I played around with Fael, a dwarf barbarian, after Bruce was killed yesterday and, rather to my surprise, he's confounded his name by making it through BG1.

He did the vast majority of his fighting with dual-wielded axes and was only allowed to use healing potions that had been found while adventuring.  Given how easily barbarians can be hit that meant he needed to rest a lot and there were at least 2 occasions when he could easily have been killed if he had been interrupted while resting.  He was lucky in defeating Kirian's party in the basilisk area when he finished off the last 2 opponents while down to 7 HPs with no healing left (both were casters though, so trying to use spells rather than hit him).

Apart from that the most difficult fight I think was getting to Daveorn.  Fael struggled to kill the first battle horror and was badly wounded himself (and nearly out of healing potions) with the second still only badly wounded.  Having come that far I was a little less willing to see Fael die, so led the horror upstairs and gave it the slip.  Two potions of magic blocking picked up on his travels allowed Fael to kill Daveorn with a few HPs still to spare.

No more risks taken thereafter, though Liia was killed and Belt took a number of hits at the palace.  For the final fight with Sarevok Fael slowed him down with a dispelling arrow and then carried on shooting at him to get him to badly wounded.  My feeling was that, with the support of potions, Fael should be able to finish him off in melee from that point - and that proved to be the case.

Here are his final stats on reporting back to Duke Belt.

Yep, he's dead & Grond0 is right about the druid spell used to summon a woodland being before shapeshifting. They last longer than the wolf/dog summons and can be a real boon.

I think I have a vanilla BG2 install without fixpack on my Linux partition, will check behaviour there and report back.
edit, although the shapeshifter seems to move a bit smoother he still stops for about 3 seconds when hit and loses the electric resistance after shapeshifting.

edit2, nice run Grond0. What's with the 18 con modifier?

n.b. Engor will be demonstrating Slowkai after a test against diseased gibberlings; He uses Kai then waits about 3 seconds so his aura is partially clear and will be near-ready for another selection if the first attack fails. Typically used when the greenstone amulet may be needed.

“It’ will be a classic adventure like the good old days” says Gorion. “Danger at home, loss of a close relative” (waves finger at Imoen) “grow up quickly as a result” (raises hand from Engor’s head to 2cm above Engor’s head which is about waist height on Gorion) “then die gloriously” (points at Engor) "so I can return to Candlekeep".

It didn’t quite turn out like that though, and Engor is soon on the run. Various definitions of on the run;
- "Impress the lads" (Marl, Firebead, Brage, Samuel, Melicamp, Oublek)
- "Show off to the ladies" (Joia, woodland dyrad, Drienne, Tamah). Reputation should be above 20 already.
- Getting a girdle of piercing to complement the girdle of bluntness.
- Dealing with a basilisk infestation after a carnival visit.
- Charming a ghoul into helping against Mutamin (1 spell disrupted & dead without Korax hitting).
- Beating the wotsits out of Neville the bandit (long sword +1).
- Smashing the doo-dah out of Greywolf the bounty hunter (Varscona long sword).
- Retrieving an engraved dagger (Nestor) from an ankheg.
- Buying the latest cloak and necklace fashions from Ulgoth’s Beard.
- Deal with Silke (get potions of defence and invulnerability).
- Sil, five sirines and three flesh golems (tome of bodily health regeneration).
- Help Ardrouine (level 7) then clear the area of hobgoblins, wargs and wolves.
- Hit Mulahey as he runs round a pool, kill his minions. Track him down and Slowkai scare him,
- Slowkai Nimbul (would run & use amulet if he successfully mirrored).

1 close call so far; a series of ambushes and interrupted sleeps took hp down to 5. Hp rolls have been reasonably good with one 8 and the rest 11-14 from memory.

Engor, kensai 7. 88hp, 151 kills, greater basilisk.

Tranzig manages Armour, Melf Acid Arrow and Magic Missile. At the bandit camp Ardenor Crush and Taugosz Khosann laugh at Engor until he chops their legs off so he can behead them. Venkt and his cronies are killed without any buffs (if Venkt had survived the initial attack things would have been very different).

A potion of freedom is used in Cloakwood (saved against 2 of the three traps but 3rd would have got him).  Laskal hands over a potion of invulnerability before Engor reaches the secret mine. Drasus is invited to fight alone, hence he dies alone although Engor has glugged three healing potions (ended with 56hp so could have used none but would have been risking a critical).

Engor swaps boots and rests before suckering Genthore out too, chunking him with 36hp left. Amulet charge 1 is followed by a kai charge, reaching Kysus in time to disrupt his dimension door and chunking him with a second hit. Rezdan has mirrored but they don’t last long. A few guards are dealt with but one extra turns up to be killed. Engor can see another so attacks without thinking (oh no not again) and without a rebound is lucky to escape with his life - unlike a few others.

He returns with a few potions required for Hareishan and the remnants of her guards. The next group of guards manage one hit between them, then two battle horrors are dealt with. Engor glugs a potion to block magic for 5 rounds and almost kills Davaeorn but the mage re-mirrors as the potion expires. Engor uses amulet charge 2 and completes the job.

Engor, kensai 7. 88hp, 223 kills, greater basilisk.

Indeed. If there is one thing I know, it is that I don't know everything. And if I know noticeably more than nothing, it is because I know that one thing well.
There is always more to learn. :)

Best of luck everyone!

Claw of Kazgoroth.  Although not needed in BG1 I find it can be helpful in the early stages of BG2 - in my current run it was replaced quite soon with Ring of Gaxx.

Diary of Dark Authlim, a Drow Authlim of Iyacthu.
Str 18, Dex 19, Con 17, Int, 17, Wis 18, Cha 9.

I was attacked by Mendas and due to an item he was wearing, he was able to hurt me badly. However he died and now I have it.
Image IPB

I used the item in the battle against Firebead. It protects against most mind spells. :)

Image IPB

I used the same item against him in Beregost. Presumably he had been raised by the temple.

Image IPB

Diary of Dark Authlim

It will come as no surprise to you that as a Drow I am a cleric of an evil god. What might surprise you is that I am an Authlim of Iyachtu Xvim rather than a follower of Loth. Gorion has tried his best to get me to choose a better path, but so far I have resisted his attempts. However I am not altogether happy with my choice, so his teaching has certainly made an impact on me.

I will start my story just before I left Candlekeep when no fewer than three assassins tried to murder me. They were well equipped for their attacks, one carrying a rod of terror and a ring of human influence to protect himself from the dangers of using the rod. The other was carrying a powerful Ankh of acceptance that also protects against mind control. When I put it on, I discovered that whilst it raised my Wisdom, enabling me to cast an extra spell, it also lowered my constitution with the result that whilst wearing it, I have two fewer hit points. It also has the effect of making me of true neutral alignment, and it is this effect perhaps that has caused me to question my life choices.

As well as killing the assassins, I also killed an old man called Firebead and two trainers, Jondalar and Erik. The result of this is that I became a level three cleric before leaving Candlekeep. :)

After leaving Candlekeep, we were attacked by more assassins who actually killed Gorion who died trying to protect me. This had a dramatic effect on me and has caused me to question my choices even more. I was also attacked by gibberling, wolves and dread wolves. I managed to kill them all, but it became necessary to rest before continuing. Once again I was attacked, this time by xvart, dire wolves and wolves. I prevailed, but needed to rest, but was attacked by yet another wolf. Having no spells left I ran to the Friendly arms inn where I rested successfully. I then headed northward killing hobgoblins on the way and killed a woman’s undead husband. The reward she gave me was not sufficient in my opinion, so I helped myself to her coffers afterwards. Helping her raised my level once more. In six days I have gone from level one to level four!:)

I then agreed to help some fishermen, but later decided to help their enemy instead. That way I gained everything and more than they offered me and the prospect of a reward from the priestess in the future.

Heading southward I came across Joia and returned her ring before going to another area where I picked up a cloak belonging to Gurke. In Beregost I tried to return it, but he didn’t want it. I ran into a rather aggressive drunk called Marl but managed to calm him down. I then met up with Firebead again and did another errand for him. He must have been resurrected at the temple. Once more I killed him, so I hope that he had the funds for another resurrection. That way I’d be able to kill him again and get yet more experience!

I ran into a party of spiders in another house which I immediately vacated to give myself room to fight from a distance. I killed one, but two of them followed me into an inn and even followed me upstairs. So much for those Morninglords! They did absolutely nothing to help. I therefore charmed Algernon. He fought one spider whilst I killed the other. I was so glad that I didn’t have to fight them both at once! Sadly Algernon got killed before I had a chance to kill the other spider. Upon picking up Algernon’s cloak, I discovered that it was even better than my ring regarding charming. I wonder why he didn’t use it on the spider?

Outside the last of the spiders attacked me so I used the cloak to charm a Morningmaster, a Morninglord and a Morninglord guard. They were even more useless than I thought as they didn’t even protect themselves which meant that I had to kill the spider myself. At least I got a good sling and armour out of the fight.:)

Heading north, I killed an ogre with a belt fetish before heading towards Nashkel. I met up with two ogrillon who, due to my new sling and armour were no match for me. Heading further south I met a Flaming Fist Mercenary who I charmed in order to fight some assassins who had attacked me. He got held by one of the assassins and I was fortunate that I was able to kill him before being held myself. The other assassin then killed the guard, coming out of the shadows in order to do so. One shot from my sling killed her.:)

I returned to Beregost to rest and give some good news to a woman there. She gave me a ring of protection as a reward.

In another inn I was attacked by an assassin who was no match for me. One of the patrons wanted me to find his sword for him. Apparently, it had been “acquired” by a Gnoll. I killed the Gnoll and his friends before setting of south where I killed a wolf and met up with Melicamp who I got back into shape.

Engor : LG male dwarf kensai
Baldur’s Gate is open for business so Engor sells a pile of loot, grabs some items from Beregost and retrieves two magical tomes. Ramazith’s tower looks interesting so Engor uses a ring of invisibility to go up, and the boots of speed (plus spacebar) to come back down.

He spends 25000gp in Sorcerous Sundries (reputation 20, charisma 17) which means potions for every occasion and protection from magic scroll for a couple of other occasions.

Scar grants an audience with Duke Eltan and Engor starts his scroll/potion timer on the fourth floor of the Iron Throne HQ. With 3000xp to go before level 8 the waiting mercenaries are about to find out what a buffed kensai can do, hopefully. Engor takes a deep breath, several glugs and prepares to start on the fighters and finish with the casters.
Image IPB

Off to Candlekeep, still buffed and reasonably injured (having glugged 3 healing potions during the battle). A brief word with Koveras is all that is left before being arrested by the Gatewarden (the gate is outside if he hasn’t noticed). A final taunt to Ulraunt is managed before Tethtoril releases Engor into the secret library. A potion of regeneration is glugged as Phlydia approaches and reveals herself as a doppelganger. A few moments later Engor has looted three tombs and chunked a Dreppin doppelganger plus others pretending to be Elminster and Gorion.

Prat and his gang are treated to greenstone amulet charge 3 then a pair of phase spiders get their legs pulled off before a potion of mirrored eyes seals the fate of two greater basilisks. The amulet wears off as Engor emerges into daylight to rest twice (2 x DUHM). The oil of speed was still active so Engor knows that from Zhalimar Cloudewulfe to Diarmid took less than 5 turns.

A few items are stored near Black Lily (ready for the undercity) then Engor checks what he needs for Slythe and the coronation. Liia is killed but Belt survives (Engor gets himself hemmed in so glugs a healing potion but Sarevok bottles it first). Belt sends Engor after Sarevok but there is time to grab the stored equipment.

The thieves maze is a cinch - the final skeleton warrior landing one hit for 9 damage. Rahvin and his gang have again forgotten to guard all paths and Sarevok takes two oils of fiery burning before reacting. Angelo is ahead of him so Engor uses a protection from magic scroll - seeing all his buffs removed but worth the safety net as he lands a decent hit. Sarevok closes in but is too late to save Angelo from a second hit that demonstrates why helmets are a good idea.

Semaj comes out to play too so Tazok may be around somewhere. Engor leads Sarevok around while glugging potions and trying to attack Semaj. Bats keep getting in the way so Engor is pleased to see Semaj drop a couple of fireballs. A few more hits and he is dead, with no sign of Tazok it seems safe to try some melee with Sarevok.

The first stand sees Engor injure Sarevok but he has to run in case a critical hit is returned. He glugs a potion and returns briefly while the kai is active, taking 21 damage but returning 27+1. Another solid stand follows, and Engor glugs some more potions on the run. His supply is running low (6 left) but blood is pouring out of Sarevok’s armour as he approaches death, so Engor tries a third stand.

Honlann the level 3 Human mage enters trilogy no-reload challenge...

@Gate70: Grats on taking down Sarevok yet again. You got down to a science it seems.

Honnlann made some progress, so entering him in the challenge. My last run was fighter dualed to mage, this time it's mage dualed to fighter at level 7. He's a specialist so should get 2 level 4 spell slots, main idea is to get a lot more pips with the fighter levels, plus saves/thac0 as well. His buffs will be almost exclusively defensive (hence why I chose illusionist). Here's hoping levels 8 and 9 get good HP rolls, only time will tell.

For me at least, being a mage in BG 1 is rather risky business, so he has two meat shields covering for him. Joshua is an undead hunter again, while this time Hanna is a much more durable berserker. Paja is a cleric/theif again as well. Will be a 4 man team in BG 1, but intend to recruit a mage in BG 2.

Setup
TotSC expansion
Vanilla Easytutu
buff potions don't stack
Core rules at all times, including level ups and spell memorization

Honlann Character Sheet
Image IPB
* Dagger

Joshua the Human Undead Hunter
** Long Sword
** Sling
* Two-Hand Sword

Hanna the Gnomish Berserker
** Axes
*** Two Weapon Style

Paja the Gnomish Cleric/Thief
* Club
* Sling

Adventure to date:
* Cleared initial Candlekeep Wilderness map, except one group of bears. The first group gave us so much trouble (a lot of potion gulping) that we decided the other group just wasn't worth it.
* Whenever Honlann runs out of throwing daggers, the party returns to High Hedge to get some from skeletons.
* All quests in Beregost done except Silke. Only ran into any trouble on one, dealing with Karlat the assassin. The party was mostly level 2, and despite Hanna using berserk and Joshua a haste potion, Karlat still managed to kill Joshua before Paja could get a heal in - and of course Karlat himself died a 1/2 second later....grrr. The only death of the run so far.
* Joshua using Ankeg (pretty vital with his bad DEX), Hanna plate mail for now.
* Sleep used extensively if enemies are susceptible, else blindness...blindess has mostly been saved against though.
* Grewolf fell to the might of the party, mainly because of blindness
* Landrin's spider problem was solved, though we did encounter an assassin on the way to her - the assassin died instantly, Hanna got a critical taking Tarnest out in one hit.
* DEX gauntlets obtained for Joshua
* Belt of Piercing obtained for Honlann, the ogre failed his save to both command and blindness, poor guy...

We intend to visit an Xvart Village to obtain bracers for Honlann, get necklace of missiles and then deal with the Nashkel Mine problem. Feel pretty good about the run so far, and not hating my mage (I often find mages boring). He's level 3 with 20 HP, which for a mage is pretty good.

Information:
Joshua - 34 HP, 91 kills
Hanna -  40 HP, 115 kills
Paja - 20 HP, 27 kills
Honlann - 20 HP, 21 kills

And now for something completely different....

Ashanti, Elven Beastmaster

Image IPB

Proficiencies: Quarterstaves, Shortbows, Darts, Two-Handed Weapons Style
Familiar: Winston- Tutu Fairy Dragon with Wolf animation

Comments: Some of you may remember my Beastmaster, Ashanti. She was one of the first characters I ran following my multi-year break. Ashanti fared well in BGI and early SoA, but fell in the Unseeing Eye quest when I was completely blndsided by a sticky-fingered SCS Smarter Beholder who stole the Shield of Balduran out of her hands. Since then, the thought of giving her another shot at the Trilogy has popped into my head a few times. Now's her chance. Wish her luck!

Ashanti has already defeated Sarevok and will begin her adventures in Amn soon.

Woof!
Image IPB

I'll post some of the highlights (and lowlights) of her Sword Coast adventures soon.

Best,

A.

Good luck Alesia, Corey.

Mael, half-elf shapeshifter

The last shapeshifter I ran had problems both with movement and persistence of buffs with the werewolf shape.  I installed just the shapeshifter component of SCS to see if that would help.  Movement is certainly a lot better, though still seems a fraction jerky.  Also I've tested buffs up to level 4 spells and they seem to be carrying through OK, though it's no longer possible to use flame blade as a werewolf.

I started the game just as a test really, but Mael's HP rolls so far have been good, so I will probably keep her going to see if she can make any mark in BG2.  She took a few risks at level 1 and 2 where her fighting abilities are poor, but hasn't done since.  She's just finished killing the basilisks in Mutamin's area (potion of intelligence allowing her to read a green protection scroll).

She's now at level 7 and has triggered the first major upgrade in shapeshifter abilities:
- AC changing from 0 to -5
- 2 attacks rather than 1
- movement speed increase
- strength 19 rather than 18(76)
- 20% rather than 10% magic resistance
those changes should combine to make melee combat much easier (in fact she has just tested them out by beating Greywolf in hand to paw combat).

Here's her character record after the upgrade.

Ashanti, Elven Beastmaster: Candlekeep to the Chateau

Ok. Here's some lightning coverage of Ashanti's travels through the Sword Coast.

Stage 1: Candlekeep to Nashkel

Ashanti went with a slight variation on my characters' standard fast-track route: Coastway->Lion's Way (RoP)->FAI (RoW)->High Hedge (Wand of Sleep, Pro Undead, Arrows +1)->Nashke(Ankeg Plate)->Carnival (Pro Pet, Necklace of MIssles->Undead Area->Basilisks Area.

She had some fun with Charm Animal in the early going.
Image IPB

Stage 2: The Carnival to Mulahey

After taking care of Revenant, she went about raising funds to finance her shopping trip to Ulgoth's Beard. She actually had a bit of a scare in the early going when she was pinned by Gnarl and Hairtooth near one of the bridge support poles (The physics of that area is a little funny).
Image IPB

Mulahey was taken down under Potion of Freedom and Greenstone as per usual.
Image IPB

Stage 3: The Bandit Camp to The Gate

The Bandit Camp went fairly smoothly, though Ashanti was forced to fight much of the battle Blind thanks to a spell from Venkt.
Image IPB

In the interest of saving gold (and thus time) Ashanti went Pro Magic at the Mines.
Image IPB
Image IPB

Stage 4: The Gate

The second ProMagic scroll was used against Kristin. Ashanti's hitpoint total -buffed into triple digits with a Potion of Power and Draw of Holy Might- kept her safe from Slythe.
Image IPB

NW: I don't have any screenshots fromt the Duchal Palace, but that went smoothly. Belt and Liia both survived.

Stage 5: Sarevok

Standard strategy here. Semaj->Angelo->Diarmid->Tazok->Sarevok.
Image IPB

Finished Sarevok in Wolf form via cloak for style points (which are not easy to come by as a Beastmaster...)
Image IPB

Final Character Record
Image IPB

Ashanti will move onto Amn this evening.

Best,

A.

Mael failed at the final hurdle. I was trying to get her through without ever using any type of healing / antidote potion, which was easy enough for most of the way, but proved a constraint against Sarevok.

Use of a couple of invisibility potions caused Sarevok to kill Angelo and Semaj when caught in their fireballs. I then tried to get Sarevok caught in traps. However, he was pretty lucky to never fail his saving throw while going round and round in a web (doomed for some of the time) and the centre traps did Mael more damage with spikes than Sarevok with skull traps (and his healing ability from spells was quite limited).

I had earlier made a crucial error at the Cloakwood mine when failing to pick up the boots of speed, which meant Sarevok was moving at the same speed as Mael and it was therefore difficult to get space to shoot him. I did spend quite a long time doing so anyway and got him to badly wounded, but was tiring and eventually cut a corner too much and his 2-handed sword stretched out to end the game.

Honlann the level 7 Illusionist (inactive) > Level 5 Fighter continues his adventure...Update 2
Honlann fighter proficiencies: Two-Hand Sword *****

Honlann continues his adventure. Most of the sword coast has been cleared. Events of note:

* Nashkel Mines problem has been solved. Two powerful warriors were laying into Mulahey as well as magic missiles from Honlann and Paja (wand) were way too much for him. What's funny is I went to Nashkel and didn't see Nimbul, but the Mayor gave me credit for solving the Mine?! Hmm...oh, forgot to loot the letters! So we trudged through the mine again and back out, and had our battle with Nimbul - he got a bit unlucky as Hanna got huge hits on him despite his mirror images, and he fell without further incident.
* Basislisk area cleared. Joshua did most of the work, but the party assisted with the Waterhaven party (the enemy party all failed their save vs. silence) and with Mutamin. After looting everything the protection from petrification spell was still active on the party (except Joshua who is using the 12-hour scroll) so the party assisted with nearby basilisks - but right when we started our attack the protection from petrification wore off! Hanna was in the lead, everyone but Joshua quickly retreated. Hanna got his with two gaze attacks but she saved each time! This is why I made her a gnome...Joshua got to work and cleared the rest of the area without further incident.
* Durlag's Tower surface and portions of the interior cleared, partly for the easy experience with the basilisks and also the wisdom tome for Paja. Only problem of note is I usually skip the ground floor, but couldnt remember if there was anything - only 4 gold and a trap on the floor that killed Paja! Doh! So we resurrected her, got heal potions, and was a bit more careful for the rest of the tower. We withdrew after getting the wisdom tome.
* Hanna cleared the Sirenes with the help of the greenstone amulet. Honlann got level 7 illusionist on the first sirene map, time to dual. However, I waited to dual until Beregost for safety reasons. I really want him to melee in BG 2, and can't use axes as Hanna is using those, Joshua long swords. Therefore, Hanlann did **** for two-hand sword, though most of the time is using a composite bow (because of his current 35 HP), despite not being proficient with that weapon. Nevertheless, he's a solid contributor. He will get full plate once we hit the bandit camp.
* Bandit Camp - no problems here. Khosann got doomed and held, but it didn't look he wasn't going to survive anyways, there a lot of enemies about so for safety used strength potions on both front-liners, and they mowed down all the enemies in the area pretty fast. The Tazok's Tent was no problem since yet again Hanna got a hit on a mage with their mirror images up, though her 3 attacks per round may have something to do with that.
* Ankheg Map - Hanna put away her 2nd axe and donned a shield for this portion, and she and Joshua tanked very well. Honlann never even got attacked, though I did have him at -8 vs. missiles for safety reasons.

The fighters are level 7, Paja is level 6 cleric/level 7 thief, 100% trap/lock

Info:
Joshua - 72 hp, 560 kills
Hanna - 63 hp, 472 kills
Paja - 38 hp, 88 kills
Honlann - 35 hp, 111 kills -- it's funny that Honlann will get more kills as a fighter than as a mage (61), despite using a non-proficient weapon for the almost the entire time!

Well done Alesia.

Dark Authlim was doing well and cleared the Nashkel mines easily.

He was at the experience cap, so after buying potions to help, went in search of Drizzt.

He started well using Barbarian rage plus fire protection against demon knights.

Drizzt used stealth to wear down the tanari.

Image IPB

Belhifet was more of a problem due to that +5 poison dealing sword of his.

Image IPB

Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of Merileth enabled a swift successful battle.

Image IPB

The party then moved on to the Icewind Dale part of the saga.

This was fine we killed all sorts of beasties including a few cyclops.

Image IPB

The following battles were fierce but we prevailed until the room before the meeting with Catti Brie.

There poison from the spiders plus spells from the battlemages and powerful fighters spelled our doom.

Sadly no photo. :(

It took several reloads before I was able to prevail and after that the room where Catti was was a walkover. However that was not in a no-re-load game and I started two more games. They'll be in another post.

Sorry about the lack of quality in two of the screenshots. I forgot to trim! Not very wise! :(

Although the run ended, reducing the power of the party by making the Drizzt Party the same level as Dark Authlim made the game much more challenging and hence more enjoyable.

I certainly enjoyed the run.

I then tried a halfling Inquisitor run and didn't get outside Candlekeep. It was that thief Mendas with the improved equipment that I gave him that finished the game before it had started. :(

I then tried another Halfling Inquisitor

Mendas still has the amulet that he had in the Dark Authlim game. In that game, the amulet made Dark a better person, but in this one it made Titch worse!

Str 17, Dex 19, Con 18, Int 11, Wis 13, Cha 17

Proficiencies ** in Short Swords and ** in Sword and Shield style.

The proficiencies for role playing purposes.

Unlike the previous game, we fought with Mendas AFTER going to the training room. The oil of speed was still active with the result that Mendas fell quickly. :)

I put on the amulet that Mendas was wearing with the result that I did something that I would not previously have considered.

I killed Firebeard!!

Keep up the evil work Wise!

Fertig, halfling fighter/thief

I thought I would have one more run to see if I can keep it together.  I'm on holiday this week, so theoretically should have the opportunity for rapid progress.

Fertig has taken 2* in longswords and shortbows to start with.

Fertig - fighter/thief

Right, that's the easy part out of the way; Fertig was pretty mean to the opposition and never in real trouble.

He used stealth / missiles early on until he'd collected a few levels and then went to the basilisk area to get a few more.  Unusually for me Korax actually managed to paralyse all Lindin's party there - although that was made much easier by Fertig guiding his actions under stealth.

Mulahey died from a backstab, hide, backstab combination before Fertig moved on to the bandit camp.  He used a fire giant strength potion for a bit of extra oomph there, allowing him to get his only 3 figure backstab of the run.  He was a bit unlucky in the main tent - missing Venkt with a backstab and failing to hide again.  That forced him to use a potion of firebreath and nip back out of the door to avoid a horror before finishing things off (he never made it to Ulgoth's Beard and had used the potion of clarity to acquire the tome at Durlag's Tower).

After stealthing through the Cloakwood he attracted Drasus away from the others and used a potion of absorption to beat him up.  The others there were left alone while Fertig sneaked down to Daveorn.  A series of stealth shots and hiding used his spells up before finishing him off in melee.

There were no game critical errors this time, but there was one rather costly one when I accidentally sold Daveorn's evil mage robe rather than identifying it.  There was also another near miss when I was nearly at the end of the maze on the way down to Sarevok before remembering that I hadn't got the constitution tome yet and also needed to rest to get the final Bhaal power.

There was no messing about with Sarevok this time.  He was attracted out by a dispelling arrow in his guts and then treated to a series of backstabs until he finally gave in to the inevitable.

Here's Fertig's record on arrival in Irenicus' dungeon.  Note the high dexerity and intelligence (both base 19).  That's the result of mind focusing potions - the 12 hour duration of those is sufficient that they are still active at the end of the travel to Amn.

As a true neutral inquisitor Titch continues to do a combination of good and bad deeds.

He went to Beregost, helped Marl and Firebead, but then killed Firebead.

Image IPB

He was attacked by spiders and enlisted the help of Algernon who sadly died. :(

After picking up Algernon's cloak, he charmed a number of good guys. A Morningmaster, a Morninglord and two Morninglord guards. They were all rubbish fighters and died! :( He ended up having to kill the spiders himself.

Sad though it was, he ended up with some good armour, weapons and shields, enough to open a shop! :)

He went to the Friendly Arms Inn and enlisted the aid of some Caravan Guards to kill Tarnesh. :)

He then killed the guards.

He helped Perdue get his sword back, helped the Dudley family, and helped Alanna's neighbour.:innocent:

Then helped Melicamp, an Archaeologist and Brage, :innocent: but killed Brage's sister.

None of his evil deeds led to loss of reputation however, even when he killed Noober!

He refused a reward in Nashkel that he wasn't supposed to get. :innocent: He helped Prism with the help of Galtok.:innocent:

But then he killed Galtok!

At the carnival he killed Zordral :innocent: but failed to save his victim .

With the help of the Great Gazib, he killed ogres and kobolds near the carnival. :innocent: But he then killed the Great Gazib!

Warning! Never put on an item that changes your alignment! You might end up doing some pretty horrific things!!

Honlann the level 7 Illusionist (inactive) > Level 6 fighter continues his adventure...update 3

Honlann and gang worked their way through the cloakwood. No deaths, so that's good. As is my usual for the spider's area in area 2 of the Cloakwood, I had someone go invisible with AI off and free action and set off all the traps in the area...then we dealt with the critters, pretty smooth. Speaking of smooth, Centeol went pretty smooth as well despite not a whole lot of prep for it - Hanna went berserk, Honlann used his best arrows and Paja her wand of heavens - we targeted the 2 sword spiders first, and once they went down our victory was sure.

The most challenging fight for this entire section was of course Drassus and his buddies. I often do web/stinking cloud/silence/skeleetons here, but no arcane. I decided I would give Drassus a chance..I did a few buffs, though not many, most important probably being potion of magic blocking on Honlann. We then then just walked right up in plain view and attacked!

Hanna got close and went berserk, Paja tried silence x2 (both were saved against), Joshua charged Drassus and Honlann stayed in the back using arrows of biting on the enemy mages. One of the enemy mages response? Confusion on the party, hitting everyone! The humans (Joshua, Honlann) failed their saves, the gnomes made theirs (figures). Hanna starts whaling into the enemies. Paja tried hold person but the enemy saved again. While confused, Honlann shot Hanna, and once her enemy was dead, she duly went back and whacked 50% of Honlanns life! Yikes! Well, I got control of Hanna and re-directed her toward the remaining 3 enemies, while Paja used all her heal spells on Honlann.

The humans were still out of action, in fact now Joshua is attacking Honlann (uh oh..)...Paja uses her sling since her spells have been useless so far, and Hanna is now barreling into the mages...as it turns out, Hanna killed all 4 enemies herself...clearly, she could have soloed these guys if she wanted, she hardly even took any damage despite all this. Haste boots went to Joshua, success!

In order to loot the 4 levels of the Cloakwood Mine, it took 3 trips, even with Yeslick's carrying help, who we dropped from the party once his quest was over and we returned to the FAI. For Davaeorn, Hanna had as many buffs as made sense, most important probably being potion of magic shielding...as it turned out, she was 100% resist vs. both fire and lightning...poor Davaeorn just couldn't get anything going against her and died. She also the other mages on level 3, using potion of magic blocking and potion of invulnerability.

Oh forgot to mention, for Heirashan, Joshua soloed her with potion of absorption mostly (100% lightning resist) and using a few shots of necklace of missiles - his missiles, plus Heirashan's lightning bolt devastated the enemies, and the party easily mopped up the survivors.

Baldur's Gate now open - most party members only have one more level before the level cap. There are a few areas left unexplored on the east, but we will only go to those if after diong most of the main quest we are still aren't at our caps.

Information:
Joshua, Level 7 Undead Hunter, 72 HP, 695 kills
Hanna, Level 7 Berserker, 63 HP, 587 kills
Paja, Level 7 cleric/level 7 thief, 40 HP, 103 kills
Honlann, level 7 illusionist (inactive)/Level 6 fighter, 35 HP, 170 kills
