Krimlor's version of events (15)
Chanthalas Ulbright tells Krimlor to get lost, then hands a magical tome over to Blackstrider. Krimlor is not impressed and loses his temper but gains a level when Jalantha Mistmyr admits to killing a young boy. We convince Ragefast to free Abala the nymph on our way out.
With Lothander cured and a sphene gem handed to G'axir the seer we have to deal with an ogre called Larze then disrupt Marek. On to the tower of Ramazith.
Mustard jellies. Cassia gets their attention then we all magical melee.
Ghasts. Blackstrider buffs (Mirror, Shield, Aid, Spiders Bane, Defensive Spin) makes a great start. Krimlor arrives with Turn Undead - bad idea as a couple run and one hides upstairs. Grond arrives to shoot one ghast.
Hobgoblin Elite. Blackstrider uses girdle/cloak/boots to avoid arrows and draw the ghast and hobgoblins downstairs. He gulps two healing potions to stay alive and Krimlor heals him after the battle.
Kobolds. Blackstrider Mirrors, everybody else arrives once the kobolds have targeted him.
No sign of Ramazith (maybe shouldn't have freed Abala without finding him).
(short hiatus while I lose Wine and all my installs while "tweaking" something. 2 days later...)
We drop into the sewers to kill an ogre mage and his pets, then help Aldeth Sashenstar for a second time. The Seven Suns is next, allowing us to complete the tasks for Scar and obtaining an audience with Duke Eltan.
Blackstrider still can't read any books so we relent and pay Halabazzer Drin (selections and reasoning below);
- Dex : Blackstrider, now 18. Helps bow but also defence when he melees.
- Con : Krimlor, now 17. Shorty saving throws + fighter bonus.
- Int : Pot, now 16. Shaded Alesia as single class.
- Wis (2) : Krimlor, now 15. More frequent caster than Cassia.
- Cha : Blackstrider, now 16. He's in the bartering position.
Blackstrider, blade 7, 43 kills. 1 death (bandit camp, missed earlier).
Alesia, mage 5 thief 6, 29 kills. 1 death.
Grond, archer 6, 151 kills.
Cassia, were cat 7, 150 kills. 2 deaths.
Krimlor, fighter 5 cleric 5, 64 kills.
Pot, mage 6, 18 kills. 1 death.

Just drop the unziped files into the folders with the same name and start playing... I can make a special install if there is some weird mod you simply must have.

- Melicamp didn't survive
- Should've planned ahead and used Remove Fear before taking on Zordral. A melf arrow almost meant game over but thankfully Alpha held on.
- Bassilus wasn't too difficult - curiously his undead didn't collapse around him but after he was blinded he threw an entanglement at his feet and trapped his army.
- Neira wasn't too bad - she managed to confuse Beta but he was quickly blinded by Alpha so he wouldn't pose a threat.
Still to do Silke, spider home, Tarnesh, belt ogre and Gnoll Stronghold, before I consider next move.
Everyone on level 2, Beta hasn't gotten his ranger levels back yet.

After ambush headed northwards, killing hobgoblins en route.
Helped a woman being pestered by undead husband.
Agreed to help Sonner, but changed our minds after discovering the truth.
Ended up helping his adversary.
Headed south killing spiders and hobgoblins en route. Before we managed to kill the spiders, the spiders killed a Morninglord, a Morninglord guard, and a Morningmaster who had been charmed using Algernon’s Cloak
Killed Greywolf, but in process Greataxe was killed.
Headed north and killed gibberling, xvart and an ogre. At the FAI, charmed two caravan guards who were killed by Tarnesh before we disposed of him.
We then went to an area where Ankheg were swarming and killed all that we could find. We discovered that the spells, sleep, command, and protection from acid were all highly effective.
We then headed south and rescued a dog, a cat and a tree, killing a number of weak enemies on the way. We went to the Gnoll stronghold and killed those who were greedy with regard to the toll payable, and shortly afterwards killed yet more assassins. After killing numerous xvart and Gnolls, we went to High Hedge and helped Melicamp get back into shape.
We then went in search of the Sirene, thinking that Greataxe being an inquisitor would be able to deal with them single handed. It soon became clear that he couldn’t so the rest of us attacked the hobgoblins first. We were exceedingly lucky. We neglected to use the green charm bracelet, (forgetting that SCS was installed) Firehammer was charmed and attacked me leaving me with 1 HP.
We then dealt with another party of Sirene. The same thing happened, but by using Algernon’s Cloak, there was no problem. I then killed the golems and looted the cave.
Going south to Nashkel, we entered the mines. There were some assassins in there as well, but a combination of sleep, silence, holy smite and necklace of missiles meant that there was no problem. We are now exceedingly well equipped due to one of the assassins wearing excellent armour. Mulahey was no problem after he was ambushed by Firehammer, the rest of us quickly finished of both him and his minions.
We then went to Restenford after first dealing with another ambush. We were even followed there by assassins, but Molkar et al fared no better than our other opponents. We left Restenford with our gem bag, potion bag, scroll case and money belt bulging at the seams. In addition to extra equipment, we had about 70,000 gold pieces and I had an even better staff and a full spell book.

So, all was going well - Nashkel mines had been cleared, map was approx. 60% explored, but then an ambush on the way to FAI in deliver Samuel resulted in a nasty group of bandits that all trained their arrows on Alpha. A couple of hits and she was down.
Ah well, tough luck this time.

Hard luck.
As you can see from my post, I was exceedingly lucky. Being left with just 1 HP is far too close for comfort!!
I was also lucky that the party was not attacked whilst resting.
I hope to clear the basilisks next as the potions of speed that I found in Restenford means that I should be able to deal with Mutamin and the other nasties in that area before the scroll resisting petrification runs out. (They did!) Then the bandit area. With SCS installed, that is quite a challenge too, but then things get easier until the ducal palace.

Ru'in and Co took out Greywolf for Prism. Imoen got a level and Ru'in got a +2 Long Sword for thier trouble and the group claimed the purse for the missing jewels. Ajantis and Garrick both Gained levels in the mines and
Imoen helped immensely by finding traps...holistically. Returned to Nashkel to revive Imoen and then finished clearing the mines. Rescued Xan and sent Garrick to play his gig at FAI. Imoen used her fireball wand (now set to stun) on Mulahey while the group dismembered his minions…twice.
Lamalha ambushed them outside but Imoen sent a fireball into their midst. Jahiera got a little too close to the flames and fell once more. Exploring the area further, this tired group sought shelter in a cave only to wake a ghast. Fleeing, they ran into Narcillicus who didn’t like our tone. They retrated back to Nashkel again and revived Jahiera only to be attacked yet again by Nimbul (no rest for the weary). Imoen dropped him down with a fireball and Ru'in finished him off with her sword.
Rested up and healed and all the loot identified the group headed back to clean up the mess it had left and explore. They returned a dagger to the Revenant and when they finally tracked down Narcillicus he had gathered more friends! The ghast managed to hold Ru’in mid battle (she switched to her sword when she ran out of arrows automatically) and ajantis used lay on hands. Jahiera readied a healing spell but it was too late. Ru’in turned to
dust in front of their eyes.
Final Stats
Ru'in: Ranger 4, 48 HP, 223+ Kills (Vamp Wolf), Killed by Ghast while held
Imoen: Thief 4/Mage 2, 21 HP, 26+ Kills (Bentha!), 2 Death
Jahiera: FIghter 3/Druid 3, 30 HP, 39 kills (Dread Wolf), 4 Deaths
Khalid: Fighter 4, 35 HP, 38+ kills (Ankheg), 2 Death
Xan: Enchanter 4
Ajantis: Pal 3, 30 HP, 34 Kills (Ankheg), 2 Deaths

I thought I'd quickly post on my sorceress, Alicia's recent jaunt through BG1. This wasn't a super-exciting run (sorceresses are pretty straightforward in my install) but some may find it interesting nonetheless and -at the very least- you can all take it as a sign that I'm no longer sitting on a deck chair imbiding fruity beverages.
Anyhoo, here she is Alicia, Sorceress.

She actually did this twice- mostly because I wasn't entirely happy with her spellbook after the first run. I'll post on the second version since this was the one that was exported. I'll refer to the first run from time to time since some may find the differences interesting.
EDIT: The True Seeing icon comes from Alicia's personal item: Clarity of Vision. It's an Ioun Stone that grants immunity to Blindness. She had it in the second run but not the first.
Stage 1: Candlekeep to Nashkel
I've posted on a number of BG1 runs with a variety of characters. While the details differ based on class, the basic strategy is essentially the same In each. Remember Alessandra's video of the early game? That's the typical early game route: Coastway->Lion's Way (RoP)->FAI (RoW)->High Hedge (Wand of Sleep)->Nashke(Ankeg Plate)->Carnival (Pro Pet, Necklace of MIssles. That's exactly what Alicia did in her first run. In her second, I tweaked it slightly since I wanted to keep the Ring of Wizardry. That meant skipping the Wand of Sleep and therefore relying more on Blindness in early encounters...

and using an Invisibility scroll to make it to Naskel safely rather than brazenly marching with wand in tow.

After exchanging pleasantries with the Mayor, she hit the Carnival and prepped for some basilisk hunting.
Stage 2: Basilisks to Mulahey
This stage was all about collecting the EXP and items to safely knock off Mulahey. I prefer to face Mulahey at level 4 or 5 with a Potion of Freedom, the Greenstone Amulet, a Potion of Invisibility, a Potion of Fire Resistance, the Necklace of Missles, and a few blue potions.
NW: The utility of the first two items is pretty obvious (Hold Person, Feeblemindedness). The PoI and PoFR less so. Here's the idea though. Let's say Mulahey and the minions get lucky with a few criticals. Alicia's move would then be PoI. That would buy her some time, but in SCS, it would also means getting boxed in by converging foes. Heal->PoFR->Necklace of MIssles can solve that problem.
First the EXP.

Then the items. Icing Greywolf, Hairtooth, and Zal financed the much needed trip to Ulgoth's Beard where she purchasd the Greenstone Amulet and the Wand of Frost. Invisibility got her North safely.
Then Mulahey. Alicia buffed with Greenstone, Potion of Freedom, Shield, Mirror Image, Chill Touch (scroll) while wearing the Girdle of Bluntness. She then went toe-to-toe with him while using her Magic MIssles to disrupt his spells. That worked. A Necklace of MIssles blast took care of the minions.

Opps! I don't have time to finish now. I'll try to take care of the rest soon.
Cheers,
A.
EDIT: I should really note her spellbook before I go shouldn't I? Here it is- listed in order added.
Level 1: Blindness, Shield, Chromatic Orb, Magic Missle
Level 2: Invisibility, Mirror Image

I've been pottering around doing easy stuff south of the FAI and near to Beregost or Nashkel. Too many resurrections to mention, but as yet no reloads. The above shot is from an ambush featuring an ogre mage while I was returning to Nashkel, which left me pretty battered.

On the plus side, everyone but Krimlor has an enchanted melee weapon, and he'll get Basillus's hammer soonish. Here we're shopping for Alesia's +2 short sword, Strider got Prism's +2 long sword, Cassia has Silke's staff but mostly uses her claw, Pot got the Revenant's +2 dagger, and Grond got the +1 flail from the bear cave, and I bought him a +1 bow. I haven't fought the revenant yet. I did both other tombs, which damn near finished me off.
I just took out the two vampiric wolves near Beregost, which I always view as a sign I can take on some tougher fights.
Alesia 3/4, 37 kills
BlackStrider 4, 42 kills
Cassia 4, 21 kills
Krimlor 3/3, 41 kills
Pot 3, 20 kills
Grond 4, 134 kills

I have a teensy-bit of time to write now. Picking up where I left off...
Stage 3: Naskel Mines to Bandit Camp
For the Bandit Camp, Alicia wanted firepower (literally), fire resistance, missle weapon defenses, and disabler defenses- along with the ability to paralyze.
Missle weapon defenses were first on the agenda. That was bad news for Nimbul of course.
The buffs here were minimal: Greenstone, Shield and Mirror Image. The Wand of Frost was sufficient on the offensive end.
This went smootly- though Nimbul did succeed in mobbing Alicia with summons. Typically in these situations, Alicia goes Invisibility->Fire Resistance->Some flavor of explosion but with the Amnish guard nearby, Invisbility alone was enough.

Once the guard knocked off the summons, Alicia finished Nimbul with the Wand of Frost. The Boots of Avoidance were recovered and then paired with the Cloak of Displacement, the Girdle of Piercing, and -finally- the Claw of the Kazgaroth. Missle weapon defenses covered. After visiting the Felsh Golem cave for the Wand of Paralyzation and the Ankeg Lair for the Darts of Stunning, she was ready.
Core buffs here were Invisibility, Shield, Mirror Image, Greenstone, Protection from Fire, and Potion of Fire Resistance. A Potion of Regeneration and a scroll of Minor Spell Deflection provided added safety.
Stealthing into the tent, Alicia opened with Wand of Paralyzation->Dart of Stunning on Venkt. He failed his save.

Alicia then went to work- starting with her recently added level 3: Skull Trap.

A few more blasts ended the fray. Alicia took a pass on the battle outside and instead went straight to the Cloakwood.
Spellbook at this stage
Level 1: Blindness, Shield, Chromatic Orb, Pro Evil
Level 2: Invisibility, Mirror Image
Level 3: Skull Trap
Stage 4: Cloakwood to The Gate
Alicia's journey through the Cloakwood was uneventful (tends to happen when you are invisible...). And while she was caught in a Web, the spidies couldn't find their would be elven morsel.

Arriving at the Mines, Alicia immediately steathed to the Potion of Magic Shielding. Then: knock, knock. That Potion of Magic Shielding along with a full complement of elemental green scrolls would cover her consumable needs against Davaeorn.

Doo-ta-doo-ta-do...

NW: In Alicia's first run, Kysus detected Alicia and revealed her with a Divination cast. Alicia countered with Greenstone->run->Invisibility. That worked.
Into the mines. In my fastrack runs, I've been going up the middle and bypassig Rill.

Time for the Master of the Mines. With a full complement of green scrolls, a Potion of Magic Shielding, and a Wand of Frost for the Battle Horrors, Davaeorn had little hope. He made som progress with MMMs but that was it. Like his Horror's he was finished with the Wand of Frost.

Spellbook at this stage
Level 1: Blindness, Shield, Chromatic Orb, Pro Evil
Level 2: Invisibility, Mirror Image, Resist Fear
Level 3: Skull Trap, Remove Magic
Stage 5: The Return to Candlekeep
The return to Candlekeep was super-quick, super-easy. A Protection from Poison scroll mitigated the Phase Spider threat.

Pro Fire + Potion of Fire Resistance, Boots of Grounding + Potion of Insulation took care of the traps. Knock scrolls revealed the Tomes, but not the Potion of Clarity (not enough scrolls).

A Potion of Mirroreyes helped Alicia collect a big chunk of XP before heading back to The Gate.
Spellbook at this stage
Level 1: Blindness, Shield, Chromatic Orb, Pro Evil
Level 2: Invisibility, Mirror Image, Resist Fear
Level 3: Skull Trap, Remove Magic
Level 4: Teleport Field
Stage 6: The Dukes
Slythe and Kystin got the tried and true Frost breathing Jelly treatment. The only wrinle this time was the Pro Undead scroll which really left Krystin crying foul (can't say I blame her: Frost Breathing Jelly + Pro Undead is just a mean thing to do to her- she's not exactly kindly and sporting though...)

Then the Palace fight. Alicia's plan went smoothly both times. Basically it was buffs, Teleport Field x 3, Wand of Paralyzation, Darts of Stunning, Wand of Frost. The Doppes -dispersed by the Telly Field were stunned and then dropped one by one. Liia survied both times.

Spellbook at this stage
Level 1: Blindness, Shield, Chromatic Orb, Pro Evil
Level 2: Invisibility, Mirror Image, Resist Fear, Melf's Acid Arrow
Level 3: Skull Trap, Remove Magic, Melf's Minute Meteors
Level 4: Teleport Field, Stoneskins
I'll post on Sarevok soon.
Best,
A.
Btw. Glad to see you posting again Potty1!
EDIT: And yet more time... I guess I'll finish now...
Final Stage: Sarevok
For most of my characters, the Duchal Palace fight is far more challenging than Sarevok: With Alicia, less so- The Temple worried me more that The Palace in both her runs. Her endgame plan went smoothly nonethless.
The buffs here were Potion of MInd Focusing, Potion of Defense, Protection from Fire, Protection from Cold, Protection from Electricity, Protection from Acid, Potion of Magic Shielding, Oil of Speed, Protection from MIssles, Pro Evil, Shield, MIrror Image. Removing Sarevok's Haste was hurdle one. This took 3 Remove Magic casts (NW: In the first run, Alicia failed to Remove his Haste effect forcing her to go Malison-> Wand of Paralyzation).

Tactical objective 2 was taking the casters out of the action with the Wand of Frost. Semaj was first. Angelo hung around long enough to outlast Alicia's first Potion of Magic Shielding however, she had 4 of them. And when Angelo said "Cupio" Alicia took that as her cue to quaff.

Angelo falls. With the casters in the box, the Haste effects out of the action and 2 remaining Pro Missles scrolls to cover the range weapon threat, Alicia has essentially won now.

Once Diarmid andTazok joined Semaj and Angelo in death, Alicia vanished and then buffed up for a melee beatdown of the magic resistant Skeleton Warriors. Polymorph Self via scroll.

Finished with some meteors.

Just the big fella left now: Wand of Frost.

(Followed by a thwack to the head for a more dramatic endgame shot...)

Fin!
A.
Btw. Alicia has moved on to Amn. She's currently at Level 13 prepping to take down Torgal. Assuming the start save I received works, her game will be put on hold in the interest in running "The A-Team."

The day starts badly, for Jardak and Drelik the butler. Fergus takes an angel skin ring then a santuaried Krimlor talks to Degrodel. He has to leave without sanctuary so a fight outside is inevitable. A haste/slow combo allows Cassia to stand her ground while more spells and arrows are used to help defeat the various guardians.
The Undercellar fee is 10gp but Krimlor blags his way in for free. He knuckles down for an entry into the Iron Throne HQ but Blackstrider bluffs past numerous guards and we are free to buff near the fabled fifth floor.

With several enemies dead Krimlor takes over the melee. A wounded Cassia fails to notice the silenced Alai attacking as she turns into human form. Instead of casting spells she collapses to the floor. The battle is won but 800gp is spent raising the were-cat for a third time.

Quinn relieves us of Nestor's dagger before we return to Duke Eltan and then to Candlekeep where we encounter Koveras. Rieltar doesn't want to associate with drivel and attacks us. He is dead almost immediately, Kestor next and the blinded pair of Tuth and Brunos are easy targets. We are arrested, and while incarcerated Pot learns how to identify things. Once freed by Tethtoril we escape into some convenient catacombs.
Krimlor has a grumble with Alesia, asking what she's spent her time learning when a lightning trap hits her. She points out the boots of grounding and mirror images but he's still not happy. Two tomes later (both read by Krimlor) he's less grumpy and agrees to leave without fighting the undead to the north. Blackstrider has already mirror imaged with Spiders Bane though, so the area is cleared anyway.
Prat and his gang put up a good fight, and dodging a lightning bolt means the battle extends slightly. Grond is stunned by a dart and Blackstrider is confused; after the battle is concluded Krimlor stands next to Blackstrider. He dodges a couple of close-range arrows and dispels the bardic mirror images but not the confusion. A little while later the party have made good their escape.
Blackstrider, blade 7, 49 kills. 1 death.
Alesia mage 5 thief 6, 31 kills. 1 death.
Grond, archer 6, 171 kills.
Cassia, were cat 7, 176 kills. 3 deaths.
Krimlor fighter 5 cleric 6, 69 kills.
Pot mage 6, 19 kills. 1 death.

Alesia, outstanding run. Your sorceress appears to be highly skilled with strategy.

Rashad the healer laughs at Krimlor, until he realises that Alesia and Pot have emerged from invisibility and Grond is in the shadows. Krimlor waves the ogre gauntlets borrowed from Blackstrider and Rashad gulps. On the way out Grond speaks to Tamoko and we pick up some more jobs.
Slythe forces Krimlor to intervene before Cassia is killed, while Alesia points out the trap which has softened Kystin up - so that's where her thieving abilities have been diversified. Two skeletons toy with Krystin some more until Blackstrider and Grond add their arrows - the archer taking a decisive shot.
Cythandria makes the most of our carelessness, seeing Cassia then Grond killed. Three of us are confused, leaving Pot to finish Aargh and make Cythandria panic. An expensive temple visit (poor on my part).
On to the coronation. Liia and Pot are killed, but Belt survives (again felt poor on my part). After some serious shopping we head into the thieves maze which proves to be challenging given our relative lack of experience. Rahvin and his gang are spotted by Grond and subjected to entangled stinking clouds interspersed with fireballs, greater malison, arrows, silence and a solitary blindness. Tamoko must have observed this as we talk her out of a fight.
We dump some excess gear on the ground in preparation. Grond is our opening gambit, his first arrow dispelling Sarevok and a second doing the same for Angelo.

A third lands on Semaj but he re-mirrors as he teleports onto five traps. Grond dispels him again as the rest of the party take aim. Grond has been hit twice by Angelo so glugs a potion of invisibility as Semaj tumbles to the ground. Sarevok has followed Grond to the north of the temple so is left stranded.

Grond returns to glug a regeneration potion and switch to arrows of biting. He takes the boots of avoidance from Blackstrider; use of helm, rings, potion and scroll see the two of them with 100% fire resistance. Grond glugs some more potions then moves towards Angelo with Blackstrider slightly behind.

Grond cannot see Tazok and is wary of a big hit from the shadows. He and Blackstrider step back to confer while Pot mirrors to play cat and mouse. There he is...

With Tazok visible Pot retreats and Cassia tries her melee. She has to run just as Tazok is killed and glugs a regeneration potion.

We quickly swap equipment around again and consider how to deal with Sarevok. Krimlor glugs a series of potions and switches to his warhammer as Cassia transforms to human shape. Krimlor dooms Sarevok, then Pot Malisons him. Grond and Blackstrider check their arrows and add called shot & offensive spin. Alesia casts slow (worked), Pot blindness (resisted), Krimlor command (resisted) and Cassia calls a woodland being. A second command succeeds and Krimlor moves in to hit twice before Sarevok recovers and hits back.
Krimlor moves away as two nymphs and a skeleton distract Sarevok. Chromatic orbs and LMD's are added with darts +1 and bullets +2. Pot gets the final strike and Grond gets a level, well deserved for his work at the start.

Blackstrider, blade 8, 50 kills. 1 death. Jalantha Mistmyr.
Alesia mage 5 thief 6, 31 kills. 1 death. Greater Basilisk.
Grond, archer 7, 184 kills. 1 death. Angelo.
Cassia, were cat 8, 188 kills. 4 deaths.Seniyad.
Krimlor fighter 6 cleric 6, 75 kills. Slythe.
Pot mage 7, 23 kills. 2 deaths. Taugosz Khosann. & Sarevok.
Paty xp is 72500-76500, fairly low and reflecting the diect path once a few levels had been obtained. Will go straight to Amn unless anybody feels we should be doing TotSC.

New entrant:
Dmitri, Elven F/M/T
Didn't take long to roll 91, I was also quite pleased with the STR score:
STR 18/61
DEX 19
CON 17
INT 18
WIS 10
CHA 9
Spells chosen were magic missile, shield, sleep, blindness, find familiar, charm person and protection from petr. Scrolls are available in Candlekeep for armor and identify.
Katana *
Long Bow **
Two Weapon *
Invested 20 points in HiS to help out with the early stages of the game, rest in find traps.
Plan is to do as much of BG1 I can before moving on to BG2 (excluding ToSC areas, just not familiar at all), provided I survive! Starting off with FAI for ring of wizardry, calming Marl and helping Brage. All safe stuff, you would assume but I'm mainly concerned about ambushes between areas - no invis yet, so going to invest in splint mail just to give my AC a slightly better chance when travelling.

After I picked up the potion of invisibility from Jaheira, I decided a trip to the pirate cave was worth the risk. Sneak in, grab the tome, turn invisible and leave. Unfortunately on the way in, a sirine wandered aimlessly into where Dmitri was attempting to hide in shadows. I couldn't shake her off so used the potion early. As soon as I picked up the tome, I bolted for the door but didn't get far - outside the carrion crawler scored a lucky hit as I ran past and I was held. Game over.
