Hard luck Aasim. SCS mages are all pretty dangerous, so you might want to leave them until your party is a bit more experienced.Aasim wrote...

So far I took Imoen (well, didn't "take" her, she joined herself), Ajantis (Cavalier kit) and Gavin (Lathander Priest).
Managed to avoid harder battles (apart from spiders in Beregost, which used up all healing porions), and all party members are now 2nd level, Imoen being close to 3rd.
Have to think about what next. Nashel mines is still too hard I think. Will take Minsc and get Dynaheir, and finally get some magery.

Hmm, Athena is immune to Hold, but she is also Good aligned. Unholy Blight?
Yes. I couldn't believe the damage it makes. For some reason, all characters I create start with max HP at lvl 1. Athena rolled 12 on 2nd level, so I tought it was safe to go vs a Cleric. So wrong.... The big issue was bad THAC0, so little chance of spell interruption. Should have gotten Dynaheir, or even Edwin (temporary) for this battle. SCS is really handing it to me:(. Will probably start with a premade party, neutral in aligment so those Blights won't be that much pain to take.

So, I figured - enemy is expecting a frontal assault. In SCS, the group in the tent don't just wait for u to kill all guards, they exit the tent and come after you, all at once, often forcing numerous reloads. This time, I took the fight to them. Buffed with potions (no more Oils of speed, unfortunately. Spent last one on Ankhegs.), Barkskin and Invisibility, we enered the main tent. Battle starts with this.
Then, oil action.
And mop-up.
Battle outside was much easier without fear of mages, and Xan proved very effective with his Fireball wand.
Went to Cloakwood, got a quest to find some druid!? Never seen this before. Think Jaheira has something to do with it. I accepted, because if I didn't I'd have to fight a bunch of druids with Call lightnings, which hurts badly. Also, finally got a thief, Coran, and finished his quest for wyvern. Things are looking rather good.

the key was - kill summoned nymphs ASAP. They're deadlier than druids themselves!
Good plan. They are frail but have many powerful spells. They are also worth 1400 exp each.
(Although high-level Druids are not pushovers either, if they get things like Insect Plague, Animal Summoning II/III or high-level Call Lightning going).

I'm afraid all summons are worth nothing in my game setup. Regardless, I failed again:(. Got to Cloakwood mines, backstabbed my way through to Daveorn. But then - Battle Horrors - modified by Aurora Shoes and Boots. Mage himself is powerful, but I have potions and a prot magic scroll to survive anything he throws at me.However, those Horrors.... THAC0 -2, 22 Strenght, over 120HP, very low AC (-5), shoot magic missiles, immune to Elements, poison and missile fire, have teleport ability (even to characters away from their line of sight) and, worst of all, they see right through any invisibilty. If I only knew this before, I would have never installed that Aurora component. They would present a danger even to a BG2 party, let alone these guys (Xan dies in 3 seconds). When Deaveorn joins the fight (I lure them away with invis), it's a massacre. I can't even kill one of them, let alone 2. Just 2 hard. I'll have to uninstall that component and try again, I'm afraid. Shame, really, because I grew fond of these guys. I even go Yeslick to join....bah. Damn myself for not reading through mod readme's.
Quick edit- Jaheira can't yet cast lvl4 spells.

I thought that was impossible at level 1??? Started again.
I am Junoc a Neutral Evil Air Genasi Conjurer (Str 19, Dex 18, Con 19, Int 18, Wis 18, and Cha 2) and my intent is to become a powerful. I have already discovered that it is usually to my own benefit to do things that help others as they usually respond in kind; therefore most people are not even aware of my evil nature as they do not see my true motives.
I made one mistake in Candlekeep when I was spotted adding to my belongings from a chest, and was forced to give up all my wealth (1gp). However I managed to avoid further loss by being quicker on my feet than the guard. As a result I have enough gold to buy a few spells when I have the opportunity to do so.
I was ambushed by an assassin called Carbos and was immediately in trouble when he saved against a blindness spell, he then delivered such a blow that I panicked whereupon she chased me round and round the room. When I eventually recovered my wits I ran outside, but he followed me. (Never happened to me before. Is this the result of a mod?)
I ran to give myself another chance to cast a spell and this time it worked. I therefore used throwing daggers to kill him. The guards were worse than useless. Not one of them, not even the Gatewarden intervened. I will clearly have to become more powerful as I cannot even rely on the watchers.
When I examined my wounds I only had one health point remaining. Upon picking up the possessions of Carbos I discovered why he had dealt such a powerful blow. He was carrying a rod of terror together with a ring of human influence to protect himself from its dangers.
After leaving Candlekeep, I headed with Gorion towards the Friendly Arms Inn, but was ambushed, Gorion being killed protecting me. I tried to return to Candlekeep but was denied access and after arranging for his burial went to the Friendly Arms, picking up some bags of holding and a few knickknacks from the bodies of the slain on the way.
After picking up a ring of wizardry, I headed for Beregost where I helped a man come to terms with the death of his son and bought a book for Firebead.
I was attacked by spiders in a deserted house and ran for my life back to the inn. The Morninglords and guards did nothing to protect me, so I ran upstairs in the hope that someone up there might have some guts. I tried to charm Algernon with the ring that Carbos had, but the spell failed!
I was badly injured, (Again down to 1 HP) but thankfully not poisoned. I drank a potion and ran to another inn where I recovered and slept. Let's see what happens when I meet those spiders again!

I ran outside, but he followed me. (Never happened to me before. Is this the result of a mod?)
Yes, this is an effect of the BG2 engine (Tutu or BGT). It's both good and bad. For example, Landrin's spiders in Beregost are much easier to handle when you can take the fight outside and pelt them from range while running as many laps around the block as you need. In Vanilla, it's a fight against all four in a small space. Great AC or a Sleep spell was almost a must there.

Those intrepid crime fighters Taffy & Tibbs have finally managed to make a bit more progress on the Sword Coast during a very smooth session today.
The first wrong to be righted was Bassilus, who will suborn no more undead. Zargal and his support crew swiftly followed before the duo made their way down to the mines.
There was a slightly odd occurence with Mulahey - he was stunned by a sneak attack from Tibbs, but commenced his conversation at virtually the same time and that appeared to stop him from being affected. However, his spells had no effect on a raging Taffy and he was soon overcome.
On the way back to Nashkel they stopped off at the carnival for a stern word with Zordral. Taffy was left to soak up the damage from acid arrows there, while Tibbs ran round the tent in panic. There was a similar scenario in Nashkel when Nimbul sent Tibbs packing, but this time Taffy found an early way through his mirror images.
After Tranzig provided directions with his dying breath it was off to the bandit camp. Tibbs was pretty successful with his stunning blows here. Ardenor Crush was an early victim, although he survived the experience as Taffy was busy running away from some other bandits. Taugosz was a bit tough to risk getting into hand to hand so Tibbs ran him round until he finally got tired of acting as a pincushion. In the tent Taffy's rage accounted for Venkt & Raemon, but he took significant damage in the process and Tibbs came to help him out after dealing with Hakt.
Most encounters in the Cloakwood were just avoided. The exception was dealing with Seniyad where, once more, Tibbs' attack proved to be a stunner. The duo have just arrived at the mine and will be tackling the party there at the start of their next outing.
Taffy Barbarian 6, 62 HPs. 172 kills (92 this session).
Tibbs Monk 6, 40 HPs. 75 kills (52 this session).

Regrettably Taffy and Tibbs failed to even make it as far as Sarevok.
The start of the session was slightly misleading in that everything went well in the fight against the mine party. Drasus came alone to investigate first and then Genthore followed, also alone. With just the mages left Tibbs snuck in for a sneak attack, while Taffy filled them full of ice arrows. Both mages died quickly, though Rezdan did manage to summon some monsters in the instants before he died.
Working past Hareishan proved far more difficult. The original idea was to try and separate her from her guards. That actually worked quite well, but unfortunately with both Taffy and Tibbs having poor AC the guards inflicted too much damage on them and they were forced to run away to buy some more healing potions. On the way out they passed Hareishan, who ignored the fact that Tibbs appeared to be out of spell range and killed her with a flame arrow. After a trip to the temple the duo returned to find that Hareishan had not taken the opportunity to heal herself in the meantime and she was quickly finished off.
Daveorn also proved a problem. Taffy took potions of invulnerability and heroism to try and tank the battle horrors, but the poor weapon adjustment from his splint armour meant they were still hitting with a 16 and managed that quite a few times before falling - meaning the 20 healing potions bought when Tibbs was raised were all gone already. Tibbs tried a series of sneak attacks on Daveorn using the boots of speed, but was unable to kill him in time to avoid a fireball and dire charm. However, he survived and with Daveorn down to using his staff in melee he became another victim.
In the city the intention was to improve equipment. The first (and last) piece sought was the gloves of ogre power. With Taffy rage-attacking and Tibbs trying out his stunning blow, the odds were heavily against the spell-caster surviving. However, all initial attacks failed to hit her and meanwhile Desreta was merrily smacking away behind. Tibbs and Taffy were both badly damaged and decided to run to prepare for a further assault. Taffy successfully got upstairs and had been there for at least a couple of seconds before collapsing. I imagine that was some sort of multi-player effect, though I'm not sure what - possibly Desreta got some sort of extended lag hit in from downstairs or perhaps a spell followed him upstairs (HPs are not lost when barbarian rage expires so it shouldn't have been that). Whatever the cause the result was unfortunately clear enough.
Although the barbarian and monk are certainly a viable combination, their vulnerability to damage in BG1 and much of BG2 means a lot of care is needed. Rather than try this again we're intending to go with a good guy combination of cavalier and archer next time - it will be nice to have someone with the ability to face enemies encased in plate armour!
Taffy Barbarian 6, 62 HPs. 209 kills (37 this session).
Tibbs Monk 7, 50 HPs. 98 kills (23 this session).

Aithis, Half-Elven blade. Charming and quick with wit, blade and spell. Dead. Aithis was heinously murdered by a bandit ambush traveling between the Friendly Arm Inn and Beregost.
Seriously, like ten or twelve of the guys spawned. I think both Charname and Imoen died in the first round. It was one of those "you have been waylaid by enemies...". All arranged in a perfect circle around me and Immy. No bueno.
