Snowy has reached Bonehill and having no problems there, however on the way, he had real problems with the giant rats! Should have dealt with them using my throwing axe as he caught a disease that reduced him to half HP despite using healing potions galore!

No way of curing disease was a major problem!!

Previous visits there were easy due to a mage casting Melf's Minute Meteors.

Lack of thief and mage has meant that a lot of loot is unavailable too (including a spell book with loads of spells in it, however since Snowy is not a magic user, not a major problem).

Will have to go back to Restenford as he cannot carry any more at present. Sell some loot and buy scrolls etc. His immunity to cold(Arctic dwarf) and 95% resistance to fire(protective items) are a great boon. If I had known what some of the traps were, I would have used protective potions against electricity, but in other games the traps have been disabled. However Snowy heals so easily, that it wasn't a problem.

Edit

Actually finished Bonehill without returning to Restenford. Left behind some +1 items due to backpack and bags being too small, but only about 1000gp worth of goods. (He has 50000gp! plus items.

@ Grimwald (or anyone else) what's your opinion of the mods that add extra content - as in, new areas, new quests - to BG1? Which would you recommend?

I've been wrapping up Malin's game today. Slythe and Krystin were easily dispatched; Polymorph Self: Mustard Jelly really eliminates the risk here because both opponents wield piercing weapons plus of course there's the 100% resistance to magic. Summoned some monster help to make sure Slythe actually went down before the polymorph ran out...

Image IPB

These hobgoblin archers were pretty handy too, poisoning Krystin...

Image IPB

My cunning plan for the coronation wasn't needed in the end, I favoured the unsubtle approach and lent on the Wand of Monster Summoning once again... a scroll of Greater Malison plus Bhaalspawn Horror was also surprisingly effective given how good the Greater Doppelganger saving throws are.

Image IPB

In the end Belt didn't take a single hit and we cleaned up comfortably.

Final battle report coming tomorrow.

Unfinished Business for sure. It uses many things (dialogue, etc.) that made it to the game files but were skipped from being used when the developers were rushed by the release date.

If you like party interaction and NPC quests, NPC Project is a must. Makes the game much more like BG2 in this regard. Some of the NPC quests are very good and really add to the gaming experience, imo.

Secret of Bonehill is quite good, although as with many BG1 mods the equipment available there is really too powerful for the original game. That's even more the case with Dark Horizons, but that mod has some interesting encounters if you've not played it before. The Grey Clan is a fairly old mod, but probably fits into the original game better than the others - it offers a nice challenge at the end of the game when you're around the level cap.

After the death of my sorceror in BG2 I re-rolled her stats and tried starting her again. Since that I've died 3 times:
1) Carelessly not noticing that protection from petrification had expired fighting basilisks.
2) Experimenting with different tactics against Sarevok (would have been OK, but forgot I needed fire resistance to protect against exploding arrows).
3) Liia dispelling invisibility during palace fight, allowing the dopplegangers the chance to fight properly.

Right, enough of that. Inspired, he says, by last night's BGT no-reload success with Gate70 I'm going to have a good go at getting a sorceror a long way this time.

Thanks Serg.  Anear has made a good start.  She's up to level 6 after the following encounters:
Xzar / Montaron - blinded.
Shoal - run & shoot (R&S).
Beregost tasks + Algernon - R&S, MM.
Neira - blinded.
Vitiare and Oopah - R&S.
Hulrik's cow - xvarts activated one at a time.
Meilum - R&S.
Basilisk area - basilisks shot, Mutamin Koraxed and the party Cloaked.

She has not yet been attacked other than by basilisk gaze.  The aim is to get her through the game without ever being exposed to anything that could hurt her.

Sarevok's down and Malin has successfully no-reloaded BG1!

The final fight was a bit messy though. I knew I had a lot of resources available and so didn't think through a proper plan. As a result, Malin was in far more danger than he should have been.

Given I had no use for potions etc after this battle Malin went all-out and buffed with basically everything. Main thing was being immune to fire (Arrows of Detonation from Angelo), lightning (Lightning Bolt from Semaj) and confusion (Chaos from Semaj), and buffing hp as much as possible - Malin got to 58 with Potions of Fortitude and Power, which was pretty decent. Having duplicate potions is also good because then you can just go invisible and re-buff if Semaj's Dispel Magic works (in my game it didn't manage to remove anything).

The first mistake I made was to summon monsters at the beginning of the fight. Malin should have just taken on Tazok, Angelo and Semaj himself because he was virtually immune to everything they could do. The summoned gnolls were simply annihilated by Arrows of Detonation and Chaos. I also didn't realise Tazok would engage at the same time as the other two and he managed to give Malin a good smack. Oops.

Image IPB

It worked out ok though - Tazok and Angelo got blasted with the Wand of Frost

Image IPB

Semaj ran out of spells and didn't pose much of a threat trying to beat Malin over the head with his staff... he didn't last long after failing his save against the Paralyzation Wand.

Image IPB

Last up was the big man himself. Here summons are of course very useful. They held Sarevok up just about long enough for him to fail his save against the wand (and actually got him down to injured even before he got stunned)

Image IPB

The End

Image IPB

Overall this was a pretty fun game. Of course, renewable invisibility + potions + wands is a really powerful combination in BG1, so it was only player error that put Malin in any danger at all. BG2 will be a different story though, and I'm also planning to redo BG1 at some point with extra restrictions or the likes of SCS installed, which will make things interesting.

Anear failed in her objective not to be attacked. I wanted to get her to level 8 before doing the Nashkel mine so that she could go through the mine with guaranteed no damage (using stoneskin against traps). She was not far off that and was taking on the doomsayer after helping Charleston Nib when she strayed a bit too far north while running him round with MM and activated Bar'uk. I thought she would have time to cast invisibility before being attacked, but that wasn't the case (should have used an invisibility potion).

I'll still continue her to see if I can quickly get her through the remainder of BG1.

Anear has duly finished off Sarevok without any particular problems.

One item of interest was when she was trying to rest invisibly in the docks area.  Normally if that doesn't work for a few times I'll move and try elsewhere, but on this occasion I kept trying and succeeded on the 48th attempt - must have been pulling in guard patrols from the whole countryImage IPB.  There are only 30+ in this screenshot - the process of taking screenshots was being slowed down considerably, presumably due to all the extra sprites.

Here is Anear's final record, showing her available spells.

Grond0/Gate70 multiplayer attempt 9: Bronzer (Grond0, protaganist) and Reyna (Gate70).

After recent no-reload success at the 8th attempt with a pair of gnome fighter / illusionists we're back to the beginning again.  This time we're planning to speed things up a bit - I'm running a dwarf barbarian and Gate70's gone for a monk.

The opening session proves successful with about half the major encounters available prior to the city completed with no deaths and both of us up to 5th level.  The Nashkel mines have just been cleansed (Mulahey always struggling after Reyna stunned him from the shadows).  The only screenshot I took (I'll try to do better next time) was a slightly belated one showing the end of Bassilus.
Image IPB
I had commented just before this that Bronzer had not been much good at hitting Greywolf, but he was doing very nicely thank you against Bassilus - even before getting his hammer upgraded.

Reyna has unfortunately had a bad run with HP rolls so far, which is likely to make her a bit more vulnerable than would be desired later in the run.
Image IPB

Her bad luck has been counter-balanced by Bronzer who has regularly demonstrated the difference between the HP die used for barbarians and fighters.
Image IPB

The HP disparity has meant Bronzer has been the more aggressive of the duo so far.  Added to the fact that monks are a slow-starting class that's allowed him to take an early lead in the kill stats.
Bronzer Barbarian 5. 124 kills, Shoal.
Reyna Monk 5. 40 kills, sirene.

The link below has a summary of how our first 7 multiplayer attempts ended - prior to the successful 8th one:

It should probably be time for a break, but in a drunken stupor I decide to have one more try at a no-reload - with the obvious choice of a wild mage!  Finishing BG1 without casting a spell should be easy enough, but just getting through Irenicus' dungeon is likely to prove a formidable challenge in BG2 if he gets that far.

Thus far Schist has survived the initial stages of BG1.  He's got easy experience from Shoal and the basilisk area and is currently at level 6 having just arrived at the Friendly Arm Inn for the first time.

Identify is perfectly safe. Fill up the level 1 slots with that if you do not dare cast anything else.

Good luck!

Schist - Wild mage

Schist has just completed the bandit camp and will shortly be traversing the Cloakwood.  He/she is at level 8 (about 100k XP).  Most encounters to date have been done with just a sling, although Algernon's Cloak has been used a reasonable amount.  Other items have had occasional use, e.g. the wand of cold was used to severely damage Mulahey.

Schist has just recently acquired the ring of invisibility.  That was first used in the bandit camp to go into the main tent invisible (allowing enemies there to be charmed without activating Raemon).  It's likely to get plenty of use from this point onwards.

The confusion over Schist's gender was the result of a wild surge.  He hasn't cast any mage spells, but has used Bhaal abilities a few times and got a surge from the Larloch's drain effect.  I had noted before that Bhaal powers could trigger surges, but wasn't sure whether that was generic or the result of a specific installation.

I think there is the same base chance for wild surges when you use Bhaal powers as for when you cast (non-Dweomer) spells . I've read both 1% and 5%. I think it is 5%, based on how many times it has happened to my Ivy.

I think 5% is right. My annoyance with this is that Bhaal powers are supposed to be innate abilities from your godly heritage and should not therefore have a chance of triggering a surge.

Schist - Wild mage

Schist made it through the Cloakwood without incident, though it was slightly trickier than I expected.  In this installation invisibility from the ring was only lasting 12 hours, which meant he had to risk resting while visible sometimes, but got away with it.

Algernon's Cloak was used once more to get the boots of speed and Schist then sneaked invisibly down to Daveorn.  There he used a scroll of magic protection to protect him from traps and let the battle horrors chase him into a side room before going invisible again.  He used wands of cold and fire to finish off Daveorn quickly.

Finally in the city he went tome hunting.  First up was the tome of dexterity.  Next he started the poison quest with the intention of getting the tome of wisdom, but it proved trickier than I expected. Initially the cleric wouldn't give up the book - despite Schist's charisma of 9 and reputation of 20.  That meant he got charmed and attacked his colleague with his fists while Schist looked on invisibly (had to use a potion when ring invisibility was dispelled).  Similar tactics were used to get the geas scroll from Jalantha.  I intended Larze to deal with Marek, but he got stunned by a chromatic orb so Marek got finished off by a pair of wand scorchers - the second initially targeted on Larze after Marek went invisible (I think for the 5th time in the combat).

While thinking about tomes used invisibility to get the ones from Durlag's Tower and the pirate cave.  However, the intelligence one had to wait a bit as I didn't want to risk using a knock spell to open Ramazith's door.

After invisibly scouting the Iron Throne Schist briefly returned to Candlekeep and used a scroll of magic protection and the violet potion to get another couple of tomes from the tombs.

Back in the city I gave Larze a chance to redeem himself against Slythe.  He failed, but Slythe was nearly dead so I intended to use a scorcher on him to complete the job.  However, in moving the wand into my quick slots it had reset to fireballs and Schist's reputation went down from 20 to 3 as  result of collateral damage to innocents!  After a trip to the temple Schist went to the palace and sat that fight out invisible while the guards dealt with the dopplegangers.

Schist went through the maze invisible and under scroll of magic protection and moved on to the temple.  A fireball pulled out Sarevok on his own and he was run round while Schist used a wand of magic missiles on him.  Initially 8 lots of summoned monsters ran interference and then he settled down to running round using magic missiles from one side of the room and his sling from the other.  Sarevok eventually gave in with 38 of the original 100 charges from the wand of magic missiles remaining.

I had intended to buy the Claw of Kazgoroth before going to Amn, but clicked on the wrong conversation option with Belt so it's off to Irenicus' dungeon ready or not - Schist will need some luck there as he will have no chance of getting through without casting spells.

Grond0/Gate70 multiplayer attempt 9: Bronzer (Grond0, protaganist) and Reyna (Gate70).

The duo continued their progress around the Sword Coast last night, righting a few wrongs and reluctantly accepting rewards in the process.  The cash earned hasn't actually been relevant thus far since they haven't bought any equipment, but it's always nice to see a healthy bank balance.

During the session both got another level.  Reyna clawed back a bit of her HP deficit with 10 more, while Bronzer kept up his good average with a further 15.  With less danger from a single critical to Reyna tactics for most fights have centred around Reyna hiding near the enemy while Bronzer comes in openly to focus their attention.  The HP penalty for barbarian rage means that he normally only uses that to protect against spells and similar effects.

There have still been no deaths in the run so far.  Bronzer has never really been in danger, although he was taken rapidly down from 89 to 20 HPs as a result of ettercap poison and was glad to receive the antidote thrown to him by Reyna.

They are currently waiting to take on the party outside the Cloakwood Mine.

Bronzer Barbarian 6, 89 HPs. 187 kills (+63), Shoal.
Reyna Monk 6, 39 HPs. 58 kills (+18), sirine.

Grond0/Gate70 multiplayer attempt 9: Bronzer (Grond0, protaganist) and Reyna (Gate70).

Up to the Cloakwood the duo had a pretty serene passage, with no deaths and few alarms.  That may have bred a bit of complacency because the situation changed rather on arrival at the Cloakwood mine!  The initial fight was not too bad with Bronzer and Reyna managing to kill both mages before Bronzer's rage ran out.  However, Reyna got confused and ran away
Image IPB
Bronzer kept things moving round in circles until Reyna came back and they quickly finished off Drasus and Genthore.

The way down to Daveorn was blocked by Hareishan.  Bronzer tried to shut her up with a thrown axe while Reyna kept the guards off, but Bronzer's critical miss meant Reyna paid for her presence in the front line.
Image IPB
Bronzer was enraged at his friend's death and took it out on Hareishan before retreating round corners in order to fight only 1 guard at a time.  With the coast clear he dumped equipment into a kitchen cupboard and went to patronize the temple.

With Reyna back to form they made their way down to Daveorn's quarters.  The first order of business there was to deal with the battle horrors.  The intention was to drag them back one at a time and quickly melee them.  I thought Bronzer should be good at that with his raged THAC0 of 5 with main hand and 8 with off and indeed, the first horror did go down quickly.  However, the second did not!  It initially accounted for Reyna with a long-distance (lag) hit and then lingered at near death while hitting Bronzer repeatedly while he worked through all his healing abilities.  Bronzer was almost dead and actually running away when his own belated lag hit finally finished the horror off.
Image IPB

After another return trip to the temple Bronzer and Reyna moved back to confront Daveorn.  He was an anti-climax, however, as his spells appeared to have not reset after the rests following him sighting them earlier and he chose to try and melee.

The session had a twist in the tale as Reyna was poisoned by a spider during an ambush on the way out of the Cloakwood.  Bronzer had used a couple of purple potions fighting the battle horror and neither had antidotes.  Unfortunately, the spider poison dealt damage quicker than normal healing potions could replace it and Reyna collapsed to the floor for the 3rd time in the session (just writing this up I've realised that Bronzer actually had a Bhaal cure poison ability available, but failed to think of it at the right timeImage IPB).

Luckily we're now in the city with easy access to temples!

Bronzer Barbarian 6, 89 HPs. 229 kills (+42), Daveorn.
Reyna Monk 6, 39 HPs. 74 kills (+16), sirine.

Grond0/Gate70 multiplayer attempt 9: Bronzer (Grond0, protaganist) and Reyna (Gate70).

After the struggles of yesterday this session was much more straightforward.  The first order of business was to complete the roster of equipment.  There was a bit of shopping at Ulgoth's Beard and then a diversion to  Durlag's Tower.  A violent episode of vomiting there reminded Bronzer to complete the poison quest.  Larze attempted to block the path, but a stunning blow from Reyna meant the ogre spent most of the combat standing still.
Image IPB
Upstairs the combat with Marek was swiftly done - his immediate buff was interrupted and he didn't last long enough to start another one.
Image IPB
Ramazith also failed to complete any spells, before Reyna sneaked up his tower to get the tome there.  The ogre power gauntlets were also quickly obtained.  Reyna spent a bit of time using the green amulet and by the time she got her stunning blow ready both opponents were dead.
Image IPB

Some more stealth from Reyna saw her bypass the party at the Iron Throne and start an expenses-paid trip to Candlekeep.  Reyna did the initial work in the catacombs using a scroll of magic protection and giant strength to loot the tombs.  The dopplegangers put up a reasonable fight and made the duo rest before taking on Prat's party.  They went down quickly as well to provide Bronzer with a nice throwing axe.
Image IPB
Bronzer suggested they should leave invisibly, but Reyna said she'd packed plenty of potions so the basilisks were taken out as well to leave the exit clear.  As Bronzer has DUHM and rage to allow strength increases Reyna took the strength tome (to add to the charisma one used earlier), while Bronzer hogged the rest.

Back in the city I decided it was time for a glitch and walked Bronzer straight into some guards.  I was careful to select the right conversation option to just get thrown into jail rather than have one of the party killed first and Neb was soon persuaded to let them out again.  On to find Slythe, who got several blows in on Bronzer without causing real concerns.  Kristin was then persuaded to cloudkill Quenash to leave her cloak available before being despatched.
Image IPB

For the potentially dangerous fight at the palace the duo fully buffed - Bronzer taking potions of speed, giant strength and power as well as DUHM and rage.  Bronzer tried to keep the dopplegangers focused on him and, though Belt was attacked quite a bit as well, both dukes survived.
Image IPB

After making their way through the maze and avoiding the Undercity party, it was time for the showdown with Sarevok.  Bronzer attracted his attention with a potion of explosion (while the others remained at the far end of the temple) and subsequently used his first arrow of the game to dispel his haste.
Image IPB
Then the hokey cokey started with Bronzer doing a lot of running in and out around Sarevok (when failing to target him properly with his throwing axe).  Enough hits were landing to wear Sarevok down reasonably quickly, but there was always the concern he might get a one-shot critical on Reyna.  A battle horror joined the fray late on, but was unable to affect the result as Sarevok decided he'd had enough.
Image IPB

After returning through the maze and picking up the golden pantaloons the duo are back at the palace ready for Duke Belt to send them on to Athkatla.

Bronzer Barbarian 8, 109 HPs. 271 kills (+42), Daveorn.
Reyna Monk 8, 55 HPs. 99 kills (+25), Jalantha Mistmyr.

Freakishly bad luck on the HP rolls for the monk, eh?

And WOW, that lag thing in the mines. I can only imagine the horror.
