@Corey. Enjoy your M/T! (Out of curioustity: What inspired you to choose the name Huron?)

Unless my character is named after family or friend, my character names are chosen utterly at random. Huron is not a friend or family, thus is utterly chosen at random (using the random generator in my noggin). I do know of a Huron in an ancient DOS game, Masters of Magic, but my Huron isn't named after him per se.

As for portrait, none of my current portraits of myself look like a mage/thief, so I did a google search for an image and made it work for my BG game. Speaking of which, it took quite a while to get everything right so the potrait could be seen in BG (I had it as jpg instead of the require bmp format).

EDIT: Even though a thief/illusionist might be a more resilient character due to the saves, I chose half-elf, as my potrait can pass for a half-elf, but not for a gnome.

No connection with the American Indian Huron then - the portrait looked like it might have had a possible connection.

As for Masters of Magic you've obviously got an impressive memory to make that linkPosted Image.  The graphics are dated for that game, but it's still very good (and easily playable on modern computers via GOG).

Thanks, but it should only be expected I should remember Huron. Why? Because of the many games  played Masters of Magic, I ALWAYS chose him as he was the white (good) magic. And of course High Men for their paladins.
And I've played the game less than a year ago, it's installed on my computer...I agree with you on the assessment of the game, it's excellent, playable today, though a bit buggy...

Cusp - dwarf swashbuckler (hour 2)

Cusp continued to make pretty serene progress - he was hit once in that session (also hit once in the first hour).  Things done included:
- fobbing Oublek off with a single emerald.
- killing some xvarts for Hulrik.
- a single trap and one necklace blast supplemented lots of running and shooting for Meilum (would have been more traps except for the difficulty of resting in Firewine Bridge).  Attempted to pickpocket Bentan without success and ran away.
- shot all the basilisks and then Mutamin (not letting him near enough to talk), but left Kirian & co for now.
- shot the belt ogre and a few wolves and xvarts that attempted to intervene.
- trapped Tarnesh, returned Landrin's goods, helped Joia and picked up pantaloons.
- Melicamp transformed into a meal (finger-lickin good).
- Bjornin was pleased to hear of the fate of some half-ogres.
- Sendai & co and Zal & Vax were all trapped.  Returned Rufie.
- Caldo was trapped & Krumm shot down.
- Brage was persuaded to return to the temple.
- finally, Cusp staggered under Samuel's weight all the way back to the FAI.

Cusp - swashbuckler L7, 41 HPs, 73 kills
A better pair of level-ups in that session - bringing Cusp back up to average HPs.

Huron the solo level 5 mage/6 thief update - Chapter 3
Huron, Half-Elf, 36 HP

Huron continues to make progress. Huron avoids melee fights whenever possible, preferring hit and run tactics or immobizing enemies.

After getting his greenstone amulet, he finally decided to deal with Neira. His blindness failed..uh, oh. Well his amulet was protecting him from her disabling spells..he did a lot attempts of backstabs but missed a ton, and failed to hide a few times. I was pretty sure Neira was the much better melee person, so he fled. She chased him, so Huron ran all the way to the barracks, go for a backstab, then run away to store, hide once more, and repeat. Took forever, and as it turned out the Nashkel Guards got credit for the kill.

After some action in the southern areas, Huron finally had enough cash to get his necklace of missiles. Time to deal with Mulahey. He stealthed almost the entire mine, except he did fireball the kobold commandos in his way. Time for Mulahey himself! Huron of course did greenstone amulet, shield amulet, donned his necklace of missiles and went for a backstab. Well it wasn't a backstab but it did hurt Mulahey. Huron then tried a blindness (saved) and necklace of missiles, then magic missiles (only 2 orbs at this point). All right time for some bow action...Mulahey runs in fear and runs outside the cave. Huron has to fireball some skeletons and then backstabs Mulahey to oblivion.
Posted Image
A critical spell was found in the loot, a web spell, good. Huron backstabs some nearby ochre jellies and flees. He does invisibility then heads for the carnival to sell and rest.

Once Huron got to Nashkel, he cast shield and resist fear. This nullifies most of Nimbul's threats. As it happened, it didn't matter as Nimbul failed his save vs. blindness. Nimbul's only spell he cast was mirror image. So then Huron uses his bow (took a long time) to get rid of the Nimbul images - once, gone, a well placed backstab finishes Nimbul.
Posted Image

Huron finally has enough cash to both get his shortbow+1 and also martial staff, he gets both. Even though he's getting higher level, he still runs from most ambushes, most aren't worth the resources. Nimbul got Huron an extra level 2 spell (both webs), time to deal with some issues on the east.

For the valley of the tombs, Huron used a pro-undead scroll for the tombs, and also used backstabs to try to speed up the kills. He managed to do this before his scroll wore out. This filled him up (no bag of holding), so he had to leave to sell/bank/rest and return. He intentionally avoids talking to Narcillus - Huron is sure he doesn't want to fight the jellies.

Huron returns, rests until night, then moves to the top of the area in the shadows - ah some amazon assassins! He backs up, does web x2, then fireball (necklace of missiles) and THEN immediately hide in the shadows - the enemies had no clue on his location. He repeated fireballs from the shadows once more and a cleric got within visual range - she was blinded then arrowed to death. Only one survivor - ah she's undamaged - one necklace of missiles charge (note that Huron has recharged the necklace somewhere along the way), and then a final backstab to finish her off.
Posted Image

I forgot to mention that Zal got taken out by blindness, and Vax got backstabbed (but lived), but amazingly melee finished him off. One of the last things done is Sendia and her pals were taken by web x2 and 2 fireballs from the necklace. Only Sendia lived! Excellent, ah but saves vs blindness. She can't get out of the webs though, so Huron's bow finishes her off.

Huron has used very few heal potions this run, as he avoids contact if at all possible. Sirines will likely be his next target.

Sounds like good progress Corey - keep it going.

Cusp - dwarf swashbuckler (hour 3)

Cusp is also making progress, though not so good -  I made one major mistake, which he was lucky to survive.

- reassured Ardrouine (reputation 20).
- took vengeance on behalf of Tenya.
- had just enough money for greenstone amulet / cloak of displacement / ring of invisibility.  Supplemented those by trapping Dushai for his ring.
- one use of the amulet was enough to deal with the first group of sirenes.  Sil and her friends are normally pretty simple because they don't wander around like the other group.  However, Sil didn't go hostile when I expected and walked over the traps I had set.  I was only half-awake and didn't respond to her getting a charm off (could have used a potion of clarity even after she cast it). Cusp had plenty of +1 arrows for the golems.
- went invisibly through the Nashkel mines and set snares for Mulahey.
- returned Joseph's ring, reported to the mayor and trapped Nimbul.
- just for a change used arrows of biting on Tranzig.  He saved against all the poison, but expired of the base damage.
- at the bandit camp some bandits were shot, while Taugosz walked into snares.  In the main tent Venkt proved less resistant than Tranzig to arrows of biting, while the others chased Cusp outside into more traps.

Cusp - swashbuckler L8, 45 HPs, 118 kills

Zo3 failed a backstab on a ghast just after getting the stealth boots. Leave the ghast. LEAVE the ghast. She got held and killed. Re-rolling. This is probably a good thing, as serious Firefly fans might take offence at the low wisdom & charisma. Gonna shadowkeep her to 16 17 15 15 12 12, a fair roll of 87, one more point than I rolled naturally, but not shamelessly maxed out.

Sorry to hear that Potty. But you don't have to leave the ghast - shoot him or scorch him if you are an arcane user. But agreed, backstabbing one without hold immunity is super risky...

@Potty. Condolences. It is possible to safely backstab ghasts by using range 2 weapons, but I typically take them down with missle weapons. Sometimes I just slip by.

4oe caught up to where Zo3 had been, then made the dangerous trip North to learn the secrets of the Free Action. On the way she sneaked down a hole and retrieved a farmer's son, this very nearly went bad as an ankheg spotted her as she entered the cave. She broke left and stealthed, but became boxed in by the underground ankheg. She had no option but to unstealth, but for some reason took no damage from the ankheg, and was able to kill it easily.

Sporting her new ring, 4oe headed south, saved Prism from a thug, returned Samuel to the FAI, picked up a chicken, and killed several ghasts. Time to enter the XP train.

She backstabbed Shoal the Nereid while neutral (I wasn't doing that anymore), but didn't one-shot her. She attempted to hide & repeat, but failed to stealth. Shoal initiated conversation, which ended badly for 4oe. Suppose there's gotta be a reason why she's worth 5000XP :P

Huron the solo level 6 mage/level 7 thief Update
Huron, Half-Elf, 40 HP

@Potty - sorry to hear of your latest demise. I have died to Shoal before as well...
@Alesia_BH: Grats on another BG 1 success! That sure was quick...

Huron continues to make progress. His first target were the sirines on the Shoal map. On the way he was ambushed by 3 ghasts. Remembering the lesson from Potty, he ranged attacked, running all around the map until they were all dead. Worth it for 1950 experience.

Once here, he stealthed to the Surgeon. Some ogres were in visual range, so Huron used necklace of missies and arrows to defeat the nearby ogres then finally talked to surgeon...Huron really wanted the Sirines' biting arrows but wasn't sure he would do well in melee, so he used web, and protected by greenstone amulet he attacked. Well, it took quite a while to kill one of them, but one fell, for the other, he thought hmm, maybe he should backstab...so Huron retreats a short distance, hides and yes backstabs the 2nd sirine dead. However, he didn't notice that his charm protection wore off and here comes a dire charm! Amazingly, Huron saved (his save vs. spells is only 9). He quickly got his charm protection back up and backstabbed the last sirine dead as well.

Huron sold his junk at High Hedge, and made a quick stop by thye Bassilus area to see if Thalantyr could save Melicamp. Sadly, Melicamp did not survive...so Huron goes to the Sword Coast with the pirate cave. Huron's necklace of missiles only has 1 charge on it, and Huron doesn't quite have enough to recharge it, so he will have to do without this area. Thus, he has to trade arrows with some hobgoblines - a single enemy critical drops Huron from full health to 1/2 health - ouch critical sure hurt...but nevertheless the hoggoblins are defeated.

Huron tried web against the Sirines, but he didn't get many arrows in the loot, so he will just melee the last group, opening with a backstab of course. But first, Huron had to deal with 3 carrior crawlers - their hold effect can be real dangerous, so Huron just shot them up with his short bow +1, there's a part of the path the carrion crawlers can't fit through so that makes it pretty safe to do so. The last group of sirines are finally defeated and yes more arrows of biting, good, need this for the 3 flesh golems in the cave. Huron uses his arrows of biting mostly here, although he did backstab if a single one was enough to finish the golems off. Huron filled up on loot and left the area.

Huron was finally able to recharge his necklace of missiles. Now that's recharged, time to hit the basilisks area. However for his first visit here, Huron wasn't planning on fighting any baslisks - instead, he cleared a group of Taslois with a skull trap, took out some gnolls and flinds from range, then prepared for the main event, Kirian's party. Huron spotted them in the shadows - he backed off about 10 feet and did web x2 and necklace of missiles 3 x. As usual, Huron would hide immediately after firing off the fireball, so the enemies never knew where he was. There was a sole survivor, so Huron blinded them and took them out with his bow. Success and quite full have to sell and return

For the 2nd visit, Huron was protected by the spell, protection from petrification. He then recruited Korax the Ghoul and while in the shadows, directed Korax to attack Mutamutin - yes, the evil wizard is held. Huron fires arrows of biting for good measure and Mutamutin and his pet baslisks are slain. Korax then helped with two nearby lesser basilisks, then Huron sent Korax to attack some gnolls to his death - this way Huron didn't need to worry about Korax turning on Huron. Huron had to refresh his protection and then battled the baslisks on the southern part of the map. Web was used to try to keep the baslisks out of melee range and if they did come in melee range, Huron would hide and backstab them dead. Huron then went up north for his last baslisk kill. The lesser baslisk survived the first backstab, so Huron runs and hides..and his PfP wears off! Hmm...well he does of mirror eyes if needed, but it didn't matter as his next backtab finished the beast.

So Huron left and sold the gems he collected and of course got more arrows, and will consider his next move.

Huron the solo level 7 mage/level 8 thief
Huron, half-elf, 47 hp

Huron did a brief stop by Durlag's Tower, primarily to top off experience wise. He used the dopplegangers, ghasts, 2 battle horrors, and some baslisks to do that. He also got 3 spells he was missing from random loot drops - flame arrow, horror and the all important haste.

He then joined the bandit camp. For Tazok some summons distracted him, while acid arrows convinced him to let Huron join the camp.Huron buffed with resist fear, Ghost Armor, haste and improved invisibility. He opened with a backstab on Brikt, another hit finished him. He then did a scorcher from wand aimed at Venkt. This also caught the two melees, and when it was all over, an arrow finished the melee. Huron then did magic missiles to burn the mirror images of Venkt, then a backstab finished him off.
Posted Image

Huron looted what he could, detrapped the chest and left.

Next conflict of interest was Drassus. Drassus and friends never even got a single attack off. Huron did web, stinking cloud, some necklace of missile fireballs, and his bow - the enemies were cleanly defeated.

Almost the entire Cloakwood mines were skipped. With the help of a potion of perception, Huron didn't have to fight the battle horrors as he de-trapped them. Davaeorn was beat pretty much by haste and improved invisibility. Huron then flooded the mine.

Now that Huron finally has some cash, he did some reputation quests which got him to 20 rep, then purchased the robe of the arch magi for 13500. He is at Wyrm's Crossing, ready to venture intothe City of Baldur's Gate. There's very little for him to do here.

 Huron the solo level 7 mage/level 8 thief - Chapter 5, 6, 7

Well, in the city of Baldur's Gate Huron did very little - almost nothing in fact. He got his DEX, WIS and INT tome, he got his +2 ring from Razamith by backstabbing him, and that was about it!

Time for the Iron Throne...for the first time ever, I passed on fighting the Iron Throne 5th floor and just went invisible to Thaldorn and left...that almost bit me later....

Candlekeep was zero problem, mainly because with a thieving potion, potion of perception and potion of genius, that got Huron's skills all to 100 plus for traps/locks. Spiders were scary, but magic missiles and fireballs from the shadows saved him once more. He went invisible out of the crypts, passing "Elminister" and Prat and the baslisks,, after looting the crypts with the tomes.

Huron stealthed to Cythandria. Huron went past Naaman and those guys into the back room and buffed with haste and potion of magic shielding then used monster summoning wand near Cythandria...Yikes, Naaman and his buddies starting helping Cythandria!

Huron then proceeded to spam his monster wand until he got a cushion, then his powerful arrows and bow, which in fact hit all the enemies quite hard (yep, acid arrows and Eagle bow and a character with 19 DEX will do that...). He got hit once (with an arrow I think), dropping him to 1/2 life, but he pulled through and defeated them all. He would have been toast if the enemies were able to get through the doorway, but it was constantly blocked. I had to leave a ton of loot behind, but I got the main quest items and left here.

For Slythe I took no chances - massive buffs, but it was unnecessary as my army proceeds to both defeat Slythe and Krystin.
Posted Image
I do a final rest and proceed to the the Duchal Palace.

Almost same strategy as the other two fights, except this time Huron attempted to slow the dopplegangers and haste his own massive # of summons then tried horror and emotion. Lia died, but Belt managed to survive. The summons forced Sarevok to flee.
Posted Image

Tomorrow, Huron will sneak past his enemies and have a final show down with his brother in the Temple of Throne of Bhaal, wish me luck!

EDIT: Huron has 388 kills, but at least 100 of these has to be the re-spawning skeletons in High Hedge (really!)...thrown so many fireballs on those things....

Good luck Corey, though it doesn't look like you'll need it!

Cusp - dwarf swashbuckler (hour 4)

Cusp is also likely to finish his adventures in the Sword Coast in his next session.  This time he:
- sold surplus loot from the Bandit Camp and bought the Claw of Kazgoroth.
- fireballed a couple of battle horrors and a greater doppleganger on the way to get the tome from Durlag's Tower.
- went invisibly through the Cloakwood to the mine.  There, Drasus died in traps.  I would have left the others, but Kysus stood on his body so used a couple of fireballs to persuade him to move (well, die actually).
- went down invisibly to Daveorn.  Some poor pathfinding let the guard there get a hit on him to keep up Cusp's record of getting hit once in each session.  Invisible rests then allowed him to set six traps.  3 fireballs were used to reduce Daveorn's mirrors, before Cusp showed himself and Daveorn teleported to his doom.
- flooded the mine before travelling to Baldur's Gate.  Quickly picked up the tomes there, trapping Jalantha, Marek and Ramazith in the process.
- Cusp has reconnoitred the Iron Throne and is ready for a trip to Candlekeep next time.

Cusp - swashbuckler L9, 52 HPs, 135 kills

 Huron the solo half-elf level 7 mage/level 8 thief - FINAL BG 1 Update

So Huron uses a pro magic scroll, invis potion and gets to Temple of Bhaal. With it still running he does a potion of haste and perception and moves up...forgetting to summon his army - oops! So he tries to dispel Sarevok's haste, which fails and the whole crew comes. Huron runs to the entrance, puts up a singe group of summons and goes invisible - yes Angelo uses his fire arrows then Sarevok killed Angelo, one down.
Posted Image

Oh yes, here is my resources and equipment for Sarevok.

Thanks to Semaj planting himself in the center and Sarevok's haste, Huron had a hard time to get separation, in fact at one point Huron got hit to 20% life so used another invis potion to heal and re-buff. Finally back at the dais, he was able to build up an army - which in turn worked with Huron's bow to defeat Tazok and Semaj.

Finally, time to deal with my "brother". The survivors in my army charge Sarevok and Huron uses DUHM and finally dispels Sarevok's haste. Huron then uses +2 arrows, but it was a dire wolf that got the kill shot.
Posted Image

Huron is moving onto BG 2. He will try to solo BG 2 there too, though I expect a grisly death. His final stats:

Russell IV the Inquisitor entering Trilogy No-Reload Challenge...

Yep, I got a group of paladins again. The group is exactly same as Russell II and Russell III except Russell IV has been re-rolled. Specifically, his INT is much higher than before (16 vs. 4) so that in BG 2 he can role-play that's he smart and discrete enough to avoid encounters he is likely to lose, no matter how badly he wants to engage or how bad the evil is - this way he may actually survive much later. Russell II and Russell III died to the shadow dragon by taking it on too early - Russell IV will be smart enough not to fall for the same problem.

The team has cleared much of the way from Candlekeep to Nashkel, but there's still much to do. Team is level 4. Onto the introductions:

Russell IV (protagonist)
Posted Image
Main weapon: sling +1

Misty
Posted Image
Main weapon: Greywolf's Long Sword (+2)

Hanna
Posted Image
Main weapon: Bastard Sword +1

Forrest
Posted Image
Main weapon: Composite Bow

Joshua
Posted Image
Main weapon: Composite Bow +1

Paja:
Posted Image
Main weapon: sling

The plan is to use paladins for the entire run. The only exception to this is the paladins need help for something, such as for Imoen to cast freedom and free an imprisoned paladin. No deaths yet.

Party Status:
Misty: 52 kills, Greywolf
Hanna: 46 kills, Winter Wolf
Forrest: 102 kills, Vampiric Wolf
Joshua: 82 kills, Ghast
Russell IV: 37 kills, Dread Wolf
Paja: 23 kills, Vampiric Wolf

Thanks Serg!

FYI: In terms of gameplay hours, it wasn't a particularly quick run. Abbie's base movement rate and emphasis on buffed melee sped things up, minimization of metagaming slowed things down. All told, the pace was about average for my characters. By speed run standards it was sluggish.

Just a quick note - Russell IV and his band of paladins are level 5 and have sacked the bandit camp. The bandits couldn't even come close to opposing the paladins' righteous wrath. Khosann gave a good fight, but was slain by a well-aimed bullet by Russell IV. Gold is fantastic, more than 20,000, with nothing to really spend it on at the moment...still no deaths.

Russell IV and his band of paladins update:

Much of the Sword Coast explored. About 5 more areas left and the Paladins will have to push into the Cloakwood to make progress. The party is level 6. When the paladins reach level 7, they will do main story line/upgrade only from that point. we need 600,000 experience to get level 8, no way without doing much of TotSC. We only need level 7 for Sarevok in any case.

Unsurprisingly, the bowmen are leading kills by a big margin.

Hanna: 69 HP, 187 kills, Greater Basilisk
Misty: 56 HP, 181 kills, Kahrk
Joshua: 62 HP, 249 kills, Revenant
Forrest: 58 HP, 256 kills, Battle Horror
Russell IV, 68 HP, 110 kills, Battle Horror
Paja, 42 HP, 75 kills, Vampiric Wolf
