Maybe ask your ISP if that's the case before spending all that effort (I would have thoght your ISP should at least confirm one way or the other unless they are as helpful useless as my previous one).

I had already gone through with it. My supposition was correct though. After re-format of my laptop, now I can access the internet without the ISP turning off my Internet. Unfortunately, the rebuild has been a very frustrating experience. I naturally want to put on all the windows updates so I can't easily be hacked again. However, if try to do them all, my laptop overheats and the updates fail. So ended up doing 4-6 at a time, went from 91 updates to 4, but took forever, from 8AM to Midnight. However, a number of times it would fail. Many times over-heated on reboot - had to let it cool for about 5 min. and turn it on, and sometimes it would recover, sometimes not. The last 4 updates will be hardest though, as they are big so overheat likely. I may not even be able to get them all, we'll see.

Sorry for the somewhat off-topic post, but this info does affect Vaquen's ability to continue his quest!

Ganger, assassin 9

On the way up to Ulgoth's Beard Ganger helped Tenya.  He had this strange feeling that he'd need the goodwill of her god to offset some of his future actions!  In Ulgoth's Beard he bought a cloak, a staff and an amulet and immediately used the staff to beat a ring out of Dushai.

He used the ring of free action to go through the Cloakwood without danger.  At the mine stealth poison shots quickly accounted for Kysus (level 7 - +3 HPs, improved stealth) and Rezdan.  Genthore was much more difficult as he was not easy to hit and a single lot of poison didn't do much damage.  After several days of trying stealth shots Ganger reverted to running and shooting / backstabs to finish him off.  Drasus' speed meant the latter tactic wasn't realistic, but he was rather easier to hit than Genthore and stealth shots produced 3 lots of poison to get him to badly injured.  A backstab took him to near death and Ganger used the corner of a building to find just enough cover to hide again and allow a further backstab - this one fatal.

Ganger stealthed down to Daveorn's level and used his speed advantage to backstab the guard.  The potion of magic blocking from the bandit camp got him through the traps and he then used a series of stealth shots and backstabs to work through Daveorn's defenses and finish him off

After running away from a number of ambushes he finally found himself in Baldur's Gate.  He picked up the dexterity tome immediately.  The wisdom tome briefly passed to Jalantha before she took a double dose of poison.  I expected that to kill her quickly, but she got a flame strike off just before she collapsed.  Fortunately the god had indeed been appeased by Ganger's saving Tenya earlier and he saved for half damage.

On to Marek. Talking to him got Ganger to level 8 (+6 HPs, improved stealth, short bow proficiency) just prior to a poison backstab.  Marek survived that, but his confusion response was too slow to catch up with Ganger's dash for the stairs.  After 2 failed attempts it was third backstab lucky for Ganger to finish Marek off.

Ramazith fell to the second round of firebreath damage.  Ganger sneaked upstairs and used a couple of potions of perception to open the desk (should really have used master thievery as the others are useful for finding traps and stealth as well).

I don't normally bother with the Seven Suns, but to get a bit of extra XP Ganger took them on.  There were a poor run of backstab attempts here (though this was the exception), but the job was eventually done.  After sneaking into the Iron Throne Ganger decided to do a bit more preparation before going for the end run.  Things obtained were:
# Meilum's bracers - piece of cake with boots of speed, a couple of poison backstabs doing the trick.
# tome of wisdom.  More running and backstabs on the battle horrors and dopplegangers outside Durlag's Castle before a first dose of the green amulet was used to get the tome.
# Shadow Armour from the Thunder Hammer Smithy.
# tome of constitution. Another amulet charge saw off the first group of sirenes. Backstab, hide, backstab was enough for Sil (level 9 - +3 HPs, improved stealth). One of Sil's companions was one-shotted, but the other turned hostile too quickly for Ganger to hide again and he had to use another amulet charge.  The flesh golems were immune to his poison, but a succession of normal backstabs soon dealt with them as well.
# picked up the violet potion at the Carnival.

Back in the city he reported to the Duke and was sent to Candlekeep.  He got the tomes by using protection from magic and violet + fortitude potions rather than use all his potions of perception (saving those for later traps).

Returning to the city again he headed for Slythe.  Potions of mind focusing, defence and speed were used along with DUHM.  His opening backstab was his best of the run so far, which Slythe would shortly die from.  Ganger actually managed to hide before Slythe turned hostile, but I chose to talk to him anyway to make sure that Kristin activated properly in case I wanted to use her to cloudkill Quenash.  As it happened Ganger's 45% pickpocket skills were sufficient to whip a cloak from under Quenash's nose and he just ran away.

Ganger hadn't rested after returning to the city so decided to write off the potions used for Slythe and rest to get his final Bhaal power.  While sleeping he had some dreams; he wasn't sure whether they were about himself or not.

Trug
A failed backstab means I have to kill a cloaked tasloi the hard way then run from the chasing pack into an area infested by spiders and ettercaps. I cannot detect (20% find) the spider traps so glug my potion of freedom as the first one springs. I hide as two spiders attack and run through several more traps to leave the area for good.

The next two areas are run through in shadows then I poison a pair of guards at a mine entrance. I sneak past Drasus and his gang to kill three more guards. Rezdan takes 30 damage but resists the dagger venom as he mirrors. I have tried to hide but he was hostile immediately so I run towards the entrance with Genthore chasing and Drasus closer. Drasus runs into the bridge siding and stops, blocking Genthore so I am free to hide and return for the mages. No sign of Kysus so I wait for the images to expire and finish off Rezdan before running in the opposite direction to hide again.

By this time Kysus has joined Genthore and Drasus so I backstab him and fail to hide around a corner. I run but Drasus hits me once so I leave the area to rest as I cannot face him in a fair fight.  Genthore is standing over Kysus so three poisoned backstabs give me two sets of loot, then I rest but am spotted by guards. I have to run past Drasus before returning to Nashkel to sell the looted items before returning. I drop out of the shadows as I near Drasus and he chases me to the mine entrance where I hide inside and sneak back out. My first poisoned backstab fails and I hide inside the entrance but he is there so quickly that I have to retreat again with my hide wasted. On the third attempt I manage to hide and my next backstab works. I manage to hide slightly quicker and apply a third backstab (no poison) with more venom. The poison is slowing him and kills him as I hide again and had positioned for another backstab.

I test the boots of speed with another trip to the Nashkel sales and back. Potions of mind focusing, absorbtion, fire resistance and speed are used oops, was fatigued so should have rested then despite common sense I attack Hareishan. Three backstabs with hasted hides sort her out but I have to glug three healing potions before remembering to free Yeslick and Rill. Davaeorn is next, and a brief check reveals I have no poison left after using it on Drasus days earlier - curse that forgotten rest. There is a guard and I fluff a hide then talk instead of backstab grr stupid so quickly reposition and hide before applying two backstabs.

I disarm two traps and a third fails to harm me as I dive into a side room and loop round to backstab a mirror image from Davaeorn. 3 misses, 5 hits. A harmless fireball. Another harmless trap. Charm person, hold person one saved but the mind focusing potion says it gives mind shield so was trying it out here and seems to work - no need for the greenstone amulet from what I can see. A long sequence of backstabs follows and twobeat his mirror images. Assassin 7: 25>30hp, +5% HIS, MS, find traps.

In Baldur's Gate Marek survives a poison backstab so I have to kill Jalantha Mistmyr and help Lothander. A backstab on Larze works but a patron blocks my retreat and he hits me hard - almost crushed to paste. Nothing a dozen or so poison arrows won't solve, then I rest before heading to Marek. No sign of him so I chat to Lothander at the fair and again at the Blade and Stars. Two poisoned backstabs are enough to chunk Marek then I clear my backpack ready for the Iron Throne HQ. I sneak in and return with two pieces of evidence plus verbal confirmation from Thaldorn.

I tell Scar his jobs can wait and demand an audience with Duke Eltan. I briefly pop downstairs to hand an angel ring to Fergus then return with my evidence and am sent to Candlekeep. After obtaining a ring from Koveras I am framed for murder and freed by Tethtoril (although he has to wait until I emerge from the shadows). The traps down here are too much for me so I use a scroll to protect myself from magic and glug a potion of master thievery. Now 75% locks - glug a second potion. 115% locks, that's more like it. I've soon looted three tombs and departed. I sneak past some obvious doppelgangers and although there is no need I backstab Prat then teach him that his gang shouldn't play hide and seek in twisty corridors (the magic globe makes it harder for me to see when I have hit or missed - enabling the sound helps sort that out). Sakul is first to fall, then Tam. Bor has a temporary reprieve thanks to backstabbed acid arrows (duh) then finally Prat. I sneak past spiders and basilisks but stop to chat to Diarmid. Two rests mean I have two DUHM special abilities.

Tamoko wants a word with me, then I read the two magical tomes just retrieved. I poison backstab Slythe and hide as an otherwise neutral courtesan attacks him -big mistake. A second backstab adds more poison and I can hide again for a decisive third strike. Assassin 8: 30>36hp, +5% HIS, MS, locks, * shortbow.

If there is to be assassinations at the duchal palace coronation I'm going to be there playing my part expecting this to require an upstairs/downstairs routine with arrows and maybe a wand if I can find a suitable one.

Ok Grond0, what is going? What/who is Trug? Do you have two concurrent runs or what? Same game? Different one? Thanks for clarification.

See post by Gate70 a couple of days ago - essentially we each started with the same random character to see how our progress would compare. Trug is Gate70's character, but I've just buried his descriptions of each stage in my posts to give some sort of rationale for having 2 identical characters.

Ganger, assassin 9

Ganger has continued to make progress in his quests, though he somehow feels that someone else in his position could have been rather quicker.  That might be due to his occasional lapse, like starting off to the coronation at the palace, before detouring to Slythe's body to pick up an invitation!

As the fight with the greater dopplegangers is probably the most dangerous fight in the game for an experienced player Ganger pushed the boat out with the following potions, mind focusing x 3 (2 added to previous 1 still running from the fight with Slythe), fortitude, defense, strength, speed, power and regeneration.  That lot was topped off with DUHM and poison weapon.

The aim was to try and get as many of the dopplegangers concentrated on him as possible and three initially came for him.  The other three went for the dukes, but with strength 21 using the eagle bow at 3 APR and THAC0 of 3 Ganger's poisoned arrows were pretty vicious and quickly cut that down to two, then one.  However, the other dopplegangers had hit him hard and he had to cut and run at that point - one of his attackers breaking off and heading for the dukes.

A snap shot while running poisoned the one attacking Liia and would shortly kill it, but not before it was able to deal a mortal blow to Liia.  Fortunately the other remaining doppleganger left Belt alone on Liia's death and came for Ganger meaning all the remaining 3 were chasing him.  That made it simple to run them round shooting now and then until they were all dead. Just how quick the combat was can be illustrated by the fact that Ganger's poison weapon ability used before the fight started only ran out with the last doppleganger at injured status (seconds later it was dead, meaning combat lasted less than 5 rounds).

Belt was convinced by the documentary evidence Ganger had taken from Slythe and told the guards to arrest Sarevok, but he was teleported away by a fellow conspirator and  Belt told Ganger to go after him and exact justice.  Before heading down the stairs Ganger had a quick think about what he might have done differently at the palace.

Trug
I'm dressed for the coronation but have a look around first remove the fog of war and have clear running routes. I glug mind focusing, speed and power potions before switching to arrows of dispelling and adding DUHM and poison weapon. As the doppelgangers attack I dispel and poison one then a second although this allows the others to attack me as I prioritise saving the dukes. I try a wand-strike then dispel a third enemy. I am blocked and hit as two doppelgangers die. I hit the third with two arrows and it panics. Another shot and it is dead with both dukes alive and the remaining doppelgangers chasing me rather than them.

I dispel two more doppelgangers as the third panics and heads into the cellar. A second coating of poison on arrows of biting allows me to hit each of the two as they close in on me. The mercenaries dispose of one as I drop the other. I cure light wounds and hide before heading into the cellar with a poisoned backstab. I have a quick look around but cannot open or force a door and have to hide as two guards close in, so I return to the coronation.

I hand my evidence over to Liia and take aim at Sarevok. I miss, as do two backstabs and he teleports away. Belt sends me after him.

Ganger, assassin 10

A few jellies got Ganger his last level (+6 HPs, improved find traps) so he left the rest of the enemies alone, but used a potion of invisibility and a couple of potions of perception to remove the traps on the way down to find Sarevok's hiding place.

At the underground temple renewed a few buffs and removed the traps near the statues to reduce the chance of any accidents.  Then opened hostilities with an arrow of dispelling on Sarevok.  That missed, but Ganger had moved back quickly enough to hide successfully.  Angelo had appeared in response to the initial attack, but only Sarevok had followed, so Ganger didn't need his fire resistance and invisibility potions to persuade Sarevok to kill Angela.  Ganger used more stealth shots against Sarevok - the second striking home to slow him down.  Using DUHM and acid arrows Ganger was now doing about 10 damage per shot and, although Sarevok was immune to his poison, that got him to injured before DUHM ended.  With the remainder of his 40 acid arrows Sarevok was taken to badly injured and 28 arrows of biting got him to near death (renewing potion of speed during this).  He still had 18 dispelling arrows and could have continued to shoot Sarevok, but chose to switch to his staff.  With his speed advantage he could stealth at will even without the use of the statues on the left of the temple, so Sarevok was always helpless in the combat.  Two successful backstabs (and half a dozen unsuccessful ones) later Sarevok recognised that unpalatable fact.

Before reporting back to the Duke Ganger went to the Friendly Arm Inn and used a couple of thieving potions to steal some clothing (mis-clicked on dialogue options previously so didn't get given the pantaloons when he returned Landrin's goods).  While in the Inn he rested and, in a manner now becoming familiar to him, wondered about what he might have done differently with his life.

Trug
I need some more items if I am to deal with Sarevok. A pair of golden pantaloons from a noble, the helm of Balduran from the Helm & Cloak inn and the ring of Koveras from one of my hidey-holes. I could do with another potion of power; Lamahla and her amazons fall to arrows of biting and the dagger of venom. I purchase a few more items and am finally ready.

The temple of Bhaal
Sarevok is hit by my third arrow of dispelling by which time Angelo has de-buffed and badly wounded me in a chase around the temple. With Sarevok slowed I am able to hide and glug a potion of regeneration. Tazok and Sarevok have turned on Angelo and destroyed him so my main threat falls to in-fighting while I don't have to worry about being surprised by Tazok either. After glugging potions I dispel the mirror images from Semaj twice. Two backstabs and melee finishes him. Tazok takes seven backstabs and then it is time for Sarevok.

I drag him into a web and shoot him with poisoned arrows of biting repeatedly. Half a dozen ice arrows, a similar amount of piercing arrows, four successful backstabs, some acid arrows and then arrows +2. I cycle through these options a few times then finish with three or four backstabs. Assassin 9: 36>38hp, +5% shadows, silence, detect traps.

With 113k xp Belt decides I am ready to sort out another issue for him, and sends me to Athkatla with a letter.

This sounds like a turn of events I'd like to have in my game. I have always been annoyed at not being able to loot the final battle corpses in peace. What mod makes the game not end when Sarevok dies?

Use BGT (Baldur's Gate Trilogy) instead of (Easy)TuTu.

You could use their equipment to do more in BG1, such as werewolf island.  However, unless you have further mods installed the only equipment that survives the transition to Irenicus' dungeon are things that could have made it in vanilla.

Speaking of which I got a cool suprise with Corthief. Helm of Balduran useless to Corthief (well, at least until UAI which being multi-class would have been a LONG, LONG time). Claw of Kazgarath not too good, we need our HP and our Saves vs death really don't need to be made any worse than they are. So I vaguely recall the ring of Koveras comes through, so kept that on my character in BG1 though didn't use it, and sure enough when I opened the chest in Irenicus Dungeon, that ring was there! I'll have to remember that the next time I play a caster class...

There is a significant difference in BGT compared to vanilla. In vanilla only 1 thing comes through from each of a couple of different lists, but in BGT everything that is on either list can come through - so it is possible to have Helm of Balduran and Claw / Horn of Kazgoroth etc.

Time for another try with a monk, Grunn.
Stats 18/18/18/13/9/9.

Progress report (2 hours).
  • Tidied up Candlekeep, helped Marl, Firebead, Brage, Melicamp (alive), Joia, Joseph, Farmer Brun.
  • Purchased cloak of displacement, greenstone amulet. Unsheys ogre stunned/sneaked for girdle of piercing.
  • Killed Mulahey (stun from shadows near chest failed. 2nd stun from shadows with the amulet activated was out of kobold sight - it also failed but he tried to surrender then turned yellow. A 3rd hit from the shadows was fatal and none of the minions came to help
  • Stunned Nimbul. Tranzig saved so killed him from the shadows with several hits.
  • Sneaked through the bandit camp - had to glug a blue potion and run to hide again when stealth failed and I didn't notice. Rested and sneaked into the tent, grabbed the evidence (boots of grounding & insulation potion) before Raemon noticed me and after a chase around the tent managed to hide from him and escape.
  • Sneaked through all of Cloakwood (potion of freedom in spider area).
  • Sneaked into Cloakwood mine, distracted battle horrors and met Davaeorn (level 4). Resisted hold person once, held a second time in a safe place and in the shadows. Fist against staff from that point.
  • Dealt with Caldo/Krumm to get the girdle of bluntness. Raided my stash to take potions of heroism, stone giant strength, absorbtion and invulnerability plus a scroll of protection for magic.
  • Girdle, potions and scroll used to obtain the boots of speed with no damage taken.

With the boots of speed I am able to make better use of the shadows. I grab my pantaloons and head to Baldur's Gate for a brief bit of trading then bluff some evidence out of Thaldorn. I fob Scar off and gain an audience with Duke Eltan; he scratches his head when he sees my lack of equipment but I explain Candlekeep is just a big library.

Back in Candlekeep I put on a ring that Koveras says originated from Gorion - how fortunate I'd just sold a similar ring for an outrageous sum. I rush upstairs to see if Tethtoril can validate this claim, only to be arrested for murder. Tethtoril knows I am innocent though and releases me into a secret library. A scroll, potion and hiding works wonders and I'm soon breathing fresh air with the contents of three tombs in my backpack.

Monk 7
By all accounts Slythe and the coronation assassins will be dangerous enemies so I decide to hone my skills before investigating further. I'd located a protection from petrification scroll so clear a gnomish rock garden, not needing to use the stone form or stone giant strength potions I'd kept in reserve.

I go back to finish off the bandit camp, not bothering about the majority of enemies but picking on the named individuals. Ardenor Crush and Taugosz Khosann are first, followed by Venkt, Hakt, Raemon and Britik. I've had enough of a change, so head back into Baldur's Gate. Duke Eltan is rescued from Rashad, Ramazith DUHM'd before he can head upstairs and Larze is sent for an eye-test. My buffs take care of Slythe and I head for the coronation after picking up a potion of power.

Liia is quickly overwhelmed and I am hit badly so rush upstairs. Five of the six doppelgangers follow me and I grin. A potion of regeneration is glugged and I head up another flight of stairs into two Flaming Fist mercenaries. The darts have proved useless (even with dexterity 25) so I switch to my fist and take two at a time while glugging three healing potions. I'm not sure the mercenaries gave much more than moral support but either way five of the six are down so I return just in time to see Belt chunk the last of them. Sarevok is torn between fight/flee, and when he departs I am sent after him.

4.5 hours since I started, would say game time is 3-3.5 hours

A skeleton warrior, zombie, skeleton and ghast give me my final experience before facing Sarevok and his pals.

After a couple of circuits Sarevok is webbed and I hide from Angelo then glug a potion before Semaj arrives. Angelo was out of sight but rushes over as Semaj casts a fireball on us. Angelo has injured Tazok as I hide so the two of them are fighting each other. Tazok chunks Angelo then I add several backstabs around a small pillar to finish Tazok. With them dead I glug some more potions and visit Semaj.

I hit a mirror image and Sarevok attacks, but I lose him around the pillar - he must be staring at the body of Tazok and the chunks of Angelo. I return to finish Semaj, then toy with Sarevok. He's fast though, and three oils of fiery burning hardly touch him. A dozen or so traps over the huge mosaic skull injure him then I hide. A few hits, the wand of the heavens, maybe some darts which I can't get to hit. After a while I decide my shadow kicks are best (15-23 damage seen) and although I get the odd hit in return it isn't long before Sarevok gives up.

I have the pantaloons and ring of Koveras with me so head straight to Belt and on to Amn as soon as I am rested.

Thieves maze was stealth, and a scroll of protection from the two skeleton warriors (one trapped to death the other punched twice at the end) which outlasted Semaj and then a second scroll back from Winski. Edit, the battle horrors or doom guards (mental block as to which) were left - I took one hit and decided not to fight them and two mustard jellies were immune to fists so I nipped in the nearby dead-end and stealthed past them. All the other jellies/slimes were easy pickings.

I think I've tried some alternate monk HLA's many years ago but not sure it was oversight. From memory I didn't get on too well with them as I could never remember which one did what (solar stance, lunar stance, etc). Will go and read up on them and give it a think.

They can be quite fun, but suffer really badly from the lack of GWW and Hardiness during the mid to late game. This essentially eliminates non-fist combat from consideration -- which is a shame because it's proabably required for some late-game encounters.

My solo SCS/SCSII (non-tacitcal-challenge) Oversight monk made it to the hell encounter but was slain by a (aTweaks?) Balor which offers no save against its vorpal attack. I documented the run here if you're interested.

I can remember AnonymousHero. I can see a lack of GWW being a challenge for a few encounters but isn't one of the new powers an enhanced hardiness at the expense of magical protection.

That's Flip Resistances. I've never tried an OMonk, but I've fought alongside Balthazar at the Throne a number of times.

FYI: Here's the Oversight HLA list.

*Apologies to those who see this as off topic- just trying to help Gate70 decide before he exports.

Monk High Level Abilities

In unmodded Throne of Bhaal, monks have access to the same pool of High Level Abilities as fighters. This seems lame. This component will give monks their own set of High Level Abilities instead, most of which should be quite familiar to anyone who has played through Throne of Bhaal before.

Shadowless Kick

This kick throws the target back, knocks the target unconscious, and deals 4d8 points of damage.

Tiger Strike

A more powerful form of Shadowless Kick, this power ensures every blow for the next round is a critical hit. In addition, every blow for the next two rounds throws the target back and knocks the target unconscious.
Prerequisite: Shadowless Kick.

Dragon Fist

With a blow, the monk strips away the magical protections of the target.

Faster Than The Eye

By concentrating briefly on another area within 4000 feet, the monk can instantly transport herself there.
Prerequisite: Feet of the Wind.

Flip Resistances

The monk's magic resistance converts into physical damage resistance for a number of rounds equal to twice the monk's level. The monk also becomes immune to backstab for the same duration.

Solar Stance

Solar Stance renders nearby enemies more vulnerable, reducing the saving throws of any within 60 feet of the monk by 4. It creates a cloud of glittering golden particles that fill the air for twenty feet around the monk, revealing invisible creatures. All enemies in the cloud must roll a successful saving throw vs. spell or be blinded (-4 to attack rolls, saving throws, and Armor class) until the dust fades, after 4 rounds. Also, a blast of fire emanates from the monk, scorching and throwing back everyone in a 30 foot radius, though the stance protects the monk from the flames.
Prerequisite: Tiger Strike.

Lunar Stance

A monk who strikes this stance gains a +5 bonus to Saving Throws vs. Death, a + 2 bonus to luck, and becomes immune to Slay, Imprisonment, Petrification, Level Drain, Disintegrate, and Time Stop. The duration of this power is four rounds.
Prerequisite: Solar Stance.

Shadow Stance

This stance causes the monk to instantly become both invisible, as per the spell Improved Invisibility, and immune to divination spells such as True Seeing. This power lasts for 23 rounds.
Prerequisite: Lunar Stance.

Feet of the Wind

Each time this ability is chosen, it greatly and permanently increases the monk's movement rate.

Second Wind

By concentrating briefly, the monk can shrug off even the worst of wounds, once per day. The effect of this power is to fully heal the monk instantly.
Prerequisite: Flip Resistances.

Stunning Blow

The monk has one more use of the Stunning Blow ability per day.

Quivering Palm

The monk has one more use of the Quivering Palm ability per day.

Btw. Refinements offers a new Monk HLA table as well. Someone else who tried them may want to comment on how they compare.

I can remember AnonymousHero. I can see a lack of GWW being a challenge for a few encounters but isn't one of the new powers an enhanced hardiness at the expense of magical protection.

(Don't want to go too far off-topic, so this be my last post on this particular thing in this thread.)

Yeah, Flip Resistance. While it sounds great on paper, unfortunately you often want both high MR and high damage resistance -- the monk's saves aren't that great (esp. when affected by Malison), so you're really relying on high (or 100%) MR most of the time to avoid ill effects from spells. In my run I think I used Flip Resistances about two times in total.

The fact that you can't flip back at will is also a big issue. If that were possible it might increase the appeal of FR somewhat, but it's still nowhere near as good as Hardiness + sky-high MR.

(Don't get me wrong -- O-monk is quite fun to play. I just think there are some obstacles that would be almost impossible to overcome solo in a no-reload -- depending on mods and such.)

EDIT: @Alesia_BH: The refinements do sound intriguing, but unfortunately you can choose just tha Monk HLAs AFAIA, so it's all-or-nothing with that mod. I chose nothing since I typically want to play more than one character type on a particular install :).

Vaquen the level 8 solo dwarven fighter update

Vaquen has made it to the City of Baldur's Gate. There were a few upgrades here, but since at the level cap and money good, just a few things. Of note:

* Vaquen obtained the DEX tome. He no longer needs the gauntlets of dexterity. He sold them, then obtained Melium's bracers. Haste boots and acid arrows and a rock formation made Melium overmatched and he was taken down.
* The mages at the top floor of Sorcerous Sundries were taken down with a single potion of magic blocking and a few acid arrows. They don't have much HP apparently, as most of the them fell to a single arrow each.
* The dead boy was bought from the Umberlee Temple, for an important shield upgrade for Vaquen.
* Helm of Balduran was found and equipped.
* +2 ring from Razamith obtained with just two arrows of biting.
* Mountain Maulers defeated by having Gorpel HInd and his group help (though they weren't much help). two potions of magic blocking, used one at at time of course, and a single shot from Vaquen's necklace of missiles. The leader was killed first, which took a while, but once he fell, the others were much easier to hit and fell quickly to Vaquen's axe. In fact, he found a +2 axe he will use as his main weapon in most cases now, and hopefully kill Sarevok with it as well.

All right time for the big event, 5th floor of Iron Throne baddies. Pro magic scroll, haste potion, stone giant potion and potion of regeneration. Vaquen threw axes when he could, otherwise meleed with his +2 axe. He defeated all of them, and he didn't even need to use a heal potion, though he got hit a few times. Vaquen reported his findings to Duke Eltan and was sent to Candlekeep.

Of course at Candlekeep, with such low looting room, and being at the level cap, very few things done here.
* obtained ring of Koveras
* rested to obtain DUHM power
* was framed for iron throne murders
* pro magic scroll used for traps, STR 24 potion and DUHM for crypts, free action ring for web trap
* Once out of first level, defeated first doppleganger on next level then used invis potion to get out of the crypts to the surface.

At the FAI, identified, sold and obtained some pantaloons. Put items in the barrel at Beregost and ended the session here.

Vaquen the solo level 8 dwarven fighter continues his adventure...FINAL BG 1 update

Vaquen obtained a slashing belt from Kirian, using arrows of detonation.

Cytrhrandria and her goons defeated with just potion of absorption, potion of magic protection and greenstone amulet.

Slythe and Krystin defeated by -14 AC to piercing and dispel arrow on Slythe and potion of magic protection and greenstone amulet.

Only STR 24 potion, haste and DUHM used at Duchal Palace. Suprisingly, even though Vaquen was trying to make Duke Belt survive, only Lia did...got to see some new dialog for me.

Thieve's maze and Undercity bypassed with scroll of magic protection and potion of invisibility. The scroll was still active for Sarevok, buffed with a lot of stuff and pulled him with necklace of missiles charge.

While Vaquen did get some hits, the entire crew came...somebody dispelled all his potion buffs too, so Vaquen went invisible and rebuffed. Sarevok took this moment to slay Angelo for those exploding arrows...only DUHM, haste and re-engage Sarevok. This put Vaquen's STR to 21 - Vaquen took a few hits, but Sarevok was slain!

I did have a screenshot, but photobucket keeps saying "unknown error" when I try to upload, so can't link it unfortunately.

Moving on to BG 2. WILL be party, also SCS.
