Together Immy & I travelled toward the Friendly Arm Inn (FAI) where we met a hermit who advised us to find & travel w/ likeminded companions. We did come across 2 adventurers who were obviously not so but I let them join w/me despite Imoen’s protestations. I wanted the extra help until we could reach the people Gorion had admonished me to find should we become parted – Khalid & Jaheira. Still it was obvious she had an accurate 6th sense about them & I was ready to part company w/them as soon as we arrived @ the FAI. I was hoping for strength in #s, while avoiding treachery from w/in. Still, the 2, Montaron & Xzar were useful in helping us dispose of ~ 10 Diseased Gibberling’s that accosted us near a crossroads in the Coast Way.
Key Event:When we arrived @ the FAI we were attacked by a Mage assassin named Tarnish which I know b/c I have his spellbook. In the battle, Montaron was of assistance while Xzar, w/o any spells remaining in memory could only use his dagger. Immy was helpful using her Wand of Magic Missiles very effectively to help weaken Tarnish. Tarnish did get off a ‘mind altering’ spell of some sort, Horror maybe, which sent me, Montaron & Xzar fleeing aimlessly. Immy continued to fight as did one of the FAI guards. Tarnish killed Xzar & then Immy w/MMs but, eventually the guard landed a blow that killed him but Immy’s assistance hitting Tarnish at least 3 times w/the WoMMs was critical. I immediately went into the FAI to seek help & found that there was a temple inside the FAI walls so I was able to have Gellana Mirrorshade, the priestess, cast Raise Dead on both Immy & Xzar.

I met and joined w/the Khalid, another Ranger, specialized in Archery & Jaheira, a Druid. Upon doing so, I released Montaron & Xzar from my service. I told Immy I didn’t need her either but its b/c I want to keep her safe. As usual, she took the news in her good natured, positive way. On the other hand, maybe I could watch out for her better if she were w/me. Ugh.
Treasure of note: Tarnish’s spellbook (MM, Web, Blind, Armor, F/Hands)
Current Disposition: Resting, resupplying @ the FAI.
Next Steps: Montaron & Xzar were headed to Nashkel & Jahiera & Khlaid want to go there too. I feel drawn there but I want to put together a formidable party too. Not sure what I’ll do in the morning.

The battle in the Ducal palace went well except for a few deaths.
Jet'Laya got chunked and the Liia was killed. Belt was left alive however.
Sarevok followed Dynaheir up the stairs and killed her and Imoen. He was followed by the guards and Belt. He couldn't reach Belt and the party could only reach Sarevok with ranged weapons. One member used the returning axe and another a sling with an endless amount of ammunition.
However the guy who teleports them away never turned up, and despite bombarding Sarevok for over half an hour with ammunition, he didn't die.
In the end I had to close the game.
What to do now?

The first won't work because his way down is blocked by hordes of soldiers. He is not upstairs but on the stairs leading to the door up.
Though I could CTRL Q them I suppose. However the second sounds more promising.
EDIT
Just realised that the reason that my party members died was that Winski couldn't arrive on the scene.
This may only appertain to my set-up, but it could be worthwhile ensuring that Sarevok doesn't go on the stairs just in case with all set-ups. It was quite annoying.

We made it to Beregost & after doing some business @ the smithy, headed to an inn, the Red Sheaf that had been recommended to us. Our guide said the place had a rough crowd but he didn’t say anything about assassin’s waiting @ the door. We battled a tough dwarf & it took us some work to take him down. We finally pushed into the tavern itself to gain some space. Then we spread out & I attacked w/my throwing axes, Jaheira w/her sling & Khalid & Immy w/arrows. After what seemed an eternity he fell.
After conducting some business we headed S along the N S Beregost Rd. My strategy to protect Immy went lacking quickly when we encountered 2 Ogrillons & after defeating 1 easily enough the 2nd caught Immy w/a blow & killed her. We finished him off & decided to push S toward Nashkel instead of back to Beregost – now down to 3 people.

One down & countin!
Key Event:After defeating a band of Hobgoblins we ran into some Kobolds & I rushed in to bring them to melee. Bad idea. Next thing I knew, I was w/Immy & we were hobbling back into Beregost having been raised by Kelddath Ormlyr, the priest @ the Temple of the Morning in Beregost.
Treasure of note: We grabbed a few scrolls that Immy seems to be relishing even though she’s a Thief/Swashbuckler. These were important in acquiring enough gold to raise both Immy & I. She still has Tarnish’s spellbook & a couple of others left but what she’ll do w/the, I don’t know.
Current Disposition: Resting back @ the Red Sheaf
Next Steps: Continue again toward Nashkel

With my present set-up I don't have that problem, just problems with bugs from DSoSC, an excellent mod but definitely buggy.
After the problem with what I think is a bug in the Ducal Palace, we took on a dragon near Nashkel, We won, but at a price! My new paladin friend got chunked and then it turned its attention on the rest of us. Dynaheir also got chunked.
However, the dragon also got chunked!
I am now worthy of the name Dragonslayer.
According to the game I am now called Dragonslayer Dragon Slayer.
We then went off to pick up some allies and deal with the Dark One.
One of the allies was an excellent ranger from DSoSC. He can't use ranged weapons, but the sword that he does use makes up for it. We also went down the mines to pick up a mage called Xan who was still waiting there. Sadly he has less than a third of the experience that the rest of us have.
We used summoned monsters to use up some of the Dark One's spells and then moved in.
That battle was easy, but we then had to enter the building with poisonous phase spiders. my new friend from DSoSC, this time a thief got poisoned and died which meant leaving his equipment in a chest and returning later to pick it up.
That was where another bug kicked in. We had the phalactire, killed the Dark One, picked up the bottles that you are supposed to give to the phantoms, but they weren't talking!
Thus we missed out on the experience plus any reward we might have got.
I don't know if there is one for that.
We are now supposed to go to some citadel to find a baby.
I'll see how it goes.

Max - lvl 5 elven Mage (part 6)
Handicaps - solo, no wands, no protection scrolls, no running from fights
Max decides to get some company on his travels and gives the young bard Garrick a chance for some adventuring. On their way to the coastline they get ambushed by a bunch of bandits and worgs and Max just barely manages to keep the inexperienced Garrick alive by giving him an invisibility potion when he was low HP. A rough start for the young bard but Max believes he has the potential needed to accompany him on his quest.
North Sword Coast
Upon arrival to the north sword coast they run into a beautiful nymph who offers a kiss in exchange for companionship but Max politely declines knowing that these creatures cannot be trusted. Garrick however, is unable to resist her charms and gladly accepts her kiss after which he falls dead to the ground. Max reacts and throws a volley of magic missiles at her until she agrees to raise his compatriot back from the dead. A very confused Garrick comes back to life and Max immediately relieves him of his services and tells him to go home before he gets himself killed, again. As the foolish young bard runs away, an Ogre Mage appears and attacks Max but is easily defeated by a number of magic missiles. Upon his death, the nymph thanks Max for freeing her from his grasp and disappears into the night. Along the coastline Max also runs into a few hostile sirines who fall prey to Power Word Sleep and a couple of Skull Traps.
Temple of Lathander
Next up, Max decides to cash in on his Bassilus bounty and gets a whopping 5K gold for his troubles and a thanks from Kelddath Ormlyr of the Song of the Morning temple. Max proceeds to clear the area around the temple which was infested with various wolves, especially a couple of vampiric ones. They are very tough to kill and only go down after a full barrage of magic missiles and skull traps. Feeling pretty rich, Max buys a Dagger of Venom from the Beregost smithy and looks forward to "backstabbing" some foes with the help of the Invisibility spell.
Firewine Plains
This area was absolutely infested with wolves, Max killed about 30 of them or so, and a bunch of ogres and half-ogres on top of that too. They easily fall to a Grease spell which sets them up nicely for a couple of Skull Traps. For his troubles Max gets a level up and access to level 4 spells even though he doesn't have any at this very moment.

Valley of the Tombs
Max encounters a powerful Revenant who has a special ranged stun so he has down a Potion of Freedom before even thinking of fighting him. The undead creature goes down after a ton of magic missiles and skull traps and leaves Max with a nice Dagger +2. Shortly after Max runs into a mage accompanied by a couple of Mustard Jellies. Max uses Invisibility on himself and stabs the mage with his venomous dagger and watches the poor guy bleed to death. Mustard Jellies on the other hand were much harder to defeat, as they are completely immune to magic and almost all melee and ranged attacks. Since throwing dagger was only doing a single point of damage each attack Max decided to use a Sling +1 and 50 Sunstone bullets that he has been saving for special occasions such as this. It took about 30 Sunstone bullets but the jellies eventually die. In one of the tombs in the area Max finds an awesome Wand of Monster Summoning BUT AGAIN NO MANUAL TO GO ALONG WITH IT. Oh well, he sells the wand to Thalantyr once again for a hefty price and decides to upgrade his Dagger of Venom with the profits. His dagger is now +3 and grants an additional attack per round with a chance to poison and slow the victim. A very powerful weapon indeed, too bad Max can only melee a Gibberling with it.
The Cloudpeaks
Max runs into 2 hostile groups of Amn mercenaries. They were all stabbed to death with his newly-upgraded dagger after being disabled with Hold Person and Power Word Sleep. Later on Max gets ambushed by a powerful Vampiric Wolf Lord who also has some fear spells in his arsenal but nothing a Remove Fear can't handle. The mighty wolf goes down after Max nearly depleting his entire offensive arsenal, but it does go down eventually. Max also finds a scroll of Cloudkill hidden in some grass, an extremely powerful level 5 spell but it will be some time before he can actually use it.

Western Cloudpeaks
Phew. Max had become complacent and after a long time had another close call in a battle with some wolves. He casted Grease on them and wanted to poke them with his dagger from the edges of the grease-affected area but accidentally stepped into it and fell down unconscious. It was only after 4 rounds that he managed to save against his own spell to get out of it, but not after receiving several wolf bites leaving him with only about 25 hp. Before continuing on his way, Max kills a bunch of cave bears with the help of Lightning (spell he pickup up from a tough group of kobolds earlier) which is a good counter to their massive hp pools because it deals a ton of single target damage, especially if they fail the save against it.

Current entry is a human male stalker. He's helped Joia, Firebead, Marl, Brage, a woodland dryad, Samuel, Mrs Joseph, Ardrouine, Mirianne, Prism, the mayor of Nashkel and Officer Vai to date. The basilisks have been backstabbed without mercy, Mutamin couldn't deal with a charmed bear and Kirian's gang dealt with two so they were stabbed and shot into submission - Peter being distracted by Korax the ghoul but backstabbed before the decoy closed in for melee.
A sirine poisoned him and at double normal speed I was slow to notice so used the scroll of protection from poison. The remaining sirines were no problem and three flesh golems were cut down from the shadows. Mulahey went down without getting a spell out, Nimbul and Tranzig were both backstabbed without turning hostile.
The bandits were all backstabbed apart from Taugosz Khosann who fought back and forced the use of two arrows of biting. Venkt managed to mirror but dual-wielding meant he failed to get another spell cast.
Potion of clarity - sirines
Greenstone amulet charges - Mulahey, Venkt.
Equipment. Studded leather, helm, Varscona sword +2 / sword +1, shortbow, ring of protection +1, ring of fire resistance, all 3 girdles, boots of stealth / avoidance / grounding, cloak of displacement, greenstone amulet, bracers of dexterity.
103 kills (greater basilisk), level 7, 84hp. Started with rolls of 7, 13, 11, 14 plus a tome.

I'm wondering:
If you have BGT installed, are restoration spells available for clerics, and if so, at what level? Also is restoration available at temples?
Jet lent her amulet to the paladin who got chunked and it wasn't amongst his remains.
In answer to CKT's question, DSoSC does not have dragons, only one, AFAIK. However, you are given the means to defeat them. I just wish that the gear could be taken into Amn.
It's not that overpowered, but it would certainly make the start of SoA easier and the maces would certainly be great against the undead.
We went to Durlag's Tower. Tried to kill the Dragonknight at the top of the tower, but thise time was unable to finish him off. Have killed Love, Fear, Avarice and a dwarf whose name I have forgotten.
So now down to the lower reaches.

Spell level 4 available (Lesser restoration) at level 7 for clerics (55000 XP).
Maybe "Raise dead" (level 5, available for level 9 clerics at 225000) is also OK ?
In my installation, it's also available in temples, but it's probably a mod (other than BGT, maybe SCS ?!).
Item Revision provides also potion for these inconveniences (restoration potions, replace potions of mind focusing)

Max - lvl 8 elven mage (part 7)
Handicaps - solo, no wands, no protection scrolls, no running from fights
Fishing Village
This entire area was infested with Ankhegs so Max did a little population control by killing about a dozen of them or so, mostly with the help of Power Word Sleep and Lightning. He tried to melee them with his fancy dagger but after getting hit for a ton of damage after just one attack he quickly changed his mind.

Wyrm's Crossing
Max helped a young Talos priestess called Tenya exact some revenge (or justice depending on how you look at it) on some greedy fishermen. Wyrm's Crossing however was closed and the entrance to Baldur's Gate was sealed off because of all the bandit raids so Max will have to turn his attention to those matters very soon.
Farmlands
This area was suffering from a major zombie infestation so Max cleared them all out with a lot of skull traps and magic missiles and received a Cloak of Protection as payment from a very grateful farmer. Since he was so close to Ulgoth's Beard Max decided to swing by to see if the merchants there had any level 4 or 5 scrolls for sale. The local inkeeper only had a handful of them but Max wasn't complaining as he bought all of them, with most notable ones being Polymorph Other, Improved Invisibility, Shadow Door and his first summoner spell ever Summon Shadow.

Sword Coast
Max found a bunch of Sirines in this area but they weren't much of a threat because Improved Invisibility meant they couldn't target Max with their charm spells. Shortly after Max ran into his first ever troll (a sea troll to be exact), a giant creature with great regenerative powers. Luckily, Max had a polymorph spell ready and transformed the beast into a harmless squirrel which he stabbed to death with his dagger. Next up Max decides to explore the lighthouse and once inside gets ambushed by a gang of pirates who completely surround and trap him in a very tight space. With nowhere to go Max casts Shadow Door on himself and all but one pirate fail their saves and become trapped in an extradimensional room for a few rounds. Max then quickly deals with the sole pirate before moving on to his friends who one by one start reappearing each round. After all that action, Max gets a level up and access to level 5 spells so Cloudkill finally becomes available! Before moving on Max finds a few Flesh Golems in a nearby cave and has to kill them with his Throwing Dagger +1 since they are immune to magic, which took quite a while.

Xvart Village
Even more action awaited Max in this area along with another close call or two, carelessness will be the death of him one day. He foolishly got stuck between a bear and hard place (screenshot below) by letting himself get surrounded by a massive horde of Xvarts who summoned Ursa the cave bear right on top of him. He popped an invisibility potion and tried to cast cloudkill but was interrupted in his attempt, so he quickly had to go invisible again and heal up before trying again. Luckily, the second and last casting of cloudkill was successful (albeit with the help of potions of defense and absorption) and most of the Xvart horde drops dead at the first sniff of the deadly cloud. Max then proceeds to deal with the remaining cave bears with the help of Lightning and Polymorph Other before running into a dodgy merchant called Borda who tried to sell him cursed items and scrolls. A difficult battle ensued mostly because Borda seemed to be completely immune to magic but extremely familiar with it himself, which seemed a tad bit unfair. Max was forced to change his tactics so he goes invisible and summons shadows to attack Borda who proceeds to waste his own spells on them. What happened next was a very close call and only by sheer luck does Max survive to tell about it. The improved invisibility that Max casted on himself wore off (he didn't notice because of Blur spell effect) so Borda targeted him with Lightning which hit Max very hard taking most of his HP away. Before Max could properly react Borda launched another Lightning which should definitely have killed Max but he saved against it and only received half of the damage (screenshot below). Phew. So he healed up and let his shadows do the work for him even though they seemed to be very poor melee fighters. But all of a sudden Borda gets chunked even though he was only slightly wounded, which caught Max (and his narrator) completely by surprise. Apparently the 5 shadows drained the poor guy's attributes below 0 thus killing him on the spot before disappearing on the next round.

A bit more stalking. Meilum settles for second best.
Drasus almost forced a retreat but chunked first in melee. Rezdan took two poison arrows before Kysus was back-chunked. Genthore didn't enjoy the round-the-corners backstabathon. Sneaky sneaky right down to Davaeorn so his two battle horrors could be backstabbed then the mage ignores his spells and goes for melee - meaning the greenstone amulet charge is overkill.
Some tomes (dexterity, temple wisdom, intelligence and Durlags wisdom) are read, leaving only two to find. The helm and cloak of Balduran are picked up, Marek convinced to hand over his shortbow which is stashed with the fire protection ring.
Zhalimar Cloudewulfe and co will have to deal with two green scrolls (PfM and PfPoison) plus potions of defence, heroism, storm giant strength and speed. I took a video of this but it was just cutting them down in order Zhalimar > Gardush > doppelganger > casters.
Dael is at 81/108hp, paused, ready for a race into Candlekeep tombs - hence the earlier poison protection. The only items he will loot are the ring of free action and the two letters.

Posté 03 juillet 2013 - 08:39
Dael returns to Duke Eltan, hands over the evidence and is teleported to Candlekeep. Home sweet home - wait a minute I don't live here.
There is just time to pick up a ring from Koveras, two magical tomes, a few gems, potions and scrolls before killing a fake Elminster. Prat and his gang are next, then after a rest the two tomes are read and various items identified, sold or readied. Slythe reluctantly hands over an invite to the coronation and some evidence of Sarevok's plan.
PfM > 2x mind focus > storm giant strength > heroism > invulnerability > speed > power. The doppelgangers are shredded while Belt and Liia both survive.
The thieves maze is a minor distraction, neither doom guards or skeleton warriors landing a blow - unlike a mustard jelly which does minor damage. Rahvin and his gang fail to spot the stalker running through their midst and into the once abandoned temple.
Sarevok looks up as an arrow whistles past, calling his companions to arms. Dael has hidden so Sarevok starts looking behind pillars. Angelo has landed a remove magic, but Dael realises his buffs are mostly intact - due to the invulnerability potion perhaps.
Dael attacks Angelo then Tazok and back to Angelo.

Now it is time for Tazok.

Semaj has teleported closer to Sarevok so Dael lures him back and manages to out-melee a lightning bolt to kill the mage.

A second arrow of dispelling misses Sarevok but the third connects. Dael could switch to melee and attack from the shadows but instead he uses the 17 acid arrows to take Sarevok to badly wounded. A few arrows of biting take him to deaths door, but her survives a backstab. Dael decides to stay close and lands a second hit. Ouch.

Dael now has to retrieve Koveras' ring from outside Sorcerous Sundries and the golden pantaloons (either with the nobleman or outside the Jovial Juggler).
Edit
Rahvin and his gang had a good go on the way out but not good enough. Tarnesh had to be killed on the way in to the FAI inn to pick up the pantaloons - and while there Unshey picked up a girdle for 800xp!
Off to Amn.

Btw I've never actually finished BG1 without dying before, I did come close a few times but complacency, carelessness and sometimes just pure stupidity got the better of me every time. This is my solo ironman career so far:
My Archer stupidly died near the very end to a hold person from a kobold shaman in the sewers.
My FM Dartsman got stunned by the Revenant's special ranged attack and killed.
My first Mage got petrified by a basilisk in Durlag's Tower because the potion ran out.
My second Mage got oneshot by a Flame Strike from Bassilus which did an absurd amount of damage.
My third Mage got ability score drained by Kirinhale in Durlag's Tower and died on the spot.
My fourth Mage "died" to a Shadow Door in the Oberon estate because he was standing too close to one of the girl mages who casted it.

The only battle of note was the chess board.
We got transported there before we had completed all the rooms with the result that we arrived unbuffed. We still won, but Jet'Laya and Xan both got killed.
Furryfoot my thief got panicked and set of the lightning, but that actually worked in our favour as it did more harm to the enemy than to us.
We returned to civilization to raise the dead and completed the dungeon easily.
On going to Ulgoth's Beard realised that I had forgotten to go to Dalton's mother first. Lost experience!
Mistimed the battle against the cult with the result that ALL the priests were killed so again missed out on experience!
At the top of the tower, we tried to kill the Dragonknight, but this time he escaped when Otiluke's sphere wore off.
Now do I try the citadel or chicken out?
