He has now done nearly all the side quests prior to going to the city. That recently got him up to reputation 20 and he has emptied the shop at Ulgoth's Beard of everything he wants.
With the green amulet to hand he took out the sirenes and a few healing potions helped him with the flesh golems to get the constitution tome. Those encounters also got him to level 7 - here's his current record.
Not entirely to my surprise, I've abandoned safety first and nearly all encounters now involve Locus beating things up with his staff. That has put his HPs down low a couple of times. The lowest was against Greywolf, though that wasn't particularly dangerous as he got there when Greywolf hit him with a near-maximum critical and Locus immediately switched to axes. Against Bassilus the undead army again refused to die and Locus took a lot of damage against them, but was stubborn about not using healing potions - if one of the last couple of enemies had got a nasty critical it would have been marginal whether he survived.
He also had another woops moment against Tenya. I used to always use fists on her to avoid such things, but XP is so easy to come by solo, that I just leave it to chance now.

We made it through the Cloakwood Forest eliminating all objections along the way. Helping Aldeth versus Seniyad Jaheira was Dominated but just stood still patiently. Seniyad managed to hurt Dynaheir with Call Lightning but I gave her a Potion of Extra Healing to recover and Flamestriked Seniyad afterwards:

In Centeol lair Jaheira and Dynaheir soften inhabitants a bit with Skull Trap and blast of Necklace of Missiles but she managed to hit Dynaheir with Wand of Cold (it seems that Dynaheir is popular target as of late). Girls went outside where we helped them to finish cleanup:

Jaheira soloed Amarande's summons (not being hit even once) and then lured him outside where we killed him with ease. Then we made some Wyvern hunting (Jaheira tanked vs them great as well) and finally arrived to the Mines. The battle vs Drasus party was epic. We used nearly all our magic forces (Call Lightning, Horror, Spell Thrust, Blindness, Glitterdust, Doom, Hold Person, True Sight, Skull Trap, MM, LMD), wands charges and summons (Nymph and two packs of skeletons). Khalid saved vs Chromatic Orb, then was Dominated but luckily doesn't made significant fuss in our ranks. Two summoned Phase Spiders where incapacitated with Wand of Paralyzation and finally after a long gruelling battle, we prevailed and were able to catch our breath. Imoen need 5500 exp to regain her thief's abilities and I don't want to venture into the Mines full of traps without them active so we just cleared Mine's Outskirts and returned to Beregost to refresh and now think of to visit some unexplored areas (Gullykin, Ulcaster, Firewine)
Current state:
BlackStrider - Priest of Helm (7), 247 kills (Seniyad);
Imoen - Thief (6) inactive / Mage (6) , 155 kills (Dread Wolf); 1 death (Shoal);
Jaheira - Fighter (6) / Druid (7), 505 kills (Sirine);
Khalid - Fighter (7), 497 kills (Greater Basilisk);
Dynaheir - Invoker (7), 83 kills (Vampiric Wolf); 1 death (Delgod);
Viconia - Cleric (6), 22 kills (Hakt)
to be continued...

Final update for Locus. He went through the Cloakwood and mine with minimal fuss using his ring of invisibility and then picked up the tomes in the city before being sent back to Candlekeep. After recovering the tomes from the tombs he took on Prat's gang. After Gate70's recent experience I did consider using the ring of free action against Prat's gang (to resist Bor's darts of stunning), but couldn't resist leaving it to chance - Locus failed his saving throw at the first attempt.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have had the patience at the moment to take him far in BG2 anyway, so no great loss. I'll take a little break here and then try again.

Metley, TN human male shapeshifter
Cloakwood
No need to speak to Aldeth Sashenstar so I glug a potion of freedom to deal with spiders and ettercaps. The final ettercap proves challenging, requiring one antidote, one elixir and three healing potions. The final two areas are covered without stopping to annoy anything.
Drasus
Two nymphs and a dire wolf are sent ahead. Drasus and Genthore are both held while Rezdan is confused then dominated. I've cast an entangle and hit both fighters with lightning. I add insects to Drasus as I direct the wolf to Kysus.
I shapeshift to kill Rezdan, then swear at myself for not being able to appoach the held fighters. They recover, kill the wolf and chase me. I run, killing Drasus at my second standoff and Genthore on my third.
No sign of Kysus so I shapeshift and heal before shapeshifting again. His improved invisibility has expired and he is throwing weapons at me. A sitting duck, especially now I have boots of speed.

First things first, an impassioned plea to the Candlekeep officials gave my foster father a decent grave. Imoen didn’t like the look of the other highway travellers so I decided that diverting south could be a wise precaution and we soon had the help of a kindred soul named Kivan... sure enough the fates had an assassin waiting for me at the FAI but he wasn’t prepared to fight the three of us together so I seceded in reaching auntie J. Jaheira & Khalid had no helpful advice so we drifted north and requested the aid of an apprentice Paladin named Ajantis before putting a stop to Bassiluss’ evil ways.
Nashkel;

I parked Kivan for a buggy Minsc * so we could attempt Dynaheirs’ rescue but Khalid got slain by a Gnoll ambush so we recollected Kivan and pushed onwards... mostly I sang motivating hip-hop while they shot whatever tried descending the stairs. Kivan stepped out to make room for Dynaheir (agreed to meet us back at Nashkel Inn) and we grabbed the tome of charisma before making the trek back. I sent a berserk Minsc in alone to suss out the Nashkel inn & he quickly dispatched another would be assassin before going completely insane... we shot him down like the mad dog he’d become then grabbed a scroll of ‘
Equipment;

Branwen cloaked in order to get me a wand of ‘Monster Summoning’ and some new armour then we stretched our funds to purchase a ‘Necklace of Missiles’ and killed Grey Wolf for
The mines;

I had one scary incident when the head goblins got their fear spell off against us but the extra firepower proved decisive & Ajantis agreed to killing the evil Mulahey without talking first... after returning to Nashkel inn again and dispatching yet another assassin we payed the Carnival a visit to recharge our NoM (necklace of missiles) and a well-deserved rest!
* The current BG1NPC.TP2 install adds him at level 6 so I had to adjust his stats back down with SK before I could make nice to the wacky Ranger.
** Imoen hit level 3... maxed out her ‘Detect Traps’ skill and promptly dualed to mage (daggers).

There is a slight difference in the meaning of succeeded and seceded.
I presume that you meant succeeded. Sometime spell checkers are a pain and actually add errors.
Seceded was what the USA did when they wanted to go their separate way and not to be part of the UK.
Best of luck with your run.

Yes & no... I used it to mark the end of an passe, as in, I withdraw from my current party & reformed it again with Jaheira & Khalid but I do see your point. Thanks Wise... p.s. Have you tried the Sheena NPC mod yet, I'm thinking of giving her a run?
I installed it in my last game and was enjoying it until I got killed.
She was not the reason i was killed.
Another time she could have been. She is dangerous!
I simply fought enemies that I wasn't ready for.
I'm a bit of a Noob in BG2 compared to a lot of players.

Dangerous as in very powerful like the pc or unpredictably like a berserk Minsc? I like the basic back-story as long as she doesn't become so overpowered as to make the rest of my party just her cheering squad... it's a toss up between her and Tashia V1.3 but I still have to get to bg2 first before that becomes an issue.
Dangerous as in: If she is badly hurt, she will not be able to stop herself reverting to her dragon form. This can have unpredictable results, depending upon who is nearby. This never happened whilst I was playing. She just gave hints that this is the case.
As far as becoming uberpowerful. I cannot answer your question as I died before that had any chance of happening.
I have just finished my installation, so I may be able to give more info in the future. However I still have to finish my current BG1 game that I have been playing during installation of BG2.
Why not install it anyway? You don't have to keep her if you don't like her. What little I saw of the mod, I liked.

Drow Paladin: Str 18/99, Dex 19, Con 17, Int 14, Wis 15, Cha 18. ** In staves and ** in two handed weapons.
As my guardian Gorion brought me up, he taught me not to limit myself because I was a Drow. “Look Drizzt became a ranger, so there is no reason why you should allow your race to limit what you do. Why you could even become a Paladin!” he said.
That statement started me thinking, and the more that I thought, the more convinced I was that I would become a paladin, and a Cavalier to boot. Gorion encouraged my ambitions saying that we all have a racial taint, whether Drow, Teifling or Human. Humans call it original sin, but that all of us have the choice as to whom we obey, our sinful nature, or the opposite. The choice was mine!
In Candlekeep, I was badly hurt by an assassin using a staff. The one good thing is that I now have that staff in my own possession as it is +2.
We headed away from Candlekeep and were ambushed, Gorion being killed in my defence. I then met a weird old guy who told me that I would find trustworthy friends at the Friendly Arms Inn. What I found was an untrustworthy enemy, a mage called Tarnesh who tried to kill me. Fortunately the guards helped me and I slew him.
Joia asked me to get her ring back from some hobgoblins. There were too many of them and I die…argh.
Technically, this game is illegal as elves cannot be paladins. However, with a mod that I have just installed, I can play any class with any race. Since a Drow can be a ranger, I see no reason why he/she should not be a paladin.

We headed away from Candlekeep and were ambushed, Gorion being killed in my defence. I then met a weird old guy who told me that I would find trustworthy friends at the Friendly Arms Inn. However, since our plans were clearly known, I didn’t enter the inn but carried on northward. I was attacked by two hobgoblin, both of which I slew. That is normal for the days we are living in, so I didn’t give it much thought.
A little further northward, I met a woman who was having problems with her dead husband. I was able to help a little, and upon leaving the house agreed to help Sonner who was having problems with a priestess. Upon meeting her, I could well understand her reasons and helped her instead.
Intending to go yet further north, I came across a gigantic green beast and fled.
I ended up way south in Nashkel where things began to go well for me. I found some bracers and a pearl. I was given a charisma raising ring, and I learnt how to heal myself. I was asked to help with the mine’s problems but knew that would be out of my league at present.
I therefore made my way back to Beregost. I fought an ogre and as a result am better protected from missiles. I helped the Dudley family and Firebead and then took on some spiders. By running away and going upstairs in an inn, I discovered that I only had to fight one at a time.
Algernon helped me upstairs and sadly died just as I killed the spider.
Upon going downstairs, I rested before going outside. There were spiders out there so I ran back into the inn where I charmed a Morninglord as I had no antidotes to poison. Neither had the Morninglord or the Morningmaster unfortunately. They both died before I could kill the spiders.
I therefore had to charm two more for the fight with Silke. That battle went more successfully and both survived, though Silke didn’t.
I killed yet another assassin, this one called Karlat. I collected a sword for Perdue and helped Alanna’s neighbour.
I then headed south, killed some ogrillon and gained a reward for delivering a letter that one of them was carrying. I then tried to help Melicamp but failed, and killed Bassilus, Zargal, and his allies. I then headed west and killed a number of sirene before heading south and helping an Archaeologist and Brage. I then went shopping, buying a +3 staff a traveller’s cloak and a necklace of missiles.
After that I went hunting Ankheg and returned the dead body of his son to a farmer.
I then headed south helping Rufie a dryad and a cat, and killing winter wolves and bears.
I went to the Gnoll’s stronghold and ransacked a cave, killing yet more assassins on the way out.
Feeling strong enough now to take on the yipping demons, I went down the mines. They were easy to kill, but the kobold commandoes also injured me badly. There were some Duergar assassins in the mines who were wearing good armour, even better than that worn by the Morninglord!
Compared to the kobolds and the duergar, Mulahey the one who gave commands to the kobolds, was easy to kill.
I then went to the basilisk area, but didn’t meet any. However I did meet some adventurers that needed to be taught a lesson.
I had to leave for R&R.
I returned later and cleared the area.

@Grimwald the Wise, isn't Lady Aribeth an Elf?
Ud2, chapter 3:

The basic plan was to run around collecting tomes/ gear whilst trying to raise my rep & reactivate Imoens’ Thief skills so with that in mind I had sis memorise ‘Charm’/ ‘Sleep’ spells to keep Algernon from wandering away before I could Pickpocket his cloak... used the extra Charisma to help provide Ajantis with increased armour.
Trouble in Smurf town;

Going in via the Halfling house gave me the drop on Ogre Mage and a simple ‘Silence’ convinced Lendarn to charge up the stairs after me... Evil doesn’t pay boys & girls.
We don’t need no water;

I walked around the top of the map so as to have a solid strategical position before sending in Ajantis to tag the bandits... new armour for my tank, yipee. Tip; Opening with Two fireballs helps to resolve the boss-tent fight in our favour... aim at the leg of the chair and you won’t mistakenly kill Ender or yourself.

After killing Drasus and his gang I encounter a series of guards, tearing each of them a new anomen.
Buff to discover Hareishan likes to play with lightning. Come back later and you can see her get twice the value.
Brief video clip here
Note the occasional screen movement on un-pause - happens twice here and is annoying but can't seem to do anything about it
I follow a familiar path to clear the mine. The Humpty Dumpty guards are laughing, finding me less intimidating than the series of Cavaliers they've fought before. This doesn't bode well against the Battle Horrors so I ignore them to focus on Davaeorn. Clips to be added shortly.
Hareishan clear-up. A render issue at 53 seconds (remove this by jumping to record screen and back).
Removing the hobgoblin archers.
Starting on Davaeorn. Cut as a Skype notification arrived.
Davaeorn 8 seconds late. Cut again as another Skype notification arrived.
Finishing Davaeorn after another 8 seconds.
Easy. If only the game hadn't frozen after flooding the mine, fortunaely the auto-save after killing Davaeorn was in-place and I could flood the mine without having to fight again. Looks like the sound only works for so long in Linux then causes a series of buffer under-runs. Something else to scrap with in my ever-expanding Linux adventure.

Well, here is our Quest of Purification. The only Silke's prebuffs were Stoneskins so Call Lightning and Flame Strike were enough for her. Doomsayer got the usual Magic Missiles and Narcillicus got Spell Thrust, Wand of Paralyzation charge and Flame Strike.

Next we recharged our Wands of Heaven & Paralyzation and headed to the Ulcaster School. Imoen hit level and regained her thief's abilities just in time (before the first trap there) so all went smooth. Next was Gullykin. Dynaheir (under Improved Invisibility) soloed Molkar's gang (well Jaheira helped a bit with Call Lightning) and my True Sight was a doom for both Ogre Mage and Lendarn

Then we went through the Firewine Ruins and arrived to the Bridge.
Meilum was Doomed and Paralyzed. Kahrk was distracted by swarm of skeletons, followed by True Sight, Spell Thrust, Doom, Wand of Paralyzation, Call Lightning, Flame Strike and finished with stone in a head. He doesn't cast a single spell.

Now, with all outdoor areas safe and clear behind us 'tis time for Cloakwood Mines.
Current state:
BlackStrider - Priest of Helm (7), 262 kills (Seniyad);
Imoen - Thief (6) / Mage (7) , 179 kills (Dread Wolf); 1 death (Shoal);
Jaheira - Fighter (6) / Druid (7), 662 kills (Kahrk);
Khalid - Fighter (7), 588 kills (Greater Basilisk);
Dynaheir - Invoker (7), 99 kills (Vampiric Wolf); 1 death (Delgod);
Viconia - Cleric (7), 38 kills (Doomsayer)
to be continued...

Chaotic commands and the boots of speed help retrieve a tome of wisdom from Durlags Tower. The boots allow me to grab a tome of bodily health from a cave too. Then I head into Baldur's Gate where I am almost killed by retrieving the helm of Balduran (4hp left). My fur is a fire hazard and I should have cast a protective spell or two, or even used the spare ring I have somewhere on my
Iron Throne HQ
Potion of absorbtion, chaotic commands, oil of speed, barkskin, armour of faith, protection from fire, Resist fire/cold, bless, shapeshift. Now I can introduce myself.
I have to run around the floor despite glugging a potion of regeneration and three healing potions. The fight alternates between the two main rooms without a break. The Iron Throne mercenaries are dead but I have glugged a total of thirteen healing potions. Zhalimar Cloudewulf was dangerous near or afar, while Gardush landed a pair of critical blows and some magic missiles were less painful than Melf's acid arrows. At least I wasn't forced downstairs or onto the roof.
Would have been a lot easier with another level 5 spell to allow iron skins in addition to chaotic commands. Got 117k xp so 8k off the final level (10).

I am about to hand over a tome of wisdom to Jalantha Mistmyr when Varci Roaringhorn informs me that she murdered his friend. I'll retrieve the body and a geas over her dead body then. A flamestrike once more sets fire to my fur and I have to heal once before she is dead, and a second time after. Varci rewards me (level 10) and I ask Halbazzer Drin to identify yet another tome.
I tell a complicated lie to Larze the ogre (I am not me Larze), then cast chaotic commands before confronting Marek. This neutralises his confusion spell and magic resistance saves against a lightning bolt. He is dead soon after.
Ramazith casts a lightning bolt at me too, but I have 100% resistance thanks to casting protection from electricity. A shock then to be injured (19 damage). He's about to discover that the only thing worse than a werewolf after you is an angry werewolf after you.
More so when I cannot injure mustard jellies, so I grab a ring of freedom and tackle some ghasts. Even more when they follow me upstairs and block my retreat, and for my four healing potions and two elixirs to be consumed. Two ghasts are left and I am unable to kill them before my wounds become fatal.
Bad move there. Time for a break from single player.

To help Gate70 avoid single player for a while here's another multi attempt. After a while concentrating mainly on melee characters this one is back to the same formulation as our first no-reload attempt, i.e. Bubble, gnome fighter/illusionist (Grond0) and Fomin, dwarf fighter/cleric (Gate70). With both back to shorty characters this time buffing in BG2 should be less of a critical necessity.
Solid progress in the first session:
- picked up a twinkly ring at the Friendly Arm.
- laboriously cleared a route through various random monsters to get to the belt ogre.
- took care of some tasks in Beregost on the way to Nashkel. The journey was nearly fatal to Fomin as an ogrillon took him down to 1 HP (thank heavens for that dwarvish constitution).
- persuaded Brage to try and atone for his sins.
- rescued Hulrik's cow for practice and then stepped up a bit by rescuing Samuel.
- Caldo & Krumm described the route to a magic tome at the Gnoll Stronghold.
- Zal & Vax were separated (first from each other and then from their lives). Similar treatment for Sendai's crew.
- Rufie was left behind by his master and paid the ultimate price.
- Mirianne was grateful to receive word of her husband.
- Bassilus didn't say a word about his impending death (he was silenced), but his crossbow wielding skeletons forced Fomin to take a couple of healing potions to survive.
- Melicamp couldn't hold himself together.
- a few more tasks in Beregost on the way to Firewine Bridge, where Meilum got something in his eyes.
- Ardrouine and Farmer Brun became the latest to put good words in for the duo (reputation 20).
- Fomin was a bit gentler with Tenya than I've tended to be and she was fit to walk away with her bowl.
- purchased the green amulet and cloak of displacement in Ulgoth's Beard, but Fomin disdained any need for ring of free action (despite being threatened with being covered with sticky webs!).
- returned some household goods to Landrin on the way back to Nashkel and a confrontation with Greywolf.
- Bubble struggled to find the quickest route through the mines, but fortunately Fomin was kind enough to leave her a trail of dead kobolds to follow. Mulahey's troops were quickly dealt with and the man himself silenced to end any slight hopes he might have had.
- emerging out of the back door Fomin put another silence up and shut up all the amazons. Web, hold and command helped put them out of action.
- after reporting to the mayor Nimbul was the last opponent of the session. Blind effectively ended his challenge.
Here are each character's current records:
Bubble is looking much too cute for someone with charisma 4 (started at 3)!

Fomin is looking much too slender for a chunky dwarf!

I was a bit surprised to see that Fomin is only leading on the kills 114 to 109 so far. He does far more damage with his dwarven hammer, but Fomin's speed with the bow sometimes allows her to pick off attackers before Fomin can crush them.
Most spell use so far has been to disable enemies - sleep, blind, command, hold and silence have all been used extensively with web making a late appearance in the last battle. I dare say that holy smite and skeletons will get their fair share of use next time.

The second session of the day was not quite as clean as the first. It started OK as Tranzig was blinded and finished off. Then at the bandit camp Fomin chunked a few bandits before Taugosz was doomed and blinded. The problems started in assaulting the main tent when Raemon and Britik focused on Bubble rather than Fomin. They chased her out of the tent and halfway round the map before Fomin was able to finish his work and come to the rescue. In the process Fomin was reduced to around 20 HPs and had to take a couple of healing potions to keep to that level.
With the money from the bandit camp Bubble was just able to afford a robe of the archmagi - the AC improvement from that will make her rather less vulnerable if she's in the same situation in the future. Then it was off to the Cloakwood. The only action there was recovering Spiders Bane. Initially the ettercaps were pulled one by one, though Fomin did get stuck in a web trap and attacked by one of them - a scorcher from Bubble's wand dealt with it before it could do much damage. In the nest a couple of fireballs from the wand cut the opposition down to size and Fomin soon finished off the stragglers.
No problem with the party outside the mine - all failed their initial saving throw against silence. However, the inside was another story (or not). Fomin took a potion of absorption and tried to pull the lightning bolt trap into the room with Hareishan and her guards, but couldn't get it round the corner - that left him surrounded by lots of guards and taking damage rapidly. Bubble made the strange decision to help him out by dropping a fireball on top of him. That hit at almost the same moment as Hareishan's flame arrow, resulting in a rather crispy dwarf
Working down to Daveorn the plan was to pull the battle horrors back one by one. Bubble had two wands of frost in her inventory and thought this would be a good time to start using them. Unfortunately a bit of lack of communication resulted in the first blast covering Fomin as well as a battle horror - really changeable weather for the dwarf. He survived this time and a few healing potions saw him good to go after Daveorn.
Just to complete a day of elemental horror Fomin saw a lightning bolt coming, but couldn't quite get the required potion to his lips in time and bouncing damage saw him keel over for the second time, though fortunately not chunked. Bubble's green amulet beat Daveorn's dire charm to the punch and then her wand of frost trumped Daveorn's fireball. Down to melee Daveorn didn't last much longer.
The multiplayer session ended here. Just to get a flying start next time Bubble took Fomin's body back to the Friendly Arm and returned to the mine again, avoiding all encounters.
Bubble fighter 5 / illusionist 5, 162 kills (53 this session)
Fomin fighter 5 / cleric 5, 178 kills (64 this session)
With Fomin now having the boots of speed he is likely to start pulling away further on the kills in future.

Several brief sessions during the day saw Bubble and Fomin most of the way through their BG adventures and about to arrive back in the city after their return to Candlekeep.
In the city Ramazith was the first target. A potion of freedom allowed Fomin to clear the ghasts out of the way and the rest of the tower quickly followed. An invisible Fomin summoned some skeletons next to Ramazith and they helped prevent him getting any spells away.
A stone giant strength potion was used to loot Ramazith's treasure and some extra value was got from that by going to take the helm of glory from a master and his butler. Then it was off to pick up the Helm of Balduran and confront the Maulers of Undermountain. A few skeletons and a mix of disabling spells (such as blind, hold and silence) quickly finished them off - for once Wilf didn't manage to run away outside.
The poison quest was undertaken with the aim of getting the Eagle bow. No problems there and a couple of bonuses in the shape of a shield and tome were provided courtesy of Jalantha.
With the equipment roster complete Fomin used sanctuary to scout the Iron Throne bloodlessly and open up the route back to Candlekeep. Fomin looted the tombs and then beat up dopplegangers on the way out. The party were no problem with his scroll of magic protection still up, though he made sure to take Bor out quickly before he could make use of darts of stunning (Bor was also stuck in a web anyway). Another potion was added to turn the basilisks into easy targets.
Bubble fighter 6 / illusionist 6, 183 kills (21 this session)
Fomin fighter 6 / cleric 6, 220 kills (42 this session)

Strangely my elven paladin also serves Tyr. She has fallen for Xan, another elf, largely because her other suitors were not bold enough. ( Ajantis and Gavin)
This paladin however is unique. Well so far anyway, and it is only because of the influence of Drizzt. She is a Drow!!!

Core Difficulty: Will be a comfortable setting
Randomized PC Using excel I'll will randomize the player character
Real time I will attempt to avoid the turn-based style I typically play and pause only when to save the game or looking at inventory...or...whenever the game forces me to pause. I will not use auto-pause features.
Along with my normal playing style this is essentially my rules and set up. No mods, not even ascension will be installed because I feel that I won't be able to beat the game if under such mods...will start soon hopefully.

There was a slightly odd start to the session when a couple of rests to change spells provided Bubble with 2 doses of vampiric touch as Bhaal abilities. The only drop in reputation we were aware of was the 2 for flooding the mine before helping the slaves escape. However, it seems possible that innocents had been caught in an area spell without us noticing, so will continue like that even though DUHM would be much preferred.
Before returning to the city the duo went to finish their collection of tomes. A couple of skeletons provided distraction for the sirenes, while Fomin took the front line against the golems to get the constitution tome. Off to Durlag's Tower and Fomin quickly beat up the battle horrors on the way to get his last wisdom tome.
In the city again Slythe was the first target. He didn't last long and his death actually provided Fomin with a 7th cleric level. Unfortunately he didn't immediately take it and thus fell down dead as soon as he breathed in Krystin's cloudkill. Krystin herself stayed in the cloud to chase a skeleton and soon became her own victim as well.
At the palace a few skeletons and sundry buffs were used against the dopplegangers. In addition Bubble tried out her new emotion spell for the first time, which put two of them out of action. The remaining 4 actually did better than I expected, killing Liia and hitting Belt a number of times - but he survived.
Going through the maze Fomin protected both characters against fire and lightning to avoid any accidents with the traps. The experience there also got him his 7th fighter level so both characters were at their level caps. After going invisibly past the party they arrived at the temple to confront Sarevok. Just for a change this time there was no use of scrolls of magic protection. Instead Fomin showed himself to Sarevok and quickly ran away, leaving behind a dire wolf to soak up a death spell. Only Sarevok and Tazok chased them to the bottom of the temple; Sarevok was quickly slowed down and then he and Tazok tried to join in a game of tag with Bubble and Fomin. Regrettably they were not very good at it and, even though they saved against all spells, it didn't take too long to shoot them down.
For a bit of fun Fomin used a skeleton to get Shaldrissa to cloudkill the party outside - that resulted in everyone being dead or severely injured. Another skeleton did the same to Rahvin and his exploding arrow killed all but 3 of them - Bubble put the survivors out of their misery with a blast from the wand of frost.
Bubble fighter 7 / illusionist 7, 211 kills (28 this session)
Fomin fighter 7 / cleric 7, 229 kills (9 this session)
With her 19 strength being transmitted through the Eagle bow Bubble was able to regularly claim kills after Fomin did the hard work of injuring them, but she still trails a bit going forward to BG2.
Postscript: returning through the maze Fomin was surprised to find that not quite all the traps had been set off on their way down. Fortunately he survived a bouncing lightning bolt with 5 HP left - would have been a real shame to be chunked there. The duo then journeyed without further incident to Beregost to pick up the golden pantaloons, before reporting back to the palace and being sent on their way to Amn.

Following discussion about the ability to use limited or no magic in BG2 I thought I would see how difficult it would be to run a party of berserkers through BG1 without use of magic.
I am treating their berserk ability as non-magic and also allowing the use of the tomes, but the aim is to complete the rest without use of magic. The only place where I think this is likely to fail is coming out of the Candlekeep tombs when you have to go past the pair of basilisks. Assuming the party survives that I will probably allow the use of stone to flesh scrolls to get back any stoned members.
Thus far the berserker mob has cleared all these explored areas as far as possible (the only things not killed being golems and vampiric wolves that they have no way to harm) and are currently at level 5. No member of the party has died yet (need to avoid that as the no-magic rule means no raising).
To keep the early stages a challenge I avoided going for easy XP and generally took all encounters in an area immediately. That meant for instance Billy and Dribben were attacked while the party was level 1 and when only 3 of them had any armour. It was comforting that the party got up to level 2 during this encounter, though I don't think it would have changed the outcome. Level 3 was achieved at the Gnoll Stronghold, level 4 helping Laurel against some gibberlings and level 5 against the sirenes on the way to the pirate cave.
Rage has not been used much. Where it has been it:
- can provide the lead character with an AC boost when there's a need for melee combat (enemies without range attacks normally get shot up from distance). Where this is done it's necessary to closely monitor HPs as, with no ability to heal, any damage going below their normal HPs will lead to death when the rage expires.
- can provide immunity to disabling magic. Against enemies with magic normally only the lead character will rage and close in and others will use missile weapons. I think the main exception to this was when everyone raged inside Zordral's tent.
- can give a boost to HPs and damage to finish off enemies quickly. The only occasion for this tactic so far was the Doomsayer, who is a tough opponent and immune to missile attacks.
Here is the current record for M-aster, who is the protagonist. There are 3 more dwarves in the rear ranks (M-hammer, M-mace and M-axe), all of whom have 18 (90+) strength and low charisma and wisdom. The dwarves all use non-proficient bows (1 crossbow to mix things up even though it's inferior) most of the time, but will switch to melee if necessary to confront chasing enemies or when the normal tanks are damaged. The front-liners (M-flail and M-sword) are both halflings normally using sling and shield, though they get into melee a bit more than the dwarves. M-flail was generated with 17 charisma (recently increased to 18 with tome). He has also taken the constitution tome, though the rest of the tomes will go to M-aster.
