@Serg
I confirmed your request. For your question, yes, that option of ToBEx works (I guess you're asking because of IAnimations - it works regardless).

Thanks for reply! (And congratulations on finishing Sarevok!)

Yes, I have IA restored BG1 animations as you are but I had ToBEx v23 shipped with SCS v21 (which has not that tweak) so I downloaded the latest v26, *incorporated* it in my SCS and reinstalled SCS from the scratch (as it is the last mod in my list). Then I just fiddled with TobExTweak.ini enabling that tweak and some others. I got *UI:Universal Four Inventory Weapon Slots* working like a charm that way but not *Make All Attack Animations Genuine Attacks* so, for example, my *test* mage now has 4 inventory weapon slots but swing 4 times in a round with his staff as usual.

As you say that works for you I think I'll have to find another way to make it work...
Thanks again (and sorry for offtop everyone).

Coremonk II Update

Coremonk II has made it to level 8, mainly due to Sirines and Basilisks. Surprisingly he even took out Kirian's group. He used Algernon's Cloak to charm the archer, who his friends duly slain. Then Coremonk returned, protected by greenstone amulet and used stunning blows to take out Kirian - then he ran for his life! His protection wore off and a spell coming his way...hold person! And yes he is held! But he is so far away, the enemies don't know where he is so he manages to wait it out and take them out.

Corey_Russell thought and thought, but he just couldn't figure out a good way to clear Tazok's Tent - so he didn't! He dueled Tazok initially with lots of darts. Then Coremonk II stealthed into the tent, opened the chest (protected by boots of grounding) then used an invis potion to run out before anyone aggroed.

Cloakwood next target, but since he's at the level cap, Coremonk II will try to avoid whatever he can and get the main story going.

Tlaloc - wild mage (update 1)

I was a bit annoyed that Xochi failed to find her way out of a maze and decided to have another go with a wild mage.  However, I felt she had had plenty of chances already so have rolled up a new attempt.  Again this is an unadjusted die roll - the lack of Xochi's high dexterity is going to make things harder initially, but Tlaloc should be able to find a way.

I would expect tactics to be similar so won't do more than summarise progress - so far he's just killed Firebead, Xzar & Montaron.  However, I am intending to keep a record of surges encountered on his journey, which may be of interest.

Posted Image

I've also just realised that I didn't take a starting save for him, so he won't have the same luxury of second chances that Xochi enjoyed, even if I felt so inclined.

Good luck with the Wild Mage, Grond0. With those stats and being wild mage to boot, he's going to need all the luck he can get...

Incidentally, when Coremonk II falls, my next character will be wild mage as well, though with a party.

Thanks Corey.  Good luck to you to - you may find that a party doesn't provide quite as much security to Charname as usual when you're a wild mage.  Your NPCs may start cursing you when fireballs go off in their midst!

Tlaloc - wild mage (update 2)

Like the last incarnation of Xochi Tlaloc failed to learn the first 2 invisibility scrolls at High Hedge, but managed to travel to the FAI without a bandit ambush to learn the third with the help of some potions of genius.  He's now at 4th level and should have a pretty good chance of making further progress now.

Coremonk II Update - Cloakwood

Coremonk II's first major encounter in the Cloakwood was Drassus and buddies. Coremonk II tried to fire fireballs/hide and repeat but his hide failed after a few times of this. Coremonk II ran for his life and hid, but only Genthore and Drassus were left standing. So Coremonk II did another fireball, this time killing Genthore. Drassus pursued, Coremonk II hid once more, and then activated his stunning blows and took out Drassus. It was very helpful that it was nighttime...

Coremonk II tried to clear the next guard in the way, but was taking huge damage, he had to run and stealth and repeat to kill him. The next guards were a pain too, Coremonk II used lots of darts, only have 20 left after all this and only 5 heal potions...hmm Coremonk II presses on.

Since Coremonk's heal potions are so limited (he has very little money), he only killed the two ghasts and the guard guarding the potions in the vases, and skipped everthing else - oh well except for the hoggoblin elites guarding entrance to Davaeorn's level, s Coremonk II's stealth failed right about then. Coremonk had a heck of of a time with the guard at Davaeorn's level as well.

Coremonk is out of heal potions but presses on...he uses a pro magic scroll and presses forward, spawning two battle horrors. He tries to get just Davaoern but fails, so has to run a lot. Eventually Davaeorn was nice enough to dimension door away from his battle horrors and it was one-on-one! Well Davaoern summoned an Ogre Berserker! yikes! But Coremonk II still must stay away from the battle horrors and nearby jelly, so he doesn't have much room to maneuver. He tried a few fireballs but when his hiding failed, he almost died. So instead he ran and hid and stayed hidden until the Ogre Berserker unsummoned. Coremonk II did have elixars of health so used them, since his health was only a sliver, he hid then attacked Davaeorn from the Shadows - this killed him!
Posted Image

With no heals and badly wounded, messing with the loot by the jelly seems insane, so instead he stealthed his way to the slave by the plug and pulled the river plug to get more Rep. With his 3 CHA his buying prices haven't been the greatest.

After getting his heal potion stash in Beregost, Coremonk went to Wyrm's Crossing and entered the great City of Baldur's Gate.

Good work Corey.

Roliahv and co tick off a few more areas. Firewine ruins (ugh, only 2 traps due to impatience with Imoen and attacking enemies too quickly) followed by Ulcaster ruins (ugh, but cleared those traps without incident). With these narrow trapped corridors completed the party enjoyed a breath of stale air and completed the ankheg nest cull plus a few others outside. The helpful ranger counted 4 shells lugged by Dorn Ankheglugger and after she left Rasaad Ankheglugger picked up the 3 he'd momentarily put down for us to sit on.

Roliahv gets his penultimate level, a more than robust 88hp even without the helm of Balduran (which Dorn has, charisma is more important for leadership and all that).

Roliahv has struck numerous items off the to-do list, including the ice island. A job for Mendas remains open and Durlags Tower looms menacingly, the alternative being to investigate the Iron Throne HQ.

(done everything I can think of and on one guide but will double check a second to be certain)

Coremonk II - Chapters 5, 6

Coremonk II did very little in the Big City. He only engaged Razamith for his ring and looted the top of Razamith's Tower. As for the 5th floor of the Iron Throne building, though Coremonk II did massive potion buffs he was dying and in fact got pinned by the enemies - he would have died but he brought an invis potion for just such a situation and then went downstairs to heal. So instead he does the ole' fireballs from the shadows trick to wipe them out.

For Candlekeep, very little was done here, except resting to get his Bhaal powers and also of course getting the tomes - Coremonk II then used an invis potion to get out of this place.

Cythandria is Coremonk II''s next target...

Baeloth likes the Iron Throne HQ "Now this... THIS I like. Secure a room for us at once!". We do so with the aid of double Blackguard poison, stunning blows (oops, had Venom equipped after fighting Kahrk), slow, glitterdust and arrows.

We report back to Duke Eltan, although Imoen has been downstairs looting the Fist rotten. She sneaks past the observant guards and we are on our way back to Candlekeep.

Edit, & forgot to say but Sonner and his fishermen don't go hostile in BG:EE.

Tlaloc - wild mage (update 3)

Tlaloc took advantage of an early morning start to complete the majority of his required work in BG1.  He's finished all the wilderness areas and bought everything he wants and is just shy of level 9.  He's about to enter the Nashkel mine and will then hasten on through the main quests.

I think he's been hit 3 times so far.  He took his first damage from a lightning bolt surge when trying to finish off a blinded Greywolf quickly - that demonstrates that casting chaos shield is not necessarily a good idea!  The other dangerous moment was when Tlaloc was slow getting out of the tomb with ghasts in and suffered a critical hit from one of them following him.

One nice moment was that Tlaloc successfully persuaded Firebead to accept a book in Beregost.  He disappears almost instantly after his conversation if he was killed in Candlekeep, but on this occasion almost instantly wasn't fast enough!
Posted Image

I'm not sure that I've recorded all the surges - I've only listed 10 so far and suspect there have been a few more than that.  The lightning bolt was the only dangerous one (there was also a summoned demon, but that's not dangerous if you're paying attention as there's time to get out of range before the gating process is complete).

Back to Candlekeep, Winthrop asking where Imoen is (upstairs of course, helping herself to diamonds and potions and stuff). A doppelganger is dissecting cats in the flop house, something we soon put a stop to.

Imoen loots the place from top to bottom, including a "normal book". Is this what Shaella has been seeking? The Gatewarden arrests her; a relief as four watchers are attacking her by this time. As we make our escape Imoen clears every trap and Baeloth grills a few spiders before we peel back the disguises of various doppelgangers.

Prat and his gang are killed, their loot is backpacked (& then the game minimises so might need to redo this battle if it doesn't restore).

I do think the odds on a wild mage success are extremely low, but that doesn't change the fact that I'd love to see Tlaloc make it. I'm glad he's off to a good start.

Personally, I think the odds of success would increase with a party e.g., oh a surge held the mage - well party can protect/unhold him etc. Minimal buffs on self might help too, so that surges target enemies and not yourself, let the cleric buff ya and use equipment when possible. Just my 2 cents...

Time will tell.

Roliahv gives Prat a second pasting thanks to lack of savegame. We head into the city where Slythe (bashed) and Krystin (detect invisibility) are given a taste of their own medicine.

Cythandria and her two ogre berserkers are shown no mercy and then it is time for the coronation. Our buffs consist of haste and, uh that's it. Neera starts with remove magic then greater malison, as the remove fires in Baeloth follows with glitterdust then a magic missile sequencer. Neera is about to cast slow but double Blackguard poison, monk fists and acid arrows from Imoen have finished the job. Both dukes are still alive and Sarevok turns hostile when the evidence against him is shown to them.

Roliahv, Rasaad and Dorn move away but Sarevok attacks Liia then Belt. This is not good and we should have used one of the 18 wands (the monster summoning one) but instead Roliahv and Dorn both absorb health and attack, forcing Sarevok to switch back to Roliahv. Neera and Baeloth cast minor drains and Roliahv quickly catches on, doing the same.

Sarevok has taken some damage; 2 from Liia (critical), 14 absorbed by Roliahv, 14 absorbed by Dorn, the LMD's being resisted.

Belt quickly sends Roliahv and co after Sarevok but loud words are echoing around the palace "Actually we've been at this for 244 days now and it's time for a holiday. We've had the choice of a sailing trip (Mendas) or sightseeing a marvel of dwarven construction (Durlag) so decided to do both..."

Roliahv, Blackguard 7, 88hp. 546 kills, Davaeorn. Spiders Bane 2HS +2.
Rasaad, Monk 7, 32hp. 200 kills, Seniyad. Fists.
Neera, Wild Mage 8, 26hp. 52 kills, Greater Doppelganger. Neera's Staff +1.
Baeloth, Sorceror 8, 47hp. 89 kills, Greater Doppelganger. Darts.
Imoen, Thief 8, 48hp. 192 kills, Greater Doppelganger. Protector of the Dryads shortbow +2.
Dorn, Blackguard 7, 45hp (50 with helmet).  139 kills, Greater Basilisk. Rancor 2HS +1.

Imoen and Rasaad have a surprise for Rashad "the healer". Unfortunately Rashad is tearing Rasaad apart and he has to run, Imoen using her head to grab Eltan and convince the monk to use him as a human shield (too heavy for her to carry). Downstairs they go, running past the Flaming Fist guards as they go hostile and outside into the street.

Rashad has followed but switches to Neera. She runs with Rashad and Roliahv in hot pursuit while everybody else runs the other way as the Flaming Fist step outside.

Rashad is too fast for Neera but Roliahv is then able to extract revenge and head to a temple. With Neera breathing again we must now remember to drop the duke off somewhere safe.

I agree. The odds of success could definitely increase in party play- especially if you held the wild mage out of the action in most fights and limited his or her use of spells.

In vanilla party play you could probably get a PC wild mage through the adventure without ever having him or her cast a spell. Were I set on getting a wild mage through, I'd probably take an approach of that ilk. The wild mage would use wands, scrolls, items and the like on an as needed basis and perhaps cast a spell or two in situations where it would be unambiguosly safe. His or her companions would do almost all of the work.

(Of course, that wouldn't be much fun which is in part why I've never played a wild mage.)

When I said the odds seem low to me, I was refering to the prospects of a solo wild mage casting unrestrained throughout the entire adventure in a G3 install. I haven't run numbers, but I suspect that the chances of a success are far worse than some may assume.

Best,

A.

I got into SoA with a party. Lightning'd herself in the Copper Coronet if I recall. I'd say the key is to get saving throws against spell / death as low as possible, tricky though as shorties can't go wild.

I think Tiamat got into the Underdark - maybe got frozen by the dragon there?  I think the chances of finishing SoA with a wild mage are pretty high assuming perfect play (pretty low assuming my play of coursePosted Image).  I'm not really familiar enough with either ToB or the capabilities of high-level wild mages to have a feel for the chances there.

In the early stages of the game getting fried by a fireball or lightning bolt is a possibility, but a fairly low one.  It's approaching certainty that surges will interrupt your spells, so you need to make sure you're never in the position where survival depends on casting a spell.  There's also quite a high chance of being incapacitated in some way (polymorph, held, slowed, entangled etc), so you need to make sure enemies are offered an alternative focus to your wild mage.  In my current installation a familiar works well, but in some SCS encounters that could be much more problematic.

Roliahv has chartered passage on a ship, leading to an adventure on a dog-eared island. He is careful to be the cente of attention so nobody else gets bitten too badly. Dorn uses the ring of free action to deliver a double Blackguard attack on the wreckage of a ship.

Karoug forces Roliavh to glug a healing potion, first one in a long time (hardly used any).
Kaishas Gan is no match for us.
Selaad is treated to 3 pairs of magic missiles from Neera and Baeloth to complement weapon strikes.

"Finally" whispers Duke Eltan "Not that I didn't appreciate the holiday but I was dying to meet up with the Harbour master again" (oops).

(need to load up the save before Karoug as the were-baby wasn't returned, so will check if that was a bug or a mistake on my part as I rested for 2 days afterwards. Did it crawl off or get eaten...edit, baby was dropped but not in the loot from Daese or Karoug so must have been another mistake on my part to not pick it up)

Just Durlags Tower and the Thieves Maze endgame left now. Just...oh and the Black Pits to try at some point.
