Krimlor's version of events (9)
Grond locates some Red Robed Freaks from the shadows, Denak retaining his voice while Cassia and the remaining freaks start in silence.
Posted Image

Krimlor demonstrates a doom/command and cheekily moves in to finish with Ashideena.
Posted Image

Cassia and Krimlor melee through the bandit camp with missile cover. Taugosz soaks up doom, LMD, blindness, chromatic orb and hold person.

Hi all. It's been a long time since I've posted up, but I remember some of you, esp. Alesia. I'm thinking it might be time for another go at the no-reload challenge.

Are any of you running that new enhanced edition BG?

I like mods, especially SCS and hard times and the like, so I'm inclined to play with the old modded rig. But if there's something special and new in BGEE that's worth the upgrade, it'd be good to know. Especially since I suspect that it may become possible to mod the new game with SCS in the forseeable future.

Cheers all, I'm glad to see people still playing this game as it was meant to be played.

Krimlor's version of events (10)
Krimlor loses the debate about how to enter the bandit tent. Cassia manages to step between Raemon and Alesia but Britik has focused on Blackstrider. Hakt poisons Cassia as Krimlor reaches Venkt, forcing the dwarf back to defend as the shapeshifter glugs an elixir of health and races to the hobgoblin archer. Blackstrider runs but Raemon is too close for comfort.
Posted Image

The Blade may be down but the dwarf is busy tanking while the shapeshifter shreds the hobgoblin followed by the mage.
Posted Image

Raemon and Britik fall to melee before blindness hits them, and Krimlor is eventually persuaded to spend 800gp at the temple to raise Blackstrider on the condition that party order can be altered from time to time.

Krimlor's version of events (11)
Krimlor suggests Cassia does the shopping today but Blackstrider tries out his new friends scroll and Krimlor looks skyward. On to Cloakwood, where Alesia obtains a cloak and Krimlor manages to out-cast Seniyad (can't remember the last time he didn't manage to call lightning).
Posted Image

We carelessly spring an ambush, and five of us save against the web. Cassia is stuck, and poisoned by ettercaps. Offensive Spin, Called Shot and Blindness won't be enough but Pot scares the four enemies with a Horror. Krimlor moves forward before realising he has no slow poison memorised. Only as Cassia expires does he realise he has a suitable special ability (oops). 800gp later Cassia is breathing again.

(last 2 sessions may have been affected by RP'ing a dwarf and partaking of alcohol, leaving it there for another night!)

Blackstrider, blade 5, 25 kills. 1 death.
Alesia mage 3 thief 4, 15 kills. 1 death.
Grond, archer 5, 103 kills.
Cassia, were cat 5, 111 kills. 1 death.
Krimlor fighter 4 thief 4, 41 kills.
Pot mage 4, 16 kills.

How are you keeping Pot from dieing Gate70?

He's jammy (lucky) as far as I can tell, might use his stats for a lottery ticket!

He also had earliest access to LMD which helped keep him out of the one-shot zone. He also survived 2-3 close calls in ambush, either from arrows or ettercaps. Being at the back is safer than the front, although I think the middle two positions are safest in the default layout.

I've also tried to keep the weakest characters equipped with items to counter arrows. Pot has magic bracers (AC8 I think), a ROP +1. I treated him to the displacement cloak and boots of avoidance so that is a huge help now.

Alesia has gauntlets of dexterity, just coughed up for good archmagi robe, ROP +1, fire resistance ring, girdle of piercing, winter boots and cloak of non-detection.

Blackstrider has diddly squat so is relying on HP and Cassia/Krimlor running ahead despite party order. Expect him to take AC6 bracers if we get to Davaeorn then ogre strength bracers in the Low Lantern. I'm thinking mirror images and barkskin/spirit armour will help late game but open to suggestions as I'm not a barder. Can remember Grond0 using armour but I don't do this so bad luck for him and Alesia...

Cassia has helm of defence, golden girdle, ROP +1, grounding boots, Meilum's bracers.

Grond has leather armour +2 (amazons), bracers of archery and boots of stealth,

Krimlor has the stuff the others don't want; ankheg plate, medium shield (now +1), girdle of bluntness. He also has Mulahey's ring as Cassia isn't casting too often.

I'll throw my hat in the ring since I already play either No-Reload or Limited reload, though my characters seem to fall relatively early and I've never finished BG. It would feel like cheating to me to finish it by constantly reloading. May as well keep track here. I've been reading the last few pages (and the first few) of this thread and it seems many of you have been at it awhile. I didn't see anyone listed in the first post. Has anyone made it to the end?

My Setup
  • TUTU
  • BG1NPC (Portraits and Send NPC's to Inns)
  • BG1 Unfinished Business
  • BG2 Tweaks (Breakable armor and shields,Bags of Holding, Exotic items pack, Gems and Potions require ID, Remove level Cap, Limited Storekeepers Identifaction)
  • Spawn Randomizer (80%, 2 Days)

Other Rules I play by to keep myself sane:
  • I Roll a D20 to determine the max number of times I can reroll inital stats (So I don't sit there for an hour clicking)
  • I use a spreadsheet that randomly generates Sex/Race/class/Kit or import a previously rolled character (Exported right after creation)
I'll be rolling a character sometime tonight and should find some time to play later tommarrow. I just signed up for this forum yesterday though so it likely won't let me post pictures for a week :(

...And I pulled a Human Kensai. Never played one before.  (link to character image) Rolled a 5 on the D20 but got lucky and had a decent second go.

Enter: Takahiro, Neutral Good Human Kensai
Stats: Str 18/74, Dex 18, Con 18, Int 9, Wis 10, Cha 10
Proficiencies: Scimitar ++, Two Weapon Style ++

Takahiro is surely dead lol, I'm going to have to be really careful with this guy first few levels since he can't wear armor. Any advice? I Plan on running him with a with a good aligned party rather than solo.

@Clarke_W, Welcome!

With limited firepower and a party full of glass cannons, we decided to head south whilst picking our fights carefully. The spiders in Beregost are easy if you send one character in to draw them out because the fence will bottleneck any that make their ‘Sleep’ save. Cassia wanted the cloak from Algernon but our pickpocket skills aren’t up to the challenge yet and the rest of the party is ill disposed towards murder so we continued south to Nashkel... with some minor encounters.

Posted Image  Posted Image  Posted Image

Grond claimed the “Ankheg Mail” and having a Cleric allowed us to grab the “Wand of Monster Summoning” without having to fight the defenders... more importantly we sold the gems which gave us (just) enough to buy a “Necklace of Missiles”.

Posted Image  Posted Image

Bassilus is a tough bugger for a low level party so Krimlor uses his ‘Sanctuary’ to spot him whilst Cassia sends in the doppelganger to glass the area with her new “Necklace of Missiles”... selling the ‘Holy symbol” to the temple nets Blackstrider his level two and pays for identifying the other two wands.

Posted Image  Posted Image

Posted Image  Posted Image

Current location; parked at Gullykin.
Blackstrider, blade 2, 4 kills.
Alesia mage 1 thief 1, 3 kills. 1 death.
Grond, archer 1, 9 kills.
Cassia, were cat 1, 12 kills. 1 death.
Krimlor fighter 1 Cleric 1, 7 kills.
Pot mage 1, 1 kill. 3 deaths.

@Gate70, Blackstrider is the spawn in my game which limits his tanking ability somewhat but I normally equip low level Blades with the magic chainmail from the same Ghoul tomb as the summoning wand... yes it stops spell casting but he can still use wands/ sing and it’s not like a Blade gets a lot of spells per day anyway.

Strategy; ‘Doom’, ‘Command’, ‘Sleep’ combos  and exploiting the fact that ‘Project Image’ can cast spells/ use “Necklace of missiles” with malevolence.

Played a bit after character creation, just found out the hard way my screenshot utility gives me black images in fullscreen with this game so I'll write this now whilst I still remember then find a better utility for next time.

Takahiro could barely afford a single scimitar in Candlekeep to start off with. Running about and doing silly errands for the locals he ran afoul of Shank who took a nasty bite out of him...twice. Luckily he managed to land a single killing blow and put an end to all the grunting and flailing about. Killed some rats, ran more errands... He was gifted a potion but remains too stupid to identify it (I have the "Must Identify Gems and Potions" portion of one of these mods installed). A second ruffian tried to slay him but fell before he could raise his arm to protest. He invited Imoen of the journey, dispite his knowledge that Gorion would not allow it and was so bold as to buy her some new studded armor to take with her. Gorion refused her of course and they left under the cover of darkness.

Everything that happened afterward was a blurr. Gorion, slain by some demon knight or some such as Takahiro had never seen. He barely escaped with his life and wandered the forest until morning trying to gather his thoughts. Imoen tracked him down on the road out of Candlekeep. Together they sought out his remains and found the letter that explained so much and so little at the same time. They also found some gold, a few scrolls (Armor and Magic Missle) and a gem they have yet to identify.

Making thier way towards the Friendly Arms Inn they dismissed the offer of two distasteful looking wanderers, found another gem in a tree trunk by the road and met a strange old man who pointed them in the rigfht direction.

Shortly after they ran across a hoard of gibberlings that didn't look too dangerous. They took them on only to find them joined by a decond group of gibberlings. Our bruised and battered kensai made it though alive but not without quafing two poitions of healing (now identified by Imoen)

Erring on the side of caution, the party opted to send Imoen around to scout the region and maybe find more treasure hidden in the brush. Instead she found a pack of wolves from which they were forced to flee. Takahiro managed to escape unscathed this time but Imoen wasn't so lucky. Mauled by a flanking wolf during her attempted escape. Takahiro, being just south of her and heading north when this happend, ran past her lifeless body and grabbed her gear without pause and headed to the FAI.

He had 103 gold when he got there and the Priest wanted 100 to revive her which of course he paid.

Attacked yet again, this time by a mage, Imoen used her wand of MM a few times while Takahiro took his chances up close. Where the heck are the guards when you need them? Oh well, they somehow managed to take him down (very lucky actually) and met up with Jaheira and Khalid, agreeing to head towards Nashkel. The group had the gems Identified, found a ring of wizardry in the nearby forest, made swift work of some Hobgoblins to the north and returned a ring to a local woman (Imoen was eyeing her locked chest but Takahiro gave her a stern look) and got some rest at the Inn before stocking up on gear and supplies.

I plan on hunting down a local baddie with a belt fettish next before heading south.

Current Location: Steps of the Friendly Arm
Takahiro: 14 HP, 901 Exp, 15 Kills
Imoen: 8 HP, 511 Exp, 9 Kills
Jaheira: 12 HP, 1889 Exp, 2 Kills
Khalid, 13HP, 242 Exp, 1 Kill

Please do have a go.  I have the EE and have played with it a bit (there's one thread I did on this forum that describes some of the differences).  However, currently I'm back to my old, modded, setup to provide a bit more challenge.

Too many to count have done BG1.  There have been lists posted a few times in the no-reload threads of people who've made it all the way through the trilogy as that is pretty rare.

Some people would advise letting him join melee late, once a tank already has the enemy focused on them.  That is a viable strategy in your setup, but I would suggest giving him throwing axes.  Even without any proficiency in those you will find he more than pulls his weight in the group thanks to his high dexterity and increased damage from strength.  Keeping him out of melee will make it easier to stay safe.  The main drawback is how quickly you run out of axes (until you can get the magic throwing axe in Candlekeep catacombs), but if other members of the party carry some spares for him supplies are usually manageable.

Just posting about trilogy runs I had a sudden urge to try one myself while I'm still feeling fairly fresh. I don't need any help with BG1, but experience suggests I do with BG2! Therefore I'm going to load the dice my way by not using difficulty mods and by rolling up a power-game multi-player party.

Shylock had just reached Baldur's Gate in the game I started with him by the way - I'll leave that on hold while I have a go at the above.

Right on, Thanks for the advice Grond0. I was eying those axes in Candlekeep but couldn't afford enough of them to make them viable. I'll definitely grab some before taking on the ogre tomorrow.

Daggers (throwing) are another good backup... they are much lighter to carry and the un-dead around High Hedge will keep you supplied for free until you get that magic axe that Grond0 talked about.

Right.  I've rolled up my legions for my powerplay.

Posted Image

Caesar. Dwarf Berserker  18(93), 17, 19, 16,10, 2
Legate. Human Kensai (will dual to mage)  18(37), 18, 18, 18, 18, 3
Auxiliary. Halfling Bounty Hunter  17, 19, 18, 18, 9, 3
Vexillaris. Half-elf Blade  18, 18, 18, 18, 3, 18
Dwarf Priest of Lathander  18, 17, 19, 15, 18, 2
Centurion. Half-elf Fighter/Druid  18(97), 18, 18, 4, 18, 17
I was originally thinking of making the druid a dual class as well, but that would have made rolling decent stats even more impossible, so I settled for the multi-class thick as two short planks approach.

@Blind Visionary. Glad to see you back in action.

@Clarke_W. Welcome to the challenge! As Grond0 mentioned, we haven't kept records of the BG1 and BG2 only sucesses, but we do maintain a list of successful Triology runs. It can found here:
http://social.biowar...index/3120942/1
(hopefully, we'll be adding your name soon)

@Everyone. We've made excellent progress in revitalizing the BG1 thread. Keep safe, Amn awaits.

Just to say there's one missing from that list, Grond0 & I succeeded in a multiplayer trilogy no reload on our eighth attempt. Will pm Corey if he doesn't notice this.

We'd like to do more but can no longer connect (between an old Directplay game, Windows 7, Linux, Hamachi, broadband and cable). We've spent a long time trying to get it to work - can both run multiplayer over a network and not sure which end the problem is.

Grond0 has BG:EE, I'm waiting impatiently for the Linux version and hopefully that might resolve the issue. Would be awesome to have a larger party!

Good luck Clarke_W, Blind Visionary, Grond0.
ussnorway, my Grond can't equip the ankheg plate so must be a mod difference somewhere.
Edit, just noticed your Pot death count too. Assume you have SCS components that allow for more intelligent targeting which would make it a lot more challenging to keep him alive.

Krimlor's version of events (12)
Krimlor leads against Centeol but is forced to flee. Pot yet again manages to be the closest to danger and still skirt round the spiders safely - he's careful to switch to melee weapon when running for his life.
Posted Image

After a running battle the spiders and ettercaps are finally defeated. Blackstrider pockets the two handed sword and we move on. Peter of the North proves to be no challenge but then we are ambushed by wyverns and spiders. Krimlor blocks a wyvern as he throws a green potion to Blackstrider, and then we retreat again.

(missing a decent tank here, hopefully can improve with equipment swaps once another level or two are gained)

OK, will check the armour in more detail. Edit, can't equip it even in patched & unmodded ToB install. Edit2, same in my EasyTutu install although that at least has the item description extended to specify more classes/kits that can't use it and does indicate archer can't. Edit3, Tutufix has something, from the readme. "- Ankheg Plate Mail unusable by Avengers, but usable by Archers and Beastmasters." So can't be applied to BG2 or BGT, but I did also spot something about this on BG:EE.

Krimlor's version of events (13)
A hamadryad is killed before she can try to command Cassia, then we head past a scary cave, fake melee a wyvern ambush and reach the outskirts of Cloakwood mine.

It's not much of a plan. Grond plays decoy but is hit by ranged weapons once or twice.
Posted Image

We cast doom, blindness, horror, silence and LMD. With both fighters blinded and Kysus silenced we focus on Rezdan but he summons kobolds and a wolf while mirrored. Grond and Pot have to move away from the kobolds and the darts of Kysus, and Cassia shapeshifts to deal with the kobolds. Just as we think the situation is under control we realise Pot has thrown his last dagger and moved from Grond to melee the blinded Drasus. Too late...
Posted Image

Only 2 ambushes on the way back to the temple, and 800gp to raise Pot.

Legions update 1

The crew have been fairly disciplined so far and have not yet overthrown their emperor.  I started with a traditional power-gaming tactic of buying the green scroll of protection from petrification and heading for the basilisk area loaded down with throwing axes.  Legate soloed the basilisks there, while Korax paralysed Mutamin under guidance from a stealthed Auxiliary.  That lot gave everyone 2 or 3 levels.  Centurion used his new second level spells to silence Kirian and the party there to allow them to be safely beaten up.

A brief trip to Firewine Bridge to pick up Meilum's bracers and then up to the Friendly Arm, picking up a belt and a few rings on the journey.  Then blitzed through Nashkel mines and a silent Mulahey.  The amazons, Nimbul and Tranzig were also struck dumb before the party got a lift with Teven to the bandit camp.  Legate got a nice critical there to prevent Tazok running away and Taugosz failed the doom command combination.  In the tent most attacks were initially on Venkt, but Hakt was put out of action by stinking cloud  while the others were meleed.

Since then have been working through all the outdoor areas, mainly just using weapons rather than spells or abilities.  One exception was Teyngan, who got on the wrong end of Caesar's Bhaal horror, as part payment for ending my previous party run.  Unusually for me the use of weapons did extend to killing the Doomsayer by melee rather than my normal magic missiles.

Up to just now no-one had been killed or seriously injured and I hadn't made use of any healing potions.  However, I was probably a bit tired after clearing traps out of the Firewine Ruins and didn't run away when ambushed by skeletons when trying to rest.  They nearly all targeted Vexillarius, who's the weakest link in the team, and she was unable to run quickly enough to get away before being shot down by a critical from the last arrow shot at her before all the skeletons switched to melee.

Optio, F4 / D4, 38 HPs, 129 kills
Vexillarius, Blade 6, 39 HPs, 27 kills, 1 death
Auxiliary, Bounty Hunter 6, 35 HPs, 56 kills
Caesar, Berserker 5, 57 HPs, 133 kills
Centurion, Priest of Lathander 5, 33 HPs, 39 kills
Legate, Kensai 5, 56 HPs, 110 kills

Takahiro Update

Takahiro and party left FAI, Takahiro toating a load of throwing Axes just in case. Scoured the southern map for that loot Imoen was looking for yesterday, Takahiro claimed the Ring of Protection.

Fought some minor battles, held our own againsty a pack of Dread Wolves that gained Jahiera a level. Full on loot they headed back to FAI to rest and regroup. Should have rested in the wilderness. They ran into the two wolves that had killed Imoen. Takahiro and Khalid (both injured) fell back and switched to missle weapons. Imoen let off another magic missle and Jahiera drew their attention while the missles flew. They were too fast for her and she fell just as quickly as Imoen had. Khalid was soon to follow. Imoen and Takahiro once again attempted to flee the card carrying man-eaters. He will never know if Imoen made it out alive...

Well that was a quick run! I like the character though so I'll probably import him after a spell, just need to force myself to be more carefull.

I'ma roll anouther character and see what happens for now.
