Item randomiser does this to some extent too, right? I haven't figured out where the Ring of Wizardry might be, but its definitely not under that rock outside the FAI. And I'm not running Hard Times.

Image IPBKillian the Arcane.
Imoen's Journal, Page 7.

Killian has decided that we are to disguise ourselves as circus players. I’m feeling quite satisfied with my new title, “Imoen the Magnificent.” Killian’s playing the role of ringleader, master of ceremonies and house magician. As long as he points the prismatic spray away from the crowd, things seem to be OK.

I juggle. I’ve been trying out all sorts of things to juggle. Balls, daggers, cutlery, clubs, gems, helmets, and whatnot. “Killan the Timid” refused to let me use his potions of explosion. I suppose that’s smart, but I still want to try. Maybe only three of them at one time...

Last night, I went through the carnival grounds and rustled up some chickens before my show. They squawked like mad when I tried to juggle them, and that part of my performance didn’t last very long because the chickens flapped a bit after I tossed them, but the crowd loved it. I'm making coin hand over fist.

Ajantis is none too pleased with this arrangement, though. He’d rather be out sticking his sword through gibberlings. I don’t think he appreciates Killian’s fine mind for strategy and guile. He’s also too dignified to be a player, so Killan asked him to collect coin at the door and keep an eye out for trouble.

Kivan refused to play along initially, until we convinced him that this was the best way to keep out of sight of those mysterious assassins that seem to be after us. Killian also asked him to sneak through the crowd to see if he could overhear any rumors about the bandit gangs roaming the roads, or of Tazok, the killer of his lost love Deheriana. Eventually, I think I’ll get him to perform. The man is a complete terror with a longbow. Maybe we can get our new friend, Branwen, to put an apple on her head and let Kivan shoot it off.

Oh, did I mention Branwen? She’s a little crazy. Killian freed her from petrification after beating the crap out of a little halfling who was trying to sell her. I don’t know how long she was trapped in stone, or how many times she was hit over the head with a war hammer as a child, but she never seems to laugh at my jokes. Oh well.

Nice to see Killian is still alive and well, Blind!

I have to say, after venturing through Durlag's Tower for the first time - without using any tips or hints - took me about a day to complete. I picked up and dual-classed Shar-Teel for my new Fighter/Thief after Montaron got chuncked (this allowed me to spend her points like I had on Montaron, instead of picking up a pre-leveled thief) and killed quite a few Ankhegs to get her up to our level. When she was 6/6 we went inside Durlag's Tower and spent an entire day there. I haven't even eaten today.

So many traps, horrors and monsters. Every turn I made, I discovered new challenges. It was increadible and so difficult - but I loved it! It was such an enjoyable dungeon crawl, even though it drained me entirely.

After a LOT of trips to the Temple (Every time Shar-Teel or Dorn died I had to go back and ressurect them) and fighting through endless hordes and deadly traps - we finally defeated the Demon Knight (rather anticlimax that fight was). Alas, Khalid got chunked against the Cult Demon (the demon just turned him into a ghould, instantly killing him through his 104 HP). In the end though, they emerged victorius.

The party then picked up Kivan and decided to end Sarevok once and for all.

The fight went really well, it's been a long time since I fought Sarevok with SCS installed - but it didn't prove to be much of a challenge to my crew. Some summoned Hobgoblins managed to lure Sarevok away while my party killed all his friends. In the end, only Angelo and Sarevok remained - but Dorn proved more capable than Sarevok in the end while Auberyn scored the killing blow. Marvelous.

Well then, I guess I am off to Amn!

Edit: I learned quite a few things in this playthrough though. I learned how good Bards can be, and they will probably be a part of my 6-man parties in coming playthroughs. I also learned that I do not care much for druids, especially not multi-class druids. Having no real healer was a pain, and I really missed having a Cleric with me. I'll be sure to take those lessons learned with me in Amn.

Edit 2: Seems like there is some kind of compatability issue when importing my character into BG2, probably since I am playing BG:EE?

I think the intention is for you to wait for BG2:EE or whatever they call it. Probably easier to roll a new one and Shadowkeeper to the correct values.

Khalid will have had a little "dying" icon that is like a white snake. Not easy to see and requires a dispel. Protections against it vary between versions of the game (2 x protection from petrification and potion of mirrored eyes). The best way to dispel it in my experience is to shoot Khalid with an arrow of dispelling.

Thank you Grond0! I hope so as well!

Ah, that makes sence Gate. It's amazing how sloppy I can get in new encounters.
Aye, I tried creating a new character and that worked - my only problem now is fps drops in BG 2 and crashes. Loads and loads of crashes.

Edit: Now I can't load my crashed game either, getting "An Assertion failed in ChVidImage3d.cpp at line number 899" crash whenever I try loading my BG 2 save..

Congratulations Easymask! From what I hear, an on-sight no-reload of Durlag's Tower is an accomplishment to be proud of. Not to mention putting Sarevok down for a nap.

Good luck with importing your character into BG2.

@Easymask - grats on taking down Sarevok. Best of luck in Amn.

Praden the dwarven fighter/thief Update:

Praden is still alive, just slow going, full party and all. The party explored the Valley of the three tombs area. The amazon assassins failed to kill anyone - in fact, not even sure they got an attack off. As soon as the enemies saw us, Branwen opened with silence, Dynaheir with web and Imoen spammed the magic missile wand on the casters. Dynaheir would then use LMD on the casters as well. The non-casters of the party then used their ranged weapons. Nimbul's huge stack of throwing axes finally got to see some good use, Minsc loved throwing them around. Thus the enemies were either held, silenced or died fast due to concentrated fire.

Ajantis soloed the undead with the pro-undead scroll we got the from the girl for returning her dead cat. We battled Narcissus and his jellies - Narcissus fell in two rounds due to concentrated ranged fire, also Imoen disrupted him using Tranzig's magic missile wand. The jellies were a different matter -- it didn't help the mages of the party didn't have weapons that could hurt them. So Branwen, Ajantis, Minsc and Praden had to use their melee weaopons to do the job. Since there were two mustard jellies, Ajantis tanked one (he had hill giant strength active) and the other three tried to burn one down. Well Ajantis was getting hurt bad, including poisoned. So Branwen and Praden healed him, then went back to melee. Branwen has a +1 flail for a melee weapon, I figured her Thac0 would be better with her special ability and had her summon a hammer. Success, and no deaths, good.

We sold our junk at the carnival, gold just so-so at 9000 gold or so. When we went to Beregost we got the big ambush of 10 bandit archers and two worgs - party handled it well, though it took a lot of micro-management. Imoen put sleep on the nearest bandits to her, and Dynaher did web to the nearest ones to her - this allowed both mages to not be slain.

Party Status:
Ajantis - level 4 Paladin, 33 HP, 87 kills
Minsc - level 4 Ranger, 34 HP, 114 kills
Branwen - level 4 Cleric, 25 HP, 29 kills
Praden - level 3 fighter/level 4 thief, 36 HP, 213 kills
Imoen - level 5 thief (inactive) > level 2 illusionist, 28 HP, 46 kills
Dynaheir - level 4 invoker, 19 HP, 15 kills

Image IPBKillian the Arcane.
Imoen's Journal, Page 8.

We’ve taken some time off from the circus shows. Killian wanted to go find some treasure. I think his mind is addled. We almost died. Well, I think I did die. I’m not sure. It was pretty weird. I’m starting to think that following this guy around is maybe not the best idea.

At first, Ajantis wanted to go hunt the mad cleric Bassilus. Killian indulged him. Especially since the priests at the Temple of Lathander in Beregost had put up a 5,000 gold piece reward. Bassilus managed to paralyze Ajantis, but he didn’t last long under a hail of arrows.

Then we traveled deeper into the forest. Past a waterfall, where we helped a dryad protect her tree. Through a Xvart village defended by a bear. And on into a fortress filled with Gnolls. We found some treasure in there, but more to the point, we found an annoying witch who just wanted us to go looking for her journal and some blockhead named Minsc. When we went looking for her journal, all we found was a horde of gibberlings. Fortunately Branwen found some kind of Rift Hammer on Bassilus, which was quite effective against the mass of gibblerling flesh. We eventually dropped Deheriana off in Beregost, and hopefully she won’t decide later that she actually wants to follow us around. She gives me the creeps.

Then things really got dangerous. We went to look at a shipwreck on the coast. A Nereid ambushed us there, killing Branwen with some kind of soul-sucking death kiss. But while we were regrouping and deciding what to do, a dark water elf ran up and asked Kivan for some help with a Sahaugin ambush or something. We decided, sure, why not, let’s go help – but after we deal with Shoal. But, no, the seasnake teleported us to the ship. Things got really messy from then on.

A carrion-crawler paralyzed Ajantis, and then the Sahaugin cut him down. Killian made himself invisible and ordered a retreat – right into Shoal. Uh oh.
Image IPB

Shoal had summoned some kind of water demon. I don’t remember much of what happened after it bit me. I think I might have actually died. It felt like drowning. Water in the lungs. Blacking out.

Kivan told us that Shoal was following Killian around, trying to dazzle him with some kind of spell even though he was invisible. Kivan got the attention of the water demon, shooting it with arrows, which barely harmed the thing, until finally its animating force fell away. Then Kivan, who couldn’t see the invisible Killian behind Shoal, decided that the only way out of this mess was to shoot the Nereid full of holes. She had some kind of displacement ability, and many shots missed. The Nereid also kept blasting Kivan with poison venom that filled his eyes with tears and made him unable to shoot. But she couldn't charm him, because of his elven resistance to her dazzling magic.

Eventually, Kivan rubbed the crap out of his face and got in a few effective shots. Then Shoal surrendered. Killan was no longer fascinated by her aura at this point, but he was still invisible. Apparently at this point Shoal cast some kind of reanimation spell. I woke up, naked, next to naked Ajantis and naked Branwen. It was pretty uncomfortable. Those two are pretty messed up – scars, red welts where their armor chafes. I’m glad I get to wear my soft pink pants. Keeps my skin nice.

Anyway, back to the tale. Kivan and I went to go get my stuff, because I didn’t want to try and fight naked. Then we went to go get Ajantis’ stuff, because he was whining that we lost his shield. Big baby.

We had to shoot our way through a horde of carrion crawlers just to get to the Sahaguin. By this point the sea elves had died or vanished. Finally, we got Ajantis to suit up. Then we got into position to take on the ogre mage who had been torturing Shoal.

The mage got a bunch of spells off, despite our best effort to poison him. He knocked Ajantis unconscious. He blasted Killian with a lightning bolt, although Killian had some kind of special grounding potion in his pouch, which saved him from too much harm. He blasted Killian with lots of magic missles. The noise attracted some dire wolves, which almost killed Ajantis again.

Finally, the field was clear. Three of us had died, or were knocked out or something, during the fight. Somehow at the end we were all alive and standing up. Beat up, but standing up. Incredible.

I’m ready to go back to the circus. I think juggling potions of explosion – even mixed in with live chickens – is safer than going treasure hunting with Killian.

Thank you all for the kind words and warm wishes!

Since my Character Files did not work, I remade Auberyn and Shadowkeepered him to his correct statistics.

A shame I could not bring Dorn, Xzar and Shar-Teel with me though. What do you guys think, should I remake them for the journey or rather play with new NPC's and play the game as intended further (everything that has happened for the party happened, Jaheira and Minsc retell the story wrong)?

Easymask, it's your game so take my advice with a grain of salt. I think you should RP separation from your BG1 companions. Something happened to them between the Sword Coast and Amn... and somehow you end up imprisoned with some random characters and a hamster. Good luck to Auberyn!

Greetings once again everyone! This time around, I will be playing a little differently than I did in my previous run. Last time around I had max-hp enabled, this will be removed for my current run - and I will also not adjust the slider for learning spells. Furthermore I will pick up whomever NPC I deem fitting to join my party and I am looking forward to playing a Cleric of Talos for the first time around. In addition, my party will be entirely evil - so there's bound to be some roleplay involved.

Anywho, let's sally forth with our story shall we!

Image IPB

Gather 'round one and all - with mugs of mead and keen ears, for now I shall tell the tale of "Talon" Baryn, the half-human/half-god worshipper- and Priest of Talos. They say he was the son of Bhaal, this one - and his adventures through the Sword Coast shook the very realms to their core.

Baryn's story began in Candlekeep, where he grew up under the tutelage of Gorion - a potent Wizard to be sure. Alas, the young man did not hold the Arcane in high regard, and would rather spend most of his evenings with a visiting Priest of Talos. The Priest thaught Baryn much both in the ways of Talos and the art of guile. Few knew the foster child of Gorion had such vile aspects to his personality, as he hid it well behind his "worship" of Lathander.

Bregg, a Duergar Gorion had brought with him to Candlekeep many years ago, was also raised under Gorion's tutelage and the two foster children soon became fast friends. Imoen, their foster-sister, was as eager as Bregg in learning the ways of stealth and deceit - but Bregg's bloodlust and complete lack of regard for his own safety (or anyone elses for that matter) seperated the two thieves.

With Gorion's passing at the hands of Sarevok,
Baryn and Bregg set forth into the night..

A new character as Dragonslayer mark 1 got killed by some golems in Amn. :crying:

Sill playing with vanilla plus DSoSC.

This time a fighter/illusionist called Quirkus.

Amazing stats since with vanilla there's no Frabjous re-roller. Even with the re-roller they would be great stats! :)

Image IPB

Quirkus went round doing good trying to help everyone he met.

Of course he couldn't help everyone with the result that several people died.

Image IPB

Image IPB

Image IPB

Image IPB

Xzar and Montaron helped get the party equipped. Quirkus, perhaps wisely, didn't ask where various pieces of equipment came from.

Ajantis joined the party, so Quirkus felt it best if he allowed the evil members to leave. :)

They were disappointed at this, at least Xzar was.

Imoen then joined us and so did Silke's assistant, be he only stayed for a short while. He was very badly injured by an encounter with Droth and we decided that it was in his best interests to leave the party.

I am thinking that in the interests of having a balanced party a couple of elves from the Friendly Arms Inn should join us.

For now, he is! (I haven't made any progress since the last update. I had no right whatsoever to have made it through that battle alive. Killian casting invisibilty before Shoal ambushed us is the only thing that saved the run from failure, and Kivan is the only thing that kept everyone else from dying. He's so good with the longbow that it's almost unfair.)

BTW @the Fred, if you have the same modded version of Shoal that I have, with the beguiling aura and the water weird, it seems like it takes a lot more than one hit before she decides to surrender. Maybe she has to reach near death or something.

Edit: @ Wise, Quirkus has the best stats I've ever seen anyone roll. Impressive. Make this one count!

RE the missing easter eggs - I'm not sure whether it's Hard Times, Item Randomiser or both, but I have it. ;-)

RE Shoal. No, I'm not sure which mod is doing that, but I don't have it. It's weird, last time she even looked like she was pausing for a sec, but perhaps she is using "walk up and converse" dialogue rather than "shout from a distance"? I can check that; if so, it'd be easy to fix. I'm tempted to restart my Daakaris run, though, even as a minimal reload, as I still feel kinda bitter about that. ;-)

I once rolled a 102 point paladin, but that was with the Frabjous re-roller running over-night.

This roll was special and I doubt that I will ever repeat it.

Statistics are weird though. Lightning does strike twice in the same place, particularly in Baldur's Gate!

I've seen in strike six times in the same place!!!

I'm guessing that last encounter was quite disturbing indeed, Blind! I am glad Killian made it out alive!

The party seems to be handling themselves rather well so far. They've had some run-ins with a couple of "heavy-hitters" - but emerged victorious from every challenge so far. Dorn has done some poor rolls for his hitpoints (from 2-3 he gained 1 HP), while Edwin has done an amazing roll (6 HP gained from 1-2).

Our two Wizards have died a few times, but the rest of the party have been vigilant in the adventure so far. I am very much enjoying my Priest of Talos and I have truly missed having a Cleric with me.

Image IPB

"T'was after the Time of Troubles that Baryn and Bregg walked the realms and many a foe fell victim to their blades and spells. They say Bregg had an uneasy charm to himself, as Baryn and his companions never knew if he was about to gut a merchant or rob him blind. Some say his unnatural charm came from a cloak stolen from a dead man named Algernon, who did not survive a gruesome brawl at Feldepost's Inn in Beregost.

Baryn's cruelty and skill with both hammer and spell grew quickly and word spread of his power. Bounty Hunters came for him in the night, but they fell victim to his devious Lightning Bolt - said to have been granted to him by Talos himself. Rumours soon spread of one particular fancy "Talon" Baryn had grown fond of, namely casting Hold on his victims - while laughing and boasting - forcing them to watch helplessly as the Cleric's companions cut down their allies. Bregg was no better, as he would charm his foe into fighting his own friends and companions; with one of the Duergar's many magical items.

The company soon took the name: "The Band of the Splintered Pine" - and defeated the Gnoll Chieftain of Gnoll Stronghold (aye, the Gnolls where never good with names). Some say they where in the employ of a Thayan Wizard known to many as Edwin and murdered a witch within the bowels of said stronghold. What happened that day I do not know, but I visited the Stronghold not long after, and the grotesque sight that greeted me I will never forget. They had strung the fallen Gnolls alongside the walls and hung the Chieftain's head at the entrance. Homeage to Talos was painted in Gnoll blood upon the walls and the smell would make your noistrils sting for weeks. I wish I could forget that day all together..

During this particular time, Baryn heard of  a bounty placed upon the head of Bassilus - a mad Cleric of Cyric. The Talossan blood flowing in Baryn's veins could not allow his sworn enemy to walk free. The party of Baryn eventually tracked Bassilus down to a glade not far from Beregost. There the mad Priest was surrounded by the Undead and Baryn soon realized that this man was no mere Cleric. He had power, power Baryn wanted for himself.

That night the party of Baryn attacked with spells and blades, cutting down skeletons and zombies alike, before they finally got within reach of Bassilus himself. Though the Cleric had prepared himself well, he soon fell victim to Baryn's superior spellpower. Even though Bassilus attempted to escape with the aid of the spell Sanctuary, the Band of the Splintered Pine fell him and claimed his head as dawn came upon them.

And so they strode forth into the dawning day..

Corey_Russell/Dogdancing Multi-player No-reload, Attempt #5, Update 11
Coretrue - level 8 paladin, 84 HP, controlled by CR (protagonist)
Wewa - level 9 thief, 45 HP, controlled by Wewa

The duo has finished all chapter 5 quests (that they are going to do) in the City of Baldur's Gate. The duo ended their session at the entrance to the Iron Throne building. Here is what they did before that:

1) Jardak and his butler were defeated. Coretrue had done greenstone amulet, protection from evil and fire giant strength to insure success. In general Wewa is using arrows of biting on casters and acid arrows on strong melee types.

2) Razamith was double-crossed. We said we would get his nymph, but instead of doing that, we eliminated his minions and himself. We did have to gulp some heal potions, but otherwise was pretty clean affair by the duo. The INT tome went to Coretrue so that he can cast green scrolls/wands in BG 2.

3) Larze was re-directed -- we told him to look at the wanted poster a bit closer and he never returned.

4) A boy's dead body was obtained from Tenya and returned to a priest of Tymora, who in turn rewarded the party with an upgraded shield for Coretrue

5) We got poisoned by Marek and Lathander. We pick-pocketed Jalantha for the geas scroll, and also kept the wisdom tome from the Temple of Tymora - tome went to Wewa, since Paladins don't get any spell bonus for WIS. Coretrue plans to be an inquisitor, so he gets no spells anyways. We then dealt with Marek. Coretrue used protection from evil and greenstone amulet, Wewa kept at maximum distance. Once Marek used his confusion spell, Coretrue told Wewa to assist - it didn't matter though as Coretrue killed Marek before Wewa could help. This got Coretrue's last level of the game, level 8.

We talked to Scar and we agreed to help Duke Eltan investigate the Iron Throne. The plan for the 5th floor is Coretrue will be protected from magic (scroll), spamming arrows of detonation, while Wewa will assist with her Eagle Bow from the other stairs, ducking in the stairs when she gets targeted by spells or is hurt bad. We will put our plan into action next session.

With the help of Khalid and Jahiera, the party cleared the Nashkel Mines. They then killed the assassins et al outside. When Quirkus was given the dagger to give to the revanant it got dropped and couldn't find it no matter how hard he looked. (No highlighting of dropped items in vanilla). Ended up killing the revanant.

Cleared some caves in the area as well.

Went to Nashkel and killed Nimbul.

Went to the bandit camp and killed all the bandits including Tazok.

Killed Deke and his friends.

Killed Tranzig

Worked their way through Cloakwood up to the spider's nest.

The spiders nest proved to be easy as did a wyvern ambush.
The wyvern cave however, Branwyn was poisoned and we were unable to cure her poison in time. (No pause when you go to the inventory in vanilla)

On the way to get her raised there was yet another wyvern ambush. They too were killed.

Final update for Talon Baryn in Baldurs Gate 1:

The party progressed through the Sword Coast quite well, though i did not drop by Werewolf Island, Durlag's Tower nor the Wizard Island this time around - I rather focused on doing the new NPC's quests. Having done so, I cleared out most of the map and eventually sallied forth against the Iron Throne. In the battle that followed, Rasaad got chunked by Cloudwulfe - a fitting death for the only good character in the party. I have to say, the new quests aren't top notch - and the new areas seem half-arsed at best.

Eventually we moved against Sarevok himself, and after the battle against the Bounty Hunters outside, Dorne and Eldoth had died. I was getting tired of them dieing over and over again (Dorne had done HORRID hp rolls, and at this point of the game was tanking with 39 HP) - so I decided to assault SCS Sarevok with no more than four men (make that three, Skie is clearly a woman).

The ensuing battle was intence, to say the least. My opening went completely ape - and soon both my dispeller (Skie with Eagle Bow + Dispelling Arrows) and my tank Bregg lay dead. I had naught but Edwin and Baryn left - so at this point it felt rather hopeless. They had only managed to kill Semaj, so a Cleric of Talos depleted of most of his spells (dispel magic included) - and a wizard with only a handful of offensive spells left (also no dispel) and no dispel scrolls would make this next part quite interesting..

The two casters managed to grab most of the gear Bregg was carrying, and with all his new equipment (and the Ogre belt - Increases Str to 19 but lowers Int to 6 from BG:EE) Baryn had an astonishing armor class of -9 at this point. First they managed to kill Angelo and his skeleton, then Tazok and his skeleton - then Baryn managed to get a doom spell plus domintation off on Diarmid (he just WOULD NOT leave Sarevok's side - thus fitting that he died by Sarevok's hand) - and the two duked it out. With Diarmid dead, Edwin lured Sarevok off while Baryn slew the last remaining skeleton. WIth only Sarevok left, Edwin donned his hip new boots of speed and gargled speed potions. He was the bait and Baryn's sling+1 was the weapon of choice. After a long long time of tossing marbles at plate - Sarevok finally fell. Quite the ending for the first part of this run, I must say.

See you guys in Amn!

P.S. Oh! And NOT sneaking into the Bandit Camp on SCS is utter(udder?) MADNESS! Be adviced that the following images *might* make you completly mad!
