Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 23 - (update 1)
Rue, human inquisitor (Grond0) & Murl, human monk (Gate70)

It seems to be the season for multi-player inquisitors as another one has started the long journey from Candlekeep.

Murl & Rue were created independently, but look suspiciously like a sibling team to me.  Certainly they seem to work well together and have just arrived in Baldur's Gate for the first time.

There haven't been any deaths so far, though Murl has had a couple of close escapes.  The first was against the party in the basilisk area - where Murl sneaked in and put his stunning blow to good use to incapacitate both Kirian (mage) and Peter (cleric).  However, that made him vulnerable to attacks by the others and he only had 11 HP left when he tried to run for it.  Seeing a critical hit coming from one of Baerin's arrows I feared the worst, but Murl just survived (good job he's been lucky with HP rolls so far).

The second close escape was in the bandit tent.  Again he opened with a successful stunning blow - this time on Venkt.  However, Murl then got caught in the fringes of a firebreath potion used by Rue to finish off the mage and was also poisoned by one of Hakt's arrows.  Down to his last few HPs he used an antidote to neutralize the poison, but was subject to a further attack by Hakt (which missed) before Rue arrived to distract the archer.

Wrecking Crew IV (Final update)

The Crew came to a sticky end against the Iron Throne party soon after they had all got to level 8.

The problems started when I sent two separate groups of 3 up the stairs at each side and set them to attack, rather than controlling each individual separately.  The sight lines for pillars can be a bit strange there and most of my initial attacks were wasted - while the opposition got lucky and confused all 3 of them on one side.

They still put up a decent fight, with Boss holding out to the last despite being confused.  Hope wasn't entirely dead even at that stage with only Zhalimar and Alai left (both at near death).  Zhalimar appeared to be out of arrows and Alai out of spells, but Boss decided just to stand still and be hit rather than run or fight back and his HPs ran out before the confusion.

Alas, the party fell against the Bandit Camp (SCSII Bandit Camp is insanity really, the entire camp comes along WITH the leaders in Tazok's Tent. Not having enough Fireball potions and no Wizard proved to be the party's demise. They had done semi-decent HP rolls, had one death prior to the encounter (Haryn the Wizard Slayer died against Droth) and where doing quite well for themselves. They had cleared most of the open world, save for the basilisks (which I will clear next time around - I wanted to save it for when I was dualing Haryn to Mage).

Anywho, new challenge! This time everyone get's the same treatment - still following the rules from last time; here go the rolls!

Protagonist rolls:
Results: 6-3-8-4

Ability rolls:
Strength: 5-5-4-1 > 15-1 = 14
Dexterity: 3-4-5-1 > 13-1 = 12
Constitution: 4-4-3-5 > 16-3 = 13
Intelligence: 1-4-1-3 > 9-1 = 8
Wisdom: 6-1-6-3 > 16-1 = 15
Charisma: 6-5-6-5 > 22-5 = 17 (whoa, best roll so far!)
House Rule: 5-5-5-2 > 17-2 = 15
Racial: +2 Dex, +2 Int, -2 Con

Final Scores:
Strength: 14
Dexterity: 19 (from Cha, +2 racial)
Constitution: 13 (from Wisdom, -2 racial)
Intelligence: 17 (House roll, +2 racial)
Wisdom: 13
Charisma: 12

Pretty good rolls all together!

Character 2 rolls:
Results: 1-2-4-6

Ability rolls:
Strength: 4-4-3-6 > 17-3 = 14
Dexterity: 5-1-2-4 > 12-1 = 11
Constitution: 1-2-5-2 > 10-1 = 9
Intelligence: 5-5-4-5 > 19-4 = 15
Wisdom: 5-3-6-5 > 19-3 = 16
Charisma: 4-1-1-6 > 12-1 = 11
House Rule: 6-5-3-3 > 17-3 = 14
Racial: +2 Con, +2 Wis, -2 Cha

Final Scores:
Strength: 16 (from Wis)
Dexterity: 15 (from Int)
Constitution: 16 (House roll, +2 racial)
Intelligence: 11
Wisdom: 16 (+2 racial)
Charisma: 9 (-2 racial)

Another set of decent rolls, should prove to be a capable tank and divine caster.

Character 3 rolls:
Results: 2-7-4-1

Ability rolls:
Strength: 3-2-2-1 > 8-1 = 7
Dexterity: 1-1-3-1 > 6-1 = 5
Constitution: 6-6-3-6 > 21-3 = 18
Intelligence: 5-3-3-4 > 15-3 = 12
Wisdom: 4-2-3-6 > 15-2 = 13
Charisma: 5-4-6-5 > 20-4 = 16
House Rule: 4-6-2-1 > 13-1 = 12
Racial: +2 One Ability Score

Final Scores:
Strength: 12 (House roll)
Dexterity: 18 (from Cha, +2 racial)
Constitution: 13
Intelligence: 5
Wisdom: 18 (from Con)
Charisma: 15 (set to 15 from 5, due to minimum - 5 moved to int)

Character 4 rolls:
Results: 6-6-5-6

Ability rolls:
Strength: 3-3-6-5 > 17-3 = 14
Dexterity: 1-6-5-3 > 15-1 = 14
Constitution: 6-5-5-4 > 20-4 = 16
Intelligence: 2-6-4-2 > 14-2 = 12
Wisdom: 6-5-2-1 > 14-1 = 13
Charisma: 4-1-2-1 > 8-1 = 7
House Rule: 6-2-2-3 > 13-2 = 11
Racial: +2 One Ability Score

Final Scores:
Strength: 14
Dexterity: 16 (+2 racial)
Constitution: 12
Intelligence: 16 (from Con)
Wisdom: 13
Charisma: 11 (House roll)

Some decent rolls here, will probably be a fun team to play. For now though I might take a wee party break and bust out a soloer, then pick this party up after a solo run.

Bad luck, Easymask.

The Web spell is a must for the camp with SCS and insanity.
I always have two mages or a mage and a bard, and 4 webs garanty really safety. In fact, I find the camp not too hard when all the ennemies are held :)
Of course you need some Fireball (spell or wand).

Haplo II, half-elf cleric wild mage CG. (update 1)

Haplo, despite a poor start in Candlekeep where Carbos almost killed him (this did not occurs since years, but I was not fast enough after Carbos talked, and he hit me for 5HP, when I have only 6 !!, a very close call here), made an excellent run.
In fact I think he has not been targeted since Gorion's ambush until Zal hit him with a dart...

Haplo recruted Imoen, Xzar and Montaron and goes to Friendly Arm Inn after killing a transsexual ogre.

Here Tarnesh was easily killed, despite a Power Word: Sleep on Xzar and an Horror on Haplo. Montaron and Imoen were enough proficient with bow to kill him quickly. Then Xzar and Montaron were dismissed and Khalid and Jaheira recruted.
Imoen leveled up here also (Thief L2).

After a good sleep, we go to Beregost, but first cleaned the coast way, included the caravan bandits. Here I talked with Khalid (the best AC of the group with his AC 1), and then retreated quickly. The 3 bandits were killed one by one and just the leader stood somewhere. I save the game in order to eat in RL and when I return, I easily killed the leader with a good plan: Khalid approaching the leader, and when she start to shoot him, Imoen backstab her while Jaheira shoot her and Haplo cast Blind. The plan was efficient and the leader was killed without hitting someone. And then the game crashed...
I restart the sequence and Khalid were killed by a crictical hit ! Once the bandit leader was killed, the game crashed again !!
The third attempt was OK (no hit) and the game crashed again !!! WTF ?
After a new reboot, I discovered that the anti-virus was updating something, so I waited, and once it was over, I played again and killed again the bandit leader (this time, Khalid was hit once and gulp a healing potion).
Jaheira leveled up (Fighter L2 / Druid L2)

In Beregost I did most of the quest and Imoen leveled again (Thief L3) while Haplo leveld a cleric level.(Cleric L2 / Wild mage L1).

Then to High Hedge, where I recuted Kivan.
I bought some spells to Thalantyr (Haplo managed to write successfully Web, Stincky cloud and Detect invisibility, each time after 2 attempts, execpt for the last one, where one was enough). I sold the lightning wand found in Beregost in order to purchase more spells for the last member of the team...
Haplo also has a familiar now (casted from scroll).
Khalid leveled up (Fighter L2)

Back to Beregost, I bought some bitting arrows (20) and then tried to kill Silke. With the familiar and the bitting arrows, she was rather easliy killed, but hten the game crashed. O dear ?! This time a Windows update...
The second attempt was the most easy fight I ever did with (SCS) Silke, because her spell was interrupt by the familiar electric attack, and she was poisonned by the first arrow of bitting. I feel a little guilty here, because in the first attempt, I used more arrows of bitting (8 or 9, I didn't remember)...
Haplo levelep up (Cleric L2 / Wild mage L2)

In noth Nashkel road, I encoutered some kobolds (guards, captains, ...) and I collected more than 100 poisonned arrows (5% you poisonned yourself when using it). Kivan almost died when he failed to hide in shadows and 2 hobgobelins archers that were hidden saw him and shot him (for 14 HP, when he had 16). He run as fast as he could and managed to escape while Khalid with his (relatively) good AC came to help.
In this area, Imoen leveld up (Thief L4), but Khalid also (Fighter L3), Kivan (Ranger L3) and Haplo (ClericL3 / Wild mage L2).
The sleep was interrupted twice by simple kobolds (10 at a time), but after a complete rest, Haplo can now cast Hold person...

In Nashkel I recruted Edwin and gave him all the spell I bought from Thalantyr. He manage to write Sleep (usefull but not immediately with Spell Revision, because it affects only creatures with lower or equal level to the caster), Grease (very usefull, despite the medium range and the short area of effect), Melf acid arrow, Web, Monster summoning 1. He failed to learn Mirror image... As a conjurer, Edwin will always memorize at leat one conjuration spell in each level (for RP reasons). I gave Edwin the arcan ring of course.
Jaheira leveled up (Fighter L3 / Druid L3) after Noober was tolerated, and then we killed Neira easily. She was poisonned twice with kobold arrows and then held by Haplo.

The next destination is gnoll fortress for Edwin.  In Fire Leaf Forest, Zal and Vax were realy easily killed (Vax held and Zal tanked by Khalid and shoted by others. Zal managed to shoot Haplo once and hit him for 4HP, the first time he was hit since Gorion's ambush.
Sendai and co were also a breathe. Kivan first charmed a bear and then Khalid approach with the bear in order to separate Sendai from others (not a lot but enough). When the fight started, Jaheira and Edwin casted Entangle and Grease to the 2 archers while Haplo casted Hold on Sendai. Sendai was not held but the bear was too strong for her. Kivan killed the 2 archers with poisonned arrows (once one is poisonned, I switched to normal arrows to avoid being poisonned myself) and then killed the bear who became hostile after he run in the grease/entangle area.
In fact I had much much more difficulties here, with a group of hobgobelins (2 elite guards, one captain, one fighter, and one shaman). Despite an entangle and a grease spell, these bastards poisonned Khalid and Jaheira (so, 2 antidote potions used), the shaman held Kivan (but he run far enough to be safe), and Khalid was hit twice again by the fighter who managed to escape immediately the immobilisation spells (so 3 healing potions used in a row). Finaly I killed them, but it was realy expensive.

Team:
Haplo, Cleric L3 / Wild mage L2, 23 kills (1725), 9% (Karlat)
Khalid, Fighter L3, 20 kills (1617), 8% (Captain hobgobelin)
Jaheira, Fighter L3 / Druid L3, 32 kills (3167), 16% (Neira)
Kivan, Ranger L3, 62 kills (8293), 43% (Silke)
Imoen, Thief L4, 46 kills (4239), 27% (Captain hobgobelin)
Edwin, Mage L2, 0 kill (0), 0% (-)

For the moment, nobody died. And no wild surge (but I mainly use identify, and other mage spells and cleric spells for the moment did not create a surge, but I know it's possible)

Imoen's Journal, Page 9.

Life as a Circus player is going well enough. Although there's a few things I've been dissatisfied by.

Branwen seems to be making a move on Killian. Last night, she sat next to him at the campfire and whispered something private into his ears at several points. She can make him laugh, which is surprising, given how when she speaks in public, its always "Tempus" this and "Tempus," that. Her method of solving problems - hitting things with her Rift Hammer - seems to be about as humorless as one could get. But around the campfire, she softens up. It's Killian. He seems to have that effect on us. Me too. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. At least Branwen can't juggle like I can....

Kivan is the most morose elf I have ever met. He has patience for one thing and one thing only - revenge against those who took away his love. I can't help but pity him. I'm grateful for the times when he just stares at the stars and doesn't speak. His heart is too heavy for me to help him carry.

Ajantis is a halfwit. I'm sorry, but I can't feel generous toward him. There's no grey in his world. It's either shining bright, or "by Helm!" its dark as pitch and needs a sword stuck through it. Juggling has no place in his world. I don't think he understands the concept of fun. I think Killian feels a little uncomfortable around Ajantis too. A few nights ago, they got into an argument about Helm, and how he killed Mystra. I've heard the tales, and I think Helm is an inflexible, morally repulsive automaton... I'm going to get Ajantis to dress up like a clown and dance in the circus one of these days, or I'm going to go crazy.

And Killian.... My feelings towards him are so complicated. He's still the same kid I used to play with in the fountain in front of the great library. He's growing into a man. His ability with magic is blossoming. But his emotional state worries me a bit. He doesn't smile as much as he used to. He seems to be carrying new weight. It's like the color and the light in his world is dimming out. I can't explain it. It's not like Kivan, it has some kind of otherworldy feel to it. Something fae. I suppose I should be grateful for those moments when Branwen makes him laugh. Some days I wish we could just go back to Candlekeep and horse around with the librarians.

Some of his trouble might be from the plague of assassins who have been tracking us. One found us spending the night at the Nashkel Inn. She paralyzed Branwen and Kivan and deafened Killian before Ajantis cut her down. Or maybe it was that crazy mage who tried to kill a woman in the audience at our circus show. Branwen had to fix that problem with her hammer. Or it could be his dreams. I've heard him whispering about Kobolds at night. Tossing and turning, talking about endless armies of the barking demons. I have a feeling that whatever the case may be, our troubles are far from over.

Imoen's Journal, Page 10.

Killian finally relented to Ajantis, who has wanted to go help the mayor with the problem in the mines ever since he first heard word of it. The meathead just wants to smite bandits. Well, Killian decided to indulge him.

Killian's dreams were a premonition. As soon as we set foot in the tainted mines, kobolds flooded the passageways. More than I have ever seen in one place. It was like we kicked a nest of ants. Fortunately, they aren't the most competent fighters. And they don't do well on the end of Branwen's hammer.

There's some deeper plot at work here. The kobolds were poisoining the iron. There was a cleric ordering them about, although he didn't live long enough for interrogation.

We rescued a depressed elf from imprisonment in the mines. I don't know if I can handle another one in our party. Just resting with him here in the bottom of the mines might be about all I can handle. As I write this, we are settling in to rest. Tomorrow we'll travel back to the circus and plot our next move.

I don't rightly know. Bassilus was carrying it. I guess its the Item Randomiser mod inserting an interesting toy. The hammer has a small chance of making a "boom" that hurts everything in a small radius around the wielder. Works great on kobolds and gibberlings. Branwen's taken a liking to it.

I started a wild mage with Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Ajantis and Kivan, still level 1 but felt a bit slow compared to the multiplayer run so I’ve parked it for now (her stats are in the 90's and the thought of flaming, stoning and demonising Ajantis means I'll probably come back to her shortly).

On to another wild mage, got to level 2 solo but still felt slow so parked her too.

Then a dwarven kensai, he got to level 7 before I parked him.

Lucky number 4? Trog is a chaotic evil dwarf barbarian. His speedy little legs finally appealed. He’s spent about 6 hours over the last 3 days grieving the loss of Gorion and finally come to terms with it.Posted Image

Potions and green scrolls were saved for key encounters
(1: Basilisks. 2: Sirines. 3: Davaeorn. 4: Iron Throne HQ to Prat. 5: Coronation to Sarevok then Rahvin). Result;Posted Image

Imoen has just been dumped in Amn. Apparently there are some golden pantaloons, a helm of Balduran and Koveras' ring of protection somewhere nearby.

So Trog is in chateau Irenicus, which gives the aforementioned Wild Mage chance to show her mettle. Her idea of equipment is simple; some unidentified pantaloons containing a ferret familiar, an identified ring of protection and an unidentified ring of wizardry.

Mayhem has been blessed with good health from an early age (roll of 94 for a human mage).Posted Image

Ajantis “Helm this” and “Helm that” is leading the party much to the irritation of Imoen. He guides us safely to Nashkel and then to Captain Brage, describing how Helm has helped him so. Kivan agrees, on the basis that the constant prattle about Helm is undoubtedly scaring off many a wild creature.

Jaheira wants us to be the strong silent type but Khalid suggests we might as well talk our story now before we explode in a fiery shower of cinders or a cow drops out of the sky to flatten our spirits.

We half fight (Ajantis and Khalid) half run (the rest) from an ambush, then shoot and sleep our way out of a second.

A slow ogre yields a couple of girdles and Jaheira is the first to gain a level. She turns to Khalid and explains how she has gained a new insight into life. “Yes dear” say Khalid “as have I. While Ajantis has a girdle that protects him in some strange way I’m afraid to say I’m missing some dear friends of yours and am feeling a trifle heavy-chested. This girdle is such a bad fit and I can’t even see how to remove it”.

Argh! Killian died to a pair of nereids near the lighthouse. Drowning kiss.... I suppose he might have enjoyed it for just a moment. Still, tragedy.

No one lived to tell the end of Killian's tale. Branwen died swinging her hammer at a water weird. Imoen died to a drowning kiss. Kivan, drowning kiss. Ajantis, drowning kiss. Xan died of moaning. In fact, the party was doomed.

The end.

Corey, that is a really good idea. I have a problem with curiosity, like a cat (but one without nine lives). I figured I could get by with elven charm resistance or just some plain old brute force. I got away with it against Shoal. But I suppose, like Thalantyr says, "luck runs out."

Lauryn. Mage-Thief. Chapter 0.

Carbos looked up as the door to the barracks opened. They told him to kill the girl. They hadn't mentioned her piercing blue eyes. Or how the evening sunlight would reflect off of her braids. He hesitated for a moment, wondering if maybe he was in the wrong line of work. Maybe he'd actually rather get to know people rather than kill them. But he shook the feeling off. His ma was sick. His own kids were going hungry. He needed the gold.

He drew his dagger. It was the last thing he ever did.

Posted Image Lauryn. Mage-Thief. Chapter 1.

"Does he talk to you about life outside the library?" Imoen asked.

Lauryn sat down at the table. Imoen pushed a glass of chilled wine over toward her hand. Lauryn picked it up and idly took a sip.

"Gorion?" Lauryn raised an eyebrow. Imoen had always found something deeply peculiar about Lauren's aspect. On the surface, she looked almost human. Very little trace of elven features. Striking red hair. But it was like there was something behind her piercing blue eyes - something not human - something incredibly alert - looking around the corner, waiting to emerge.

"Yeah," Imoen said. "You spend more time with him than anyone I know. He must have some amazing stories of his travels before he settled here."

"There's only one story that matters," Lauryn said. "How he found me. Who my parents were. And now, tonight, why Carbos tried to kill me."

"What?" Imoen exclaimed, gripping her dagger and looking with suspicion at the other patrons eating, drinking and laughing in Winthrop's. "The new stablehand? Tonight? Are you hurt?"

"I'm not hurt," Lauryn said, taking another gulp of wine. "Not physically, at least. Carbos, however.... well, I'm not sure I want to talk about it. I've never killed anyone before."

"Oh Lauryn," Imoen said. "I'm so sorry. Is there anything I can do?"

Lauryn said nothing. She looked dazed. But the inner presence was still there. Imoen could sense its intelligence, and a simmering hunger. She wondered if she had ever known her sister at all, despite all their years growing up together in Candlekeep.

"Let me take you upstairs. You look like you need some sleep."

"Thank you."

"I'll watch the door. You'll be safe."

"Imoen, that's a nice thought. But I don't think we'll ever be safe again."

Quirkus raced through Candlekeep, Ice Island, Werewolf Island and Durlag's Tower before turning his attention to the DSoSC areas. Realised that I should have picked up Jan a bit earlier as she is way behind the party regarding experience and she is essential to the plot. Killing the banshee was easy enough but then we came across the Dark One. He is TOUGH!!! Quirkus got killed. :(
At least I worked out how to stop the PC being killed. A change of tactics is required.

Will post some sceenshots later of the run.

I am starting another run with his brother Grimwald Wyrmslayer.

I find the 18 in wisdom equally intriguing. Personally, I never put more than 15 in wisdom as with the three extra tomes you get up to 18 in BG1 anyway, unless the character has clerical ability that is, or unless there are points to spare as in my current character.

I wish you intelligence, as luck runs out.

OK she's got plenty of that already.

Congratulations to Trog upon reaching Amn. :) However since he's evil perhaps not. He could devastate the Sword Coast!

Haha, that's just me not knowing all the game mechanics. Let's just say that the extra CON points represent her incredible streak of stubbornness. Hopefully that will help her stay alive.

And thank you for the kind words! We'll see, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of making past the first two chapters.
