Decided to break up my monk runs a bit with the aim of heading into the SCS Ascension thread but starting in no-reloadville.

Vhorl is a Cavalier, pictured in Candlekeep after treating himself to splint mail, 2HS and a tin hat.
Posted Image

The usual Candlekeep, Marl, Firebead, Brage, Noober, Oublek path led to Caldo/Krumm, Unshey's ogre and Arghain (2HS +1). From memory potions of freedom and clarity dealt with Bassilus and a second freedom was used against Mulahey.
Posted Image

Greywolf was fairly easy, Meilum somewhat tougher. The bandit camp required 2-3 rests. Taugosz Khosann was out-fought using Varscona, girdle of bluntness & shield. An oil of speed was too much for Venkt leaving Raemon, Britik and Hakt with no chance of success. Poison immunity was used to retrieve Spiders Bane and kill four wyverns in two ambush situations. Another amulet charge and oil of speed dealt with Rezdan and Kysus, allowing Genthore to be killed while Drasus tried to beat a potion of absorbtion and girdle of bluntness (modifier of -10 to his attacks). A few more potions saw Hareishan and her guards culled, then two battle horrors and finally Davaeorn.

The Iron Throne HQ got the amulet/potion/Spiders Bane treatment and the potions carried into Candlekeep where two tomes were retrieved. The potions remained active long enough to deal with Prat and his gang then two quick rests provided a pair of DUHM special abilities. The remaining tomes were collected at this stage, as was a golden girdle.

No buffs were needed against Slythe and a full set of potions (including Power) were used against the doppelgangers to have an armour class of -10 plus the modifiers. Expected to drop into minimal reload here but most focused on Vhorl and the others were either chunked or scared off. Both dukes survived but Sarevok landed a couple of hits before departing.

The Thieves Maze was done with buffs still active and Rahvin's mercenaries got more of the same (although Vhorl was badly wounded and used a lay-on-hands). The temple of Bhaal was next so a rest, potion of genius then scroll of protection from magic was the plan. Sarevok called his pals out so it was four against one. Vhorl started glugging potions once Angelo and Semaj had used their de-buffs. A sequence of run, hit a target, run, buff was used.

Angelo was first, having injured Vhorl. Once he was chunked Semaj got more of the same. Tazok also chunked nicely then Sarevok got combinations of melee sword/shield followed by a returning throwing axe while glugging healing potions. A late burst of melee saw Sarevok take several hits but Vhorl was down to 15hp so retreated to glug an invisibility potion and add DUHM (slow casting which Sarevok would interrupt if not hidden). The next melee was more of the same so another invisible DUHM was applied.
Posted Image

I'd estimate that was 6-8 hours effort using an approach that works well for me with Cavaliers and not levelling up beyond 150k. Stats after re-equipping in the SoA cells.

Snowy the berserker's run has come to an end not because he was defeated, but because I found it uninteresting, partly because it was just hack and slash, and partly because he was too powerful. I have therefore restored the experience cap and started a fighter/mage.

https://picasaweb.go...feat=directlink

She used Lord Foreshadow's ring to charm a caravan guard at the Friendly Arms Inn. he took on Tarnish who cast sleep and then killed him. Slept and charmed another guard who held Tarnesh with her arrows. End of Tarnesh! Picked up the dead guards armour. Mithril chain +4!!! She can now both cast and have good armour. Upon fighting Tristan and Isolde, used some of the remaining arrows to hold them before they held Luciatta. Their small swords, one that holds and one which can be thrown will be invaluable.

They certainly were invaluable. Luciatta was able to clear the ankheg and deal with Sonner with no problems.

In Beregost, the spiders were cleared and Silke was killed with the help of Algernon's Cloak and Lord Foreshadow's ring. Some Morninglord guards were charmed with them.

I am limiting the cloak to one use between sleeps as it would otherwise be way overpowered.

She was able to help Melicamp, get Gurke's cloak and Perdue's lost sword without problems.

Eileth, elven Beast Master, adventuring with Imoen and Viconia

The Dynaheir-and-Edwin business, plus spider woes
So, the plan was to rescue Dynaheir on our own, let Edwin join and then say goodbye to Dynaheir. Not planning to ever talk to Minsc unless I really need him later.

My trio did the two quests by Dryad Falls. When I went looking for the western exit (and Ingot the gnoll), I was uncharacteristically sloppy with my scouting. Viconia was ambushed by winter wolves. We are still a low-level party and Viconia has few hit points and not that great AC yet (for example, she isn't strong enough for plate mail). I very much couldn´t afford to give the wolves free shots like that. Death was quick.

Eileth was in a bit of shock (first death in party) but quickly regained her focus and managed to improve the fighting odds. Still not an easy fight. She is a staff specialist but her STR is just average (no melee bonus). Winning the battle was rewarding. We activated the passage to the Stronghold but went back to Nashkel to have Viconia raised. She proved her worth in more ways than one in the upcoming fights.

Met Drizzt, fought Bjornin's half-ogres, wandered some maps looking for the second meeting with Drizzt. Another interesting pair of wolves (that apparently have built-in gas masks). Before I thought "let's try anyway", it dawned on me that we had nothing we could damage them with other than a couple of low-level Magic Missiles. They were "allowed" to live, for now.
whistling.png

The plan seems to work, as Edwin joined and Dynaheir was left in peace. Edwin is of course a scumbag (in a sophisticated and intelligent way, but he's still a scumbag) which means I have no problem with him not being particularly enthusiastic about some of things we do.

In the description for Dynaheir´s journal, I read that Thayvyan agents would pay well for the information in it. Hmm.
I went to Spider Wood and talked to Denak of the Red Wizards. To my disappointment, they only talked with Edwin a little. And to add insult to injury, they just left, so now I can't have a cool fight with them this game. :(

"Well, now that I am here, I may as well clear out the area.", I thought. Yeah, right.
That was at least one step above our capabilities. It didn't get better that I stupidly pressed on while fatigued. Ettercaps weren't so bad (they are Eileth's racial enemy, so her arrows pack a mean punch) but all those spiders, oh my! Edwin's Strength spells has made it possible for me to have Viconia equip Bjornin's reward shield (it stays on even after the effect times out) but I have skipped doing the same for plate mail. The total weight of her items when she wears plate mail is too high so she can't even move when the Strength times out.

Viconia in deep trouble here.
(what a fitting plea for help she cried out, don't you think!)

She actually survived for a while longer. Poison was cured with an antidote the round after and I actually began to think we had a chance to win without casualties. Then BAM! Instadeath from high HP. Oh yeah, the wraith spiders drain STR, and now she had been drained to numbers too low to exist with. Ouch.

The rest of the spider fight was scary, and we used up pretty much every bit of ammunition and other ranged options we had. Taking on the big spider pack was a clear case of overestimation of our fighting abilities.
Now that Viconia has died twice, she´s down in the penalty-to-HP part of Constitution numbers. And she's supposed to be my tank! Oh well, there are Fortitude potions for big fights.

She can still tank the lowly critter hordes. This is a tried and true method often used in Nethack: keep something wimpy between you and the big hitter.
Later on this map, I decided to test the usefulness of Magic Protection potions for Viconia. I had her summon skeletons and pick a fight with Borda, the travelling scrolls salesman. That went really well. These potions are generally not that good (too random to rely on against lethally dangerous spells) but they are perfect for Viccy.
She is still a crappy warrior (1 attack per round no matter if it's melee or ranged) so I had to get the skeletons to completely mob Borda or he would just keep running around and barely get hit.

I recruited Kagain, did his caravan quest and then used him to fight (and hence recruit) Shar-Teel. Dumped him afterwards. One of these campaigns, I just have to use him more. He deserves a chance.

A first visit to Durlag's Tower and a great surprise fight
Everything went pretty much according to plan (well, except for a slight ghast mishap). Daital and the succubus-fooled thief were left until later.

Imoen de-trapped nearly all of the second floor under invisibility before starting to work on a long and tedious backstabing spree against the skeleton warriors and the mustard jellies. At one time, she had to flee through an area I thought I had de-trapped. Oops. No problem this time, because she had already shaken off the pursuers, plus she managed to hide in shadows before the web hit.

No improved doppelgangers installed this run, so Shar-Teel could easily kill them with her crossbow with the help of invisble blocker strategy (Edwin has enough level 2 slots to hide the whole party if I go all out Invisibility). As expected, some decent loot found on this floor but not a single 4th- or 5th-level mage scroll. Even though it was a bummer for Eileth's party this time, I LOVE Item Randomizer! Keeps the game fresh, I think.

On my way out from Durlag's, it was when the real craziness started. Imoen was still under Master Thievery effect (she needed potion help to open some containers) so I decided to let her have a go at pickpocketing the guy on the first basement floor, Bayard. I think she had 70% or so. Failed...and buffs go off all over the place! Whoa, Bayard is a bard (or maybe a multiclassed mage?) and looking at some of those buffs, not a wimpy one either!

We went up to the ground floor. Viconia animated dead and we hid around a corner. Bayard cast Ligthning Bolt at the skellies (it bounced close to us but didn´t hit). Bayard found us and I decided to get outside. It´s a loss that we no longer have the help from the skeletons but I thought the need for more space to move was more important.

Bayard dumped a Monster Summoning III on us (an ogre and three half-ogres) and the fight was on. Bayard resisted a Horror with Magic Resistance (oh crap, he has MR too!). But we also have MR characters.
Edwin ate a Magic Missile and had to flee and drink potions. He and Viconia focused on the summons while the rest of us tried to make progress against Bayard. Well, Eileth wasn't much help after this.
Everyone but Eileth took damage from the lower-level spells (and his big arsenal of MMMs) and had to use potions. Eventually, we gained the upper hand.

What a cool fight! The XP reward wasn´t much (but decent if you include the summoned monsters that were actually worth more together than Bayard...)

We have hunted Ankhegs (and had Taerom make an armor that will be ready in 4 days from now), killed zombies, shopped some cool 4th-level spells for Edwin in Ulgoth´s Beard (Emotion, Greater Malison and Improved Invisibility), cleared out Nashkel Mines except the last floor, cleared out several of the easier maps and generally beefed up for tougher things to come. Shar-Teel has dualled to Thief so she can replace Imoen when Imoen duals away from thief soon.

I have to say that is a relief to play a main character that can actually take quite a beating before it gets dangerous.

Eileth, level 6 Beast Master, 58+6 HP
Viconia, level 7 Cleric, 33 HP (2 deaths, CON=6)
Imoen, level 8 Thief, 47 HP
Shar-Teel, level 7 Fighter -> level 3 Thief, 52 HP
Edwin, level 7 Conjurer, 35 HP

The transcredible exploits of Khemael the Fighter-Mage continues (from a misplaced BG2 post http://social.biowar...dex/3120942/217 )

Khemael the Cautious, my friends are beginning to call me. Instead of investigating Nashkel mines, we have explored most of the Sword Coast except for some rare & dangerous ruins in the East. Along with faitful companion, the fledgling sorceror Imoen, and comrades-in-arms Minsc (berserker), Jaheria, Viconia, Dynaheir (thief/mage), we have gained experience enough now to cast several second tier spells. I hear rumors of a Basilisk infestation in the east, which I will next go and investigate. Nashkel can wait.

(mods: tutu, fixpack, tweaks, SCS I + II)

My aim is to finish the whole trilogy with this team - a feat I never achieved before (not even SoA).

Except for TOSC areas with SCS mods, I expect little challenge from BG1 portion of no-reload. But I have been wrong before...

let's see:
- Durlag tower succubus - mass confusion -> death
- Mutamin dispels "Prot. Petrification" right in front of Basilisk -> death
- Two criticals from Ogre Berserkers in one round -> death
...

I'm optimistic about this particular run.

Luciatta had to rest while I visited Icewind Dale, the deepest valley in the world (3 miles deep) - between Dhaulagari and Annapurna. Didn't get up to the snowline, but reaching the frost line at this time of year is something!

Anyway, to get back on topic, Luciatta completed the Nashkel mines and the Secret of Bonehill part 1 without problems. Sadly uninstalling the experience cap removal has left it removed. :( I have therefore just not levelled up and will reduce the experience to 161000 using Shadowkeeper every time a new companion joins. Technically I think that this is against the rules, but I think that it is within the spirit of the rules. She has improved her constitution and intelligence whilst there. Only her lack of wisdom at ten is a cause for concern.

Eileth, elven Beast Master, adventuring with Imoen, Viconia, Shar-Teel and Edwin

My party has slowly built up levels and wealth. The two seashore maps have been cleared out. A buffed (Chant + Strength of One) skeleton pack assisted by a Stinking Cloud was nearly enough to defeat each of the three Siren trios. After looting Black Alaric's cave, the six pirates from Lure of the Sirine´s Call met us outside the cave. They did not like that we "broke our deal", as they said.
"Hey, I was on my way to your house to divide the booty, you silly pirates!"
Oh well, we tought them a lesson in humility...

Poor Kivan was again used as kissing toy for Shoal. It was in vain this time, because we happened to kill her too fast - so we never even met ogre mage Droth.

Sometimes I am such a cheesy meta/powergamer. This is one of my worst offenses when it comes to that.
(I´m sure most of you can figure out what happened)

Basilisk area was up next. I had some gnoll issues when I tried to sleep to adapt spell selection for the Kirian battle. After Eileth (protected by long-term scroll) and Korax killed the first basilisk, I had Edwin make Korax invisible so he could surprise-attack Mutamin. Game over for psycho gnome.

Korax was still on my side after all basilisks were dead, so I used him against the Kirian party as well. He got Turned (along with our skellies).

We finshed up Nashkel Mines, killed Nimbul and Tranzig, sold lots of gunk to Officer Vai, brought Rep. to 18 at Beregost temple and shopped Shadow Armor for Shar-Teel. After we had rested at Feldepost's, Molkar's party showed up in the streets of Beregost. We defeated them soundly. The Hasted gnome mage (Halacan) made the mistake of trying to attack Edwin in melee. Edwin was standing right by the entrance to Feldepost's, impossible to get to in melee because the rest of my party members were in the way! Hence, Halacan wasted a couple of valuble rounds.

Lamalha's cleric + thief party had better success at being a PitA: Edwin and Shar-Teel were both backstabbed and Eileth had to suffer two Unholy Blights. Both times, I hit them while they were chanting the spell (both with arrows and spells (MM, Larloch's MD)) but that still didn't cause spell failure. I still have not fully understood when a spell fails and when it still can be cast despite getting hit. At least I was smart enough to keep Imoen and Eileth separated so they wouldn´t both get Unholy Blighted by the same spell.

The damage to Edwin, Shar-Teel and Eileth wasn't life-threatening thanks to extra healing potions (it's in fights like this they should be used!). After Telka backstabbed Edwin, Eileth had a private brawl with her and killed her. Edwin had a perfect spell result and the rest of the fight was just about saving Imoen from being surrounded by two batches of skeletons. Not a big problem. She hadn't dualled to Mage yet, so her AC was decent.

We interogated Deke (first time I've seen him, don´t think I have visited this map in Ch3 before), cleared out Larswood (including Teven), cleared out Peldvale except for Raiken that took us to the Camp. Tazok was killed at range. We buffed like crazy outside the main tent (strange that Credus and Taugosz didn't get suspicious...) and entered. The improved SCS battle adds a trio of BTEs (level 5, so immune to Sleep) and two hobgoblin elites.

This was a tough battle. Our initial spells (Imoen: Horror, Viconia: Hold Person and Edwin: Emotion) took out some enemies but Shar-Teel failed her backstab attempt on Hakt and had a rough time in melee against him. The archers loved to fire at Edwin. That got so bad that he had to go invisble and chug 4 healing potions in the middle of the fight. Venkt was never a problem because he failed his save against Horror. Eventually we outnumbered the fighting-able enemies and could win without casualties.

After looting and resting in the tent, we ran away from Taugosz and gang (Edwin got hit at least twice despite being Shielded). I had "adjusted" our Reputation earlier by killing Galileus. It was 9 now, so I rested in Beregost and Eileth gained a Horror special ability. I think the Bhaal powers are weird for Rangers. IMO, the 'evil' ones are much more useful. Larloch´s and Horror are so much better than CLW and Slow Poison for making a well-rounded character. A level 10 Ranger can cast those two 'good' abilities as spells if they want them. DUHM is indeed useful, though (just one, I want a Vampiric Touch as well).

We re-entered the Bandit Camp from the south. Managed to lure Taugosz and just a small pack of bandits to us at first. Taugosz got Held and slaughtered. The main battle occured near the ruins in the central part of the map. Eileth tested her new ability. Having scared enemies running all over the place can get messy when they calm down, but it was´t so bad this time. Viconia tanked almost the whole Chill pack by herself.

I picked up Jaheira to do her quest in Cloakwood. That´s one of my favourite quests from the NPC Project - really well done. A nice chunk of XP to be had from it as well and some cool weapons.

The initial Cloakwood 2 battle was so much better handled by this party than by Ivy's party. To be fair to Ivy, Eileth´s party is a couple of levels higher, plus I now knew that the ettercaps would join the fight. That party didn't have skeleton help either.

Centeol battle was handled perfectly. Emotion and Horror took out most the enemies and the rest all attacked the heavily-armored Viconia. Centeol used a charge on a Wand of Frost. I found that wand on her corpse (must have missed it with Ivy's party - Centeol's bulky corpse obscures the view). 16 charges left, sweet!

We cleared out Cloakwood 3-4, activated the Mines map but went back to civilization because I needed to sell loot and restock arrows (Eileth goes through arrows like popcorn and Shar-Teel uses many as well). I kept the +1 Club 'Root of the Problem' for Eileth. She is not proficient with clubs but this is the only magical melee weapon she can use that we have seen this far.
BTW, what types of creatures count as 'unnatural'? (Root of the Problem is +3 against them.)

Viconia levelled up in Cloakwood but her HP roll was really poor.

What to do next? Firewine dungeon? Cloakwood Mines? Four warders battle? Silke -> Ulcaster?

The answer: Ice Island
After the first wolf was killed, Edwin cast Invisibility on everyone except Eileth. She used a Protection from Magic scroll and entered the three mages room. Despite an AC vs. missiles at -6, MMMs hit quite often, forcing Eileth to drink two large healers and one small. Took a while to chew through Stoneskins and Mirror Images. Beyn and Marcellus dead but no sign of Andris.

While Eileth was fighting, the invisible Shar-Teel had de-trapped most of the place. However, the first trap after the corner leading to Tellan was too hard for her. I know that is a Fireball trap (after an accident that killed Imoen in another run) so I just had Eileth trigger it. She threw a poisoned dart at Tellan from the shadows, which shortened that fight quite a bit.

Eilieth was still magic-protected so she ran back to Cuchol. Shot down a winter wolf first and before she fought Cuchol, the scroll effect expired. She pulled back. I had Viconia Animate Dead in the large base camp room. Sent in a skeleton to Cuchol. Skull Trap. Next skeleton: Skull Trapped as well. Third and fourth skeleton in there - no battle sounds. Eileth scouted. No sign of Cuchol. She found Garan and hit him with a stealthed poison dart. Garan saved and threw a Chaos at Eileth. She pulled back, and the spell hit her. Ankhegs followed and as you can see, killed a skeleton. What was good here was that Eileth just tried running north during the whole Chaos, plus the ankhegs couldn't see any enemies but still blocked the passage for Garan. Nice luck there, and a tactic highly recommended for future playthroughs.

Viconia had of course broken her invisibility with the skeleton summoning. I pulled her to Eileth and they took out all four ankhegs, one at a time. We found Garan a bit further ahead. Viconia drank a Fortitude potion and entered a magic battle with Garan, which she clearly won. Eileth scouted further ahead and found Cuchol by the wolf close to the large room. She charmed the mountain bear but it had no chance against Cuchol and the wolf. Eileth shot it down to bag the XP when it was at Near Death and had made zero progress. Cuchol was defeated much like Garan, with a succesful Hold Person from Viconia.

We found Andris by the exit of this level. I sent in a remaining skeleton which triggered his buffs, made him summon a spider and kill the skeleton with a Lightning Bolt than angered a winter wolf. Andris actually didn't kill the wolf. He began walking the long narrow passage towards the big room. Wolf followed a bit but lost him. Eileth (in shadows) tracked Andris. Edwin entered the passage from the other direction and timed a Greater Malison perfectly. It hit Andris without Edwin getting seen.

I realized now that Andris would be able to enter the big room and see Edwin and Viconia. His Minor Globe and Improved Inviso had expired, though, so we kept trying to hit him with disabling spells and managed to disrupt much of what he tried to cast (Eileth's Arrows of Ice had the most success here). He saved against three Emotions, got hit by Silence but cast Vocalize right away, saved against Eileth's and Edwin's Horrors but not against Imoen's. Then it was just concentrated ranged attacks and down he went.

We polished off the remaining wolves and rested near the exit to level 2. With a full spell arsenal and with just one dangerous foe, Dezkiel was in trouble. Edwin was the main executioner. Some of those skeletons have been Turned by Viconia and sent back into the battle. Our skeletons were much better fighters anayway (they had spell boosts).

Edwin had levelled up on the island. It´s always cool to reach a new level of spells with him, since he gets three slots right away. So now he had three 5th-level spell slots but we hadn't seen a single 5th-level arcane scroll in the game. Safana remedied that. Gotta love her comment here! Perfect timing.
She picked Shandalar clean and finally cashed in the small XP reward for finishing his quest. Several good scrolls for both Imoen and Edwin. One 5th-level: Feeblemind. Great single-target disabling spell that has a good chance to work even without Malison/Doom help because of the save penalty. Drawback is that the target must be visible.

Shar-Teel also levelled up on the island, to Thief level 8. That meant she got her fighter abilities back. She can now wear a helmet again, is a Grand Master with Crossbows and Specialized with Scimitars. Crazy improvement for her ranged attack. From 2 apr with so-so THAC0 using a Short Bow to 4 attacks per round at THAC0 7!
(Yeah, we bought her the Light Crossbow of Speed at Feldepost's)

Eileth, level 7 Beast Master, 70+6 HP
Imoen, level 9 Thief -> level 5 Mage, 51 HP
Viconia, level 8 Cleric, 33 HP (2 deaths, CON=6)
Shar-Teel, level 7 Fighter -> level 8 Thief, 53 HP
Edwin, level 9 Conjurer, 46 HP

Luciatta raced through Candlekeep, she has avoided minor quests as she has reached the experience cap and has all the equipment that she can use. The only things that she has any real use for now is tomes. She was whisked off again to Restenford. and has now arrived at Garrotten.

I just wish that I could remember if there are any tomes there.

Also if there are any tomes doing the Stone of Askvar quest.

There is a tome of intelligence doing the Greyclan episode, that much I remember.

Luciatta defeated Sarevok with few problems. Indeed, the last part of the run was almost too easy. I think that I will have to give hard times a try and uninstall the mods that were hard the first time through, but which provide overpowering weapons. "Dark Horizons" and the like.

Before doing that however, I will do some runs with kits that I have had problems with such as Holy Avenger and Undead Hunter.

The Holy Avenger mod seems to have a bug. One of his spells keeps disappearing. Is it my set-up or is it like that for everyone?

My very first no-reload attempt was with an Undead Hunter. He made it well into SoA. Immunity to Hold was really nice in BG1.

Eileth, elven Beast Master, adventuring with Imoen, Viconia, Shar-Teel and Edwin

It was time to mop up various wilderness areas. Firewine Ruins was first up, and my 'pickpocket characters as they are leaving' tactics really paid off in the from of a Protection from Magic scroll from Bentan (preacher of Ilmater)! I had forgotten he had one. That makes it four such scrolls in the game, if I´m not mistaken: Bentan, Hafiz, Thalantyr and Halbazzer. Are there any more of them?

I decided to hold on to the PfM scroll against Kahrk and use it against Lendarn in the dungeon instead. I used skeletons to draw most of the nasty stuff from Kahrk. Viconia was there as well. When he threw a Chaos at her, she drank a Magic Blocking potion. I forgot that the effect of this potion is really short, and Viconia paid the price for that later. Clumsy of me (and some bad luck that she failed both the MR check and the save).

We used various forms of invisibility (spells, potions) and stealth to avoid Kahrk until he eventually was standing still. Edwin had already used his memorized Malison eariler and it had timed out. He tried with off-screen Emotion twice and a Horror. Kahrk made all saves. Edwin tossed a Stinking Cloud and when Kahrk dozed off, Edwin dared to go into view and give him this. Sweet.

We went to Gullykin to resurrect Viconia. She was now down to CON 5 and no longer fit to wear Claw of Kazgaroth (that would have taken her HP down to a really crappy 25...) Shar-Teel is the new Claw user. We took on Firewine dungeon from the wine cellar. Eveything went well. Shar-Teel used the PfM scroll and killed Lendarn with ease. The ogre mage left a nice gift: Gauntlets of Ogre Power, a fantastic item for Viconia. She now uses Full Plate + Ring of Protection +2 (don´t remember where I found it). Eileth took over the Ankheg Plate Mail +2. She is not the main scout anymore so better armor makes sense. She can now hold her own in melee against everything not overly powerful.

Killed Silke, defeated Myr'Cutio and Icharyd, cleared out most of Ulcaster dungeon. Since my tactics last time went so well, I lured Wolf of Ulcaster to a particular side corridor where Shar-Teel backstabbed it repeatedly. Of course, the wolf´s Call from the Grave is aimed at the bulk of the party. This may look scary but it wasn´t too bad. Viconia took one ghoul in melee. Imoen ran south with two ghouls on her tail and Eileth meleed the fourth. Edwin ran north and helped Eileth to quickly dispatch the ghoul she meleed (Magic Missile). With Eileth free from ghouls, she and Edwin could quickly take down the two chasing Imoen. By now, Viconia had killed her ghoul and could add some bullet fire.

Greater Skeletal Mage was teased with a skeleton at a time. Shar-Teel scouted and kept track of him. When she later began fighting, she suffered two Melf's Acid Arrows but potion chugging fixed that.

Xan´s quest didn´t go so well. The six archer mercenaries mostly attacked Edwin. I thought his Stoneskins would allow him to cast Emotion but I forgot about the acid damage (all archers have acid arrows). Stoneskins soon depleted and down he went quickly. Ouch. Our mass disabling was a fraction too late. Skodd and Gael were sneaky. While scared, they lucked out at doing a circling maneuver and happened to be within sight of Xan when the Horror effect expired. Xan got Mirror Image up but that didn´t stop them from scoring a Stun with darts. Imoen Spooked one of them while Eileth and Shar-Teel quickly shot down the other. I thought I had saved Xan but a dart was still in the air at this point and he got killed (he had only 15 HP). Major bummer in this fight was the first death of Edwin. He isn't quite as intimidating with 9 fewer HP. The good thing was a large pile of Acid Arrows and nifty darts for Eileth.

Cloakwood Mines was the next logical step. Drasus party was fought with lots of summons, Stinking Cloud and some disabling spells. At this point, Drasus has been killed (he was lured to us at an early stage), Rezhdan is unconscious and Kysus is out of major spells (and nearly out of Stoneskins).

Second level was taken on with a double Web at the start. That was too effective. Most enemies didn't make it far enough to get into view. We couldn´t advance either, lest we would get webbed. The angle wasn´t good enough for tossing Skull Traps either. Shar-Teel equipped Spider´s Bane, peeked around the corner and tossed two of those exploding potions (wish I had more of them!) at the large bunch of enemies. Slightly messy fight followed with lots of going up and down the stairs. Hareishan the mage could follow us between floors but her spells couldn't. :D

Third floor was a cakewalk. When the two mages were left (Natasha and ogre), Viconia took them on with the help of a Magic Protection potion.

For the Davaeorn fight, Shar-Teel buffed with Oil of Speed and Cloud Giant Strength potion. The rest of my party hid in the top-left corner, all four made invisble by Edwin. After tossing some useless spells (since nobody was there at the time), the evil mage DDed to the party and revelaed them with a spell. Three inviso potions and a spell hid everyone again. Edwin was stuck in the corner and suffered this. Jeez, am I glad he made the save!

Shar-Teel began operation backstabbing on the Battle Horrors. She was always ready with Clarity or Magic Blocking potion if Davaeorn would try something nasty. Usually, he didn´t react before Shar-Teel had run around a corner and re-stealthed. The chase went of for a while (one Horror down) when Daveorn suddenly took a blind shot with another Sunfire. Viconia (still invisible) happened to stand close by. I know Sunfire ignores MR - I should have fire-protected her beforehand...
In my defense, I didn´t really know Davaeorns spell repertoire. Last time, he failed his save against Hold Monster so he never managed to cast any offensive spells that time (just an initial Remove Magic).

The rest of us (still invisible) tracked Davaeorn's movements. Not easy to hit him with spells if you do not want to reveal yourself. He stumbled into the Mustard Jelly room and Edwin took the opportunity to throw a trap. It was inevitable that Davaeorn would make his way to it. I got tired of hiding (and had little off-screen ammo left). The Battle Horror was still scared from a Horror earlier (Huh? I thought they were constructs - without any feelings whatsoever...). Elieth began firing Ice arrows at Davaeorn, Imoen used a Frost wand charge, Edwin used damage spells, etc.
Davaeorn managed one last spell (Flame Arrow at Imoen) and then he was done for. He still had Stoneskin up at this point.
(and CRAP, once again I missed out on Battle Horror XP. At least it was only one of them this time.)

Good old Yeslick helped with carrying loot to the civilization, and Viconia's CON loss didn't impact her HPs (she went from 5 to 4) so all in all, a pretty good outcome from Cloakwood Mines.

Davaeorn had the Manual of Quickness of Action. After careful consideration, I gave it to Imoen.
* Shar-Teel would have benefitted greatly from it, but she is not in BG2
* Viconia would have gained little (no AC improvement)
* Edwin shouldn't use his AC or fight much anyway
* Eileth would have only gained a point of AC (and her aim is not to get attacked) and a little better stealth (which is eventually going to be great anyway). Archery THAC0 would not have improved.
* Imoen gets better at throwing her Boomerang Dagger (and later using her bow) and it helps all her thieving skills. Imoen has yet to die this run (she still has CON 16), so I aim for a really strong version of her to bring into BG2.

I went to the big city and this time, I mapped out everything and scavenged all outdoor containers (except for Marek's half sector) before doing anything else. I started with two quests I screwed up last time. Did Scar´s two parts regarding Seven Suns and then the ogre mage in the sewers. Made sure to talk to him this time, then brought signet ring and the noblewoman's body to Scar. Nice reward.

Then I went back to Ulgoth's Beard and took Safana into the party. Mega surprise when looking into her inventory. She had a fire resist ring (unindentified) and a Remove Curse scroll (arcane version)! I am positive, 100% sure, that she only had her studded leather, dagger and throwing daggers when I left her off earlier. Probably some sort of bug, but I chose to see it as she had been 'working' a bit on her own. Especially the ring was a nice bonus.

Safana was used to filch Arkion's and Nemphre's jewelry so I could give them to Ordulinian. He gave me 3500 exp and a Cloak of Non-Detection. That means there are three such cloaks in the game (with NPC Project, you can have Eldoth give Skie one). After that, I could still do Arkion's 'body from sewers' quest but it seems like I can't do their quests with the jewelry. I think both items have disappeared from Ordulinian's inventory anyway, or at least become non-pickable. Not going to try to steal them (for a very long time, at least) since Halbazzer stands next to him...

Strange incident at Elfsong. Shar-Teel picked most chests in there (missed 2 for now). I brought my party outside and left Viconia. She cast Sanctuary and began looting. Flaming Fist showed up and talked to her. How can they do that? They could still not attack her. Bad thing was that proprietress Alyth turned hostile. This is my favourite inn and now I can´t use it anymore. :(
Alyth and a guard followed downstairs but at least it looks like quest givers Brevlik, Uguth and Shilo Chen still have blue circle.

And finally, a banter I wanted to share. As usual, Edwin was hitting on a woman in a way I am sure he thought was clever (it's usually laughable). Safana in this case. Edwin said that his hands were good not just at wielding magic, they were good for 'other things' as well. Here are the following lines.
'Burning Hands of Lust', LOL.

Eileth, level 8 Beast Master, 76+6 HP
Imoen, level 9 Thief -> level 7 Mage, 51 HP
Viconia, level 8 Cleric, 33 HP (4 deaths, CON=4)
Shar-Teel, level 7 Fighter -> level 9 Thief, 57 HP
Edwin, level 9 Conjurer, 37 HP (1 death, CON=15)

I think I do have a good memeory for details, but other than that, I try to
- write regularly so I do not need to cover too much each time
- write no longer than a day after the last playing session
Screenies help the memory a lot. I sometimes have additional screenies that I deem too boring to show but that help me remember.

Before doing that however, I will do some runs with kits that I have had problems with such as Holy Avenger and Undead Hunter.

My very first no-reload attempt was with an Undead Hunter. He made it well into SoA. Immunity to Hold was really nice in BG1.

Had another try with an Undead Hunter.
Was going fine until I fought Bassilus. I could heve played it safe and used Algernon's Cloak to get him to fight Zargal.

That kills two birds with one stone.

However, thought that I was strong enough to fight him, and his summoned polar bears were two much. I therefore ran and he must have used a ranged weapon or similar. The end.

I am now trying a quintessence of paladins, one of each type. Undead Hunter, Cavalier, Inquisitor, Holy Avenger and Holy Liberator. Having a large party, but no mages, bards, thieves or clerics should make for a challenge.

Aasimar Holy Avenger: Str: 18/36, Dex 18, Con 18, Int 12, Wis 15, Cha 19

Tiefling Undead Hunter Str: 18/90, Dex 19, Con 18, Int 13, Wis 18, Cha 18

Earth Genasi Holy Liberator Str 19, Dex 18, Con 19, Int 9, Wis 16, Cha 12

Air Genasi Cavalier: Str 18/14, Dex 19, Con 18, Int 17, Wis 15, Cha 15

Water Genasi Inquisitor: Str 18/68, Dex 18, Con 19, Int 9, Wis 13 Cha 16

Pity I don't have any other paladin kits installed. I could then have had a fire genasi for the sixth type of paladin and had a full set of paladins and sub-races.

Whoa! Never seen him summon bears. Did you see what spell he used?

What usually is troublesome for me (the times he puts up a fight) is Hold Person and Rigid Thinking in combo with the skeleton army, or Unholy Blight.

In my set-up it is quite common. I think that it might be SCS that does it.
I'll see if I can reproduce it some time.

A hint for use against Hold Person.

Before it lands, hide behind one of the megaliths. Usually you will save, but if not, he can't see you and you get a chance to recover from the spell.

I also use SCS but in my latest playthroughs, I've managed to shut him up early with Silence, Stinking Cloud or a Hold Person on my own. The times he has managed to cast a spell, Unholy Blight has usually been the first one.

Silence in particular is excellent against Clerics. Hard to save against and they have no remedy if they fail the save.

Eileth, elven Beast Master, adventuring with Imoen, Viconia, Shar-Teel and Edwin

Eileth and her party had a really nice time in Baldur's Gate, building lots of wealth and spending it on good stuff (mostly potions, wands and enchanted ammunition).

For a SCS battle, Desreta and Vay-ya cooperate nicely. If you only let Desreta see you, she will walk all the way to you before talking. That makes it easy to fight her without worrying about dangerous spells. Vay-ya was Malisoned and Emotioned. The problem was that she was also invisible. Viconia took care of that problem. Can anyone tell me why this spell worked? Shouldn't Minor Globe of Invulnerability stop the 3rd-level Invisibility Purge?

Drelik (magic resistant Bard butler) caused us trouble. Shar-Teel took a Lightning Bolt which then bounced around scarily back and forth between walls.

Ramazith was a cakewalk for Viconia. She had indulged her favourite beverage, a Magic Protection potion. She tried to stay out of Sunfire range as much as possible, in case Ramazith knew that spell. Not even sending in some help improved Ramazith's chances - it only made them worse.

No special reaction from Entar Silvershield that his daughter was about to elope. He just left after talking. Boring.
BTW, I only collected blackmail money from Elkart once. Can't have unwanted NPCs diluting the XP too much.

I took a different approach with the Tiax-Belgin quest this time. I killed the five mercenaries at Blade & Stars, then let Belgin go. This pissed Tiax off so much that he left the party. Oops. (I pretty much knew this would happen)
Not particularly interesting loot on the mercenaries but lots of their weapons and armors seemed duplicated. Most of them left twice as much as expected. One guy had two Studded Leathers and four Katanas...
Eileth found a decent armor for when she wants to sneak: Leather Armor +2.

My messy situation at Elfsong got lessy messy after I had done Lady Areana's quest. Turns out that the only people upstairs were Cyrdemac and the two Ruffians, guys you can kill without penalty and that I would have fought anyway. With the top floor empty of people, I had Skie pick and loot the remaining containers.
Only remaining hostile character is Alyth downstairs. She flees out or in through the main door every time I enter or exit Elfsong. I am surprised she does not fight. She's clearly holding a sword and I think she took a swing at us at one time. Gotta try to Charm and pickpocket her. She can't get more upset than she already is. :)

Some minor quest stuff:
- If you get the best XP reward from Nadarin (small guy in warehouse in BG SE sector that gives you the basilisk quest), you can still pickpocket him for Boots of Stealth afterwards. Good to know, because in my current mod setup, there is not another pair at Ulcaster.
- Fenten bought only one ankheg shell for 250 gp. I had 18 more in my Bag of  Holding but he wasn't interested...
- You can cash in Pheirkas' reward for bringing him Algernon's Cloak, then kill him without penalty for 420 XP and get the cloak back. Not nice, RP-wise, but sometimes I milk the game for what it's worth.
- Cordyr's reward depends on Reputation. If you have 8 or higher, you get a Haste scroll. If you have 7 or lower, you get a Flame Arrow scroll AND 1000 exp. So I made sure to be exactly at 7 (lower and Eileth will become Fallen). Then I brought Safana there and filched the Haste scroll too!
- Melf's Minute Meteors is great for killing a bunch of Green Slime. Ask Edwin.
- Eilith won some fights against mages (that started with blue circle) by throwing Darts of Stunning from the shadows. She usually had two chances before Stoneskin and such kicked in. Nemphre was stunned immediately and her prebuff Shield went off repeatedly while Eileth whacked her with her staff. That looked funny.

Isle of Balduran was lots of fun. Viconia levelled up to 9 in the last outdoor Wolfwere ambush. Nice! We went to talk to Dradeel and rested in his house so Viconia could get Chaotic Commands for use on Shar-Teel for the upcoming Sirine Queen fight.

Shar-Teel backstabbed her way through the shipwreck. My party waited outside, ready to fight anything she had reason to flee from. But on the fourth floor, disaster struck. She even made one save. Double Charm Person Sequencer? I pretty much let her die there. No sense risking any other party members.

Viconia took a peek and found herself on the exact spot where Shar-Teel had died. That meant she could pick up all Shar-Teel's stuff while the game was paused and then flee. Eilieth used a Raise Dead scroll. I know I could have rested again and have Viconia get Raise Dead but that would feel a bit like abuse, and I wanted revenge on Daese NOW! Besides, I wanted to confirm that Rangers can use priest scrolls. They can. :D
ShadowKeeped Shar-Teel to CON 8. That meant I no longer wanted her to wear Claw of Kazgaroth (would have lowered her HP by 9). Claw got stuffed in the BoH.

Rematch time, and a good time to make use of those cool Bolts of Lightning. They are not the overpowered vanilla 4D4 variant but they are still powerful.

I made peace with Kaishas for the first time. Nice dialogue (with her, Durlyle and Marella) but it would have been nice to get some XP from it. (Kaishas the Loup Garou is worth 2200)

Tried to prepare for the Mendas + Baresh fight. That did not go so well. We tried to hit him with elemental arrows and bolts but everything missed (probably Mirror Image that helped him). Mendas cast a Chaos at Edwin. I moved him outside. That will usually make the spell fizzle. I was too late, though, but everyone saved. Unfortunately, we still did not manage to disrupt him and he had one more Chaos.

Whoops.
Jeebers.
Crapola...
This is bad.

OK, Edwin and Viconia, it´s up to you now! Do your best to protect all party members until we can wait out this thing messing with our heads! Viconia tanked Baresh and Edwin throwed a Malison at Mendas. Baresh had drunk Magic Shielding potion so I had no plan to try any save-or-else spells on him. Even though I had no control over her, Eileth was still useful. To my surprise, Mendas did not cast any more spells. He turned Loup Garou and attacked Eileth. Oh my, she is holding a ranged weapon, so he has +4 to hit and damage! She can't take this kind of onslaught for many rounds more.

Is there anything I can do? Sure there is, get him to attack someone else. Edwin to the rescue! Stoneskin sure is nice...

Of course, Eileth did not have the sense to stay invisible but now I brought Viconia over and moved Edwin out. "Dammit Dosan, enough with those Lightning bolts!" A few shots more and Edwin was out of Stoneskins. I moved him outside and had him cast Shield.

Wanna know what spell Viconia is casting? Magic Resistance. I figured that bringing MR down to 18% would be quite useful. (Pretty cool that this is spell is now at its best for offensive use. Much better than what a level 20 Cleric can do with it...)

You may ask yourself why Were-Baresh is not throwing himself over Imoen. He was as buggy as ever. There are actually two 'Bareshes' on top of each other. They can't move from that spot. Nice that Imoen decided to stop two steps away...

Shar-Teel seemed to have stopped fighting for the moment, so Edwin went inside again and did his thing. Now, as long as Imoen would stay away from the Bareshes, it was just a matter of waiting out the Chaos. That didn't take long. Shar-Teel drunk a Stone Giant Strength potion and an Oil of Speed, slaughtered Mendas and one of the Bareshes with repeated Werebane backstabbing. Viconia tanked the remaining Baresh, Shar-Teel did another backstab, mages added some spells (a few MMs got through), Shar-Teel switched to dual wielding Bastard Swords (Balduran & +3 vs. Shapeshifters) and finished him. Yay!

List of weapons that can harm Loup Garou:
Silver Dagger 'Werebane'
Sword of Balduran
Bastard Sword +1, +3 vs. Shapeshifters

List of weapons that I though might harm Loup Garou but don't:
Two-Handed Sword +2 'Spider's Bane'
War Hammer +2 'Ashideena'
Boomerang Dagger +2
Melf's Minute Meteors

They are also highly magic resistant (I'd guess 75% or so) and have pretty good regeneration.

Imoen is now a level 9 Mage but her 5th-level slot is empty. That's because I still have not found any other 5th-level scroll than the Feeblemind that Safana picked from Shandalar! None for sale at the Sundries or Ulgoth's Beard, none on Lendarn, Ramazith, Davaeorn or any of the other high-level mages we have killed and none on Durlag´s four warders level. Item Randomizer, where have you put them!?
(You can bet that Droth the ogre mage had one - the dude I never saw because Shoal took too much damage too quickly...)

Eileth, level 8 Beast Master, 76+6 HP
Imoen, level 9 Thief -> level 9 Mage, 51 HP
Viconia, level 9 Cleric, 40+5 HP (4 deaths, CON=4)
Shar-Teel, level 7 Fighter -> level 10 Thief, 63 HP (1 death, CON=8)
Edwin, level 9 Conjurer, 37 HP (1 death, CON=15)

(Edwin is less than 900 exp from level-up.)

I like it.

The chaos fight must have been scary.
I just had a similar experience only it was confusion!
It was those Dark Horizon Assassins in the gnoll stronghold.
EVERYONE got confused which wasn't too bad at first because my party still fought the assassins. However once the assassins were killed, they started fighting each other! That was bad until one party member walked over to some nearby gnolls and the party started fighting the enemy again. We still ended up badly mauled but survived.

In future I'll take on those assassins single handed. Much safer!

We didn't survive an ambush by improved spiders. Even took a magic resistance potion to improve the odds but still got held. It's a pity that Inquisitors get immunity to hold and not freedom of action!

That was the end of another inquisitor run. :(

It was going well too!

I was soloing the Undead Hunter so no useful spells at the time. For soloing, Algernon's Cloak is definitely the easy way to do it.

The SCS spider web is a natural attack, not magic, and therefore I don't think the MR potion would help at all.

Thanks for the info. Shortage of freedom of action potions was the real problem.

Once in Restenford that would have been solved.

Grond0/Gate70 multiplayer attempt 10: Taffy (Grond0, protaganist) and Tibbs (Gate70).

Our last attempt was with a barbarian and a monk.  Both those character types are a bit vulnerable at low levels, so it was annoying to fail in SoA just as the characters were starting to come into their own.  As a result we thought we'd have another go with the same character types.

So far so good with the opening session with no deaths.  Initially they headed quickly down to Nashkel and then, via Caldo & Krumm, over to the Gnoll Stronghold to pick up the charisma tome.

The intention was then to head north briefly to pick up the boots of cold, but that took rather longer than expected.  Initially a random spawning group of ogres were run round, then Taffy protested as Tibbs persuaded the mountain bear to join the chase.  Just as they were all nearly dead the duo moved too far away from the spawn point and a second group of ogres spawned!  However, all were eventually dealt with and the merchant duly handed over the boots (thanks to Taffy's charisma of 18).

A brief stopover at Beregost saw a few tasks done before heading off to save Brage from himself.  The next task should have been to save Prism from Greywolf, but it looked like I clicked on the wrong conversation optionPosted Image so his sword is gone for good.  There were no such mistakes with Meilum.

Getting a bit more adventurous now the duo headed for the basilisk area.  Taffy read the green scroll and tanked the basilisks before raging to tackle Mutamin.  He actually needed both his rages to kill him.  This was largely because he had broken both his flails on basilisks; initially he tried using a non-proficient weapon, but switched to shooting with a bow instead.

After eventually exploring the Friendly Arm the duo finished the session by rescuing a chicken and overseeing the successful revival of Melicamp.

Here are their current character records - both with slightly below average HPs so far:
Posted Image

Posted Image

Nearly all the early encounters were dealt with either by both using run and shoot tactics or with Tibbs running enemies round while Taffy shot them.  Of course, without using the pause button, this did mean that targeting was not always successful and enemies got a few licks in - here Tibbs just survived a wolf bite while at 1st level.  More recently Tibbs tends to attack from the shadows, trying out his stunning blows on the tougher opponents, while Taffy tanks with his higher HP until he's taken a few hits.

Taffy Barbarian 5. 80 kills.
Tibbs Monk 5. 23 kills.

Links to the ends of our previous multiplayer attempts:
1 Nawgrim and Peer. Charname stupidly killed by trapped container in Brynnlaw
2 Nadir and Kaxir. Companion laughably chunked by Spellhold greater mummy while in inventory!
3 Berserker and Cavalier. No link, berserker caught by 15hp rage expiry after Mirianne's ogres defeated.
4 Boor and Perry. Thaxxy chunks companion then charname
5 Scion and Cyill. Charname needlessly steps into beholder/gauth range
6 Mayse and Khazad. Charname needlessly tries to melee mind flayers
7 Bubble and Fomin. Companion imprisoned by Kangaxx while sanctuaried
8 Pendal and Thimble. Melissan is defeated, but Pendal chooses to remain with his companion
9 Bronzer and Reyna.  Charname failed to account for the saving throw penalty on Finger of Death

Ahh, too bad you didn't have my current mod setup, where Ribald sells Freedom scrolls.

Good luck with the Berserker/Monk combo.
(You can't pause the game? Seriously? I can't even imagine how that would be like...)

It changes the game completely.
I don't like it myself but did try it.
It means that you have to use scripts for your party.
I like to make the decisions myself.

New game with an Earth Genasi Inquisitor.

When Gorion told me that I would have to overcome the taint in my bloodline, I didn’t understand. It is not as if I was Tiefling or Drow, but was an Earth Genasi Inquisitor. I had the following stats:
Str 19 Dex 18 Con 19 Int 10 Wis 12 Cha 16. ** Axes. ** Two-handed weapons.
The training that I received as an inquisitor has been invaluable in helping me to choose the right thing to do, but I still have the occasional urge to acquire things that don’t belong to me. This resulted in me having to hand over all my gold whilst in Candlekeep. Fortunately it didn’t amount to much.

Whilst in Candlekeep, I was attacked by three assassins, all of whom I killed. One of them was using an unbreakable two-handed axe +3 and a bag of holding. They will both come in useful. Another was using a rod of terror which fortunately was ineffective when used against me.

After using it for a while, I found that it had the effect of lowering my charisma. Fortunately Lord Foreshadow gave me a ring which mitigates its effects.
Upon leaving Candlekeep we were ambushed and Gorion was killed. I arranged for his burial, and picked up his effects which didn’t amount to much. I headed southwards where I met Melicamp who had been transformed into a chicken. I helped by taking him to High Hedge where he was transformed back. I then helped Marl come to terms with the death of his son and delivered a book to Firebead.

I headed northwards and returned a ring to Joia and helped a widow who was being pestered by her undead husband. After that I agreed to help some fishermen, but upon discovering the truth ended up having to kill them. I used Lord Foreshadow’s ring to charm a caravan guard who then killed Tarnesh for me. Inside the inn I was asked to deal with some spiders in Beregost.

It was probably my fault that the caravan guards fought each other, even though I didn’t strike any blows myself. However, in the end one of them attacked me. Fortunately I prevailed. Two of them carried arrows of freezing which have a chance of holding the target. Fortunately they didn’t hold me!

When I returned to Beregost to face the spiders, since the Morninglords of Lathander and the Morninglord guards were better equipped than I was, I charmed them and let them get on with the fight by themselves. What wimps! They didn’t fight back! All of them got killed. At least Marl fought back and killed one of them before he died, and even Algernon fought back even if he was ineffective! I therefore went to the Jovial Juggler but got the same result with the difference that Bjornin although injured killed the attacking spiders. I can now fully equip a party with that of the fallen. (On a side note, I noticed that he fought with a spear. Upon investigating further, I discovered that he didn’t have a one-handed weapon, so why did he have a shield?)

I used Algernon’s cloak to charm Morninglords etc. to fight against Silke if necessary. It was! She attacked me and the charmed army I had prepared. Well to be honest it was more a rabble than an army. They couldn’t remember an order for more than four seconds and one of them got charmed by Silke and had to be charmed again! It’s just as well that there were enough of them to deal with Silke despite their failings.

After dealing with Silke I helped Eltoth get back into shape and sorted out the squabbles of the Dudley family. This has brought my reputation to 20. Perhaps time to do some shopping.
Due to Bjornin killing the last of the spiders, I was able to return all of Landrin’s possessions. I killed an ogrillon and found a letter than so pleased the writer’s wife that she gave me a ring of protection. Being helpful really pays off in the long term.

To fight Tristan and Isolde, I charmed the Flaming Fist Mercenary. He fought the one with the returning knife whilst I fought the one with the small sword that holds its victim. For that battle I used a bow equipped with arrows of freezing. Once he was held, I moved in and killed him with my axe. Meanwhile the Mercenary had been killed. I cast true sight and went in search of his killer who, being visible caused no problems.

Heading northwards again, I cleared the area above ground of both bandits and Ankheg. At Farmer Brun’s request I went in search of his son. The Ankheg below ground seem much tougher. The first one I met reduced my health points to 24! Fortunately, having killed it, I became a Level 6 Inquisitor and now have ** in two-handed swords, not that I have one of any quality, but perhaps one day I might own the Holy Avenger. One can only hope.
Having become a little stronger myself, I cleared the underground area of Ankhegs as well. Sadly I found the body of Farmer Brun’s son as well, which I returned to his father. The Ankheg were tough and injured me, but fortunately, not seriously.

I have met a likeminded person to me. He is a Cavalier and a Paladin of Helm called Ajantis. Hopefully together we will clear the land of bandits.

A cleric called Gavin has also joined the party. Both members are extremely happy with my behaviour. With a reputation of 20 they should be! I headed south to the gnoll stronghold where Ajantis got some useful bracers. We also got a helmet of defence from Droth. Now the Morninglord at the Temple near Beregost wants me to fight Bassilus. I have been ambushed a few times by Ghasts, but didn't dare use the potions of freedom of action as the improved spiders are so much more dangerous and I only have three potions.

In each ambush only one party member was held, so we survived!:)

Good luck with the Berserker/Monk combo.
(You can't pause the game? Seriously? I can't even imagine how that would be like...)

Pausing is possible, but it's more problematic in multiplayer.  That's partly because it can be disruptive for the other person, but also because the MP lag means it doesn't necessarily pause or unpause when you want it to.
