Good luck Aasim, Grond0.

Boots of stealth are nice to haves Corey. Arbane is handy for Amnish monks in a fix.

I wasn't in front of the computer - yes he is in fact using boots of stealth, but I forogt. I know about Arbane, but for a monk that's 1 APR and if he's outnumbered (like Suna Sune ambush) then it's not much help.

Agreed - but if you are mainly ranged you can switch as a spell arrives and back again as it dissipates.

Aldeth is still pretending there are doppelgangers around so Roliahv reports in to Scar.
(telling him how the updated beta has improved several items).

With a reputation of 18 and charisma of 22 some shopping (Dagger of Venom for Rasaad, Shadow Thief armour for Imoen) is done before some villainous deed can be found (collect some blackmail maybe).

Rasaad has picked up another level but whatever HP he picked up was not observed. Hopefully enough to allow him to scamper away from the remaining mischief.

Dorn has completed the tale of his fall into Blackguardishness. Areana has paid two ransoms, raising 1000gp but more importantly lowering our reputation by 1 each time. Nice (& something to remember).

Rasaad had picked up 2hp last time round.

Narlen Darkwalk is up for a bit of larceny. Imoen asks what he means when he says "Swiped a duchess' knickers once, if you know what I mean". After doing his two jobs Imoen accepts another challenge from Brevlik and tells Alora to clear off before looting the Hall of Wonders.

Sanadal Gwist is lamenting Carbos & Shank (the chunkle brothers) so Roliahv spins some tale about them emigrating to Amn. Nadine is relieved to hear Euric is safe and another 50hgp sees the Diviner reveal Rieltar Anchev as leader of the Iron Throne.

Alatos wants the Oberan estate rifled through, a task so tricky we stand outside considering how to do it. Eventually Dorn and Roliahv poison their blades and step forward, only for Imoen to appear in front of them waving the required items. Sneaky lass.

Edit, thanks Corey. 50hp would be a bit excessive.

Wow, in BG:EE the diviner requires your HP? Is it permanent? Is he some kind of vampire? In vanilla, of course, the Diviner wants the much less gruesome 50 gold.

Ish'kafel and Qwerzy:
After a bit of powergaming quest for Oils of speed, and a hidden ring, I decided it's time to test their mettle against Tarnesh. Ish'kafel cast Command, backstab followed and Tarnesh died.
Posted Image

Did some small quests in Beregost, restored the chicken (yey!) , returned the Girdle of Piercing to it's owner and did the Ankheg farm after buying a full plate - ankhegs can then hit only on criticals.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Next in line war the evil cleric with a magical hammer - Ish'kafel's weapon of choice (Qwertzy uses short bows and quarterstaves). His first casting attempt was disrupted via Command, and then he failed to save vs hold. Did Greywolf as well, with little trouble after backtab/poison.
Posted Image
Posted Image

After clearing areas around Nashkel, and visiting Ulgoth's Beard for some equipment, it was time to enter the mines and face Mulahey. Qwertzy couldn't get in a position to backstab, but he succesfully posioned him. A Command casting set Mulahey up for a safe backstab, which killed him. Kobold spawing there were killed with burning oil.
Posted Image

Amazons - fire potion, backstab, Command + Greenston amulet charge.
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

After counting the bodies, I noticed one was missing (SCS thieves start invisible, but she should have joined the fight.) Anyhow, while wondering this area, suddenly Ish'kafel gets backstabbed for 12 damage. It was her last backstab, she succumbed to Command shortly after.
Posted Image

Met a mage who started yapping about jellies. Said I wanted one as well, he got mad an went hostile. Qwertzy's backstab failed and he went improved invisible, and casted a Lightning bolt. It bounced of a rock at the worst possible angle and killed Qwertzy. Ish'kafel managed to clear both him and jellies, however I was worried if Qwertzy's equipment would stay after I revive him at Nashkel - luckily, it did (I had a complete inventory overload at this point).
Posted Image
Posted Image

One-shoted Nimbul via backstab for 50 damage. Did Droth as well - used Qwertzy to trigger the encounter. Afterwards, killed Nereid as well - 5K exp is too much to pass out on.
Posted Image

Cleared out the whole Sword Coast of Sirens with Greenstone Amulet charges. Got a decent number of poison arrows, raised Ish'kafel's constitution to 20 so now he regenerates while traveling.
Posted Image

Firewine ruins were visited, bit only for gauntlets of weapon expertise. Did some small quests - archeological dig, Bragge was returned to the temple. I couldn't find Oils of Speed in shops, so payed a rather short visit to Durlag's Tower. Did the outside Horrors
Posted Image

and Basilisks,Ghasts inside buffed with potion of free action. Decent loot was found, several potions as well. Did one mistake here, and it could had been fatal - I used Potion of Invulnerability to handle Basilisk gaze. All of a sudded, I noticed Ish'kafel is making saves at -4! I drank Mirrored eyes potion asap, seems like greater basilisk have some penalty involved. Lesson learned.
Posted Image

Sold a lot of stuff, backstabed Tranzig and went to bandit camp. I definitely underestimated them, and Ish'kafel was very close to dying here. He had several big healing potions (SCS fighters sometimes drop those if they are high enough level, I can't buy those - so are rather limited) and used them up just to stay alive. Lack of AoE damage, apart one single flame jar almost proved fatal
Posted Image

Duo was forced to retreat several times, before finally managing to kill Taugosz Khossan who saved twice vs Hold after getting doomed - Ish'kafel also used a scroll of Flamestrike on him. Still, we were both alive and he was not.
Posted Image

Rest of the troops inside the tent were easy - Qwertzy killed the mage instantly, and went invisible with ring. Ish'kafel killed the others without interferance. Off to Cloakwood.
Posted Image

Helped that hunter vs druids - Call Lighting could not be interrupted, but Ish'kafel used Boots of Grounding to reduce the damage. Had a near-death experience with spiders, however. Ish'kafel got webbed, with 2 spiders on him. His exellent saves kept him alive for 2 rounds, after that he saved vs web, drank Free Action potion and the rest of the map was cleared safely.
Posted Image
Posted Image

After slaying some wyverns/ettercaps (I no longer try to escape that 4x ettercap ambush, I just fight them) we were in front of the mine. An assassin changed by Rogue Rebalancing looses on poison damage, it's reduced - he does start with a 3x backstab instead (like in EE). Now hittig level 9, he had x5. The party in front was handled in

3 backstabs total

Davaeorn shared the same fate:

Flooded the mine and marched to Baldur's Gate.

Narlen Darkwalk elects to help us rather than observe an assassination attempt, then we collect a bit more gold from our blackmailing activities. Eventually we turn up to find Tor Lobo threatening us instead, at least his armour will sell for something. Our reputation is vaguely acceptable (16) too.

Xochi{4} - wild mage (update 2)

Xochi cruised through the Cloudpeaks doing all the profitable encounters, then up to the Lake area - just took this screenshot because I was surprised that a single skull trap killed all 3 of the party there

On to the archaeological site where Xochi took revenge on the diggers for her last incarnation.  There was quite a neat manoeuvre there trapping the doomsayer in the doorway allowing Xochi to use her wand of frost on him (magic missiles would normally have been used, but taking advantage of the quasit's immunity to cold seemed more stylish).  I also found it amusing that Brage carried an entangled Xochi back to Nashkel temple.

Depopulated the valley of the tombs and moved on to Durlag's Tower - frosting a pair of battle horrors there got Xochi to level 8.  She used a scroll of magic protection to pick up the tome - a bit wasteful maybe, but the only protection she had available at the time.

Carelessly arrived at Bassilus' area just as invisibility ran out and was shot at by a hobgoblin - but he missed.  There was also a potentially nasty moment when Bassilus was attacking a confused quasit - but he was already blinded and failed to hit before being taken down.

A brief visit to the lighthouse area put Ardrouine's mind at rest before Xochi moved on to the Nashkel mine.  Went through that invisible (the quasit in the lead to trigger the traps) and skull-trapped Mulahey from out of sight.  Outside, Xochi rested and then blinded 3 of the amazons before finishing them off with 3 skull traps.

Back in Nashkel Xochi was annoyed to realise she hadn't picked up Joseph's ring, but was cheered up by the sight of the quasit eating Nimbul alive.  With reputation at 19 Xochi tried to maximise it via Melicamp, but had to settle for a chicken dinner.  I think she's done all the reputation quests prior to the bandit camp now, so will probably go shopping next before continuing with the main questline.

Coremonk II is still at it. A monk is surprisingly good solo class, Coremonk II is proving quite capable. However, the constant running around is not my style at all. Would much rather slug it out as a fighter or paladin.

Interesting battle: Coremonk II vs. Nimbul

Coremonk II really didn't want to soak up all Nimbul's magic missiles himself. Therefore, he charmed Minsc with Algernon's Cloak and had Minsc attack Nimbul. Nimbul of course talked and attacked Coremonk II. Coremonk II went inside the store, but Nimbul followed - Coremonk II left the store immediately and Nimbul follows again. This time Coremonk II runs far away with Minsc hacking at Nimbul. Nimbul finally realizes this crazy large man is swinging at him and starts to throw some magic missiles at Minsc. Some guards assist Minsc - Minsc in fact does get the kill shot, and Nimbul dies.

BUT, because Minsc is charmed and not part of the party, Coremonk II gets the full 650 experience. Minsc will go hostile once the charm wears off, so Coremonk cloaks and smacks Minsc with his fist - then Coremonk II runs for his life. A Nashkel Guard sees the scuffle and attacks Minsc. Minsc was having none of it and slashes the guard dead. Once more, Coremonk II cloaks and finishes off Minsc.

Coremonk II finally does Karlat and the spiders in Beregost, mostly by running around throwing his darts everywhere. Corey_Russell is noticing the Melium's bracers make a big difference in Coremonok II's dart damage.

Xochi{4} - wild mage (update 3)

Xochi cashed in her treasure trove in order to buy the Claw and Horn of Kazgoroth from High Hedge and the Cloak of Displacement, Ring of Invisibility and Greenstone Amulet.  Also bought up all the scrolls not yet learned (and potions of genius to ensure they weren't wasted) along with some darts of stunning.  Before leaving Ulgoth's Beard also blinded and killed Dushai for his ring.

Used her new greater malison spell, in conjunction with 2 webs and 3 skull traps to see the back of the first group of sirenes.  That combination was less effective on Sil and Xochi made a first use of the wand of monster summoning to provide a distraction while finishing them off.  Exactly half of the 44 +1 bullets she was carrying around were used on the flesh golems.

Now on the main quest I made an error with Tranzig in thinking he would die quicker than he did.  I had allowed for him casting an acid arrow on the familiar, but he got off a magic missile as well - Bhaal healing on the quasit could well have saved it from death there.

At the bandit camp Xochi went in invisible and quickly blinded Venkt and Hakt.  Britik saved against 7 attempts - though that didn't save him from web x2, skull trap, malison, skull trap!  One more skull trap finished the enemies off, allowing Xochi to open the chest (after using a potion of magic blocking).

Travelled invisibly through the Cloakwood to the mine.  This time Kysus was the problem - he survived 8 blind attempts while Rezdan and Genthore were both caught first time.  However, I continued anyway and a couple of skull traps from out of sight finished off the mages.  A few fireballs then killed Genthore and had Drasus at near death, before I made a silly mistake - first I must have shifted my targeting point minutely to out of line of sight round the edge of the building as Xochi moved forward into visual range of Drasus.  He chose that moment to escape from the web and moved to attack and, rather than go invisible immediately, I tried to fit in a flame arrow - only to abandon it as taking too long as Drasus charged forward.  I then tried to get the invisible familiar to get between Drasus and Xochi, but his mace proved too quick and Xochi took her first damage.  She belatedly took a potion of invisibility and finished Drasus off with a wand scorcher. {Edit: also got to level 9 in that encounter - still sensational HPs at 46 (just 2 below her maximum).}

That was a shame, but I'll continue this version of Xochi anyway to see if I can make some decent progress in BG2 with her.

I noticed that too. Monks have a reputation for being atrocious in early BG1, however, if you are willing to leverage the movement rate advatange by relying heavily on darts they are pretty effective.

In my install the endgame would be challenging for a monk, but they can get the job done in the early game.

However, the constant running around is not my style at all.

Therein lies the rub: running around and chucking darts can get old. (That's why Ashra is on hold, incidentally.)

Corey_Russell is noticing the Melium's bracers make a big difference in Coremonok II's dart damage.

Yuppers. The +2 basically doubles your damage (which is kind of depressing if you think about it....)

Life should get easier once you can work darts of stunning, darts of wounding and perhaps the Dagger of Venom into the mix.

Anyhoo. Good luck with Coremonk!

Best,

A.

Xochi{4} - wild mage (update 4)

A cloudkill spell severely wounded Daveorn and a follow-up killed him before he could teleport away.

Usual routine in the city as Xochi collected the tomes and investigated the Iron Throne invisibly.

Back at Candlekeep she used MGoI and polymorph self to loot the tombs.

Slythe was mainly beaten up by the quasit though some magic missiles helped him on his way.

At the palace Xochi tried opening the combat by putting Belt into an Otiluke's sphere.  Slightly to my surprise that worked, but all her darts of stunning only managed to stun a single doppleganger in that opening period, so there were still 5 chasing when Belt reactivated.  She had better luck thereafter though and eventually stunned 4 more of them to prevent Belt from taking much damage.  This time the quasit stayed invisible to avoid any accidents when Sarevok went hostile!

Used invisibility + MGoI to go through the maze to find Sarevok.  Started with the same tactics there of monsters + magic missiles (also tried darts of stunning + malison, but he's immune to that).  Xochi had fewer damaging spells learned this time though and had to finish Sarevok off with a few magic missiles from a wand and a bit of run and shoot.

Xochi has now arrived back in Irenicus' dungeon.  Lets hope that this time she can walk out rather than leaving in a boxPosted Image.

@Grond0: Congrats on taking down Sarevok! Wish Xochi the best in Amn...

Coremonk the level 6 solo Monk continues to adventure...

Coremonk is still making progress. At 49 HP I think he's got decent rolls, for a monk. Melicamp was not saved by Thalantyr this go around. He finally gets two attacks a round with his fist and has 1 AC, so he finally is able to get into melee a lot more often. He still has to use his darts on strong enemies like ghasts and bears.

Coremonk also just took down Basiluss. He charmed two wolves with his cloak of Algernon's, then stealthed his way with wolves following to Bassilus side. Coremonk then gulped a magic blocking potion and laid into Bassilus. After about 3 rounds or so, Bassilus was slain. Bassilus was able to get an entangle off, which worked great - for Coremonk. Once this evil cleric was dead, Coremonk got some distance and used his darts to kill his two wolf friends, who couldn't respond being trapped in the entangle...

Coremonk is trying to raise the 22,000 gold needed to buy back the greenstone amulet, so then he can deal with the Sirines on the coast.

Coremonk II has made continued progress - he is now level 7, only one more level until the level cap.

Nothing particularly exciting happened this go around, just the beating up of a lot of lesser enemies. He finally obtained the 22,500 gold he needed to buy back the important greenstone amulet. He got some antidotes and heal potions and will brave the Coast (Sirines) next session.

Ish'kafel & Qwertzy duo, upon entering BG:
First things first - my assassin needs some headgear. Bought this - it's a RR item. Not really worth the price (7k or so) but critical hit aversion can be priceless. Find traps bonus is always nice, but hardly needed (Qwertzy has points in Lockipick, Trap spotting and Pickpockets).
Posted Image

Visited that Lantern boat bar, and met 2 girls (very convinient) who wanted to introduce us to some pain pleasures. Opened the battle with backstab + silence 15' radius, which silenced everybody apart the mage - lol.
It was a wise decision to buy headgear for Qwertzy - otherwise, this backstab would have chunked him. 2 HP were left on him.
Posted Image

Qwertzy drank an invisibility potion immediately, and decided to show Desreta true pain:
Posted Image

Killed Yago and cleared the basilisk in the werehouse. Finished doppelgangers and ogre mage in the sewers - had no trouble whatsoever.
Posted Image

It was then time to finally visit the Iron Throne. We went in buffed with invisibility potions, I wanted no interferance. For prebuff, potions : speed, Invulnerability, Giant strenght, Greenstone charge.
Open via backstab, killing Alai instantly:
Posted Image

Did a few more backstabs, but since Qwertzy doesn't specialize in stealth that much - I decided to save those invisibility potions and fight in open combat. Enemies buffed with Giant strenght potions as well, delivering hefty damage, in addition, Gardush is a berserker, so he could kill Ish'kafel in 3 or 4 hits:
Posted Image

Gardush died the following round due to a 2nd backstab on him. Qwertzy used dispelling arrow on Cloudwulfe to remove his 23 strenght, making him an easy preay, and finally backstabed the last remaining enemy (doppleganger). Lots of big healing potions both spent and found. Ish'kafel was never reduced to such low HP before - oil of speed saved his life.

Ish'kafel & Qwertzy
After finishing Iron Throne, dou decided to pickpocket for Ring of Free Action - now they both had one.
Posted Image

Did some minor battles in the city - Larze, Ramazith (seems backstab-immune for some reason, but died in 2 hits), Jardak, Gorpel Hind battle - this one was poorly executed and the duo took big damage again from backstabs. One point of note - Qwertzy delivered 164 on a critical hit, which is the current record.
Posted Image

Marek's poisoing quest was done by killing the High Priestess as well as all temple dwellers, and prompt disposal of the thief/mage in a single hit - no trouble here.

Thank you, Alesia - I'm feeling very confident about them for some reason.
Back to my run:

Finished Candlekeep Tombs with no trouble - there was 1 lighting bolt which severely wounded Ish'kafel but Prat's party was slain very quickly. Was sure to drink Mirrored Eyes potion before meeting the basilisk there.
Posted Image

Before ging back to Baldur's Gate, duo cleared some outdoor areas - 4 mages group (used Prot Magic scroll, it's not like I'll be needing them anymore), Basilisk garden, Kirian's group - I did not bother to enter dungeons like Firewine or Ulcaster.
Posted Image
Posted Image

After obtaining the Girdle of slashing, it was time for endgame. We entered Flaming Fist headquarters invisible, Ish'kafel buffed with Absorbance potion and killed the clerics inside.
Wounded body was delivered to the docks, Cythandria was quickly slain - backstab didn't kill her, but a critical from Ish'kafel did. Two Ogres posed little trouble afterwards.
Posted Image

Undercellars it is - Invisibility, Detect invisibile, Oil of speed were only prebuff. I started getting a feeling that Ish'kafel and Qwertzy are invulnerable - I had great confidence. Krystin's first spell was disrupted, which was hilarious - straight trough mirror images. A promising start.
Posted Image

next spell- disrupted as well. Slythe got backstabbed as well, but it didn't kill him.
Posted Image

With RR, Slythe wields revised Short Sword of Backstabbing - his multiplier is x6. Not enough to actually kill Ish'kafel, however enough to get him into danger zone.
Posted Image

He drank a healing potion and removed Krystin from existance - Undercellar customers who witnessed the blow still have nightmares.
Posted Image

As for Slythe, what goes around comes around...
Posted Image

We rushed to the Palace. We still had haste, so Ish'kafel used his Divine Might power as a sole buff. I have to thank Alesia's reports on this battle - Arrows of Dispelling/Darts of stunning proved very effective (dispel removes saves bonus from blur, making doppelgangers more vulnerable to stunning attacks)
Posted Image

We got teleported to thieves place, bought some potions (still had over 10K left), and entered the maze. I decided that I won't bother with traps there - instead, buffed with Apsorption, Fire resistance, and 1 Regeneration potion + Oil of speed + Giant strenght. Proved more than enough to finish the maze with little trouble.
Qwertzy had some fun with arrows of Detonation/backstabs with the Iron Throne leftovers in front of the Temple - they barely knew what hit them. Hide, arrow, run, stab, rinse, repeat.
Posted Image

Entering Sarevok lair at levels 8/8, Qwertzy 11- rest, heavy potion buff for Ish'kafel, Boots of Speed for Qwertzy who is to trigger the fight.
Semaj opens up with Malison/Flesh to Stone - cheap, cheap wizard. Qwertzy quickly responds with Magic Shielding potion. Following that, Semaj tries for a Remove magic, but it did not dispel Qwertzy's potion buff - irrelevant, we had 6 or so such potions - no saving throws will be failed.
Posted Image

Qwertzy drinks invisibility potion, and Ish'kafel is safe within his Sanctaury. Let's go to work. First, an arrow attack against Semaj to open him up for backstabs.
Posted Image

He responed with another casting of mirror images, prolonging the inevitable. That's fine, we are patient.
Angelo was not mirrored, however. Qwertzy starts drooling at this sight.
Backstabbed, poisoned, died without doing anything.
Posted Image

Again, invisibility potion, dispel arrow at Semaj. He doesn't cast mirrors again. Ish'kafel waves the wizard goodbye from the comfort of his Sanctuary. Tatoo of power released, indeed.
Posted Image

Tazok finally shows up - Ish'kafel, buffed to wazoo, kills him and hides in Sanctuary again - Sarevok's blows are both accurate and too damaging to handle. Qwertzy hit both Tazok and Sarevok with dispeling arrow, altough it did not seem to do anything to Sarevok - he was still very fast. Battle Horror joined the fight as well, but was completely ignored - Ish'kafel slashing AC is far to good for such creatures.
Posted Image
Posted Image

It was now a simple task for Qwertzy:

1....
Posted Image

and 2...
Posted Image

He finally gives up...
Posted Image

Reported back to the palace, and went to Amn.
