Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 23 - (update 3)
Rue, human inquisitor (Grond0) & Murl, human monk (Gate70)

Murl & Rue didn't take long yesterday to complete their progress through BG1.

At Candlekeep, Rue used scroll of magic protection and storm giant strength potion to loot the tombs and added a potion of invisibility to leave without incident.

Back in the city Slythe just wanted to talk, but found himself on the wrong end of a dispelling arrow before he could do so.  Rue was originally thinking of using arrows at the palace, but Murl convinced her to make use of her inquisitor dispel as an opening shot, which affected 3 of the 6 greater dopplegangers.  With several of them chasing Murl the dopplegangers failed to kill either duke before being cut down.

Moving on through the maze the various enemies were killed without trouble, but Rue did set off a lightning trap accidentally.  It was a good job Murl immediately threw her an absorption potion to gulp as the lightning bolt chose to start bouncing back and forth across the corridor just where she was.

After going invisibly past the Undercity party Sarevok was also greeted with a dispelling arrow.  Murl did a bit of hiding and attacking, but most of the damage was initially done by Rue running round firing various types of arrows at Sarevok.  By the time she was out of arrows Sarevok was at near death and a final melee assault finished him off quickly.

After carefully avoiding the remaining traps in the maze the duo recovered the pantaloons from storage and went to report to Duke Belt for assignment to a further task in Athkatla.

Stats:
Rue, inquisitor L7, HPs 89, kills 180
Murl, monk L8, HPs 60, kills 94, 0 deaths

@Grond0/Gate70 - Grats once again guys! Hope you guys can give Irenicus some steel...

Zacner II the half-elf conjurer entering trilogy no-reload challenge...
Image IPB
(he was re-rolled - I didn't have a starting save)

Zacner II has gotten to where Zacner I was (level 7). I've been playing him the last few days, but didn't seem much point in posting him until he's the same point as his predecessor. The party make-up is a little strange with two party members dualed. Initially, was just Kagain, Imoen and Zacner, then added Branwen, and only when Imoen was 100% trap/locks dualed her (level 6) - at that point we recruited Shar-Teel. She helps with carrying junk, and she immediately dualed to thief, putting all her initial points into traps. This way when we get to the Cloakwood Mines, we aren't suffering if Imoen hasn't regained her thief abilities, which in most my game she doesn't.

In an incredible stroke of luck, we found knock from a random mob. Zacner Ii even memorized it. Shar-Teel can't pick anything, so she takes out the traps in Durlag's while Zacner opens the chests with knock. We do have to leave a lot to rest and come back, but we got extra spawns that way, so that worked out fine. Currently grinding out as much experience as we can before we taken on the Cloakwood - trying to get funds too, but clearly we will be low funds this run with two arch magi robes to purchase AND the claw of Kazagarouth.

We had an exciting battle at the Bandit Camp -- with the fireballs that Imoen and Zacner II can throw around, the battle was never in doubt.
Image IPB

Party Status:
Kagain - level 6 fighter, 58 HP
Shar-Teel - level 4 fighter/level 7 thief, 42 HP
Branwen - level 7 cleric, 36 HP
Imoen - level 6 thief (inactive)/level 6 mage, 37 HP
Zacner II - level 7 conjurer, 41 HP (with familiar)

Zacner II the Half-Elf Conjurer - Update 2

Zacner and gang made great progress. Some incidents of note:

* Firewine Ruins simple if the ogre mage eats 2 sets of magic missile spells and a wand of heavens.
Image IPB
Kagain soloed the rest of the general area with a potion of absorption.

* I wanted Imoen to get her thief abilities back before going to the Cloakwood but was running out of places to go. Therefore, we braved the lower depths of Durlag's Tower. However, I don't know this portion of Durlag's very well - as result, we tripped a stinking cloud trap with numerous ghasts approaching our position. Out of desperation, Imoen fired a skull trap right at our own position - this did help the ghasts to die before any of the party died, but we took a beating and out of heal potions - have bought a ton this run.
Image IPB

* Drassus was a nice battle - we didn't attack from the fog of war, though we did buff before engaging. Our opening fireballs/skull traps were too much for the enemy mages - Drassus and Genthore survived for a while, but they couldn't do much, while Imoen and Zacner II enjoyed pumping magic missiles into Drassus and Genthore until they fell.
Image IPB

* Our battle vs. Heirashan (2nd level) had a setback - While Kagain charged protected by a magic blocking potion, the party was too close and a lightning bolt hit a right angle and took out Shar-Teel - the first death of the game! So after looting we returned to the FAI, resurrected Shar-Teel, got some potions and resumed our adventure.

* Mages on the 3rd level were beat by potion of magic protection. For Davaern, Kagain soloed him, protected only by potion of magic shielding and Improved Invisibility cast by Zacner II. The vanilla Davaoern has a real problem with II on our melee, and falls without much ado.

The city of Baldur's Gate finally unlocked!

Party Status:
Kagain: level 7 fighter, 64 HP (very sub-standard for a fighter, considering with best rolls he could have 105 HP with his CON)
Shar-Teel: level 4 fighter/level 8 thief, 43 HP
Branwen: level 8 cleric, 45 HP
Imoen: level 6 thief/level 8 mage, 47 (yes a mage has more HP than Shar-Teel - she should feel embarrassed)
Zacner II: level 8 conjurer, 44 HP (with familiar)

Zacner II the level 9 conjurer - Update 3
Traveling with Kagain, Shar-Teel (dualed to thief at 4), Branwen, Imoen (dualed to mage at level 6)

Every one is at their level cap except Imoen, who isn't far off. Chapter 5 quests complete. The party has been sent to Candlekeep. I tried a new strategy vs. the 5th Floor Iron Throne baddies, and it worked marvelously. Basically, I had Kagain pop up the left stairs first, protected by pro magic scroll and 110% fire resistance (important). Then the rest of the party, fully buffed, pop out the right stairs. Then everyone on the right fires off a fireball via necklace of missiles, wand or spell right on Kagain's head. We only had to do this for like 2 rounds, then the sole survivor was taken out quickly with melee. Very smooth op, which is good, as one of my mages died here in the not too distant past.

Here's a screenie of that action:
Image IPB

Will definitely play the remaining portion of the game slow - would hate to fail after doing so much.

Hello,

First of all, I have to apologize for my spelling and language limitations; I’m not from a country where the main
language is English. Second, I want to give you all thanks for inspire me on the No Reload challenge.

I don’t like nowadays videogames at all, so I play the old ones, like Baldurs Gate, Jagged Alliance, etc. I can’t stand the actual standards. So, last week I was bored and I said to myself: “let’s replay Baldurs gate again”. It was fun, but too monotonous and dry after a couple of days. “I have played this game too much”, I said to myself…

But then I began to read this threat, I was looking for difficulty changes. No Reload… Dead is dead… No raising… mmmmph…. Is that possible? Reading deeply, I discovered that it is. After that, I prepared an installation to try it by myself. Incredible! It’s like the game is supposed to be played without reloads! But this is a personal opinion… Now I
plan everything, now I rest, now I read the spells, now I respect the enemies, now I think how to survive, now my decisions matters…

Ferganth’s campaign:

After one hour rolling dices, Ferganth got
this:
STR 18(99) DEX 17 CON 18 INT 10 WIS 10 CHA 14
and ended like this:

Leaving CandelKeep I faced my first
dilemma: Imoen. Could I deal the drama in case of her demise? Would not be
better for my little sister to avoid my dangerous path? Well, after some
meditation I took her. In one day we managed to reach the Friendly Arm In. Ah!
I don’t like to play evil, so avoided those irritating couple in Lions way.

After killing Tarnish before being able to
open his mouth, and steal all the stuff in the friendly fortress, joined with
Khalid and Jaheira. Here is my second dilemma: I can’t tolerate cowards, I
don’t like low fighter abilities, and I secretly “admire” Jaheira… However,
this time I controlled myself and decided to respect the couple, so did not
kidnap Jaheira leaving Khalid closed on a room or killed “by mistake”. After
all I decided to use Khalid as a front liner with a big shield anti arrows.

We headed to Beregost. I decided not to be risky
visiting ankeeks or basiliscs, and do some quests around the city, then point
to Naskel. We killed Silke, joined Garrick for a while, but since he was unable
to identify anything, we left the bard at the miner town.

Then we meet Branwen… well, this was a no
reload game, so I needed people for the cause… and then I began to appreciate
the cleric… a romance. This helped me tolerate seeing Khalid too close of Jaheira.
I never played with Branwen before, it’s not bad. Anyway, Viconia was too far
away with ankeks and Talon bandids in the middle of the way.

Soon after Naskel, Imoen dualed to mage.
So… no way I was going to enter the mines without a thief. The party headed
back to the west coast where we found Safana. She, alone, managed to enter the
pirate cave and steal all the treasure that she told us about. But on the last
moment hide in shadows failed and she awakened some charming nude girls...
Panic! But we won.

I was used to play with SCS, so Naskell
mines, Mullahey and the amazon assassination party were pretty easy without the
MOD. That gave me a false feeling of confidence. Jaheira became widow in Valley
of the Tombs. Slimes disintegrated Khalid, I did not remember how slimes can be
so dangerous. Anyway, Khalid was more than annoying and I wanted to visit The
Gnoll stronghold. Minsc could be my new front line fighter.

Khalid demise:
s1360.photobucket.com/user/Ferganth/media/KhalidDeath_zpsec7f11fe.jpg.html
or
Image IPB

On second thought I decided to train my
party, I mean level up doing more side questing. Dynaheir and Misc could wait a
bit more. At this point ankeeks and basilisc would not be a problem so I began
to travel around the sword coast.

But, three weeks after Gorion’s dead, something
tragic happened. The main character, me, was a bit drunk, some beers… I thought
I was travelling safe… I meet that precious girl… Shoal… I prepared the party
to say hello to her… and then, I initiated a dialog expecting to say, with
polite gesture, that “I’m not interested in kisses”. She kissed me anyway, I
died. I did not remember!  In Vanilla BG
she kisses you anyway! I expected the MOD dialog where she turns red. This is
how I died, due the influence of alcohol I turned forgetful.

Game Over:

It was a BGT, BWS “total happiness” installation. No SCS tactics, and set to Core Rules. Beware: Npc Level1 is buggy with “let chose proficiency from SCS1”. I had to fix the mess with Shadowkeeper. As you can see I don’t use fog of war; since I know the maps by memory, I think that’s a tolerable convenience add-on. I did not like the spawn system and I felt that everything was too easy. But I did not get far...

I have some questions before my second try:

Witch MODs installations do you recommend? I’m thinking to switch from a total happiness installation to a “Recommended” BWS; but I’m reluctant to it because the experience cut from that XP cap component that is included.

Is there any MOD that makes the in game side portraits bigger for the game GUI? Widescreen Mod at 1280x800 makes it too tiny.

Finally, let me apologize for this long post.

@Ferganth I: Here's a couple of replies to your comments:
1) If you fought green slimes, then you must kill them fast. A character must save vs. death, and if they fail the character is chunked, there is nothing you can do about it if they fail their save.
2) MODs: You're the one who has to play it, play whatever you are comfortable with; e.g., if huge challenges are a must, use SCS, if you like the vanilla game, play vanilla (I do), if you need banter, install such mods, etc. The rules are pretty flexible at what mods are used by the players.

One of my past characters has died to Shoal as well...pays to remember she has the "kiss of death" so to speak...

Like Corey say, play as you like.
I think SCS is a must so I play with it. It's doable. You just have to be carefull and use everything (for example, I never scouted before, I never used ranger charm animal before, ...) Now I do ! I want to maximize chances of success.

@Corey: Green slimes chunk ? The green slimes for 65 XP ? I didn't now. I usually fight mustard jelly (2000xp) with Narcillus Harwilliger Neen (dialog 2 and 2).

Yes, those measly slimes chunk. It definitely pays to have your party's dwarf be the slimes attention, since dwarves have the best save vs. death. I usually fight the 2000 xp slimes also. There's some green slimes in the Thieve's maze, so pay attention to that if you have a party - at the very least, don't have the PC tank those things...

EDIT: Just thought I would mention the NPC/PC gets a +4 BONUS to save (so if normal save. vs. death is 10, you would only need 6 or higher to save etc.) vs. green slimes.

And we all agree with you. The experience is much richer this way. We are not gods who can rewind time. Much more interesting this way.

As others have said, its up to you. But I personally am fond of SCS and Item Randomiser. And of course the BG1 NPC project.

I'm not aware of one. One potential solution is to go for a slightly less wide resolution.

Best of luck with your next run!

Welcome to the Crew, Ferganth!
I agree with my comrades that it's up to you how to play the Game. SCS definitely makes it non-trivial (non-boring after Nth walkthroughs). Personally, I think, I'll never come back to vanilla. I haven't tried Item Randomiser as of yet but will try someday - it will *force* you to play all areas/encounters again for not to miss something.
In either way best of luck with whatever you choose!

Right now I'm installing a new game with some SCS components and other tweaks. It's almost a "Recommended" BWS installation. Only removed the component that protects party members to die irreversibly, hardened prices with "Aurora", and added that one that enables level up at maximum HP. In the last game I did not dare to put any SCS tactic component, however soon I missed "fast bears" and the "call for help" components.

While waiting for the installation, I'm reading NoReload experiences from this post, some are pretty good.

Thanks everyone for your answers, I appreciate it a lot.

Zacner II the level 9 conjurer - FINAL BG 1 Update!
Travleing with Kagain, Shar-Teel (dualed to thief at 4), Branwen, Imoen (dualed to mage at 6)

Sorry for the big post, but in my many years of BG play I have NEVER got a mage that couldn't at least wear leather through BG 1 - not even with reloads! So I'd like to document it well...

We were in Candlekeep Crypts - the real fight was of course Prat. We gave Kagain lots of buffs and he charged the oppponents - but before he did that, Imoen and Zacner II moved to different passage-ways and spammed their fireballs - kagain of course had 100% fire resistance - success and no deaths! Shar-Teel and Kagain fought the spiders on the right and Imoen got her last mage level (9) - every-one at their cap, time to skip fights if we can. Kagain soloed the basilisks with protection from petrification (spell) and the team was out.

Back in the Gate, the team traveled through the sewers only. First stop was the 5th floor Iron Throne (Cythandria). I tried a new tactic here - Zacner II and Imoen both fired cloudkill at Cythandria and ran way (party unbuffed). This didn't kill Cythandria and she even charged the party, only to be slaughtered in a single round of ranged fire. But what was fantastic was the ogres were killed immediately due to the cloudkills!

Slythe and Krystin were defeated primarily with magic missiles, wand of heavens and dispelling arrows.

We were very, very careful at the Duchal Palace fight. I turned on the auto-pause on target destroyed to be sure no one wasted actions. I didn't want to use summons, who could easily get the in the way, plus can't summon enough to protect the dukes to the summoning limits of EasyTutu. Thus, Zacner II opened with a dispel magic then group haste on the party. Kagain and Shar-Teel melee, Imoen a few missiles then arrows and Branwen a few shots of wand of heavens (which poofed) then +2 bullets. The fighting eventually stops but Belt doesn't talk to anyone. Ah, doppleganger in basement - report to Belt, but problem is we are right next to Sarevok and pinned in by walls! Kagain and Shar-Teel quickly take a beating but fortunately Sarevok has had enough - success!
Image IPB

Since we were at our level caps, Imoen and Zacner II put everyone invisible via spell and slipped past the enemies in the maze and the Undercity - time to rest and face my half-brother!

Intense Battle with Sarevok:

The party buffs to the max. I didn't want to use summons, plan was for Shar-Teel to solo Sarevok. However, she will have a much better chance if his haste can be dispelled. So Imoen approaches invisible and tries to dispel his buffs - fails. Sarevok and buddies charge Imoen. Trying to stay out of sight of the party, Imoen runs down the floor toward the entrance, she doesn't get much chance to shoot but she tries a couple shots but misses. By this time, Semaj is battling the party. The fighters use their darts to try to stay out of sight of Sarevok and Tazok and Aneglo. Imoen moves toward Sarevok's dais, but she is in big trouble, Aneglo fires a few arrows of explosions at her and she gulps an invis potion and runs - right.

Well, Sarevok and Tazok didn't appreciate Angelo's careless attacks and starting attacking Anegelo! Imoen stayed out of sight, she has no more invisibilities, and she is still badly hurt so she gulps a blue potion
Image IPB

Meanwhile, the rest of the party not doing well against Semaj - they take a few fireballs and such, and with no way to dispel his protections he lasts a long time. Zacner uses most of his magic missiles on Semaj. Semaj then puts a cloudkill on Branwen, Kagain, Shar-Teel and Zacner II! Uh, oh, run to the left - by this time Angelo is dead, but Sarevok and Tazok don't see us - well in our run to the web at left, Tazok must of spotted someone and charged us! Kagain tanks Tazok, while finally magic missiles from Zacner II and wand of heavens from Branwen (Imoen still hurt and healing) finally slay Semaj.

Shortly there-after, Tazok, Kagain, Branwen, Shar-Teel are caught in the web - yikes!
Image IPB
Due to potion of magic shielding Zacner II free to act - he starts pumping what few magic missiles he has left into Tazok every round - Imoen still healing and invisible. Kagain finally shakes off the web and swings his axe into Tazok and finishes him off.

Okay, just Sarevok left, to re-assess my position. Oh, all of Imoen's buffs are gone, she must have gotten de-buffed, no wonder she couldn't out-run Sarevok. She moved close enough to the party (still invisible) and some-one handed her a haste potion which she gulped. She tried a few more shots at Sarevok but still can't connect, so she runs in a circle around the Bhaal symbol - to try to give her a hand, everyone fires ranged at Sarevok except Shar-Teel who goes invisible via potion to wait for a chance to backstab. Uh, oh, Sarevok decides to ignore the ineffectual pink-haired girl and go for the rest of the party!

Time for a change of tactics. Imoen holds position to the far up and left and spams her arrows of dispelling, surely one will connect. Kagain switches to his +2 axe and charges Sarevok. Shar-Teel gets into position to backstab, and Zacner Ii tries a slow on the off chance it will do anything.

Shar-Teel does get a shank of steel into Sarevok and hides via potion once more but Kagain dying fast, real fast - Branwen moves up to heal, Kagain gulps a blue potion - Imoen out of stuff and has to settle for her bow and right about now Zacner II ran out of magic missiles.

Well it's not enough, Kagain is slain! Time for plan B! Branwen you are up next despite your injuries, she gulps a blue potion, Shar-Teel keeps backstabbing and going invisible (she has 5 invis potions beginning of fight). Zacner II is next in Sarevok's sights if Branwen falls! Time for some summons (via wand) - oh ogres, nice! Branwen does indeed fall - but Sarevok is near death!

Shar-Teel keeps working on her backstabbing ways - since the plan from the start for Shar-Teel to solo Sarevok, Zacner II decides to go invisible via spell and just wait this out. Well he didn't have to wait long, Shar-Teel finishes Sarevok!

Image IPB

This is my first mage through BG 1, even WITH reloads! Here is his final stats, being influenced by the claw of Kazagarath, which he plans to take with him in Amn plus his pantaloons...

I'll be joining you in Amn!

Sadly my paladin was chunked! :(

I couldn't find the person who starts the next quest, so after returning a necklace, we returned to the gate.

Coran got a bit too close to Sarevok! :(

Bardo couldn 't glug potions of healing fast enough when the potions of explosions started coming. (If that's what they were!) He had taken a potion of protection from fire too!

Yes, I had a trilogy no-reload go south in the Temple District sewers when a random encounter at one of the hexagonal intersections turned up with slimes. CHARNAME got held by something, and then a green slime hit him once...KABOOM, from almost full health.

Haplo II, half-elf cleric wild mage CG. (final update)

After defeating Narcillicus, we continued the exploration of the sword coast. We bring back Samuel to the FAI, reported to Berrun Ghastkill, and began the first part of BoneHill

Here, we were ambushed by Lamalha and the amazons. The fight was going well (despite we weren't able to disrupt an unholy blight on the team, that wounded Khalid, Kivan, Imoen and Haplo).
We had already killed Zila and in order to detect Telka and Maneira, Haplo casted detect invisibility.
The first wild surge in the run proved to be fatal, with an explosion centered on Haplo. Everyboby died (allies and enemies).

I will continue the game because Haplo is doing well, but of course I leave the challenge.
Already rolled a Fighter Illusionsit for a next attempt (not for now).

Entering Trilogy No-Reload Challenge (Solo for BG 1)

Well since Zacner II bit it yesterday, entered a new contender, a half-orc fighter. He's made tremendous progress, and is already level 7 and in chapter 4. He will probably be a party in BG 2 since his saves aren't so hot, but in BG 1 he can get by, by choosing which battles to fight and skip, and potions/scrolls to make up the difference.
