Scary stats Wise - look after that one!

I most certainly will. I'll probably use those stats to play him as an Aasimaar, A Teifling, an Air Genasi, and all the other human sub-races! Image IPB

Congrats on your run.

Before playing the Cavalier run, I actually decided to finish off a Fighter/Cleric run with an Aasimar.

Lightstaff: Aasimar Berserker, Str 18/85, Dex 18, Con 18, Int 18, Wis 19, Cha 7
Proficiency Quarterstaff: ****

AASIMAR: Aasimar carry the blood of a celestial being, the begotten offspring from the union of a mortal and a deity. Aasimar are usually good aligned and fight against evil in the world. They typically have fair skin, golden eyes, and often a birthmark in the shape of the deity’s holy symbol. Aasimar are blessed with insight and personal magnetism and are typically paladins.

- ADVANTAGES: +1 to Wisdom, + 1 Charisma, Infravision, Sunfire 1/day, and +25% to Acid,  Cold, and Electrical Resistances.

- DISADVANTAGES: -10% experience modifier.

After leaving Candlekeep I was ambushed. I therefore tried to return, but was attacked by dire and dread wolves. Once more I ran!

I arranged for Gorion’s burial and returned to pick up his effects, a few bags and gems was all it amounted to.
I continued on to the Friendly Arms Inn as he suggested and was ambushed by wolves that hurt me badly. Later on I was ambushed by ogres. Once more I ran.

Upon arriving at the gates of the inn, I slept and slept until I was somewhat recovered.

I then decided to head for Nashkel. I was ambushed by worgs and a wolf and again ran. When you read the epic sagas, it never tells of all the times that the hero had to run, but I bet that they had to run away too just to survive long enough to become a hero.

Near Nashkel, Lord Foreshadow gave me a ring and I found some bracers and a pearl.

At the Carnival I gained the ability to heal myself somewhat. I then decided that perhaps Beregost might be safer. At Beregost I calmed down Marl and took a book to Firebead. I then headed south at Mirianne’s request to get news of her husband. With the ring given by Lord Foreshadow, I charmed an ogrillon and got it to fight another whilst attacking the hostile one with Sunfire. Continuing on, I met a member of the Flaming Fist. He thought that I was a bandit, not surprising since I was accompanied by an ogrillon. In the ensuing fight both of them were killed. I returned the letter carried by the ogrillon to Mirianne and received a ring of protection as a reward. I stumbled across some spiders which followed me inside an inn. I used Lord Foreshadow’s ring to charm Algernon into helping me against them. He died and I used his cloak to charm a Morninglord. Between us we killed the spiders, but the Morninglord sadly died. His armour is most helpful.

I then decided to switch to being a cleric.
[I saved here so that I could play an alternative game with a fighter/mage.]

I then helped Alanna’s neighbour back to full strength and killed another assassin in the process. I then went to get a sword for Perdue which pleased him greatly, though you wouldn’t have guessed it from his manner. I was attacked by the household of Lady Valen, and by taking them on a few at a time was able to prevail. I then sorted out the family argument between the Dudleys and proceeded to Nashkel. There I did some babysitting before helping Albert find his dog. After that, I killed the fastest dart thrower in the west and his accomplice.

Heading northward, first of all I charmed the caravan guards who disposed first of Tarnesh, and then some hobgoblins. Sadly the guards were killed in the battles. I restored Joia’s ring to her and again went north where I helped a frightened widow being pestered by her zombie husband. I then helped a young priestess against some evil fishermen.

Returning south, I helped in the restoration of Melicamp and near the temple, I disposed of several dread wolves, a couple of vampiric wolves et al.

I then proceeded to Nashkel, clearing the roads, and killing more vampiric wolves in the process. At the Carnival, I dealt with numerous kobolds and killed Zargal.

Went to Ulcaster and was killed by the improved Icharyd who was aided by kobold commandoes.Image IPB

Bogwad the LN Male gnome cleric/illusionist
Recruiting two more level 1 adventurers.

The gnoll fortress is a dangerous place Bogwad and Khalid are level 1, Imoen level 2 and Jaheira 2/2. Imoen and I feel sorry for Khalid but Jaheira insists his 13hp is enough for anything we face. I make sure this is the case by sending a few gnolls to sleep - blocking the chieftain and his veterans so we can shoot them down in safety.

Before we can do so the remaining gnolls wake up. I blind the lead gnoll then doom and command the chieftain - he falls, darted by Jaheira. Our missiles are aimed at the remaining pair of veteran gnolls, hoping that Khalid has enough vigour now 17hp at level 2 to fend the blinded gnoll off.

He's killed it, silly man. Now he has to fight a gnoll that can see him and my spells are depleted. We've dropped one of the veterans but Khalid has cleaved another gnoll and is on to the next. There is no stopping him and he emerges unscathed even when an elite gnoll joins in. I introduce myself to Dynaheir and somehow end up travelling with her. She wants to rest and memorise spells, only changing her mind when I ask how she was captured. She won't admit it but I bet she ran out of spells and tried to rest....

As we reach Nashkel Dynaheir suggests we recruit Minsc. Khalid gladly hands over his armour - it has two minor holes caused by xvarts, not a bad result for a frontman. We return to Beregost where Silke turns hostile; our missiles foil her casting but Minsc and his 2HS are her downfall.

A blinded Greywolf is used to collect our missiles, then we pick up Samuel. Our way to the Friendly Arm Inn is interrupted by a huge bandit ambush great, ten bows and all my party are vulnerable. Imoen takes minor damage but I receive three arrows and have to glug a blue healing potion before we can escape.

Minsc manages to calm Tenya the priestess, only for a stray dart already in flight to antagonise her further and so he lands a fatal blow this is annoying when it happens. We feel dirty, so vow to make up for this starting with the ankheg that ate Nester. Once it is dead we keep away from the berserk Minsc until he regains control.

Another ambush - Dynaheir squeaks as they are aimed at her 6hp, armour class 10 = sitting duck so I throw her my bracers, Minsc stuffs his girdle over her and Imoen forces a ring on her finger. I cast sleep despite two arrows hitting me, and Dynaheir glugs a healing potion as one almost finishes her off. Another arrow panics her and I almost start to cast remove fear, but with another hit on the way there is nothing we can do to save her. We fight back briefly to allow Jaheira time to drag our fallen comrade and equipment to safety, then retreat hastily. 100gp at a temple has Dynaheir breathing again.

Our plan to deal with Arghain and his half-ogres works, but a search for a cave sees us stumble across Ioin Gallchobhair. Minsc glugs a blue healing potion while doom and blindness help us defeat them. Imoen finds a horible trap in a cave and disarms it before we are in serious trouble.

Gibblerlings and hobgoblin archers scare Khalid in another ambush but I remove fear and facilitate our escape. I prepare Minsc for fighting monsters, but someone uh - me has positioned badly and we have to move away from Mutamin so Minsc can intervene.

For a gnome Mutamin's lack of concentration is astounding and he is dead before getting another chance. I doom and command a greater basilisk and after two more basilisks are killed it is time to sell some loot.

Our return sees the remaining basilisks killed, and a few gnolls killed. Minsc charms a bear then we greet Kirian. She turns hostile, but Minsc has raged too close to us and attacks Dynaheir Stupid, forgot he went loopy immediately and had been more concerned about him attacking the bear. This is annoying as I have silenced all four enemies. We run, and I blind Lindin then Peter as they chase us. I manage to blind Kirian too, then we split up so Dynaheir can get Minsc alone and talk some sense into him.

Kirian is dead by the time they return, but she had summoned a war dog and Minsc loses control again. Dynaheir is again closer than the dog so is chased again his berserk is so frustrating.

Once the war dog is dead Minsc recovers again, and we stay a long way behind with our missiles as he approaches Peter. His rage finally expires before Lindin, but the battle is ours by that point. At these levels Kirian is difficult enough without Minsc switching sides but fortunately I managed to keep him from hitting or chunking a party member.

Minsc, Ranger 3. 21 kills, greater basilisk. ** 2HS, * mace, * long bow, * 2HWS.
Bogwad, cleric 3/illusionist 3. 18 kills, half ogre. * war hammer, * sling.
Imoen, thief 5. 24 kills, winter wolf. * short sword, short bow, * dagger.
Dynaheir, invoker 3. 5 kills, ghast. * dart.
Jaheira, fighter 3/druid 3. 33 kills, lesser basilisk. ** dagger, ** dart, * scimitar.
Khalid, fighter 4. 29 kills, greater basilisk. ** long sword, ** long bow, * two weapon style.

Dynaheir takes another fall while helping Shoal the Nereid, but gets a free revival. Minsc is carefully berserked against Sil and five other sirines before I loot a pirate cave under sanctuary. Resting at High Hedge sees Khalid held and killed by a ghast 600gp to raise him & a bit careless.

Nashkel mine is fun; a half orc cleric called Mulahey reacts badly to my doom-hold combo. A group of Amazons get uppity so we stop their spells then shut them up before Zeela, Lamahla and Maneira let Telka die on her own. Minsc is webbed as she falls - something his berserk fury doesn't help with.

I have Protection from Fear and Shield active so Nimbul is no danger, removing Neira means we can also get a decent rest in Nashkel. Tranzig dies in Beregost then we have a brief interlude to deal with Bassilus, charm Bentan, teach Meilum a lesson and take a few items tome, scimitar from Durlags Tower.

The bandit camp is next, with a rest after Ardenor Crush and a second after Taugosz Khosann. Minsc melees Raemon as the rest of us deal with Venkt. Britik falls to a dart from Jaheira then Hakt falls to an arrow from Khalid. Imoen clears a trap and the camp is ours.

Enough gear is sold in Beregost to buy more suitable items, then Dushai suffers from a double dose of ferret pickpocket. Our increased experience allows us to avoid two ambushes without any real danger on the way to Cloakwood. Imoen takes a cloak and changes the label Please return to Gurke Imoen, then we help Aldeth Sashenstar against Seniyad. Minsc has 70% electric resistance but the druid is dead before he can complete his lengthy incantation.

In the next part of Cloakwood Imoen removes several traps, the ring borrowed from Dushai will protect her if she messes up. Two spiders and an ettercap are removed then Minsc tackles three ettercaps together - Dynaheir stresses out somewhat and moves closer in case he is poisoned. There is no need, nor is there for a final ettercap.

We are fully spell buffed for Centeol and her pets. Minsc grabs the Spiders Bane sword with relish and tests it on a pair of phase spiders. On to the next area where druids hang out. Izefia informs us that Jaheira follows the order of druids that follow Seniyad oops, leadership issue there. Of course, Izefia doesn't believe we have deposed the zealot and attacks us instead. Both he and Peter of the North are Spiders Bane chunks, as is one of the baby wyverns too.

Faldorn remains neutral but Takiyah attacks us. Likewise Amarande. A little further into Cloakwood I try a new spell and send two skeletons to play with a hamadryad. Minsc tires of their battle and kills her. A guard with his bear and spider are removed from a bridge then worgs and tasloi from the other side. Minsc wants to explore a nearby cave so we refresh our spells and buff. He's doing well against a pair of doomed wyverns but a baby wvvern has bitten me twice forcing Dynaheir and myself to retreat. Once the troublesome baby wyvern is dead we can kill off the remaining adult.

Minsc is struggling to carry everything so I look in his backpack. He is still carrying Chelak around so we must return to Tiber and might as well visit a store before investigating the hidden mine. With replenished arrows, bullets and darts we plan to undertake a thorough investigation starting with Drasus, thankful that Minsc has managed to remain unconfused until our enemy are immobilised.

Minsc, Ranger 5. 103 kills, Greater Basilisk. Favourite 2HS & Berserk.
Bogwad, cleric 5/illusionist 4. 42 kills, Taugosz Khosann. Favourite Sling & Sleep.
Imoen, thief 6. 48 kills, Greater Basilisk. Favourite Bow & blank.
Dynaheir, invoker 5. 15 kills, Seniyad. Favourite Dart & Magic Missile.
Jaheira, fighter 5/druid 5. 53 kills, Sirine. Favourite Dart & Cure Light Wounds.
Khalid, fighter 5. 109 kills, Greater Basilisk. Favourite Bow & blank.

Sarasti, level 5 solo Sorceress

The abandoned shipwreck south of Candlekeep was the first stop today. Sarasti still had neither any summoning spells nor a Greenstone Amulet to protect herself from sirine songs so she charmed a few ogres to serve as bodyguards immediately after arriving. Shoal the Nereid was convinced to part with 5000 xp in the name of all that is good and fluffy, and our merry band marched south. Sirines were dealt with by making them waste their charm spells on a single wolf and waiting for their Improved Invisibility to wear off. +6000 xp, level 6, and a new spell for her spellbook: Melf's Minute Meteors.

Elated by her success so far, Sarasti headed south again, to the lighthouse. She arrived at night time only to find herself surrounded by several groups of Hobgoblins and Hobgoblin Elites (~12 knobgoblins in total). Instead of using a potion of invisibility and fleeing I decided to give them an open fight. Girdle of Piercing + Shield Amulet + dexterety 18 helped Sarasti avoid most arrows but she still got poisoned twice (Landrin's antidotes came in handy). Mad Arcand's Oil of Fiery Burning killed most hobgoblins who had been following Sarasti in a tight group while Melf's Minute Meteors took care of the remaining few ones. Of course I forgot to take any screenshots here.

A nice lady called Arkushule helped to fend off some dread wolves and sirines were killed using the same reliable tactics. Carrion Crawlers and their paralyzing bites made things even easier. A quick trip inside the treasure cave left Sarasti with level 7, Haste spell, +1 to constitution and a totally unfashionable cloak. Because of the latter fact it was classified as "meager success".

South, south again. Mad captain Brage was (with due care) handed over to the local mental asylum, archaelogical excavations explored, damsels in distress and lost hellhound puppies rescued. Doomsayer tried to object but was forced to change his point of view with the help of Haste and Magic Missiles. Sendai, Alexander and Delgod decided that they didn't like the combination of Web, Spook, MM and hasted Giant Spiders (who are immune to Web). Kahrk the Headache thought he was clever and climbed inside a big glowing bubble so Sarasti just hit him with meteors till he stopped moving. Thanks to Meilum's Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise meteors now hit for 1d4+8 damage each.

Sarasti was more than ready to investigate Nashkel Mines but I had sent her on one more trip across the map, to Ulgoth's Beard. She got a Greenstone Amulet, a Cloak of Displacement to help against Kobold Commandos and a Ring of Free Action. Dushai was charmed and bravely tried to protect Sarasti against her own summoned Giant Spider. Oh dear. Well, the ring was worth it, and not a single villager noticed the accident.

She's now in Nashkel, ready to travel to the mines. Mulahey, beware.

Angus: Aasimar Cavalier, Str 18/96, Dex 18, Con 18, Int 13, Wis 17, Cha 18
Proficiency Quarterstaff: ** Two handed weapons ** (when I got a further proficiency point it went in 2 handed swords.

- DISADVANTAGES: -10% experience modifier.

Whilst inside Candlekeep I was attacked by three assassins, two of whom were carrying unusual staffs. One of them kept disappearing which made him very difficult to hit, whilst the other staff just appeared to be a bit more powerful. I was unable to use the first one, but decided to keep it nevertheless. I used the other, and found that it had an effect that sometimes caused enemies to flee. “Useful,” I thought, and used it extensively. However, to my horror its use caused my charisma to plummet, so I stopped using it. Because of the attacks, Gorion thought that it was best to leave and find somewhere a bit safer. However, we found it little safer outside, for an ambush led to the loss of Gorion’s life.

Heading northwards after being ambushed, I arrived at the Friendly Arms Inn and rested outside the gates. From there I proceeded to Nashkel where I found some equipment and went north a little way where I was given a ring that effectively improved my charisma. “That’s good,” I thought, “Now I can use that staff again.” I headed north to Beregost where the ring was identified for me and I discovered that it was sometimes possible to charm with it. “That will be useful!” I thought.

A woman called Mirianne asked me to find news of her husband, and heading south was able to do so. Just south of the city I was attacked by two ogrillon. With the ring I charmed one of them, so it was quite easy to kill the other. Unsurprisingly, having such a companion caused a member of the Flaming Fist to think that I was a bandit. We were able to defeat him, but he killed the ogrillon. I found a letter from Mirianne’s husband on his body and took it to his wife. Delighted, she gave me a ring of protection as a reward.

I then began to investigate Beregost. In an inn Marl was quite belligerent, but I managed to calm him down. Certainly a soft anger turns away wrath. I did a bit more fetching and carrying for Firebead, but in the next house that I entered was attacked by spiders. The ring was useless, there being so many of them, so I ran. By doing this I was able to reduce the numbers attacking me to one by the time I went upstairs in the inn where marl was. The question then was, “Do I try to charm the spider, or the guest. I opted for the latter course, but he was found to be useless as far as fighting was concerned. However, on his body I found a cloak which enables charming. I charmed a Morninglord guard downstairs. In my opinion, he should have helped from the start, so I had no compunction about doing so. Down there were all the spiders that I had left behind, quite a formidable force. The other one also followed me downstairs. It is no wonder that the guard fell to their poison. I therefore charmed two other guards and a Morninglord. Together they defeated the spiders, though two of them fell also leaving only one left alive.

I quickly donned the armour of one of them and stashed the remaining equipment. Outside I decided that it could be useful if I had some of those guards to protect me and so charmed them. It was well that I did, for I was attacked by Silke and needed all their help to prevail. Later some bully boys at the house of Lady Valen also attacked and after running outside, the guards helped me to defeat them. Another guard was killed however.
I went back inside and managed to lure Bertram outside where the guards killed him. Lady Valen refused to follow me however and I had to fight her alone. I had to flee again and again to regain health, but eventually prevailed against her. However I was still suffering the effects of an acid arrow that she cast at me, so I immediately drank a potion of healing that she was carrying lest having defeated her, she kill me after her death. I was now without healing potions, but there was a staff +3 on her body. It is far safer to use than the other staff!
I headed northwards and took on Tarnesh and the hobgoblins with the help of the caravan guards. We prevailed without any deaths. (Shame really as their mithril armour and swords are excellent.) Carrying on northwards killed a zombie who was terrifying his widow and helped a priestess against Sonner.

I then went via Cloakwood to the Friendly Arms Inn, gave Joia her ring and went to Beregost to return Gurke’s cloak. He didn’t want it, so I stashed it before heading southwards. I helped return a dog and a cat to their owners, saved a tree, and disposed of four winter wolves before going to the Gnoll Stronghold. From what I saw of it, it should have been called the xvart stronghold, but perhaps there were Gnolls elsewhere. I found some useful items in a chest. I took them to the Carnival where, along with a charmed mage, I killed another mage and several kobold.

I am now a level 5 cavalier, not far from becoming level 6.

Bogwad the LN Male gnome cleric/illusionist

Cloakwood mine starts off relatively easy as Minsc sweeps Spiders Bane from wall to wall. He has to glug a green potion when hit by poison, and as he does Hareishan hits him with a lightning bolt too. No problem for him with the Helm of Defense and Boots of Grounding Speed oops, silly mistake at a place where many of my early attempts failed. He tries to move but the rebound gets him together with Hareishan. Imoen steps into the tangled webs and tidies up the remaining resistance, then we collect our belongings and head to a temple.

Once Minsc is back in action we return to the mine for an ogre mage jailor, Natasha and finally Davaeorn. This time Minsc has glugged a potion of absorbtion and we buff him against fire too. Imoen sneaks a look when Minsc is dire charmed but Davaeorn leaves him to recover and with no more spells being cast everybody joins in for a bit of melee. Khalid gets the last hit.

Baldur's Gate.
First we sell a load of junk, then engage in some entrophy. Then listen to Ghorak the diseased, and kill a greater basilisk. Next is a  silence horror entangle experience screenshot shows end of fight, text the start. Then on to the Seven Suns. Followed by the Merchants Consortium, and the Brawlers of Undermountain. Sunin is no danger but his guard ignores Shield and Mirror Image to hit me harder than I've ever been hit before. Good job I'm healthier than I've ever been before then.

An ogre mage in the sewers is our last job before speaking to Scar. With both the Seven Suns and missing citizen mysteries solved he introduces us to Duke Eltan. Our next task is to investigate the Iron Throne HQ although with about 40k xp each it may make sense to wait a while.

Poisoned! Do we have time to return gauntlets to Noralee, collect a reward from Nadarin for dealing with the basilisk, handing a sphene gem to G'axir the Seer, return Nester's dagger to Quinn, listen to Borinole Mann and agree to help Varci Roaringhorn? Of course, and we add in Arkion, Ragefast, Nemphre failed pickpocket, Ordulinian, Ramazith, Drelik and Jardak. Larze the ogre is out-distanced, doomed and blinded. Finally, Marek who won't stop casting until I have commanded him. His spell can follow him to eternity as we are cured. Quenash is "ferreted" before we head back to Sorcerous Sundries for another fund-raising. Perhaps a bit of shopping is in order.

Dynaheir and I look resplendant in our matching Archmagi robes, while Minsc has a composite longbow +1 in reserve and new full plate armour fits Jaheira well. Imoen already had her shadow armour but Khalid will have to wait for some armour better than his ankheg plate.

The Iron Throne HQ has two staircases - just what the doctor ordered for berserk Minsc. We've only buffed with spells but they protect him against flame strike as the doppelganger moves to the rest of us. Imoen faces it with the Dagger of Venom while Dynaheir prepares a Magic Missile and Khalid kills it with an arrow. Minsc is on fire as friend and for alike cast flames in his direction but the protective buffs are still holding. Dynaheir raises the temperature further but Gardush briefly breaks free to injure Minsc before being held again (plus extra damage from an already-dead Alai). Khalid tries to collect the berserk Minsc but he chases Imoen instead and she circles the staircase once before he relaxes.

Minsc, Ranger 6. 147 kills, Jalantha Mistmyr.
Bogwad, cleric 6/illusionist 5. 50 kills, Zhalimar Cloudewulfe.
Imoen, thief 7. 64 kills, Greater Basilisk.
Dynaheir, invoker 6. 19 kills, Seniyad.
Jaheira, fighter 5/druid 6. 74 kills, Greater Basilisk.
Khalid, fighter 6. 149 kills, Greater Basilisk.

Duke Eltan asks if we're ready to face Rieltar, concerned about our lack of experience xp ranges from 52k to 58k so I ask what he expects. More, apparently. More what? Just more. I ask him when he last got off his fat ar...and we are teleported to Candlekeep before I can complete the sentence.

Imoen makes for the inn to sell some magical splint mail and an enchanted shield. I know the look on her face and realise how brazen it was to steal from the Flaming Fist HQ. Winthrop is suspicious too so I spend a few moments allaying his fears (lying) while she heads off. I almost have him convinced when she returns with a diamond and necklace. Winthrop could explode with rage but must have a soft spot for Imoen as he pays for them too.

We should explore the library in detail but better to locate Tethtoril instead. Koveras accosts us, then we are arrested before we can ask about Rieltar. Ulraunt is his usual miserable self but Tethtoril can see reason and frees us, or perhaps sends us to our doom. We're trapped, no way out. As we wail in anguish Imoen struts off and clears a path through the secret room and the catacombs beyond. What a relief.

Prat is too quick with his casting, managing two lightning bolts, magic missiles and two or three scorchers. Minsc survives the lot but Jaheira is badly placed in a corridor and takes a fatal dose. With one person down we are trying to carry everything then I suddenly realise Minsc is badly wounded 14hp and enraged = borrowed time. I quickly heal him and thankfully don't have the dilemma of carrying two spare backpacks. Minsc gasps for breath, taking time to recover while my ferret empties a backpack or two. All we leave behind are a few arrows but a shop and temple visit are priorities.

Jaheira re-equips herself and suggests we return to Baldur's Gate.  Tamoko is waiting to greet us so we follow her advice and arrange for a visit to Rashad the fake healer. He's not scared of Minsc on his own, but he is foolish enough to be standing on a pair of snares and also to not realise Dynaheir knows invisibility 10'. The six of us quickly overpower him and rescue Duke Eltan before Dynaheir again makes us invisible.

I speak to Tamoko again on the way out, drop Eltan off at the harbour and head to the Iron Throne HQ to deal with Cythandria. Slythe thinks he has some more victims but our missiles tenderise him before Minsc pins him to the floor. As we inspect his remains I summon a skeleton and send it towards Krystin. Her immense capability is thwarted and the harder she tries the worse her self inflicted pain becomes. As Minsc moves forward she expires.

The coronation starts as we fear, and our first spells of horror and slow are resisted. Minsc redoubles his effort as do Imoen, Jaheira and Khalid but my second spell of slow drops one doppelganger as Belt kills another then a third goal hanger. Jaheira has stunned the penultimate one with a dart and the last is asleep so both dukes are saved.

Minsc strides towards Sarevok but Imoen punches a hole into the ego of the man 10 damage with a normal arrow, well done Imoen.

Belt dimension-folds us after Sarevok. Two stores are nearby so we purchase consumables before giving chase. Various jellies and a pair of doom guards are no problem to Minsc, and an Aid spell plus group haste sees him emerge unscathed from a pair of skeleton warriors too good result with a 2HS. Imoen has cleared every trap and even scouted out Rahvin and a gang of mercenaries. A cluster of web entangles allows us to kill them in safety after Minsc has taken a couple of hits. Doom and Command see Tamoko defeated and we prepare ourselves for Sarevok.

Imoen has a look around, removing two traps and setting several snares of her own. Then we buff and move in. Minsc is target, while Khalid dispels Sarevok, Angelo then Semaj. The latter has gone but not re-appeared on our snares, then we realise why.

I have doomed Sarevok while Minsc has removed Angelo. He moves, more concerned about the lack of Tazok than the presence of Sarevok. As he does, Tazok strikes. Minsc moves while Imoen and Khalid take aim, glugs another potion and returns but Imoen finishes the half ogre.

Sarevok may be barely injured but he's well and truly stuck. Despite the arrows and various spells he is still barely injured. Minsc glugs a storm giant potion and wades in, ready to retreat if Sarevok moves. We add another webbed entangle combo but Sarevok makes all his saves and attacks. Minsc runs around for several seconds then attacks as Sarevok sticks again. Within moments Sarevok is badly wounded but struggles free again and has Minsc cornered between bats.

Dynaheir launches a fireball but the bats have moved, so Minsc escapes the explosion. Sarevok has homed in on a nymph so Minsc attacks from behind. He's almost dead now but hits Minsc forcing him to retreat and glug. Minsc returns, is hit again and retreats but our efforts have paid off and a set of my Magic Missiles are too much for him.

Minsc, Ranger 7. 181 kills, Angelo.
Bogwad, cleric 6/illusionist 6. 56 kills, Greater Doppelganger.
Imoen, thief 8. 73 kills, Greater Basilisk.
Dynaheir, invoker 7. 26 kills, Seniyad.
Jaheira, fighter 6/druid 7. 79 kills, Greater Basilisk.
Khalid, fighter 7. 164 kills, Greater Basilisk.

With XP from 79k-82k one or more of the expansion areas is now required - otherwise BG2 with BGT (BG1) spell/lock XP means Imoen won't reach my dual class point before being whisked away.

Grats Gate70 - sounds like you had a solid run. Btw, your link about "are too much for him" doesn't work for me.

Diary of Angus the Aasimar Cavalier

I have decided to follow the suggestion of the Morninglord and hunt Bassilus. I charmed him with the cloak and then cleared the area with his help. He cast skeletons, who, with his help, killed Zargal, his allies and the ghasts. We then slept, killed a dread wolf who disturbed our sleep, and slept again. Bassilus then cast skeletons again, and cast protections on the group, in particular freedom of action upon myself. He then cast sunfire upon himself. That made him hostile. The skeletons attacked. I cast sunfire. He cast hold person. It didn’t work. We killed him.
I then went to the sirene area and using my natural resistance to poison and charm, killed them all. I also killed several worg and dread wolves.

I then proceeded to help the archaeologist and Brage before spending my hard earned gold on a travel cloak.
At last I decided to comply with Gorion’s wishes, so was joined by Khaled and Jaheira. I was then asked by Xzar and Montaron if they could join the party. We went to Ulgoth’s Beard where Montaron acquired a hammer a ring and a diamond. I didn’t ask any questions, knowing that I might not like the answers.

I left all the party at Nashkel. They were all willing to wait for my return, so they must have been happy with my leadership.

In Gullykin I acquired a new friend called Alora, a cheerful Halfling thief. Unlike Montaron she is hopeless at pickpocketing, but is excellent in the finding and disabling of traps and in unlocking doors and chests. We are currently traversing the land picking up equipment that I have stashed in various places. The intention is then to pick up Gavin, deal with Mutamin and head for the Nashkel Mines.

I sometimes forget to upload the picture first, other times put the wrong link and then update it. Can't remember if either of those applied to that screenshot this time but either PB or here then seem to take a little while to synch.

Although I enjoyed that run I need a change of pace so started a dwarf kensai last night and safely (ish) made it to the bandit camp. Might alternate between the two.

Good luck with your runs (BG, SOA / TOB).

A "break" before continuing with Bogwad. Meoru, dwarf kensai (**++ long sword, ** 2 weapon style).

He reaches level 3 without any combat outside Candlekeep. He thens get the girdles of bluntness/piercing and kills an ankheg to attain level 4. Melicamp (worked) and Bjornin get him to level 5 (15hp max roll). Most of the xvart village and two cave bears require of several healing potions.

Neville the bandit fights me off once but I grab his long sword +1 at the second attempt. Greywolf is tougher but kais, heals and healing potions outlast him. A reputation of 20 makes the cloak of displacement, a greenstone amulet and 10 healing potions affordable. The first amulet charge is used against Mulahey but he fails to complete a spell before falling. His minions don't last long, and I decide to skirt round the Amazons instead of fighting them.

An early kai sees Nimbul dead in one hit so I release the greenstone amulet without using it. Tranzig takes four quick hits and fails to cast anything either. Ardenor Crush and his hobgoblins are cleared in one go, then a group of bandits culminating in Taugosz Khosann. I'm already wounded but try a lucky hit as I run then stop to trade blows. He's badly wounded but I have to retreat befoe he kills me.

Four or five bandits shoot me up on my return so I rest again. They are cleared at the next attempt then I search fo Taugosz. Hill Giant and Absorbtion potions soon have him gurgling. Greenstone charge 2 is for Venkt, but my patience in waiting for Raemon to turn aggressive followed by a critical miss has allowed the mage to mirror himself. By the time he dies I have been Melfed and well as hit by Hakt / Raemon, so glug a blue potion before killing Hakt. Another two blue potions are taken before killing Raemon, then I move around the room to cure wounds twice. Britik lands one hit before being chunked and I switch boots to get 127% electric resistance the trapped chest heals 4hp, should have tried to intercept it more than once.

Two tomes are retrieved from the coast, one with the help of a potion of clarity level 6 kensai against sirines is impressive, can manage a golem per rest too but not sure what a critical could have done. Charisma goes from 10 to 11, and constitution from 19 to 20 activating regeneration.

I go through Cloakwood quickly, killing some tasloi for a cloak then using boots of grounding and a potion of insulation against Seniyad. Protection from poison, a potion of freedom and a potion of regeneration are needed to get to Centeol, then I get a potion of invulnerability from a druid as an enemy of an enemy.

I buff for Drasus to Davaeorn. The plan is to take the first five potions plus amulet charge 3, add the sixth potion for Hareishan, use regeneration and healing plus re-apply speed if it expires. I switch girdles and start glugging.

Things go to plan against the first four although with their to-hits I should have killed Genthore before Drasus. I switch girdles and boots to rush the mine, killing one guard outside and two within. Then I dump a lot of gear in a container and glug a potion of regeneration 34/84hp, wary of criticals. Several minor guards find their leather armour insufficient, then I descend further and kill a few more.

I sidestep a magic missile trap, glug the invulnerability potion AC drops to -6 and rush towards Hareishan. There are too many arrows and with a dirty aura I have to run despite her lightning bolt helping my cause 6/84hp. I am cursing for not glugging a couple of blue potions before attacking and with Hareishan still alive I run over a trap until it triggers. It rebounds, and my 127% electrical resistance gets me to 28hp cheese - but was about to die while wounding her so I have an easy kill. A guard steps up so I kill him and to my delight they form a conveyor belt, falling to my 4APR like dominoes without me moving or turning. Two guards are left, then I free Rill and Yeslick before making sure I have the boots of speed and girdle of piercing.

The next level sees three hobgoblins and four guards hit me once before they all die. Another guard, six hobgoblins then the final guard. I spring a trap and use my first kai as a battle horror approaches. I use a heal spell then check the oil of speed is active before using my second kai on the second battle horror. Two noises sound is good indicate some buffs have expired pause, check - no kai or regeneration so I finish the battle. My second heal spell is followed by amulet charge 4 not sure which saving thows are required so I can attack Davaeorn but I may as well have not bothered. The oil of speed wears off as I approach the mine plug so I know I've taken five turns to deal with the mine.

My first job in Baldur's Gate is to grab a tome of dexterity, sell some items and stash the rest before returning to the mine for the other items. Then I take a ring from Ramazith and consider what do do next.

It is a little way off but thinking about whether max buffs can do the coronation without having to pick the greater doppelgangers off upstairs.

Meoru, dwarf kensai.

My preparations for the Iron Throne HQ through to Prat are done, and I've paid to get my equipment polished identified too. I glug most of the potions, activate the greenstone amulet then finish with the oil of speed. Who's first? All together then - fair enough (no not really fair but tough) I switch from Aasim to Naaman too soon and have to switch back.

I speak to Thaldorn and have stashed half their gear in a nearby wardrobe as the amulet charge expires so they lasted less than 1 turn. I've kept one ring free action and race across town to speak to Duke Eltan. I race between the Gate Keeper, Cadderly, Koveras andthe Gatewarden - too impatient to wait for them to dawdle over at their pace. I'm arrested for a minute or two until Tethtoril releases me. The boots & oil of speed together with placed steps combine to allow me to avoid one or two traps.

I melee four phase spiders no monkeying around this time and they only last moments, skirt round another trap and bust open the final tomb. My backpack is full so I take what I can and leave. I heal and kai before facing the Elminster Gorion doppelgangers. A critical hit for 54 scares the main one and after killing the other two I have to chase it into a group of skeletons. Once it is dead I ignore the skeletons and kill the remaining doppelgangers.

I glug some blue potions as I move and switch girdles, realising I have used both kai's 1 against doppelgangers, didn't think I used the other, oh well and activate the greenstone amulet almost forgot after killing the first of Prat's party. A pair of phase spiders are next then I glug the potion of mirrored eyes and kill my first pair of greater basilisks.

Diarmid chooses not to fight so I rest twice, learning DUHM each time. I head to the Friendly Arm Inn, DUHM kai Tarnesh and grab the golden pantaloons. Then to the Blushing Mermaid where Larze has a case of mistaken mistaken identity, and the Undercellar where a clean-up is badly needed.

My buffs for the coronation include a potion of power and DUHM. For a moment it looks grim but Belt only takes two or three hits, then it looks promising but finally or quickly without the pause key it is over.
Sarevok gives me two hefty blows and clears off. Not a good omen as I can't throw a weapon to save my life :(

Sure you can - that's exactly when you need to throw a weapon! A kensai with a non-proficient axe is still going to do more throwing damage to Sarevok than any non-fighter character could. Just in case though make sure you've got at least one spare potion of speed in case the fight takes that long.

Edit - you're right of course (& I had 4 potions of mind focusing, 5 of speed. 1 storm, 2 cloud, 4 invulnerabilities, 5 heroisms, 3 regenerations, 10-15 healing, etc. Better to be over-prepared as I've had parties run out of ammunition against Sarevok before for example).

Meoru, dwarf kensai.

I traverse the thieves maze with the coronation buffs still active, using a ring and boots where advisable the skeleton warriors had +3 to hit, Meoru had +12 in return so even they were brushed aside. Rahvin and his gang can keep guard as I have travelled around them and entered the temple in search of Sarevok. I buff and attack Angelo, hoping to kill him before having to run. He's down but I am wounded.

I try Semaj next but Sarevok hits me again. I run and glug a potion of regeneration, looping round the mosaic skull to return to Semaj. We race around twice more then Tazok appears. Sarevok is held so I start on the half ogre only for him to hit back. I glug a healing potion and run again, killing Semaj as his images expire. I start using a neutral bat to block Sarevok and get two solid hits onto Tazok before a third finishes him. Just Sarevok now, and after trading a few blows I am running again. I switch to a magical throwing axe THACO 5 and manage a few hits amongst slightly more misses.

I've healed enough to have another go, step away and think I can return immediately. Not a good idea and time for another regenerative potion while axe hurling. He's badly injured now so I increase the healing glugs and go from cloud giant to storm giant strength and seize the opportunity the last 3 lines of left text is the first 3 lines of the right text so even a kensai can briefly melee Sarevok and hope for critical misses.

With Sarevok dead I refresh the invulnerability, speed and fire potions to deal with Shaldrissa, Rahvin, Carston, Wudei, Gorf and finally Haseo.

Final BG1 Stats.

Reklan the level 3 Human Fighter (for now) entering Trilogy No-Reload challenge...

@Gate70: Congratulations! Good luck in Amn - perhaps you can succeed where Trendan failed...

Trendan bit it tonight, so entering this character now:
Image IPB

Reklan traveled to High Hedge first. Initially he calmed Marl/killed Marl/book for firebeard/took down Karlat/Took down the 2 ogrillions south of Beregost/Took down Flaming Fist Mercenary. Believe it or not, all fights in this list were defeated using a single haste potion. Also, all fights involved running and slinging. He also got a sword for Perdue, then traveled south to Nashkel, skipping fights for now.

In Nashkel sold the Ankheg armor (decided will be plate/+1 ring for now), listened to Noober ramble, declined to take advantage of the bounty officer, got some antidotes and took out a spider problem in Beregost, giving Reklan level 3.

Reklan then traveled to FAI and found a wizard ring he can't use. He took down Tarnesh, and even managed to hit Tarnesh before he could get his mirror images up. Had to use a precious clarity potion but nothing to do about that. Gave Landrin her stuff, and also got a ring for Joia.

Full plate will be the next purchase. Doing Bjorrin's task to upgrade Reklan's shield will probably be done next session. In this early going, sling +1 is being used heavily. Here's the Character Sheet at the end of the session.

Good luck Corey with I guess a fighter > kensai > thief. sorry to hear about Trendan but morbid interest means I'll have to go look at the mangled corpse (if there is one).

I've also started a new game.  Although originally I was thinking of soloing in BG1 I decided to go with the same party in both games.  That will be a girlpower party of Viconia, Imoen (when available), and Jaheira.  Fetard, the protagonist, is a sorceror.

Thus far Fetard and Imoen went straight to the Friendly Arm where Tarnesh was quickly removed by Imoen's only backstab to date.  An enlarged party started travelling south, only to hit an immediate hiccup when Khalid realised he really shouldn't have given all his armour to his wife.  Soon after the fates got a bit of revenge as a mis-click saw Jaheira fatally hesitate and require a visit to the temple.

Heading south the party did a few tasks in Beregost on the way to Nashkel.  In the inn there Neira hit Jaheira with rigid thinking and then hold (the latter was quite helpful as it stopped Jaheira attacking any neutrals).  Neira refused to switch targets to Imoen, but expired before she could finish Jaheira off. Next up was a trip to Peldvale to pick up Viconia (surviving a large bandit ambush on the way) to complete the party.

Other encounters completed to date include Hulrik's cow, Meilum, Zordral, Samuel, Melicamp (survived) and Zargal.  The last of these saw another death as Jaheira's cure spell proved too slow to save Viconia.

Party tactics have mainly been using missile weapons with Viconia (who has easily the best AC) either standing in melee or trying to run attackers round.  For tougher battles Jaheira's doom in combination with Viconia's command are backed up by a series of magic missiles from Fetard.

Good luck Grond0, sounds like a fun party. And yes Gate70, in BG 2, Reklan will be a Kensai/Thief. When you import from vanilla BG 1, BG 2 lets you kit your first class if you wish.

Actually, he won't – kensai cannot be chaotic. I once made the same mistake and resorted to using Gate Keeper.
