When one of the initial characters gets chunked. That is the end of the run. Right?

No. Only when the protagonist dies. When characters controlled by different humans get chunked, they will often end the run. But if you are controlling all the MP characters, Wise, you can just continue (without reloading though of course).

I'd better carrry on then. A shame that all that eperience has gone to waste. Cleric/Rangers are supposed to be tough! My weak illusionist thief survived! Looks like some allies are called for! They need to be tough for DSoSC.

Branwen joined up with us and was a great help first in killing Zardral:

Then in killing Greywolf

Then in killing a winter wolf.

The skeletons that helped to kill Greywolf were the same ones that helped against the winter wolf, and even killed some kobolds afterwards!

We then went to deal with the madman basillus. Once more skeletons were invaluable.

Nice screenshot Grond0, I didn't realise all three hit every time in that final battle, no wonder it was quick.

Good job with Kahrk Blind_Visionary, and hope you have another go Melchom.

I think I've made an unrecoverable error. I've never played TOTSC before, so talked to Shangalar in the Beard. Oops. Foolish.

The next chapter opens:

[IN WHICH ALAIN SENSES HIS MORTALITY APPROACHING. PREVIOUS POST HERE.]

“Alain,” Imoen said uncertainly, “where are we?”

“I don’t know,” Alain replied, poking the ground with his staff. “One second we were in Ulgoth’s Beard, asking for directions to the store. The next second we were here.”

“That man in the square must have been a mage,” Imoen said, looking around. “He must have teleported us somewhere.”

“That looks like ice,” Alain said, pointing at a white glaze spread over jagged  rocks.

“Rising out of the ocean,” Imoen said. “This looks like an island. We are a long way from the Sword Coast.”

“How’s your potion stock?” Alain asked.

Imoen rooted around in her pack. “Depleted by all of those Ankheg fights.”

“Not good,” Alain said. “I’m sorry my big mouth got us into this. We may be trapped here, Imoen.”

“Don’t give up yet,” Imoen said with more confidence than she felt. “There’s a cave right there. Maybe we can find a way back to Ulgoth’s Beard through there.”

“I won’t give up, Imoen,” Alain said, “As long as I can still breathe. I just want you to know…”

“I know,” Imoen interrupted. “You don’t have to say it.”

“It’s just that you and I have been through so much together,” Alain said hesitantly. “These last two months have been some of the best of my life.”

“Mine too,” Imoen said. “Even the nights we spent sleeping in the hedges.”

“Promise me…” Alain said.

“I promise,” Imoen interrupted again, her eyes tearing up. “Let’s talk it all through when we get ourselves out of this.”

“That’s just it, Imoen,” Alain said quietly. “One of these days, we might get ourselves into a situation that we can’t escape.”

“There’s always a way to escape,” Imoen said forcefully.

Alain smiled weakly. “I hope you’re right.”

Good luck. The mages and traps are challenging enough without mods, no idea what they add to it. Any way to keep Imoen invisible so she can clear the traps - you only need to fight one enemy to leave, although you can possibly pickpocket him.

Thanks for the luck, I'll need it. I haven't put any of Imoen's skill points in pickpocketing, and I don't have a potion of master thievery or the like. I can try to sneak through invisible, but I've already triggered the first group of hostile mages - they have detect invisibility, which is a bad sign -- and fled outside. I think my odds are slim, especially because there's nowhere left to run and I have no defense against most mage disabler spells. I believe I also have a mod that makes the maze two-levels deep instead of just one, which may complicate things.

I'll let you know how it goes when I get back to it later tonight!

Imoen pointed at the chanting mage. "Quick, Alain, blind that bastard!"

Alain wove his hands furiously, chanting. The opposing mage did the same. They fired off spells simultaneously, blinding eachother.

"Damn," Alain said. "I can't see a thing. Help, Imoen!"

"Go invisible!" she shouted.

Alain did, just as another mage stepped around the corner to survey the scene.

Alain and Imoen ducked out of the cave back onto the island surface. Andris followed, chanting a curse.

"Hide," Imoen whispered. "Its our only chance."

Imoen leaned over to Alain. "Here's the plan. I'll lead you next to that bastard Andris. Break invisibility when you are next to him, and blind him. Then I'll pepper him with arrows while he panics."

"Good plan," Alain said. "I'm ready."

With Andris down, the duo could rest. Alain tried to wipe the magical blindness from his eyes, but only sleep could restore his sight. Safe for the moment, Imoen and Alain curled up on the sharp rocks next to the icy ocean and tried to sleep.

"Ouch," Alain said, clutching his side. "This one likes to skull trap."

"I got hit too," Imoen said. "Keep hiding. Don't let him find you."

Alain put his hand on Imoen's side, and closed his eyes. Her wound closed.

Imoen looked at Alain with gratefulness in her eyes. She wiped some blood from his cheek and smiled.

Imoen drove her dagger deep into Beyn's back. The mage fell in a heap, paralyzed, dying.

"Two down," Imoen said. "One to go."

Alain spat blood. "Let's rest. I don't think I can take more of this right now."

Imoen examined the floor. "We got those mages, but I'm worried that this place is trapped."

Alain shrugged. "That's your area of expertise, right?"

"Not really," Imoen replied. "Can you shield me up or something? I might have to test this floor plate out by just stepping on it."

"Umm," Alain said, "I don't have much that could help you. Other than I can heal a bit of damage if you manage to hurt yourself,"

"Great," Imoen said. "Maybe I should have let you buy more of those potions of maybe-someday-we-might-need-these, even if they stink."

Imoen rubbed her fingers over her smoldering armor. "I'm going to need a new jerkin again."

"At least you won't need new skin," Alain said.

"I think we have to go down these stairs," Imoen said. "I'm scared."

"Me too," said Alain. "Be careful."

How do you add the text to the screenshot?

Do you just copy and paste from the blurb at the bottom of the screen or is it more complicated than that?

Carsomyr and friends continued onwards. He cursed himself for wasting reputation points by finishing quests when he already had a reputation of 20.

He killed a drow north-west of Nashkel. He couldn't understand it! Why should he lose reputation for killing a drow?! He regained some of the lost reputation by clearing the mines, which was easy enough, and afterwards returned Samuel to the Friendly Arms Inn, rescued a boy from worgs, helped an archaeologist, and also Brage. However, he has still lost his status as a hero, and if we had done things in the right order, we would probably now be hero again! No doubt other opportunities will arise, but he would like to do some shopping now!!! He decided to return to Baldur’s Gate as they are now a bit stronger. By helping a dead boy killed in a temple, he gained a nice shield. He also helped a diseased man, and also a petrified thief who told them where to find a cloak.

My standard screenshots are just copy and paste yes, though I do occasionally add something different using a text box. I normally add text within Paint, although you can do it in Photobucket as well.

 Multi-player No-Reload
Level 7 paladin, controlled by Corey_Russell
Level 8 thief, controlled by Dogdancing

The duo made some more progress tonight.

* The duo had a short battle with Melium - Melium didn't hit Coretrue at all, though Coretrue hit Melium twice and a backstab by Wewa finished him - bracers going to Coretrue. There will basically be no more upgrades for Coretrue until Baldur's Gate now, and all slots are used by items. Kahrk was left alone - unnecessarily risky, we don't need the experience or his loot right now.
* Had a battle with Molkar and his fellow assassins - Coretrue buffed with potion of magic protection, invulnerability, and protection from evil. Wewa fired fireballs until the casters died, then assisted with her acid arrows - completely victory for the team.
* Firewine ruins, the major enemies here cleared. The key buff was potion of absorption on Coretrue. They entered the ruiins via the halfling's house. Wewa got confused but Coretrue managed to finish the Ogre Mage, Lendarn, the ogrillions and kobolds by himself. This was sort of deja vu, as the last time the duo was here, Dogdancing's character was confused that time too, but Goodguy made his save, as a gnome.

Duo was full of loot. Sold at High Hedge, bought some potions of elixar to prepare to enter the Cloakwood, got the first Cloakwood area, and saved here.

Carsomyr and party did a number of minor jobs inn the Gate that has enabled them to be minor heroes again. Reputation 17. The experience was insignificant however. Clearly another major quest will have to be done, perhaps finding those bandits. I am considering adding to the party for that as there are a few good fighters around. Perhaps a paladin would be best. No conflict of interest there.

Imoen stepped lightly between the corpses of winter wolves and mountain bears toward Dezkiel. His body, scarred by magic missles and pierced by arrows, lay still in the middle of the icy cave. Imoen lifted the cloak from his shoulders, stuffing it into her pack.

"I've explored this entire cave," Imoen said. "It ends here. There's no way out. We're trapped. We're going to go insane like this poor fellow," She kicked Dezkiel's corpse with her foot.

"I'd rather die under an open sky," Alain said. "Let's get out of this cave."

"Agreed," Imoen said.

The pair climbed the stairs, invisible, marching past an oblivious ice golem, a pack of winter wolves, and some bears. They exited the cave into a brisk, icy wind blowing over the frozen sea.

"Dying is going to take a while," Imoen said. "We have food, we have some water. We just don't have a way off of this island."

Alain hugged Imoen. "At least we'll die together," he said.

"I dunno," Imoen said. "I never imagined dying of starvation. Maybe we should try walking over the ice to see where it goes. Maybe we can jump into the ocean or something."

Alain wondered where the ice ended. Beyond his field of vision for sure.

Just then, he felt magic surrounding his body.

"Wait," Alain said. "I think we're being teleported again."

Imoen gasped as she felt the tug, deep in her guts. The pair vanished, leaving the island empty and alone in the icy sea.

Editorial aside: That was dramatic. Onsight no reload of the ice island. I truly had no right to lead my team out of there alive. I shamelessly ran back and forth in and out of the cave to disrupt targeting. I spammed blindness until the mages were disabled. I rested a dozen times and cast lots of invisibility spells. Yeah!! I thought that was the end. Glad to be able to move on.

Nil Desperandum - berserker (first & final update)

As the title indicates, I thought I would have another go straight away.  I considered trying again to learn all spells with a mage, but think I'd have even less chance of concentrating long enough to beat Irenicus with one of those.  Instead I'm effectively repeating the previous kensai, but with protection against maze and imprisonment built in!

I was trying to go through BG1 as quickly as possible without taking too many risks.  The total time required to get into Irenicus' dungeon was 1 hour 44 mins, which I thought was pretty good with this character.  That included time spent acquiring tomes, although I realised after I'd finished that I'd never visited the FAI, so haven't got the pantaloons (probably not too great a loss, since I've never got as far as ToB anyway).

The only fight I had trouble with was attacking Meilum when at 5th level to get his bracers.  The initial assault under rage (using dual-wielded long swords) couldn't quite finish him off and Nil had to run round and round trying to get a non-proficient throwing axe through his defenses.  He eventually succeeded with his last-but-one axe, but the battle probably took 7 or 8 minutes longer than I was hoping.

One battle which was shorter than I expected was in the pirate cave.  Nil went there on his return from Candlekeep as part of cleaning up the remaining tomes (except in writing this I've realised he also never got the tome of charisma).  He approached Sil and the sirenes invisibly and used DUHM and rage to quickly finish them off.  That was expected, but I hadn't expected that the same rage would last long enough to chunk all three golems as well - here's the last to go.

He used potions at the palace to help finish off the dopplegangers quickly, though Liia died, and then moved on through the maze invisibly.  Sarevok got treated to Nil's only use of a bow in the game - first with a dispelling arrow and then the arrows of biting picked up from the sirenes.  By the time those 30 had gone Sarevok was primed for a melee assault.  Nil went too far in the temple just before the final assault and produced a battle horror, but just ignored it as he went for Sarevok's throat.

Here's his character record on arrival in the dungeon.  He's got two stars in long sword, one each in flail and short bow and 2 in 2-weapon.
