Pris, halfling kensai (first & final update)Gate70 wrote...
Sounds OK to me although at that speed I reckon we should sub-contract to Bondari Grond0 - does the man not sleep!!
In between reviewing old forum pages in the wee small hours I quickly ran a kensai through BG1. I wasn't entirely sure I wanted to keep her - in fact I considered switching to a wizard slayer dualling to thief, which I noticed I had tried before on one of the pages I read. As a result I took a few risks with Pris, but she survived so I reckon she deserves her chance at BG2.
I didn't keep notes of her adventures, but the early stages were pretty well-worn territory, with most enemies being taken down by throwing axes. Some screenshots taken during the later stages of her adventures follow:
- by the time she had reached level 7 she was at reputation 20 with plenty of money. Purchases included the green amulet, which was used to defeat the sirenes. I took a bit of a risk allowing her to go into combat with the golems -
here's the last one exploding, with Pris possibly vulnerable to a critical.
- with the constitution tome in hand she went straight on to Durlag's Tower to get the tome there. She had the ring of invisibility at this point, but chose not to use it as I wanted a bit more XP to get her up to 8th level before commencing the main quest. The first battle horror fell quickly, but the second hung on grimly (as did Pris, who chose not to retreat). She was definitely vulnerable to a critical at this point, but
she was the one that got one. Note that as with other recent characters I did not allow her the use of any healing or regeneration potions (or antidotes), though she was allowed to use her Bhaal healing power.
- approaching the Nashkel mine she was not quite up to level 8, but
that was easily solved.
- Mulahey was taken for a wander round his pond, but
never got the chance to say if he was enjoying the walk.
- similarly, Nimbul failed to speak -
his boots proving no match for throwing axes.
- Tranzig was force-attacked and I thought he was probably a goner when hit with an opening kai critical. Fortunately he survived that and was able to tell Pris the location of the bandit camp
before being chunked.
- with Claw of Kazgoroth and Cloak of Dispacement equipped as well as Nimbul's boots the bandit archers were no problem. Taugosz didn't appreciate the potion of absorption, but Pris was a bit disappointed to see that her
firebreath potion only killed one of the main enemies. Not to worry though - a single kai attack
sliced through Venkt's mirrors and went on to chunk both the others.
- in addition to throwing axes Pris was using 2-handed swords and therefore wanted to get Spider's Bane. She felt obligated to
lug his brother's body back to Tiber, though that meant leaving most of her equipment in the spider nest in the meantime.
- at the Cloakwood Mine the mages fell to necklace of missiles fireballs. I thought Drasus would struggle to get through another potion of absorption. However, he hit Pris with 2 criticals in quick succession to nearly kill her again, before
she struck the final blow.
- Pris used the ring to sneak down to Daveorn and then decoy the battle horrors away. A potion of magic blocking protected her while she
smacked the mage down.
- after collecting the tomes in the city without problems Pris sneaked through the Iron Throne and was sent back to Candlekeep. She used a scroll of magic protection and storm giant strength to loot the tombs and then layered in a few more buffs to confront Prat and his gang.
They did not enjoy the reunion.
- potions were again in evidence against Slythe, who did fairly well to get 2 attacks in before
becoming part of Pris's redecoration programme. Although still slightly injured Pris chose to use the same buffs in the palace fight. The dopplegangers put up a surprisingly poor fight here,
with even Liia surviving.
- against Sarevok Pris drew him out with an axe attack. His position was then tactically hopeless, with the main threat to Pris being that she had no lightning protection, so had to be careful not to run too far back and forth across the temple and trigger traps. However, she made no mistakes and judged her moment well to come into melee. Sarevok got one attack in, but a
single whack from Spider's Bane sent him on his way.
- Sarevok was defeated this morning, but Pris still had to make it safely back to report into Duke Belt. Remember when I said she had no lightning protection - probably would have
made sense to be a bit more careful coming back through the maze then. She took a potion of invulnerability after the first lightning strike which made sure that she would save for half damage from the second. However, she was relieved to find that there was not to be a third.
Here's her character record on reporting in to Belt.
