Edit: Good luck to you as well, Grimwald - would you care to explain to me what SoSCS is? I am intruiged at the thought of a Dragon in Baldur's Gate 1.
I have my second exam tomorrow, so I would like to appologize if my updates are somewhat slow. I am enjoying Rimecloak's journey so far, and I am looking forward to either cheer for his sucess or mourn his demise.

They bought a scroll of Stone to Flesh from the Temple of Lathander, but Adriane couldn't read it. Khalid pointed out that she was holding it upside-down. Luckily, he was able to do the honours, restoring poor Jaheira. Khalid had gained a Fighter level from the experience, but we subsequently swept the lower area for more basilisks, bumping everone up one more.
Another trip to the coast saw us taking on Sil and her chums. Jaheira then attempted to solo the Flesh Golems (she has the only magic weapon, Ashideena) but it turned out she couldn't; they did a lot more damage than her, and her HP isn't great. However, a combination of pulling the Golems out of the caves and into skellies to act as meat shields (well, bone shields), Ariadne healing Jaheira as she fought, and the occasional Arrow of Biting from Khalid (turns out the golems can be poisoned) was enough to take them all down, one by one. We then looted Black Alric's cave, but I'm not sure if Ariadne can use the Con tome until it's identified (in fact, I'm not sure she can read...)
Ariadne, Human Female Cavalier 6
Khalid, Half-Elf Male Fighter 5/Invoker 5 (no L3 spells yet, though...)
Jaheira, Half-Elf Female Cleric 5/Stalker 5

Good luck with Jens, Blind -
Thanks Easymask! Unfortunately, luck was in short supply for Jens. He died with a hobgoblin's arrow through his throat, gurgling something incoherent at Imoen. She knelt by his side and tried to pour a healing draught between his lips, but it was too little, too late. Imoen fled into the forest, never to be heard from again.....
The end.

After Gorion's murder, Killian and I fled back to the walls of Candlekeep. You'd think that Hull would have taken pity on us. Rain-soaked, teary-eyed, haunted children. Wolves, bandits, gibberlings and who knows what else on our tails. But the keep is closed to us -- more surely than any locked door. Hull refused to let us in. He even leveled his halberd at Killian's chest and ordered us to leave.
To think that I had thought of the monks there as family. To think that I had looked up to Ulraunt and Tethoril. And even Winthrop. I hated the scullery work in the inn, but Ol' Puffguts treated me with more kindness than an orphan like me had a right to expect.
Now I know it for truth. I have no family. All I have left is Killian. And maybe he too will leave me...
We are left now with only a blank slate upon which to write our future.

@The Fred: Ariadne's looking good! Who needs to read when you can swing a sword like she can!
I think it's the Mines next stop; I always put them off as much from disliking them as from being worried I'm not ready. Plus there are the SCS assassins to worry about, but hopefully they should be manageable.
Intelligence for your new run (luck runs out too quickly, as we all know).

Thanks! I'll take whatever I can get. Maybe I'll live to see more than the early game this time....
I'll wish Ariadne some extra muscle for the mines, and the SCS assassins... Go daughter of the Sun Titan! Minotaurs (and kobolds) beware!

Anyway, I decided to press on for another wee while tonight. We got through the mines, though it was tougher than I expected. I wanted to run through in one go and the kobolds on L3 got out of hand - should have used Stinking Cloud or Web I guess. Trying to rest caused no end of troubles, so I headed back to L2 for a nap. The Kobold Chieftain and Shaman were a push-over, properly buffed with skellies, PfE, Chant and - for Khalid - Shield and Blur. They did interrupt his Stinking Cloud, but that just meant Ariadne could wade in.
Mulahey actually came to us, so we fought bottled up in the entranceway to his area. Luckily, that kept his minions pinned behind ours. He also decided to Turn Undead instead of casting, initially, which hit his own guys. Since ours couldn't really flee anyway, it didn't do much, so we managed to kill him pretty easily, especially with a couple of Hold Person spells to keep the Kobold Commandos (and many of their chums) inactive.
Just picked up Xan, and he's a L6 Sorcerer, so I might take him instead of Imoen. Spell choices: he started with Blind and Charm, so I added Shield and Sleep, I think (actually, I should change that Sleep to Colour Spray or MM when I fix his speed) for L1, Mirror Image and Glitterdust for L2, and Monster Summoning I for L3 (plenty of good choices - I'd love to have Haste and Melf's Acid Arrows. And Melf's Minute Meteors, in fact. But monsters are probably more versatile).
Hmm, Imoen and Xan together might make a good team - plenty of spell choices between them, and spells per day coming out of their ears. Of course, Xan's 12hp makes me dubious about how long he's actually going to last...

"Dagger in the dark". "Dagger in the dark", I swear those words haunt me even now in my waking hours. Rimecloak's nightmares have increased in frequency the last few weeks and he wakes in the middle of the night, completely drenched in sweat. He repeats that same damn sentence every night the dreams grab hold of him and I can make little sence of it. Any and all attempts I make to discuss his nightmares with him are met with a cold stare that sends shivers down my spine, followed by the words "I do not know". Though I have no reason in doing so; I am losing fate in the sincerity of that answer with every passing day..
1368 - Morning, 59th entry.
Thus far we have made good progress. It took a few more days, but we eventually managed to put an end to the Kobold "god" running the mines afoul. The ghastly stench from the swine known as Mulahey's den wont seem to leave my nostrils, and his foul blood still stains my armor. I will be sure to have someone polish it once we're back at the Arm. Montaron is still in poor shape, but I am sure Bentley's better half will get him patched up within a week.
I must say that the feeling of sunlight on my face once again sure is welcome and it has lifted not only my moral, but that of the party as well. There is no lifting our new companion Xan's spirits though. Rimecloak swore the Enchanter would only accompany us as far as to the Arm, and I am not one to complain against that decision.

1368 - Evening, 66th entry.
We descended upon them with hidden blades bathed in the cold glare of moonlight. Not one of them expected our betrayal as we emerged from Tazok's tent and out into the night. With some strange form of charm or deceit; Rimecloak had managed to allow us entry under the guise that we where fresh recruits. I'm not sure they even remembered our faces when the alarm echoed through the darkness..
During the fray my sword had struck deep and would not unsheathe from it's new bloodied scabbard. As I lifted my foot to aid it's return I paused. I paused in awe at two shadows slithing throats, one after the other, as they danced a bloody dance through the bandit camp. They say Rimefang is a wraith, returned from the dead to collect souls for some long lost god, but if that where true then Montaron would be nothing short of a wraith himself. I will have to admit, though I am reluctant in doing so, that I drank another potion of speed to keep up with them. I will be sure to keep that a secret though..
It would seem that my watch is over for the night, and some well deserved sleep is due. Come morning we will enter the Cloakwood Mines, and hopefully put an end to the troubles in the region. May Helm watch over us.

Imoen's Journal, Page 2.
I remember when Killian and I used to sneak behind the barracks and practice with our bows. We thought we could out-shoot Fuller with his crossbow, or any of the other guards. More often than not, though, we would miss the target entirely. I can still feel the welts on my forearm from all of the snapped bowstrings. Thank Helm we practised, though. I though Beregost would be safer, but its crawling with spiders. Big ones.

Ever since I can remember, Killian's had a pet fairy dragon. Killian calls him Jupiter. Jupiter's uppity. He's like a cat. When he wants you to pet him, great. When he'd rather you not touch him, look out. I still have a few scars along my forearm from times when he decided I was getting too friendly. But he's also super fun. My favorite is when he turns us invisible. If Winthrop only knew the grief I caused his guests when they couldn't see me... I stole potions, rings, necklaces, weapons, books... and sold them back to Winthrop. He never knew that he was buying his own guests' things. Sometimes I'd even stuff snow in the sheets. Candlekeep Inn! It's like going to Icewind Dale. Tee hee.
Anyway, Jupiter helped us out big time. Apparently Beregost is crawling with assassins as well as spiders. When we went into the Red Sheaf to look for some ale, a surly dwarf tried to kill us! We ran outside, where Jupiter turned us invisible.

Killian managed to fuse the assassin's eyes shut with a spell, but not before he killed Finch. I really liked Finch. She'd come and visit us in Candlekeep every year to scribe books. She'd go shopping with me for cloaks and listen to my stories. She even helped me with the beds at the inn once. I don't think I've ever seen a gnome's head split open like that before... I'm gonna have nightmares. So after Killian blinded the assassin, we feathered his chest with arrows. He died with a sneer on his face. I can't say I'm sorry about what I did to him.

The Friendly Arm had an assassin too. He scared the pants off of me with some kind of spell. I've never felt anything like it. I lost control of my bladder. I dropped my bow. It was all I could do to run away. Fortunately, I guess I surprised him, and Killian escaped the spell's effects. Killian's quite the mage, as well as a fine shot with a bow. And he can sneak too. Killian blinded the assassin with a lucky spell, and then the guards cut the rogue down. I stole a spellbook off of his corpse. I don't feel bad about that at all.

I'm so glad that Killian seems content to travel with me for now. I'm not sure what purpose there is to life. I just want to learn where I come from. Does anyone know? Anyone?

Khalid seems to be making a habit of failing to scribe scrolls, but I managed to get Flame Arrow into his book at least, so he now has something to do with those L3 spell slots. Next stop, Bandit Camp, though I imagine we might have to flee and return later.
Ariadne's current get-up is Studded Leather +1, Scimitar +1 and Medium Shield +1, with Mirianne's Ring of Protection +1, the Girdle of Bluntness (I think) and Nimbul's Boots of Avoidance. In total this brings her AC to 1, which is why I'm keeping her like this rather than two-handing (if/when we get Spider's Bane, she can switch up). However, Full Plate and Packing Steel makes her a bit slow; I think, on reflection, it's meant to be used with BG2 speeds. I have a suspicion that it's adding flat modifiers, so the % decrease in speed is actually a lot higher. Usually this works in my favour, using hit-and-run tactics vs heavily armoured foes, but for Ariadne it makes wearing heavy armour (i.e. heavier than leather) a tougher choice.
Team update:
Ariadne - now has 19 Con thanks to tome!
Khalid - 1 death (Amazonians)
Jaheira - 1 death (Petrification by Basilisk)
Xan - Doing surprisingly fine, and his 3/day Monster Summoning is proving useful, not to mention his many lower-level spells.

With Adriane and Khalid being hit by Slow, it was actually a fairly close run thing us getting out of there. I think we may need a bigger party to take these guys on, even at this level; we can make several forays, but I don't want to risk Adriane getting Black Talon spiked... :-\\

Corey_Russell/Dogdancing Multi-player No-Reload - Attempt #5 - Update 6
Coretrue - Level 6 Paladin, 61 HP, controlled by CR
Wewa- level 7 Thief, 35 HP, controlled by Dog
Coretrue and Wewa explored just south of Candlekeep and met Shoal. Dogdancing was AFK she was helping kids and Corey_Russell was bored, so Corey_Russell went into the multi-player controls and took control of Wewa and had her talk to Shoal - hmm, guess they don't get along, Wewa was kissed dead. Coretrue smacked Shoal and told Shoal to bring back Wewa and Shoal did. Coretrue then charged Droth protected by protection from evil and greenstone amulet. Wewa, at 1 HP, quickly got her equipment and used her best arrows and arrows of biting stuck! Success soon after. Sorry about that Wewa, but it's for a good cause, the helm of defense...
South of the above area, we also cleared more Sirenes with greenstone amulet and trashed the flesh golems - Coretrue's -19 to blunt weapons may have something to do with that. The tome went to Coretrue.
The duo has continued to make progress. Coretrue noticed that both Wewa and himself don't have any bracers, he decided it was time to fix that. Wewa's bracers were easier to get, so the duo went south of Nashkel and beat up Vax and Zal with only Protection from Evil - they aren't too much trouble at our levels. Since Sendai and her goons were nearby, we finished those guys off as well. The bracers of archery went to Wewa.
Next up, Firewine Ruins. We did not mess with Karhk, just kobold trash and Melium. We did use PfE and heroism potion, and that was enough to finish him - bracers went to Coretrue. We took a few ambushes doing all of this, but not too much trouble for the duo, even the dreaded 12 bandit archers plus worgs ambush. Greenstone amulet was recharged, this should last Coretrue for the rest of the game.
Very, very soon the duo will charge the Cloakwood Forest.

Unfortunately, we walked a bit too far into the camp and got hit by a large number of bandits, all spread out, and Xan got shot to pieces. Another fighting retreat saw us falling back before that heavily-armoured dude and a lot of ranged folks, the Hobgoblin Elites being the biggest pain (Adriane seems able to shrug off poison, but the others can't).
Anyway, long story short is the place was cleaned out, the gear collected (for the cause of good, of course) and the tent raided (Jaheira nearly dying to the trap). Then, we headed back to town, and poor Xan was raised.
I'm dubious of trying the Cloakwood mines or even the spider area without a thief, however. That'll be something to think on, I guess.

Unfortunatley Xzar got chunked by some fireball tossing maniac on the first floor. I recruited Quayle and decided to head back - seeing as we could not afford to ressurect Jaheira (I had spent all our gold in preperation of going there). Alas, Montaron was killed by a trap and I found myself without a Thief. I thought to myself that since Rimecloak, Ajantis and Dorne all had around 50 HP (horrid rolls, they where all level 6+) I would survive most of the traps inside. Well, imagine my suprise when this happened (I should have noted all the dead bodies):

Followed by:

I had tons of fun with Rimecloak and learned much from his journey. First of all, I understand that I have to install SCS again to get a proper challenge (even though I got murdered in Ulgoth's Beard without the mod). Second; I will have to think further ahead partywise. Ajantis was the only one able to take a punch, seeing as Xzar had no less than 18 hitpoints, Montaron around 39 (Jaheira the same).
Furthermore I figured out that the Stalker wasn't really for me. Sure, I enjoy backstabbing with a Ranger - but that was pretty much it with him as well. I was simply using Rime as an archer, and felt like the class didn't really give me anything.
I'll probably return very shortly with a new party - this time with SCS installed.

Killian the Arcane.Imoen's Journal, Page 3.
Killian has taken to traveling alone. I'm afraid that he will leave me. I feel inadequate. He says that he only has so many invisibility spells, and that he cannot protect me; but I cannot help but think that he feels that I am a burden to him. A shackle. A weight that he must shed in order to become complete.
Last night, he returned to our room at the Jovial Juggler with several arrow shafts piercing his arms and his upper chest. I'm not a cleric. I cried when I saw him. Fortunately, my nightly forays into the homes of the nobility of Beregost provided enough coin to pay the healers to patch him up. My heart however... no cleric yet has figured out how to heal it.

Jupiter helps us travel with his ability to cloak our shadows in the aura of night. After Killian's last brush with bandits, so far we've avoided ambush. He says that he's found a training ground for me. The word "basilisk" crossed his lips. I don't think I like the sound of that.
