Nasha, half-elf shapeshifter (Grond0), & Charel, elf sorceror (Gate70)
So
Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 16(9) - Update 1 (2 hrs 10 mins)
Nasha, half-elf shapeshifter (Grond0), & Charel, elf sorceror (Gate70)
Coming from the school of hard knocks as they are the duo were under way again immediately. no obvious mistakes this time as Shoal provided their first level. On via Beregost to the Friendly Arm to try and stop Charel complaining about being out of spells - again.
Back down to Nashkel and on to the Cloud Peaks, where Charel again demonstrated just how easily Caldo and Krumm go to sleep. The word that this duo mean business starts to spread via Melicamp, Bjornin, Charleston Nib, Brage, Hulrik and Tamah. Meilum would probably say something about the power of call lightning if only he were still alive.
The last action of the session was in the basilisk area, where Nasha meleed the beasts while Charel kept up a bombardment from a safe distance. Mutamin's mirror images didn't last long under a hail of magic missiles, before Charel suggested it was time to leave. Nasha had been poking through the mage's inventory though and wondered whether this might be an appropriate time to try out a cloudkill scroll (guided in invisibly). That seemed pretty effective, with Lindin being the only one not insta-killed and he keeled over next round anyway.
With reputation at 20 and Nasha's tomed charisma at 19 the funds already obtained should be enough for a cloak, staff and amulet combination at Ulgoth's Beard next time. Nasha really needs the additional power of her werewolf level 7 upgrade given her pretty horrible current HPs.

Tiamat is now at level 7 and has just killed some worgs so that Ardrouine would get him to reputation 20. The worgs nearly gave him a nasty shock though as one of them criticalled the quasit for 22 HPs (of his 24). That scared it, but fortunately it recovered quite quickly before wandering into anything else.
The only other potential problem I remember in this run was a petrification surge that Tiamat had to save against. I described this as a 'hint of danger' to Gate70, which he seemed to find funny - not realising that Tiamat's idea of subtle involves throwing a large brick.
After doing the last few of these runs without inventory assistance this version has conjured up a bag of holding to make things easier. He'll be digging through that shortly to see how much money he's got available to spend.

The Candlekeep chores are completed before we leave, but Gorion is killed in a woodland ambush and I am forced to continue alone. Despite expectations I am travelling in human form and shapeshift only when necessary (I’m using F2 key to switch to human form with a dagger and F3 key to switch to werewolf, and the change is as quick as a normal weapon change plus uninterruptible).
Imoen, Montaron and Xzar have been left behind as my wanderings took me north towards the Friendly Arm Inn. One of the nearby hobgoblins catches a murderous paw and a flamedance ring embeds in my fingers. I look for help at the inn and a lady called Joia soon sorts me out.
A couple of temple jobs (Brage, Samuel) are completed while I work out how to cast level spells such as barkskin and flame blade.

Caldo and Krumm hand out a beating so Geran vows to return another day.
Instead he purchases a scroll of protection from petrification plus a stone to flesh scroll and heads east of Beregost temple. Fighting basilisks gives some insight into calling lightning from the sky and summoning insects from the ground.
Korax the ghoul paralyzes Mutamin, and makes a start on the companions of Kirian as a lightning strike injures Lindin. Two summoned kobolds destroy Korax so Geran has to run. His insects are biting Kirian so she follows, but he is unable to kill her before Peter and Lindin arrive. Peter fails to be charmed while Lindin is doomed and injured further in melee.
Lindin is proving to be a pain and after two more hits he is still alive; Geran runs and blasts him with a wand of missiles. Peter is less menacing but not easy to hit, and Geran has run out of healing potions and spells so runs. The aim is to find Kirian and finish her off before seeing to Peter. Geran cannot outrun Peter in wolf shape so dumps Lindin’s armour and runs, but instead of Kirian he charges towards Baerin. Back to wolf shape, and Baerin is an easier mark, quickly reaching near death. Just as Geran feels in control Baerin lands a harsh piercing spear blow and Geran has a dilemma. The spear is risky but an arrow in the back is more threatening, and no potions left to heal.
He uses the wand of missiles and attacks but Baerin survives and thrusts the spear deep into the chest of Geran.

Nasha, half-elf shapeshifter (Grond0), & Charel, elf sorceror (Gate70)
Another cruel end to our attempt to get through BG1 without any deaths (of supporting character as well as PC).
There had been something of a warning about the dangers of making presumptions about spell targeting - here Daveorn cast a fireball through the wall before Nasha could get around to taking a potion of magic blocking.

Carrying on the duo were raiding the city for tomes when Charel decided to react to Jalantha's flamestrike by running outside - after all we don't want to make a mess of the nice clean temple.

Let's hope for better luck with the tenth and final attempt at this configuration.

Sharrde : Neutral Good human female bounty hunter
Special snares deal with a hobgoblin for Joia. Tarnesh dies from snares and they help with Shoal the Nereid. Neira and a booted hobgoblin get more of the same.
Two sirines are snared but a third uses Improved Invisibility. Sil and her sirines survive two special snares, and Sharrde has to glug a potion of clarity (what a waste) as a charm heads towards her. Sil falls for a chunkstab but the other sirines are uninjured. A rest allows another special snare, while one sirine gives chase and succumbs to another snare the remaining sirine stops and refuses to head to the final snare so Sharrde chunkstabs her.
More snares deal with three flesh golems, a girdled ogre, Greywolf and Mulahey. 1 tome used (constitution).

Sharrde : Neutral Good human female bounty hunter
Nimbul is the next snare victim, followed by Lamahla, Maneira and Zeela. Telka is uninjured but a Varscona backstab (x3, 35 damage) chunks her on the first attempt. Tranzig survives two snares but not a backstab. Taugosz Khosann only reaches the third of five snares and a horribly wounded Raemon gasps as his three companions collapse. He hits Sharrde with an arrow and chases her outside. Another snare catches him and Sharrde emerges from the shadows to finish with a backstab.

Alain lay on the ground, invisible, a cluster of smoking arrows piercing his chest. His chest rose and fell, albeit imperceptibly. Imoen watched helplessly from her hiding place in some nearby bushes. The kobolds who had sprung the ambush stalked nearby, searching for their intended victim, muttering between themselves in confusion.
Imoen could see that Alain was gravely wounded, and in immediate danger of death. But with the kobolds nearby, she was terrified to approach.
The kobolds settled back into their ambush positions, refusing to leave.
Imoen decided to risk discovery. She pulled the last healing potion from her pouch. She crawled across the ground, attempting to stay hidden in the shadows. She reached Alain and poured the contents of the potion across his lips. He began to stir.
“What hit me?” He asked.
“Shh,” Imoen said. “I am not invisible. We’ve got to get out of here. Can you move?”
“Maybe,” Alain said.
“Get up,” Imoen ordered. “Walk to the cliffs we passed on the way here. I’ll try to meet you there.”
Just then, an arrow pierced Imoen’s shoulder. She cried out in pain.
“Run, now!” She cried, taking off at a sprint.
She reached the cliffs and crawled beneath a bush. The arrow jutting from her shoulder caught on a branch, and she whimpered in pain. She pressed a cloth to the wound to stanch the bleeding. She waited, looking for any sign of the kobolds, or of Alain.
What seemed like hours passed. Finally, Imoen decided to risk making some noise.
“Alain!” she whispered.
She heard a weak cough come from a nearby bush.
“I can’t see you,” she whispered again.
Alain rustled a branch, breaking invisibility. His robes were stained with blood. He coughed again, spitting up red.
“Oh, Alain,” she said. “Bloody hell. You’re a mess.”
He smiled weakly.
“Let’s get you to the temple of Lathander,” Imoen said as she helped Alain stand and pulled his arm over her shoulder. “Maybe they’ll take you as a charity case.”

That last episode was actually fatal. I have a hard time admitting it. It pains me to write it, but alas, Alain didn't actually survive the surprise five flaming arrows to the chest (two were criticals). But I've become attached to Alain. I'm going to restart his adventure from the beginning, but I'm going to get rid of Hard Times (because I'm not good enough at this to make it less than tedious right now). For storytelling sake, I'm not going to rewrite the beginning. Instead, I'm going to pick things up where they left off, as soon as I can get Alain back to that point. (I've learned a thing or two about caution, I'd hope.) I kind of want to see what happens when Alain isn't dead. I had some plans that I'm not ready to abandon yet.
So when I pick up the tale again, Alain will be leaving the temple of Lathander with Imoen. The priests will have healed him out of the goodness of their hearts. He will be penniless, mostly directionless, but he will not be alone.
You all will forgive me for introducing this little wrinkle in the tale, right? Poetic license? Dramatic device? Author's perogative? Alteration of convention in order to improve the final art?

The latest version of Tiamat has made it past Sarevok, though not without a few problems.
There were a couple of potentially nasty surges at the Cloakwood Mine. First he hit himself with a skull trap; then I thought it was all over when the text said petrification without a saving throw. However, looking more carefully I could see the spell effect on its way to the target - good job that wasn't a buffing spell. There was also a near escape against Daveorn when the mage ignored the fact that Tiamat was invisible to give him a nasty shock. Eventually Daveorn found himself trapped.
Things were more straightforward in the city. For a change I tried out a cloudkill on Slythe. However, he ran out immediately so Tiamat had to resort to the normal wand scorcher. On to the palace where Tiamat summoned a few weak allies, but the improved invisibility on Belt proved more effective and kept him alive to send Tiamat after Sarevok.
I was a bit silly here, being short of attacking options. Tiamat attracted Sarevok out with a bullet, but only had about 50 of them and those together with a few scrolls and wands only got Sarevok to injured status. Tiamat actually accidentally attacked and hit him in melee (without response) to make him badly injured when switching to staff when his bullets ran out.
Rather than risk further melee Tiamat used a potion of invisibility and waited for his protection from magic scroll to run out and then risked using his own spells - fortunately no surges resulted. The skull traps all failed to trigger despite Sarevok running over them multiple times, but with 9 of his 10 magic missiles used Sarevok finally gave up.

Sharrde : Neutral Good human female bounty hunter
Silke stumbled over two snares at her feet and dies before a trio of merchants. Sharrde is unable to detect the traps in Cloakwood so heads to High Hedge and grabs a potion. Brain-fade sets in as she runs from a spider and returns to High Hedge (thought she should have been invisible not free, silly) so buys a second potion of freedom and moves past the spiders/ettercaps (300gp wasted for not paying attention).
One spider is backstabbed and one ettercap (took 2 hits) before moving on. Laskal hands over a potion of
Sharrde scouts around and notices Drasus discussing his ambush plans with Genthore, Rezdan and Kysus. Rezdan dies from his snare injuries while Drasus takes an arrow and stumbles into another snare. Kysus gives chase and perishes in the next snare while Genthore is made of sterner stuff. A couple of backstabs and three more snares are too much for him though.
Three snares deal with Meilum then stealth is used to grab a magical tome (leadership). A couple of basilisks are caught in others (may come back for the rest), then Samuel is helped to the Friendly Arm Inn temple. Bassilus takes two snares and a backstab. Hareishan takes a combination of snares and arrows, while Davaeorn is started with a backstab and teleports onto a trio of snares. Another backstab sees him teleport to a second pair of snares from which there is no escape.

Ramazith has no idea that two snares are at the base of his tower, or that Sharrde has stealthily raced to the top and stolen his valued treasures. He will never know of course, what with the fatal backstab that preceded it all.
Marek survives four snares but not a backstab so Sharrde heads into the Iron Throne HQ. Diyab survives a quadruple backstab but not two pre-laid snares. A doppelganger chases Sharrde into a third pre-laid snare and dies but Sharrde has hidden and throws another snare at Gardush - hitting four enemies. Alai moves closer and is caught by a fourth pre-laid snare, while Sharre tries to hide 3 times unsuccessfully. Alai walks into yet another pre-laid snare and dies, while Naaman hits the next pre-laid snare and dies.
Zhalimar Cloudewulfe arrives and Sharre manages to move into a corner and hide. Gardush and Aasim arrive and spring the final pre-laid snare injuring Aasin and Zhalimar. Sharre tries to backstab Gardush but misses. She rushes for the roof, hiding as Gardush arrives. He takes the brunt of four snares laid earlier and totters towards some railings (oh to be able to push him off the roof) as Aasim arrives to grab him.

Gardush is chunkstabbed and Sharre runs down two flights of stairs, crosses the building and climbs another to lose Aasim (only to find he has duplicated or moved very quickly). Up to the roof, hit him, down and round a corner to chunkstab him. Back into the shadows to check upstairs and downstairs for clones. There are none, so only Zhalimar Cloudewulfe remains.
He is injured, but Sharre lays two snares and hurls a special snare in his direction. She’s in the shadows before it lands and chunkstabs him to leave the two snares in place (not good news eh Cythandria).
Bounty Hunter 9. 159 kills, Davaeorn.

Entering this character into the challenge (* Staff, * short bow * two-hand weapon style). I tried to kill Firebeard but failed, so reloaded from starting save and left Firebeard alone, I can't seem to get him unless I can blind him...
In any case, Trint has avoided many fights when possible, as primarily he was after money to get the equipment needed to take down the mines safely. Having said that, he did nevertheless do a few fights:
* Landrin's spiders by running around Beregost, using bow, and stealthing when possible for the extra Thac0. Used a haste potion. This got Trint level 3
* Merrianne's ogrillions were also defeated by run and shoot/backstab.
* The two ogres guarding the bridge at Gnoll Fortress were defeated by backstab/run and repeat.
* Trint traveled at night through Ankheg country to get access to Ulgoth's Beard, visited couple of times, avoiding fights of course, a single Ankheg critical would kill Trint.
* The belt fetish ogre defeated by using a nearby rock to hide and backstab - this is definitely the funner way to get him than use the normal party concentrated range fire.

Trint just a little more cash to get everything he wanted to deal with Nashkel Mines, so took on Bassilus. Trint opened by greenstone amulet, talked the Bassilus undead friends to death, then commenced the battle. Arrows weren't too effective, though Trint did interrupt a few spells of Bassilus. Bassilus had enough and approached into melee, and pretty fast too. So Trint used the pillars to hide and backstab a few times, and got a big one to finish Bassilus.

A final stop at Ulgoth's Beard (cloak of displacement), and Trint headed to the Carnival to rest and next session will try to solve the Nashkel Mines problem.

Nasha, half-elf shapeshifter (Grond0), & Charel, elf sorceror (Gate70)
This run has been very smooth so far, though with one major blemish that the duo were lucky to escape from. Both characters have also got excellent HPs, so should be a bit less vulnerable going forward.
The opening stages of the run are well-worn territory now and there were no problems in gaining a few levels and completing most of the reputation quests. The last area done before the Nashkel mine was the basilisk one; that provided a nice XP boost and the cloudkill scroll was again put to good use on Kirian's party.
To avoid the hassle of dealing with kobolds most of the mine was traversed invisibly. The intention with Mulahey was for Nasha to lead him round, avoiding him talking, while Charel hit him with magic missiles. That failed immediately when Nasha didn't manage to move at all before being talked to! What was worse, by the time she'd taken an invisibility potion Mulahey was already casting and Nasha became confused. That left Charel in a very precarious position, but she somehow managed to find a route round the pond in the north of the cave and back down. Two sleeps accounted for all the kobolds and a succession of magic missiles the skeletons, while her shield spell helped protect her in melee.

Meanwhile Nasha had luckily had a couple of rounds standing still, but eventually decided to attack Mulahey. She saved against one hold person, but succumbed to the second just as Charel was about to finish off the last skeleton. That allowed her to come and try and get Mulahey's attention and prevent him from beating up Nasha. That resulted in Mulahey's last hold person spell being targeted on Charel and the run hung in the balance for a moment - but she saved. Now only with an entangle to use a couple more rounds of magic missiles saw Mulahey running and he was soon finished off.
No more excitement for a while after that. A call lightning on Nimbul just left a pair of smoking boots behind, while Tranzig also failed to get a spell off. Nasha was well protected against missiles for the bandit camp and acted as the distraction while Charel send wave after wave of magic missiles to clear a way. Inside the main tent they sneaked to the back before opening the attack with a necklace of missiles. That softened the opposition up nicely and Venkt just got off one acid arrow in the melee.
By the time they got through the Cloakwood Nasha had learnt to summon nymphs and they provided an immediate bonus by holding Drasus as the rest of the party suffered through a couple of fireballs before being finished off with melee / MM. The duo then made their way down to Daveorn invisibly. Nasha found it difficult to trigger the traps there - she changed to an improved werewolf shape at level 7 (which is hasted) and seems to move across traps too quickly to trigger them a lot of the time. As a result both battle horrors came out at once. A fireball damaged them and they were dealt with, although Charel did bravely stand her ground to finish off the first with a point-blank magic missile.
To avoid problems with co-ordination Nasha went after Daveorn on her own, protected by a potion of magic-blocking. Already at near death Daveorn saw he was about to die in her jaws and preferred to take his own life.
No problems collecting tomes, Balduran's Helm & Cloak or a second ring of wizardry. Jalantha, who ended the previous version's run, was treated cautiously this time. Nasha had fire protection up and also interrupted her flame strike spell, while a couple of nymphs successfully held her anyway.
The only slight blemish was in dealing with Ramazith. After Nasha's opening attack the idea was for her to fire in magic missiles to interrupt the mage's attempted response. That might have worked better if the MMs had been targeted on Ramazith instead of Nasha, but possibly not - as Nasha was so infuriated that a single swipe from her paw took Ramazith's head off.

Charel investigated the Iron Throne invisibly and the duo are about to report to Duke Eltan and be sent back to Candlekeep.
Nasha, shapeshifter L8, 67 HPs, 125 kills
Charel, sorceror L7, 37 HPs, 97 kills
