@Fred - sorry to hear about Ariadne's demise. Remember there's a huge amount of throwing daggers waiting to be picked up off skeletons in High Hedge.

Corey_Russell/Dogdancing Multi-player no-reload Attempt #5, Update #5
Coretrue - level 6 paladin (controlled by CR)
Wewa - level 6 thief (controlled by dog)

Here's a screenshot where Coretrue is alone for a moment, with his friend Wewa in stone..fortunately he had a scroll handy for just this situation.
Image IPB

This session, Wewa gulped two thieving potions, and a potion of mind focusing and got to work, robbing Ulgoth's Beard of anything that isn't nailed down, including what's in people's pockets. We ran into some very strange bugs - for one, she got two free actions from Dushai - very handy, but very surprising too. Also, Wewa managed to pick-pocket Shandalar for his wardstone 7 times! I've never heard of a bug like this...
Image IPB

Eventually though, she was done looting, the duo sold what they could and identified the rest at high hedge. The bastard sword +1, +3 vs. shapeshifters was a small upgrade for Coretrue. Cash was finally good enough the duo went to Beregost Smithy and bought Wewa her Shadow Armor. Dogdancing was surprised that she has done this much of the game with just simple studded leather. Corey_Russell wasn't surprised though - Coretrue takes most of the heat, so Wewa only has to tank during ambushes.

We had to take care of kids, then other errands, so will have to deal with the Sirines next session.

Goodnight Ariadne 2. (Edit: And sleep tight Ariadne 3). Alas.

I'm really impressed with the SCS scripting. Tarnesh is no joke when your character is only level 1 or 2, especially solo.

That would make the early game really hard... Here's to you for taking on the added challenge!

Looks like Shandalar is prepared to send a bunch of hapless dupes off to ice island to die. That bastard. :?

I know, and I've been collecting them, though the skeletons are too much for a lone L1 character really, except maybe the ones and twos which disturb your rest.

Well, Tarnesh is already a scumbag in vanilla - he uses Horror rather than Sleep (though it wears off quicker I think) and IIRC he's a higher level, throwing out three or more missiles per MM rather than two. SCS does make him attack from range, though, which is a big deal.

Anyway, no worries. Ariadne #4 will succeed where her predecessors failed!

--------------------------------------------

Ariadne heads out of Candlekeep just the same, and is given directions to the FAI by a kind old man she meets on the way. Unfortunately, she reads her map upside-down, and heads south instead of north. She ends up wandering around the wilderness for some time, visitng Beregost and once, briefly (to get the Bhaalspawn power), Nashkel.

In her time, she rescues a talking chicken, but unfortunately, Thalantyr has it for dinner (poor Melicamp dies). However, killing Ghasts around High Hedge gets her to L3 (those things are easier for a party, or someone with ranged weapons they're proficient in, but either way, they're not bad XP for that level).

The downside is that her (expensive) two-handed sword broke, so she's using a katana instead. Actually, for many foes, sword and shield will be better despite her Two-Handed Weapon Style proficiency, since it's less damage but more AC - and she's already dealing double figures a lot of the time, and chunking Gibberlings to boot.

So far, Ariadne can handle:
Gibberlings - with ease, now she's gained a couple of levels. They only hit for a couple of points (6 max, it seems) when they do hit, though they come in sixes which is tough.
Xvarts/Hobgoblins/etc - Less easy, but still doable.
Hobgoblin Elites - She killed one, one-on-one, but it was close. She was L2 then, though.
Skeletons (High Hedge ones) - With difficulty, due to their daggers and the fact they come in sixes too, though now she's L3 they should be OK.

She's now back to Beregost to kill Karlat, take Perdue his sword, and do the Beregost quest-mod quests (Family Quarrel, Slime Quest), if she hasn't done them (I forget). With her decent health, and Lay on Hands and Bhaalspawn heal to extend her staying power, she's a lot less fragile. I'm not sure how she'll fare against Ogrillions and the like, though.

An interesting one, suspect it is a multiplayer non-protagonist quirk. She can probably backstab barbarians too.

& looking forward to the 4 rings of Gaxx being equipped...

Wrecking Crew II (update 5)

The Crew have passed through Candlekeep and are back in the City and on the home straight now (I'm not intending to do Durlag's Tower, which is the only significant bit of content not done).

After Duke Eltan beamed them down the coast they quickly disposed of the Iron Throne leaders and got sent to the catacombs.  This time Katana had brought along some storm giant potions and was able to ransack the tombs.

After leaving a trail of dead spiders, ghasts and dopplegangers behind them the Crew moved on to Prat.  The intention was for Katana to deal with them and that initially seemed promising as Prat's spells ate away at his friends.  However, I had forgotten (againImage IPB) that free action does not protect against stun in this installation and Bor managed to freeze Katana with his darts.  The rest of the party intervened and first persuaded Tam to attack someone else before chunking Bor just soon enough to keep Katana alive.
Image IPB
A bit of equipment stacking allowed them to carry all the loot out, though that wasn't actually necessary given there's not really anything worth buying left.

Just for a change nothing odd happened with the basilisks; the experience from them provided everyone with level 8.

Stats
Boss, fighter 8, 89 HPs, 281 kills
Katana, fighter 8, 107 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 145 kills
Hammer, fighter 8, 96 HPs, 113 kills
2-H, fighter 8, 85 HPs, 253 kills, 1 death (lightning trap)
Axe, fighter 8, 90 HPs, 217 kills
Flail, fighter 8, 84 HPs, 190 kills

Killing Sirines on the coast got Adriane up to L5 (can't remember how she got to L4, though Beregost quests helped). These were the ones which interrupt your rest; I did venture out, but three Hobgoblins and three Sirines together were too much. Immune to Charm and Poison makes them much less of a threat, but they still have bows, go invisible, and with SCS have that confusing melee attack (I only remembered when Adriane saved once against it), and I don't know how she'd hold up against that.

So yeah, Sirines are a bit too sketchy for a no-reload I think, but the 4k XP was much appreciated.

Right now, Adriane is actually using Bjornin's shield with a bastard sword rather than her new two-hander, since I figured +2 AC for -1 damage, -1 crit and +4 speed factor was not a bad trade.

Further conquests include:
- Bjornin's half-ogres (of course), which were OK thanks to her self-healing.
- The ogrillions on the Nashkel road (gained Mirianne's ring)
- The Coast Way Ogre - taken down in (risky) melee, though healing was needed also.
- Landrin's spiders - poison is by far the biggest threat, but the four Huge Spiders still kicked out some damage.
- Brage; I took him back to the temple this time, since it seemed more appropriate. I botched Laryssa, though - the plan was to anger her, then talk to Brage and teleport back to Nashkel, leaving her to be defeated later. As it is, I said the wrong thing and she left.

Still to do (easy things, that is): Dunkin & Marl, FAI Hobgoblins, The Amazing Oopah, Noober (can't be bothered... really...), Gurke's cloak, Arghain and his half-ogre bandits (slightly harder than Bjornin's).

Adriane now has 39 health and the ability to heal (rapidly) 10 points from Lay on Hands and however many from her Bhaalspawn power, so as long as she takes damage slowly she has a lot of staying power. However, I'm not confident about taking on any casters; a normal enemy hit is unlikely to kill her, giving her chance to heal and/or flee, but a single failed save can equal unavoidable death.
I'm just debating what team I want; picking up Immy and K&J seems like a good idea, then we can do Basilisks and Sirines properly (i.e. with Skeletons).

Indros died to a giant SCS spider. I wasn't really feeling him anyway. Too serious. Time for a lighter weight run. And... I think its time to try another squishy sorceror. With party.

If you want something less serious you could always consider a wild mage - just remember to buff outside fireball range of your partyImage IPB.

Jens. Sorceror. Update 1.

Gorion always tried to get me to take his lessons seriously. I was a lost cause. Winthrop's ale selection was always more interesting. So was trying to get Phlydia to pull her nose out of those history books long enough to go take a roll in the hay (something that I never did succeed at, unfortunately). Trying to eavesdrop on old stuffyhead Ulraunt and Tethoril and those absurd clerics of Deneir. Persuading Imoen to leave Ol' Puffguts to make the beds himself while we went to play hide and seek in the forest. Or shooting copies of "The History of Halruua" on a bullseye, her with her bow, me with my sling. Wondering aloud who our familes might have been before Gorion rescued us from an orphanage in Beregost....

Now that Gorion is dead, I'm starting to wish that I had been a better student.

Wrecking Crew II (final update)

As expected the Crew had far too much firepower for Slythe (who failed to even talk) or the dopplegangers (who didn't do either duke much injury).

After eliminating the threats in the maze a couple of fireballs and 3 characters shooting arrows of explosion made short work of the Undercity party and the Crew moved on to the temple.  I didn't want to use any magic protection there, so decided to trigger the lightning traps before activating Sarevok.

That done, the plan was to retreat back to the maze to rest and heal injuries before the final conflict.  However, a single skeleton saw them moving and followed them.  It's unusual for enemies to follow across party transition areas, but what harm could a single skeleton do?  The answer is the skeleton could do none at all.  However, 3 characters all firing arrows of explosion in a confined space could do quite a lot!

Ouch. Killed by your own arrows. :-\\

And, Jens Wisdom is very high. Is there much use to that? I guess he'll have plenty of Lore. I would've though Cha or Str might have been more useful, though.

Viell, dwarven swashbuckler (update 1)

After the self-immolation of the Crew I noticed I had this starting save.  As far as I remember I haven't actually played it, so have made a start at running him.

Viell has just completed the bandit camp. Up to that point he didn't really have any problems, but I did take a slight risk there.  He ignored the bandits outside and stealthed into the tent.  Traps were laid for Hakt and Venkt and a couple of fireballs along with those killed both of them.  Raemon did manage to take 50% of Viell's HPs with a critical, but died to another fireball, leaving Viell to finish off Britik at his leisure.

Here's his current character record.  His first few HP rolls were poor, but the last 2 have been good, bringing him back up to only marginally below average.

Oh yeah, that's a point.

Well, Ariadne bravely (read: foolishly) decided to try and take on Tarnesh. She didn't understand why he started attacking her after saying he had something for her, but she knew hostility when she saw it and tactically fell back (read: fled). The aim was to get the guards to clear off his Mirror Images, but in fact he hit her with a Glitterdust so she ran away and waited it out. When she got back his Mirror Images had expired too so she killed him in melee (he spent his Magic Missiles at the start, oddly, which she easily out-healed).

Thus, she gave Landrin her stuff and Unshey his girdle, and recruited Khalid and Jaheira. We then went back to the Sirine area where Khalid's Web and Stinking Cloud made easy work of the Hobgoblins and Sirines. The only issue we had was when our rest was interrupted and Khalid Dire Charmed - I had him Protected from Evil so I'm not sure quite how that happened, but he only managed to shoot Adriane a few time so it wasn't such an issue. The upshot is that we got Jaheira to L5/4, so she can Animate Dead now! Still, I want Khalid to learn Protection from Petrification before attempting the basilisks...

That will be true if Jens manages to keep his sorry hide free of arrow shafts long enough to learn any high-level spells.   So far he's managed to survive some wolves in the forest, but my track record after that isn't so good...

Good luck to Viell! He looks like a bad-ass.

And congrats to Ariadne for taking down Tarnesh!

Edit: And thanks for the well-wishes for Jens, Corey! (He'll need it.)

1368 - Unknown, 30th entry.

It is unclear to me how long we have been crawling through these  dank, horrid mines. The air is thinner than one would expect and it's hard to focus while I am roasting within my heavy armor. With every waking moment, I swear the walls grow closer. The first few levels where safe, and the guards where glad to share what information they had concerning the lower levels. I wish they had told us about the traps.

Progress has been slow. We managed to clear out a large group of Kobolds from one wing on the lower levels, though we lost Khalid doing so. When he fell his armor was soaked in blood, several arrows had pierced his chest and punctured his lung. I can still hear him choke on his own blood. I never did respect the man as a warrior, but his heart was true and I miss his company. Jaheira, his wife, is inconsolable. I try not to talk to her too much, as I am not sure I would say the right words.

The last few days, feels like weeks really, have been quiet. We set up camp in the wing we cleared out, and have stayed here to allow Jaheira time to mourn her husbands passing before we continue. Rimecloak and Montaron have been scouting deeper into the darkness, though only Rimecloak returned today. He told us that while they where clearing out a small group of kobold scouts, Montaron had set off some form of arrow-trap and is now grievously wounded. Jaheira has already left to aid the halfling, and the rest of us are leaving once we find Xzar. Last time i saw him he was rambling on about cavefungi shaped like "the scent of tulips". I swear that man is completely mad.

Viell, dwarven swashbuckler (update 2)

Viell has arrived back in the City from his journey to Candlekeep and is preparing for his final few combats.

At the Cloakwood mine a potion of absorption allowed him to tank Drasus, while the mages fell to fireballs from the shadows.  After sneaking down to Daveorn's level, Viell's trap skill proved just sufficient to avoid any battle horrors appearing.  A potion of magic blocking and stealth was enough to deal with the mage.

In the City he picked up the tomes and the Helm of Balduran (just in case he gets the chance to use that later in BG2).  Didn't bother with the Cloak of Balduran.  The Iron Throne was investigated by stealth before he was sent back to Candlekeep.  He avoided all fighting there, though did take a bit of trap damage - I was a bit surprised he couldn't see the initial magic missile trap, but put up protection from magic scroll anyway.  He did successfully disarm most of the other traps as well as picking the tomb locks to grab the tomes.

A side trip to Durlag's Tower yielded a final tome (haven't bothered with the one at the Gnoll Stronghold as his charisma is so good anywayImage IPB) thanks to the green amulet.

Viell, dwarven swashbuckler (final update)

Viell has completed BG1.

While buying potions I looked in at the Shop of Silence to get a few more perception ones.  This isn't one of my usual haunts and I don't remember being told to go away like that before.

Slythe was shot with dispelling / biting arrows before he could talk.

At the palace Viell added a couple more potions to those used for Slythe.  With 25 dexterity he had 100% chance for setting traps, so put a couple of those out at the start.  I wanted to avoid Viell killing any dopplegangers directly (so that he didn't exceed the BG1 XP cap before the final battle with Sarevok), so just used arrows of dispelling on most of them and tried to attract their attention while the guards killed them.  That was more risky than direct conflict and Viell did pick up a critical hit on him at one point, but Belt survived to send him in search of Sarevok.

Viell detrapped the maze using a potion of invisibility and did the same for the lightning traps in the temple before activating Sarevok.  It took 5 arrows of dispelling (despite dexterity of 24), but eventually Sarevok was slowed.  A barrage of exploding arrows from the shadows then took him to near death before Viell switched to his long sword.  Two of his (non-)backstabs were needed to finish Sarevok off and provide Viell with his last BG1 level.

Viell reported to Belt and was sent off to Athkatla.  He was ambushed by Mae'Var on the way, but I'm sure he'll get his revenge for that eventuallyImage IPB.

Congrats to the Dwarven Swashbuckler!

It seems that Shoal is seriously borked on my install. This time I was very careful only to hit her once, and she paused like she was considering, but didn't speak. I wondered if my main PC was maybe too far away. Anyway, I was able to force dialogue with her, and Droth was taken down easily with skellies, Command and Stinking Cloud.

Ariande and Co. also slew Bassilus (with no issues this time - same tactic as with Droth) but a trip to High Hedge left Khalid failing to scribe either Protection from Petrification or Identify (I have a random magic amulet I want to ID...) so Basilisks might be kinda dodgy.

The team:
Ariadne, Human Female Cavalier 5
Str: 18/98, Dex 17, Con 18, Int 3, Wis 13, Cha 17
HP: 52
Proficiencies: Axes 1, Large Swords 2, Two-Handed 2

Jaheira, Half-Elf Female Cleric 5/Stalker 4
HP: 42
Proficiencies: Blunt 2, Missile 2, Sword & Shield 1

Khalid, Half-Elf Male Fighter 4/Invoker 4
HP: 34
Proficiencies: Bow 2, Large Sword 2, Single Weapon 1

In my recent game with Swordwielder I think that I got the maximum out of this encounter. I only hurt her a little bit so that Droth appeared. I then killed Droth. I then spoke to her to get more experience and whilst she was walking away killed her for an extra 5000 exp.

Set-up was vanilla plus DSoSC

I don't think that you can do that with Tutu as she just disappears after the second conversation.:(

P.S. Just defeated Sarevok after first killing the Green Dragon south of nashkel. That was a tough fight.

Will post images ASAP.

Sadly I couldn't defeat all the mod as I never met the girl after defeating the dragon. Probably this was because I went to Nashkel carnival for several sleeps to recover before going to get the dragon's hoard.

Still, DSoSC is an enjpyable mod and I will probably play it half a dozen times with different characters before going back to Tutu. Pity that I can't get a Tutu version. :(
