyd using “Turn Undead”. I was amazed at how effective it was!!
I moved on to Durlag’s Tower and am now at the point where I would not be able to go up any more levels if the experience cap was in place. (Cleric level 8) I will from now on not level up until I start the Drizzt Saga. The amazing thing is that I have reached this point and haven’t even gone down the Nashkel mines yet. Dark Horizons does give a bit of extra experience, but not that much. I am thinking that the best thing to do is to export my character when experience reaches 160,000. (Is that the ToSC experience cap?) Then add the value of any tomes using Shadowkeeper before importing into SoA. That way, I will hopefully not be uber-powerful before going to Amn. (Assuming that I survive).
I went down the mines, killing every kobold I met and also a party of duergar who were waiting for me. I defeated them all without buffing, though when a shaman at the bottom cast horror, it caused me some problems and I was wounded. Since I ran into an area already cleared of enemies, it was not as disastrous as it could have been.
I was however buffed and ready to fight when I met Mulahey. I entered his domain ready for whatever might come, fully buffed but also sanctuaried. This enabled me to get right up to Mulahey and kill him before any allies arrived. After his death, one charge of the necklace of missiles was sufficient to deal with them. Two or three survived and those quickly died.
Upon leaving the mine, I plundered the caves and came across a rather foolish mage who was performing experiments with mustard slime. He attacked me using “emotion” “sleep” “magic missile” and suchlike and I was at death’s door before I was able to retaliate. Once I could retaliate he died quickly, but the mustard slime were more of a problem. Nevertheless, with the help of several healing potions, I survived and returned to Nashkel for my reward.
Another assassin called Nimbul was easy to slay.
After sleeping at the inn, I returned to Beregost where I met Elminster. My experience is now 149,000.
At the temple I was asked to sort out some problems at Restenford. I agreed, and killed the orc bandits. I was then asked to help with the Gnoll problem. I was in the process of doing so when I was attacked by Lamalha and her cronies. She “held” me with the result that I was badly hurt before the spell wore off, and even a potion of superior healing was not enough to heal me. However I killed her and Zeela, and “Holy Smite” killed the thieves who were hidden.
I killed the Gnolls and on the way back to Restenford, was ambushed by ettercaps, I cast freedom of action and then killed them. I continued on my way and was ambushed by improved spiders. I immediately cast another freedom of action spell, but was too late to sav…..
(In this game I don’t think that I made any major mistakes other than relying on my spells rather than potions to protect from web. It was a satisfying game however. I am quite impressed by how powerful a cleric is when dualled this way. He was kicking butt apart from that last battle and the battle against Lamalha. His problems would have continued right to the Gate as he couldn't use Spiders' Bane and couldn't summon anything that I could turn hostile to fight the guy at the Beard. )
P.S. I heartily recommend Dark Horizons to those who are experienced. It adds some powerful enemies.
Now is that a

The bandit camp was straightforward as was progress into the Cloakwood mine. However, Dej nearly died to a repeating lightning bolt from Hareishan (the latter did die!). Finally down to Daveorn he pulled back and killed the battle horrors separately and then rested using his invisibility ring before assaulting Daveorn. The plan there was to ignore his damage spells and just use a potion of magic blocking if necessary to ride out disabling spells. The first part worked, the second didn't - a control error (unpaused, when I meant to pause) exposed him to a spell; not 100% sure what, but probably dire charm as he died instantly.

Proficiencies in long sword, hammer, mace and short bow are decent. Stats are also very good for a random character, even if not quite up to my normal specifications
