That didn't last long. Despite having a familiar on board his 18 HP disappeared the first time he took damage - a gibberling's claw taking his face off. I'll try again more carefully!

Wiven, halfling assassin
Final update...
Thaldorn spills the beans without Zhalimar Cloudewulfe or his mercenaries noticing Wiven. Duke Eltan immediately sends her to Candlekeep to pick up a ring from Koveras. A scroll of protection from magic helps when looting a couple of magical tomes, a ring and some other items.
Doppelgangers pretending to be Gorion and Elminster have the spittle wiped off their faces as does Prat and his gang. This all adds to the time underground but Wiven needs the practice.
Back to the city where Slythe is taught a lesson in backstabbing. Wiven just has time to hide and poison backstab a greater doppelganger before switching to arrows of piercing. A few of them chase her upstairs and the rest are shot on her return downstairs. Belt notices Liia has perished so begs for Wiven to chase after Sarevok.
The thieves maze could be safely traversed in the shadows but Wiven eliminates two doom guards then two skeleton warriors before stupidly stepping on a trap just as she notices it. A potion of absorbtion is glugged to avoid the resulting lightning bolt. This leaves one absorbsion potion spare which should be enough. Rahvin and his cronies are slipped past and then Wiven removes a couple of traps inside the temple to reduce the lightning frequency.
A shadowy arrow dispels the haste from Sarevok but Angelo and Semaj have reacted. Wiven just manages a PfM scroll in the nick of time and hides. She attacks again without thinking then manages to hide on the fifth or sixth attempt (Semaj, Angelo and Sarevok all have lines of sight to avoid). Glug glug glug sees 2 mind focusing, 1 defence, 1 speed and 1 fire potion consumed (OK - glug glug).
Back to business. Semaj. Angelo. Sarevok is in deep trouble but Wiven is wary about Tazok who can be heard but not seen. There is still no sight of him even after Sarevok collapses but no doubt he will turn up later like a bad penny,
Assassin 10, 161,630xp. 138 kills, Angelo.
Session 1 hour, 4 hours 45 minutes total.

Killian, Day 3
The Friendly Arm common room bustles with activity. Drunken songs. Bad poetry. Stale ale. No one seems aware of what just happened in the courtyard. Gorion, and now Imoen, are gone forever. I crumple into a chair, exhausted, broken. I can’t hold back the tears.
Two armored figures pull up chairs at my table. I can’t bring myself to raise my head.
“Killian?” a woman asks. I don’t look up. She has a vaguely elvish accent.
“Are you Killian from Candlekeep?” she asks again.
I tense. The last three strangers I’ve met all wanted to kill me. I don’t have anything left to stop these two from finishing the job.
“Where is Gorion?” she says. I look up at her.
“Dead,” I mutter. “Cut down in the night. If you’re here to finish the job, let’s be done with it.”
I whisper the words to strike her eyes with blindness and prepare to run for the exit, but my soul is empty. No power stirs. The elvish woman sighs and looks over at the armored man who accompanied her to my table. They both look shaken.
“We’re here to help, child,” she says.
“What can you do,” I bleat. “Gorion is gone, and that was just the start of it. Two travelers I met on the road fell to the fangs of a wolf before Imoen and I escaped. I thought that the Friendly Arm would be safe, until a mage outside ambushed us. Imoen is gone. They are gone. Leave me be.”
“We’ll protect you now,” she says earnestly. “Gorion was our friend, too.”
I shrug petulantly, pulling back my chair. With a glance over my shoulder at the armored pair, I trudge upstairs to a bed, hoping that when I wake up, I’ll discover that this has all been a dream.

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 15
After a few recent problems with saving throws we're back to a pair of shorty's here.
Grond0 is the berserker, who looks a touch clerical.

Gate70 is the fighter/cleric, who looks more than a touch berserk!

Previous multiplayer runs: 2 BG1 failures, 11 SoA failures and 1 success (with dual fighter/illusionists).
1 Nawgrim and Peer. Charname killed by trapped container in Brynnlaw
2 Nadir and Kaxir. Companion chunked by Spellhold greater mummy while in inventory!
3 Berserker and Cavalier. No link, berserker caught by 15hp rage expiry after Mirianne's ogres defeated.
4 Boor and Perry. Thaxxy chunks companion then charname
5 Scion and Cyill. Charname steps into beholder/gauth range
6 Mayse and Khazad. Charname tries to melee mind flayers
7 Bubble and Fomin. Companion imprisoned by Kangaxx while sanctuaried
8 Pendal and Thimble. Melissan is defeated, but Pendal chooses to remain with his companion
9 Bronzer and Reyna. Charname failed to account for the saving throw penalty on Finger of Death
10 Taffy and Tibbs. Charname mysteriously collapses after area transition
11 Sati and Vurro. Charname got too close to Prebek and was targeted by hold person
12 Khrang and Khrog. Charname out-pathed in the Planar Prison
13 Twinkletoe and Ether. Charname dominated in Tanova ambush
14 Stari and Maldor. Charname stunned by Tanova in vampire HQ

Interesting history run-down Grond0 - by the way, for Taffy and Tibbs, your post says you aren't sure what got you, however, I'd like to mention melf's arrow as a possible suspect - it has damage every round for variable amount of rounds, and more rounds if the caster is higher level, and that spell was definitely used by BG 1 mages. The scary part of the spell is multiple casts stack on the same target.

It's possible Corey. I seem to remember at the time that there was no spell affecting him when he transitioned (and that's why I suspected a spell followed him through the transition - I have seen that happen quite a few times in my games), but I might be wrong.

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 15 (update 1 - 1 hr 15 mins)
Tyran, gnome berserker (Grond0), & Titas Adukaars, dwarf fighter/cleric (Gate70)
The latest boys started their journeys with the intention of picking up some easy levels. That worked with Shoal - 4 flying axes disposing of her. However, things didn't go so smoothly in the basilisk area. Titas used the scroll of protection from petrification to allow him to tank the basilisks. Starting at the bottom of the map the 3 lesser basilisks all fell easily, but the greater one proved more troublesome. After taking several hits Titas tried to kite him, but a surprisingly supple basilisk neck stretched out for the fatal bite. Tyran immediately glugged a potion of speed and dodged behind a rock before the basilisk could target him.
Tyran flogged the potion of clarity from Candlekeep to get the money to raise Titas and the slightly chastened duo set off for the cloudpeaks. No problems there with some bracers of archery acquired from Zal & Vax, a belt from Caldo & Krumm and a tome of charisma from a xvart cave. Titas was also accused of feline murder by a young girl. The final action of the session was depositing the skin of a polar bear with a merchant - slightly to my surprise he did actually agree to pay us 100 XP for our trouble.
Combat stats:
Tyran, berserker 4, 40 HPs, 57 kills.
Titas, F3 / Cl 4, 41 HPs, 39 kills, 1 death.
Tyran's exceptional strength has helped his thrown axes to do a bit more damage than Titas' dual-wield hammers so far. That's likely to change later on when Titas gets hold of boots of speed and the tome of strength.

Serge the wild mage eventually came to a sticky end, though not directly through his own incompetence. He had explored most areas and was progressing through the Cloakwood having racked up a pretty respectable 29 wild surges without killing himself. Attacking the spider nest he let off a skull trap and then ran for it - leading a couple of sword spiders back to the entrance point on the map and then down to the southern edge. With them still chasing he came back to the entrance point and found himself webbed in the middle of a magic missile spell; although the giant spiders from the nest hadn't seen him since he left there they were obviously able to follow the trail of their brother spiders.

Here's a melange of some of the better looking effects from the surges. The top left one was notable as being the nearest to killing him, as well as for generating 2 surges from successive spells. I did see the cow falling down, but unfortunately didn't manage to get a screenshot of that.

Edit: I think ctrl+ works on most browsers to expand the image size if anyone wants to study the text.

Killian, Day 4
“O Watchful Protector, we entrust this young lady into your care,” said Gellana Mirrorshade, perched on the edge of the altar where Imoen’s lifeless body lay. “Welcome her soul into your eternal communion of laughter.”
The audience for the funeral is small. I stand near the center of the Glittergold temple. Jaheira and Khalid kneel respectfully behind me. A few of the guards who had tried to protect us from the assassin stand uncomfortably in the back of the hall.
The service ends in silence. Gellana motions to the guards, and they lift Imoen’s limp form and carry her away.
I blink tears from my eyes.
“I’m so sorry for your loss, Killian,” Jaheira says, standing.
“I wish there were more I could have done,” I mumble. “During our training sessions, Gorion told me that the world outside Candlekeep was violent and unfair. Still, I can't accept this. She was so young.”
“The world is ugly, and beautiful,” Jaheira said. “It is cruel, and it is kind. And most of all, it is indifferent to our suffering.”
“But we ourselves are not indifferent,” said Khalid. “Honor to Imoen. She will be missed."
I turn and leave the temple. The druid and warrior follow behind.
“Killian, I want you to join us,” said Jaheira. “We are going to Nashkel, to investigate the extent of the iron shortage. If we can figure out what is causing it, we might be able to use that information to alleviate a great deal of unnecessary suffering.”
“I don’t know,” I mumble. “I don’t feel ready to be out in the world. I’d like to go back to Candlekeep, but the Avowed won’t have me without Gorion. Maybe I can stay here, at the Friendly Arm. Practice harnessing my powers. Gain strength to better protect my friends. I'm not ready.”
“That won't work,” Khalid interjected. “You showed us the note that assasin was carrying. You are a target. The Friendly Arm is not safe. The only safety lies in numbers.”
“He’s right,” said Jaheira. “Come with us. We’ll look after you. I promise.”
I shrug, then nod.

Killian, Day 4, part 2
“Is this the man that bard in the Friendly Arm was talking about?” I say, poking with my staff at a pair of boots sticking out from the bushes. "He said a bearded mage was looking for rings in the forest outside the walls, despite the fact that bandits and wolves are about."
“I don’t know,” Jaheira says. “But it looks like things certainly went poorly for this one.”
I push the bushes aside. The man is dead, a black-feathered arrow piercing his chest. I notice a scroll in his hands.
"I mean no disrespect," I say, as I slide the srcoll from his fingers. "May you rest in peace."
I realize that I can make out the lettering, and I have some sense of what the spell will do. Although there was not nearly enough time, I did learn something from Gorion.
“Safety lies in numbers, right?” I say.
“Yes, as this unfortunate fellow likely learned the hard way,” Khalid says.
“Well then, watch this,” I say. I read the words from the scroll aloud, concentrating their power. The air begins to shimmer, forming lines. The lines in the air wrap around themselves, forming a small body. Wings sprout. Teeth grow. Its eyes open.
“Hello, master,” it says.
“Hello,” I say with some surprise. "Who are you?"
“Your faithful servant, master,” it says. “I am called Fizik.”
Jaheira whistles softly. “A faerie dragon. Now that’s a neat trick, Killian. Well done.”

Noora, half elf wild mage
Without the guidance of Gorion my spellcasting has suffered. Nothing too dangerous yet.

I start with Shield and Larlochs Minor Drain and soon learn ghoul touch. Caldo and a cave bear fall victim to this but a belted ogre has to be left wounded while Krumm takes my entire spellbook plus an entire Wand of Missiles.

I return Melicamp to High Hedge (dies) and learn two new spells, strength and mirror image.
Inventory and record.

Noora, half elf wild mage
(still gold-coloured through this session)
Second time lucky against the belted ogre, starting with a few LMD’s. Casting strength surges into strength: 24. Combined with mirror images andghoul chill touch the poor ogre doesn’t last long.
Oublek makes an honest mistake as Noora heads to the temple for a remove girdle of gender curse. 500gp is the sort of price that makes you careful not to get cursed too often.
168gp is required to re-purchase a ring for Joia which was sold by mistake. Tarnesh scares Noora after she manages two strengthened chill hits and two LMD’s, but his Magic Missiles are foiled by a Shield spell and a rapid recovery sees a final LMD kill the mage assassin.
Telling Khalid and Jaheira to go away is a bad idea; Jaheira swishes off with her potion of invisibility. They refuse to talk further so Noora heads upstairs to launder some pantaloons.
Two lesser basilisks are killed, Tamah freed and two more lesser basilisks killed. One slight hiccup, but after a rest more basilisks are encountered. After killing a greater basilisk Noora runs from a remaining lesser basilisk as she cannot remember how long her PfP has been active. On her return a PfP casting goes horribly wrong (as does the screenshot : flesh to stone, save made with 18. Edit, just found it - here) but after resting and a couple more hiccups she gets it right and finishes two more lesser basilisks. Another rest is taken before heading up to a bear-gazing basilisk, then Noora decides to leave the remaining two basilisks and Mutamin until she has suitable spell protections.
Noora clears an entire xvart village to get to Borda. 25gp for a scroll that turns out to be cursed (identified for 100gp, sold for 150gp so still 25gp profit). A few scrolls are purchased; remove fear, skulltrap and identify. The first two of these means Mutamin is due a visit and the last of his living sculptors can be eliminated.
On to the carnival where Zordral is LMD disrupted followed by a quarterstaff swing several times before Noora swings one too many times with her staff, too slow to LMD. The tables turn and her next two spells are disrupted by him. She casts a chill touch and puts him on ice.

I thought he explained that - he guessed
In our multiplayer setup I've just checked (step forward beastmaster called Target) and a critical is 78 (triple damage). The screenshots showing quadruple damage indicate the modded version has significantly more bite.

Killian met his doom in the form of 4 arrows of ice to the face. I'm certain it was one of those mods I foolishly introduced to my rig. I am reinstalling BGT, without any BG1 quest mods. Keeping scs, item randomizer, bg spawn, and hard times. We'll see if I can give myself a chance of making it past Beregost.

I thought the most damage he could do would be 67
How did you arrive at this number?
Not a pure guess. I saw backstabs of 47, 55 and 59. Although I don't know what bonuses Slythe had if 47 equated to base damage of 1 then 59 would be base damage of 4, which means the maximum possible for a shortsword would be 67 (base damage of 6).Gate70 wrote...

Hard luck Blind_Visionary. Sounds like an encounter with Black Talons - their ice arrows are pretty vicious.

Luck didn't have much to do with it. It was a mod called askaria. It put a bunch of outlaws in beregost. Plus scs targeting, which is vicious. I probably have broken my game in other ways as well. Oh we'll, as long as we all remain entertained... I'll give it another go.
