South of Beregost he killed some ogrillons and recovered some boots of stealth from a hobgoblin. As usual, on arrival in that area, he hid in a tree shadow and rested until nightfall (overall provides a saving on how long it takes to hide). Back in Beregost he gave Mirianne her letter and took some spiders on a shooting tour of the town (level 3 - +6 HPs).

Travelled south to Nashkel. An ambush on the way had an hobgoblin archer, but Absol was able to run away quickly enough to avoid being attacked without needing to use his invisibility potion.
In the town looted another invisibility potion from the Manor House, as well as picking up a suit of armour and talking to Noober. Moved on to the Carnival where Oopah was a victim of run & shoot as was Vitiare (making sure he couldn't get close enough to talk). Looted another invisibility potion from the potion seller's tent and bought scroll of protection from petrification and necklace of missiles. Rested to get LMD as a Bhaal power.
North of the Carnival Absol approached Arabelle cautiously in order to activate xvarts singly - all were shot. Hulrik's thanks got him to level 4 - +4 HPs.

At Firewine Bridge he ran round some rocks shooting at Meilum for quite a while until Meilum eventually became dead tired. He then came back to pickpocket Bentan, but was targeted by a skeleton archer. That was a bit unfair as it was one that had spawned when he tried to rest on first arriving in the area; those spawns are supposed to disappear when resting, but that doesn't work in this area for some reason. However, the skeleton missed so I will continue trying to avoid damage. After successfully hiding from the skeleton Absol took a potion and tried pickpocketing Bentan. I thought he would be successful there, as you can normally get at least two and often three attempts to pickpocket before a target goes hostile. However, in this case he only got two and both failed - Absol having to quickly run to leave the map area to dodge a hold person.
At the Nashkel mines he put Meilum's bracers immediately to work while running and shooting Greywolf. Then he carefully sneaked through the mine down to Mulahey. He shot the kobolds from stealth and then ran Mulahey round the pond at the north of the cave shooting him until he was no longer in a position to try and talk (level 5 - +7 HPs).

Absol sneaked out of the mine and back to Nashkel. He returned a ring to Joseph's wife and reported to the mayor before Nimbul became another shooting victim who failed to talk.
On to Beregost where he rested to get Bhaal CLW before a series of stealth shots up and down the stairs accounted for Tranzig.
Over to the coast to shoot Shoal before selling a bit of accumulated loot at High Hedge; also picked up Perdue's sword. Back in Beregost Absol used his sword for the first time in stealth attacks (hiding behind pillars) on Karlat. Returning Perdue's sword got him to level 6 - +6 HPs.

So.
Enter Marabus, Chaotic Neutral Elven Sorcerer!
The plan is to go with a "morally dubious" party of Marabus (Sorcerer), Imoen (Sorcerer), Safana (Swashbuckler -> Mage), Viconia (Cleric/Necromancer) and maybe Xan (Sorcerer) or Edwin (Conjurer). Or thereabouts. I could even pick up Xzar (and possibly Monty too... I guess...)
Because more arcane power is better, of course.
Unfortunately, Marabus was killed almost instantly by gibberlings.
Then, he was killed again. He lasted longer, but he transitioned right into a bunch of them in the crossroads area and they hit him before he could flee.
Attempt three got to Nashkel, but when his rest was disturbed by a Hobgoblin Elite, an unfortunate arrow finished him (he was just a bit too far from the area boundary).
Might have another go or two in a while...

Friendly Arm Inn, day 2, hour 19
Khalid and Jaheira are recruted.
We have time before the night falls, so we walk around the inn and killed some hobgobelins. Joia, a resident, was pleased to take her ring back.
That was enough for Imoen to level up (+5HP, +25% locks)
We also found a ring that I identified immediately. Very usefull for spellcaster like me.
After a good rest in the inn, we decided (as Jaheira wanted) to go to Nashkel...
Coast way, day 3, hour 14
Nothing special append here. We killed some bandits and some bears and Jaheira wasn't pleased but leveled up (+8HP, TAC0 -1, +1 druid spell level 1)
There were 4 bandits near a caravan, but 4 against 4 was too risky... We decided to alert the flaming fist instead, when (if) we met some of them.
Beregost, day 3, hour 21
Imoen was happy to be in the real city. She wanted to do shopping (silly girl).
We tried an inn and a new assassin wanted to kill me. He run directly to me and I run ourside. He was following me, and I was afraid, but Khalid, Jaheira and Imoen helped beating him with arrows and bullets.
After we slept; Imoen decided to "visit" every house: the harvest was good. Enough to obtain 2000 gold.
We met an old "friend", FIrebeard, and gave him a book Imoen just had stolen in an house nearby.
We helped Alanna to "unslime" her neighbour (mini-quests) and Annie Dudley to solve family problems (mini-quests).
Haplo leveled up! (+4HP, +1 cleric spell level 1)
Marl was calmed down also. And we rid Landrin's house of spiders. That was enough for Imoen to level up (+7HP, TAC0 -1, +25% detect traps)
We heard a mage living near Beregost and decided to visit him, in order to buy scrolls...
High hedge, day 4, hour 20
Kivan, a ranger, wanted to join the group. He seems obsessed with revenge for his wife but he could be usefull, so I agreed.
(NB: first time I take Kivan, and he's just a killer with his bow)
Some gnolls were killed and we found Perdue's short sword (a little dwarf who was not able to defend himself).
Thalantyr the mage recognized Kivan and gave him a spera (BG1 npc project I suppose).
He also had an incredible collection of scrolls. I bought first "familiar" and "friend".
The "familiar" spell was casted from scroll and a rabbit came. (Haplo +12 HP)
But I failed to leran "friend".
I bought the second and last copy of the scroll and this time succeded to learn it.
It was late but Thalantyr didn't want us to sleep in his house, so we found an abandoned house outside...
Next day, we came back to Thalantyr to buy more scrolls (but with riends memorized, prices are lower with SR).
I bought "web" for me but did not suceed to write it in my book. Damned. I tried "stinking cloud" and this time it was OK. So now I have a level 2 spell, and it's good for some time (and with SR, it's good with Jaheira "entangle").
I bought 2 "sleep" spells, another "web", a "Melf acid arrow", "glitterdust" and leaved the mage.
Fighting skeleton made Khalid leveling up (+10HP, TAC0 -1)
Beregost, day 5, hour 16
South Beregost road, day 5, hour 16
In this area, we first killed two ogrillons and found a letter for Mirianne.
A flaming fist enforcer was convinced that we weren't bandits. We wanted to talk about caravan bandits on coast way, but if the guy was too stupid to think we were bandits, it was no worth trying to explain this...
We discovered that the forest was infested by huge spiders (probably the reason why Landrin house was occupied). The group killed more than twenty of them,
A group of hobgobelin was also eliminated, but Khalid was hit twice (and gulp Healing potion twice also). The hobgobelins had boots of stealth, very usefull for Imoen who is scouting at every moment.
Haplo leveled up! (+2HP, +1 mage spell level 1)
Beregost, day 5, hour 16
Back to the town for Mirianne, Perdue and a good sleep...
To be continued (with the first deaths, with an s)
Team:
Haplo (cleric - wild mage level 2 - 2), 24HP (incl. 12 from rabbit)
Khalid (fighter level 2), 23HP
Jaheira (fighter - druid level 2 - 2), 20HP
Kivan (ranger level 2), 16HP
Imoen (thief level 3), 20HP

Travelled north to the Friendly Arm Inn, stopping off to shoot an ogre for his belt on the way. Tarnesh died without talking, but Landrin seemed happy to see some of his goods (although it looks like I forgot to pick up the body of the spider). Jaheira and Khalid joined up for just a few moments before deciding they didn't want to be associated with a thief.
On to the bandit camp where Absol stealthed into the main tent and hurried to the north end out of sight of Raemon. Then detected the trap, stealthed, removed the trap, stealthed and hurried out of the tent and away {I was pleased with that as I thought it might be necessary to use a potion of invisibility to get away}.
Back in Beregost got caught stealing to get reputation back to 9 before resting to get horror as a Bhaal power. Bought a necklace of missiles and protection from petrification at the Carnival and journeyed to the basilisk area. Shot all the basilisks away from Mutamin and released Tamah from a stony prison. Then recruited Korax and got him to paralyse Mutamin and his pets (level 7 - +8 HPs).

For the party Absol cleared away some nearby enemies and then guided Korax in under stealth. While he attacked Kirian Absol tried his horror for the first time - and got a perfect result with Kirian paralysed and the others all scared. Baerin was shot down while running and Peter damaged before being paralysed as soon as he stopped running. Lindin took a while to track down searching under stealth, but then he too faced the Korax treatment. In gratitude for his help Absol then shot Korax down like a, well, ghoul.
Travelling to High Hedge Absol triggered a basilisk ambush, but simply ran away from that and arrived safely to sell equipment - taking his funds to over 30,000.
Moving on to the lighthouse area he shot some worgs for Ardouine before using fireballs from the shadows on a group of sirenes. Unfortunately I hadn't really registered that it had started raining and a bolt of lightning inflicted Absol's first damage of the run (other than the 1 HP from a flame arrow during Gorion's ambush).

That fails his attempt to get through undamaged, but he'll continue trying to avoid further damage for the moment. After resting until the next night (to avoid another lightning bolt killing him) he returned to the sirenes. They were now all split up and moving round, so not a good target for fireballs, and Absol switched to shooting from the shadows. That's always a bit ticklish against a moving target, but it was carried out safely on this occasion.
Sil's group don't move around in the same way so were easy fireball targets - the last 2 being finished with stealth shots from near death. Inside the cave the flesh golems were shot with some of the +1 arrows taken from Baerin - the second of those getting Absol to level 8 - +7 HPs (after a poor start his HPs are shaping up very nicely now).

Moving down the coast Absol helped out Charleston Nib and then got a lift back to Nashkel with Brage. While there he used the tome to get constitution to 20 and owned up to Oublek that he was a dwarf not a grey wolf.
Back at the Valley of the Tombs he accepted a dagger and stealthed past some skeletons into a tomb. After robbing that he was able to restealth to get out without having to give the revenant the dagger. The ghasts were pulled out of their tomb to be shot up before Absol left the area to sell some stuff.
Picked up Samuel and returned him safely to the FAI. While there also handed over Joia's ring.
Rescued Melicamp and took him back to High Hedge. Didn't fancy trying numerous stealth shots to get a skull so a group of skeletons were treated to a necklace blast. That proved to be a good investment when Melicamp survived his transformation.
Heading south again Zargal and his companions fell to stealth shots before Absol used run & shoot tactics to wipe out a group of half-ogres. While in that area he also used a stealth shot + fireball to kill Jemby, the mage. Zekar, the archer, fell to another stealth shot and Teyngan to run & shoot.
After reporting in to Bjornin Absol sold his surplus equipment and also did a bed and breakfast transaction on the necklace of missiles - taking it from 2 charges to 25 for a net cost of 5,900.
Heading to the Cloudpeaks he encountered his first bandit ambush and used one of his 6 potions of invisibility. Two fireballs from the shadows killed Sendai and her companions (providing lots more +1 arrows). A bit of stealthing to get past skeletons allowed Rufie to be reunited with his master before stealth shots accounted for Zal & Vax. Caldo & Krumm didn't last long either and then Drienne proved very pleased to get her cat back (reputation 20). A few shots each took care of Gnarl and Hairtooth before Absol stealthed through to the xvart cave. He managed to restealth a couple of times there, allowing him to kill the first 3 xvarts using stealth-shots, but had to run the last one round the cave a couple of times before successfully shooting it and picking up the tome of charisma. Killing a bear persuaded a merchant to give Absol a pair of boots to try and stuff into his overcrowded rucksack before he went to sell surplus equipment.
Heading north he killed some fishermen and looted an ankheg nest (though not the body). Restealthing after picking up the treasure worked so there was no need to use a potion of invisibility. A rare use of his sword persuaded Tenya to accept her bowl back on the way to Ulgoth's Beard. Selling equipment there got him to over 50,000, half of which was used to buy the ring of invisibility and cloak of displacement.
The ring was used to protect against the web traps as Absol ran through the Cloakwood. At the mine a series of fireballs from the shadows accounted for that party. Absol took Drasus' boots, but is currently still wearing his stealth ones. He sneaked through the mine, just killing the ghasts, down to Daveorn's level. The guard there was taken down by sword - re-stealthing around the little projecting wall. After resting invisibly Absol disarmed the traps and then used an extended series of stealth shots on Daveorn with some of his +1 arrows. No mistakes were made and eventually Daveorn fell. Stealth sword attacks were used on the jelly (using arrows to pull it around into positions easy to hide again from) getting Absol to level 9. I shouldn't have said his HPs were doing well in the last post as he got the minimum 3 this time to pull him back to just 1 HP above average.

Arriving in the city Absol picked up the tome of dexterity and sold surplus equipment. He ran through the poison quest, using a potion of speed before taking on Jalantha in case it was necessary to run away - 3long-range fireballs made sure it wasn't. He picked up the Helm of Balduran, saw Casson resurrected and handed G'axir a sphene gem before talking to Lothander. On to Marek, whose spell was not disturbed by a sword hit. Absol also failed to hide so he used a potion of invisibility to stop Marek's spell before an arrow of biting from the shadows put paid to Marek's chances. The potion of speed was still active, which made shooting Larze with his new Eagle bow even easier than usual for Absol.
Ramazith may have had (very brief) second thoughts about asking Absol for help after he got presented with a potion of firebreath. Absol declined to do any work at the Seven Suns, but investigated the Iron Throne stealthily and was sent to Candlekeep.
He was framed for murder there, but still felt better after resting twice (slow poison and DUHM gained as Bhaal powers). There was another error taking on the last of the phase spiders when I didn't notice that Absol's stealth had failed and the spider got an attack in - but it missed. To make sure there were no more slip-ups Absol used the invisibility ring to exit. Before travelling back to the city he rested (to get a second DUHM) and travelled to Durlag's Tower (another bandit ambush on the way requiring an invisibility potion as I hadn't bothered to travel in stages using the ring). I thought his 95% find traps (enhanced by DUHM) would be enough to disarm the trap to get the final tome, but it proved not to be. I was stubborn about it and didn't use a scroll of magic protection and, after several tries, the trap triggered. Absol saved, but therefore failed in his aim to get through the run without having to make a saving throw.
Back in the city Slythe got shot down with arrows providing Absol with his last BG1 level - only 4 HPs so he ends up just under average HPs for the run.

The slackness creeping into my play during the last update proved costly at the palace. The plan was to lead the dopplegangers upstairs and deal with them there. However, I pressed pause at the wrong point and unpaused the action just as the greater dopplegangers completed their transformation. Before I realised what I'd done Absol had been hit 3 times and was almost dead! The two who followed him initially were soon dealt with and 3 more followed him upstairs when he briefly popped back down again. The final one was shortly despatched as well, leaving both dukes alive.
Absol used a potion of invisibility to run through the maze and into the temple. A dispelling arrow pulled Sarevok out into a hail of 50 acid arrows. That took him to near death and 2 stealth attacks by sword finished him off.
Absol went to buy the Claw of Kazgoroth (can't use the Horn and, by the time he could, its usefulness would be long over) and then reported in to Duke Belt for assignment in Athkatla.

Corey_Russell/Dogdancing Multi-player No-Reload, Atttempt #5 Update 10
Coretrue, level 7 Paladin, 77 HP, Greater Basilisk, controlled by CR (protagonist)
Wewa, level 9 Thief, 45 HP, Greater Basilisk, controlled by Dogdancing
experience: about 130,000 each
So the duo finally makes it to the City of Baldur's Gate. Incidents to date:
* We found a DEX tome - that went to Wewa to help her thief skills, putting her DEX to 20.
* Mages on the top of Sorcerous Sundries defeated. Wewa ran in fear, however, Coretrue had used a potion of magic blocking - he was able to kill 3 of the 4 mages before it ran out then Wewa assisted with her acid arrows on the last one.
* Ogre Mage and his Carrion Crawlers defeated - Wewa used arrow of slaying on the Ogre - last attempt it was a critical miss she connected this time. We looted the things nearby, and Coretrue had to have his armor to Wewa to carry as the body was too heavy - then carrion crawlers respawned! Wewa used her staff and tanked - she took a beating but with Coretrue's sling support they were successful.
* After exiting Sewers, duo reported to a necromancer and gave him the body for a reward.
* Deserta and Vay-ya - divide and conquer here. The duo battled Deserta by herself - Coretrue took a beating but Wewa's acid arrows carried the day once more. For the mage, Coretrue did potion of magic protection and greenstone amulet and charged. After Vay-ya cast confusion, then Wewa assisted - success! Strength gauntlets went to Coretrue for now...
* Greater Basilisk in a Warehouse - Mirror Eyes potion kept Coretrue alive, then once he had the beast's attention Wewa supported with her bow - success once more. This got Wewa her level 9.
* Gauntlets returned to a lady in a Warehouse, she was thankful.
* Seven Suns - thanks to Coretrue's sword that has bonus damage and to hit vs. shapeshifters, this was simple. Commander Scar was pleased with our success, both the Seven Suns and solving the missing citizens problem.
* Guild of thieves (SW corner of the city) - The mage was taken out with arrows of biting, and her lackey's mostly couldn't connect with Coretrue's very high missile defence. Success once more.
* Sunin - for some reason he never summoned his lackeys - arrows of biting once again proved to be too much and the duo defeated him. No one can use the ring of wizardry, but it sold for 9,000 gold, so all good I guess.
Duo sold their junk and saved here, good progress made this session.

Hard Times just has a component which removes the "Easter Egg" items. They're one thing which I personally find annoying; to me, getting a Ring of Wizardry right from the word go just because you know where it is represents the pinnacle of unforgivable metagaming. <_<Grimwald the Wise wrote...

The Wand of Frost by the mines I found by myself on one of my first vanilla games, and it only has like 3 charges anyway... but the Ring is far too powerful, especially for a Sorcerer. I never used to pick it up even when I could.
Well, meanwhile, Marabus #4 was slain by a skeleton outside High Hedge. Shield meant the guy needed to crit to hit (or maybe get a 19; I've seen them miss on an 18) which I guess is what he did, as it one-shotted the poor Sorcerer just before L2. A low AC is great, but at the end of the day, if your HP is low, you're still fragile.

Allow me to introduce Auberyn, Human Skald level 9

I have never played a Bard before, for some reason I have stayed away - seeing as they can not use the thief skills I fancy (I never pickpocket) and I never understood how the Bardic songs worked. Now I do not understand how I have managed without a bard in my party. I see now that the developer's mistake in only having poor NPC Bards ruined their reputation for me.
Anywho, I digress.
The party consists of Auberyn the Skald, Dorn the Blackguard, Montaron, Xzar, Jaheira and Khalid. I decided I would do things differently than I usually do this time around - which proved to work out *quite* well. Actually a lot better than it usually does. Jaheira and Dorn where set as tanks, Jaheira's spells thus involve more selfbuffing than her usual role of support healer (we went straight to the Gnoll Stronghold to get her the dexterity gloves). Khalid was given a bow, Montaron and Xzar slings while Auberyn played songs of inspiration.
Many a foe fell before them: Bassilus, the mad Brage and Mulahey died the first day (alongside many Mercenaries and other foul villains). Things went well for the party, though the improved difficulty found in SCS proved to be *quite* the challenge come chapter two. The Bandit Camp would prove to be a horror show. They snuck into Tazok's tent through charm and charisma and as the leaders discovered them, battle ensued. Pure madness rather than battle really. I was not prepared for the improved version at all, so potions of fireball and any and all tricks I had in my bag (necklace of fireball) where used to survive. I knew I could not flee, but then suddenly Dorne went insane making every save and slaying everyone. I sat there afterwards thinking: "What on earth just happened? How did they survive that?!" Then I realized, they still had to leave the tent, with no rest and no ressurection. I did not have enough potions of invisibility, so I knew they had to fight their way out.
What happened next is beyond me. Both the camp and the Amazon Bounty Hunters attacked as the party emerged from the tent. They ran to get away and back to the Temple outside Beregost, but then something strange occured. They where all clamped up in our pursuit, every last one of them - so the party killed them all with potions of fireball and the necklace of missiles. Three men versus an entire camp. Insanity.

Drasus' party proved quite the challenge, though fell to our arrows in the end. Hareishan was given no mercy either. Davaeorn was killed by Khalid's arrows as well.
Having completed the Cloakwood and flooded the slaves within, they completed all areas but Durlag's Tower and Baldurs Gate before heading off to the wizard island, then the Werewolves. Both where difficult, but the party emerged victorious in both areas.
In Baldur's Gate, the party did every task they could find - earning tomes and what not, and eventually killing the Iron Throne leaders. After a visit to Candlekeep, the party returned to kill Cythandria. Alas, Montaron - one of my favorite characters and a proud member of the party (about 90 / 95 in both Open Locks & Find Traps at this point, for Durlag's Tower) was chunked by her spells.. Xzar gained revenge, but now the party is currently roaming the coast to find themselves a new Thief.
The Party at this point:
Auberyn, Level 9 Human Skald - Eagle Bow.
Dorn, Level 7 Half-Orc Blackguard - Spider's Bane.
Jaheira, Level 6/7 Half-Elf Fighter/Druid - Club +1.
Khalid, Level 7 Half-Elf Fighter - Bow of Marksmanship.
Xzar, Level 7 Human Necromancer - Sling of Unerring Accuracy.
By the way The Fred, why aren't you using a familiar to boost your character's health pool?
