Zal and Vax are dealt with on the way to Greywolf, along with a pair of winter wolves. Redsai takes a convincing lead, being the first to die for a second time, missing out on a share of much xp (Greywolf 1400, Prism 1000 and Oublek 200).

Greywolf survives the first 5-kai attack so we resort to running when hit so he switches targets. Nomesai glugged 1 healer, Halfsai a second and Redsai a third before Greywolf turns back to him for a second bite.

Astel (+13) and Nomesai (+14) gain their 3rd level as Arghain tries a Redsai kkkkkai bait for size.

Astel, kensai 3. 32hp. 9 kills, Greywolf.
Kensette, kensai 2. 27hp. 15 kills, Neira. 1 death.
Nomesai, kensai 3. 33hp. 13 kills, Vax. 1 death (a bonus from Shoal).
Halfsai, kensai 2. 23hp. 9 kills, Bassilus. 1 death.
Redsai, kensai 2. 21hp. 22 kills, winter wolf. 2 deaths.
Erral, swashbuckler 3. 21hp. 13 kills, winter wolf.

"260 throwing axes please" says Astel as Kensette says she can carry a few more, but that would be greedy. Erral purchases a few arrows then we pick up a scroll to protect against petrification and buy a shield amulet for good measure. None of us are even proficient with axes but that's just a minor detail.

Halfsai and Redsai have the best saves against poison, the halfling deciding to take point so the dwarf can hurl axes instead. He and Kensette immediately reach level 3 as we kill a lesser basilisk, while Astel suggests the halfling should use an amulet charge. Good point, and his armour class drops from 3 to -3.

3 blue healing potions are enough to help him as we clear the area of basilisks, at one point he runs around in a panic as we de-mirror and eliminate Mutamin. We could probably deal with Kirian but decide to wait a while.

Astel, kensai 4. 46hp. 12 kills, Greywolf.
Kensette, kensai 4. 46hp. 16 kills, Neira. 1 death.
Nomesai, kensai 4. 47hp. 16 kills, Lesser basilisk. 1 death (a bonus from Shoal).
Halfsai, kensai 4. 43hp. 13 kills, Greater basilisk. 1 death.
Redsai, kensai 3. 30hp. 24 kills, Lesser basilisk. 2 deaths.
Erral, swashbuckler 4. 28hp. 14 kills, Greater basilisk.

Tiamat Redux {2} - elf wild mage (update 3)

Tiamat has pretty much finished his preparations and started progressing on the main quest.

At the Carnival he bought the amulet of shielding and then took a trip to the lighthouse - burnt up the necklace of missiles on some worgs there.  3 blasts from the wand of frost and 1 from wand of fire (along with uses of green/shield amulets) was enough for the first sirene group. 1 frost and 2 fire killed Sil and 1 of her companions.  I tried using missiles to finish the last one off, but it got 2 critical hits in succession to nearly kill Tiamat and he had to run and glug before finishing her off.  After a trip to High Hedge to get some magical ammunition Tiamat came back to deal with the golems (level 8 - and a welcome 6 HPs).

2 frost blasts accounted for all of the ogre tribe in Shoal's area and 3 more softened up the sirenes in the area for the kill.  Another 3 cleared a couple of battle horrors out of the way at Durlag's Tower on the way to collect the tome there (remembering to use the green amulet for trap protection).  A greater doppleganger looked like more of a challenge, but some summoned ogres were just enough to do the job.

To free up inventory space, sold wands of fear and sleep and ring of fire resistance and then went to Nashkel mine.  Going down invisibly to Mulahey a frost blast had him running and a few darts finished him off.

I didn't have a strength scroll so left Joseph's ring near his house and went to confront Nimbul - who wasn't there.  I realised I must have dropped Mulahey's letters without unpausing the game, so went back to the mine to do the chapter change trigger.  Then trudged back to Nimbul to give him a warm greeting with a wand scorcher.  That had him running immediately, but he sneakily dodged into the inn - which prevented the second round of scorcher damage that would have killed him.  Following him in I forgot that Neira would be waiting and that introduced a potentially dangerous sequence of dodging in and out while 2 opponents were trying to target him with spells.  However, eventually she was dead (actually finished off by a guard) and Tiamat was able to use shield to defend against magic missiles and complete the job on Nimbul.

Tranzig was stunned by a first use of wand of paralysation and Tiamat moved on to the bandit camp.  A web scroll there set things up for the frost wand and some finishing darts.  A potion of absorption protected against the trapped chest.  The loot from the tent funded the purchase of the Claw of Kazgoroth.

Went invisibly through the Cloakwood and tried to use the cloudkill scroll on the party at the mine.  Rather meanly though they all moved just outside its radius.  A fireball persuaded Drasus to chase Tiamat, but he ran into the wand of paralysation.  Some ogre summons distracted Kysus while he was finished with a fireball and Genthore was also paralysed.  Rezdan, now out of spells, was polished off with darts.

Stats:
Tiamat, Wild Mage L8, 45 HPs, kills 171

We buy a 2nd bastard sword +1 for Redsai and a short sword +1 for Halfsai. Neville donates a long sword +1 to Astel and Nomesai takes the Ashideena warhammer for emergencies as we're not venturing into Durlags Tower for any of the magical scimitars nor are we going to hunt down any friendly drow for theirs.

Erral pings an ankheg with his arrow and as we converge Nomesai is first to close in. His first hit is followed by a hit from Halfsai then an offhand from Nomesai sees the ankheg collapse before the battle has really started.

Nomesai uses a cloak of displacement, girdle of piercing, potion of clarity, potion of heroism, potion of hill giant strength and an amulet shield charge to deal with Sil and five other sirines as we add axes and arrows.

He switches to the girdle of bluntness and leads non-proficiently as we melee some flesh golems. He has 49/51hp so a critical hit would be troublesome, but all 3 are quickly killed before they can hit him.

Redsai takes the tome of bodily health: 20, regeneration.

Astel, kensai 4. 46hp. 18 kills, Sil.
Kensette, kensai 4. 46hp. 20 kills, Sirine. 1 death.
Nomesai, kensai 4. 47hp. 25 kills, Sirine. 1 death (a bonus from Shoal).
Halfsai, kensai 4. 43hp. 17 kills, Greater basilisk. 1 death.
Redsai, kensai 4. 43hp. 27 kills, Sirine. 2 deaths.
Erral, swashbuckler 5. 36hp. 15 kills, Greater basilisk.

Mulahey tries to run but there isn't much room and the repeated blows finish him off before he can barge his way out. His minions are quickly cut down too and then it is time for something more problematic.

Erral draws Maneira and Telka briefly away before being charmed. This has allowed Redsai in to Zeela as the rest of us hurl an axe each then switch to melee. A glyph of warding wounds us but kills Zeela so we switch to Lamahla as Nomesai is poisoned.
Posted Image

He moves in to Maneira and Telka and is poisoned again so glugs a second elixir of health to keep him alive long enough for Astel to kill Lamahla and we move to help him. Telka is Kensetted  but Nomesai has to move away just as Redsai kills Maneira. Meanwhile erral is to the east, still charmed.

Tiamat Redux {2} - elf wild mage (update 4)

Tiamat's still going and is currently enjoying the sights of Baldur's Gate, though he had a torrid time in getting there.

Using the ring for invisibility requires that you rest after talking to the slaves near Hareishan.  To be safe in doing that you need to go back to the entrance to the area, but I tend to be lazy and take a chance.  That was nearly costly this time as Tiamat got trapped in a cell with 2 large groups of guards waiting for her.
Posted Image

3 wand scorchers disposed of most of those and some summons were intended to deal with the last few and the ghasts.  However, Tiamat was attacked unexpectedly while doing that and held by the first ghast.  It was killed almost instantly, but the remaining summons were unable to lead the other ghast far enough up the corridor to be out of sight.  However, they did last just long enough for Tiamat to wake up to the sight of a ghast bearing down on him - a frosty blast and a dart finished it off.  Tiamat also got to level 9 during these encounters.

Tiamat eventually succeeded in resting without resorting to a potion of invisibility and proceeded on down to Daveorn.  The guard was paralysed, then the battle horrors left in a side room when Tiamat went invisible.  Daveorn was confronted using 2 potions of magic blocking for protection and was darted to death.  With no need for XP the battle horrors were left alone.

In Baldur's Gate Tiamat collected the tomes and spent all his money on recharging wands of monster summoning and fire - using a combination of those on Jalantha, Marek and Ramazith (used scroll of strength to open Ramazith's Tower).

Stats:
Tiamat, Wild Mage L9, 49 HPs, kills 205

What''s odd is despite having two healers in the party, we have consumed all the blue potions from the Nashkel, FAI and Beregost temples. We even have bought a large number for Durlag's merchant. The baslisks area very heavily depleted out heal potions, mainly due to Mutamutin. I had planned to use Korax but he got killed by taslois...so Khalid had no choice but to take massive amount of damage from Mutamin's spells...Jaheira had to move up to assist him, but amazingly Khalid survived with a sliver of health. Khalid was able to rest of the area himself.

Oh forgot to mention, the team destroyed Kirian's party web/2x fireball/assassin poison and darts of wounding from Khalid were way too much for the enemy to handle. However, they managed to confuse Khalid and Khalid was firing those mean darts at us! The party fled and luckily Khalid didn't wander into any baslisks (he wasn't protected yet). Shar-Teel also joined our group to help us with traps in the Cloakwood - we dualed her immediately in Beregost.

Tiamat Redux {2} - elf wild mage (update 5)

Tiamat investigated the Iron Throne invisibly and took a trip to Candlekeep.  Two knock scrolls and DUHM allowed him to loot the 3 tombs (a magic blocking potion and a MGoI scroll protecting him and the wand of fire accounting for the spiders) before he left invisibly.

Back in the city Slythe was pulled away from Krystin and a mixture of summons and wand of paralysation accounted for him.  Tiamat had a bit of trouble sleeping outside prior to the palace - 53 guards being pulled out of the garrison searching for vagrants before he finally got a good night's rest.

At the palace he pulled the dopplegangers upstairs and used wand scorchers and a few darts on them.

Tiamat went through the maze invisibly, using green scroll protection, and proceeded to the temple.  Sarevok was pulled out from his allies and delayed by summons while Tiamat used a greater malison scroll and then wand of paralysation.  The second attempt from that succeeded, but (not to my surprise) Sarevok proved immune.  A couple of skull trap scrolls cast at his feet did a bit of damage and 3 magic missile spells a bit more.  Then Tiamat used the rest of his summoning wand up to bring successive groups in for Sarevok to brutalise, while he used darts and consumed the rest of his wand of fire with scorchers.  By the end of that Sarevok was at near death and I seriously considered trying to finish him off with magic missile spells.  However, I chickened out in the end and just ran him round shooting (which still took a while).

Here's Tiamat back at the palace talking to Belt about what needs doing next.

There were only 2 arcane spells used during the run, although I did also use Bhaal abilities a few times, which have a chance of a surge - the only surge I noted was one saying that the spell cast with no chance of a save.

Astel mistimed a cure poison last night and thought he'd outlast the effects of multiple hits. By the time he decided a couple of blue potions weren't going to do the job with 4 damage a go there was no way to add a green one in time.

Congratulations Grond0.

Quetzal - elf wild mage (update 1)

After Tiamat failed to get too far in BG2 I thought I would have another attempt with a  wild mage.  I decided Tiamat had had quite enough chances so rolled up a character with a fresh portrait - here she is.
Posted Image

Rather than the previous item-based run the intention this time is for Tiamat to rely primarily on her inherent skills and the use of her familiar - so she will need a bit more luck with if she's to survive.

You just need to read the description of the Wand: Ability 1 - Fireball, Ability 2 - Scorcher.

I just double-checked - that is of no help. On that screen it says Fireball wand in both slots. It does NOT tell me what abilities they are in my version of EasyTutu. I just have to guess. It does tell me in my BG 2 install.

EDIT: Perhaps a screenshot can help you guys understand:

 Corthief II Half-Elf assassin Update
Traveling with: Jaheira, Khalid, Shar-Teel (dualed to thief at level 6), Imoen (dueled to mage at level 6) and Garrick

The team has explored and defeated the entire Sword Coast, even parts of Durlag Tower. Incidents of note:

1) Bassilus defeated by ranged fire, a fireball, and a scorcher - that Imoen aimed right through Jaheira! She died and had to be resurrected - Khalid over-reacted as always at her death.
2) Garrick gets the kill shot on the Doomsayer with a scorcher. Magic missiles from Imoen and Garrick did most of the work - poor Corthief II could no damage at all to this thing.
Posted Image
3) We paid a stop by Durlag's for two reasons - to get experience to unlock Imoen's thief abilities (or to help rather, she still isn't unlocked), and to get much needed loot. Cash has been pretty tight this run, partly because we have LITERALLY bought every blue potion in existence - all 4 temples, Ulgoth's Beard and Durlag merchant. Khalid and Jaheira take a lot of potions to keep in one piece, apparently.

WEAPONS of CHOICE:
Khalid: Basterd Sword +1 (kill leader: 29% of all kills)
Jaheira: +2 Scimitar
Shar-Teel: +1 short bow
Corthief: short bow
Imoen: +1 sling
Garrick: long bow of Markmanship

I believe what Serg is trying to say is that you should find that the top one, ability 1, is the fireball and that the bottom one, ability 2, is the scorcher- as per the description.

I agree that it should be explicit though: it is in my Tutu install.

Yeah. It is still a touch underspecified since you have to infer that the first one, the top one, is ability one and that the second one, the bottom one, is ability two. It's not a big leap, but a leap nonetheless. Were I in your shoes, I still would have tested in a safe environment- even after having read the description.

Anyhoo. All I was trying to do here was clarify what Serg was saying.

Now seems like a good time for us to focus back on Corthief's run. :)

Best,

A.

The way I check which ability I have loaded without going back to the descriptions is to move the cursor to target the spell not on a creature/object - if that's shown as a legitimate target then it's a fireball, if not then it's a scorcher.

Gorion tells me to take copious notes of my 15hp, then dies in an ambush.
Posted Image

Candlekeep + Marl + Firebead + Noober = +12hp.
Brage + Oublek + Joseph (had to drop 14 axes, oops) + Joia = +6hp + * axe.
Shoal (7 axes required with a THACO of 15 and starting with a kai) = +6hp.

Level 4, 39hp, 9 kills (Carbos, Shank, 5 rats, Joia's hobgoblin and Shoal). Almost a pacifist kensai, and the HP's are way down on my last couple of solo kensai characters but I recognised at the time they'd had upper-end rolls.

There is a note tucked into my journal, looks like the old man has some more advice for me. Something about being calm and in control, and a note about staying away from foreign Amnish spellcasters with nasty spells. Time will tell.

(& Melicamp, Unsheys ogre, Caldo, Krumm, a winter wolf, a dire wolf, Neville & Mirianne = +10hp)

Makes sense.

You can also right click on the quickslot icon and see which abilitiy is selected there. The target test is a good way of confirming without using charges.
