@Grond0 - Corgrunt is still alive, but was in the mood for a change of piece - had a character idea and didn't want to wait until Corgrunt dies/finishes. Besides, if Gate70 can have 2 runs concurrently, so can I right?
I created a Halfling solo assassin - here he is:

* dagger
* sling
* quarterstaff
Corkill Equipment:

Adventure to date:
* Candlekeep - Grond0 always seems to be able kill Firebeard with any of his characters, but I never seem to be able to unless arcane (blindness). If I could pull it off, could really help my stealth skills. So first Corkill does Firebeard's quest for the heal potion, then Corkill uses his poison skill and tries to backstab and connects - but Firebeard has lots of health left, so Corkill uses the clarity potion and goes outside and Firebeard follows. Firebeard tries to cast a spell but Corkill goes inside the Inn and up the stairs and hides - lots of inn people are hostile including Withrop, and they get in Corkill's way sometimes. In any case, Corkill goes downstairs, backstabs firebeard, runs, hides and repeats - took forever to kill firebeard with an plain dagger, but Corkill does succeed.
This got Corkill to level 3 (all points went into HIS and move silently) - but there was a catch - a Watcher was hostile! Hmm, hope the whole keep isn't hostile - Corkill decided he better just clear out of here and Gorion was willing to leave with Corkill.
Corkill let Imoen and Xzar and Montaron join very briefly to take important things from them then kicked them out. Corkill has some very expensive items to purchase (Shadow Armor, dagger of venom), and they will cost a bundle with his low reputation and charisma. Thus, the ring of wizardry is vital for his plans. So he heads to the Lion's Way to pick up the ring on the rock and runs for his life - he nearly bit there as the wolves got two hits on him but he did escape to FAI.
Ring of Wizardry picked up and it was night - hmm, maybe Corkill can use hit and run tactics to deal with Tarnesh. Corkill stood by a wall, threw a bullet at Tarnesh (connected) then moved out of sight and hid - Tarnesh was still blue circle for some reason. Corkill the moved by the Inn entrance and fired another bullet from the shadows - Tarnesh morale broke! One more bullet finished him - good FAI is now safe. Selling everything put Corkill at about 10,000 gold.
Corkill tried to get the ring for Joia - this took forever, partly due to critical misses, partly due to flat misses and also the low damage of backstabs - he eventually had enough and just used his sling and that was more effective in this case.
Corkill moved south of the Inn, using haste potion and his sling to take out the Ogre with the belt of piercing - was a bit hairy, lots of xvarts joined the fray, so Corkill picked up the belt and moved down to Beregost. He did the quests there that he could, but he had to use his last haste potion for Karlat and the spiders.
Basically, wherever he could, he would skip fights and pick up items to sell - took quite a while but he did eventually achieve his initial goals for his equipment.
I've never used the dagger or venom for a solo character, it's been interesting - damage not too high, but it's just been fantastic against casters - using his poison skill and dagger, Corkill has taken down Mulahey, Nimbul and Bassilus without the aid of the greenstone amulet.
The most dangerous thing he has done is probably sneaking past 2 groups of sirens, go into Pirate Alaric's cave, loot the stash, hide and run out of there.

Good luck Alesia! Would you mind posting your proficiencies? Normally in BG 1 they aren't terribly important, but solo and SCS I think they bear mentioning.
Sure.
Minsc's proficiencies weren't chosen on power grounds: they were chosen to be Minsc like. At start they were:
Two Weapon Style (x3), Flails (x2), Long Bows
While I'm not terribly fond of two handed swords for rangers, I should probably work on that next. I typically think of Minsc as a flail dual-wielder, but also a two-hander man.
Anyhoo. Best of luck with your run Corey!

Have fun Corey! Sounds like you're taking a page from Wewa's book, abusing those poor innocents in Candlekeep. I'm glad Gorion didn't decide to kill Corkill.

@Blind_Visionary: Well Wewa tried to pick-pocket a Tutor - apparently if you make a Tutor hostile, you make Gorion hostile. I wasn't trying to pick-pocket anyone, just experience from Firebeard - the tutors were more understanding of that apparently...

Alesia, I hate Minsc too. And I have ambiguous feelings about Boo. But I think you might be able to redeem them.
Yeah. I'm doing my best to love the unlovable here. He's finishing up BG1 now. Truth be told, I'm leaning toward ditching him rather than importing.
I suppose I could leave it up to a vote (Not that I imagine there would be many participants: It's not exactly a momentous issue...).
(Although I can't imagine what it would be like trying to RP a party composed of just the Minsc twins, unless you are really really excited about butt-kicking for goodness!)
I know right. One Minsc is too much. What do you do with two?
I like picturing the looks on their faces the moment they realize that they both have minature giant space hamsters named Boo, but that's about it...

Alesia - you're the one that has to play the character, if you're not enjoying it by all means create one that you will. So my vote is conditional - if you're enjoying Minsc, take him to BG 2, and if not, create a new character.

About 3-4 years ago I did a party of wild mages who used all their dweomers every day and had no other level 1 spells. I don't think they lasted very long.Blind_Visionary wrote...

Alesia, if you're not enjoying it don't bother (says he who has neglected the SCS Forteen challenge of late for that reason).

Corey, I usually find single weapon style better than a buckler for assassins. & when you said 2 runs you obviously weren't counting multiplayer.
Well I don't have any points to spend in that. I have one more point to spend at level 8 and that's for short bow (dispelling arrows, arrows of detonation possibly). I have a point in quarterstaff so I can deal with mustard jellies and probably use for Sarevok, and dagger/sling which was the basis of the build - thus the buckler stays.
No doubt single weapon style would be handy, just doesn't fit my game plan in this case. You are right, my MP run with Dogdancing is still going, however it's going at a glacial pace as Dogdancing doesn't have much time to play, so in effect feels like I only had Corgrunt going. Now I have two single player runs going, which I guess I what I should have said the first time to be clear...

Corkill had made good progress, including defeating Tranzig, Kirian's and Molkar's Parties, Basilisks, Mutamatin, Tazok, and the lackeys in Tazok's Tent - however, he got taken out by Silke
Corkill poisoned his dagger and backstabbed Silke - she survived, but was poisoned - amazingly, she managed to get a lightning bolt off - Corkill got hit, was alive, but was utterly dumbfounded - he didn't think she could do that while poisoned. Corkill was still dumbfounded and didn't' move when he could have and was in the same spot when the bolt bounced off a wall and killed him - RIP Corkill.
Guess I should get back to Corgrunt.

But what if I think learning to love Minsc will make me a better person?
(I'm joking of course. )
The Minsc idea occured to me when I found myself wanting to play Alora again. That run had been a lot of fun before I became weary in the underdark and I was hoping to find something similar. I considered simply re-doing Alora but then I felt like I wanted to try something other than a UAI rogue. Minsc seemed to hit the near-Alora mark as closely as anyone. Not nearly enough, however: he's just not doing it for me. I think I'll let him lie.
Anyhoo. Best of luck everyone! I'm sure I'll be back with another character soon.
Best,
A.

Instead of letting him lie, I think you should lead Minsc and his twin to a den of stinking evil where they should leave no crevice untouched. Maybe they should throw off their armor, lay down their weapons, and try to knock out Firkraag with their fists so that he can be properly interrogated by the dual space hamsters.... Let your imagination run wild.... as long as Minsc squared goes out in a blaze of glory.
"You point, I punch!"
"The bigger they are, the harder I hit!"

Alesia wouldn't have to go all the way Firkraag for that. The twins could just rest continously (checking every crevice) in the flesh golem cave in BG 1 (Black Alaric's treasure) - eventually the flesh golems would kill them.

I favor him over all the other characters in the game, simply because he is not overpowered - as I *HATE* being forced to min/max - as that takes away ANY shred of reality a game gives me. If I wanted to play a god, I would buy a game that was designed for that. I want real challenges in the form of classical rulesets that allow regular people to evolve and manage extraordinaire feats while being clear underdogs.
Anywho, 'tis a shame that so many of you do not see the Minsc I see, he has always been a follower in my "Good" campaigns, and I usually set him up front - just so I can hear his banther more often. Sure, I like being serious in my roleplay as much as the next guy, but his good-nature and happy-go-lucky view of life just brings a welcome change from the whole "I wear dark clothes and got a really spooky background story that has been done 1 billion times before".
Xzar is a *GREAT* character as well, I have to play through the game with those two in the same party one day.

Sorry to just chime in here all of a sudden, but I am actually quite suprised at how much negativity has surrounded the character Minsc in this thread. He is flawed, he is different - he is magnificent.
Understood. And I respect that. It's a viewpoint I can appreciate. I personally find Minsc irksome, but I understand why others enjoy his company. Long live Minsc!
Anyhoo. I hope it's clear that my intent wasn't to poke fun at Minsc or those who like him but, rather, to have fun with his character and hopefully come to appreciate him personally in the process. I have trouble liking Minsc but I'd like to like Minsc: That's what this was about. It just turned out I wasn't in the mood for it.
If anyone else would like to pilot Minsc to The Throne, I'll happily cheer him on.
Best,

Apologies if I gave any offense, Easymask. My post was intented to be good-natured teasing. I respect your fondness for Minsc. I've played with Minsc in many of my runs as well, and his sword has treated many an enemy with more gentleness than the big guy would have himself.

The day started normally enough... Dad sent a messenger to warn me of an adventure and I’d better be ready. A helmet, small shield, some leather & knife... well ok lots and lots of knives.
It’s a likable day outside so I did my chores quickly and remembered sister telling me about the chest up stairs with the gimpy lock but something stopped me from opening it despite the enticing glint of light coming from within, it appears that I’m just not a thief... don’t tell Imoen.
Having easily dispatched two would be assassins I was surprisingly confident until... well you know.
Imoen offered to join me but I couldn’t stand the idea of her getting hurt so I ran off like a silly child & almost didn’t see the diamond wedged in this tree until my expression was pasted alongside it. Slow down and keep your head on as my old fencing teacher would say before setting me on my backside.
FAI:

There was a powerful mage waiting for me & the honest tactician tells the truth that if not for the guards it would now be him writing in this journal. The up side is I’m not paranoid... they really are out there and trying to get me!
P.s thanks for the well wishes guys’ & IMO Easymask is right about the wacky Ranger not being the games prevalent prate... that dubious honour goes to Anomen.
